Alter Ego: Kenan Kong

First Appearance: New Super-Man #1 (September, 2016)

Kong Kenan, like Clark Kent, is a young man of humble means, being the son of an auto-mechanic. He's also a selfish, arrogant jerk. However, an act of bravery lands him on the radar of China's Ministry of Self-Reliance, who enlist him to act as China's Super-Man. Together with China's Wonder-Woman and Bat-Man, the three form the Justice League of China as part of a government attempt to curtail the rise of Western-style supercriminals in China.

  • Anthropomorphic Personification: In issue #18, Kenan becomes the embodiment of Yin and Yang.
  • Attention Whore: He publicly outs himself as the New Super-Man in issue #2, and reveals the existence of the Justice League of China when a camera crew is put in front of him. He gets better about this with time.
  • Book Dumb: Despite frequently slacking in his studies, Kenan displays several moments of ingenuity. He even impresses Bat-Man!
  • Butt-Monkey: Much of the humor in this series comes from the various ways Kenan falls on his face.
  • Casanova Wannabe: Kenan flirts with almost every woman he sees. It never works.
  • Character Development: Kenan goes from a belligerent bully with a noble streak to someone worthy of the title of Superman (or Super-Man, as the case may be).
  • The Chew Toy: Kenan's many injuries are played for laughs.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Kenan was already a brave young man willing to stand up to supervillains. Now, he has superpowers to help him.
  • Flying Brick: Has all the powers of Superman.
  • Iron Butt-Monkey: Takes his shockings, beatings, and laser-shots to the face in stride.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Kenan is a cocky, belligerent bully who nevertheless is brave and goes out of his way to save others.
  • Ki Manipulation: Kenan acquired his Kryptonian powers by being infused with Superman's qi. His different abilities are activated by focusing his ki to different body parts related to them.
  • Meditation Powerup: His Yin and Yang forms are accessed through meditating on the respective subjects.
  • Missing Mom: Kenan's mother died in an airplane accident when he was twelve, something which haunts him to this day.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: His opening pages have him describing himself as being "broad-shouldered, handsome like a movie star, and tall (but not in a freaky, Yao Ming kind of a way)." He is not broad-shouldered nor tall nor particularly handsome.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: He gets kinder as his series goes on, and under Superman's influence.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: At the end of the day, Kenan just wants his father to notice him. This might be why he latches on quite eagerly to Superman.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: His Yin and Yang forms are very powerful, but come with affecting his mindset. His Yang form leans towards being tyrannical, while his Yin form is apathetic to the point of obliviousness to his surroundings.
  • Yin-Yang Bomb: As the embodiment of Yin and Yang, Kenan has control over light and darkness.

Alter Ego: Wang Baixi

First Appearance: New Super-Man #1 (September, 2016)

The Batman of China.

  • Acrofatic: Chinese Bat-Man looks out of shape but can still do most of Batman's acrobatics.
  • Always Someone Better: Wang Baixi earned the cowl of Bat-Man of China, but he was outdone at the training school by his own little sister. And then she turns out to be a supervillain in the making.
  • Ascended Fanboy: Baixi geeks out over Batman and asks him to autograph his cape. Batman isn't amused.
  • Badass Normal: Bat-Man has no powers unlike the others Justice Leaguers, but like his U.S. equivalent, is not portrayed as less effective of a fighter for it.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Each member of the Justice League of China is assigned a different colour, which is prominently displayed in their respective uniforms: Bat-Man's is Blue.
  • Not So Above It All: Though Bat-Man tries to be The Stoic to counterbalance Super-Man's immaturity, he behaves like an excited child while meeting his American counterpart, even annoying Bruce by requesting him to autograph his cape.

Alter Ego: Peng Deilan

First Appearance: New Super-Man #1 (September, 2016)

The Wonder Woman of China.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Peng Deilan calls Kenan "Dummy" even after she's bonded with him.
  • Animorphism: Deilan is injured during the battle against Fahai and Superman Zero, causing her to return to her original form as a giant green snake.
  • Captain Ethnic: Wonder-Woman replaces the original's stars-stripes-eagle motif with a dragon-themed Anime Chinese Girl look not to mention being Xiaoqing from Legend of the White Snake
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Each member of the Justice League of China is assigned a different colour, which is prominently displayed in their respective uniforms: Wonder-Woman's is Green.
  • Crossover Cosmology: Peng Deilan is actually Xiaoqing, aka the Green Snake in Legend of the White Snake. She and Wonder Woman are friends, both with each other and mutually of Hanuman.
  • Older Than They Look: Deilan casually mentions to Baixi how he knows she spent two centuries living inside a rock before she was found by the Ministry.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Deilan had been turned into a stone statue for 200 years.

Alter Ego: Ahn Kwang-Jo

First Appearance: New Super-Man and the Justice League of China #20 (April, 2018)

The Aquaman of North Korea. Later known as Dragonson.

  • Eye Scream: Kwang-Jo loses his left eye during a confrontation with the North Korean army. The injury is covered by an eyepatch made out of coral upon his transformation into Dragonson.
  • Foreign Culture Fetish: Ahn Kwang-Jo has a predilection for a cartoon about a family with yellow skin - and no, we're not talking about racist asian caricatures. He has to resort to illegal means to watch it in his home country, though.
"The s-son is always telling his father, "Don't have a cow, man!"
  • In Name Only: Discussed in-universe. The media labels Kwang-Jo as the "Chinese Aquaman", even though he is North Korean and actually possesses a completely different powerset.
  • Overly-Nervous Flop Sweat: Subverted. Kwang-Jo starts sweating profusely while being taken away to be interrogated by the North Korean army. However, this turns out to not be a sign of stress, but the first manifestation of his latent hydrokinetic powers.
  • Politeness Judo: Kwang-Jo roasts Kenan after trouncing him in a fighting game several times by thanking him for going easy on him.
  • Treated Worse than the Pet: Kwang-Jo is initially a fervent believer in the ideals of North Korea, having been indoctrinated into the nation's Cult of Personality from an early age. But after living on little for so long, Kwang-Jo is stunned when the Justice League of China takes him to China to recover, as even the dogs in China eat better than the commonfolk of North Korea.

Alter Ego: Avery Ho

First Appearance: The Flash vol. 5 #3 (July, 2016)

"You got all those fancy Superman powers like X-ray vision and super-strength. All I do is run. You really think you can beat me at my one thing?"

When a Speed Force storm hit Central City, Avery was one of the citizens granted superspeed. Initially baring an unstable, incomplete connection to the Speed Force, she was unable to stop vibrating. With the assistance of the Barry Allen, she managed to stop and later began her training under Meena Dawhan. However, she reluctantly gave up her powers so that the Speed Force could be made whole again. Unbeknownst to Barry and Meena, Avery actually gained a full connection to the Speed Force after it was made whole. With this power, she found herself working with the China White Triad against Lex Luthor before moving to China, where she was dubbed the Flash of China and joined the Justice League of China.
