Trivia / The Life and Times of Juniper Lee

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • Kath Soucie voices both Ray Ray and Ashley; their voices are very similar.
    • Jody, her mother, and her sister are all voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessey.
    • Ophelia and her mother are both voiced by Candi Milo, who also voices June's mother and the teacher Mrs. Gomez.
    • Roger and his mother are both voiced by Tara Strong, who also voices Lila and Melissa.
  • The Cast Show Off: This show really put Lara Jill Miller through her paces, in both shouting tone and singing.
  • Cross-Dressing Voices:
    • Ray-Ray is voiced by Kath Soucie. It also happened in the Brazilian dub, in which he was voiced by Fernanda Crispim, who's the Brazilian voice of Lana Lang in Smallville and Fiona in Shrek.
    • Roger is voiced by Tara Strong.
  • Dueling Shows: With American Dragon: Jake Long. Young American kid of Chinese decent? Inherits the mystical mantle of a wise Old Master grandparent and gains supernatural powers which skipped a generation? An Annoying Younger Sibling with similar abilities and a magical talking pug dog? Tasked with protecting and mediating the Masquerade between the human and magic worlds? The collective unconscious at work, ladies and gentlemen.
  • Fake Nationality:
    • Every member of June’s immediate family, including June herself, is a Chinese-American character played by an actor of non-Asian ancestry with Jasmine being the sole exception. Even then, Jasmine's voice actress Amy Hill is Japanese instead of Chinese. However, June's Uncle Eddie in the episode "Party Monsters" avoids this as he is voiced by Chinese-American actor James Hong.
    • Monroe is a Scottish Pug voiced by Argentinian-American Carlos Alazraqui, while his dad is voiced by English actor Martin Jarvis.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: The Easter special "June's Egg-cellent Adventure: Juniper Lee Meets the Easter Bunny" was, for some reason, never released to the Boomerang streaming service (and by extension VRV) like the rest of the series; or by extension ANY digital service when it was available. This means the only way to watch it is if you copied it back in 2006... or... other more illicit means.... It is also the only episode completely unavailable in its intended widescreen format.
  • Missing Episode: The Easter special was never made available on any digital store or the Boomerang streaming service. As such, it is the only episode unavailable in its intended HD Widescreen format.
  • The Other Darrin: Jeff the Leprechaun is voiced by Billy West in It’s My Party and I’ll Whine if I Want To and Carlos Alazraqui in Dog Show Afternoon.
  • Playing Against Type: Lara Jill Miller voices the main character. Unlike other roles she had at the time, namely the soft spoken and polite Kari Kamiya, Juniper is a more aggressive and snarky fighter.
  • Quietly Cancelled: The show lasted three seasons, but near the end of the third, the show's final episodes got shuffled onto CN's online service and its finale left open-ended, leaving on an And the Adventure Continues bit as it seems the staff weren't confident that they were going to get another season. The series was never confirmed cancelled but its creator Judd Winick had gone back to writing comic books not long after the show ended, which was pretty much as good a sign the show wouldn't continue.
  • Recycled Script: Winick used at least one Barry Ween story for a Juniper Lee episode, doing little more than substituting a magic potion for Applied Phlebotinum, a kid brother for a best friend, and adding a talking dog.
  • Saved from Development Hell: The reason why it's wrongly accused of ripping off American Dragon: Jake Long. Development was in mid-production and stalled a few times when American Dragon hit the airwaves. By the time it premiered, there was nothing the staff could do about the comparisons other than just go on as planned.
  • Screwed by the Network: No sooner had the show hit its second season, CN began to lose interest in it; they barely advertised new episode before just neglecting to do so altogether, despite playing them on Fridays the following season. The last two episodes didn't even make it to the airwaves, instead being shown on CN's video service before they too were pulled off.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • A lot of things in the show were set up to be explored later. Examples include how they were gonna get June free of the barrier that was keeping her within the Orchid Bay, Ray Ray's dormant magical powers, more focus on Lila's and Dennis' role in helping, and Jody becoming curious about the books in June's room and spotting June leaping on the rooftops in the last episode. As well, more villains like Jean-Claude, Kai Yee, and H.A.M. were set for more appearances.
    • Supposedly, a Season 1 DVD set was planned for an early 2009 release, only for it to never see the light of day. Season 1 would eventually be released on DVD in 2013, but in Australia, and the set is region locked.
