Sandbox / Bad Santa Wick Check

Go To

I've noticed that the trope of Bad Santa, as written, is much too nebulous, and reads like it's 3 tropes in one: Jerkass Santa, villain Santa, and demon or monster Santa, the last of which, Santabomination already covers.Wicks checked:

  1. A Minor Kidroduction: Hayate the Combat Butler begins with a flashback to Hayate's childhood where Santa tells Hayate that he wouldn't ever bring him a present, and provides one of the reasons why Hayate is so strong-willed.
  2. Saints Row Zin Empire: A psychopathic VR Santa Claus created to torment the real deal in his simulation by corrupting the meaning of Christmas and the Big Bad of "How The Saints Saved Christmas".
  3. Adaptation Explanation Extrication
  4. Adaptational Villainy: There are a LOT of "Evil Santas" in this trope.
  5. Segata Sanshiro: The character dresses like a jerkass Santa, but he still gives the kids a Sega Saturn.
  6. An Ass-Kicking Christmas
  7. Anthropomorphic Personification
  8. Anti-Christmas Song
  9. Artistic Title
  10. Chao in Space: Eggman appears in the Chao Garden dressed in Santa attire, planning to steal the Chao's presents.
  11. I Saw Grayson Kissing Santa Claus: What Damian is convinced Santa is. The idea becomes so rooted in his mind that Bruce has no choice but to tell Damian that Santa doesn't exist to finally get him to let go of the situation.

  • (Each category needs a separate folder depending on the alleged issue, like misuse, alternative interpretations of the trope, misplacements, potential splits, and etc)

    Jerkass Santa (Old Saint Prick)
  • Bad Santa is a fucking prominent example. It seems that every other word is a curse, which is especially amusing seeing as the main character is a department store Santa.
  • A Zig-Zagged example. When Segata disguises himself as Santa Claus, the children are scared to see him when he takes off his mask; but he does give them a judo throw-free Sega Saturn afterward.
In Montana Max's short, "A Montana Max Christmas", Monty plays Santa Claus, and pulls a sledge hammer on Buster and Babs. The two rabbits cut the film before any actual violence is seen.

    Evil Santa (Killer Claus)
  • Futurama has several. In their first Xmas special, Santa is a dangerous robot who kills everyone on his "naughty" list (and has such high standards that everyone winds up on his naughty list), so the episode ends with the cast gathering around the piano to sing "Santa Claus Is Gunning You Down".
  • Muppet Classic Theater: The Wolf dresses up as Santa in his last attempt to get into the house. However, Sandy is suspicious, given that it's the middle of summer, and sends a rocket up the chimney.
  • The version of Santa in Santa's Rampage, who snaps and kills all his elves. Even beforehand, it is stated that he puts his elves through bad working conditions, and the amount of whiskey and eggnog bottles in his office also implies other problems.
  • Your Favorite Martian: Santa in "Santa Hates Poor Kids", who is depicted as a pedophile (and anti-Semite) who never gives anything nice to poor children.
  • Chao in Space: Eggman appears in the Chao Garden dressed in Santa attire, planning to steal the Chao's presents.
  • Adaptational Villainy: There are a LOT of "Evil Santas" in this trope.

    Demon or monster Santa (Santabomination?)
  • Santa Claws's Japanese name is a pun on the fact that Satan is an anagram of Santa.
  • In Kingdom Hearts II. This is not out of actually being evil, however, and more out of not really knowing how Christmas operates, leading to him making such "decorations" as a guillotine wrapped in Christmas lights in the middle of town square.
  • In the Saints Row IV DLC, "How The Saints Saved Christmas", the Saints must fight a psychopathic VR Santa Claus created to torment the real deal in his simulation by corrupting the meaning of Christmas.

ZCE and Unclear use (X/Total, %)

Non-tropes, like a wick in an index page (X/Total, %)
  • (Many prefer to test few extra wicks since this category is rarely useful)
    Unsorted
  • (Since the check starts with picking random wicks, it's recommended to copy them first and arrange them afterwards)
