Angelina, Supporter Operator and Messenger of Rhodes Island, would like to provide help with her amazing Originium Arts.
Rarity: ★★★★★★
ID: No. 291
Subclass: Decel Binder
Tags: Slow, DPS, Support
Skills: Arcane Staff - Quick Charge Mode, Arcane Staff - Particle Mode, Arcane Staff - Anti-Gravity Mode
Talents: Accelerator Field, Part-time Job
Affiliation: Siracusa
Race: Vulpo
Birthday: May 14
Height: 162cm

"I'm Angelina Ajimu, a transporter from Siracusa. You can just call me Angelina. Can I call you Doctor?"

A young Siracusan transporter and smuggler with weight-manipulating Arts, who left her old life behind and eventually joined Rhodes Island after she became infected.

  • Aerith and Bob: She is one of notable "Bobs" in a setting filled with "Aeriths"
  • Alliterative Name: Her real name is Angelina Ajimu.
  • Animal Motifs: Foxes, due to her Vulpo race. One is also in the left side of her Elite 2 artwork.
  • "Blind Idiot" Translation: There are typos or broken English in Angelina's Archive File 3. The second sentence begins with "After she suffering her infection". Meanwhile, the last sentence calls her as "Angela".
  • Boring, but Practical: Her first skill simply gives her an attack buff and is automatically activated (which means less control), but is also the only way to keep her on the field while not letting her be a sitting duck when not activating a skill, and can let her fill in for Orchid and Istina, serving the typical Slower Supporter role.
  • Combat Medic: Her second talent Part-time Job lets her restore the HP of all allies at once, so long as her skills aren't activated. Notably, this also heals things/Operators that can't normally be healed, such as summons or enmity guards like Hellagur.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Her second and third skills both confer a substantial increase to damage output, but they also render her a sitting duck when not active, as her normal attacks are disabled while they're charging. Careful timing is needed to get maximum mileage out of her when Angelina's specced to use either of them, and in most cases she's typically put there to be a buffer and passive healer instead of a damage main.
  • Discard and Draw: Her second and third skills, Arcane Staff - Particle Mode and Arcane Staff - Anti-Gravity Mode respectively, are this trope - in exchange for being unable to use normal attacks, they give the following benefits:
    • Particle Mode increases her attack speed immensely, though each hit becomes considerably weaker. That said, the attack speed increase more than makes up for the reduced damage per hit, with the additional benefit of keeping an enemy permanently slowed as long as they stay within Angelina's range.
    • Anti-Gravity Mode increases Angelina's attack, gives her much more range, lets her attack 5 enemies at once, and reduces the weight of all enemies within her expanded range. The last benefit lets her synergize well with Push/Pull Specialists.
  • Foregone Conclusion: Her appearance in Arknights: Endfield all but confirms it as a Stealth Sequel to Arknights.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Angelina is introduced as a newbie with great potential. This is especially true in gameplay, where she doesn't seem anything special and just an ordinary Decel Binder. However, if you level her further and train her, she gets a completely unique ability with a decent uptime.
  • Girlish Pigtails: She has thick twintails.
  • Gravity Master: Her Arts abilities let her manipulate objects' weights. This comes into effect with her Arcane Staff Anti-Gravity Mode skill, making all enemies within her range more vulnerable to Shift Specialists.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • She likes jewelry, young adult novels, and old music.
    • She has a weird hobby of jumping or gliding between building during nighttime. When Rhodes Island sought her out, she was gliding between two skyscrapers. It turns out to be a part of her courier duties.
  • Image Song: "Autumn Moods".
  • Living a Double Life: She's initially seen as a normal high school girl. But during nighttime, she works as a courier, smuggling goods from one place to another.
  • Loophole Abuse: Angelina is known for being able to heal everyone passively when her skills are not active. This includes operators that cannot be healed normally and summons, and even the imprisonment devices in Mansfield Break.
  • Magic Missile Storm: Her S2 and S3 are capable of this, in that as soon as they're activated, she unleashes beams of energy rapid-fire for the entire duration. Her S3 also increases her range, making her able to hit enemies from what's normally outside of her range. Combined with the heightened arts damage that slows targets on hit, this makes her a good operator if one needs to deal with fast-moving enemies and/or wraith-type enemies that would pass through operators. This skill is the source of her nickname "CC Goddess" as she was a mainstay in almost all high-risk clear strategies of CC Pyrite's permanent map (which involved a Zerg Rush of wraith leaders, breakers, and had Crownslayer as boss whose teleporting could not be disabled).
  • Magikarp Power: As it stands, Angelina is somewhat of a ho-hum operator in an already niche class. While she does many things, she does none of them very well until you promote her to Elite 2... at which point she gains a completely unique ability and becomes the enabler of entire new categories of strategy. Getting there, though, takes a lot of time, materials, and money, all of which you will not be swimming in until you've been playing for a while. As such, she makes for a very powerful late game unit, but is generally seen as quite mediocre and replaceable early on.
    • Funnily, she is known for this both by the playerbase and the files, which say that she could be amazing if she was trained to bring out her full potential.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter:
    • Angelina is currently the only operator in which their regular attacks can be disabled while equipped with certain skills - in Angelina's case, it's her second and third skill.note
    • A minor cosmetic one: she's the one of the few operators (along with Bard Supporters and Phalanx Casters) that does not have a "back-facing" sprite during operations.
  • The Non Descript: Because she is a smuggler, she is fairly nondescript compared to the more quirky operators of Rhodes Island like Ifrit and Gummy. This is reflected in her codename just being her first. Her in-game files are also pretty short, and don't describe much about her past except for her smuggling job.
  • Online Alias: Her Obsgram username is "AngelAngelina".
  • Pineapple Ruins Pizza: Chapter 9 of Angelina's manhua sees her running a food stall in Siesta alongside Croissant, trying to sell traditional Siracusan pizza but failing to attract any customers. Angelina is horrified to learn that this is because most Siestans prefer their pizza with pineapple, and after some convincing from Croissant, tearfully adds it to her own pizza for the sake of their stall's success.
Angelina: This is... a disgrace to Siracusa!
  • Power Floats: Her Quality Visitors skin has her floating for both her combat and base animations, even riding around on her staff like a broom in the latter.
  • Ship Tease: Her higher-trust voice lines are incredibly shippy. She develops a very obvious crush on the Doctor and wishes they would reciprocate.
  • Situational Sword: Her Anti-Gravity Mode's weight reduction effect is only really useful if you're looking to make use of Shift Specialists, such as Shaw or Cliffheart. Otherwise, it doesn't confer much tactical advantage.
  • Status Buff: Her Accelerator Field talent passively buffs the ASPD of all active Operators while she's alive.
  • Sucking-In Lines: While her second and third skills do not allow Angelina to attack on cooldown, she instead makes a stance wherein energy lines converge on her staff until the skill is activated.
  • Too Many Belts: Not normally, but in her Bloodline of Combat skin.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Her Arts ability is the manipulation of an object's weight, but as her Archive File states, Angelina could be amazing if she's properly trained.
  • Venturous Smuggler: She is this after school, being a smuggler and courier.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: After becoming Infected, she left behind her family, friends, and home without saying goodbye.

"I'm Deepcolor, a painter. That's right, just a 'painter', nothing more."

A mysterious, gifted artist with an decadent past, unique Arts, and a group of strange pets that cater to her needs. However, it quickly becomes painfully clear that a lot about Deepcolor is not as it seems...

  • Animal Motifs: She has one with cephalopods. Due to the design of her hat and her Elite 2 art however, she seems to be based more specifically on either dumbo octopuses or vampire squid.
  • Art Attacker: Her general Arts ability is this; she's able to bring at least certain kinds of drawings to life, and uses her notebook and brush as Arts catalysts to attack. This is wildly different from anything Rhodes has ever encountered and makes a lot of the Rhodes higher-ups very curious about her. Exaggerated in her Operator Record, when a priest from the Church of the Deep hunted her down for the crime of abandoning the Seaborn hivemind. She summoned tentacles and what was implied to be the Nethersea Brand from the walls of her room to kill said priest.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Her photographic memory also allows her to understand a person through their lifestyle choices or daily habits.
  • Becoming the Mask: It's... much harder to tell how true this is with Deepcolor, compared to Skadi or Specter. She does seem ultimately dedicated to her potential mission even at high trust levels (though it takes on the form of her being eager to show you the artistry of the Deep), but throughout her voice lines, she makes a number of comments that seem to point to her really, genuinely loving Rhodes Island and the world of light and color she now inhabits, and suggests that her life in the Deep... was sadder, much lonelier, and never gave her the sense of purpose or self-confidence she feels among the Doctor and her friends at Rhodes.
"Um, could you just... stop caring about me? If you keep treating me like this... like I matter... I-I don't know what will become of me..."
  • Combat Tentacles: She can summon tentacles to attack enemies.
  • Defector from Decadence: Her Operator Record reveals that Deepcolor is an Aegirian that agreed to become a Seaborn after being fascinated by the creatures' beauty, but eventually decided to abandon the hivemind and left the Church of the Deep after realizing that the Seaborn is incapable of appreciating art, and becoming one would take away her ability to do so.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: As a first-generation Summon-type Supporter, Deepcolor's kit is very strange compared to her later classmates. Unlike Magallan, Ling, Scene and Mayer, Deepcolor doesn't have any kind of ability that would allow her to retrieve her summons or generate new ones for that matter, instead relying on her S1 to keep them alive and healthy. Her tentacles also don't offer much in the way of battlefield control unlike Magallan's drones, Ling's dragons, Scene's buggy cameras, and Mayer's Meeboos, being more akin to low-rent Guards instead. Finally, she's the only Summon Supporter that can directly buff her teammates, unlike aforementioned operators' self-centered kits.
  • Expy: Of Katsushika Hokusai from Fate/Grand Order as cephalopod-themed painters that can bring things to life and their dedication to art keeping them sane from having contact with an Eldritch Abomination.
  • Magikarp Power: If you fully invest into her second skill, it becomes unbelievably powerful; it grants every operator within basically a three-tile cone in front of her, including her tentacles, 50% physical evasion for a full minute while also expanding her attack range to that cone. And she can do this 20 seconds after the battle starts. You do have to take it all the way to full mastery to get this effect, however; even at just level 7, it loses 15% evasion, eight seconds of initial charge, and twelve seconds of duration. And just to get the skill, you need to at least Elite 1 her, and getting the most out of the increased range means you probably want to at least max out her E1 level.
  • Mook Maker: This is basically what she is - she can drop between two and four tentacles on the ground, depending on rarity, that block enemies and attack independently.
  • Mundane Utility: Given the way she describes colours and the unusual properties of her paints, she's clearly using her Seaborn-enhanced vision to appreciate colours from just beyond normal human visible ranges and using her Netherbrand to create the unusual blue-adjacent pigments in her works.
  • Photographic Memory: Deepcolor has this talent, which is a benefit of being well-versed in different forms of art and painting. It's so detailed that she even sees and remembers flaws in people that they weren't aware of which coincidentally could be a benefit of being well-versed in different forms of spy craft and subterfuge.
  • Red Herring: Her initial release implied that Deepcolor was a member of the Abyssal Hunters. Her Operator Record reveals that she's actually an Aegirian who voluntarily became a Sea Terror, only to leave the hive mind once she realized that remaining would cost her the ability to enjoy art.
  • Ship Tease: If you get her trust up high, it becomes pretty obvious that she has a thing for the Doctor and is very eager to show them the full extent of her knowledge of art. Which specifically involves her knowledge of the "colors" of the capital-D Deep and what lies there. It also seems pretty likely that you're more or less the main thing keeping her at Rhodes and preventing her from returning to the Abyssals and reporting everything she's seen.
"Haha... so this is your color? Look into my eyes, then... paint me in your colors."
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: Her introduction line is this:
"I'm Deepcolor, a painter. That's right, just a "painter", nothing more."
  • Unreliable Narrator: According to Deepcolor's file, she was born in Columbia and grew up a normal life before joining Rhodes Island. However, a secret investigation discovers the background she gave to Rhodes Island is a lie as they found no evidence she was born in Columbia and are now suspicious on where Deepcolor is really from.
  • Walking Spoiler: Yes, she's just a painter. There is absolutely nothing in her later profile and voice lines that raise tons of questions about her and provide intriguing Plot Threads, don't be ridiculous.

Earthspirit, Supporter Operator of Rhodes Island, will provide reliable support on the battlefield when she's on duty.
Rarity: ★★★★
ID: No. 183
Subclass: Decel Binder
Tags: Slow
Skills: ATK Up β, Quicksand Conversion
Talents: Geological Survey
Affiliation: Leithanien
Race: Caprinae
Birthday: April 5
Height: 161cm

"I'm Earthspirit, a geology scholar and Caster, reporting in. I work eight hours each day. Make me work any more and you'll have to pay me extra."

A geologist who works as a Catastrophe Messenger and claims to be able to hear rocks speak.

  • Animal Motifs: Goats, a skeleton of one even appears in her Elite 2 artwork. She's most likely based on alpine ibex, as her horns resemble a female one.
  • Call-Forward: Her Operator Record is set two days before Eyjafjalla's two-part Operator Record.
Earthspirit: Don't you have a field operation with Barty in two days?
  • Consummate Professional: She's the most serious of the Catastrophe Messengers, especially compared to the more whimsical Provence. Her introduction line has her laying down the terms of her contract, and her RIIC skill post-"Walk in the Dust" update has one of the highest HR contract speed with a morale malus that prevents her from working overtime from said contract terms. Her Operator Record reveals that she becomes this serious with her work because her teacher was burnt on the stake because their Catastrophe calculation caused the city they were stationed in to starve from crop failure.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Evident in her Elite 2 artwork, where the red thigh bands on her legs aren't parallel to each other.
  • Herd-Hitting Attack: Her second skill Quicksand Conversion will slow all enemies within range of her temporarily. The trouble is that she will stop attacking for the duration of the skill.
  • Horned Humanoid: She has goat-like horns.
  • Lady Looks Like a Dude: Without listening to her voice or reading her bio, one could easily mistake her for a young man, given her clothing, somewhat Bishonen-esque features, and, well, flat chest. Her Elite 2 artwork makes it more obvious that she's a girl though.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: Her mentor, Professor Bachmann, was killed after she was used as a scapegoat for a false Catastrophe alarm.
  • Minored in Ass-Kicking: She's better as a bureaucrat working in Rhodes Island's HR office than as a combat operator, but it doesn't mean she doesn't have her use in the battlefield.
  • Super-Hearing: A side effect of her Arts is that she can "hear" the frequencies at which rocks vibrate, which allows her to better identify them as well as manipulate them with her Arts.
  • Talking Weapon: Downplayed. She claims that the hunk of Originium on her staff can speak, but it started off as unintelligible mess. When Earthspirit is starting to understand what it says, only she can hear the staff's "voice", even if there are other Operators around.
  • Tragic Keepsake: She keeps an antique motorcycle that was gifted to her by her late mentor Professor Bachmann, and refuses to replace it, even if it means paying a small fortune to keep it maintained due to the lack of parts.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Earthspirit has very disappointing stats, even for a 4-star. However, her second skill and talent make her extremely good at slowing and stalling large groups of enemies within a sizable radius. This means that all Earthspirit needs to be viable are her Elite 1 promotion to unlock Quicksand Conversion and its upgrades, and nothing else. Promoting her to Elite 2 simply improves her slow duration with Geological Survey on top of giving her mildly better stats, which can be overlooked if one so chooses.
  • The Workaholic: She is seen almost constantly working. When she isn't performing her regular research as a geologist, she's moonlighting as a Catastrophe Messenger in order to help financially support her family.

Glaucus, weapon reviewer of Raythean, is ready to take down enemy machines with the latest technology.
Rarity: ★★★★★
ID: No. 326
Subclass: Decel Binder
Tags: Slow, Crowd-Control
Skills: Binary Reload, Counter EMP
Talents: Countermeasure Device
Affiliation: Iberia
Race: Unknown
Birthday: July 27
Height: 159cm

"Operator Glaucus reporting. May I go back to my room now?"

One of Raythean's weapons testers with a significant amount of technological expertise under her belt.

  • Animal Motifs: Sea slugs, particularly from the genus Glaucus. One appears in her Elite 2 art.
  • Anti-Air: Glaucus's talent gives her the trait "Attacks aerial units first" like snipers. Unlike snipers, her trait also makes her deal extra damage to aerial units. If Glaucus uses her second skills, aerial units will be disabled and take massive damage.
  • Delicate and Sickly: She suffers from a hereditary degenerative nerve disease that is slowly paralyzing her lower body. She has to use a powered exoskeleton in order to walk normally.
  • Destructive Saviour: Well, not her so much as her weapon. While very powerful against enemy drones, it's also noted to cause considerable damage to surrounding facilities and other operators' equipment.
  • EMP: Her gun, Raythean Franker, basically fires this. It's a justification why she deals extra damage to drones.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: She's a highly skilled weapon designer and good with techologies related to electricity and electromagnetism. Her current weapon is her modification of a failed Raythean communications jamming device into a highly destructive EMP gun.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: While her trust files note that her gun tends to damage other operators' equipment, in game she can use it just fine around allied drones.
  • Mysterious Past: She is highly implied to be connected in some way with the Abyssal Hunters, with her Trust 4 file describing her and her family as possibly being "involved in a secret heretical organization in the Ægir Region." Also, other than the other techheads like Closure and Vulcan, she's shown to be quite friendly to the operators connected to the Abyssal Hunters.
  • No-Sell: While it doesn't affect her gameplay at all, one of her trust files note that her body produces antibodies capable of rendering nerve paralyzers and hallucinogens ineffective, though conventional poisons still work. This is probably why she's noted as one of the few operators willing to try Blue Poison's desserts. This trait is likely a reference to real-life Glaucus sea slugs' diet of venomous sea creatures like the Portuguese man o' war.
  • Powered Armor: Glaucus's lower extremity muscle strength is only one-half of the adult average and is still shrinking due to a hereditary disease passed down in her family. Her exoskeleton equipment is naturally to compensate for her mobility problems.

Former Karlan Trade Chief Technical Officer, not interested in a single thing beyond technology.
Rarity: ★★★★★★
ID: No. 206
Subclass: Hexer
Tags: Debuff
Skills: High-Speed Cogitation, Zero-Point Burst, Hypothermia
Talents: Rigid Ice, Two Paths, One Goal
Affiliation: Karlan Trade Co., Ltd - Kjerag
Race: Liberi
Birthday: December 11
Height: 188cm

"Pleasure to make finally make your acquaintance, Doctor of Rhodes Island. I've been eager to meet you ever since Karlan began its relationship with your company. You may call me Gnosis."

The former CTO of the Karlan Trade Company, and an incredibly dedicated scientific researcher with a long history with SilverAsh and his family.

  • Zero-Approval Gambit: In "Break the Ice", it's revealed that Gnosis being fired from Karlan Trade Co. was all a ruse, as Gnosis was perfectly willing to play the villain to not only give SilverAsh plausible deniability, but also to use his disgraced status to manipulate SilverAsh's rivals.
  • Achilles' Heel: As Gnosis's kit revolves around inflicting the Freeze status to control enemies and increase allies' damage to them, his utility plummets against enemies that are immune to being frozen.
  • All the Other Reindeer: Due to the circumstances of the death of SilverAsh's parents and the Frame-Up, Gnosis is scrutinized by the people of Kjerag, and even when he co-founded Karlan Trade together with SilverAsh, the scrutiny still followed him. Gnosis himself, however, does not care about the treatment he gets, only caring about getting the results that he wanted out of helping his friend, as well as his scientific research and discovery.
  • An Ice Person: Shoots ice shots at enemies as his default attack.
    • His first talent, Rigid Ice allows his attacks to innately inflict the Cold status effect (along with Frozen) against enemies for one second as well as weaken those affected; at Elite 2, enemies within his attack range under the effect of Cold will be inflicted with 25% fragile (frozen enemies have 50% fragile instead). He won't be able to freeze enemies easily with his basic attacks on his own however (due to the Cold/Frozen duration being shorter than his attack interval), though his skills can help with this:
    • His first skill, High-Speed Cogitation makes his next attack deal damage twice. When taking his talent into account, this means that every skill proc will freeze a single target.
    • His second skill, Zero-Point Burst, is a very low cost SP skill that will instantly unleash a single burst of true-AoE Arts damage against all enemies in range, inflicting a longer lasting Cold; overcharging the skill freezes enemies instead.
    • His third skill, Hypothermia, increases his attack speed and attacks two targets simultaneously. All frozen enemies within range will remain frozen until the skill ends, in which they will take massive Arts damage afterwards. While the skill does not increase his ATK apart from the final burst damage, this does allow him to take advantage of his own fragile debuffs during the skill duration.
  • Animal Motifs: Red-crowned cranes. One appears in his Elite 2 artwork, and two in his Bloodline of Combat skin. The red streaks his hair are likely a reference to the crane's red head.
  • Bad Boss: Implied. When working as Karlan Trade's CTO, although he made great strides in the company's technology, he was pretty much universally disliked by his employees for only caring about their ends and not the necessary means.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: "The Rides to Lake Silberneherze" shows this to be absolutely the case, as he is completely pissfaced while meeting up with Silver Ash and Degenbrecher, and it only takes a single laugh out of him before he pukes all over himself, which is a massive contrast to his cool, calm and collected character he presents himself normally as.
  • Childhood Friends: "Break the Ice" reveals that Gnosis's family, the Edelweiss, are close allies to the Silverash family and thus SilverAsh and Gnosis knew each other since childhood.
  • Coat Cape: Wears one in his Elite 2 artwork.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff: His first talent causes enemies in his range affected by Cold to take additional damage, which doubles if the target is Frozen instead. Notably, this gives him the largest potential Fragile effect in the game against enemies vulnerable to freeze, 64% with his module and Potential 4.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: He was seen in various promotional images in Arknights (such as this one) until his proper debut in Break the Ice, more than two years after Arknights was released; his earliest appearance was as far back as the Kjerag trailer (at 0:14) from before Arknights was even released.
  • For Science!: Gnosis' first and foremost motivation is research and discovery, and as a so-called "pure" scientist, he shows little care for anything else. He almost never shows emotion, and he treats everybody bluntly with no care for their feelings (even SilverAsh, whom he is unfailingly loyal to), which earns him the ire of many of Rhodes' other staff. However, although Rhodes Island was initially hesitant to accept him out of fear he would disregard ethical standards for his research, he is perfectly willing to accept such restrictions.
  • Frame-Up: The "Break the Ice" event reveals that the Edelweiss family were framed as the culprit that led to the death of SilverAsh's parents by the Browntail family, who took the opportunity of the accident that killed the couple to gain power.
  • Freudian Excuse: He was ostracized by the entirety of Kjerag for a crime that was allegedly committed by his parents, to the point where his family saw no choice but to leave their home for Victoria instead, leaving his closest friend behind. Decades later when he returns to Kjerag he is still regarded as a villain and Hated by All with people openly questioning why his closest friend associates with him and badmouthing him directly within his earshot. It's less a wonder he went from a well-adjusted child to a Jerkass - more that he ended with any emotional connections at all
  • Friends All Along: With SilverAsh, and the plot twist of Break the Ice. Gnosis begins the story as a disgruntled former employee and apparent villain, working to bring SilverAsh down in revenge, only for BI-6 to reveal the whole plan of getting fired and pretending to be a traitor was Gnosis's idea in the first place, and Enciodes shakes his hand and says he's very glad Gnosis is his "dearest friend" after the bulk of their gambit succeeds.
  • Friendship Trinket: Invoked with his potential token and also played straight that he had given a dagger to Monch before. The flavor text of his token also reveals that it's something akin to a tradition from his family as handing out an item they crafted or forged to others is one of the ways the Edelweiss show their friendship.
A self-defense dagger he forged after his arrival at Rhodes Island. You only found out far later, by pure chance, that this is one of the ways the Edelweisses show their friendship.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Due to the Frame-Up that has befallen on the Edelweiss family over the deaths of SilverAsh's parents, Gnosis' reputation in Kjerag is at a complete rock bottom which only got worse at the end of the "Break The Ice" event, by which SilverAsh chose to send Gnosis to Rhodes Island. While Gnosis himself doesn't care about how the people of Kjerag see him, he sees having to deal with it as a complete annoyance and a disturbance to his research.
  • Hidden Depths: It's implied by Degenbrecher that the negative feelings he expressed while acting out his fake coup against SilverAsh in "Break the Ice" were actually grounded in reality, but ultimately his friendship and visionary beliefs for Kjerag trumps any true misgivings he might have held. He also genuinely valued Monch as his subordinate, even though his lack of understanding of emotional connections prevented him from expressing it appopriately.
  • Image Song: “Heal the World” (no, not that Michael Jackson song).
  • Jerkass: While he's not a bad guy, Gnosis is not a pleasant person, being rather cold, blunt, unfeeling, and a little unethical at times when it comes to his research. He does have a kinder side to him, but it's deeply buried under his cynicism.
  • Mad Scientist: He has elements of one, as he's primarily concerned with pursuing his research rather than his moral stances, and even chides the Doctor that Rhodes Island can achieve far more technological progress if the company stops caring about ethics. Although it's very downplayed compared to other examples, as while he usually favors a cold, pragmatic approach, he does show an interest in alternative approaches with sufficient reasoning and also willingly accepts constraints on him while working with Rhodes Island without complaints, even if he personally disagrees with them.
  • Meaningful Name: His name refers to the Greek term for knowledge, fitting for a researcher with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. His entire family was historically responsible for the gathering and protection of Kjerag's knowledge.
  • Morality Pet: Monch is one to him, to the point he repeatedly covers for her whenever he can during the plan with SilverAsh... however, because Poor Communication Kills, he was unable to share the details of the plan with her out of loyalty to SilverAsh, which led to Monch's Undying Loyalty in him being tested and ultimately shattered when she comes to the belief that he does not trust her enough to reveal the scope of his intents despite how much she invested in him, leading to Monch wordlessly swearing him off by vanishing after it's all said and done, something that does clearly weigh on him as he stands there in her empty cell.
  • Moveset Clone: The effect of his talent as well as its looks is a near carbon copy of Blaze's talent, although Gnosis applies Resist to everyone in his faction, not just himself.
    • With his second talent, he interestingly enough also plays similarly to Bibeak, as it's a quick charge skill with a very short crowd-control and burst damage effect. This is showcased here.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Despite being about as uncaring and apathetic as one can get towards other people, Monch cutting ties with him and leaving the dagger he gave her behind is the only time he's showed something akin to genuine regret.
  • One Degree of Separation: His voice line reveals that he has met Shining in the past, it's implied that he met her during a time when Shining is still part of the Confessarius.
  • The One Guy: He has the distinction of being the first ever male operator of the Supporter class released in over two years and until the release of Windflit in the Third year Anniversary of Arknights in the Chinese launch, was the only male Supporter for a while.
  • Red Herring: Invoked. In "Break The Ice", he is initially seen as the villain of the event but he's actually just a distraction from Silverash, the actual Big Bad of the event.
  • The Spock: Between him and SilverAsh, while both of them are analytical and smart individuals, Gnosis is less inclined to be emotionally driven with his motives and always approach things with only scientific research in mind and no emotional attachments, as one of his homescreen voice lines says this when you gain more trust from him.
Gnosis: The best way you can earn my trust is by showing me your true academic strengths, and it seems you've already realized as much, Doctor. I am not like SilverAsh. I am not interested in deeper emotional exchanges.
  • Situational Sword: His second talent causes him to grant all Karlan Trade Operators permanent Status Resistance if he's been deployed for a few seconds.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: During "Break The Ice," he willingly poses as a traitor to act as a Red Herring for SilverAsh. Although SilverAsh initially voices dislike for the plan, Gnosis states that he will do it regardless, and he's suited for the role as the "son of a sinner," and claims it will be just another item on his list of charges. During a flashback it's shown that Gnosis's family was falsely framed for the death of SilverAsh's parents and they were compelled to leave Kjerag because of it.
  • Tsundere: A Rare Male Example. He constantly criticizes SilverAsh, but also worries about his potential death during 'Break the Ice', expressing it in a very backhanded way by saying he only wishes he has a chance to save him, and generally speaks as though he cares far less for SilverAsh than he actually does deep down.
  • Undying Loyalty: Towards SilverAsh. His 200 Trust operator file states that aside from his research, "the one and only thing" he cares about and will "devote his heart and soul" towards is Karlan Trade's affairs and [SilverAsh's] concerns for Kjerag's future. This likely stems from the fact that Enciodes never believed or blamed Gnosis for the deaths of his parents like the rest of Kjerag did, going as far to defy majority opinion and name Gnosis CTO of Karlan Trade despite knowing that Gnosis was an unpopular figure. He still refers to Gnosis as his "dearest friend", and Gnosis repays the sentiment with his loyalty.
  • Unishment: At the end of "Break the Ice", Enciodes assigns Gnosis to serve as his representative to Rhodes Island. To the average citizen of Kjerag, this looks like exile as a punishment for Gnosis's treachery. What Enciodes is actually doing is rewarding his oldest and most trusted friend by giving him a chance to pursue his research, largely free of distractions or interruptions, in one of the most technologically-advanced facilities in Terra.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Implied during the flashback to his teenage years, where SilverAsh comments that he never used to sneer at people or belittle them.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds:
    • Has shades of this with SilverAsh. Gnosis constantly rags on him for being indecisive, arrogant, perfectionist, and (not for the first time) enjoying the thrill of potentially losing (to which SilverAsh tells him they'll have plenty of time to argue about that later), but none of that changes the fact that Gnosis happily and willingly pretended to be a traitor and didn't care about being publicly humiliated in order to advance their plans of modernizing Kjerag. SilverAsh likewise shoots back at him that the look on Gnosis's face at the prospect of exploring Rhodes Island's technology is about as gleeful as what Gnosis always accuses him of.
    • Also with Degenbrecher. In the prequel manhua "Sharp Swordbreaker, Silver Edge," Gnosis is snarky and sharp to her as is his usual, something which she responds to in kind usually with an amused smirk, up to threatening that Enciodes doesn't actually need her, but still allows Degenbrecher to half-carry him home as he (and Enciodes) is too inebriated to walk unaided and asks her for hangover pills. She teases him for needing them at all for the light wines at the banquet, but still continues to carry him after he gives her a reluctant thank-you and passes out.

"I've been wanting to meet all you Rhodes Islanders since a good long time ago. Very glad to make your acquaintance again, Doctor. Just call me Heidi."

A Victorian novelist and daughter to the famous poet Sir Thomson. She first met Dr. Kal'tsit while working as a messenger over a decade ago, delivering a pair of letters to her in private at a dinner party.

  • Adorably Precocious Child: She's not exactly a child in her first appearance during A Walk in the Dust, but she's noted to still be below the legal drinking age in Victoria. She also hates being treated like a child and constantly tries to act older and more responsible than she is, which the nobles only find endearing.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Count Vincent suspects that one of her motives for sneaking into his party was to look for boys, and her response when Vincent tells her about his guest is to ask if they're a "refined, mannerly Sankta gentleman" on the older side. At the same time, she's also very taken by Kal'tsit when they meet, being reduced to a stammering mess and having some moments that make her having a Precocious Crush almost obvious.
  • Animal Motifs: Persian cats. One can be seen in her E2 art.
  • Damsel in Distress: In Chapter 10, Heidi was captured for rebelling against the Sarkaz occupation of Londinium and held captive in an abandoned factory turned detention center, however, she was able to at least rally a majority of the captives with her to rebel together by the time Amiya and the Doctor arrived.
  • Discard and Draw: Unusually, her two skills have complete opposite effects, focused on offense and defense respectively. Her first skill causes all Operators in her range to lose 3 Block and gives them an ATK buff, while her second skill instead causes them gives them 1 Block while buffing their HP, DEF, and healing from Heidi's trait. Similar to Nightmare, her talent also changes its effect based on which skill she has equipped, with equipping her first skill passively giving nearby allies a small ATK buff and using her second giving them an equivalent DEF buff.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Was a minor supporting character in A Walk in the Dust, about a year before her playable debut in Chapter 10.
  • Hero of Another Story: Heidi has been very busy since the player saw her several years ago in her first appearance as she's been serving as Rhodes Island's informant within Londinium and helping Eartha by using her high-class connections. Fragments of this story can be read in the notebook clippings unlocked by beating certain chapter 10 maps.
  • Situational Sword: Her second talent passively speeds up the auto SP regeneration rate of all allies in range. Great, right? Only catch is that it only works while playing stages in Episode 10, unfortunately.
  • She Is All Grown Up: 13 years since her first appearance in a flashback has done wonders for her physical beauty, having grown notably taller and more mature than when we last saw her. She also wears a fancy black dress emphasizing and accentuating her bare shoulders and curves.

Istina, member of Ursus Student Self-government Group, will beat the enemy with Originium Arts chosen from one of her books.
Rarity: ★★★★★

"I am Istina. I'm still a student, but I'm able to use Arts, so I was recruited as a Caster... I know, it is rather strange for a student to be in a place like this."

A well-read Ursin student who was caught up in the fall of Chernobog and helped with the subsequent formation of the Ursus Student Self-Governing Group.

  • Animal Motifs: Appropriately enough, spectacled bears. Both her asset file names and the fine print on her coat textures reference this.
  • Badass Bookworm: Istina is much better-educated and well-read than her fellow Ursin operators. Upon closer inspection, the book she's holding in her character CG is on Marxism-Leninism, which hilariously implies either our world is fictional in-setting, or that the Soviet Russia, Ukraine, and So On actually existed in-universe, at least up until the time of Joseph Stalin, who coined the term in the first place.
  • Bilingual Bonus: She occasionally peppers her speech with Russian phrases and words in her English dubbed voiceline.
  • Bookworm: An absolutely voracious reader who spends pretty much all of her non-combat time reading whatever she can get her hands on from cooking magazines to political treatises to mystery novels. This manifests in both her skills:
    • Her S1 Concentration starts off with a small attack interval reduction at Level 1, which becomes even faster when it's maxed out and specialized.
    • Her S2 Literature Storm increases her ATK by 20% at Level 1 and allows her to attack one extra target for the duration, this on top of her increased range, which allows her to hit more targets around her; at Level 7, and at full specialization, her ATK will increase by 75% and she can attack two extra targets.
  • Childhood Friends: With Zima. They used to be neighbors, until Istina moved away.
  • Dull Eyes of Unhappiness: Every time she reminisces about her experience in Peterheim Middle School, her sprite portrait has her eyes losing their shine.
  • Edible Ammunition: Her alternate skin has her trade her spell book for a stack of pancakes, which she chucks at baddies to slow them down. With her second skill, she pours honey into her pancakes, which will fire energy shots towards enemies. Don't ask, it just works.
  • Fangirl: Of detective novels in particular, as she gushes enthusiastically about it to anyone who asks and refuses to let other people spoil the twist to anyone who hasn't read them. It's never actually stated what books she's been reading, but dialogue heavily implies it's Agatha Christie novels because she references two iconic twists from Christie's bibliographynote .
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: In her initial artwork, there is a black band on her right leg.
  • Fragile Speedster: The talent Explorer, which she receives upon being promoted to Elite 2, seems to have this in mind for her, gaining a little bit more attack speed... at the expense of becoming even squishier than she already is.
  • Gratuitous Russian: Her Cyrillic name, Истина, means "truth" in Russian.
  • High-Class Glass: Istina wears a monocle on her left eye, and she's the avid book-reader among the Ursus operators.
  • Motifs: Aside from her Animal Motifs, Istina's second motif revolves around Books, fitting her bookworm characterization. Istina's artworks always show her carrying a book, especially in her Elite 2 promotion art, which shows her standing on top of stacked books while pages are scattered around her, and a library is seen on the background. Her "Rhodes Kitchen: Savour Book" skin is even named with that motif, while also showing Istina reading a book and having plenty of Agatha Christie references in the background as detailed on the game's Shout-Out tab.
  • Odd Friendship: With May, due to their shared interest in literature, particularly detective novels. Even though Istina finds May mildly irritating for inexplicably latching onto her as a self-appointed apprentice as seen in Children of Ursus, she admits that she likes having May around in some part.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Besides the fact that she can act as a cheaper alternative to a Splash Caster with better range with Literature Storm, Istina's really nothing special compared to the likes of other Decel Binders like Angelina or a proper Splash Caster, especially in terms of survivability and damage.
  • Power Floats: When using Literature Storm, Istina will hover slightly above ground.
  • Rude Hero, Nice Sidekick: The nice sidekick to Zima's rude hero, Istina is far more polite and open to communication, and is openly aware of Zima's rudeness being a liability at times but asserts that Zima is far more competent and self-aware than some would give her credit for.
  • The Smart Girl: Of Zima's group. Despite Zima being The Leader, it is Istina's wise, educated advice that keeps the group together, so in a sense she's also The Heart, though to a lesser extent than Gummy.
  • The Strategist: Implied with her Elite 2 Military Advisor RIIC skill, which increases the chances of getting "Ursus Self-Governing Group" clues (Clue 4) when she's put in the Reception Room.
  • Spell Book: Istina attacks by firing magic missiles from her book. The power of Marxism-Leninism is tremendously damaging, it seems.
  • Spoiling Shout-Out: One of her lines as assistant discusses her surprise at the ending to Murder on the Orient Express (Yes, this also implies that Agatha Christie's bibliography is to some extent in circulation in-universe).
  • Squishy Wizard: Owing to her abysmal DEF, Istina has the second worst effective HP among all Supporters, with only Glaucus being slightly squishier. Worse yet, her Elite 2 talent Explorer slaps her with a -35% DEF penalty whether you like it or not, which cannot be alleviated in any way. This makes placing her a very precarious proposition considering the game's aggro system, so unless you're willing to immediately place down someone else to act as her Meat Shield, Istina wouldn't last very long on the field if the enemy is packing ranged attacks, even with Medic support.
  • Stronger Than They Look: Despite her frail bookworm appearance, Istina still possesses the physical strength her race is known for. Zima's account in Children of Ursus states that Istina can fight really well, but she just doesn't like to apply herself.
  • Survivor Guilt: Her particular trauma from Chernobog incident was from her experience witnessing her best friend Vika falling to her death. While everyone keeps telling her that Vika's death isn't her fault and there was nothing she could do to prevent it, the way the flashback shown implies that Istina let Vika died when she could have saved her from falling, thus her death was definitely Istina's fault.
  • Tragic Keepsake: The teddy bear that appears in her E2 art belonged to her best friend Vika before the Chernobog Incident where she witnessed her death from the argument of attempting to betray Zima. She kept it afterwards and named it after her friend.
  • Trauma Button: Witnessing people teeter on the edge of a notable height triggers her traumatic memories regarding Vika's death, as seen when May hurts herself trying to catch Silence's drone outside Istina's room.
  • Utility Party Member: Due to her slightly awkward kit that falls under Situational Sword at best, Istina (or most Supporters for that matter) isn't used all that often. However, many players still take the time to raise her to Elite 2 for her RIIC skill, Strategist, which increases the chances of Clue 4 dropping in a search. Apart from Istina, no one else had this skill until the release of Absinthe, making her invaluable when searching for this specific clue, which in itself is already memetic due to its abysmal drop chance.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: With her home city of Chernobog destroyed and her family presumably dead, it was only natural for Istina to join Rhodes Island with Zima and Gummy.
  • You Do NOT Want To Know: She refuses to talk about what happened during the fall of Chernobog, asserting that there are some situations where the truth shouldn't be disclosed. It is for good as Children of Ursus event revealed it was really nasty and PTSD-inducing.

"Ling, you can call me. Have my two troublemaking sisters vexed you any? Hm? You've seen me before? Ah... perhaps so, in a dream."

A relaxed, care-free poet who's related to Nian and Dusk. Though she also has a knack for appearing in people's dreams.

  • The Alcoholic: If her reveal trailer and E2 artwork is of any indication, Ling really enjoys her rice wine. Confirmed in her dialogue as assistant where she admits that wine is one of the things she is afraid to leave behind in the event of her death.
  • The Bard: Her main talent is poetry.
  • Big Damn Heroes: In "Where Vernal Winds Will Never Blow" she took up the job of reinforcing part of Yumen's Catastrophe defenses to free up the Imperial casters to help the other side. If her conversation with Chongyue after was anything to go by, Ling made the Catastrophe battering her side disappear.
  • Breaking Old Trends: Of the Sui siblings, Nian and Dusk are previously illustrated by Huànxiàng Hēi Tù. Ling is instead illustrated and designed by Xiàyě Hóng Míng.
  • Cool Big Sis: Compared to Nian, who wants to drag people into her antics in making movies but is otherwise lazy, and Dusk, who spends her time in her room and doesn't want to be bothered, Ling likes to socialize over a drink with the people in Rhodes Island. The worst thing she does is writes poetry on the walls when she gets drunk. However this doesn't bother the Rhodes Island personnel, with the HR department getting requests for her to extend her stay.
    • Hibiscus also sees her as this, wanting to know Ling gets along with Nian and Dusk so that she can get along with Lava.
    • Ling is also explicitly considered one of the "older" of the Sui siblings, because when they formed from the destruction of the previous Yan god, she was one of the first ones to come up with an answer to the question of "Who am I?" compared with Dusk, who is one of the youngest siblings and still grapples with who she is. Specifically, she's the third oldest as a whole behind Chongyue and the Second Brother.
  • Drunken Master: She only writes her epic poems if there's enough booze.
  • Fragile Speedster: The Tranquility dragons from Ling's S1 attack quickly, and can be made to attack even faster when Ling activates her skill, but have poor durability, though this is somewhat mitigated by the fact that Ling can easily generate more summons with the skill equipped.
  • Fusion Dance: With To Remain Oneself equipped, if Ling places two of her summons adjacent to each other, they will fuse into a larger summon that has higher stats, and can attack and block 4 enemies at once, at the cost of taking up 2 deployment slots.
  • Glass Cannon: The unfused Thunderer dragons from Ling's S3 have the best stats out of the three forms, and can attack 2 enemies at once, but they still aren't very durable until they're fused into a higher form.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: Comes with being an alcoholic, often breaking out into loud singing if she's not writing poetry.
  • Image Song: "Revel in the Real".
  • Lady of Black Magic: She has an elegant and refined air to her in spite of her alcoholic tendencies, and is a powerful mage capable of conjuring incredibly fearsome dragons.
  • Magic Staff: Unlike her sisters who use swords, Ling opts to use a staff as her weapon. The fused Thunderer dragons she summons in her third skill use swords however.
  • Meaningful Name: The Chinese character of her name, 令, means "command" or "order", which not only reflects her role in Yan's military, but being a summoner as well. It is also a type of song or poem. Her E2 art also hides her name in it.
  • Mighty Glacier: The fused form of the Thunderer dragon from Ling's S3 has a fairly slow attack speed, but boasts colossal HP, ATK, and DEF (which can be amplified even further with her skill active) that beats out every other summoned unit in the game by far, and blocks and attacks 4 enemies at once, at the cost of 2 deployment slots.
  • Mythical Motifs: Winding dragons or coiled dragons.
  • Not So Above It All: As doting and sisterly as she is towards her younger sisters, not even Ling is willing to put with Shu, to the point of vanishing from the landship without a word when Shu arrives in Rhodes Island.
  • Odd Name Out: Also unlike her sisters, she is not named after a mythical monster.
  • Onee-sama: In Ling's operator notes, it's reported that both Nian and Dusk mellowed out after Ling decided to stay in Rhodes Island. Hibiscus thinks it's because younger siblings tend to behave themselves around their older ones. Ling thinks they do this out of some odd respect.
  • Pieces of God: Like her siblings, Ling is a shattered piece of the Yan Feranmut named Sui. She is also considered one of the "elder" ones because she was one of the first to define herself.
  • Purple Prose: Her method of speaking is artistic, complex, and somewhat confusing, befitting of a drunk poet.
  • Reality Warper:
    • Stands out even compared to Nian and Dusk, who are also this in their own rights. Although her domain initially appears to be poetry, that's merely her hobby and her true ability is to be "unfettered"; in essence, the ability to choose not to be bound by any restriction that obstructs her, physical or otherwise. This goes to the point of being able to override the powers of her sisters, like easily escaping Nian's traps or Dusk's paintings.
    • In "Invitation to Wine" she resides on a mountain peak in the Shangshu region that simply went missing, with the local's explanation being it was destroyed in a catastrophe since they had nothing else to go off of. When looking for Ling, the locals who are also looking for her are baffled that there's actually an "Eighteenth Peak of Shangshu."
    • In "Where Vernal Winds Will Never Blow", she made part of the Catastrophe battering Yumen's defenses disappear.
    • Her outfit has this on a small scale by showing Ling turning the rain into a sunny sky briefly with one swipe of her brush.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Her being a 'drunken poet' as well as being from Yan refers to Li Bai, a poet who was known for his works about alcohol above every other works. The name of the event she appeared in also refers to one of his poems.
    • Being a former military strategist is one to Xin Qiji, who was also a poet and calligraphist. The name of Ling's abilities reference some of Xin's poems as well.
    • The skill names and what Ling says in her lines are shout outs to various Chinese poetry or classical literature.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: Strictly in comparison to other Summoners, Ling is this, as she can reliably obtain more summons as needed (outside of her S2), and her skills are very powerful and versatile enough to overcome the usual weaknesses of Summoners.
  • Squishy Wizard: The Peripateticism dragons from Ling's S2 can fire off fast and spammable Arts shots that bind enemies, but they are highly fragile and Ling cannot obtain more of them, only retrieve them if they have less than half of their health. Ling herself is also this as a rather fragile Supporter with no other way to protect herself in case she is under fire.
  • The Strategist: Served as one to protect Yan's borders for nearly a century, and now helps out Rhodes Island with her experience.
  • Status Buff: Her second talent So is Writ, an Ode to Wine permanently buffs Ling's ATK when her summons are removed from the battlefield (defeated, retrieved with second skill, or fused with her third skill), stacking up to 5 times.
  • Unconventional Formatting: Those who tried to read Ling's poems tend to get lost in the layers of complexity, but are enamored by it anyway that they dub Ling's style as "Poetry Fu".

Magallan, the Commissioner of Rhine Labs, is glad to welcome new adventures.
Rarity: ★★★★★★
ID: No. 248
Subclass: Summoner
Tags: Slow, DPS, Support
Skills: High-Efficiency Freezing Module, Laser Mining Module, Armed Combat Module
Talents: Support Drone - Soaring Dragon, Optical Refraction Accessories
Affiliation: Rhine Lab - Columbia
Race: Liberi
Birthday: October 17
Height: 160cm

"Rhine Lab Commissioner Magallan discovered a mysterous research ship? Woah, y-you're that doctor from Rhodes Island, Ahem... Would you like to join my expedition? It'll be very interesting!"

An employee of Rhine Lab who specializes in field work and exploration, with a dream to explore the uncharted polar north regions of Terra.

  • A Day in the Limelight: After years of being a relatively untouched character with regards to the Rhine Lab storyline, Expeditioner's Joklumarkar and the preceding events give her some time to shine, as she spearheads the expedition into Sami's mysterious, demon-infested icefields.
  • All-Loving Hero: Magallan is a Nice Girl without a bad bone in her body, offering nothing but wholehearted friendship and trust to even sketchier folk like Ursus soldiers or reclusive Samifjod. More notably, unlike many of her Rhine colleagues and most of the parties looking to venture into Sami, she seeks out exploration and scientific discovery not for any ulterior motive, but for the simple wonder of discovery. Although this naivete has gotten her into trouble sometimes, it's just as much of a boon as her earnestness tends to make people more cooperative with her, to the point where it's implied that the consciousness of Sami itself accepts her wishes and lets her pass on the basis of how pure her curiosity and compassion is.
  • Animal Motifs: Penguins. Magellanic penguins, to be specific, if her codename and the white streaks in her hair are any indication. Her character design also bears subtle penguin hints, such as a generally stout, bell-shaped body, owing to the form of her armor. Her suit is also predominantly white on the front, which visually emulates the penguin's countershading, her mask resembles a penguin's beak, and her arms act as the "flippers".
  • Bold Explorer: Her dream is to research and explore new lands, particularly the Polar North.
  • Boring, but Practical: Her most versatile skill is generally agreed upon to be her S1, as it offers a niche of being able to Slow and Bind multiple parts of the map at once, and in particular once mastered can almost permanently lock down everything in their range for the skill duration. It's available from the get-go and most of the upgrades Magallan gets are, aside from her second talent (which gives her drones temporary camouflage, allowing for much more dangerous placement), relatively replaceable.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Magallan mentions that Ifrit left a book behind, about a gardener taking care of a flower no one would take care of, growing under a tile. She says she left this book behind. This book is Ifrit's token.
  • Ditzy Genius: Magallan is a very competent and respected explorer and researcher, but she's also rather flighty and acts before she thinks when she finds something interesting. Typhon adopts the nickname "birdbrain" for her because of this, and throughout "The Black Forest Wills A Dream" finds herself essentially babysitting her throughout the entire story and trying to (not always successfully) prevent her from getting herself into too much trouble.
  • Drone Deployer: Magallan is also a Summon-type Specialist like her Rhine Lab colleague Mayer. Unlike Mayer, though, her drones are more like portable turrets than animal-shaped explosive charges.
  • Edible Ammunition: For once, this ammunition being "edible" or not depends a lot on your personal palate. Her alternate skin trades live ammunition for Surströmming. And if you've had the misfortune of eating Surströmming before, you'd probably feel bad for her enemies too.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: She wears a single crescent moon-shaped earring on her right ear (more clearly seen in her E2 art); in her Rhodes Kitchen: Shaved-Ice Memories skin she wears a snowflake-shaped earring instead.
  • Glass Cannon: Despite her strong DPS output, Magallan is extremely fragile, especially against physical damage. Without proper healing and aggro management, she won't last long.
  • An Ice Person: Fittingly, considering her penguin Animal Motifsnote  Her first skill, High-Efficiency Freezing Module, has a passive effect of slowing all enemies within her and her drones' range, and an active effect of freezing enemies in place (called bind in-game).
  • Image Song: She has two! “Everything’s Alright” and “Melting White”.
  • Macross Missile Massacre: With her third skill equipped, all of Magallan's drones will fire barrages of micro-missiles that deal AoE damage. Activate the skill to cause even more damage, but be sure to redeploy them afterwards.
  • Magical Camera: No, not one that shoots pictures, but one that shoots energy shots as her standard attack.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: Just like the Magellanic penguins she is based on, Magallan's name is derived from Ferdinand Magellan, an explorer famous for being the first known person to circumnavigate the Earth.
  • Odd Friendship:
    • Her second Trust file reveals that she developed a good relationship with the Emperor of Penguin Logistics that some operators (including those from the aforementioned logistic firm) express envy toward her. The fact that she owns a keychain themed around him on both her character CGs also helps.
    • She tends to befriend people with disagreeable personalities. Not only the aforementioned Emperor, she's also in good relations with the hotblooded pyromaniac Ifrit to the point that they're on nicknames basis, and Asbestos, the self-professed jackass loner, decides to go to Rhodes Island on her recommendation. Later on, she strikes up a similar friendship with the jaded huntress Typhon despite being her polar opposite.
  • Reassigned to Antarctica: It's implied that her assignment to the northern tundra, facing hostile nature and unknown eldritch horrors that live in it, is not only because she loves to explore the unknown frontier. She's increasingly vocal of her theories about a civilization in the north forgotten by history, which often get dismissed by other scholars as mere fairytales. And so, her superior gets rid of her by sending her to the place she wants to explore anyway.
  • Sixth Ranger: Magallan is typically excluded from the Rhine Lab group wherever fanart and discussion are involved, due to her being introduced much later than them, and the fact that she barely interacts with them at all in the story because of her work environment. Interestingly, she literally is the sixth Rhine Lab member in the game in release order.
  • The Team Normal: In Expeditioner's Joklumarkar, out of the team sent to recover Director Maryam in the Infy Icefields, Santalla is an experienced shaman powerful enough to be considered a Snowpriestess candidate, Valarqvin is an ancient Sarkaz mage with esoteric Arts and powers of foresight, and Typhon is a veteran huntress trained by Valarqvin specifically to hunt and suppress Collapsals. Meanwhile, Magallan is just a plucky young woman with a lot of technical and survival know-how, and although her curiosity has gotten them into trouble quite a few times, her spirit and intellect make her just as invaluable.

Talents: Robotter
Affiliation: Rhine Lab - Columbia
Race: Anaty
Birthday: November 20

"I am the Lutra Workshop of Rhine Lab, at your service. Yup, I said 'workshop,' but it's just me. I'm the whole workshop. Am I amazing or what?"

An employee and one-woman workshop of Rhine Lab, she currently works with Rhodes Island as part of its engineering department.

  • Action Bomb: The Detonate and Recycle skill she gets upon reaching Elite 1 allows you to use her Robotters this way, and allows you to recycle any Robotters that have been blown up rather than destroyed in battle.
  • Animal Motifs: Because the Anaty race represents mustelids like ferrets or weasels, Mayer's specific animal motif is the otter, and her robots (as seen in her artworks), also resemble otters.
  • Animal Stereotypes: She's an otter, so she's joyous, laid-back and optimistic, rather clever, and likeable.
  • Berserk Button: Do not interrupt her work, or she will bite you out of reflex. And for the love of everything, do not, under any circumstances, hack into her devices, or she will sic her Meeboos on you.
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: Robot otters. Robotters.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: She... definitely marches to the beat of her own drum. She is tremendously capable, but she is a near-perfect example of the idea of "high intelligence score, low wisdom score":
"At night I'm always full of inspiration... and the urgency to sleep! No... I can't bear it... Where's the pillow... I need to rest..."
"Hm? Why are these cuties called Meeboos? That's because they go 'meeee-boooo' when they boot up. So I named them after that. Fitting, don't you think? Just listen and you'll get it. You press this switch to... WHUAH?! Wrong one! That's the self-destruct button! Oh shoot, run awaaaaaay!"
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Making the most out of Mayer and her Robotters basically requires you to build your team around supporting her instead of the other way around. Conventional strategies basically go flying out the window as you'll be placing much less operators than you normally would, in order to make room for her summons. Placement of these and proper timing of their detonation are key to victory, and it's practically a given that Mayer be promoted to Elite 2 and her second skill Mastered, which will cost you a pretty penny. Once you've gotten her upgrades and mechanics down hat, however, Mayer can easily solo certain high-difficulty maps and make complete mockery out of the later story chapters.
  • Forgets to Eat: She's been known to skip meals in order to get more work done, something which worries Magallan. In Mayer's Operator Record, Magallan brings her some lunch from the cafeteria while she's cooped up in her workshop and asks her Meeboos to make sure she eats it before she gets back to work.
  • Genki Girl: Chiwa Saitō voices her with a Genki Power™ you can feel in your bones.
  • Herd-Hitting Attack: Using Detonate and Recycle will detonate all the summoned Robotters, and anyone caught in the blast is stunned. It is for this reason that she's got the "Crowd Control" tag attached to her.
  • Little Bit Beastly: It's actually not immediately obvious, but she herself is an otter-person (and not just an otter-building person); she's got the tail of a particularly long-furred eurasian otter, and may even be an (extinct-in-reality) Japanese otter. She is, notably, one of only two "Anaty" to be in the game at launch (the other being Shirayuki). Also, the name of her workshop, Lutra, is a genus of otters.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Barring Magallan, she's the only one who's actually still working for Rhine Lab, as she's unaware of the Noodle Incident that made Saria, Ifrit, Ptilopsis and Silence leave. She basically knows as much about the incident as Rhodes Island does.
    • In the Mansfield Break event, Silence didn't originally tell her why she broke Mountain out of jail, either. And it's implied the Rhine Lab Director of the Energy Department was making Mayer work for his nefarious projects as well without telling Mayer why. Mayer doesn't mind the secrecy though. She left Rhine Labs for Rhodes Island not because of being locked out of the loop, but because the loop kept her from having enough time for her own projects.
  • Man Bites Man: She bites people who try and get between her and her work, as poor Closure found out the hard way when she tried to prank her.
  • Mundane Utility: She uses one of her Meeboos as a mobile workbench.
  • Mook Maker: As a Summon-type Supporter, this is her playstyle in general, and much of it revolves around her use of the Robotters. Her special talent is even called Robotter, and allows her to summon more of them as she is promoted.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: Her name is derived from Maria Goeppert Mayer, the second woman to win the Nobel prize for her work on nuclear science.
  • Pokémon Speak: Inverted. She named her robotic pets as "Meeboos" after the "meeeee-booooo" sound effect that they emit upon booting up.
  • Smart People Build Robots: Otter robots. Dozens of otter robots. So many that they practically spill out of her workshop room on Rhodes Island.
