"SEGA!"
The T. Rex , right at the beginning of the game.

One of the many Jurassic Park games released for the 16-Bit Era. This one is a Platform Game for the Sega Genesis.

Developed by Blue Sky Software (Developers of Vectorman), In this game players have the choice to take control of either Dr. Alan Grant or the Velociraptor, each of them with their own unique controls and skills, and they tackle platform stages on their own story campaigns. Grant can utilize weapons while the Raptor can pounce on foes.

Grant's story mirrors that of the movie. The power has been knocked out at the park, and after barely escaping the T. Rex, he now has to survive the numerous dangers and loose dinosaurs on the island. Meanwhile the Raptor's mission is to escape the island and move to the mainland, where it can be free to wreak havoc. At the end both characters meet up for a final showdown at the Visitors' Center.

The game boasts exciting and recognizable sounds from the film, and motion-captured sprites, which at the time was in its infancy in 1993.

This game is not to be confused with the Master System, Sega CD, or the Arcade version, which are completely different games that have no relation with this one.

The game was followed up by Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition.

This game contains examples of:

  • Another Side, Another Story: Both Grant and the Raptor's missions play out at the same time. Both of them are seeking a way off the island, and only one will succeed in the respective campaigns.
  • Conspicuous Electric Obstacle: Power Plant stage has timing-based electric hazards in form of node paits with electric current flowing through them, and electrified nets.
  • Dead Hat Shot: If Grant gets eaten by the T. Rex , the only thing left of him is his hat floating down to the ground.
  • Digitized Sprites: Grant was portrayed by a human actor who was filmed making poses against a screen Mortal Kombat (1992)-style, while the dinosaurs (mainly the T. Rex) were toys captured the same way.
  • Dueling Player Characters: Depending on who you play as, you will face your counterpart in the final battle.
  • Eating the Enemy: The raptor can devour compys with a certain attack. It actually regains a little health when doing so.
  • Falling Damage: Grant hurts himself a little bit when falling down ledges.
  • Final Boss: Grant fights a pack of raptors, while the Raptor fights Grant in the Visitors' Center.
  • Goomba Stomp: The Raptor can jump on enemies which instantly kills them. Other attacks, such as the bite, aren't as powerful as the pounce.
  • Jungle Japes: The first level takes place in the Jungle.
  • Lethal Lava Land: The Volcano is a Grant-exclusive level. Grant has to get through an underground magma cave.
  • Life Meter: Your player character has a set of three different life bars each representing a "life". You get a Game Over when you deplete all three, and you have no continues.
  • Logo Joke: The T. Rex roars the Sega Logo at the beginning of the game.
  • Non-Lethal K.O.: Most of Grant's weapons only stun dinos or knock them unconscious. If you stick around long enough, they will get back up.
  • One-Hit Kill:
    • Rolling Cogwells in the Pump Station will flatten Grant for an instant-kill.
    • Getting too close to T. Rex results in Grant being Swallowed Whole, leaving behind only his hat fluttering in the wind.
  • Password Save: There are no continues in the game, and the only way to pick up from your previous spot after a Game Over is to enter the password.
  • Power-Up Food: The Raptor can feed on scraps of meat to restore some of his health.
  • Purposely Overpowered: The Raptor is practically unstoppable compared to Grant. Grant's effectiveness is literally dependent on the finite ammo he's got for each weapon he has while some dinosaur enemies are only vulnerable to one kind of weapon or take up more ammo than necessary (plus they're only temporarily knocked out rather than killed). The Raptor on the other hand has three infinite attacks and can instantly kill human enemies permanently, with only jumping over Bottomless Pits being the biggest obstacle. Not surprisingly, the Raptor has 5 levels while Grant has 7 levels.
  • Raptor Attack: You can play as the Velociraptor.
  • Terrifying Tyrannosaur: Grant's story begins with the T. Rex breaking out of its paddock during a nighttime thunderstorm, grabbing Grant's jeep with its jaws, and throwing him into the wilderness of Jurassic Park. As Grant tries to make his way to the Visitor Center, he is repeatedly ambushed by the T. Rex, which smashes through walls and attempts to eat the paleontologist. There are no means for Grant to permanently defeat the T. Rex; at best, he can only temporarily stun it to get pass.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: Using a fully charged Taser blast or a rocket on a compy suitably vaporizes the poor little thing, with unique animations for each.
  • Roaring Rapids: The river stage, a Grant-exclusive level where he rides a motorized raft down the stream.
  • Steam Vent Obstacle: There is a level with two types of damaging steam: Smaller steam puffs turn on and off periodically while larger ones need to be turned off using valves.
  • Toxic Dinosaur: The green Dilophosaurus attacks by opening its red frill and shooting a stream of green venom at the player character.
  • Villain Protagonist: The Raptor has its own plans. You can play its campaign to help it escape the island.
