One of the most distinctive and eloquent faces in post-war British cinema.

"I only ever had one or two days' work on those very funny films. Going into a long-running team show is a frightening experience and so it was that each time I was lucky enough to be invited to play in a Carry On, I always arrived at the studio with a certain amount of trepidation."

Victor Jack Maddern, (16 March 1928 — 22 June 1993), was a British actor.

He trained at the RADA after his time serving in World War II. His first screen appearance came in Seven Days to Noon as a soldier tasked to shoot a scientist and two years later, he appeared in one of his earliest stage roles, Sam Weller in The Trial of Mr Pickwick.

For the rest of his career, Maddern was a familiar face in films and TV, often Typecast as military men. He had memorable roles in Blood of the Vampire, I'm All Right Jack, Please Turn Over, five Carry On films, Circus of Fear, and a Missing Episode of Dixon of Dock Green, notable for a surviving outtake reel where Maddern repeatedly mispronounces "Dock Green Nick" as "Dock Green Dick".

On the side, he ran a script printing business, opened a school for public speaking, and devoted much time to working for charity.

He died of a brain tumour at the age of 65.
