resolved Victoria vandalism Literature
I'm on a self-imposed hiatus due to reasons, but this should be brought to the mods' attention.
Walker 45 has edited Literature.Victoria, calling it "a deranged piece of Nazi propaganda" and the like. They have also made forum posts expressing overwhelmingly negative views towards the work and saying they will remove all mentions of it from the wiki.
Requesting mod revert of Victoria.
resolved Close to being an edit war? Literature
JaidebeccaShipper removed the word "transphobic" from this entry:
- Audience-Alienating Premise: The book tells the story of a little boy named Johnny who loves to role-play as different animals and objects. One day, he decides that he wants to be a walrus. This (somehow) causes everyone to treat him as if he actually wants to become a walrus, culminating in a doctor suggesting that Johnny eat worms and have his limbs cut off in an allegory for hormone therapy and sex reassignment surgery — a metaphor that would only be understood by the transphobic adults in Walsh's audience who would purchase it, despite the book being illustrated and ostensibly presented as a children's book. Walsh boasted that it was the best-selling book in Amazon's LGBTQ+ category, only for Amazon to recategorize it to Political and Social Commentary and for Target to completely remove it from its online storefront.
With the edit reason: " Arguing against an ideology is not transphobic, just like not following a religion doesn't mean you hate people of that religion."
Moroaica added "transphobic" back to the entry with the edit reason: "trans medication isn't 'ideology' and opposition to that is transphobic."
I'm not sure what do here. But my observation is that they're both troping with an agenda (but hey, correct me if that observation is wrong).
On a related note, Moroaica removed this entry:
- Narm Charm: The Zookeeper Author Avatar looking like Walsh is something that fans of the book consistently praise.
Their edit reason for removing it was: "This book has no actual 'fans'"
As much as I disagree with this book's message, this isn't true. The book certainly does have fans and those who agree with Walsh's message. It feels like Moroaica is being disingenuous here and biased.
Edited by AudioSpeaks2resolved Recreate a light novel? Literature
I was checking the works on the literature and light novel indexes, and found out a red link called Idol Defense Force Hummingbird. I checked what was the reason for deleting it, and it says movie007: getting rid of Light Novel namespace...
But we still have that namespace... so I doubt it was just for that. The troper (movie007) hasnt been active since April 2017, so I dont think he would answer a message if I send one.
So, it is safe to create again the page for the light novel, or not?
Sorry if my english is broken, it isnt my first languaje.
resolved Taking You With Me for Lord Kaan ? Literature
In https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/DarthBane page, more specifically, the Taking You with Me in Kaan's folder. Kaan was specifically manipulated into using the Thought Bomb to destroy the Jedi and he wrongly believes he would survive it with his followers (said in the book and in his wookiepedia page: https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Skere_Kaan ).
While this act effectively kills him, his followers and the Jedi near it, I don't think the Taking You with Me trope should qualify since it is not his intention. I think it is more of a Desperation Attack or a Last Ditch Move than anything else.
What do you think ?
Edited by CybranLordresolved Which name to use for this character Literature
In The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System: Ren Zha Fanpai Zijiu Xitong, the protagonist, originally named Shen Yuan, transmigrates into a character named Shen Qingqiu, and from then on is referred to as Shen Qingqiu, including in his own thoughts. So in the story, he's called Shen Qingqiu like 99% of the time. I've noticed that the article for The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System: Ren Zha Fanpai Zijiu Xitong uses both names, but Shen Yuan more often than Shen Qingqiu. I feel like it would be better to use Shen Qingqiu by default and only use Shen Yuan when referring to his past life as the novel does. Would it be okay for me to make these changes?
resolved Ellen and Otis: Gone Horribly Wrong Literature
On the page for Ellen and Otis, the example for Gone Horribly Wrong reads as follows:
However, she doesn't get in trouble for taking the beet without permission, she isn't shown being written up, and she does get to clap erasers during recess, which is why she brought the beet to school in the first place. So, does this really count as an example of GHW, or is it some other trope?
resolved Cut a page with mostly poorly written examples? Literature
I was doing a wick check for If You Call Before Midnight Tonight and found this work page for a children's book. It's filled with zero-context and poorly written examples (including linking a useful note as a trope example on a work page which isn't allowed). I see only two passably written examples on the page. Should we just cut this page?
ADDENDUM: Also, *batteries not included isn't on the Useful Notes page.
Edited by supernintendo128resolved American Girl - Ban Evader Literature
It looks like a recent editor, Peachy2023, was found to be a ban evader for another account and their edits were reverted on multiple pages they added to. However, I edited two American Girl character pages they added to to remove or correct some of these edits, thinking it was a new editor making the same mistakes: the Historical Character Page at American Girls Collection - Historical Characters and Girls of the Year page at American Girls Collection - Girls Of The Year. Does someone else need to come in and revert these edits from the evader, or can I remove the other remaining examples myself?
(edit because the name made a red link and linking the affected pages. )
Edited by Nethiliaresolved Conflict of edits occuring on American Girl (especially Character articles) Literature
I'm working on cleaning up the somewhat neglected American Girl articles here on TV Tropes, having recently moved the very long character pages to separate pages and writing the pages to fit the expectations here. I'm now removing a lot of empty examples and several tropes that don't fit the characters (and are better moved to the main article.) I've hit a wall with the Historical Character page where multiple edits I've made in good faith are being deleted, removed, and zero context examples being added repeatedly. What should I do next? I don't want to spark an edit war, but I'm getting frustrated. Thanks in advance!
resolved Red link removal Literature
Is there any reason why red link for The World Rose was removed from Overshadowed by Controversy: Literature page? If not, should it be restored (as far as I know, deleting those is frowned upon)? On related note, this page has no link either, but it was this way before I checked.
As far as I know, we normally encourage keeping red links for work and creator pages, to make creating and crosswicking those easier... unless there's a reason why such works/creators wouldn't be allowed to have a page (I know nothing about The World Rose beyond what's written on those pages, so I don't know whether those are forbidden from having work pages, or not; sorry if I missed an elephant in the room and the reason is listed somewhere on the pages).
Edited by Aazkaalresolved Media category question Literature
I am aware that Web Serial Novels go under the Literature category, not Web Original, but does the same apply to all online literature? For example, say you've got a collection of short stories with no shared plot but a common setting or narrative theme — that wouldn't be a serial novel, but would it still be considered to go under Literature?
resolved Animorphs FranchiseOriginalSin Literature
I noticed on the 'related' page for Franchise Original Sin that a link to the page is somewhere on the Animorphs YMMV page, but I can't seem to find said link anywhere (and believe me, I've tried). Is there anyone who can figure out where on that page said link is so I can properly determine as to whether the link is actually present in a way that's appropriate for the matter?
Edited by SimbafanA1resolved Formatting and Name Space for Chaos Timeline Literature
Hi, I was noticed that page Chaos Timeline has its tropes split into various categories such as Alternate History Tropes, General Tropes, Character Tropes, etc which is not something I've seen before and was wondering if this is something that should be changed to the more standard list of all tropes in one list?
Also, and I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question, but I noticed that the work is in the Literature namespace, but appears to be a timeline on Alternate History.com, which takes the form of a series of forum posts, and I've noticed that most works of this variety are in the Web Original namespace. Should this work also be in the Web Original namespace?
resolved Creating a page for an unofficial duology? Literature
I want to create a page(s) for two books I really enjoy, Wolf Winter and In the Month of the Midnight Sun, both by Cecilia Ekbäck. The two books both take place in the exact same setting (Blackasen Mountain) and cover similar themes, but other than that, share nothing with each other: they take place in completely different time periods with completely different casts with no callbacks whatsoever.
Given this, could they be considered a "series" (neither the publisher nor the author has ever described them as such as far as I have discovered) and share a Main page, or would they require two different ones?
If it is the former, what would I call it? Just "Wolf Winter" given it came first?
resolved Are name associate tropes a thing? Literature
In writing/character building, are there tropes associated with names?
For example, the name ‘Brock’ or ‘Chad’ could be associated with the stereotypical rich, frat boy characters. While “Jake” or ‘John’ with the big tough guy types ...i.e. ‘ big Jake’ / ‘big John’. ‘Biff’ & ‘Buffy’ with the affluent rich of the Californian Valley. If this is a thing, is there a list I can glean from?
resolved Trying to make my first page Literature
I'm trying to make a page for a work I like, but I don't get a lot of opportunities to work on it each day. Is it bad if I leave a page with no tropes or otherwise lacking for a period of time?
resolved Moving character to a different page Literature
I'd like to move Shen Jiu's character profile from Characters. The Scum Villains Self Saving System Demon Realm And Other Characters over to Characters. The Scum Villains Self Saving System Four Main Sects. Currently he's just under Other Characters, but I think he should really be under the Qing Jing Peak section as he was literally the leader of said peak before his (presumed) death, at which point he exits the story. (I'm explaining this to clarify that there are no conflicting affiliations or anything so I don't know why he's been placed under Other Characters.) Am I allowed to go ahead and move him?
Edited by Zaperexresolved Validity of an example Literature
Wasn't sure where to put this, didn't seem like it belonged in "Is this an Example". I was adding something to ThenLetMeBeEvil.Literature and happened to find this:
- Fagin in Oliver Twist is such an anti-Semitic caricature that Dickens himself grew ashamed at the remonstrations of several Jewish acquaintances, mended his beliefs, and wrote much more sympathetic Jewish characters in the future. However, since Oliver Twist was so popular and has so frequently been adapted, the adapters have had to deal with the Unfortunate Implications somehow. Some of them have used this, depicting Fagin's villainy less as a stereotype and more as an understandable response to the grinding poverty and degradation he would have suffered due to the relentless classism and anti-Semitism in England in the period.
The whole example is basically complaining about Fagin being a Greedy Jew stereotype, which, fair enough! But the example
- doesn't even get to illustrating the trope until halfway through.
- isn't actually an example for the linked source material but rather about unnamed adaptations.
- is violating Examples Are Not General by not specifying any adaptations in particular.
So I think this should probably be cut. Agreed?

Troper Axe 23 has been busy re-adding tropes to Literature/Victoria page that were removed in the cleanup thread without going through the cleanup thread first. What should be done about that?
I tried to message them, but they never replied.
Cleanup thread here: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=16063931900A23789400&page=8
Now, I know that normally it is the opposite rule here, if you see a trope on a page (say Knight in Shining Armor ) mentioning a work, you should go to the work page and add an example to it. That is normal crosswicking. The issue here is that there was a clean-up of the work page but wick cleaning of the other pages was never completed (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=16063931900A23789400&page=7#comment-161 ) after sandbox swap.
You can recognize the cleaned up wicks on the other pages because they point to Literature/Victoria instead of towards Victoria: A Novel of 4th Generation War and they should be deleted and not crosswicked back to the main work page.
