    The Devil 
My power is absolute!

The ruler of Hell. Having been defeated by Van Helsing years ago, the Devil has been recuperating in his domain since. However, when souls became harder to acquire, he decided to take matters into his own hands and rise up to conquer the New World once and for all.


  • As Long as There Is Evil: When the Disciples are defeated, the Devil makes it clear that his - and their - defeat isn't a solution that will stick, no matter what the Sanctua Lumen do.
    The Devil: Evil is never vanquished. It's nothing more than a slight setback.
  • Reality Warper: By manipulating the success rate of events and effects of the combat scene, the Devil can move reality to go the way he wants to.
  • Satan: Who happens to be the narrator and the player steps in the shoes of throughout the game.
  • Villain Protagonist: He is the main character in opposition to Van Helsing.

    Dracula

The leader of vampires feared and revered.


  • Affably Evil: In some of his dialogues, Dracula comes off as polite while letting his enemies know they're about to die.
  • Dracula: Obviously.
  • Heal It with Blood: Some of Dracula's skills can steal HP from enemies, especially when skills such as Bloodlust provide the Vampirism status to strengthen the effects.

    Headless Horseman

A headless soldier risen from the grave in search of his missing head.


    Bloody Mary

"What game are we playing?"

A lady tied to horror reflected in the mirror.


  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: Bloody Mary's skills primarily on offensive attacks, be it targeting the enemy's Health or Spiritual Points.
  • Buried Alive: Mary's father intended on retrieving her from her coffin sometime after faking her death. However, things didn't go to plan because she woke too early and died of suffocation.
  • Psychopathic Womanchild: Mary's voice, and many of her dialogues, give off the impression of an immature child in a grown woman's body - all while she takes pleasure in killing her enemies.
  • Wight in a Wedding Dress: Bloody Mary is dressed very much like a bride, complete with a veil. It actually ties into her backstory.

    White Lady

"I have to get my hands dirty again?"

Once a lady of status, now risen as a vengeful spirit.


  • Ghostly Glide: White Lady glides when she's selected as the leader on the map.
  • 13 Is Unlucky: In one of White Lady's positive reactions, she mentions her thirteen husbands, suggesting she married that many times before one of them did her in.
  • Vengeful Ghost: Her backstory tells she rose as a ghost, exacting her revenge on her seventh husband by frightening him to death.

    Hecate

"Thanks be to the Moon."

A witch who lost her sisters in the process of escaping being executed herself, now seeking revenge.


  • Lunacy: Hecate's magic is themed around the moon, in which her attacks and healing abilities depend on the phase of the moon.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name originates from the Greek goddess of the same name, who was associated with magic and sometimes the moon.
  • Ritual Magic: Select skills of Hecate allow her to trigger a ritual effect, which she can use to either recover SP before recharging Skills of her and her allies or to cause damage to enemies.

    Lilith

"Choose me...you won't be disappointed."

A seductive succubus out for pleasure and pain.


  • Dual Wielding: Lilith carries two daggers, which she uses in some of her attacks.
  • Lilith: She is inspired by the demon of the same name. However, her backstory explains that she was once a normal woman until she was chosen to become a new Lilith, suggesting there have been others who carried the name before her.
  • Winged Humanoid: Lilith has bat-like wings that she uses to fly on the map and to glide in some of her attacks.

    Baron Samedi

A voodoo sorcerer charged with watching over the dead.


  • Borrowin' Samedi: Baron Samedi's design borrows much from the deity he was inspired from, from the sharp clothes he wears to enjoying cigars and rum. However, similar to the deity he is inspired from, his powers also fall into Hollywood Voodoo territory.
  • Cigar Chomper: He is never seen without a cigar on his person.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Samedi is well-dressed with his top hat and coat, one of the nods to the deity he is inspired from.

    Dr. Frankenstein and the Creature

The man of science and his creation.


  • Dr. Frankenstein: How he is identified in the game. In a creative turn of events, he is one of the Devil's Disciples alongside his creation.
  • Frankenstein's Monster: In a similar vein to the doctor, the Creature is one of the playable Disciples. Also, the Creature is referred to as "her", in part due to the brain of a shepherdess used in one of Dr. Frankenstein's experiments rather than that of a man.
  • Shock and Awe: Dr. Frankenstein has at least three skills which utilizes lightning, two of which deal damage while one recovers SP for himself and his allies while providing the status Electric Reminiscence.
  • Yellow Lightning, Blue Lightning: The Creature's lightning gives off yellow colors. Dr. Frankenstein's lightning comes out blue.


Sanctua Lumen

    Caleb

"A monstrosity such as yourself has no place on the side of Light, Caleb."

A Sanctua Lumen knight, claiming in his possession the Claw of Geryon. The Disciples have to find a way to render him mortal before taking the fight to him.


  • Mortality Ensues: After the Disciples successfully performed the ritual, and the priest's death caused his soul to transfer into Caleb, he became mortal. Upon realizing this, Caleb fled before making his last stand against the Devil's disciples.
  • Warm-Up Boss: He is the first boss you have to face against after he is rendered mortal. That doesn't mean he is going to be a cakewalk.

    Gabriel 

"Your power is an illusion, Gabriel. You can't fool the King of Lies. I will break you."

An alchemist involved with Sanctua Lumen, claiming in his possession the head of the Hydra of Lerna. The Disciples have to investigate his goals and put a stop to his schemes.


  • Alchemy Is Magic: Gabriel's attack and defense moves involve using alchemical magic to bolster himself and deal damage.

    Carmillia

"At my side, you could have had anything you want. Riches. Power. Blood. But you chose to betray me. I was sorely disappointed in you, Carmillia. Now, you will have to pay the price."

A dhampir lady interested in the Lantern of Charon as the Disciples are. At first, she appears to share common interest in seeking the Lantern, but she has a dark secret...


  • Dance Battler: Some of Carmillia's attack moves give off the impression of dancing while striking against the Disciples.
  • Dhampyr: Carmillia is a dhampir, which allowed her to hide her true intentions from the Devil and his disciples.
  • Seeks Another's Resurrection: Carmillia seeks the Lantern of Charon with the intention of bringing Solomon Kane, a Demon Hunter whom the Devil managed to kill during the Great Hunt, back from the dead.

    Dante

"Curiosity killed the cat, Dante. You sealed your fate the moment you decided to pursue the occult arts."

A professor studying the occult arts. He has been searching for the Eye of the Wyvern after having heard of it originally being in the possession of Stingy Jack.


    The Fox Sisters

"Fox sisters, you three have been a thorn in my side for too long."

Exorcists (who are also sisters) who sought out Mina Murray for their own goals. They are the threat to the Disciples' search for the Collar of Cerberus.


  • The Weird Sisters: Leah, Maggie and Kate are a trio of skilled exorcists who come with powerful magic against the Disciples.

    Gloria

"Gloria, Matriarch of the Sanctua Lumen! You pretend to act on the side of Good. But your austere propaganda and cruel laws have killed more innocents than my own Disciples."

A matriarch of the Sanctua Lumen, who has been pursuing the Spinning Wheel of the Fates. She covets its power for the same reason the Devil is.


  • Puzzle Boss: Battling against Gloria requires you to strategize according to which Oath is currently active for two turns. Once she reaches her vulnerable state and powers up, all bets are off.

    Van Helsing

"Van Helsing, you'll pay a heavy price for the humiliation I suffered at your hands. I am going to crush you!"

The leader of the Demon Hunters. Ten years ago, he defeated the Devil and his forces, forcing him to return to Hell where he came from. Now, he has become a target for revenge by the Devil.


  • Final Boss: In the Final Chapter, Van Helsing is the last obstacle between Satan and conquering the New World.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: In the tutorial, Van Helsing comes into the fight with a whopping 9, 999 Health and Spiritual Points and doesn't easily take damage.

Other characters

    The priest 

A priest who no longer preaches as he used to. He is instrumental in rendering Caleb mortal.


  • Turbulent Priest: When the Disciples met him, he no longer preaches, lost his inspiration and felt responsible for Caleb being unkillable. He helps them perform a ritual that would take away Caleb's hold of the Claw's power.

    The witch 

One of the witches residing in the swamps. She has to be rescued in order to gain information to the whereabouts of the Hydra's head.


  • Burn the Witch!: She was almost on the receiving end of it by Gabriel. The Disciples rescue her as she was crucial to finding the Hydra head's whereabouts.

    Solomon Kane 
A Demon Hunter who was involved in the Great Hunt years ago. Since his death, he has been buried in a tomb memorialized to him.
  • Posthumous Character: Solomon has been dead for years by the time the Devil and his Disciples have come hunting for the Lantern.

    Stingy Jack 

A trickster who once made a deal to never be admitted to Hell in exchange for his soul. His luck ran out after having been killed by Dante, who covets the Eye of the Wyvern in his possession.


  • Barred from the Afterlife: Because Jack bargained to never be admitted to Hell, he wasn't able to enter Paradise either, resulting in him roaming as a wandering spirit in a forgotten graveyard.
  • Stingy Jack: He is named after the titular character, down to sharing the lore of selling his soul in return for never being admitted to Hell and having a pumpkin for a head after his death.
  • Pumpkin Person: Jack's second resurrection has him placed in his old corpse and have a pumpkin for a head.

    Mina Murray 

Dracula's vampire "child", who is crucial to knowing the location of the Collar of Cerberus.


  • Attack on the Heart: Mina was attacked and had her heart removed at Jonathan's hands under orders of the Fox Sisters. She gets better later.

    Jonathan Harker 

Mina's beloved. Torn between lingering love for Mina and fear of the Fox sisters who ordered him to acquire her heart, he would do anything to be with her again.


  • Be Careful What You Wish For: In return for providing information on the whereabouts of the Fox Sisters, Jonathan asked for Mina to be brought back to him alive. This bites him the butt when the Disciples bring Mina back to him alive - but still a vampire - and is turned into a ghoul by her, bound to her forever.

    The Spinner 

A young, unhinged woman the Disciples discover while searching for the Spinning Wheel of the Fates. In return for protecting her from justice, she is offered a role in using the artifact for the Devil's cause.


  • Assassination Attempt: She was almost on the receiving end of an assassin's blade while leading the Disciples to the Spinning Wheel. The Disciples put a stop to that quickly.
