Here are the character tropes for Son of Sparda D×D. For the original character page for Devil May Cry, see here. For Highschool DXD, see here.

Main Characters

    Dante

Dante/Tony Redgrave

The son of Sparda, the legendary demon warrior, and himself a powerful demon hunter. After his battle with Argosax the Chaos, he finds himself sent to a new world with its own demons.
  • The Ace: As a fighter, he's downright unstoppable. Anything that threatens the ORC is treated as a passing annoyance by him, he's very charismatic, and has some strong connections to powerful players in the D×D world (such as Azazel) that give him a lot of room to work with.
  • Big Brother Mentor: He functions as this towards Issei, often giving the new devil advice and acting like an older brother figure towards him.
  • Blood Knight: He loves fighting powerful opponents, and even gets excited at the prospect of fighting Serafall Leviathan when he learns that she could easily decimate a country if she wanted to.
  • Brought Down to Badass: He doesn't have any of his Devil Arms when he gets sent to to the D×D world, which prevents him from using his Devil Trigger. He's still a kick-ass Invincible Hero regardless.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: He doesn't hide the fact that he likes to stare at an attractive woman's ass, but he's cool about it and knows his boundaries. Issei, another example of this, actually looks up to Dante as a role model because of this.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Dante comes across to almost everyone as a slacking teenage rebel and is rarely ever taken seriously by anyone. They're always in for a surprise with how well this hides his true power.
  • Healing Factor: And an extremely powerful one too. Dante muses that he could make a killing selling his organs on the black market since his healing abilities let them grow back anyway.
  • In-Series Nickname: The students of Kuoh call him "The Yankee Prince".
  • Iron Butt Monkey: He goes through a lot of comedic injuries and gets beaten up quite a bit. But given that he's a completely Invincible Hero who can recover from almost anything, none of it remotely bothers him.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's not really a bad person, but his cockiness, carefree attitude, and general trolling of people he likes to mess with can give others a negative impression. Still, he deeply cares for those around him, drops the attitude when it's clear that it's not appropriate, and feels genuinely awful when he screws up, such as when he unknowingly married Yasaka and up and ditched her without paying much mind.
  • Shameless Fanservice Guy: He has no issue being naked around others and doesn't count male stripping as selling his dignity since he enjoys it.
  • Shipper on Deck: It's implied that he's hoping for Vergil and Gabriel to get together, when he's not mercilessly teasing him about it of course.
  • Shotguns Are Just Better: Azazel gives him a Sacred Gear shotgun that he tends to put to good use.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: His typical vocabulary is more like what it was in the animated series, so he's got one hell of a filthy mouth on him. He even calls Riser "pussy-splashing thundercunt" among other things.
  • World's Strongest Man: It's pretty clear that he's far and away the most powerful character in the entire story. The only person who could potentially match him in a one-on-one fight is his twin brother and the only characters that outright surpass him are Ophis and Great Red.

Allies

    Raynare

Raynare

A fallen angel and former enemy of the ORC. She now begrudgingly serves as Dante's secretary/maid.
  • Adaptational Heroism: She's given a chance for redemption and becomes an associate of Dante, albeit a begrudging one since it was either that or let Rias use the Power of Destruction on her.
  • Adaptation Species Change: In canon, she was purely a fallen Angel. In this story, she's a mixed breed, being part-human, part-Fallen angel, and part-demon.
  • Ascended Extra: She is spared here and becomes one of the main characters.
  • Butt-Monkey: She falls face first into this trope after her initial defeat. She loses most fights she gets involved in, frequently gets outclassed, or subject to a lot of embarrassing situations.
  • The Comically Serious: While she can snark with the rest, she's more often than not the serious one whenever put in with Dante's wacky antics. Since she's basically his indentured servant, this happens a lot.
  • Heinz Hybrid: She's part-human, part-angel and part-demon.
  • Hazy-Feel Turn: She becomes one of the main protagonists in the story and joins Dante, though only because the alternative was to be killed. She starts becoming more genuinely heroic as the story continues, even if she never drops her snarky attitude.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: In trade for her survival, being constantly humiliated at every turn is a fitting punishment for killing Issei among the other horrid actions she either committed or attempted to.
  • Parental Issues: She has some massive father issues. After we see her interact with Kokabiel for the first time in years, it's not hard to see why.
  • Related in the Adaptation: She's Kokabiel's daughter, whom she had no relation to in canon.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: She doesn't get killed by the Power of Destruction in this story and lives as Dante's secretary/maid.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: She becomes more genuinely heroic overtime, as well as more concerned for Dante and his allies.
  • Wicked Witch: Though a fallen angel, her abilities and persona invoke the feel of a vile woman who uses deception and magic to work evil deeds.

    The ORC

Rias Gremory

  • Fake Boobs: Dante thought hers were this when they first met, earning her rage.
  • Jerkass to One: She polite and sweet with most people, but she's downright caustic whenever Dante gets involved thanks to him buying a limited edition figurine before she could get it. Dante being a total gadfly about it exacerbates this even further.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: She heavily dislikes Dante for rather petty reasons, all the while Dante makes it clear he couldn't care less, even trolling her about it for fun.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: The Power of Destruction allows her to do devastating damage and kill most devils with a single attack. However, she's only ever used it in rather basic fashions and has poor control of her overall abilities.

Issei

  • Affectionate Nickname: Dante likes to call him "Ise-boyo", with "boyo" being a Welsh variation of 'boy'. Doubles as a Meaningful Name since Issei is the host of the Welsh Dragon, Ddraig.
  • Depraved Bisexual: Averted. He isn't this, but thanks to Kiba confessing his love to him, the entire school is convinced that he is and that neither men nor women are safe from his perversion.
  • Hero-Worshipper: He greatly looks up to Dante and sees him as a role model who's way of life is one he wants to live by.

Asia

Kiba

  • Straight Gay: He's led to believe he is in love with Issei, but the readers likely wouldn't know that if he didn't profess his love for him in front of the entire school.

Koneko

  • The Stoic: So much so that Dante muses to himself that she has the kind of poker face that could drive an entire casino bankrupt.

    Bluehide (spoiler)

Sir Gilver Bluehide/Vergil

The Paladin of the Church and among its most respected members.
  • The Ace: He's a Child Prodigy, Master Swordsman, the most powerful member of the Church, is respected by even those who have grown disillusioned with it, and among the few who could genuinely defeat Dante in a fight. All this becomes pretty justified when we learn that he's actually Vergil, aka the one person who can match Dante in battle and even win.
  • Atrocious Alias: Dante brings up that his alias, Gilver Bluehide, is pretty lame and uncreative when you break it down. It's just the two syllables of his first name reversed with the last name being the opposite of Dante's last name, Redgrave.
  • Bandaged Face: His identity is obscured by the bandages wrapping around his entire face. Even as a child, his face was covered in them.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: He grew up an orphan and was raised to be a Child Soldier by the Church. Given that he's actually Vergil, that includes all the crap he went through prior to the events of the Devil May Cry series as well.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's overly serious and condescending to others, but he takes his duties as the Paladin seriously, can be civil, and is actively fighting to maintain peace between the factions.
  • Not So Stoic: He tends to act like a stiff, serious, no-nonsense warrior most of the time. Whenever he's in the same room as Dante, however, he'll go full Snark Knight mode and trade barbs with the man on equal footing.
  • Secret Identity: Gilver Bluehide is really just an alias for Vergil.
  • She Is Not My Girlfriend: He's heavily insistent that Gabriel is not his girlfriend, something that Dante is very quick to tease him about.
  • Walking Spoiler: His true identity as Vergil makes him this.

Enemies

    Kokabiel

Kokabiel

A fallen angel seeking to start a war that will change the balance of the three factions forever.
  • Abusive Parent: Considering that he beats his daughter within an inch of her life, this is putting it mildly. Granted, he feels bad about it, but it's still very deplorable.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: While still a villain, he's more polite and is far from the cruel Blood Knight from the original series. His motives for starting a war are more well-intentioned, while canonically he did it because he was bored.
  • Adaptational Species Change: In canon, he was a fallen angel, while here he's actually a demon thanks to his true identity being Modeus.
  • Be All My Sins Remembered: He's perfectly aware that what he's doing will cause the death of countless innocents. Part of the deal that he made with the demons was that in the end, he would die when all factions unite against their common foe and he would forever be acknowledged by his atrocities.
  • Composite Character: He's combined with Modeus here.
  • Death Seeker: He seeks to ultimately die after he starts a war that will unite the three factions for good.
  • I've Come Too Far: He acknowledges that his actions are horrible and he feels terrible about them and what he's done to his daughter, but considers himself too knee deep in what he's doing to stop or ask for forgiveness.
  • Related in the Adaptation: In this story, he's Raynare's father, whom he had no connection to in canon.
  • Took a Level in Badass: In his previous identity as Modeus, Dante was easily able to kill him. Here, he trades blows with the Son of Sparda on even ground.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: He wants to unite the three factions and end all conflict between them, but his methods involve jump starting a war with Mundus that will no doubt kill countless innocents.
