  • Carmageddon 2: Things like police sirens and the basses from your boomcar are actually part of the engine sound, meaning they change pitch as you accelerate and brake. Imagine playing a 20 minute level with a constantly wailing siren that also changes into a dissonant chipmunk squeal whenever you drive fast.
    • It's worse with pedestrians as well, as the female pedestrians emit the same four Stock Scream sound effects. Male pedestrians are much worse, as they repeat the same two screams over and over.
  • Cars Race-O-Rama: The Nintendo Hard Guido Kart Races every time you restart in the sixth generation consoles, Guido says "Okay!" which can be REALLY annoying fast especially those races are incredibly hard due to the sloppy and awkward controls and the fact that it veers itself pretty much often than the Monster Truck and Rustbucket Derby races.
  • Twisted Metal: Health is low! Low health! Health is low! Low health! Whoop whoop whoop whoop whoop whoop whoop! Health is low! Low health!
  • Daytona USA:
    • Your crew chief: "You can take him. Try to go easy on the car! You can take him. You've got plenty of gas. You're running first. You can take him. Try to stay low in them turns. Try to go easy on the car!"
    • This gets even worse in the Sega Dreamcast port, as not only did they change the crew chief to an even more obnoxious voice than the other games, but it's likely all you're going to hear is "Stay low in the turns".
    • A very distinct and very LOUD crash sound plays when you ram your car into something so hard that it flips end over end.
      (CRASH!) "Are you all right?"
    • The crew chief in Daytona USA 2 will always complain whenever you drift. This means you'll hear either "You're burning out the tires!", "Careful! You'll melt the tires!" or "You're slipping and sliding!" while skidding through every other corner. This is despite the fact that powersliding is not only a valid strategy, but it's demonstrated in an Attract Mode tutorial and is required for competitive play.
  • In Test Drive Off Road every single time you went through a check point the announcer would yell "CHECK POINT". It didn't help that they were pretty much around every turn and once you had two players going... the result was a nearly continuous stream of the announcer saying "CHECK POINT CHECK POINT CHECK POINT CHECK POINT".
    • Off-Road 2 does the same thing with "WHOA! AWESOME! AWESOME! WHOA! WHOA!" every time you throw some big air.
  • Ford Racing 2 has two lines from the announcer that if you lost a race, even on Hard:
    "You'll do better next time!"
    "Better luck next time!"
  • The reason why the low-budget Wii game M&M's Kart Racing gained notoriety on the Internet: "APPROACHING SOUND BARRIER!" "Look, a nut."
  • The Simpsons: Road Rage tends to run through its repertoire of player character quotes way too quickly. At least the loading screens are silent.
  • Like its predecessor, The Simpsons Hit & Run has a fairly small pool of quotes from both player characters and NPCs, which leads to a lot of repetition. The bonus races also have the exact same unskippable dialogue at the start every time. Considering how difficult some of those races are, you'll be hearing that dialogue a lot, and listening to Nelson call you a loser or Milhouse complain about car fumes gets old fast.
  • If your main opponent in Ridge Racer Revolution passes you, the announcer will taunt you with "Ha ha! You're too slow!!"
    • From R4: Ridge Racer Type 4, two of these announcer clips will very much hammer themselves into your head very fast if you play Time Trial:
      (when beating a section record) "Sweet! You really ripped through that section!"
      (when failing to beat a section record) "MY GRANDMA DRIVES FASTER THAN THAT! GET WITH THE PROGRAM!"
    • The announcer in V never shuts up. He talks when you overtake an enemy. He talks when an enemy overtakes YOU. He talks when you collide with an enemy. Even when nothing is happening, he will commentate on the weather or the engine sounds.
  • Star Wars Episode I: Racer (N64):
    • Each character had one thing to say when attempting a repair, and then another thing a second later as it repairs. Anakin's were "C'mon, c'mon, c'mon Work!" and "It's working...it's working!", said in the most annoying way possible. Again, and again, and again.
    • Everything Anakin said at any point in the game. Of course, he'll be the character most people chose outright, as Sebulba couldn't be unlocked until the end of the game. Even winning was painful.
  • The Midnight Club series has a couple examples of sounds nervous to the player:
    • In the earlier games, the variety of racer catchphrases could go over too quickly, whether it's your fifth or tenth try in a particularly tough race.
    • In DUB Edition, the rapid "beep-beep-beep!" sound of the Slip Stream Turbo in 3, if it comes on at the wrong time.
    • Also in the DUB Edition, a short high-pitched female scream can really irritate people due to the fact that you can't run down pedestrians much like the previous games.
  • In NASCAR 21: Ignition, the crew chief and the race spotter are the most obnoxious members of the racing team who run their extremely limited vocabulary of lines so many times to aggravate the player. You can at least turn their voices off, but their spoken dialogue stays there and couldn't be turned off. Luckily, older simulation games based on this stock car motorsport (such as NASCAR or NASCAR Thunder by EA Sports) were less repetitive in their crew chief/spotter chatter.
  • Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune:
    • The loud BANG!!! heard when hitting a wall at high speeds on 1 and 2.
    • The incredible tire screech you hear when taking a corner with a powerful car
    • The "ding-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding" of the sharp corner alert.
    • From Maximum Tune 3DX onwards, when you beat a ghost, you earn coins representing your wins. The sound of coins being awarded wouldn't be this, if not for the fact that the sound effect is unexpectedly louder than most other sound effects for no real reason.
  • Mario Kart:
    • Toad in Mario Kart 64. "HERE WE GO!", "YAHOO!", "I'M THE BEST!", "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!"
    • Double Dash has several of these when you swap driver and passenger/weapons person. Perhaps the most annoying is Princess Daisy yelling "HI! I'M DAISY!" in a very grating voice. Even though Daisy has never said this line ever after this game, it always comes back to haunt her, with many fans claiming that she says it in every game she appears in.
      • Not to mention her rather loud scream when you hit her with an item. God help you if you choose to put her on your team. Thankfully this problem was fixed in future installments, but it still tends to pop up in other Mario games too, such as the Mario and Sonic series and other Mario sports titles.
      • Daisy also has a particularly shrill, mocking laugh when she hits someone with an item, which is infuriating if it's you who she's just hit.
      • This can also be forced by the player - constantly swapping between racers. This is especially bad if it's. for example, Daisy and Peach because then you get "HI I'M DAISY-Peach! HI I'M DAISY-Peach! HI I'M DAISY-Peach!"
      • Characters being dragged along the ground will scream for the entire time in an extremely irritating manner. Peach's "Waaa-waa-aah-wa-WAAH!", Daisy's "OH-OH-OH-OH-OH, NOOOO!" and Baby Luigi's "WAAA-HAAA! MAMAAAA!" are among the worst. It doesn't help that most of the time when you hear the drag sound it's because you've been royally screwed over by a blue shell.
      • Speaking of blue shells, in this game they made an odd hissing sound when approaching. The noise isn't distressing in of itself, but it is still universally disliked because it means that you're about to face a massive unavoidable setback due to pure RNG.
      • Bowser Junior's crying when placing 7th or lower can became this or Played for Laughs.
    • Mario Kart Wii:
      • Warning sirens when a homing item or a powered up driver is coming up behind you. It's irritating when either one has not passed you and the sound JUST WON'T STOP. Made even worse if there is lag in online play. But controller-snapping frustration ensues—for entirely different reasons—when you're in first, and someone fires a blue shell—and just after it's fired, someone passes you...
      • The voices for the Mii drivers. Full stop. Compounding it is that, not only is there a different voice for each kind of trick, falling off a cliff, etc., but a different set of voices for each of the three weight classes. The Medium weight class voice sounds like an 8-bit-to-32-bit YouTube Poop-distorted voice sampling of Miyamoto on helium. The voices for Small and Larger classes are even worse.
      • The larger weight classes tend to sound like a real person on valium. They barely emote at all, so it sounds almost like they're mocking you somehow. "Wahaaa. Yaaaah."
      • All of Funky Kong's lines and some of Daisy's too. To add insult to injury, they're the most used characters in the game.
    • And then there's the Mii voices from 7. "YEP YO! YEP YO! YEP YO! YEP YO! YEP YO! YEP YO! YEP YO!"note 
    • Mario Kart Tour introduces Dixie Kong, and she probably has the most annoying voice of any of the playable characters in the series so far. When asked, many players who play the game with no sound on state that they are doing it just so they won't have to listen to Dixie's screeching voice.
      • If you thought the Mii voices were already annoying in Wii and 7, then tough luck, because Tour has probably what is the most annoying incarnation of the Mii drivers. It doesn't help much that they always have the same voices, regardless of gender or weight.
  • In Jak and Daxter X, there is one race where your weapons are disabled. The first weapon pickup you gather, which you will be stuck with for the entire race since it can't be used, will nearly always be the seeker missiles, which will drive you crazy by locking on to every car to ever overtake you with a "bweep" noise. It's okay in normal racing, since that's the cue to press fire, but when you can't shoot, it just gets really irritating in moments and stays that way for the rest of the race.
  • In Diddy Kong Racing, if you wind up in the wrong way, TT will repeatedly pester you by saying "No no no! Wrong way!" until you adjust yourself again.
    • TT's voice in general. At least, to some.
  • The sound of your car exploding in San Francisco Rush. Expect to hear it a lot if you attempt shortcuts.
  • In Crash Nitro Kart, Crash himself has an obnoxiously high pitched voice that sounds nothing like he normally does, and would you believe STEVE F**KING BLUM of all people voiced him?! As divisive as the Radical Entertainment titles could be at times, they at least gave Crash a somewhat tolerable voice.
  • Quarantine (1994) has the loud, shrill screams of pedestrians being mowed down by cars. Traffic in Kemo City being heavy and human life being cheap, these are heard over and over and over and over, all the time.
  • Super Chase: Criminal Termination: "This is Nancy! They're moving very fast! Over and out!" Expect to hear that every few minutes when the chase lasts too long.
  • Euro Truck Simulator: *BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-KACHING!* You just lost 1000 € due to a careless AI car that bumped into your cargo. Or maybe you're in the United Kingdom and the government just scammed you £100 with a speedtrap right after a sudden speed limit change.
  • Bigfoot on the NES has several sounds that will get on the player's nerves: the invincibility power-up, when activated, plays a siren-like bloop every second. The other one is the buzzsaw power-up that makes a buzzing sound effect while it's active.
  • F-Zero:
    • F-Zero GX has a pretty catchy retired/mission failed theme but it will eventually grate on your nerves after hearing it a lot if you have a tough time completing the Grand Prix on Master difficulty or the game's story mode, especially Chapter 7.
    • F-Zero: GP Legend and F-Zero Climax players immediately rub their heads aggressively against the Game Boy Advance's screen if they botch the Boost Fire start and instead hear just "FIRE!!" instead of "BOOST FIRE!", meaning they just suffered a massive acceleration penalty.
  • Maxxed Out Racing has the buddy saying "Don't lose" every five seconds even if you're leading the race which can get annoying very fast. Thankfully it can be turned the buddy off.
