Go To

Original air date: 6/30/2000 (produced in 1999)

Production code: PPG-213

Something's a Ms.: Ms. Bellum begins using her feminine wiles to coax the Mayor into giving her time off, but it turns out she wants to commit crimes.

Slumbering with the Enemy: The Powerpuff Girls throw a slumber party and invite every girl in their school to come. Mojo Jojo steals the final invitation and comes to the party dressed up as Mojesha.

Something's a Ms. Provides examples of:

  • Anything but That!: Sedusa when she begs the girls and Miss Bellum not to cut off her hair.
  • Badass Normal: Despite the girls initially not thinking she's capable of it, Ms. Bellum does actually manage to subdue Sedusa on her own.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Ms. Bellum may not do much of her own fighting, but when provoked, she proves an even match for Sedusa.
  • Big "NO!": Sedusa's reaction to the girls and Ms. Bellum cutting off her hair.
  • Cat Fight: Between Miss Bellum and Sedusa.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: The girls and Miss Bellum cut off all of Sedusa's hair as punishment.
  • Covered in Kisses: The Mayor ends up like this due to Miss Bellum/Sedusa.
  • Cut-and-Paste Note: Sedusa uses one of these when sending a ransom note to the Mayor.
  • Damsel in Distress: Ms. Bellum briefly. The Powerpuff Girls become this after their failed attempt to save Miss Bellum.
  • Damsel out of Distress: Miss Bellum manages to save herself and the girls from Sedusa's clutches.
  • Despair Event Horizon: The Mayor is brought to this when he receives a note informing him that Ms. Bellum has been kidnapped by Sedusa and that the girls must confront her if they want to save her.
  • Disguised Hostage Gambit: Sedusa switches clothes with Miss Bellum and pretends that she captured "Sedusa" in order to trick the girls, who fortunately wouldn't believe that Miss Bellum would singlehandedly defeat Sedusa.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: "Gory" is a strong word, but we are treated to one of these when Sedusa's hair gets cut, which is a horrific ordeal for her given that she relies on it to commit her crimes.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Sedusa throws her falsies at Blossom.
  • Kill It with Water: Sedusa's hair (or at least the hair gel that she was using) ultimately loses its power when it gets wet.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Sedusa's hair, which she relies on in all of her schemes, is cut off by Ms. Bellum after Sedusa's failed attempt to kidnap her and the girls.
  • Mirror Match: Sedusa vs. Miss Bellum starts like this because at the time Miss Bellum is still wearing the Sedusa disguise that Sedusa put on her.
  • Oh, Crap!: Sedusa is horrified to see that Miss Bellum had freed the girls from her hairgel, and is going to make sure she can't use it ever again.
  • Out-of-Character Alert: Miss Bellum acts really unlike her usual self in this episode (like using her looks to seduce the mayor into letting her take some time off, and crying when she apparently fails to notify the girls in time to stop a crime), which quickly tips off the viewer that something is not right about her. Eventually, her apparently capturing Sedusa on her own tips off the girls that she's not Miss Bellum but Sedusa in disguise.
  • Overly Long Gag: The cartoon starts with the narrator riffing on his episode-opening catch phrase about half-a-dozen times in a row in the space of twenty seconds.
    Narrator: The city of Townsville!
    (cut to City Hall)
    Narrator: The setting of Townsville!
(cut to a couch in the Mayor's office)
    Narrator: The settee of Townsville!
(The Mayor enters, and pulls out a compact disc)
    Narrator: The CD of Townsville!
(The Mayor tries playing the CD on a gramophone)
    Narrator: The pity of Townsville!
(Miss Bellum enters, hands on her hips in a disapproving manner; camera cuts to her front where it pans up Miss Bellum's body)
    Narrator: The pretty of Townsville!
  • Post-Kiss Catatonia: Sedusa repeatedly leaves the Mayor in one of these after she kisses him as Miss Bellum.
  • Technologically Blind Elders: The mayor tries to play a CD on a record player.
  • Took a Level in Badass: In her first appearance, Sedusa was taken out by the girls in a matter of seconds. Armed with her new hair gel, Sedusa puts up a far better fight, even defeating the girls briefly until Ms. Bellum intervenes.
  • Traumatic Haircut: Sedusa's fate at the end of the episode. That's bad enough on its own for someone as vain as she is, but her hair is also the source of her powers and its loss means that she's Brought Down to Normal.
  • Varying Competency Alibi: Mojo Jojo, despite his intelligence, is such a poor planner that when the girls try to figure out who is behind a string of robberies, they rule him out as a suspect because the robberies were too well-planned out.
  • The Worf Effect: Thr Powerpuff Girls, who can defeat kaiju and break through buildings, are rendered powerless against Sedusa's new hair gel.

Slumbering with the Enemy provides examples of:

  • Childish Pillow Fight: All the girls at the party gang up on Mojo in a massive pillow fight when they realize who he is and what he did to the Powerpuff Girls.
  • De-power: Mojo's plan is eventually revealed to be this; to steal a bottle of Antidote X and use it on the girls.
  • Disguised in Drag: Mojo disguises himself as a girl named "Mojesha" to infiltrate the girl's slumber party.
  • Good-Times Montage: Between the girls and Mojo in disguise as they enjoy the sleepover's festivities.
  • Huddle Shot: The girls get one as they are greeted by a disguised Mojo.
  • I Surrender, Suckers: In order to catch the girls (who realize who he is right from the start) off guard, Mojo spends the entire evening not doing anything evil but instead happily enjoying the party. The girls eventually decide Mojo probably just wanted to have some fun and stop keeping a close eye on him, thus allowing Mojo to go down to the lab and get some Antidote X.
  • Near-Villain Victory: This is the closest Mojo has come to defeating the girls for good. It take the girls' friends to defeat him.
  • Not a Morning Person: The Professor, as demonstrated by how he barely even notices the girls and the mess they made after picking up the paper.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Mojo's disguise as Mojesha. The professor and the other girls falls for it, but the Powerpuff Girls don't. However, they decide not to blow Mojo's cover right away since they fear it will frighten their friends.
  • Properly Paranoid: The girls were right that at the end that Mojo wanted to do something harmful. He just wanted them to be paranoid at the start so he can let their guard down to depower them.
  • Reactive Continuous Scream: Between Mojo and Julie Bean as he scares her back inside so he can steal her invitation.
  • Shout-Out: The title is naturally a shout out to the film Sleeping with the Enemy.
  • Slumber Party: The girls organize one for all the girls in their class.
  • Spanner in the Works: Mojo actually succeeds in using Antidote X against the Powerpuff Girls, but is Zerg Rushed by the other girls at the party before he can do anything else to them.
  • Tempting Fate: After using Antidote X on the Powerpuff Girls, Mojo brags to the other girls that they are powerless and can't do anything to him. This angers them and cues the pillow fight.
