Inspired by this thread, I've noticed that this wiki doesn't have a dedicated cleanup thread for negativity.
As we all know, Complaining About Shows You Don't Like, Creator Bashing and other negativity isn't desired on the wiki, except in a few selected areas like reviews and several Darth Wiki pages (and even then, with limitations). And yet, it's one of the most common sins wiki contributors can make.
So, if you find a page, TLP or discussion whose content seems like a straight-up insult or any other bitching - including complainy soapboxing -, you might ask here for help with removing said content.
The sandbox for this project is located at Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining.

the exploitation part can definitely go, hooly shit.
Stan GaruKaru for clear skinFor YMMV.Plants Vs Zombies, I noticed that there's a high amount of complaining regarding Plants vs. Zombies 3: Welcome to Zomburbia. The game isn't as well recieved as the previous installments but from the way it's worded in entries like Audience-Alienating Era just feels like nothing but a long paragraph about a game that hasn't even officially released yet (it's still in beta)
- Audience-Alienating Era:
- However, the real dark age came with the many betas of Plants vs. Zombies 3 being released. The series’ fanbase absolutely hated PvZ3 for regressing further into mobile game, microtransaction-riddled Freemium junk. With a controversial new artstyle, dumbed down gameplay, and attempts to mimic Gardenscapes of all things. So, the devs scrapped it and made a new beta of PvZ3, closer in line with the original games. It was seen as a step in the right direction, but still had many hated elements. Short levels that were either too mind-numbingly easy or too unfairly hard, too many tutorials instead of letting the player learn by themselves, an unneeded power-up system that was even worse than PvZ2’s, a dreaded lives system, lack of replayability, even more mobile game-esque elements being added in, the removal of Plant Food, and the removal of choice from no longer being able to choose your plants. On top of all of that, none of the betas to come after addressed the game’s problems or took the critique from the fans into account, despite the fact that the devs said they’d be listening to player feedback. When this was revealed to essentially be a final version of the game, after a grand total of 4 open betas dedicated to just this version and 5 open betas overall, it’s safe to say that the hardcore fans were furious and heartbroken at the news, and worried for the series’ seemingly darker future.
- They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: The franchise’s main problem and most common criticism in its later years, starting in 2019 with Battle For Neighborville and Plants Vs. Zombies 3: Welcome to Zomburbia. Refer to the Audience-Alienating Era entry above for more info. (Doesn't elaborate and instead directs to another trope which isn't allowed anyway)

FWIW, Audience-Alienating Era is NREP. To my knowledge, it's not been 5 years.

"As long as I have my comrades with me, I can do anything!" (She/Her) (Current Focus: Cleaning Hell Is That Noise misuse)Found this entry on YMMV.The Thrawn Trilogy:
- Never Live It Down: Luuke Skywalker. A silly name for an ultimately very minor character (he has one real scene and never speaks) but from the way many EU detractors speak of him, you'd swear he was the Big Bad of the entire Legends continuity who spoke entirely in terrible one-liners and tasteless rape jokes as he did everything in his power to ruin Star Wars.
A minor thing, maybe, but still sounds like it's trying way too hard. Any objections to me rewriting it to be less over-the-top?
It does not matter who I am. What matters is, who will you become? - motto of Omsk BirdBest to just cut it.
Never Live it Down is for characters who do a lot of things, but they are known for one (embarassing) thing.
Luuke only did one thing. He just doesn't count by what the trope is for.
Also glancing through that YMMV, those Narm and Narm Charm entries can go too, because they're not talking about specific moments and are complaining about things that are both too specific (the clones have silly names), and too general (Thrawn gets shilled a lot, apparently).
Very good point. Have cut the Never Live It Down, will have a look at if any of the others are salvageable.
It does not matter who I am. What matters is, who will you become? - motto of Omsk BirdThese entries on Memes. The Angry Video Game Nerd seem a bit like Creator Bashing:
- No Time, Muh Kids, 5:40, Assholeish-variety, and Bimmy. Explanation
- Mowden and Fowden. Explanation
Yeah, I say zap them both.
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300The page for Milli Vanilli is an absolute mess. It's mostly troping the real-life scandal involving them and not their music. It really needs to be cleaned-up or zapped entirely.
I took care of removing some of the NRLEP entries from the page.
He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.I found this on YMMV.Marvels Spider Man 2

Is this complaining because I am unsure?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadTried my hand at rewriting the Splatoon 3 entries I mentioned above. I cut away the speculation and removed the paragraph about Cuttlefish and Agent 3 as I couldn't find any way of rewriting it without sounding complainy.
- At launch, fans of Off the Hook were disappointed to learn that the duo only appeared as vocalists for the in-universe band Damp Socks, before returning for the Side Order DLC campaign. However, they ironically aren't that much more Out of Focus than they were in their Splatoon 2 debut, where they were also uninvolved in the game's main campaign only to eventually serve as major characters in Octo Expansion. The main difference is that in Splatoon 2, they were the news hosts and thus still got some ample screen time whenever players booted up the game and during Splatfests, so fans of the characters had little to complain about. With that position now taken by Deep Cut, Off the Hook were relegated to appearing on a Sunken Scroll and when their amiibo were scanned before Side Order.
- Splatoon 3 isn't the first Nintendo game to split its Downloadable Content into waves and save the bigger, more exciting content for the end of its life cycle: Super Smash Bros. 4 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate released each added character several months apart, Mario Kart 8note split its DLC into packs of two cups each, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild did much the same with its Master Trials and Champions' Ballad campaigns. This drew little to no controversy because while the earlier waves were usually lower-key, they were still engaging in their own right and kept to a timely release schedule. With Splatoon 3, though, the DLC was advertised as focusing on Off the Hook before the game released, and many fans were let down when it was announced that Side Order was the second wave of two and had no set release date until January 2024. The first wave being Inkopolis Plaza as an alternate Hub World was criticized as filler, particularly because unlike Side Order, it came out shortly after its announcement.
i dont think its complainy enough to be cut on those grounds.
Howevet it does sound a bit too niche to count as a meme.

Stan GaruKaru for clear skinHmm. Good point. It doesn't seem widespread enough from my research.

- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Began as a saner, more mature counterpart to Grey's Anatomy, only to gradually sink to levels of hysteria even Grey's would deem garish. One could say it started as Grey's Anatomy on antidepressants, and ended as Grey's Anatomy on a cocktail of Meth and Bath Salts.
Cut, this is also ZCE.
I'm back!YMMV.Plants Vs Zombies is starting to attract complaints about later installments in the franchise and their changes from past ones, specially Plants vs. Zombies 3: Welcome to Zomburbia.
he/himIn that case, it might be worth adding to the sandbox.

I brought this up on The Scrappy thread, but decided to bring some of the entries here as they technically aren't scrappy tropes.
- Award Snub: In terms of the MTV Movie Awards's infamous Best Onscreen Dirtbag category in 2012 — which looked to be centered more on antagonistic bullies or instigators rather than straightforward villains — Oliver Cooper as Costa — a Jerkass hedonist — is a more appropriate pick than either Jennifer Aniston for Horrible Bosses who won — playing a sexual extortionist — or Bryce Dallas Howard for The Help — playing a racist and malicious debutante who was actually way more suited for an actual Best Villain nomination.
- Catharsis Factor: The midget giving Costa a Groin Attack and Thomas slamming Costa into the front car seat are both considered to be the most satisfying moments in the film.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: The dwarf is the most liked character in the movie, mostly because he punches many people, including Costa, in the testicles after he gets out of the oven in which he was imprisoned.
- Jerks Are Worse Than Villains: Costa is utterly despised by viewers for his repugnant nature, being bigoted, amoral, and responsible for numerous problems. Compare that to T-Rick, an Ax-Crazy drug dealer who goes as far as purposely setting the entire neighborhood on fire out of pure spite. It also helps that the latter ends up getting arrested, whereas the former ends up avoiding punishment.
- Love to Hate: The midget, who repeatedly Groin Attacks people for no reason, is quite memorable among viewers. It also helps that Costa is one of his victims.
These are written as if Costa is a widely hated character. The thing is, while Costa is hated by the movie's critics, he's well liked by the fanbase. I can see some entries being rewritten to emphasize that those are the opinions of the movie's critics, but I feel like entries like Jerks Are Worse Than Villains should go. What do you guys think?
Granted according to the actor Oliver Cooper himself, he said: "There are probably more people that hated me." when referring to his character in the movie. He made an entire campaign for the "Best Onscreen Dirtbag" award because he knew how his character was recieved.
I'm not denying that a lot of people hate Costa. However, the core fanbase of the movie seems to like the character. The problem is that these examples are written as if hating Costa is the default opinion when that isn't the case. For instance, the Catharsis Factor entry could easily be written to:
- Catharsis Factor: To those that dislike Costa, seeing him get punched in the testicles by the midget is very satisfying.
In YMMV.Starship Troopers, for the film and under Fan-Preferred Couple:
- In the DVD Commentary, Paul Verhoeven says fans wanted Carmen to die and Johnny to end up with Dizzy. Considering that in the original book Dizzy is male and Johnny and Carmen have at most a one-night stand together, this wouldn't have been such a bad change compared to most of the rest of the changes Verhoeven actually did make.

"The only thing which is certain, is that something will happen".
So I was looking through YMMV.Splatoon 3 and noticed that a lot of entries have complaints about Off The Hook's minimal role in the base game and how long Side Order has taken. While the complaints are common enough in the fandom, the entries could probably be toned down a bit.
To clarify, here's two lengthy entries for Franchise Original Sin with a claim about the DLC exploiting fans of the characters for profit, and a baseless claim about Side Order being a Troubled Production.
With Splatoon 3, though, the DLC was advertised as focusing on the beloved Off the Hook duo before the game released, so that's what everyone was expecting — and many fans were let down when it was revealed that not only were Pearl and Marina outright Demoted to Extra unless you paid extra money on top of the $80 for the game and Nintendo Switch Online, Side Order was the second wave of two and had no set release date. The first DLC wave, Inkopolis Plaza, was a content-anemic alternate Hub World that is widely considered disappointing filler. What's more, while Inkopolis Plaza released just a few weeks after the DLC's announcement, Side Order wouldn't be released until February 2024 — almost a full year after Wave 1, with exactly one major gameplay trailer released in the interim —showing all the signs of a Troubled Production and leaving those interested in a new story mode, those craving new Splatoon lore, and those just desperate for more Off the Hook unhappy.
