This thread is a metathread for Trope Repair Shop discussion. Things like TRS policy, what is needed in a TRS opening post, questions about whether a certain topic is TRS-worthy and questions about why a thread wasn't opened go here.
Some guidelines for when/whether to use TRS:
- If the trope is fine, but has some bad examples, feel free to clean them up or to start a cleanup project at Projects: Short-Term
. Trope Repair Shop is for when cleaning isn't sufficient.
- If you think there's something wrong with the trope that systematically attracts improper examples, start a discussion at Trope Talk. Use a Wick Check to see whether there's an issue present (and if there is, what the issue is), and post the results on TRS Queue and wait your turn if a problem is present. The following methods are two possible ways to do a wick check (though not necessarily the only ways):
- You can go ahead with the Wick Check without a discussion if you know what you're looking for. While it's not mandatory, feel free to ask someone for help confirming that you got the issue and the numbers correct.
- Consult the Wick Check Project thread to collect evidence if you need help.
- If a wick check is too much for you, you can leave the issue at Tropes Needing TRS citing the discussion.
- Depending on a trope (or non-trope) in question, a wick check may be determined to not be required, such as for tropes that are not thriving (per the standards for trope health listed on the Wick page). However, there is no problem if you want to do one anyway.

Noting here that I decided to do something different with my threads and link either the original TLP or, failing that, the oldest version of the page in the Internet Archive. I was inspired by Morgan Wick (who often brings these up in Trope Talk and TRS threads) and I figured they could provide some more context for trope issues.

for those interested.The thread closed with only Natural Elements being cleaned up because that was the only trope we did anything with. We didn't touch Elemental Powers because the consensus was to take no action with it. Thus, Short-Term Projects was the way to go since TRS's job was only to move wicks for Elements of Nature to Natural Elements without touching any other tropes.

That's fine. That just wasn't signaled in the actual thread itself. There was no call or mandate for it or even an acknowledgement that a short term project was the way to go, even after I mentioned the lingering issues, some of which was caused by the split [1] pushing what once was a thing Elemental Powers was used to cover to another trope. There just wasn't a discussion of next steps for people to act on, even if the logical next step was to do as I did on my own, i.e. take it to Short Term Projects.

While poking around in old Trope Talk discussions, I found this old Projects thread for cleaning up defunct tropes that are still in use. I want to give it a bump as I think it could be useful, but I don't have any actual current projects that I can remember.
Should I still bump it, or wait until I find a project?
(Asking here since this is technically TRS-related).

I think it fills in the same purpose as the Wick Cleaning Projects thread as both were originally started to clean out wicks from concluded TRS threads.

There was nothing mandated for Elemental Powers other than trimming the description; cleaning up examples wasn't part of the decision.

I closed the thread you brought up because the Rename/Transplant one was older, used more, and has a sandbox attached to it. I also renamed the latter thread to Wick Cleaning Projects thread to match Wick Cleaning Projects
Yes. That's why I took it to STP and advertised the thread here. Again, I have no issue with the work being moved over to STP if that's the best place to do what needs to be done next. As I said, there was just no discussion that indicated that's what needed to happen or redirected TRS effort that way to finish the job. Natural Elements was both a split of Elemental Powers and a rework of Elements of Nature. The EON work was finished, but the EP work wasn't. We don't typically have a separate "wick cleaning" crowner for split tropes; it's often just understood that if we're moving some of Trope X's definition to new Trope Y that we need to go over Trope X's examples (on page and off) to move any over that fit the split off portion and no longer fits Trope X's narrowed def as Twiddler began doing in the thread.

Hello, I've been considering sending Country Matters to TRS on the basis that it's essentially People Use the Word "Cunt", and was just curious if this has come up before before doing a wick check. In my opinion the text of the trope page (referring to the different usage of the word across English-speaking countries) seems more suited to Useful Notes.
