Characters / The Lion Guard - Jasiri's Clan

    General
  • Badass Crew: They are easily able to take on Scar's army, even without the Lion Guard. Of course, being a spotted hyena clan (which are the second most sucsessful predators in Africa after African wild dogs), this is a given.
  • Foil To Janja's clan. While they're both hyena clans, they also differ greatly from each other. Janja's clan show no care for the circle of life, and try hunting down other animals out of pure greed. During season 2, they also end up serving Scar before undergoing a Heel–Face Turn. Jasiri's clan, meanwhile, show great respect for the circle of life, prefering to scavenge rather than hunt. During season 2, they also oppose Scar and his army.
  • Heinous Hyena: Averted, as all of them are firmly on the side of good.
  • La Résistance: Towards the end of season 2, they form the Hyena Resistance, fighting a war against Janja’s clan.
  • True Companions: No matter what happens, they alway try and take care of each-other (best shown in Rescue in the Outlands and The Hyena Resistance). They're also shown to be very close friends with the Lion Guard, and both teams are always willing to help each-other should the need arise.

A good hyena who befriends Kion.

  • Action Girl: Can put up a fight against Janja and his clan. It is implied that she has bested him before. In "Rescue in the Outlands" it is shown she can easily best him one on one. Janja needs to bring his entire clan just to outmatch her.
  • Aesop Amnesia: Immediately after singing a duet with Kion about how they should be friends she laughs at the idea of needing a lion's help when Kion offers and after chasing off Janja's group shows surprise when Kion tells the rest of the Lion Guard that she's a friend.
  • Awesome Moment of Crowning: After Scar's defeat, she is made the Queen of the Outlands, promising to make it a better place.
  • Artistic License – Biology:
    • She's smaller than the male hyenas (real-life hyena females are around 10% larger than males), but it's not clear if this is due to her age or a deliberate choice/goof up by the writers. The only other female hyena seen so far in the franchise whose size we know (Shenzi) is the same size as the male hyenas in the first two films, so probably the latter.
    • Janja having his clan gang up on her. Real-life male hyenas would not dare do such a thing.
  • Awesome Aussie: She has an Australian accent courtesy of Maia Mitchell, and is good at putting up fights with Janja and his gangs.
  • Badass in Distress: She beat Cheezi and Chunga pretty easily. It took Janja himself to pin her down.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She's a nice hyena, but a hyena nonetheless. Noteworthy is that she's able to beat Janja and his clan by herself.
  • Big Good: Becomes this for the Outlands, after Scar is defeated and his Legion of Doom decide to reform.
  • Cute Little Fangs: Usually seen when she closes her mouth.
  • Damsel in Distress: She puts up a good fight and it isn't clear if she even needs Kion's help, but he still saves her anyway from the other hyenas with The Roar.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Her fur is a very dark purple, but she is very friendly.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She does not actually snark like Fuli or Ono, but her sassy little half-lidded smirk speaks for itself. She later does show a willingness to snark in certain situations.
  • Evil Laugh: Averted. When Kion got stuck in a thorn bush her laugh sounded like this for a tiny cliffhanger but she really only mocked him.
  • Expy: Of Asante, a good hyena character that befriends Simba's probably Retconned-away first born son Kopa in a tie-in book for the first film.
  • Fantastic Racism: Downplayed. She has her little comments about Kion being a lion, but is not that hostile about it.
  • Fisher King: Upon her ascension to the throne as Queen of the Outlands, the other animals actually express hope that the Outlands can become more livable.
  • Good Colors, Evil Colors: A way to tell she (and the other members of her clan) is not evil like Janja's clan is by her fur color; she is tinted a faint purple, while Janja and the other hyenas are a sickly grey. She also has Innocent Blue Eyes, unlike the other hyenas' black eyes.
  • Good Counterpart: To Janja. Unlike Janja, she is a friendly hyena who respects the Circle of Life and looks down on gluttony.
  • Heinous Hyena: A rare (and conspicuous) inversion. She is nice, heroic and friendly to the heroes.
  • "I Am" Song: Kion and Jasiri's duet "Sisi ni Sawa (We Are The Same)"
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: To contrast the evil hyenas' black eyes.
  • Kick Chick: Some of her fighting moves incorporate kicks from her hind legs.
  • Kids Are Cruel: Downplayed. She is neither cruel nor mean, but she did have Kion tumble off a cliff into a thorn bush just because she found it funny.
  • La Résistance: In Season 2 she forms the Hyena Resistance to oppose Scar in the Outlands.
  • Mama Bear: She fiercely defends Tuna and Wema from Janja and his clan.
  • Meaningful Name: Jasiri is Swahili for "courageous".
  • My Country, Right or Wrong: The Outlands are a dangerous place, filled with rival clans and lava flows that have hurt Jasiri several times. But it's still her place, so she refuses Kion's offer to move her into the Pridelands.
    "Home is home."
  • Nice Girl: While she may seem snarky and menacing at first she really is a friendly and loyal hyena who respects the circle of life.
  • No True Scotsman: Jasiri believes true hyenas respect the Circle of Life and scavenge. Because of this, her clan is at war with Janja's clan for giving her species a bad name.
  • Politically Incorrect Hero: She makes a comment about males being dumb, in a nod to the fact that real-life hyenas are matriarchal.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: While it is unknown if she is the actual matriarch, she is shown to be a capable leader, and she shows a willingness to hear Janja out, and later accepts him into her clan. This is shown by how overwhelming she is accepted as Queen of the Outlands after Scar's defeat.
  • Rightful King Returns: How her ascension to Queen of the Outlands is portrayed.
  • Save the Villain: Despite everything he had done to her and her friends throughout Seasons 1 and 2, Jasiri still decides to save Janja's life in "The Hyena Resistance", instead of letting him experience a well-deserved Karmic Death.
  • Ship Tease: She gets a fair amount of this with Janja. While part of it seems one-sided on Janja's part, there is a moment in the series finale where the two share a teasing yet knowing look as they celebrate King Kion and Queen Rani's reign.
  • Token Heroic Orc: She and her clan are, by far, the only good hyenas shown in the series and the overall franchise.
  • Unexplained Accent: Has an Australian accent, but nobody else in the Pride Lands talk in the accent she has. Neither do hyenas that are not related to her. Maybe she picked it up while traveling the world.
  • You Are in Command Now: After Scar's defeat, Jasiri becomes the leader of the Outlands and is named Prime Minister.

    Madoa

Voiced in English by: Maisie Klompus

Jasiri's sister.

  • Action Girl: It's implied that she's not as formidable a fighter as Jasiri (in "Rescue In The Outlands" she states that without Jasiri, her clan would have no chance against Janja). Nevertheless, in The Hyena Resistance she proves herself to be a capable fighter.
  • Awesome Aussie: Like Jasiri, she speaks with an Australian accent due to her voice actress being Australian, and is almost as skilled as Jasiri is.
  • Impeded Messenger: Almost becomes one in "Rescue In The Outlands" when, while trying to get help for Jasiri, she runs into a swarm of tsetse flies. Fortunately, the Lion Guard rescues her.
  • The Lancer: She's heavily implied to be the second-highest ranking member of Jasiri's clan.
  • Meaningful Name: Madoa means "spots" in Swahili. Fitting for a spotted hyena.
  • Nice Girl: Like Jasiri, Madoa is a friendly hyena.

Voiced in English by: Fiona Hart and Crimson Hart, respectfully.

Two young hyena twins in Jasiri's clan

  • Cheerful Child: both of them are very playful cubs.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: They are baby hyena cubs, after all.
  • Shrinking Violet: When they're first introduced, they are quite shy around Kion (justified due to lions and hyenas being natural enemies). However, they become somewhat braver around him afterwards.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: In their debut episode, they are shown to be scared of lions and try to hide from Kion. Rescue in the Outlands shows they have gotten over this, however.
