Wick Check input (150 examples)

  1. YMMV.Fire Emblem Heroes: Memetic Molester: The fanbase tends to portray Wrys as a Dirty Old Man who tries to sexually assault the younger looking characters, with some of the Manaketes being popular targets of his "affections" (specifically Young Tiki, Fae, and Nowi, who are prepubescent in dragon years). This makes Wrys running an orphanage in the endings of his games either Harsher in Hindsight or Hilarious in Hindsight! Zephiel gets a lot of this for his obsession with (fire) dragons being amped up by the fandom to the point where it's common to see him "protecting" or "collecting" young manaketes such as Fae or Tiki. Sometimes even the more adult manaketes too, such as Ninian and adult Tiki. Other times, his wish of humanity being ruled by dragons is amped to desperately want to be sexually dominated by female Grima or Idunn. This is a fan exaggeration, as in canon, Zephiel's sympathy doesn't extend to the human-loving Divine Dragons, sending war dragons to invade Fae's village.
  2. YMMV.An American Tail Fievel Goes West: Though he didn't die for a few more years, this was Jimmy Stewart's final role, and the ending includes his character, Wylie Burp, walking off into the sunset, with Fievel following. Not only that, but his final lines have some subtle self-projection about his twilight years: Wylie Burp: One man’s sunset is another man’s dawn. I don’t know what’s out there beyond those hills; but if you ride yonder, head up, eyes steady, heart open, I think one day you’ll find you’re the hero you’ve been looking for.
  3. YMMV.Sluggy Freelance: The Steve Irwin Captain Ersatz "The Demon Hunter" gets stabbed in the chest with a nautically-themed spear. Could also qualify as Crosses the Line Twice, as it does happen a second time, when his assistant/wife betrays him. Needless to say, these strips ran years before Irwin's real life death in a disturbingly similar manner. The gag week where UN weapons inspectors are incapable of finding Bert living in the house was based on then-current events: the UN's inspectors in Iraq had reported that Saddam had no WMDs. This sounded pretty unlikely at the time and the inspectors were widely mocked. After the war, though, this gag week got a lot less funny when America didn't find WMDs either.
  4. YMMV.Family Guy S 12 E 6 Life Of Brian: That silly joke of Mayor West pouting that no one came to his funeral and then passing through the crowd of mourners as a spirit would really ring sour just a few year later after Adam West passed... and made a few brief posthumous returns to the series as a real ghost. Similar to BBC Three in the UK airing "Viewer Mail #2" when news of Robin Williams's death broke out, ITV2 (another UK TV channel) scheduled an airing of this episode on September 8, 2022... which ended up being the day Elizabeth II died.
  5. YMMV.Friday Night Funkin Logic: Senpai and Monika becoming a couple here ended up being this as of the Takeover update to Monika Full Week, which shows through the Story Mode cutscenes that Monika is only interested in the player. Even more so with the Plus update, which has an additional song making it even more clear that she isn't interested in Senpai.
  6. HilariousInHindsight.Video Games: A reversed instance of this (for the audience; for the characters, it's played straight) occurs in Case 5-4. The Judge asks about the bomb transport case, a crucial piece of evidence in 5-1 and 5-4, and Blackquill jokingly tells him that it's his coffin. One of the final revelations of 5-1 is that the body of the murdered detective, Candice Arme, was hidden inside the transport case during the very trial Blackquill made the joke in. Of course, none of them knew this at the time.
  7. YMMV.Birds Of A Feather S 6 E 1 Not In My Back Yard: Princess Diana being referred to as "the future Queen of England" becomes this after her tragic death.
  8. YMMV.Holby City: Rosie Marcel suffered a miscarriage a few days after filming scenes where Jac gave birth. Though making it slightly better is that she did successfully give birth a few years later.
  9. YMMV.Miraculous Ladybug S 04 E 05 Psycomedian: Ladybug and Cat Noir's teamwork is at its peak in this episode, with Cat Noir taking charge when Ladybug is affected by Psycomedian's power, and showing that he can plan and strategize just as well as she can. Subsequent episodes see Ladybug relying less on Cat Noir, sidelining him in favor of the other temporary holders and refusing to trust him with more responsibilities. Su-Han's appearance in "Furious Fu" further adds to the rift growing between the two heroes by driving Marinette's responsibilities as the Guardian (and the associated stress) up to eleven.
  10. YMMV.Fantasy Blitzkrieg: Karin Muyoka was an OC from Boundless World of Danmaku that Lt Colonel Summers borrowed for Fantasy Blitzkrieg with permission from Terry N Muse. But in Operation Alexandria, she only appeared for two chapters before getting unceremoniously dropped from the story due to Omega E not having permission from Terry. In December 2020, Boundless was deleted from Fanfiction Dot Net, thus making Fantasy Blitzkrieg and Operation Alexandria the only evidence of her existence left in the whole world wide web, and these two depictions of her have little to no characterization...
  11. YMMV.Airwolf: The episode "Firestorm", especially the end, considering Jan-Michael Vincent's own problems with alcoholism. Speaking of Vincent, he himself would tragically end up a lot like Briggs later in life - a multitude of car crashes lost him the use of one eye plus his legs, one of which ended up being amputated. The helicopter itself: after the show ended, it was refurbished as a flying ambulance and eventually crashed into a mountain. In "Echoes of the Past" the villains are attempting to make Hawke think he's been in a coma for eight and a half months, and as part of the ruse they create a series of fake newspapers and television reports. One of the big stories on their fake news is about Princess Diana and Prince Charles getting divorced... 11 years later the two DID get divorced, following Charles' affair with Camilla Parker Bowles.
  12. YMMV.Monty Pythons Life Of Brian: The entire "I want to have babies" scene, while not perfect, was seen as Fair for Its Day in terms of representing a transgender woman. However, John Cleese would make several transphobic tweets in late 2020, which can make a positive interpretation of that scene harder to swallow, especially since Cleese's character was the one most opposed to Loretta's transition.
  13. YMMV.Amy Winehouse: "They tried to make me go to rehab; I said no, no, no." At first it was harsh due to her continued drug and alcohol problems after the song became a hit, then she died...
  14. YMMV.Is The Order A Rabbit: In vol. 10 ch. 4, Chino wails at her grandfather, "Don't say things like 'You don't need me anymore' that make it sound like you're going to disappear!" A mere twenty-two chapters later, after Chino finally says what he needs to hear, he ascends to Heaven in the middle of the night without saying a word to anybody, which utterly devastates Chino. Chapter 136 ends with Chino and her grandfather debating whether she should continue to run Rabbit House the way he ran it, or spread her wings and find a way to run it that makes her happy. He ends the chapter by saying, "Maybe we'll find out soon enough." When Chino finally answers that question in chapter 145, it becomes the trigger for his ascension to heaven.
  15. YMMV.Top Of The Pops: In Autumn 2012, about a year after his death, a massive Scotland Yard investigation confirmed that Jimmy Savile was a real-life Depraved Kids' Show Host — specifically, a serial sex offender who abused youths who appeared on this show — which effectively makes all of the episodes he presented this. That said, the scandal has affected many more people than just Savile — Dave Lee Travis (another former presenter of the show) was also arrested in connection with various sex offences, for example. (Travis was eventually found not guilty on 12 out of 14 counts against him; he was subsequently found guilty of at least one count of indecent assault as of 23rd August 2014, though cleared of another and on a third the jury were still undecided.)
  16. YMMV.The Worlds Finest Assassin: Episode 7 involves a recently deceased DJ reincarnated in another world. Not long after, rapper Young Dolph was shot and killed in Memphis.
  17. Characters.Big Brother 15: Snark-to-Snark Combat: With Elissa. They engage in funny, light hearted and snarky-filled banter until Elissa left
  18. TearJerker.Prince: The six-minute "Sometimes It Snows in April" from Parade, stripped to nothing more than acoustic guitar, piano and vocals. It just got worse once Prince died... in April. Even worse. "Sometimes It Snows in April" was released on April 21, 1986. He would unfortunately die exactly 30 years later on April 21, 2016. To add more fuel to the sad fire? The song (in the context of the film Under the Cherry Moon) focused on the narrator lamenting the death of his friend Christopher Tracy and how he'd see him someday in the next life. In the film, the titular Tracy was played by Prince, which the song more or less becoming about one (arguably the fans) lamenting Prince's own passing and wishing to see him in the next life.
  19. YMMV.Naked Lunch: The Divisionists are essentially the prototype of today's aggressive trolls.
  20. RuleOfSeven.Literature: This would have culminated with book 7 being released on 7/7/07, but the bomb attacks on London the year before put a damper on that, so the publisher released it on the 21st (7+7+7) instead.
  21. YMMV.Spies Are Forever: A lot of the show falls into this category when you take the twist into account:Curt's decisions throughout the show are primarily based around what he thinks Owen would want him to do. At first, it's unclear exactly what The Deadliest Man Alive's seeming vendetta against Curt is about, especially since Curt is initially unaware of his existence and has been off-duty for four years. Watching it through a second time, the vendetta becomes outright heartbreaking. Curt's four-year Wangst over Owen (as well as his Beard of Sorrow), and everyone else's annoyance at it, becomes even harder to watch once you know that Curt was effectively grieving his boyfriend at a time when doing so publicly would have been illegal.
  22. YMMV.Barbie Life In The Dreamhouse: Grace's first episode, "New Girl in Town", ends with Barbie telling the viewers, "You can never have too many friends! It's science!" The writers must have realized otherwise, or else Grace would have had more than two episodes.
  23. YMMV.Morning Departure: Shortly after filming finished, the British submarine HMS Truculent sank after colliding with a freighter. There weren't many survivors. The film was released with the following message at the beginning: This film was completed before the tragic loss of HMS Truculent, and earnest consideration has been given as to the desirability of presenting it so soon after this grievous disaster. The Producers have decided to offer the film in the spirit in which it was made, as a tribute to the officers and men of H.M. Submarines, and to the Royal Navy of which they form a part.
  24. Awesome.Nintendo Capri Sun: He has beaten Contra with one life. Not to mention, he plays the game like he does it every morning. What makes it more awesome? The next time he plans to beat the game, his special guest? His Mom. Manly. And, in an awesome subversion of Harsher in Hindsight as his mother passed away before that could happen (especially on Memorial Day), Tim announced that he would play the first three Contra games released on Nintendo consoles in a stream in her honor and make it an annual tradition on Memorial Day from then on. NintendoCapriMom, we salute you!
  25. YMMV.Jumanji: At the end of the book, Judy and Peter's neighbor Mrs. Budwig laments that her sons, Danny and Walter, often start games without finishing — shortly before the boys take Jumanji from the park. In the Zathura book, the game indeed gets cut short, but not because the boys lose interest in it; instead a black hole sucks up Walter before he can finish bringing Danny back to Earth (although after the black hole sends Walter back to the ending of Jumanji, he convinces Danny not to bring the game home at all).
  26. YMMV.Men At Arms: With the rise in stories about police brutality and shooting innocent people in the 2010s (or depending on how cynical you are, the rise in means to record these things), the Gonne's effect on Vimes is even more chilling. Ditto the part about how a good person will just kill you. Vimes's prejudice towards the undead along with Cuddy and Detritus quickly turning into Boomerang Bigots behind the badge are largely played for laughs, but much less funny in light of current discussions about deeply ingrained racism in policing.
  27. YMMV.Angel S 01 E 08 I Will Remember You: Cordelia's joke that she's good for helping Angel rid the world of evil or "international superstardom" becomes much sadder once "Birthday" shows that she would have gotten her big break had she not met Angel in Los Angeles, and Angel would have been unable to cope without her. Unless that was all a lie to manipulate her. Angel offered to become a vampire again to The Powers That Be to protect Buffy from dying in battle. Cue Buffy season 5 finale, "The Gift"... The Mohra was sent to take a warrior from the cause. Angel realises this is not literal; the Mohra making him human so he can't fight evil. This becomes even sadder as of the next episode with Doyle's Heroic Sacrifice.
  28. YMMV.Angelina Ballerina: In "Angelina's Opera", Gracie and A.Z. are absent. This turned out to be the last episode, so they weren't in any others afterwards. What's even more harsher is that they had room for two other background characters dancing with the other main characters in the end scene, but not them.
  29. YMMV.Seven Years In Tibet: Jean-Jacques Annaud got a fifteen year ban from China for directing a movie portraying the Dalai Lama at all and presenting Chinese occupation of Tibet in bad light, while all films directed by him got black-listed by default, including Enemy at the Gates. His first film after the ban was lifted? Wolf Totem, a French-Chinese co-production which created a minor scandal for being a blatant propaganda piece for the Chinese government and white-washing of the Cultural Revolution.
  30. YMMV.The Walking Dead Season Two: Clementine threatening to reveal that Rebecca's baby may not be Alvin's. At the time it's a satisfying Take That! after Rebecca consistently treated Clem badly and suggested she be left to die. However, it's harder to do on subsequent playthroughs, when you realise the baby may be a result of Carver raping Rebecca. In the season 2 finale trailer, Sandra's line of "That's no way to say goodbye to your mother!" is this. Given, she does give a formal goodbye to her parents a moment later but it's not much better. "See you soon." Trying to get all the main characters in "400 Days" to leave with Tavia ends up making the bad endings being better choices as we find out they ended up working for Carver, the Big Bad of season 2.
  31. YMMV.Hustlers: A movie involving strippers drugging and robbing men is made worse after Cardi B (who is in the movie) faced a lot of backlash for admitting to doing similar things in the past when she was a stripper and justified it by saying that she had to do it to survive.

  33. YMMV.Dont Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood: Lexie Bigham, who played the driving instructor and bank robber Mr. Walker, died in a car accident shortly after the shooting of this film wrapped.
  34. YMMV.Bomberman 64: If the comments are any indication, the commercial takes on a new meaning in a post-9/11 world.
  35. YMMV.Sky High 2005: One of the crises Steve and Josie apparently have to deal with is supervillain infiltration of the IRS. Given that that agency would become mired in scandal in The New '10s, one wonders if they were onto something. In some of the promotional material, Warren was jokingly declared "Most Likely To Become A Villain""◊ in the Sky High yearbook. Then in the actual movie, it's revealed that Warren desperately wants to be a hero and live down his father's reputation. The next time Kurt Russell played the father of the protagonist in a Disney-owned superhero movie, he was the one who turned out to be the secretly evil Big Bad. The film has some noticeable similarities with My Hero Academia, even apart from being a school for superheroes, but the final arc of the latter shares a plot element with the climax of the former- the heroes trying to stop their school from falling out of the sky.
  36. YMMV.Poltergeist 1982: The subtle Running Gag of Dana being a bit of a tramp became harder to stomach when the actress was murdered by her ex-boyfriend only a few months later. The film focuses on Heather O'Rourke's character being trapped in a netherworld of ghosts. The actress would pass away at the age of twelve. A poster in the children's bedroom wall advertises the 1988 Superbowl. O'Rourke ended up dying on the day of the '88 Superbowl. The canary-burial scene's a lot grimmer when you consider that two of the three mourners will be dead in a few years.
  37. YMMV.L As Finest: Season 2, episode 9, "Kangaroo Jack" aired with the rest of the season in early September 2020. It has one character suggesting another go see Top Gun: Maverick which would have opened in theaters by that July. By the time the episode aired, Maverick (along with scores of movies) had its release date delayed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic (and would not be scheduled for release until May of 2022).
  38. YMMV.Black Mirror Playtest: Katie's statement: "I haven't killed anybody... yet."
  39. YMMV.Utoya 22 Juli: That the wounded girl dies without being able to say goodbye to her mother is sad enough. But then Kaja's death means no one will be able to tell the wounded girl's parents about their daughter's last moments.
  40. YMMV.All New X Men: Beast talking about the necessity of bringing the O5 into the present. This is because, in New Avengers, Beast knowing full well that the world is about to end, visits his younger self and confesses to him about having destroyed two worlds, basically asking if he could've done anything different. Young Beast simply asks, if he knew the world was going to end, why in the hell would he rob Young Beast of the life he could've led? It's a legitimate question.
  41. YMMV.Street Fighter V: F.A.N.G's winquote against Rashid becomes this when the Cinematic Story Mode reveals that he murdered Rashid's friend and ate her poisoned remains: F.A.N.G: "Want to know where your friend is? Try asking around in hell!" "A Shadow Falls" has a small moment where Ken is bonding with his son, which becomes a bit harder to look back at come the prequel comic of Street Fighter 6, where Ken and Mel's relationship has become strained due to Ken's commitments as a fighter and CEO left him with little time to bond with his son.
  42. Creator.Cow Chop: Shout-Out: In "ALEKS EPIC MILITARY GRADE STINK BOMB PRANK", Brett breaks down an entire bathroom door with his bare hands and roars "HERE'S BRETT!", all for a The Shining reference. Kinda a Harsher in Hindsight since this is the reason they were evicted.
  43. YMMV.Os Paralamas Do Sucesso: "Aonde Quer Que Eu Vá" was released one year prior to the plane accident of Herbert and his wife Lucy Needham Vianna, in which the latter didn't survive, making its lyrics become more heartbreaking than before. Some even believe the song was dedicated to her.
  44. Trivia.ABBA The Movie: He Also Did: Robert Hughes, who played Ashley, would later be also known for playing Martin Kelly, the dad on the Australian sitcom Hey Dad..!. Well, that, and a controversy on said show (see Harsher in Hindsight on the YMMV page). Tom Oliver, who had the triple role of playing ABBA's gruff bodyguard, a bartender on a dream sequence, and a chatty moustached taxi driver that Ashley meets, is best known for his long-running role as Lou Carpenter in the Australian soap opera Neighbours. The fitness trainer shown coaching Frida is Richard Norton, one of ABBA's real life bodyguards, who would later go on to have a acting career appearing on many action films, including the Chuck Norris film The Octagon.
  45. TearJerker. The Millennium Trilogy: Lisbeth's No Sympathy attitude towards Harriet; in response to Blomkvist's question about what she would have done in Harriet's shoes with a murderous father and brother, she says, "I would've killed the bastard!" Harsher in Hindsight when it turns out she and Harriet's histories are not so different, and Lisbeth tried to kill her father to protect her mother.
  46. YMMV.Sidemen: With the shocking news of Minecraft YouTuber LionMaker having a pedophilic relationship with a teenager, the joke of Vik being a pedophile is a bit sour in some's mouths. In "Sidemen React to Top 5 Karens", a video is featured where a woman calls the cops on a guy for repeatedly calling her "Karen". Josh's joke from the video about how the guy "could have murdered someone" is a lot less funny after the guy ended up murdering the woman's husband. "Sidemen Family Fortunes" is this in spades, given that Randolph jokingly calling Deji's channel "dead" ultimately led to the infamous and serious brother beef between Deji and JJ that ran for several months. In other words, a game of Family Feud led to an actual family feud.
  47. Trivia.Rambo III: Beam Me Up, Scotty!: Rambo says to the Big Bad, "Your worst nightmare," not "I'm your worst nightmare." A popular urban legend claims that the dedication at the end was originally "to the brave Mujahideen fighters of Afghanistan" before The War on Terror, when "brave Mujahideen fighters" was supposedly changed to "gallant people." In reality the dedication always said "gallant people," though the movie itself does glorify the Mujahideen to a degree that's become Harsher in Hindsight since 9/11.
  48. Funny.Dexter: Deb discovers pantyhose: Deb: Has anyone ever died from crotch asphyxiation? Dexter: You have now crossed the line into inappropriate brother-sister exchanges. Made either funnier or completely unfunny when Deb later has semi-incestuous thoughts about Dexter.
  49. YMMV.The Innocents: The whole film is essentially about Miles having a complicated relationship with his guardian. Martin Stephens confessed that he was pushed into acting by a Stage Mom - who wanted to live vicariously through him. Miles lacking a father figure is also quite sad when you learn that Martin Stephens rarely got to see his own father because he was always busy filming, and his mother was his chaperone. The father died of cancer when Martin was only ten, and his mother got rid of all pictures and things to associate with him. He admits that the climactic scene of Miles in the garden had him channelling some very real emotions.
  50. YMMV.Spill: Korey jokes in the Jackass 3D review that the cast is going to do something stupid enough to get them killed. Less than a year after the film's release, Ryan Dunn was killed while driving under influence.
  51. YMMV.The Weather Channel: The very first episode (as originally scheduled) of It Could Happen Tomorrow... which was titled "New Orleans Hurricane". It had been scheduled to air a month after the 2005 hurricane, and was eventually released as "Katrina: The Lost Episode".
  52. Recap.Doctor Who Magazine 337 The Land Of Happy Endings: Lighter and Softer: Serving as a deliberate contrast to the Doctor's typical adventures. The Doctor dreams of a world where villains are merely naughty, not evil; people never die, promises are never broken, and all endings are happy ones; the kind of world he'd like to live in. Then we remember everything that's going to happen in his future...
  53. YMMV.Drew Mc Intyre: His first WWE entrance song is titled "Broken Dreams". His first WWE run went from promising to abject failure.
  54. YMMV.Bolero: Bo Derek becoming an animal rights activist later in life can make the fact that her character Mac takes up bullfighting all the more ironic.
  55. TearJerker.Camp Camp: Party Pooper seems to be building up to Gwen snapping and letting her dad have it in absolute anger. Instead she ultimately just starts sobbing. And the reason she was acting so prickly around her dad? She thinks he's ashamed of her.And a Harsher in Hindsight one: the real life Missy has since passed away.
  56. YMMV.Scream 2022: Amber's line "You can't have a good Halloween without Jamie Lee!" became this after Neve Campbell announced that she wouldn't be returning for Scream VI due to a pay dispute. Fortunately, the film did well at the box office and received mostly positive reviews from fans. Amber and Richie choose to stalk, harass, and kill a bunch of people because they were upset at the direction the latest Stab film took, taking it as a personal insult to the fans of the series. Following the release of Halloween Ends, Rohan Campbell (who played newcomer Corey Cunningham) was harassed on social media for "ruining" a movie that changed the formula compared to previous films. Much like Rian Johnson's Stab, Ends was also met with a fandom campaign to have the film remade.
  57. YMMV.Kalush: The 2021 song "Dodomu" has been originally described as a nostalgic ode to the narrator's hometown that he grew up in, barely one year later, the song gained renewed attention during Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. This even be emphasized by the cover version of this song which dedicated to the children of temporarily occupied cities.
  58. YMMV.The Simpsons S 18 E 18 The Boys Of Bummer: If this episode was hard to watch back when it first aired, try watching it now after hearing about the number of reports of people committing suicide because of bullying as a desperate attempt to escape from the abuse. An earlier episode, "The Joy of Sect", shows Springfield being outright cruel towards a football team for losing a championship match, even going as far as to attack the players. This also leads to Fridge Horror where it's possible that, had Bart not attempted suicide, the entire town might've murdered him for the same reason as the football players.
  59. YMMV.Stickin Around: It's surprising how the episode "Return Your Seats to an Uptight Position", with its jokes about terrorists hijacking a plane, managed to re-air on Qubo.
  60. YMMV.Nightmares And Dreamscapes: The small town where something in the water in "The End of the Whole Mess" makes everyone peaceful is near Waco, Texas. A few years later "Waco" would become synonymous with the Branch Davidian cult, who were anything but peaceful. Try reading King's earlier piece, "Quitters Inc." after reading "The Ten O'Clock People." There's even some Fanon that the bat people run Quitters Inc.
  61. TearJerker.Demo Reel: Rebecca and Tacoma discussing how meaningless their work can seem at times and whether or not they should stop Demo Reel. Tacoma: It's nice to have a job where I can express myself, but then everyone hates it anyway. Why write if no one thinks you can write? Rebecca: (agreeing) Why act if no one thinks you can act? Not to mention Rebecca's mini-rant about how having talent means nothing in the industry, because the roles always go to prettier, younger actresses. The Reality Subtext makes it worse, this was half-improvised from Rachel's experiences as a model and aspiring actress. And just to make it Harsher in Hindsight, Demo Reel did indeed come to an end, because, while it had a fanbase, it wasn't big enough. For a fan of the show, it hits hard.
  62. YMMV.Heathers The Musical: Heather Duke's jab at Veronica's weight in Beautiful becomes this when Carrie Hope Fletcher, Veronica's actress in the The West End production of Heathers, reveals that she was harassed online for being "fat". Fortunately, Carrie knows she's at a healthy body weight and she and her fans rightfully called out these trolls.
  63. YMMV.Alien Covenant: Rick and Morty's promo for the film has Rick get attacked by a facehugger for a few seconds, only for it to succumb to the drugs and alcohol in his system. In the film itself, Lope apparently didn't have this excuse and still managed to get infected anyway.
  64. YMMV.Laurie Anderson: The lyrics of "O Superman" contain lines that, twenty years later, would seem to predict 9/11; a fact that was not lost on Anderson when she recorded a live version of the song in New York City only one week after the attacks.
  65. YMMV.Yu Me Dream: Fiona driving distractedly due to being distressed, with Jake frantically yelling at her that "Suicide is not the answer!" becomes one when it's revealed that Fiona was in a coma because she attempted vehicular suicide. Also in Part One, Jake sarcastically tells Lia, "I’m just pretending to be gay for all of the social benefits it brings," the joke being that so far in the comic, he’s caught nothing but flak for his homosexuality. In Part Two, it’s revealed that the actor who played Jake is actually a "straight douche" who won an Emmy Award for his role. The commentary on this page suggests that he primarily won the award because of the (mis)perception that it’s a huge challenge for a straight actor to play a gay character.
  66. YMMV.PCU: The sexual assault allegations and his blacklisting from mainstream productions on top of his controversial views made the opening scene of Tom—played by Jeremy Piven—being chased by people he unintentionally offended hard to look as of now.
  67. YMMV.Desu Des Brigade: The jokes about JO's busy schedule and Vixen wanting to leave/kill the Brigade get hard to laugh at after the disbandment. The Ex-Brigadiers' decision to keep the site alive past its expiration as "proof of the Brigade's existence and what they did all those years" feels like a moot point now that Blip has decided to remove pretty much every old thing made by their producers. This has led to the untimely deaths of "Pocky Spot" and "DesuRattle", two of the most loved segments from the Brigade. As of 2017: The site itself is gone, blip is gone taking most of their stuff with it, Professor and Arkada never mention the Brigade, and Vixen and JO actively tell fans not to reupload videos. Pretty much the only evidence the Brigade ever existed is this TV Tropes page. Worth noting that the crew are still friends, and Ark and Prof are often seen together at conventions.
  68. YMMV.Kim Possible S 1 E 14 October Thirty First: The fact that Ron gave Kim a hard time about lying to him to go to a Halloween Party falls flat after "All the News" when he used “yellow journalism” to fabricate a story about her going out with the high school quarterback, Brick Flagg.
  69. YMMV.Final Destination 1: Bludworth's ominous "I'll see you soon" as Alex and Clear leave the morgue. It was an Orphaned Reference to Alex originally sacrificing himself to save Clear but after the second movie where Alex died offscreen and Clear soon follows him it becomes even sadder. The plane disaster was already pretty horrifying when the film was released in 2000, but it has only gotten harder to watch after the following two decades saw several high-profile disasters involving planes, especially the September 11th terrorist attacks that happened just a year after the film's release. Alex's initial paranoia would be much more justified if the film was released today.
  70. Series.Sam And Cat: Lampshade Hanging: This bit from the pilot... Cat: We sort of have this whole fun odd couple dynamic. Built-in conflict. Lots of potential for more adventure. In "#FavoriteShow," Sam and Cat are watching TV, and... Sam: See, on TV, they're not allowed to use real Pear computers, so they replace the pears with a banana. Cat: That's so clever! Later on, their favorite show is canceled, and Cat cries over how insane it is for a network to cancel a big hit show without even giving it a proper finale, which is of course what happened to Victorious (and ''Sam and Cat' itself, as it turned out).
  71. Fridge.Denji Sentai Megaranger: At the end of episode 20, Kubota plays a rendition of Jeannie With A Light Brown Hair to celebrate Delta Mega's first fight. The song itself alludes to a permanent separation, which Kubota played to celebrate his engineer no longer under his controlling father's thumb. But Kubota's choice becomes Harsher in Hindsight eighteen episodes later when he meets his old friend, who became Dr. Hinelar and formally declared war on him as "Dies Irae" plays in the background.
  72. YMMV.Sonic Heroes: Heartwarming in Hindsight: One may not have expected Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022) to give this game anything but a few token nods, but the climax plays out like a homage to it. Team Sonic formed to take down Robotnik with the REAL SUPER POWER of TEAM WORK!, and they even use combination moves from this game. A very welcome inversion of the previously mentioned Harsher in Hindsight entry.
  73. YMMV.Street Fighter II: Chun-Li's stage can be as this for many reasons: When the game was released in 1991, China wasn't a very developed country, and one of the most famous stereotypes associated with the Chinese was almost all Chinese people ride bicycles, since they couldn't afford, or were not allowed to have, a car. Not only is this stereotype mostly a Dead Horse Trope outside rural towns, but China is suffering a serious case of environmental pollution because almost everyone is abandoning their traditional bicycles and using cars instead. This is one of the reasons many of Chun-Li's scenarios in later sequels stop showing them in order to show the more modern face of China. In Zangief's ending, Gorbachev claims that Zangief's victory has proved that "the Soviet spirit can overcome all obstacles." Just months after the game came out, the Soviet Union, still under Gorbachev, was dissolved.
  74. YMMV.Vince Russo: Though by no means the only example, the "Fire Russo" chants are most associated with the "Last Rites Match" between Sting and Abyss and the electrified steel cage match (Team 3D vs. LAX), despite him and Dixie Carter shifting the blame to Dutch Mantel. This was merely amusing until the injury and medical bill scandals of TNA came out, of which both Mantel and Russo were repeatedly sourced as key figures.
  75. YMMV.The Caligula Effect 2: The Extracurricular Affair questline is all part of Megumi Arata's plan to get into a romantic relationship with her teacher, and the end of the quest takes a humorous turn when Megumi's friend, who previously accused Takihara of sexually harassing her at Megumi's behest and retracted her claim when the plan reached fruition, decides to get payback against Megumi by stealing Takihara away from her. Sounds pretty hilarious, right? Not so much if you dive into Takihara's profile. He entered Redo because the last time he got into a relationship with a student it cost him his job. Small wonder he's so distressed by the whole ordeal.
  76. YMMV.Celebrity Deathmatch: In two separate matches, Al Gore kills "Weird Al" Yankovic, and Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale kills George W. Bush. In the 2000 Presidental Election, Bush defeated Gore (it's also Harsher in Hindsight if you voted for Gore and/or had no idea that George W. Bush actually would win). (Bush shows up alive in a later episode after the election.)
  77. Funny.Atop The Fourth Wall Live Shows: Linkara himself milks the Black Comedy and Harsher in Hindsight moments for all their worth, culminating with this: Linkara: Well, that joke fell like a turd. Like Gwen Stacy.
  78. YMMV.Farce Of The Penguins: Carl saying nobody would miss him if he got eaten by a killer whale becomes this after Bob Saget passed away a decade and a half after this movie came out.
  79. YMMV.The Kid 1921: The flirtatious angel in the Dreamland sequence was played by twelve-year old Lita Grey. She would later become Charlie Chaplin's second wife and have a very unhappy relationship culminating in a messy divorce.
  80. YMMV.Dynasty 1981: Adam's numerous homophobic comments towards Steven and others became even more cringe-inducing when Adam's actor Gordon Thomson came out of the closet in 2017, and frankly discussed the self-loathing he'd suffered from being a gay man in his generation.
  81. YMMV.Super Mario Galaxy: In a way, young Rosalina's offhand comment about growing into an old lady becomes somber when one remembers that she becomes The Ageless, and never gets to grow old with her original family.
  82. YMMV.Hot Wheels Acceleracers: In the Cliffside Realm short, Shirako's car get sabotaged by a drone, and if Shirako uses his Nitrox, his car will explode, killing him. 15 years later, Shirako's voice actor, Kirby Morrow, died in a car accident.
  83. TearJerker.Suburban Knights: In part five, Ma-Ti]sadly leaving for the Critic's coffee (which will come back to bite the Critic later). The depressing music and the way he just opens the door with his head don't help.
  84. YMMV.South Park S 10 E 4 Cartoon Wars Part Two: The subplot of Fox's dilemma over what to do with showing Muhammad on television is this after the 201 censorship from several years later. The driver that helps Kyle get to Los Angeles claims "At least it's not all preachy and up its own ass with messages, you know?" in regards to Family Guy. Family Guy would, in fact, become associated with being a show that's "all preachy and up its own ass with messages" thanks to the episodes like "Not All Dogs Go to Heaven", which is just considered Seth MacFarlane shoving his thoughts on religion down viewers' throats.
  85. YMMV.Rayman 3 Hoodlum Havoc: Murfy's infamous "See you in Rayman 4" seems harder to swallow given Michel Ancel, the creator of Rayman and had once promised a Rayman 4, announced his retirement from game development in 2020. Add to that, while Ubisoft owns the IP and trademark, both Origins and Legends only came to be thanks to Ancel's involvement and sold poorly, meaning an actual Rayman 4 is less likely to occur due to the franchise being seen as not as profitable as massively successful properties that skew towards older demographics like Assassin's Creed. Whether the Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope DLC Rayman in the Phantom Show can lead to a new game is up in the air.
  86. TearJerker. The Saga Of Darren Shan: Steve breaking down in tears after being rejected by Mr. Crepsley and being ignored by Darren at school. He has been denied of his dream to become a vampire and feels lost and helpless without his friend around. "Sorry, [...] That was over the top. But I'm upset. It hurt, what Mr. Crepsley said, and you ignoring me at school. You're my best friend, Darren, the only person I can really talk to. If you break up our friendship, I don't know what I'll do." This becomes Harsher in Hindsight after Steve's return in Allies of the Night. He wasn't kidding when he said he'll be broken without Darren around....
  87. YMMV.Bret Hart: Bret's Heel persona in the first half of 1997 was based on him being a crybaby who complained about every perceived injustice he had suffered. He would later start acting this way in real life, as he continually dwelt on and spoke out against his treatment at Montreal, his injury from Bill Goldberg, and a bevy of other real-life feuds that were years if not decades old by that point.
  88. YMMV.Blakes Seven S 3 E 6 City At The Edge Of The World: Considering everything that happens to him between now and the end of the series, it's hard not to think that Vila probably would have been better off going with Kerril.
  89. YMMV.Kipo And The Age Of Wonderbeasts: The Timbercats acting as if Yumyan Hammerpaw will never come down from the trees and Kipo initially believing he's dead becomes this in the final season where he is the first to be cured onscreen, effectively killing him off. And he and the other Mutes that get cured aren't changed back either.Around the end of "Code Word Milkshake", Camille congratulates Kipo for saving her from Emilia, fearing she would never get to play guitar again. Sadly, just a few episodes later, Camille would be one of many mutes hit by a cure dart and turned into an ordinary snake. Now she will never be able to play her guitar.
  90. YMMV.Lucky Number Thirteen: For anti-fans, the fact that the original books don't end the same way as this fic. In the fic, Ana realises how manipulative and destructive Christian is and decides to breaks things off with him, with Kate and Sharon as back-up. In the books Ana continues her relationship with Christian, is left distraught when he beats her with a belt and leaves...and then gets back with him when he promises not to hit her again, although he continues to be very controlling and threatening towards her – she actually states in the books themselves that she finds him intimidating and overly-controlling. And she ends up marrying this guy after only a few months, which several readers found to be an Esoteric Happy Ending.
  91. YMMV.Guilty Gear XX: All of the Unsettling Gender-Reveal jokes about Bridget from the XX era, both in-universe and in the fandom, were squashed when she came out as a trans woman in -STRIVE-.
  92. YMMV.Total Drama So Uh This Is My Team: Beardo's elimination initially comes off as something well-deserved for a useless teammate. All he does is make weird noises all the time instead of assisting his team in winning the challenge. However, given how Beardo's audition tape reveals that he is actually shy and just makes noises until he gets to know people more, this comes off more tragic in hindsight, given how he would have possibly stopped bothering others and started being more helpful had he stayed instead of Leonard.
  93. YMMV.Battle For Terra: The movie's complete failure at the box office is even more ironic when a movie with almost the exact same plot held the record for highest-grossing film OF ALL TIME for nearly a decade.
  94. YMMV.Hobbs And Shaw: Kevin Hart plays a guy who wants to get in on the action in a franchise built around car chases. Shortly after the film’s release, he suffered a horrific compound spinal fracture in a car accident.
  95. YMMV.What If S 1 E 4 What If Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead Of His Hands: The episode was released two days before Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, due to the latter being delayed by the COVID-19 Pandemic. This coincidental release highlights a tragic parallel between this timeline's Strange and the villain of Shang-Chi, Wenwu, as both characters resort to dark power and are willing to risk the safety of their entire dimension to bring back a lost loved one. This is further piled up on by the Sacred Timeline sequel: as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness shows, Strange's adventures in The Multiverse leads him to the tragic realization that as much as his love for Christine is a constant in many universes, none of those universes end up with them together.
  96. Recap.Mash S 2 E 23 Mail Call: Ask a Stupid Question...: In his second appearance of the episode, Klinger enters Henry's office to find the colonel at his desk and asks him if he's in. Henry, irritated with working through his wife's collection of cheques, loudly replies: No! No, Klinger! This is a film of me. I died about a hundred dollars ago.
  97. RunningGag.Anime And Manga: The bruise Kousei got on his forehead after being hit by a baseball in Episode 1 of Your Lie in April keeps opening at various points in the series, and nobody seems to care despite the stream of blood on his face, justified because usually the cause of his bleeding are Played for Laughs. It soon becomes Harsher in Hindsight when we first see that it really started when Kousei's mother beat him upside the head in a fit of rage in a venue lobby, opening the wound on his forehead and knocking off his now broken glasses.
  98. YMMV.Layla: After losing the Divas' Championship to AJ, Kaitlyn is unable to make it back to the backstage area and collapses crying in the entrance way. Layla comes out and comforts her, helping her to the back. Harsher in Hindsight with her eventual heel turn, but a sweet Friendship Moment nonetheless.
  99. YMMV.Songs Of War: In one of the bloopers, Ria throws the spear she got from Senn towards him and it impales him. Fast forward to Episode 6, which ends with Tygren Voltaris killing Thalleous Sendaris in the exact same way, just from behind.
  100. YMMV.Bowfinger: Daisy spends the majority of Chubby Rain driving like crazy around Los Angeles. In August 2022, Anne Heche, who was the inspiration for Daisy, died from injuries sustained in an automotive accident.
  101. YMMV.The Outer Limits 1995 S 6 E 17 Gettysburg: A black president in 2013, likely the first black president, tries to bury the legacy of hatred of the Confederacy for good during a ceremony for the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, and is assassinated by a Confederate sympathizer in response. Now, while this didn't exactly happen in reality, 2013 did have a black president (Barack Obama), who was the first one, and his presidency energized and brought into the light many racist, far-right, sometimes violent individuals and groups.
  102. YMMV.London Has Fallen: With the election of Sadiq Khan as Mayor of London, the first Muslim to hold the office, conservative and other nationalist groups have started tweeting the hashtag #LondonHasFallen. After two terror attacks in London in 2017, this movie has become much scarier in hindsight.
  103. YMMV.Red White And Royal Blue: Henry brings up the idea of abdicating and leaving the Royal Family if they won't accept his sexuality and relationship with Alex. In the end, he doesn't have to. The book was partially inspired by Meghan Markle marrying Prince Harry. A year after it came out, the couple decided to exit the Royal Family, citing the extreme racist harassment she received from the media and the lack of support from some of his relatives.
  104. Characters.Open Heart Choices: The Friend Nobody Likes: Although Landry is willingly invited to live in the apartment with the other main interns at the beginning of book one, it will become apparent that he does not fit in. He is introverted to the point of being withdrawn, and no amount of interaction with him will make him become more friendly. He also has no premium interactions available, hinting that he won’t stick around. This becomes Harsher in Hindsight during the victory celebration at Donahue’s if he is the last person you choose to speak to. He is surrounded by people noisily celebrating your victory with everyone pointedly ignoring him, and he leaves before you can speak to him, completely dejected.
  105. YMMV.All The Difference In The Worlds: In Chapter 1, the sword of Crocea Mors gets broken in half by Cinder Fall. Then the Season 8 finale of the main series happens.
  106. Trivia.Birds Of A Feather S 1 E 3 Shift: Darryl's West Ham 1980 FA Cup Winners mug being broken, when you consider that by the time Darryl was released in 1997 West Ham still hadn't won another trophy since. They did win promotion to the English top division in 1991 and again in 1993, so perhaps the club produced commemorative mugs on these occasions and Tracey pressed Sharon to buy one for Darryl.
  107. YMMV.The Simpsons S 26 E 18 Peeping Mom: In this episode, Homer muttering to Lisa that she's his favorite child is a sweet moment in the midst of a scene where she's down because of Middle Child Syndrome and he's working to cheer her up. The following season's "Barthood" would cast his Parental Favoritism in a way harsher light by showing how Bart is plagued by insecurity throughout his childhood because of it.
  108. YMMV.Drugstore In Another World: Mina used to watch over the inhabitants and visitors to her dilapidated family home by floating on the ceiling with her back to it. Episode 8 reveals when she was alive, she was constantly bed-ridden and got sick of staring at that ceiling, being able to do nothing else, and feeling like a load to her family.
  109. YMMV.Family Guy S 5 E 13 Bill And Peters Bogus Journey: In this episode, Peter attempts to sleep with Lois' mother Babs, but ultimately decides not to. 16 seasons later, on the episode "The Munchurian Candidate", he inadvertently gives Babs oral sex under hypnosis and ends up traumatized from the experience when he snaps out.
  110. YMMV.Pokemon Adventures: The Ruby and Sapphire arc was chosen via poll to be re-released in wide-ban format. The arc whose legendaries had nature-based abilities and used them to wreak havoc on the region. Cue the horrific earthquake and tsunami that ravaged Japan right afterward. The aforementioned Tohoku Earthquake caused the publisher to postpone the release of second and third volume of wide-ban format. When fans first saw the image of White trapped in the Nimbasa Ferris Wheel with N, there were a lot of rape jokes going around. When the following chapter came out, what N did to White is possibly one of the biggest tear jerkers in the entire series. It was even called a G-rated version of Netorare. In the Black 2 and White 2 chapter, Blake states that Looker's battling skills aren't as polished as they should be. In the X and Y games, Looker's Croagunk apparently died during a mission.
  111. YMMV.Breaking Bad S 5 E 9 Blood Money: Badger's Star Trek script (which ends with Chekov getting brutally killed by a freak accident) loses all of its humor after his actor in the J. J. Abrams films, Anton Yelchin's brutal death in a freak accident involving his car in 2016. Originally Saul's line about getting out when they start to whack the lawyers is funny self-interest. But it got worse when in Better Call Saul, Jimmy and Kim indirectly get Howard killed by Lalo, and Jimmy (who got tied to a chair and tipped himself over while struggling), has to lie face to face with Howard's corpse.
  112. YMMV.Ru Pauls Drag Race: Depending on your tolerance for Cringe Comedy, the following line said by Mimi Imfurst while watching Shangela and Venus' messy lip-sync is either this or Harsher in Hindsight given what she does to India Ferrah a couple of episodes later:
  113. YMMV.Splendor In The Grass: Deanie tries to drown herself, but she's rescued. Natalie Wood died in 1981, when she fell off her yacht (which was named Splendor) and drowned.
  114. YMMV.Memento Mori AFKRPG: Illya being the best character to bring for A.A's boss fight all the way back in the Kingdom of Byrune becomes this during the 2nd half of the 1st Anniversary when all 10 Curses eventually converge into her, and with the combined powers of an angel and the demon lord, Illya herself becomes the 11th Witch of Qlipha with the designation of 0.
  115. YMMV.Ultraman Nexus: Himeya's disappearance in episode 24 becomes this when his actor Yusuke Kirishima disappeared from the entertainment world since circa 2010, making any reunion of Ultraman Nexus cast a lot harder without him. Just to twist the knife further, Himeya's last words to Komon before disappearing was "the light is a bond", yet Kirishima has made little effort to return to Nexus or the Ultra Series as a whole....until 2023, when Kirishima announced on Twitter/X that he would be reprising his role as Himeya for a stage show!
  116. YMMV.Alice Through The Looking Glass: At the end of the movie, Alice sadly tells Hatter that she fears this is the last time they'll see each other and they may never meet again, after the movie bombing hard at the box office this will certainly be true for these iterations of the characters. The line "in the gardens of memory, in the palace of dreams, that's where you and I will meet" being spoken to Alice becomes this in the Latin Spanish dub, since dub actress Hiromi Hayakawa (who played Alice) passed away less than a year after the movie's release due to complications during her pregnancy.
  117. YMMV.The Magnus Archives: When the Web Table is delivered to the Magnus Archives, several characters bring up the possibility of destroying it while Jon disagrees with the idea of destroying knowledge. Jon later destroys the table and shows that was the worst thing to do when he accidentally releases the Not Them. The Reveal in Episode 160 that the reason all the rituals have failed is because a single Power cannot be brought into the world due its connection to the other powers. This means all the sacrifices to stop the rituals - including Tim and Micheal - were all for nothing. Worse, by trying to prevent rituals like the Unknowing, Jon played into Elias' hands in successfully bringing all the Powers into the world.
  118. YMMV.Legends Of Tomorrow: The final line of the last episode is Mike mockingly telling the Legends to cancel their plans for the future. The show was cancelled shortly afterwards, essentially cancelling all the writers’ plans for the future.
  119. TearJerker.Glee: This became even worse with the fact that Cory Monteith died of a drug overdose. In a hotel room. Away from his family. After he had apparently succeeded with rehab, which Christopher Hudson also tried for the sake of his son.
  120. Characters.Red Vs Blue Agent Washington: Cloudcuckoolander: Being stuck in armor lock for days on end with no food or water made him more than a little loopy in Season 15. It has some pretty tragic results though.
  121. YMMV.K Pax: Kevin Spacey was forced into therapy when his long history as a sexual predator was revealed.
  122. YMMV.Fawlty Towers: One of the best scenes in the whole series is where Manuel sets fire to the kitchen during a fire drill in "The Germans". The real building (for exteriors, anyway) burned down in 1991.
  123. YMMV.Beauty And The Beast 2017: The film takes place at a time where females are expected to Stay in the Kitchen, and those who show signs of intelligence are shunned. While the worst that happens to Belle is the townsfolk destroying her washing machine, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which was released only two months after Beauty and the Beast, shows that she could've had a worse fate in being tried for witchcraft and hanged (assuming the same Disneyfied historical innacuracies apply...) In the movie, when Belle was very young, her mother died in a plague that Belle herself survived only by moving to Villeneuve with her father. In real life, Belle's Spanish voice actress, Hiromi Hayakawa, died in childbirth mere months after this movie was released, and her child along with her. Hearing Lumiere wax lyrical about love and romance is sobering now that Ewan McGregor has separated from his wife, possibly having cheated on her...
  124. YMMV.Kirby Behind The Scenes: The second arc was originally made in 2008-2009, and revealed that Drawcia’s motive was that she was unjustly exiled for a crime she did not commit, and was hungry for revenge towards the actual culprit, who used her as a scapegoat. The fact the culprit was her brother made things worse, so does the fact the victims were her parents. But in 2013 Kirby: Triple Deluxe came around and made the situation potentially even worse than it already was with the introduction of Drawcia’s sister Paintra, who was hungry for revenge for being separated from Drawcia. The situation being potentially worse depended on whether or not Paintra existed in Dededeman’s universe, and the fact Dededeman confirmed Paintra existed in Dededeman’s universe made things worse indeed. Makes you wonder how Dededeman’s Paintra reacted to the situation…
  125. YMMV.Segagaga: The entire game is this when you realize that in real life Sega was completely crushed in this iteration of the console wars and would never again make another console. Worse, by the time this game was made, it was already obvious that Sega was losing, so the whole thing is essentially fantasizing about a miracle that never came.
  126. JustForFun.Trope Epitaph Renamed Tropes M To Z: Here lie Reverse Funny Aneurysm and Unfunny Aneurysm — In hindsight, their deaths were seen as either too hilarious or harsh. note The names were too similar to Funny Aneurysm Moment (which they were spun off from, and which itself was later merged into Harsher In Hindsight), which made it difficult to figure out which one was which.
  127. YMMV.Too Many Cooks: The character who homages The Cosby Show, Bill, is a serial killer who's featured hunting young women through the set of a sitcom. Bill Cosby himself would later be outed as a serial rapist, with numerous cases of tormenting women and getting away with it because few suspected a sitcom star.
  128. YMMV.Best Friends Whenever: A promo for the episode "Shake Your Booty" featured former President Jimmy Carter; this promo premiered on the day it was announced he had been diagnosed with cancer.
  129. YMMV.VG Cats: A tiny headline in strip #26 (The Incredible Krug) makes fun of the squeaky-clean Elmo, saying he's been embroiled in a sex scandal. Not so funny anymore after his puppeteer at the time turned out to have possibly been a statutory rapist years later, forcing him to resign. Even though he has since been cleared of the charges.
  130. YMMV.Cindys Story: In one scene, Trina's paranoid about "Explosive Blood Disease." Later on, the gang is attacked by Team Vortex and has "Explosive Blood Serum" injected into them. One scene had Taylor remind Joey of a Noodle Incident involving a Jigglypuff. Joey's brother Willie is later stabbed by Belico the sword-wielding Jigglypuff. In one scene, Canela says some unnecessarily mean comments about Cindy's Love Interest, even so much as to bring up the scenario of him getting bitten by a Malonix. A few dozen chapters later, it happens.
  131. Funny.Kamen Rider Gaim: Takatora somehow not seeing the battle between the ToQGer mech and the giant Inves. .. despite it taking place right outside of Yggdrasil's tower.Cue the yanking of collars when one factors in that just a few episodes ago, he was more than willing to blow up the city if so much as one Inves emerged from a tiny crack on a bridge. Granted, he can't do that anymore, but the more serious-minded viewer would wonder what would happen if he turned around. Micchy's plan to call out the Mole Badan so they could rescue Mai. It involves him and Kaito transformed with flags strapped to their back like Kachidoki Arms, fighting. It worked somewhat.
  132. YMMV.South Park S 5 E 7 Proper Condom Use: The parents push for sex ed to be taught to the younger grades. How young? Try "kindergarten".note Which Chef finds appalling, as he believes that kids should be kids and not worry about sexual matters until they find out about it for themselves. It was just a joke about how insane the need for teaching sex ed to younger children can be pushed. That is until some schools actually proposed having sex ed classes for 1st and 2nd graders. However, these sex-ed classes for 1st and 2nd graders usually were more centered on child molestation, how to identify it, and what to do if you or someone you know is a victim of it.
  133. YMMV.Star Trek The Next Generation S 2 E 15 Pen Pals: Wesley asks "What if it's something more important than a mineral survey? What if someone dies because I made a mistake?"
  134. TearJerker.Final Fantasy XV: It becomes Harsher in Hindsight when you realize that while Noctis and his friends were able to hear Luna's voice constantly (via the radio and during her speech in Altissia) throughout their adventures. .. Luna never hears Noctis' voice after 12 years of separation, not even once. She dies before ever hearing from him again, and it won't be until 10 years after her own death that she can hear him at long last...
  135. YMMV.Two Hands: The lyrics of "These Days" by Powderfinger, featured in the film and on its soundtrack, can bring Heath Ledger's fate to mind. Powderfinger performed the song at a service for Ledger. This life well it's slipping right through my hands These days turned out nothing like I had planned Control well it's slipping right through my hands These days turned out nothing like I had planned
  136. TearJerker.Timon And Pumbaa: The two origin episodes, as well as The Lion King 1 ½, make this Harsher in Hindsight, as they reveal that Pumbaa was banished from his sounder because of his smell and until he met and befriended Timon, he was alone in the world, with other animals trying to avoid him for that same reason. With Pumbaa thinking that his gas odor came between his and Timon's friendship, he was willing to return to his status as a loner.
  137. YMMV.Egyptian Mythology: Isis, the goddess of fertility, would later share a name with the Islamic terrorist group, ISIS. It got to the point where an Oakland spa had to remove Isis from the name out of safety concerns.
  138. YMMV.Earth And Sky: Applejack's comment to Soarin' about his mother not teaching him any manners become this when you take his family situation into consideration. She realizes this in chapter 10 and immediately apologies.
  139. YMMV.Bluey: In the episode "Sleepytime", Bingo and Floppy go their separate ways, to which Bingo is devastated. In the episode "Smoochy Kiss," we see in a Freeze-Frame Bonus a photo of Bingo as a baby snuggled against Floppy, who is much larger than her. Bingo's reaction to Floppy leaving makes a lot more sense now. After "Dragon" reveals that Chilli's mother has passed, Chilli's frustration with her dad's refusal to take care of himself and saying she still needs him in "Grandad" takes on a much heavier tone.
  140. YMMV.Mega Man 8: The stage select is accompanied with a globe of the earth◊, with Dr. Light's Lab being in Denver, CO. Note the position in the second select screen of Wily Tower...then note that this was made before September 11th, 2001.
  141. YMMV.Crash Holly: Hardcore Holly's mistreatment of Crash was played for comedy. Given the stories about Bob Holly being a backstage bully that eventually came out, it's rather uncomfortable. After an incident on WWE Tough Enough, where Matt Cappotelli complained about Bob Holly stiffing him, Crash did a shoot interview where he called him a "crybaby". While it became uncomfortable due to Crash's suicide (as he admitted to being bullied by Bob in the same interview), Matt passed away in 2018.
  142. YMMV.Halo Legends: While the scene with Master Chief giving Daisy Due to the Dead when he stumbles on her corpse was sad originally, it's made a lot worse when you learn in Silent Storm that her and the Chief were actually very close. Imagine what he was thinking.
  143. Series. The Guardians Of Justice: Younger Than They Look: Awesome Man is actually a child who is able to transform into an adult Super-Powered Alter Ego. This has the unfortunate effect of making his romantic relationship with The Speed somewhat Harsher in Hindsight.
  144. YMMV.Power Rangers Samurai: Ricardo Medina Jr's role as sword-wielding villain, Deker, became this after Medina ended up having an altercation with his roommate, ending with said roommate being killed with a sword and Medina pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter.
  145. YMMV.D 20 Live: The 2017 edition is the last time both Lewis and Nash worked with Doug Walker before "Change The Channel" caused the effective end of Channel Awesome as a collective.
  146. YMMV.Mars Argo: All the cutesy moments with Titanic and Mars became this once the lawsuit and allegations against him and Poppy broke out in early 2018, revealing the unflattering and unsavory events surrounding the project's disillusion, the least of which being their breakup.
  147. YMMV.Once Upon A Time S 3 E 4 Nasty Habits: Pan mercilessly mocks Rumpelstiltskin over the fact that he's afraid of being abandoned and that he deserved to be abandoned by his own father.* Once we discover the identity of Rumple's father four episodes later, this becomes such an enormous Kick the Dog moment that it erases all doubt that Pan is a complete bastard. Rumple being so sure his son was dead and lost to him forever becomes this as well* after what Zelena tricks Neal into doing and what Rumple is forced to do, both afterward and in Storybrooke.
  148. YMMV.Miracle Of Sound: "When The Wolves Cry Out," a song about Jon Snow, contains the lines "Reach out to the Unburnt/Flame to cover all." The Unburnt, obviously, referring to Jon approaching Dany for assistance against the White Walkers. Come the end of the series, Dany's "flame" does, indeed, "cover all," in the worst way. Similarly, "Halfman's Song" includes the line "the bells of conscience ring," which lands way differently after the final season.
