This thread is for general discussion of page quotes, whether to change, move or remove them.
Unused quotes should be put on a Quotes Wiki page (just replace the namespace in the URL of the wiki page you are making a quotes page for with Quotes/) or, if they don't have an article, on Quotes Looking for an Article.
Image captions are discussed elsewhere and have their own thread in the Image Pickin' forum.

Achievements in Ignorance has two quotes. Which should go?
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportFirst one. It expresses the trope better.
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettShould a page quote control a You Tube link? The page quote for Good Cannot Comprehend Evil has one, and my instinct is to remove it, but I wanted to check before I did so.
Ideally I'd like to be able to quote in the edit reason an administrivia page, if there is one, explaining why that's a no-no. But I'm not sure where to find it. The search for one is what brought me to the thread though so I figured I might be able to get a point in the right direction
So, considering Detail-Hogging Cover lost a Platypus Comix quote that sounded too much like complaining, should the CinemaSins quote on Vanity Plate also go?
- Vanity Plate: No, that isn't merely complaining. That's being sarcastic and making a joke while complaining. I think it's fine. Moreover, it is not speculative like the Detail-Hogging Cover quote. There really are that many seconds of logos that are being complained about as opposed to someone making an informed guess as though they're an expert with a bunch of citations or something.
- Achievements in Ignorance: Agreed, though it's already been taken care of.
- Good Cannot Comprehend Evil: If we're not supposed to pothole anything in the quote, then we shouldn't link anything either. It's the same principle.
It was still a pothole, just an external one.
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettQuoting my ATT query:
And the reply I got:
Yeah, I can think of two reasons to take that out:
- If cannot confirm, deny. (Simply because this is a quotation we're talking about rather than some other thing on the wiki that may have an easier time at getting benefit of the doubt.)
- It's not quite the same principle as "no potholes," but it still requires reader input to figure out what's goin' on, so to speak. Rather than hovering your cursor over the link, though, you have to click on it.
Okay, done.
There's two quotes on John Green.
The first one is attributed vaguely to "fans". I prefer the second quote anyway.
In either case, nuke all the potholes. Argh, that is bad!
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry Pratchettwas looking at a fanfic page for South of Oz and noticed it provides the page quote for Cue the Flying Pigs. Upon checking said page out I noticed said quote has a spoiler tag in it and the troper who replaced the original quote curates the Oz page pretty faithfully.
The original quote was:
The new quote is:
Is it kosher to change a page quote without asking? And should it be changed back?
The Protomen enhanced my life.General consensus is you can add the first quote unilaterally, but to change it you come here. It's been a long while since it's been openly discussed, though.
I say revert to the former quote.
And page top quotes don't get potholes, sinkholes, or spoilers.
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettAren't sinkholes forbidden everywhere, sort of by definition?
Maybe not the forums.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.I brought up in Ask The Tropers that Stray Shots Strike Nothing and Arbitrary Maximum Range have the same quote. Do we want to replace one of them with something else?
Setting aside the length issue, I think it's a better fit for Stray Shots Strike Nothing. Not sure what to replace the Arbitrary Maximum Range quote with, so I suppose we can pull it for now.

Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)The page quote on Role-Ending Misdemeanor doesn't make sense to me. It was added by johnnyfog, but the fact that I can't make sense of it in relation to illustrating the trope brought me here.
Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyIt requires a slight bit of popculture osmosis to get - I've never watched Friends, but I know the character Joey plays a doctor on a Show Within a Show, so the idea from the quote and the title of the episode is that the writers killed his character in retaliation for Joey belittling them.
That said, I don't think it works, and anyway Word of Mod is that johnnyfog's stuff is supposed to be cut on principle. Chop it.
I saw that episode. I would count it as a snub, but not a misdemeanor.
Unfortunately, the quotes on the Quotes page are kind of long, and the one down in the examples from Cheers doesn't seem to fit either.
Way, on sinkholes: there's been a lot of people who argue "you didn't tell me that", that no one said the rule applied to this specific thing, or argue their way is better even if it violates the rules. I'm the type that likes to get out in front of those, before they appear. Plus it can help newbies to list out specifics.

Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettI cut the quote. If there's a "cut on principle" thing, plus a "this is confusing" thing, plus a "that's not exactly an example" thing, I think it's safe to cut. Not sure what to replace it with.
What about...:

Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyThe page quote on Playing Against Type was originally added by Johnnyfog, I wanna replace it with one of the quotes on the quotes sub-page, but I'm not sure which one to use:
- —Film Brain, Bad Movie Beatdown: Awake
Jeter: If I have, it's not the type of character I'm playing in this film because usually I'm the very sympathetic good guy. So this is a bit different, and a bit more fun, I think.
- —Michael Jeter being interviewed on being Norm Snively
The Ebert quote seems good. I don't think the first sentence there is necessary.
Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyI found another quote from johnnyfog, but it's on Quotes.Sequel Gap. It's complaining about Fuller House and I'd normally cut it, but the page would be left completely blank if I did that. The main quote on Sequel Gap works fine and can stay as it is, but can anyone think of some quotes to add for the quote page so I don't have to put it on the cutlist?
Here's the quote I'm talking about:

Are there any quotes down in the examples that could be used?
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettCould someone please fix the quote on Guardians of the Galaxy (2015), to show who exactly says it?
Crown Description:
What should be the page quote for Monster.Fan Works?
So, considering Detail-Hogging Cover lost a Platypus Comix quote that sounded too much like complaining, should the CinemaSins quote on Vanity Plate also go?
