Anthology series created by The BBC as a response to Channel 4's early success with feature film production. It aired from 1985 to 1998.

Provides examples of:

  • Art Shift: The opening titles were periodically updated to reflect changes in BBC Two's on-screen branding and presentation.
  • Genre Anthology: Its purpose was to showcase dramas that were more cinematic than the studio-bound productions the BBC had favoured in the past.
  • Long Runner: Ran from 1985 to 1998.
  • Spinoff: Screen One was launched as a companion strand on BBC One in 1989.
