Old Magnificent Bastard thread

Welcome to the Magnificent Bastard proposal thread! This is the thread where new Magnificent Bastard examples are vetted, approved, and written up. If you're looking for the general cleanup thread (for cuts, rewrites, expansions, and the like), please go here

Important: Before suggesting any new examples, please read the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List; if you have any questions, the odds are high they are answered there. Additionally, please check here for the earliest date a work can be discussed (usually two weeks from the U.S. release date) and whether the work has already been reserved by another user.

Here is how the process works:

    Process

  1. If you have a candidate to propose, you can simply come right in and propose them! If the character's run is brief, such as a single issue of a comic book, then a simple summary of their actions and any potential mitigating features will be enough; for longer-running candidates, an effortpost (EP) might be helpful for organizing the proposal. An EP is not outright required, but please be mindful that if a post becomes too clunky and unorganized, it can be very hard for other people to follow.

  2. After the proposal, there will be a 72-hour discussion and voting period, where people may ask questions and vote on the candidate. The number of upvotes must outnumber the downvotes by at least five for the character to be considered "approved".

  3. Three days after the proposal has been made, if the character has been approved, you may post the writeup (the text to be posted on the trope page itself) on the thread and send it to the drafts page. Your candidate will soon be added to the MB subpage. If the work has a page, you should add your candidate to the relevant YMMV page. Voila! It's that simple!

Outside of this process, we do have a few ground rules:

    Ground Rules

  1. To keep the thread moving at a reasonable pace, there are some restrictions on when a proposal can be made. There should only be a maximum of four EPs posted both per page and per hour to ensure that nothing gets lost in the shuffle; additionally, each individual troper should only be proposing or writing up characters from a maximum of three works at a time (from initial proposals to end of their voting period). If your proposal would fall outside of either of these guidelines, we'd like to ask you to please wait until they would fit within; feel free to type them up on an outside document, and then when the time comes, you can just copy, paste, and post!

  2. No plagiarism of any kind. This is a very serious matter site-wide, as the website could get in actual legal trouble over this; as a result, this can very quickly lead to mod intervention. This can take many different forms:
    1. Direct plagiarism, i.e. wholesale copying. This is not only the easiest to find, but is also the most likely to warrant quick moderator intervention. To be clear, quoting in some places is perfectly acceptable, but it has to be very clear you're quoting from something else and it cannot be anything longer than a sentence or two - if you're quoting an entire work summary from Wikipedia, no one is going to believe you've actually consumed the work, so even if you cite your source, your candidate will be downvoted anyway.
    2. Self-plagiarism. Even if you can prove that you wrote the same text in both places, the site itself can't contain any of the duplicated text. If you already wrote something once before, it's not too hard to write it a second time.
    3. Using another site's work as a template for a proposal. Just because you don't copy and paste something directly doesn't mean it's any harder to detect if you're basing parts or all of your proposal on text someone else wrote. To be clear, this doesn't violate site rules and won't lead to mod intervention, but just like if you directly plagiarize, no one will believe you've consumed the work if you're clearly basing your proposal on something else. This thread largely operates on the honor system, and tweaking someone else's work to pass it off as your own is one of the fastest ways to lose trust.

  3. Votes must be for specific candidates, meaning no blanket voting (i.e. "yes to everyone I missed").

  4. If you are the first person to downvote a candidate, please provide an explanation of why when you do so. We're here for discussions above all, and a hit-and-run downvote doesn't facilitate anything.

  5. If a work is already reserved by another user, please don't comment on the work or any potential characters worth discussion before the discussion date. We know how exciting it is when a work has a keeper that you're waiting to talk about, but it's not fair to the person who reserved the work who is just as excited to lead the discussion to see the discussion getting spoiled before they get to do it. On the other hand, if the reservation only has one name attached, shoot them a PM - they may be down for a collaboration, which will get you in on the fun as well!

  6. Please keep the thread on-topic. While discussing the trope is fun and we encourage people to enjoy it, questions like "who's your favorite MB" are off-topic and can lead to thumps. That's the kind of question to take to people's PMs if they're willing. Similarly, while we encourage friendliness and familiarity with other users, posts should always have some kind of thread-relevant purpose; for instance, if you want to wish someone a happy birthday, feel free to, but if it's the only thing in the post, it's off-topic and needs something else alongside it. Again, though, while we strive for a friendly atmosphere, this is not Facebook; life updates are fun, but unless they have some kind of impact on your thread participation, please do not bring it here - we have Yack Fest for that.

  7. Please refrain from asking anything along the lines of "How Did We Miss This One?" In almost every case, the answer is simply "No one thought about it before". This Is a Wiki where everyone has different interests, and the fact that people missed a particular candidate, even one that seems like a textbook example of a trope or a character who is particularly iconic in pop culture, means absolutely nothing. The question is disruptive, has a simple and consistent answer, and provides nothing to any discussion.

  8. If you are suspended from other parts of the website, it is still possible to participate!
    1. For users who are suspended from editing the wiki, you still have full access to this thread. You can propose candidates and write them up with no issues whatsoever; while you will have to ask someone else to post the entry to the relevant pages once it is done, all write-ups are considered thread-approved - as in, done by consensus - and thus doing so does not violate any rules regarding meatpuppeting.
    2. If you are suspended from the forums, your participation is limited but not impossible. It is still possible for a forum-suspended user to assist in creating the write-up for a character who has already been approved; as previously mentioned, write-ups are inherently considered a consensus-based edit and thus not tied to any one particular user. However, you can not assist in the proposal of a character; as a proposal is based around the forum rather than the wiki, doing so with a forum suspension qualifies as meatpuppeting.

  9. Please keep all discussions "in-house".
    1. What other wikis use for MB equivalents is irrelevant here.
    2. Please be wary of using other wikis, Fandom or otherwise, as sources of information. They are just as fallible as a site like Wikipedia in regards to accuracy because they can be edited by any user, just as this site can.
    3. Do not attempt to force a communication with an author in an attempt to gather evidence or settle a debate; besides the fact that this is a YMMV trope and thus author intent has variable weight depending on the circumstance, doing so may cross the line into drama exportation, which is prohibited site-wide.

If you would like to use an EP for your candidate, here's the general format. This format does not have to be followed exactly, but these are the main topics that need to be covered:

    Effortpost Template

What is the work?

This is a brief summary of the work you're going to discuss. We don't need a full plot summary here, just however much we need to understand going into the discussion — it can even be as simple as quoting the summary on the work's page.

Who is the candidate and what have they done?

This is essentially the character's biography — who they are, their story, their goals and methodology, and, preferably (though not required), what happens to the candidate at the end. It does not have to include every single thing they ever do — for some characters, we'd be here all day if that was the case — but it should include the highlights of their journey.

How are they Magnificent?

This is the point where you highlight the character's brilliance. How to they convey their intelligence and charm to the audience? What makes them stand out among the crowd? What are their goals and how do they go about accomplishing them? This part welcomes a lot of creative thinking — not everyone has to be a Machiavellian Diabolical Mastermind to be worth considering here! This is also the time to showcase how the character can think on their feet if it's necessary.

How are they a Bastard? How are they not too bad?

What kinds of moral lines is this character willing to cross for the sake of their goal? Are they willing to let innocents die? Start wars? Commit crimes? The character has to show some kind of unscrupulousness in order to count as a "Bastard". Notably, this character does not necessarily have to be the villain, and an Anti-Hero can cross the line if they're immoral enough, but they have to be immoral somehow.

This is also the section where you then state your case for why they're not too bad. Perhaps their good intentions help mitigate their crimes. Perhaps others are shown to be much worse than them. Perhaps they're prone to Pet the Dog moments or are even fighting on behalf of loved ones. Whatever the case, there are certain lines that an MB can't cross, but as long as their villainy is reasonable for their goal, they can be considered.

Final verdict?

This is where you post your final conclusion on the character in question. You can continue elaborating on your reasons or even just say a simple "yes" or "no"; at this point, we've heard everything we need to hear.

And that's everything you need to know. Welcome to the thread!

Cool.

Work

Fillmore! is a Buddy Cop Show about safety patrol kids, most notably Fillmorre and Ingrid, who have a lot of power to investigate crimes at their Academy of Adventure. This episode, “The Currency of Doubt” centers around ballroom dancing and gambling and has two independent but related candidates.

Characters

Natasha is a talented dancer who moved to America from Europe. She fell out with her dance partner and implied boyfriend Larry after he dropped her and she hurt her leg. Even after recovering, she had a psychological block that made her act hurt and she and Larry fell out. She takes to training two other dancers named Toby and Tina to win the trophy she and Larry aspired for but she can no longer win without a partner. She is stern to them but with occasional moments of praise and respect.

Paulie is a kid obsessed with collecting smoits (tickets that come with poor-tasting candy bars but and are redeemable for prizes like video games if amassed in bulk). He is viewed as an expert on them and someone unsavory enough to be used as The Stool Pigeon.

Natasha and Larry reconcile and decide to reenter the contest but realize Toby and Tina are too well trained and will take the trophy, so they conspire to split the pair up. They switch the lactose intolerant Toby’s eggs with cheese shaped eggs to make him leave school while sick and have no alibi, then Natasha uses her knowledge of Toby’s locket combination to steal his and Tina’s stash of smoits so Toby will be accused of stealing them due to his gambling problem and fall out with Tina before the competition. Natasha acts crushed and pretends to still hate Larry while helping Tina audition a replacement.

Paulie is an informant who explains what smoits are to Fillmore and Ingrid and points them to the casino where Toby gambles. He keeps an eye on them throughout the investigation, following them at times and planning to steal the smoits for himself if they find them.

When Fillmore and Ingrid go to a cheese shop for information about the egg-shaped cheese (which could lead them to Larry’s mom), a masked Natasha vaults across awnings to jump in front of them. She kicks a pile of cartons (light plastic ones but enough to immobilize them for a bit and probably cause some cuts and bruising) to make it fall toward them, then leaps away in a conspiciosuly acrobatic way to make it, presumably look like someone in perfect health did it. She succeeds in keeping them from reaching the shop before it closes, but Ingrid does a cute little kid face to get the proprietor to spare them some time and they get a clue that points to Larry.

Fillmore and Ingrid confront and expose the thieves before they can start dancing. Larry is quickly caught, but Natasha slides under Fillmore’s legs and then does a Vine Swing from a ceiling decoration, trying to at least escape with the smoits as a Consolation Prize. She defiantly says she deserves them with her career over when she is cornered.

Paulie then grabs the smoites and nearly gets away (reminding Fillmore he said not to trust anyone about smoits) but Tina stops him and tosses the smoits into the wind due to the negative effect they’ve had on her. Paulie yells in shock at his lost fortune but then resignedly not bothering to grab at stray bills in the wind.

Magnificent

Natasha is an incredible athlete and actress who skillfully frames Tony and delays the investigation while acitng like she really has lost any hope of dancing herself and still hates Larry. She would have kept Ingrid and Fillmore from learning the truth until after the dance if not for them leaarnign things she couldn't posssibly know about or control due to 1) Ingrid charming the shopkeeper to let ask questions in after he closed for the night, 2) Fillmore visiting the seamstress who was making Natasha’s dance gown to get his broken sash restitched and noticing the gown, and 3) Tina innocently telling Fillmore that Natasha’s injury is all psychological (without that he wouldn’t have realized it could have been her outside the cheese shop).

Natasha is fairly brusque onscreen but the seamstress says she is Nice to the Waiter and she and Larry reconcile after a long fight offscreen in a way that incidates she can eventually let go of grudges.

Paulie is polite and street-smart while being interviewed and gives helpful information designed to help himself steal the prize in the end. He also stands out among the many villains of the show who try to steal in plain view or runaway when the school can just call their parents. His family is about to move away, so he is committing the equivalent of The Perfect Crime and the heroes and teachers won’t be able to give him detentions and take back the smoits the next day when he will be out of their jurisdiction

Bastard

Both steal smoits Toby and Tina worked hard for and Natasha tries to break up her protégés due to her own ambition.

Leaving his family after studying "Bogan," the Dark Side, Xendor became a great Jedi Knight but broke with the order over his desire to pursue studies of Bogan. Ultimately founding his own academy, Xendor marshaled his forces and struck out at the Jedi Order in the First Great Schism, nearly toppling the Jedi Order and Republic himself with his second in command and lover Arden Lyn. Despite the great war, Xendor remained a figure of renown to the Legions, whose actions influenced Dark Siders for milennia after.

Here is Googi's write up, whcih I forgot while posting the Fillmore duo.

  • City For Conquest: Googi is an impoverished young man during The Great Depression who serves prison time for petty thefts and vows to never take risks again except for big stakes. He becomes a prominent gangster who is ruthless toward his enemies but throws generous parties for his friends, including his old friend Jimmy, a boxer who Googi makes money betting on. When Jimmy loses both his eyesight and a championship match Googi bet heavily on at the same time, Googi's main concern is for his friend. He seeks revenge on the gamblers who had Jimmy’s opponent grind rosin dust into his eyes, tricking them into inviting him to leave the match with them in their car when he has already had his bodyguard dispatch and replace their driver. He covertly checks the two men for weapons, then kills one of them without warning and lets the unarmed man leave with the threat of future retaliation unless Jimmy recovers. When the other man turns the tables and kills him, Googi's last words are to admit he didn't see that coming.

Okay, again from In Death, the "Missing in Death" novella. And for those unsure why it's in quotes and not italicized, that's how Nora has it on her webpage.

Before starting, lemme ping ~Miraculous & ~Ravok

Who is Ivan Draski?

On a ferry, a woman (Carolee Grogan) has to use the bathroom, so walks in even though it says out of order. There is a woman's body, lots of blood, and a man, who apologized to the first woman before stunning her.

Later on, there are fireworks as a distraction, meanwhile Carolee is found an hour later, with no serious injury, just a headache and memory loss.

The victim's body is also missing, but there's enough blood to identify her as Dana Buckley, a corporate spy and assassin responsible for possibly 50-250 deaths (and honestly, the only reason I'm not effortposting her for Complete Monster is because we don't see enough of her. Even at the low end she'd likely be heinous enough),

Roarke and Eve find out about "Owl" (turns out to be Draski), who had invented a device that basically can temporarily erase memory.

Around 20 years prior, he was lured away from EWN to work for HSO, when HSO had Buckley kill Ivan's wife and pre-teen daughter and make it look like an EWN hit.

Eventually, they find that Buckley's running an auction—despite being dead. This was all part of Draski's plan.

He eventually arrives at Eve and Roarke's house and confesses everything. He learned six months ago that Dana killed his family, and so pretended to be willing to sell the Lost Time device to get his hands on her. Dana was going to use a bomb and kill others as a distraction to get away. Ivan used the Lost Time device on Carolee to have her hide for an hour, and later destroys the device.

He wants to see Eve when he realizes the man who let her be raped by her father ordered the killing of Draski's family.

Eve lets him go, warning him he probably has only an hour or 2 before HSO will search for him.

Magnificent?

I'd say yes. He planned revenge for six months, killed his target, was able to deal with an unexpected variable (without lasting injury), and was able to make it that several "really bad guys" could be captured.

Now, the one concern is him being willing to face justice when he arrives at Eve and Roarke's house, but IMO that doesn't detract from his magnificence; if anything it makes him more honorable.

Bastard? Too much?

DEFINITELY not too much. I mean, hell, look at the CM page. The only issue is if he is ENOUGH of one. I think he passes. His murder was fairly brutal, even if the victim deserved it. To quote Ravok (thanks to him for checking it out, and for giving me permission to quote him): "Yeah I think he does just push by on bastard credentials, he expresses remorse over it but he does harm people other than his main target and throws the ferry into chaos so I think it pushes him over."

Conclusion?

I think he counts, but it's close.

If you're curious, PM me and I'll send you a link. It's a relatively quick read (maybe a couple of hours, tops).

I've got one more, though if either Mir or Ravok wanna take it, I'm fine with that. It was Draski who I'm focused on.

Okay, here's one that I'm admittedly uncertain about, but I've talked with some people and frankly, I can't think of a reason why they necessarily don't count, so let's give this a shot. Sorry for the long post incoming:

What is the work?

We're pretty familiar with the Batman: Arkham Series, I'm sure. It started with Batman: Arkham Asylum and eventually expanded to a legitimate franchise in its own right, with tie-in comics and novels galore. It chronicles a new version of Batman's career, starting from about two years in until it concludes with his potential death in Batman: Arkham Knight. Along the way, we get to punch a lot of his Rogues Gallery right in the face, like Joker, Scarecrow, Penguin, and others - and one of those rogues is one of his classic long-term enemies.

Who is Harvey Dent/Two-Face? What does he do?

We all know the origin story for Harvey Dent - he was once one of Batman's most loyal allies in the war against crime and served as Gotham's "White Knight" DA. That lasted until Carmine Falcone splashed him with acid during a trial, and while Harvey went down fighting, he did go down and half of his body was scarred. His mind fractured with his body and he became Two-Face, a criminal mastermind obsessed with duality and chance. At some point, he was captured and taken back to Arkham Asylum, but he escaped before Joker's takeover and was discovered to have been robbing a bank during the incident. For a long time, he was a pretty generic crime boss, but in the run-up to Arkham City, Harvey starts gradually stepping up his game.

When Hugo Strange begins cracking down on crime, eventually Two-Face was one of only three people still unincarcerated - the other two being Batman and Catwoman. Naturally, Two-Face sells her out to TYGER and gets her apartment ransacked - and while they're distracted with her, Two-Face goes to Quincy Sharp's office and takes pictures of the Arkham City designs until she catches up to him. He tosses the physical plans into the fire right before TYGER arrives, and though Catwoman steals his camera while he's arrested, it's revealed that he managed to steal the SIM card from it and he swallows it, enraging her enough that she gets arrested as well. He's then taken to Arkham City and quickly establishes himself as one of the top dogs, even managing to kidnap the Joker in a grand trial to get rid of him forget. With almost everyone in Arkham City present, Two-Face almost manages to "win" the trial and execute Joker before Batman's appearance makes everyone scatter, including Joker and Harley.

Catwoman eventually gets a tip from Strange that Two-Face has the schematics for the City's Confiscated Goods Vault in his office, but Two-Face gets the drop on her and kidnaps her. A flip of the coin makes him decide to give her a trial instead of executing her, but Batman arrives once more. Though he shoots Batman down, Catwoman escapes and slashes him, and before he can shoot her with his second hidden gun, Batman ties him up and she takes the plans she needs. At some point after this admittedly humiliating mistake, he manages to escape and claws his way back up to the top of the food chain. First, he plants a bomb in Catwoman's apartment and steals all of her loot, then he moves to Penguin's Museum, massacres his gang, and makes it his home, though he knows that Catwoman is coming for her loot. Though she does indeed come and defeat him, he reveals that he gave away half of the loot, so she knocks him out and moves on to dealing with the people he gave it to.

Now, this isn't particularly cool so far, but in the lead-up to Knight? Harvey kicks up his game significantly.

Following Protocol Ten, Harvey masterminds the class-action lawsuit that the criminals bring against the city; the end result is all of Gotham's criminals being put back on the street and the city bankrupting itself by paying off all the people Strange tried to kill. With his cut of the payout, Harvey starts a new business: Hell's Gate, a joint garbage disposal and legal services business that serves as the perfect front for his later plans to smuggle money. Before this could really get off the ground, he gets invited to Scarecrow's alliance, which leads to all the Rogues banding together to kill Batman on Halloween, including Harvey buying guns from Penguin.

On the night of Knight, Two-Face's gang starts robbing banks across the city, replenishing their lost funds from bankrolling the attack. To be frank, none of this is too impressive, and Two-Face is eventually captured like the other Rogues. However, in the Robin DLC, a crucial detail is revealed: Two-Face wasn't just robbing Gotham's banks, he was also robbing Bludhaven's banks while Nightwing was occupied. As a result, his gang still walks away with millions, and as a result, he eventually manages to successfully escape the GCPD (unlike Riddler and Penguin). Robin gets on the case and goes after him, eventually leading to a one-on-one confrontation. Two-Face manages to down Robin with only two shots (he shoots the shield once, and when this makes him stumble he shoots him in the leg), so he approaches Robin saying that he'll never be the Bat, it comes time for the traditional coin toss. Harvey flips the coin, but a brief distraction caused by Oracle lets Robin knock him out as Robin sadly realizes the big shoes he has to fill with Batman's loss.

Is he Magnificent?

Of Batman's mid-tier rogues (the tier like him, Riddler, Penguin, and Harley), Two-Face is easily the most intelligent and persistent foe Batman faces just like he was one of Batman's most intelligent allies when he was the DA. He stays one step ahead of Catwoman throughout their rivalry even though she physically wins every confrontation, even ensuring that she's sent to Arkham City, gets the drop on the Joker in the tie-in material and comes close to killing him, almost kills Catwoman in both execution and an apartment bomb, and ultimately wins the gang war of City, with Joker dead and Penguin imprisoned in his own museum. Even when he's beaten, he gets the last laugh by making Catwoman effectively go on a scavenger hunt to find the rest of her stuff.

However, it's Knight where he severely kicks up his game. It's revealed that he led the class-action lawsuit from behind the scenes, with the result being hundreds of criminals not just being let go but actively paid off by the city and ensuring that all of the Rogues are able to strike back eventually. This is the big one that I can't really overstate - he is singlehandedly responsible for why any of the villains are able to come back in Knight and make Scarecrow's attack happen. I also think that his side mission compared to the other mid-tier Rogues is what makes him stand out:

  • Riddler just fails at every turn and ends the series broke and unable to ever strike back
  • Penguin comes close to escaping GCPD, but thanks to Nightwing's intervention doesn't make it out of the elevator
  • Scarecrow's mind is permanently broken
  • Black Mask gets murdered by the Red Hood in a very unceremonious death
  • Most of the other Rogues are just permanently defeated
  • Two-Face not only escapes the GCPD, but because he was prepared enough to have banks robbed in another city in Nightwing's absence, he makes millions in the process, and in his fight with Robin he comes damn close to winning through his quick-thinking and shooting.

Ultimately? He's not a power-mover like Ra's or a master thief like Catwoman, but for Batman's mundane Rogues, Two-Face is easily the standout of them and is both a skilled opponent and also a brilliant mind. I never proposed him before because something just doesn't feel like it clicks, but honestly, I think from an objective standpoint I think he's clear here.

Is he a Bastard?

Pretty standard crime stuff - he robs banks, he's willing to kill people, and in Knight he flips the coin to potentially kill his men's families if they fail him, but any of the potentially really bad stuff to really shake your head at is offscreen and it's made clear that if the coin comes up clean, Harvey's good side will take a good option instead of a bad one. He even implies that he's robbing corrupt banks as a twisted form of justice rather than just greed ("The Bank of Gotham, it launders money for the mob... Now sure, there's some clean mixed in with the dirty, but what isn't tainted in this town?"). Compared to others like Penguin (serial torturer) or Riddler (who, thanks to a prequel novel, may be added to the CM list soon), Two-Face actually has a balance.

Any mitigating features?

There's some inherent tragedy and instability in the character as there almost always is - for instance, there's a potential conversation where he acknowledges that he's a monster and wishes Falcone had just killed him, and another when Strange gives Harvey the chance to put the scars behind him and he throws it away to get Catwoman's location - but it's not to the degree that it takes away from his brilliance. It shows that he's self-aware and may miss who he used to be, but it doesn't make him pathetic at all. As for any instability, by Knight it's decreased dramatically, implying that his two sides have finally come to an agreement on how to share the body.

He also calls Catwoman a "bitch" several times, but the two of them hate each others guts and are trying to kill each other, so I don't see any inherent misogyny in it.

Final verdict?

Honestly, I still feel weird, but he was at least worth a discussion and with everything laid out, I think I'm a yes. What about you?

My first time doing an MB proposal, since I wanna try something else in this site than doing some C Ms.

What's The Work?

Supercrooks is a 4 issue comics series which soon got a anime adaptation (might recheck it eventually). A supervillain and robber, Johnny Bolt was part of a jewelry heist untill he got caught by the superhero The Gladiator. He was sent to jail for 5 years, and lost his girlfriend Kasey who was supposed to get married and move on from their supervillain life together. However, one day his former mentor The Hear AKA Carmine has serious debt to pay to a bunch of supervillains who owns the casino that Carmine was gambling in. So Johnny and his ex now have to help him out by hosting another crazy heist one last time.

Who's Johnny Bolt?

Our aforementioned Villain Protagonist, Johnny as stated before was a thief and former apprentice of The Heat who mentioned that they nearly robbed Fort Knox in the past. Now he seeks to help his former mentor get out of debt by another heist but this time, the heist will be in Spain where there's no superheroes to get in the way. He begins forming his old gang back together, convincing them to join him in this heist (neglecting a very important info we get into later). The now assembled team goes to an airport, using Kasey's psychic powers to perform illusions to make everyone think they're a bunch of innocent rabbis and not supervillains.

Landing in Spain, Johnny blackmails the very superhero that locked him up five years ago: The Gladiator. Johnny contacted the hero online, tricking him into thinking he's one of his potential dates to meet at Slain. However, Johnny uses the fact that he's cheating on his own wife to date men in exotic locations, threatening him that if he gets harned than Johnny would post the R-rated images The Gladiator sent him online to the news agency across the world (photos he got from one of Gladiator's former lovers). he has The Gladiator forced to be part of his crew as part of his heist. As The Gladiator is an important part of Johnny's plan since former superhero The Praetorian is now the bodyguard of his target.

Now the guy they're robbing? The Dreaded Big Bad supervillain The Bastard himself. Something Johnny revealed to the gang who are obviously very hesitant to do once that important detail was revealed. Johnny has Roddy and Kasey disguise themselves as scientists willing to sell a (made up) project involving a time machine to The Bastard, while Kasey examines the whole mansion while using her psychic powers to get pass the guards. He also makes sure to buy costumes for his groups so that no one would see their faces, they begin their heist (without Kasey as she thinks she did her part already), taking out the guards (but avoid killing them) and infiltrating the mansion. Then they soon encounter hallway to the vault which is rigged with boobytraps hence why he brought in the Diesel Brothers, Roddy and Sammy, to turn it off due to their healing factors being a big advantage.

Once that's done, they successfully retrieve the Space-Case, a case that's look normal outside but is massive in the inside and has lots of money in it. Now The Bastard caught on to them, but Johnny kept his cool and start shitalking to the psycho supervillain and then faces The Praetorian. Now the Preatorian was handing a brutal ass kicking to him and the group, but everything still played in Johnny's favor as The Gladiator gives The Praetorian a brutal yet justly beat down that gave him brain damages. Successfully, they stole the vast wealth that The Bastard held and lied low for a while.

Now everyone got what they wanted with the money with each having their own happy ending. But, considering how petty and vindictive The Bastard can be, Johnny frames the Salamander and his possies to be brutally murdered by The Bastard considering they're the ones who put them in this mess in the first place.

Is He Magnificent?

I say so, he's a clever planner who manages to lead a very successful heist while outsmarting the world's greatest supervillain and gets off scott free with his friends. He planned everything and made sure it played in his favor, cleverly using the abilities of each of his teammates to pull this heist successfully while doing all this just to save his friend and mentor from being in dept from another evil supervillain.

All while making sure they all get away with it all and framing the Asshole Victims to get The Bastard off their trail. He is also a charming Affably Evil who cares for his teammates who were old friends of his, who later dropped all his days of theft and robberies just to get a normal life with his lover at the end of the story.

Is He Bastard?

He's a thief and a supervillain, perfectly okay with blackmailing a superhero to help him in his heist, and perfectly fine with brutally beating down an opponent even if gives them brain damages. However he's Affably Evil, and refuses to kill anyone and simply does enough damage to knock them out. He sincerely cares for his teammates and gave each of them the share of money they stolen, and eventually owned up to his mistakes with what he did to his girlfriend in the past. While he's okay giving The Praetorian brain damages and having the Salamander and his goons brutally killed, most of not all of them deserved it (Praetorian is a cowardly Smug Snake and highly corrupt superhero and Salamander is the one who kick-started the plot in the first place). Plus he's no where near as bad as the main villain, so yeah I don't think he's too much of a bastard.

Final Verdict

My first time doing this, so I'll leave it up to you.

[tup] Milady, Natasha, Paulie, Draski, Two-Face, and Johnny Bolt.

  • Worm: Quinn Calle is a swaggeringly confident and experienced lawyer for supervillains. Hired to represent Taylor when she turns herself in to the PRT, Calle wastes no time coming up with strategies to secure her demands for enlistment into the Wards and condoned villainy for the other Undersiders, paring down her massive list of charges to a small handful of crimes. Constantly thinking up new advantages and coordinating with the Undersiders through untraceable calls, Calle remains utterly unphased by even the brutal murders of Director Tagg and Alexandria herself, finding footage of the pair psychologically torturing Taylor to threaten to release to the public so he can use the potential PR nightmare to give his client a leg up. Despite his lack of powers, Calle stands out as an unscrupulous yet collected, friendly, and reliable asset, even finding his own way to help save the world by releasing select supervillains to fight Scion on Gold Morning.

[tup] to Draski, Dent, and Johnny

I'm currently watching Revenge (2011) with my sister, and I'm not gonna write an EP yet because I'm still making my way through the series, but I do want to write one for Emily Thorne once I'm done, if I still think she might count with the context of the full show. Do I have to reserve her or something or do I just type out an effort post whenever (as long as there aren't already four on the current page like the rules say)?

Far as I know, reservations are only for upcoming works. Anything that has been out for more than two weeks and is not already reserved is fair game.
