Now, then...time for the start of...

Episode 7: The One

Zetta makes it back in time to see everyone cowering in fear from the latest "earth"-quake. Babylon warns them all that "The One" is coming. Salome thinks Babylon's losing his mind and tells him that he doesn't have to worry about The One's arrival.

The One is depicted as a badass Jesus-like figure who maintains the Balance Between Good and Evil. Because of The One, the Netherworld hasn't experienced a "Bad Ending" for millennia. The One's been rumored to put curses on people who try to dick around with the natural order of the cosmos, and those who are cursed by The One die in seven three days. (The picture is just for show; nobody actually knows what The One really looks like.)

Micky sides with Babylon, and wonders if The One specifically had them gather together to dole out punishment of some kind. Babylon swears that he's seen The One's power before, and was afflicted by The Curse. Zetta doesn't understand how that's possible, since Babylon is the oldest of all of the Overlords, and likely would have died long ago if The Curse were real. Babylon explains that he had to use nearly all of his mana power to couteract The Curse...costing him his invincibility. Drake, of course, laughs at the prospect of being cursed, as he prides himself on being "good and fair". Pram wonders which one of the Overlords made The One angry. Zetta wonders if Alex retreated when he heard the earthquake to hide himself from The One's wrath. That theory is thrown to hell when Alex appears before everyone. For once, he's not here to fight, and offer his "services" until the one takes off.

Alexander's minions are described as "tricky", whatever that means. However, Micky still needs a good thrashing, so he and his thugs are going to be answered to first.

"What's all this talk about 'The One' for, anyway?" asks Mugen.

"Eh...it probably doesn't concern us," says Steve. "If what that dragon guy says is true, we wouldn't be able to beat him, anyway."

Bob emerges from the garage and holds up his wrench in triumph. "All right! The Justice Gear's good and ready to go."

Jeanne giggles and flashes a sugary-sweet stare at the new vehicle, changing its green paint job to a shiny gold one. "There...NOW it's ready."

"Hey! I just had that polished. Green's my favorite color."

"Yeah, but gold is cooler."

"If you ask me," says Nabiki, "I think it would look better in red."

Johnny pushes Bob out of the way and hops into the cockpit. "Pssh...whatever, man. I don't care what color it is, as long as I get to blow stuff up with it. Load me up, grease monkey!"

Bob shakes his head, and then outfits the Justice Gear with tough armor plating and attack-boosting parts.

Meanwhile, Steve flips through the pages of the Sacred Tome to prepare a few more of his comrades for ascension. Ryuunosuke and Miyako are ready to make the jump to Master Samurai, Nabiki is ready for her promotion to Specialty Gal, Graz has gone up from Death Saber to Wolverine (in name only, bub!), and Woody powers up from Wood Folk to Stump Man.

Sub-Episode 3: Happy Dungeon 3

There's just one more Happy dungeon for the group to explore. This set of Happy Bluebird dolls is more aggressive than the last few bunches, and they start by approaching the warehouse that Zetta has laid down. Lamont decides to show off the power of the new Justice Gear by zapping them with its giant frontal laser cannon. Steve kills the other one before it gets a chance to use its hammer.

"I hear that in the hands of those monsters," says Mugen, "those hammers can make you dumber."

With that done, Steve and crew prepare to do Zetta's bidding in spite of The One watching over them. When Zetta enters Micky's netherworld, he sees a group of living vegetables. The leader, a corn man, demands to know what Zetta's doing there. He, of course, responds by telling them that he's the Freakin' Overlord. Corn guy had no idea there even was an Overlord. "I thought we were an autonomous collective," he says. Zetta offers them a reprieve if they decide to run away, but doesn't attack, knowing that T He One could mess his day up big time.

The corn guy is offended, and he and his carrot buddies smack Zetta around a bit, which makes Zetta very angry.

Stage 7-1: Micky's Harvest

The initial field iS populated with level 30-ish Corn and Carrot monsters, with a Foods Market in the back that can produce (pun intended) more of them at will. Steve and his gang take out the monsters outside of the market, but have to rely on the strength of the Justice Gear's laser cannon to take out the facility itself. The veggie monsters, while supposedly working for a pushover of an overlord, show Zetta that they mean business by destroying the warehouse.

"That's, what, the sixth time that's happened now? Seventh?" says Meredith. "You should really think about getting that replaced."

"I'm working on it, okay?" says Steve.

Probably odd to ask this after an at-least-seven-day-long-due-to-perfectly-reasonable-explanation delay (which I have personally experienced many times in the past), but what do you think is the best character you currently have access to? I'm aware that they are all unique and serve valuable purposes, both in the game and in your marvelous plot, but I doubt that picking favourites is beneath you.

Steve, my warrior. He always seems to have more mana and advance fasdter than everyone else (due to him being the main character and having a STR stat of over 600). Next most useful is Astral, who, despite having an INT stat of over 700 thanks to that Box, gets killed easily because of his squishiness.

Let's get back to the story, shall we?

(dissolve into game footage)

"By the way, Steve," says Lucca, "I spent our last battle gathering data on the opponents of this world, and it looks like they've been ratcheting up their strength. Perhaps this is in preparation for the coming of The One? In any case, we should probably do the same thing, or else they're going to keep beating us consistently."

Steve looks around at a few of his compatriots, who all appear to have faint battle auras, while his, which was once strong, is now fading away.

"Aw, how many times do I have to do this?" asked Steve. "I can't keep up an imposing presence on the battlefield if I don't have any Mana to show off."

"If you're that worried, go out there and knock some more heads, like you do best."

And so he does. Steve expends most of his remaining mana to create another dungeon. Luckily, his high attack power allows him to destroy most of his enemies in one or two hits, and he regains the mana he lost, and then some (gaining about 10 levels in the process).

Random Dungeon Highlights

Level 1: Meredith finds herself a delicious pie laying out in the open, and snatches it.

Level 3: A well-armed and powered Puppet Robot menaces the party. Rather than deal with it directly, they kill a few of its compatriots and run away before it opens fire on them.

Level 5: "Ooh! Someone left this fishing pole lying out here," says Io. "Don't mind if I do?"

"And what exactly are you going to do with that fishing pole?" asks Miyako. "We haven't seen a single fish since we showed up here?"

"You'd be surprised at the sorts of things you could do with a fishing pole."

Levels 6-7: A horde of enemies approaches the tome. With very limited space to summon units, Steve goes out by himself and lets the B- and C-teams assist him. The action is noticeably quieter on level 7.

Level 10: Boss level. An elite merchant greets the group as soon as they arrive. Taking full advantage of this opportunity, Steve and company gang up on her and unleash a devastating combination attack, ignoring all of the other mooks and getting a huge payday.

Level 11: Jeanne, Nabiki and Io go out to hunt down a pair of rogue Wizards, and are rewarded with a Dark Runner Z2 for their efforts.

Level 12: The leaders are attacked by a group of archer-maidens, one of whom is wielding a balloon. She attacks them and then floats away, giving one of her partners a huge power boost. That partner then proceeds to blow away Kashiwa with her Paper Fan of Doom.

Level 13: Breather floor. Just two enemies and a pair of running shoes.

Level 15: Practically a gimme. A highly-valued apple is within walking distance of the starting point. Since the next area spawns so far away from them, they have no choice but to move forward.

Level 16: A single level 60 warrior is on this level. Nabiki believes they could just take the thunder drum and go, but because fair play is lethal in the multiverse, they lay a surprise gang-beating on the warrior and take all of his stuff.

New Map Effects Discovered!

  • Night King Vampire Group: Summons Vampire units.
  • The Supplies Have Come: Summons vehicle parts and no enemies.
  • An archer appears: Summons Archer units.
  • An Eating Contest!: Summons a Gourmet ogre and some food.

Upon their return, Meredith wishes herself into an Outpost Tent, and raises her rank to Destroyer. Nabiki gets behind the wheel of the new Dark Runner Z2. Astral and Morrigan have enough mana to jump up to the next class, but choose to hold off on doing so until their next battle.

Pram is curious about The One's appearance, and asks Babylon if he can help. He says that all he remembers is that The One had lots of hair and a glossy sheen. Why The One would hide from the other Overlords is a mystery. Drake surmises that it's to avoid being attacked by idiots like him.

Out of The One-knows-where, Trenia walks in on the conversation, waving to something off-screen. Alex thanks Trenia again for giving him the information needed to track down Zetta. Trenia tells Pram that she sent a "new friend" to go play with Zetta, which makes Pram wonder if that was "The One".

Nope...it's more corn...and some Apple Kids, too. Zetta vows to abstain from eating vegetables forever, but the corn man tells him that he tastes delicious. Zetta gets mad at the corn talking down to him, and threatens to "butter [him] up and season to taste".

Stage 7-2: Kind-hearted Micky

The corn dude and a group of his vegetable and fruit friends are guarding an RX-66 Helldam. Lucca sees the giant mecha and stares at it with curious eyes.

"These guys look kinda dangerous, so I'm going to hang back here and let you guys do all the work for a change," says Meredith.

Caerbannog hijacks the Helldam and plays with it for a bit while the others tear up the scenery. The next area is a bridge that's dotted with weeds and other crappy trees, which they cut down to reveal a group of stray bandits. Caerbannog tries to soften them up with gunfire, but is unable to do so because he doesn't have that much experience driving vehicles. It doesn't matter as much anyway, since Steve, Tessa and Ryuunosuke are there to make the save.

"Aw, man," says the heroic carrot man. "And we don't even get to take it with us!"

"Don't worry," says Steve. "I'm sure we'll find others...somewhere."

Stage 7-3: Micky Phootsynthesis

"This looks like it could be easy," says Leonard. There's hardly anybody guarding this area.

"All right! LRV Strike team, advance!" Vanessa barks as she, Leonard and Ryan take the field.

Ryan giggles as she puts her flamethrower to one of the corn men. "You always did love the taste of popcorn," he says, "but...don't you think you're overdoing it a bit?"

"Are you kidding? They love this sort of thing. If we weren't meant to do this, the Overlord wouldn't have made them out of corn."

Ignoring the death cries of her victim, Vanessa continues to torch him and his pal, when they notice that there are more up ahead.

"Check it out! There's even more food on that field over there!" says Steve. "And it's not walking on two legs or anything!"

"Eww...leave that alone!" says Zetta. "You don't have any idea where it's been!"

Stage 7-4: Reverent Micky

The team finds itself in the middle of a blood-stained football field for the next area.

"Okay, what the hell just happened?" says Zetta. "Is this your idea of a joke, Micky? You really ARE a softy."

However, Zetta was unlucky enough to have spawned right on the center live, with two opposing teams - one made of carrot men in front of him, and another of apple men behind him. Neither looks friendly, but the carrot men appear to be more hostile (as they have the standard life meters compared to the yellow ones for the apple men, which is normally reserved for neutral characters). Curiously, there are no goalposts on either side, but there are stronger carrot men and apple men serving as goalkeepers. Zetta's forces attack the Carrot team, only to discover another football field behind them, with a Foods market capable of spawning even more carrots to the field. It turns out that the apple men are as interested in defeating the carrot team as much as Zetta is, so they ignore Zetta's goons and go after the spawn on the other side. After a few turns, it is revealed that the apple men have their own team of ever-spawning fruits and vegetables, but by defeating the carrot side, they've saved themselves the need to do any more fighting, and are allowed to continue.

New Map Effects

  • Tree Planting Project: Summons Wood Folk and tree-type resources.

Yes. Apples won by default because the opposing side didn't have enough players on the field. tongue. I could have slaughtered both teams for more experience and rewards, but that would just make my job unnecessarily harder.

*ahem* Anyway, not much more in this episode, so I'll just get on with it already.

Stage 7-5: Micky's Goodwill

The stage opens with a few more pumpkin and carrot men attempting to attack the Sacred Tome. Steve and Munky decide to teach them a lesson on unholy invasion of privacy with a group-attack strike, with Munky getting credit for the multi-kill. Nabiki scouts ahead in her Dark Runner and sees another Corn man in the distance. Io sees some scenery suitable for being taken home with him (okay, just a quality Flat Rock), but he and Nabiki destroy the rest. The corn man tries to attack him with a fierce Mega Wind spell, but he shrugs it off and lets Kashiwa tend to his wounds. The team draws the rest of the enemies close enough to give them a simultaneous and sound beating.

Stage 7-6: Micky's Bumper Crop

But this sad story of Zetta's vicious vegetable vendetta has not yet reached its conclusion. The leader, a gangly-looking King Corn, awaits Zetta's team at the end of the road, along with a brand new boss tune...the only time (I think) this shows up in-game.

[Wow...Zetta mush really hate corn for a boss theme of this magnitude to play for some vegetables...]

The Corn keeps silent and waits for Zetta's minions to begin their onslaught, and they do so by attacking one of the Foods Markets on the side of the field, reducing the enemy's chance to call in for reinforcements. The boss tries to send his buggy over to attack Steve, but it's quickly smashed to bits by Nabiki's own Buggy, which takes it for a ride on Route 666. The remaining troops get some token offense in before they're driven off in absence of their leader.

The corn men's leader rails against "the violence inherent to the system", and vows to stand up for his "oppressed brethren". Zetta gloats and scares him off, telling the lone rebellious corn that he just got "shucked".

"I, the mighty Overlord Zetta, do not fear corn, kettle or otherwise! I think I'll make muffins the next time corn crosses me...and don't you forget it!"

Back waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay above ground, Pram interrogates Trenia, still suspecting that she either is The One, or knows who The One is and/or what The One looks like. Trenia continues to play dumb, and dodges the question by giving her the same answer as Babylon ("hairy", "glossy sheen", etc.). Out of nowhere comes an old corn guy, sporting a long beard...and a glossy sheen. Zetta teleports back just in time to see Trenia's "new friend", supposedly The One. He thinks it to be one of the corn men he just slaughtered wholesale and zap-fries him, to the shock and horror of everyone. Babylon sails out of the area like an arrow being fired from a bow, worried of the retribution that he fears is about to come to Zetta.

EPISODE 7 END!

Episode 8: The Curse

"The curse of The One... It was strong enough to absorb all of Lord Babylon's Mana energy... What a terrifying power; those cursed by it have but 3 days to live."

Zetta is now freaking out, thinking that he inadvertently murdered The One. Seedle "applauds" him for doing so, but Alex doesn't believe that was The One. Pram disagrees, as there would be no other reason for the corn to exist here, much like Trenia. Babylon is fully convinced, Salome is worried, Micky is unimpressed (but not enough to make a "corny" joke), and the corn is Not Quite Dead. Dryzen tries to get Micky to put him out of his misery...but the corn man "curses" Zetta with his dying breath. Drake, ever the opportunist, attempts to "creatively interpret" the corn's words, faux-Space British accent and all. It's not...very convincing. Whatever the case, Zetta is slated to die within the next three days. Pram berates Drake for being a dick, and Drake threatens him by saying he'll only get The One to remove the curse if he relinquishes Drake's old netherworld to him. Salome laughs at Drake, saying she has no reason to fear death, for she would give up her own life to save Zetta. He says that he's not worried about the curse, since Babylon managed to survive it. Seedle can't believe that Zetta would be willing to survive without his Mana energy, much like a certain someone... *coughSalomecough*

With Drake supposedly out of the picture, Zetta decides to take his long-standing rivalry onto Alexander's home turf!

Alex is mad at Zetta for, of all things, being cursed by The One. He was the one who wanted to put an end to Zetta's miserable existence, after all. Zetta caught him sobbing. "Did not!", says Alex. He summons a handful of armed Shadow to fight Zetta just before disappearing.

Stage 8-1: Alexander's Rage

Along the river of lava are about a half-dozen Shadows armed with Hunting Rifles. They don't appear to be too tough. Backing them up are a half-dozen Death Sabers, waiting inside the lighthouses on the south side of the map.

"We've fought worse," says Astral as he leads the group into battle.

The group wastes no time in decimating Alex's front line, but the kitten brigade avenges their comrades' death with claws of iron and blades of silver. It doesn't take much longer for Zetta's group to regain the upper hand, and the kittens are driven off.

Pram is all by herself, saying that she was fortunate that "only" Zetta was cursed by The One. Trenia sneaks up behind her, and asks if she's "happy that nobody realized what [she] did". If everybody knew that it was Pram rewriting the Sacred Tome that caused all this, she would have been the one to be cursed instead of Zetta. Pram actually begins to get worried for a sec.

Meanwhile, back down on Alex's netherworld, Zetta runs into another group of Alex's minions, this set even more heavily armed than the last. Zetta believes he's be better off dying a warrior's death, rather than being punked by some curse. He's confident that he'll get his body restored if he conquers his old nemesis' Netherworld, he'll be able to have his body restored.

Stage 8-2: Thunderous Alex

The enemies are all grouped together on mountains opposite Zetta...perfect targets for area-of-effect nuke attacks. While Alex may have strength in numbers, a tactical genius he is most certainly not. The two soldier girls in the Helldams open fire on Astral's hut and only manage to kill Morrigan and Miyako. This proves to be their undoing, as they cluster together again and open themselves up for another group thrashing.

Stage 8-3: Furious Alexander

With Alex's troops scattered, Zetta presses the attack, chasing after a few remnants on a set of remote floating islands. Though the group is comprised of mostly new enemies (Thunder Giants, bandits, and some more of the Soldier women the group faced earlier), the battle proves to be incredibly easy, as they are unaware of Zetta's surprise presence.

Stage 8-4: Alexander's Flight

A bit unconventional here. Zetta is ambushed and isolated by a powerful level 58 Bushwhacker. Behind him are a pair of high-level Demon Soldiers, who are picking on a defenseless Evil Carrot, presumably in pursuit of the large box across the bottomless pit. It is possible for the Hut to reach across the pit to try and stop the soldiers, but they are also quite skilled, and also threaten to bring in more of their troops if left along for too long. Zetta defeats the bandit, waits for a while to see what happens when the two bullying soldiers kill the carrot (it erects a giant wall, preventing anyone from reaching the box on the other side, and moves on ahead.

Stage 8-5: Burning Spirit

"Hey...who turned the Boss BGM on?" says Steve. "I'm pretty sure we're not at the end of the episode yet."

"Don't worry about it," says Meredith. "Just roll with it. We probably won't be hearing this song again."

The team wonders what sort of weirdness Alex has cooked up for them, as they're approached by a single Incubus, who goes down in a Single-Stroke Battle against Miyako. However, it turns out that the incubus was just a mere scout for another group of lesser demons, and thus was expendable. Tessa doesn't take kindly to being blasted by one of the demons' Giga Fire spell, so she Mega Lasers it into oblivion with her Justice Gear. Goldie finds the scenery too boring and ugly, and starts destroying as much of it as possible with the Gear Metal LEX. The other two Incubuses have very powerful magic at their disposal. One Mega Fire bolt knocks out Meredith, while a Mega Ice spell is enough to give Steve a scare (it shaves about half of his HP). Zetta decides that he's had enough, and orders them to hurry up and finish the battle so that he can get on with his duel against Alex.

Alex is proud enough of Zetta's resilience, and says that he's worthy of being his life-long nemesis. However, he plans to put an end to Zetta right there, but is interruped by Trombe! Salome! She says to herself that there's little time for her to enact her plan, and that Zetta doesn't need to waste his time on a loser like Alex.

Stage 8-6: Alexander's Last Stand

Salome is acting as Zetta's stand in for this duel. Both have epic equipment befitting of overlords, but Salome has a distinct stats advantage over Alex, with astounding magical power and more-than-perfect magic resistance. None of Zetta's minions are capable of scratching either, so he orders them to stay behind.

Salome starts the battle off early with a blast of fire magic. Alex counters with a Thunder Drum, one much more powerful than the one used by Raiden, but barely enough to scratch Salome. Unfazed, Salome opens up a can on him and sends the God of Destruction reeling with a flurry of lightning-fast knife strikes. Alex grimaces, realizing that he'd been cheated out of his promised final duel, and lost to someone theoretically weaker tham him. Salome tells him that she's simply that much more powerful, even without her magic. As Alex retreats, she falls to the ground and starts spewing Blood from the Mouth. Zetta asks if she's purposely trying to speed up her own demise.

"You're...the strongest Overlord, Zetta," she says sorrowfully. "Since I left...you've gained...so much power... Tell me...how it felt to...become the strongest...in...the Universe..."

"Why does it matter?" asks Zetta.

"Just tell me, please... How did it feel?"

"It felt great. I've never felt so proud and elated as I did then."

"I see...I'm glad to hear that." She then turns to him and asks, "Zetta...do you love me?"

"Not that crap again!" Zetta groans. "You're so weak because you let emotions cloud your judgment!"

"Heh...I knew you wouldn't...answer me," says Salome, even though Zetta did respond to her. "Can you...do me a favor?"

"What is it?"

Salome's voice grows weaker and sadder as she asks, "Will you marry me...Zetta?"

Episode 8 END. But wait! What's going to happen next? Where did Alexander disappear to? Why did Salome ask Zetta to marry her all of a sudden, even though she appears to be on the verge of permanent death? How much does Trenia know about Pram's scheming? And what the hell is the deal with King Drake III? Tune in next week as we attempt to answer at least some of these questions in the final episode of Makai Kingdom: Liveblog of the Sacred Tome!

It appears that, after a lot of strife and turmoil for the Zetta army, the final battles are upon us. Gentle-doods, it has been a privilege playing with you. I'd pick up an instrument and start playing, but I only took one year of clarinet in slementary school, and I don't think that it'll suffice in this particular situation.

...By the way, can anything interesting/beatable be summoned using the Wish system at the base? I doubt we'll be doing a New Game Plus, so you may as well splurge the mana while you've still got it.

There's a wish called "I wish for a Prinny", which is the only way to obtain a Prinny unit, but it eats up a good chunk of Mana (1000 points). Other than that, all of the cool wishes (i.e. the ones that allow you to fight bonus bosses) can only be done after New Game+.

I also don't want to transmigrate any characters at this stage in the game, because that would reset their level to 1, and they will need to be as powerful as possible for the final boss battle.

Finale: Armageddon

"...marry me..."

Those words have weighed on Zetta's mind for a while. He finds the whole concept of marrying Salome ridiculous, for she's still a human, and fated to die in obscurity like all the others. The Netherworld is mostly restored, so he should supposedly shed his curse, and everything will be back to normal. Of course, it hasn't worked out that way for him, and he demands to see Pram to yell some sense into her. Unfortunately, all of the other Overlords have skedaddled, leaving him, Trenia, and Salome, who's now gone drunk with power...and mad with love. She's crashed her and Zetta's Netherworlds together, so that they too can be "together...forever". This was to be her final wish, but Zetta isn't having any of it. Salome then issues another ultimatum: kill her, or have her destroy his Netherworld a second time.

All of Zetta's minions let out a collective "WHAAAAAAT?!" upon hearing the news.

The fused Netherworld appears twisted, cold, and devoid of color, much unlike the colorful landscape he attacked earlier. "How is a Netherworld capable of surviving without Mana?", Zetta wonders.

Ah, mawwage. Wedding drama in time for X-mas, no less. Sigh.

"Hmmm...those guys look tough," says Steve. "Salome's not kidding around. Stone cold crazy, but still...not kidding around."

"I know of a good place where we can go for training, boss," Ryuunosuke interjects.

"All right, Ryu...lead the way."

Ryuunosuke concentrates extra-hard and wills into being a dungeon of his own personal creation. They get about 16 floors into it before Steve is satisfied enough to proceed with the operation.

Random Dungeon Summary:

L3: The group overpowers a few stragglers and swipes a CX-1 Hellpha from them. Until previously, the Hellpha was a UFO. Now it's just an...FO?

"Dood! That's awesome!"

Morrigan looks around frantically. "Who said that?"

"I did, dood!"

Morrigan looks behind her and sees a Prinny, waving a dagger in the air triumphantly.

"Oh, hello there, little Prinny person," she says. "I don't recall seeing you around here before. You're not a spy for Salome, are you?"

"No way, dood! I don't even know who Salome is! Someone named Steve told me I could hang out here, dood."

"Oh...if you're one of Steve's friends, then...welcome to the team, uh...'dude'."

The Prinny sticks out one of his fins. "Call me Charlie, dood!"

"Okay, Charliedude! Nice to meet'cha!"

Charlie sighs. "Never mind..."

L6: The team encounters a new type of enemy...a Lesser Demon. Aside from its large axe, it poses little threat to the heroes, as it is too far away to attack.

L7: A congested area full of warrior-type enemies. The group tries to clear them all out as quickly and delicately as possible without damaging the Tome.

L10: Boss floor. This one is weaker than most, so the team simply defeats it, steals an extra Diver and Gency Tonic and proceeds.

Stage 9-1: Salome's Intention

Salome's first brigade consists of a boss Rogue, flanked by four Priests and two Mesmerizers riding Dark Gear XXs, which resemble an infernal skull of some sort.

"Netherworld technology is such a wonderful thing, don't you think?" says Bob.

Steve runs in and Tornado slashes the group of Priests, hoping to draw the attention of the Dark Gears to him. It doesn't quite work, as they go for the camps instead. However, this brings them close enough to have the entire crew of the hut wallop him.

Stage 9-2: Salome the Temptress

Salome has a bunch of Raider Huts set up in a remote corner of her Netherworld, fortified by groups of Professors, priestesses and and eye creatures. The the eye creatures stationed out front don't put up much of a fight. The other henchmen that emerge from their fortifications aren't nearly as passive. Steve comes down with a nasty case of poison trying to fight them off, but Tessa comes to his rescue with an Omega Laser. Meredith and Ryuunosuke get on the beatdown bandwagon and finish the last of the Priestess off before they can cause any more damage.

Pram reappears, realizing that she's been tricked. She sees Trenia watching the chaos down on Salome's netherworld, and Trenia says that it's "that woman's last chance".

I think you win the game when you summon a Prinny. I mean, the game might not acknowledge it, but it's a Super Secret Special Internet Victory Condition.

Congratulations, dood! Where's the joy of being a badass freakin' overlord if you don't have an adorable mascot character under your wings...er, flippers?

Also, what exactly is Salome's last chance for, I wonder? I suppose we'll have to wait another 4-6 battles to find out...
