Bakemonogatari Characters

    Hitagi Senjougahara

Hitagi Senjougahara

Voiced by: Chiwa Saitō

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/senjougahara_3_star_card.png

A gravitational magical girl. One of the 'if' forms... of the heroines of Monogatari series if they became magical girls. She seizes the weight of the object attacked by her hammer. The more she seizes, the more massive her hammer grows, and is strengthened. Her wish was, “Please give me memories”

  • Animal Motifs: Crabs. She has two decorations in her hair that are shaped like crab claws, the handle of her hammer has a similar claw, and her doppel heavily resembles a crab (its form even being called "weight crab").
  • Carry a Big Stick: Her weapon looks like a big squeaky mallet.
  • Gravity Master: Described as a "gravitational magical girl". Her magic allows her to absorb mass from other objects and store it in her hammer, making her weapon stronger and bigger.
  • Psychometry: Another of her hammer's powers.
  • Required Secondary Power: Since her magic hinges around stealing mass, her magic would also have to allow her to carry her hammer without getting crushed by it. This is discussed in her description, which states that she'll be crushed by her hammer if she (or the hammer) loses her magic.
  • Tsundere: It's even referenced in her Connect, which is called "Tsundere Service".

    Nadeko Sengoku

The prostrating magical girl. One of the 'if' forms... of the heroines of Monogatari series if they became magical girls. She fights with landmines while creeping because of her extremely timid personality, yet often carelessly steps on them herself. Her wish was "I don't want anyone to see me."

  • Animal Motifs: Snakes. Her doppel heavily features them and her crawling around could be a reference to how snakes slither on the ground. It's also a reference to her involvement with snakes in her home series.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: She's prone to tripping her own landmines and spends some of her animations tripping and stumbling, even though she's crawling all the time.
  • Don't Look At Me: Her wish was to not be seen by people. It's also implied this is why she crawls around, to stay out of other people's sight.
  • Meaningful Name: Her doppel is called Hebi, which uses the kanji "它", meaning "other". As her doppel, that is her other self. "Hebi" (へび) can also be read as "snake/serpent".
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: When activating her doppel, her hair turns white, which also doubles as a nod to the "Nadeko Medusa" arc in Bakemonogatari.

    Mayoi Hachikuji

Mayoi Hachikuji

A labyrinth magical girl. One of the 'if' forms... of the heroines of Monogatari series if they became magical girls. Her excellent defense will cause the enemy’s attack to avoid her, as if it had lost its way. For some reason, she can never reach her mother’s house. Her wish was “I wish to return home”.

  • Animal Motifs: Snails. Her headband resembles the curl of a snail's shell, her large backpack makes her look like she's carrying a shell, and her doppel heavily resembles a snail.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Her description states that her magic is highly defensive and causes her enemies to become disoriented and lost, so that their attacks miss. But she also can't land hits, since her drill is made to create paths rather than being used as a weapon.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Has a long, flowy pair in both forms.
  • No Sense of Direction: Much like in her home series, she seems to get easily lost and is never able to find her mother's house. Even her wish is to go home.
  • Situational Damage Attack: Both her Magia and Doppel deal higher damage if Mayoi is at low health.
  • This Is a Drill: Wields a large drill which is equipped over her hand like an arm cannon.
  • Visual Pun: Her doppel is a "lost cow" but has swirly shell patterns like a snail's. This is a pun on the Japanese word for snail (蝸牛) as it also uses the word for cow (牛), in addition to Mayoi's Animal Motif being snails in Bakemonogatari.

    Tsubasa Hanekawa

Tsubasa Hanekawa

The memorial magical girl. One of the 'what if' forms... of the heroines of the Monogatari series if they became magical girls. She lost her memories when she burnt something with a flame bottle, but her top-notch brain in her grade is constantly storing new memories. Her wish was "I want to forget everything".

  • Animal Motif: Cats and by extension, tigers. Her Magical Girl form turns her into a Cat Girl and her doppel is a tiger.
  • Braids of Action: As a Magical Girl, she swaps her Girlish Pigtails for a single cat tail-like braid.
  • Cast from Lifespan: Her magic uses her memories and emotions, since her wish was to "forget everything". Once she runs out of memories, she'll turn into a witch.
  • Impossibly-Low Neckline: Her top is just barely staying on.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: Her hair turns white when activating her doppel, with bonus Slip Knot Ponytail, a nod to when she's being possessed by the Meddlesome Cat spirit in Bakemonogatari.
  • Power Of Hate: Her doppel is a manifestation of her negative emotions, which also doubles as a nod to the "Nekomonogatari White" arc of Bakemonogatari.
  • The Unpronouncable: Her doppel's name isn't a real word but a made up kanji, so how it's supposed to be pronounced isn't immediately obvious. As of right now, official sources have yet to indicate the pronunciation.
  • Throw Down the Bomblet: Her primary weapons are molotov cocktails, made of her memories and emotions no less.

    Suruga Kanbaru

Suruga Kanbaru

The trailblazing magical girl. One of the 'what if' forms... of the heroines of the Monogatari series if they became magical girls. The motorcycle is integrated to her transformation. She's a star who led the Naoetsu High School basketball team to nationals, though she has a reckless manner of speech. Her wish was "I want to run faster than anyone."

  • Animal Motif: Monkeys. When she transforms she gains hair decorations that look like monkey ears and her doppel's form is said to be a "monkey's paw."
  • Improbable Weapon User: She uses a motorcycle to attack.
  • Shout-Out: Her transformation sequence has one to AKIRA. Specifically, it recreates the scene on the poster.

    Shinobu Oshino

The immortal magical girl. One of the 'what if' forms... of the heroines of the Monogatari series if they became magical girls. A legendary vampire, she became a magical girl by wishing "I wish to die", but the prey she hunts become nourishment for her and her life span extends instead. Her favorite food is donuts.

  • Animal Motif: Bats, fitting her nature as a vampire. She even gains a small pair of bat wings when she transforms. Unlike the other crossover characters, this motif does not carry over to her doppel (which instead resembles her adult, full-powered form).
  • Blush Stickers: Always has these.
  • Death Seeker: This carries over from her home series. Her doppel description says that she loathes her eternal life, and desires nothing but her own death.
  • Dual Wielding: Uses twin katanas to attack.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Uses two of them as her weapons when she transforms.

Lyrical Nanoha Characters

    Nanoha Takamachi

Nanoha Takamachi

Voiced by: Yukari Tamura

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/takamachi_nanoha_04.png

A magical girl with a straightforward heart, she attends Private Seishou Elementary School. A wielder of rare magic potential - as an aerial combat instructor for the Time-Space Administration Bureau, she works to crack down on interdimensional crime. To save those who can be saved with her own hands, today too, she flies through the sky. Left handed.

Introduced in the "Magia Clash!" event. The legendary Ace of Aces from another world, she wields the Intelligent Device Raising Heart. Like Ultimate Madoka and the Thousand-Year Sakura Rumor, she has a second Magia in place of a Doppel as she does not use a Soul Gem.

  • Mythology Gag: Nanoha being classified as Fire element is most likely a reference to her Material doppleganger Stern, who has Fire Mana Conversion Affinity.
  • Temporary Online Content: Exclusive to the "Magia Clash!" event's Part 1 gacha.
  • Wave-Motion Gun: Her claim to fame as a magical girl. Both of her Magias are gigantic pink lasers that are sure to befriend whatever they hit.
  • Wrong Context Magic: Nanoha's powers are not derived from making a wish via an Incubator and she has no risk on going Witch. Her gemstone on her staff is not a Soul Gem; it is really an alien computer that helps her do the mathematics required to make her magic work.

    Hayate Yagami

Hayate Yagami

Voiced by: Kana Ueda

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yagami_hayate_03.png

A cheerful, family-oriented magical girl who attends Private Seishou Elementary School. The chosen Master of the ancient magic book known as the Tome of the Night Sky, she was involved in a dimensional crime, but Nanoha and her friends saved her. After that, she became a Mage working for the Time-Space Administration Bureau, and alongside her guardian knights deals with incidents there. The food she makes is super tasty.

Introduced in the "Magia Clash!" event. A famed magical girl from another world who is the master of the Book of Darkness. She has a fairy familiar whom she calls Reinforce Zwei.

  • Dark Is Not Evil: Her magical girl form has black wings and she wields the Book of Darkness, but she's incredibly sweet and friendly. She's actually Forest element instead of Dark, however, as a Continuity Nod to the home series with the book's general association with plant growth.
  • Fusion Dance: Her transformation is her Unison form with Zwei.
  • Me's a Crowd: In her sidestory, during the tournament's break, Hayate finds herself with several clones and the other can't tell them apart. They decide to just ask questions about things only Hayate knows, but runs out of questions before they run out of clones. When they test the Hayates with a cooking contest, the Hayate all make delicious cheesecakes. It only ends when the last clone decides to just steal all the cheesecakes for itself.
  • Something Only They Would Say: How Reinforce Zwei figured out the real Hayate in her sidestory. Not only would the real Hayate know that Zafira hates being called a Familiar, clone Hayate missed out on the fact that she would never forget to count Reinforce Eins as a member of her family.
  • Supreme Chef: After exhausting questions to check whether the remaining Hayate are Mirror clone or not, everyone decide to just make them compete in a baking contest. The clones end up baking similarly delicious cheesecakes anyway.
  • Temporary Online Content: Exclusive to the "Magia Clash!" event, though she could be earned by exchanging Area Flags from completing event levels.
  • Wrong Context Magic: Hayate's's powers are not derived from making a wish via an Incubator. Her powers are derived from the Book of Darkness; a Lost Technology artifact. Her fairy familiar is its Operating System.

    Fate T. Harlaown

Fate T. Harlaown

Voiced by: Nana Mizuki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fate_t_harlaown_04.png

A quiet and gentle magical girl, she attends the private school Seishou Elementary. A denizen of the world Midchilda, she utilizes her speed magic to excel at attacking with a single shot. Her mother caused her to clash with Nanoha, but now, she's an airman at the Time-Space Administration Bureau alongside her. She is not good with shampoo.

Introduced in the "Magia Clash!" event. A gallant magical girl from another world who wields the Intelligent Device Bardiche. She was once Nanoha's rival, but is now her best friend. Like Nanoha, she has a second Magia instead of a Doppel since she doesn't use a Soul Gem.

  • Clones Are People, Too: Discussed; when informed that the main enemies in the Mirror Witch's labyrinth are magical girls' clones, Fate, who is a clone, asks whether they have soul or not. Momoko waves it off by claiming that the clones are mindless familiars. Fate decides to trust her judgment, and later on fight against her, Nanoha, and Hayate's clones without hesitation.
  • Cool Sword: The fact that Bardiche is a talking, shapeshifting, laser sword does not go unnoticed by the rest of the cast.
  • Dark Magical Girl: Former.
  • I Know Mortal Kombat: Inverted; Fate's skills as a soldier of TSAB makes her unmatched in a game of dodgeball.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Compared to the other TSAB mages, Fate is more a Fragile Speedster, but because of the different powerlevel scaling between worlds, Fate ends up being very fast and very strong against the Puella Magi. The majority of Nanoha's team victory is because Fate strikes first with such overwhelming power before anyone can react.
  • Temporary Online Content: Exclusive to the "Magia Clash!" event's Part 2 gacha.
  • Wrong Context Magic: Fate's powers are not derived from making a wish via an Incubator and she has no risk on going Witch. Her gemstone on her axe is not a Soul Gem; it is really an alien computer that helps her do the mathematics required to make her magic work.

Chisato Nishikigi

Voiced by: Chika Anzai

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chisato_magireco.png

A magical girl who is officially the self-proclaimed poster girl of Café LycoReco, but she's also an agent of a public secret organization called "Lycoris". She's always prioritizing what she wants to do, and enjoys solving problems in the private sector that the organization doesn't handle. She thinks magical girls are cool heroes.

  • Alternate Universe: Like the Nanoha characters, Chisato and Takina are not from the Magia Record universe but ended up in there by chance.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: She was already a master gun fighter before she contracted with Kyubey.
  • One-Steve Limit: The second playable character named Chisato after the character from Suzune Magica.

  • Alternate Universe: Like the Nanoha characters, Chisato and Takina are not from the Magia Record universe but ended up in there by chance.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Takina was already a trained gun fighter before she contracted with Kyubey.
