Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread

Ask the Tropers:
openWhich section? Literature
I'm working on a page on TLP, and someone posted the following example:
- In the nonfiction book The Other Wes Moore, author Wes Moore describes how despite growing up in a tough Baltimore neighborhood and having a difficult childhood he eventually became a Rhodes scholar and successful businessman. When he was in his twenties he learned of another man named Wes Moore who had grown up blocks from him. That Wes Moore grew up to become a criminal and was serving a life sentence for murder. The book examines how the two started from the same place and ended up so different.
While it's overall very well constructed and I consider it legit, the fact remains it's a nonfiction book. Does it go in the Literature section or the real life section?
openDid I edit war?
I made a change to an entry on Full-Potential Upgrade due to an edit changing the nature of the entry to be about something more specific than intended. (Short version, a Harry Potter entry about wands in general being changed to one wand in particular).
The reason I know this changes the entry, however, is because I'm the one who originally put it there. I later realized that would technically make mine edit #3, but the original entry was just that, one of the original entries of the page when it was first launched ages ago.
I did make a point of keeping the info about the specific wand, but I'm concerned about whether I might have edit warred without fully realizing it.

openDoes image changes necessarily be discussed on Image Pickin'?
I noticed some page / character images in a work are from fanart, and I will propose changing them to something from an official source. But does that need to be discussed on Image Pickin'? Or the work page discussion suffice?
openWeird grammar changes Film
The user alalahoward99 has been changing words around on the Breakaway Pop Hit pages to things that don't really make any grammatical sense. (For instance, the phrase "tacked onto the soundtrack" was changed to "aimed onto the soundtrack", "turgid" was changed to "tumid", "god" to "inmortal" (sic) and some other words were changed to other synonyms for no real reason). They've also removed several links to pages like Alanis Morissette. None of their edits have edit reasons, and I've noticed similar issues with their other edits. On the main Breakaway Pop Hit page, they've changed every instance of "add" to "count", even when it doesn't make sense to do so. I've fixed some of the changes on the Live Action Film subpage, but some of the other pages in their edit history may need to be looked at too.
Edited by thelivingtoadopen Sequel Gap mass wiping against consensus - mod revert request
jharrison3051 has started to delete examples of Sequel Gap that are shorter than 10 years without getting any consensus. Harrison only posted on the discussion page once stating that a sequel gap should be 10 years to be significant before he started his deletions. He cites absolutely no discussions in his edit reason either.
The trope has been for a long time defined as needing a minimum of 5 years, not 10.
Edited by Albert3105openHomoerotica in Dead to Rights Videogame
Someone deleted my example of some HoYay type stuff from the first [[Dead to Rights]] that I had put in the YMMV section. I'm going to put these forward what I had originally posted to see if I can or should put them back up and how I can list them better if you think I have a valid argument. Please note that I wrote the entry on Camp that has since been abridged. But from what all I've read on the subject of Camp is that there usually is a touch of the gay about it. Indeed, it is a gay way of looking at things, so I maybe the only one who sees this.
Here are my arguments
1) When Jack takes a bad guy as a human shield, it appears he's humping the man.
2) Sickle, the evil warden of the prison Jack ends up in during level three, seems a little too thrilled at the thought of executing Jack.
3) Jack comes across a prisoner in a cell named Timmy. Timmy says of another inmate named Mad Dog: "Man, Mad Dog is going to tear me up tonight! Hallelujah!"
4) Jack describes one of the bad guys, Patch, as "dresses kind of frilly". He's also one of two villains that is able to lay Jack out outside of battle. For Patch, it's with gold plated Luger. Also, his boss fight involves him popping up from the backseat of a limo and firing missiles from a rocket launcher..
5) After offing Augie Blatz, Patch places his gold Luger on Blatz's lap, angled in a suggestive manner.
6) The second villain that takes down Jack, Rafshoon Diggs, does so by going for Jack's balls.
7) What is the first name of the main bad guy Jack is after? Dick.
8) Three levels in the game are set in a Disco, a Prison, and a seedy waterfront harbor, all of which have had connotations associated in fiction with homosexual activity.
9) At least three of the villains (Fahook, Hennessy, and a minor boss called Antorcha all involve attacks that make them "flaming". Fahook even has his shirt off during his boss battle, showing off his ripped body while Hennessy runs around in a rather tight tank top and showing off his muscular arms while jets of fire and steam erupt all around him and Jack.
10) The boss fight against Mayor Pinnacle involves Jack climbing onto the big man's back and ''taking his breath away". Also, one of the insults Pinnacle can throw at Jack is calling him a "sissy fairy".
11) The cutscene leading into the second to last level involves Jack entering through the backside of a plane, guns blazing.
I leave this to you, the Troper Jury, to decide.
Edited by bmoore4026openIs sending site-wide notifiers possible (or even a good idea)?
Probably not for ordinary tropers, but do mods have the ability to send every active-within-the-last-x-time-period the same announcement/notifier?
Only a handful of tropers participate in TRS discussions, so something's decided on a popular page, most people don't notice the change until they come across cleanup edit history or reread the page or receive a notifier about their misuse. It keeps collecting wicks even as cleanup is ongoing. So by "notifier", I mean a PM to bring the thing to people's attention: "Announcement: TRS decision is that Blah Yadda Yadda is now a redirect. Or it is now IUEO. Or it is definition-only. Whatever. Please do not list it on blah blah blah".
Even if it isn't possible, this is not a wishlist query because I'm spitballing here. Good idea/bad idea?

Trivia pages are only for examples of, for lack of a better term, trivia tropes, correct?
open"Voiced by: note" looks weird

openabout morality tropes
i noticed that many tropes here involve judging the morality of the characters and aren't even considered ymmv tropes...so considering that what is good for me migth be evil for you by what standard do you judge the morality of the characters? are users just allowed to use whatever standard they want?

Edited by nombretomadoopenDiscussion about aversions
Is there a thread in Trope Talk or in Projects for playing with tropes (not playing with wiki in general), more specifically a talk about notable aversions?
Since I'm already posting the query, I'll sneak my question here as wellnote Medieval Universal Literacy tlp draft lists aversions, but it's not an omnipresent/universally used trope in medieval settings. Are aversions notable in this case? The sponsor's current suggestion is not to include aversions on the trope page once it's launched, but include them on work pages with cross-wicking. (I think it's wrong, intuitively. Either aversions are notable and should be on the trope page, or they're not notable and should not be cross-wicked either.) I'll be happy to repost it elsewhere if there is a thread for it. Edited by XFllo

openMinor query with YMMV/LupinIIIPart5 Anime
I made this edit on the YMMV page for Lupin III: Part 5 ages ago under Unfortunate Implications, pointing out that some scenes could come off as homophobic (something many fans noticed). When I recently visited the page again I saw that a few people heavily edited that entry to try to "soften" the criticism/add "on the other hand" comments. I'm not sure if those kind of justifying edits were necessary, but I'd appreciate other people's opinions since I'm clearly biased and don't want to change it without reason. You can check through the history (there's not many edits on the page) to compare what I wrote vs what the other people changed/added.
These edits were from last year so this isn't an urgent matter, but it'll be good for me to know.

NotTheIntendedUse.Video Games lists "American Girls Premiere", but is it a video game?
We have UsefulNotes.Miku Miku Dance, so should it be a Useful Notes, if we ever make a page for it?
Edited by MaladyopenMoving a page to Useful Notes Videogame
A while back (maybe around two or so years ago), in the TLP crash rescue thread, I brought up VideoGame.Game Genie since it lacks trope examples. I said I thought it should be moved to UsefulNotes.Game Genie, since it's a way to tinker with games' code, rather than being a game itself. Only one person responded; Fighteer said he agreed with that idea, but that post wasn't marked as a mod statement (i.e., the post wasn't highlighted in red/pink), so I wasn't sure if I had permission.
Would moving the page to Useful Notes require a TRS thread, or is posting this on ATT enough? VideoGame.Mii was moved to UsefulNotes.Mii earlier this year without TRS, but I don't know if the consensus was gathered on ATT or the forums, so I wasn't sure.
Edit: It looks like VideoGame.Game Shark is in the same boat as VideoGame.Game Genie.

I'm just carrying some news so sorry if this may be a repost (I haven't looked on the forums), but Smackjeeves recently had an overhaul that broke all old links to it from here on TV Tropes.
I just want to note two things: 1) Any old links in the various pages here will either need updating to the new links, to be replaced with links elsewhere (a lot of comic authors are leaving Smackjeeves), or to be excised entirely.
2) Let's just say the changes are really hated, so the YMMV page at Smack Jeeves may need to be watched for complaining and creator bashing.
