Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread

openSuper Smash Bros WMG characters
Is there a rule on how far-fetched a WMG can be ? The ''Super Smash Bros'' Character prediction WMG has some rather non-sensical ones. It includes for example the Hell Valley Sky Tree which is a mere background element from Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Magikarp. Should there be a limit or is this fine because WMG is mostly for fun ?
Edited by jOSEFdelavilleopenAlphabetical order in tropes' pages
I know that in a work's page the tropes need to be in alphabetical order, but what about in tropes' pages? The works need to be in alphabetical order in them? I see a bunch of pages organized in alphabetical order but also a bunch who aren't, so, is it really necessary? The editing tips say nothing about that.
openNightmare Cinema Film
So the film "Nightmare Cinema" has a YMMV page:
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/YMMV/NightmareCinema
but no main page. The YMMV page has only one entry (for Complete Monster). Can the page be cut?
openRidiculous Unpublished Works Pages
Is there any sort of rule against making pages for Unpublished Works that are absolutely ridiculous (i.e. Would it be bad to have a page that would make a reader think "Whoever made this has to be drunk or high" or have a premise (or even a title) that would be considered "retarded"?
openFanfic Recommendation Title Western Animation
I added a Fanfic Rec to the Legend of Korra Crossover page, but the link for the title on the first line shows as [1]. As far as I can see, I used the same format as the other recommendations. How can I get the post to show the full title?
Edited by CuranDuncanopenCannot Edit in TLP
Hey guys. For some drafts I created in TLP, when I try to edit them, the text box containing my draft's content stretches down below the gray box at the bottom of every Tv Tropes page and covers the button that would let me submit my changes. Anyone else experiencing this problem and know how to fix it?
openAuthors Saving Throw too soon 2?
I removed Author's Saving Throw from YMMV.Halo Infinite as prior ATT stated pre-release doesn't count. It was added back commented out citing "Bad Faith Edit."
Adding tropes commented out is last I checked sneaking in tropes inappropriately before due waiting period. Should I re-remove?
And is there any justification for Halo Infinite having a page despite lacking a release day? I recall was created right before we made that a requirement.
openNamesTheSame guidelines?
Does Names The Same have any sort of guidelines or requirements for an entry? I ask because I often see it used as in an extremely arbitrary manner, to connect utterly random and unrelated things that happen to share very commonplace or generic names, like "Ghost" or "Citadel". The most egregious I've seen (and the one that has always stood out the most, and finally prompted me to ask this) is this particularly long one on Trivia.Fallout, which has been bugging me for years:
- Names The Same:
- The Great War is the 2-hour long nuclear war which destroyed civilization in October of 2077. There is also the war between the Olympians and the Titans. And what World War I was called before there was a second one. Both Kratos and Wonder Woman waged their own Great Wars in their respective games.
- The name of the military base which houses the FEV is called Mariposa. Lisa uses it as her Lucha Libre alias.
- ED-E is the Enclave Eyebot who hooks up with The Courier. Edi.E is the crooked cop from Metro City. And EDI is also a robot buddy but in a completely different future.
- Boomers are the tribe who originated from Vault 34 and have a habit of blowing shit up with heavy artillery. The plural version could either be a group of locusts who also like to blow shit up, or a fat zombie who can call other zombies.
- The Citadel is the ruins of The Pentagon which serves as the headquarters of the Capital Wasteland Brotherhood of Steel. There's also the the Combine facility and the seat of the Council.
- The Pitt is what used to be the city of Pittsburgh. The Pit is a stage in Mortal Kombat in which you can knock the opponent onto a bed of spikes, the hard stone floor, or a mass of spinning blades. This Pit is a winged warrior gunning for Medusa.
- Ghost is a Ranger stationed at the Mojave Outpost. Jon Snow's pet direwolf shares the name, and drug lord James St. Patrick claims it as a nickname.
- The Fiends are a group of chem-addicted Raiders in the Mojave Wasteland. We also have monsters who are unsent humans.
- The King is the leader of a gang of Elvis impersonators in Freeside. Duke Nukem, Sagat, and Ash Williams share the nickname.
openCommented-out notes on Dream. Web Original
Dream has a lot of commented-out notes at the top of the page. While commented-out notes are usually related to cleanups and image picking, these ones are not. For ease of access:
%%Thanks to all the people that contributed to LetsPlay.Dream! %% List of contributors here: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/editors.php?entry=LetsPlay.Dream
%% Feel free to add yourself to this list
(List of some people who contributed to the page, currently at 13 editors)
%% THINGS THAT NEED TO BE WORKED ON: %% More examples (let's get to a thousand!)
%% ''[[LetsPlay/{{Dream}} Dream's]]'' %% ''LetsPlay/{{Dream}}:''
%% The two lines above are for easy copy and pasting when crosswicking
The commented-out notes have been discussed by two people at the page's discussion page, but I feel like some other opinions are needed. Are these commented-out notes OK?
openMistakenly cut page Literature
As I was browsing the Light Novels page, I saw that Idol Defense Force Hummingbird had been cut with the reason "movie007: getting rid of Light Novel namespace..." While some tropers suggested getting rid of the LightNovel/ namespace, there was never any consensus to do so, and even if there was pages would be moved to Literature/, not cut outright. I believe the page should be restored; I'm surprised that cut was even accepted.
openI made a mistake
I was having trouble with the video uploader and accidentally submitted an example on the wrong trope page ([Trope Namer]). Just delete it.
openChanging the title of a Light Novel Anime
So, the Web/Light Novel series Do You Think Someone Like You Can Defeat The Demon King got a page in this site recently, and there are a few issues with the name it goes by here. First, it's not the actual title. That would be the incredibly Long Title that is written (in Japanese with a translation) in the description of the series. "Do You Think Someone Like You Can Defeat The Demon King" is just the shortened version of the original title the fan-translation of the Web Novel came up with. Second, the novel has already been released officially in English with a Completely Different Title: “ROLL OVER AND DIE: I Will Fight for an Ordinary Life with My Love and Cursed Sword!” As far as I am aware, this site favors the use of the official English title for foreign works. Is this still true even if the title is completely different? And in that case, this page needs to be renamed, right?
openDecade renames
Inspired from this query from the thread I made, should we rename the decade tropes (The '40s, The '50s, The '60s, The '70s, The '80s, and The '90s)? Assuming that this wiki would keep running by 2100, should we rename them to something clearer where the decade was situated in that century? (I've read a fashion book from the 1920s where they referred their '70s as the 1870s) Or should we rename this decade by zeitgeist like The Swinging Sixties for The '60s?

Unalaq has already been added as a Generic Doomsday Villain 4 times even though he did not qualify in the first place before being removed and I checked the history and it seems that 3 out of 4 attempts at adding him have came from Joe Merl
Edited by Loekman3openHard split for Mighty Ducks cartoon and movies? Western Animation
There's a existing disambiguation page here, but the two works are different enough that they probably shouldn't be sharing subpages. Besides that, the proper title of the cartoon is Mighty Ducks: The Animated Series, so it would be easy enough to make a page under that title in Western Animation and moving the cartoon's tropes there.
openTroper with indentation issues
lorgskyegon has issues with indentation. I sent a notifier months ago, but I got no response and the haven't improved.
Here's their latest violation:

openHouse wiki
On the https://house.fandom.com/wiki/James_Wilson the house wiki copied our trope character page for wilson verbatim in one of their sections. This is a problem right? Our creative commons license is BY-NC-SA which means you can't use it for commercial purposes. Whereas theirs is BY-SA, and they have ads. So that's not allowed, right?
openProblematic Review Web Original
Kelekona left a review for Protectors of the Plot Continuum, which is basically them importing personal drama from their interactions with the authors and not actually reviewing the work itself.
I flagged the review for drama importation, and Very Melon left a couple comments criticizing the review for that. Kelekona then decided to make a YMMV page for them, accusing them of being "pro-bullying". So now, this has descended into personal attacks against other users on the site.
