Ask the Tropers:
resolved Vandal Western Animation
Please report Morty 336 Steve 909. They've vandalized the Ollie's Pack and Harvey Street Kids character pages with inappropriate and inaccurate info.
resolved The Ugly Barnacle Western Animation
Since The Ugly Barnacle page is based on a joke from SpongeBob SquarePants, should it be in the Just for Fun namespace?
resolved Inconsistent examples Western Animation
I'm concerned about some of the edits on Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return by Sovs. Some examples are written correctly, while others have words and trope names written in all lowercase, insufficient context, and a few spelling and grammar issues. What is the best way to handle this?
Edited by DrNoPumaresolved Edit War Western Animation
~Acidic Rafter 2 is edit warring on a Total Drama character page and arguing in edit reasons despite another person citing a resolved ATT thread as explanation for their edits. Based on their comments in the edit reason, it seems like they intend to disregard the decision that was made in the previous thread.
resolved Reporting Plush2012321 Western Animation
I would like to report a user known as Plush2012321. This user is vandalizing the Rugrats character page and the The Rugrats Movie page by adding fanfiction-based content to them. For the former page, Plush2012321 keeps adding folders for animals that weren't in the movie, and for the latter, Plush2012321 keeps referring to the Wolf as a "Vasto Wolf" and the forest the babies get lost in as "Skull Territory". I've reverted the edits to the latter page, but someone else had to revert this Plush2012321 to the former page. That wasn't enough, as Plush2012321 re-added the fanfiction-based content. I'd like to have Plush2012321 reported as soon as possible to ensure that this vandalism doesn't continue.
(By the way, I hadn't meant to post this twice. When I clicked the save button, it gave me two copies.)
Edited by FlyingDuckManGenesisresolved Questionable Edit removal from Recap for Rick and Morty Western Animation
On December 18th, 2022, I added a "The Reason You Suck" Speech entry for the Rick and Morty episode "Ricktional Mortpoons Rickmas Mortcation".
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: When Rick tries to leave after making the driller once Morty makes clear he doesn't want Rick coming with him to get the Lightsaber, Morty gets pissed at the idea Rick is acting like Morty betrayed him and not the other way around. Rick, thoroughly done with listening to Morty and wanting to just go back to hunting down Rick Prime, delivers a quick but succinct tear down of Morty, both for the events of the last episode, and his general treatment of Rick overall the last few seasons, with Morty treating him like shit despite Rick bothering to open up to him. Morty himself can only wince and look upset while he's listening up until Curtis reassures him he won't kill his family.
Rick: You wanna know why I replaced myself in the beginning of that stupid Knights of the Sun thing? I said don't take the fucking sword and you were like "whatever" like I'm our neighbor Gene or David Arquette or something. You called me boring. I've become dog shit to you. That's what happens when you let people in and they stop respecting you, they touch your shit, they screw things up, they kill your fucking family. Go ahead. Trust [Curtis]. You're going to learn the same fucking thing.
- 1. It's not presented as the way the edit reason states, namely since Rick had been keeping Morty out of his hunt for Rick Prime rather than forcing him to help, and Morty was acting like Rick was entirely at fault for not being honest. While an argument can be made for Unintentionally Unsympathetic, the fact of the matter is that it's not presented in the manner the edit reason suggests.
- 2. "The Reason You Suck" Speech is not a YMMV trope, meaning even if Mantyf does not see it as a speech but more a rant from an abuser, the trope itself is what matters. So if the entry is an actual case of "The Reason You Suck" Speech as presented in the show itself, removing it based on an interpretation feels like a mistake.
resolved TearJerker on Spongebob Western Animation
TearJerker.Sponge Bob Square Pants currently has a meta section, when Tear Jerker is No Real Life Examples, Please!. I previously removed real life examples from the page, but these seem to be added by different people than the original posts.
resolved I'm not sure about these edits. Western Animation
So on Star Wars: The Clone Wars Tempest Fury has added some edits I'm not sure about. They look like they're trying to make the Jedi Council & Order look better retroactively. Can I get a vote on whether to keep these edits or cut them?
resolved Edit war over What Do You Mean, It's For Kids? Western Animation
On YMMV.The Loud House, gbstout0607 is edit warring over a What Do You Mean, It's for Kids? entry:
- gbstout0607 adds the example:
* What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: Aside from the Demographically Inappropriate Humour, there have been several episodes that have instances where someone could’ve died, especially in "The Loud House Movie."
- jandn2014 removes the example.
- gbstout0607 adds a reworded version of the previous example they added:
* What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: Although it’s aimed at kids, there have been several episodes that have instances where someone could’ve died, especially in "The Loud House Movie."
I've sent "misuse" notifiers to gbstout0607.
Edited by ChillyBeanBAMresolved Questionable sentence. Western Animation
In Characters.Adventure Time Multiverse, troper Kuroikiba 7 added this entry on Hunter's page (suspect sentence is bolded)
- Vocal Dissonance: In contrast to his overall hunkish looks and build, he has a rather feminine voice. This is due to his voice actor, Vico Ortiz, being a biologically female non-binary person.
This very wrong on so many levels and feel very transphobic by stating a trans person's assigned gender at birth.
There are few issues with their edit (like trope slashing) but this one is massive red flag to me.
resolved Regarding "My Little Pony: Rainbow Roadtrip" in Banned In China page Western Animation
Just went into Banned in China page and "My Little Pony: Rainbow Roadtrip" is on the page again for the third time.
- Hasbro’s decision to renew their contract with Discovery Family through 2025 has resulted in a tantamount ban on My Little Pony: Rainbow Roadtrip in many countries such as Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Norway, Switzerland, and Turkey, thus preventing the film from getting dubs in any of the languages spoken in those regions.
It was written on Teen Titans Go! example on the page. It was written by a troper named JHC1990. However, as there's no objectable content found in the MLP film, and I think that Hasbro's decision to renew their contract with Discovery Family through 2025 is not a reason for a tantamount ban on some European countries, and I don't think it's a tantamount ban. I think the example should be on No Export for You instead. What did you guys think?
resolvedTrolling in a WMG page? Western Animation
I found the WMG page for Mufasa: The Lion King and the entries there seem quite unserious to the point of feeling like trolling.
resolved Edit war on Characters/TotalDrama Western Animation
On Dec 9th, Sucks To Be Me added this entry to the page, which looks to be a misuse of Big Bad Ensemble as that trope can't be inverted.
It was removed a few hours later with edit reasons citing misuse.
But on Dec 10th Sucks To Be Me added it back with no edit reasons given.
Edited by Snowy66resolved Repeated speculation on character's voice actor Western Animation
This edit is the second time that someone (a different person from last time, so it's not edit warring) added Jeannie Elias as the voice actress for the "Woman from Commercial" on Characters. The Super Mario Bros. Movie. While it's certainly possible, it's only speculation as far as I know (see God Never Said That on the Trivia page) and shouldn't be stated as fact. But since I removed it last time, I cannot remove it again without edit warring.
Should something be done to prevent this from being re-added, at least until there's official confirmation? For example, a commented-out notice in the character folder?
resolved Does Total Drama need a short term cleanup? Western Animation
I notice the Total Drama pages often get packed up with shoehorns (so much misuse of counterpart tropes), rumors-as-fact (i.e. "X was intended to be the main antagonist but it got cut short"), and generally dubious info. I'd like some help cleaning it up cuz I want more input from other fans beyond my social circle and personal experience.
As much as I worry about my shifting interests, I do think having a short term cleanup would be beneficial because there's so many character subpages.
resolved Regarding My Little Pony: Rainbow Roadtrip Western Animation
Somebody written an example about My Little Pony: Rainbow Roadtrip is banned in some Western European countries, such as France, Germany and Italy on Banned in China page, but I checked for proof online and found nothing. I think that the special wasn't banned, just weren't aired on those countries (as of 2023). It should be on No Export for You instead. Here's my example for the page:
- For an unknown reason, My Little Pony: Rainbow Roadtrip wasn't aired in some western European countries, such as France, Germany and Italy.
For the Trivia page for Rainbow Roadtrip page:
- No Export for You: For an unknown reason, the special wasn't aired in some western European countries, such as France, Germany and Italy.
What did you guys think?
resolved Spoiler-y episode descriptions on What…? (2021) Western Animation
So if you look at the recap page of What If…? (2021), there’s descriptions for the divergence points of each episode. I think it’s too spoilery, especially Season 1, Episode 3 as the divergence point wasn't revealed until late into the episode. Should we remove these descriptions or not?
resolved recap index problem Western Animation
I have been trying to fix the indexing problem regarding the recap pages for The Emperor's New School. No matter what I do though, the recap doesn't show up on the index list for the episodes, despite the index detail being on the page. It seems to only be happening for this recap too for some reason. What could be going wrong?
resolved No Title Western Animation
MagicallyMe keeps on removing a certain example on the Protagonist-Centered Morality page for the show My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. I really don't want to start an edit war, so I came her first.
Here's the example that keeps getting deleted
- In "Boast Busters" Rainbow Dash, Rarity and Applejack take issue with Trixie's magic show and boasting, despite all three doing plenty of boasting themselves and begin heckling her for little if any reason. By the end of the episode Trixie's home and possessions are destroyed by an Ursa Minor and the main culprits of the bear being brought there, Snips and Snails, get mustaches as 'punishment'. While Twilight is the one to (indirect) humiliate her, Twilight's friends were practically gloating at the ruination of someone else's livelihood and home for behavior less problematic they themselves have and would do.
Hello! So I recently posted this in the "Is this an Example?" thread, and haven't really got replies, though they have been leaning to my side.
I found something that screams shoehorning from a biased source.
From the YMMV page of The Owl House:
Two huge problems with this. First, it's very clearly overly hostile and biased against the show judging by it's language, and attempting to whitewash Belos by suggesting he has a point. Secondly, both examples are taken completely out of context to form a rhetorical strawman. The first one isn't an example because she wasn't born with any special destiny. She only got the Titan's approval due to being her kind and loving self, especially to his son. The second is just plainly absurd. It's attempting to play moral judgement on some of the people who have suffered the most under the genocidal psychopath, when he had just made his second attempt to commit genocide against their species.
I took the liberty of removing the example from the YMMV page. Now that would be fine on it's own, even if I heavily disagree with it... If it weren't for this entry literally being a copy paste of something that was posted on the main page of the show which the troper Gamermaster removed. The weird part is that it was copy pasted onto the YMMV page by an entirely different user, and the first user has a total of two edits on their entire edit history, both of which are super hostile to modern Disney properties. Later on the person who posted it on the main Owl House page posted it right back on the YMMV page exactly as is without going to the "Is this an Example?" thread, and added further shoehorning. I removed those too... but now I am wondering if this is some sort of sockpuppeting situation due to the reasons listed above. At the very least it could warp into an Edit War.
