Flynn Taggert, AKA The Doomslayer
The ancient warrior that fought alongside the Night Sentinels of Argent D'Nur and the unyielding force of violence and destruction that brought terror to the forces of hell for eons. After defeating the spider mastermind and preventing a demonic invasion on Earth, he was swiftly betrayed by Samuel Hayden as he then finds himself displaced in an alternate universe where superpowers, superheroes and supervillains exist. But until he can find a way to return to his universe, the Doomslayer will soon begin his war upon the forces of evil that plague this world…

  • Adaptational Badass: The Doomslayer gets this treatment in spades. While already incredibly badass in the canon Doom (2016) universe, given the lore introduced in the canon sequel DOOM Eternal, he is capable of destroying a literal black hole with his bare hands, unscathed after being hit by blasts of intensely powerful flames, and takes on multiple top-level Heroes with nary a scratch; only All Might actually damages his armor, yet he ultimately falls to the Doomslayer as well. And when later preparing to wage his war against AFO, VEGA upgrades his arsenal with several new weapons, such as the newly built Sawtana’s, including a literal tank motorcycle to unleash upon his foes.
  • The Ageless: He has physically stopped aging a long time ago, as he looks no different now than how he looked when he first entered Hell as a young adult as Argent D'Nur fell to the demon armies. And when VEGA unfortunately estimates it would take at least seventy years to build a machine to send them back home, merely shrugs since his sense of time became quite warped given he has become effectively immortal.
  • Acquired Poison Immunity: Doom Slayer is unaffected by toxins or sleeping agents like Midnight's sleeping gas since he has long since adapted to breathing Hell's noxious and deadly atmosphere.
  • A Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Read: given the endless horrors, suffering and death he has witnessed in the course of his ancient life against the slaves of Doom, that left him broken at one point before being returning to sanity when landing on Argent D’Nur, it’s safe to say his mind is not a place anyone should ever delve into or know how it works. Unfortunately for Ragdoll as she scans into the Doom Slayer’s mind, and ends up with her own mind snapping like a twig in less than a minute after doing so.
  • Armor of Invincibility: Thanks to the Slayer's Praetorian armor being forged by a rogue Demon known as "The Wretch" and then later technologically enhanced by the UAC, bullets shatter like glass against him and explosives barely make him stagger. It even stands up to Endeavor's flames at their hottest temperatures. That being said, All Might has proven capable of denting it albeit only through using his strongest attacks.
  • Anti-Hero: The Doomslayer is practically the textbook definition of this role, as it wasn’t before long the Doomslayer began to brutally kill and maim any villains that were in his sights. Yet he takes it to the degree that literally everyone in MHA is left in stunned horror and shock by the sheer brutality of his actions, as it is beyond unprecedented. Leaving many like Ochako traumatized after seeing him tear off Shigaraki’s own arm and proceed to brutally pummel the villain with it. The siege of I-Island only takes it up to eleven as everyone witnesses the Doomslayer utterly destroy the Steel Sabers with sheer violence and savage brutality. But not even the heroes aren’t exempt as they try to stop him, albeit are given a far more merciful treatment compared to what he does to villains. Yet this is what makes him instantly branded as an extremely violent vigilante that every hero in Japan believes is a psychopath that needs to be stopped and apprehended immediately. Yet despite his barbarity, the Doom Slayer would never dare to harm any innocents and in his own way sought to save the people of I-island from the terrorists occupying the island; as he still has his firm strong morals and sense of duty to protect the lives of innocent people. If anything he believes the heroes of this world are far too much like "Boy Scouts" and should’ve put down the Steel Sabers a long time ago given their numerous war crimes. Yet it’s clear he wasn’t always like this, as it seems His Start of Darkness appears to have been getting reassigned to Mars in his early days after assaulting a superior officer for trying to open fire on civilians.
  • The Berserker: Despite his onslaughts against the League of Villains and the Steel Sabers, the Doom Slayer is a very stoic figure given his helmet hides his face and doesn’t speak at all. Not to mention he doesn’t act really violent whenever he’s around civilians, and the crook he stumbled on was the only villain to ever not be brutalized by him. But don’t be fooled, when it comes to actual monsters like Shigaraki or terrorists like the Steel Sabers, then prepare for an absolute massacre to be unleashed by the bane of hell itself.
  • Berserk Button: The Slayer is not pleased when the League of Villains tries to harm Miruko due to her reminding him of both his deceased wife Emily and his dead rabbit Daisy. Wolfram is stupid enough to smash it after he impales Miruko with rebar on I-Island.
    • The Slayer despises anyone who would dare hurt kids. Earlier, as he had begun his rampage against the Steel Sabers, The Slayer caught a few of the militia members keeping a bunch of kids and their teacher hostage and were about to fire at them. Needless to say, the Slayer’s vision turned crimson and immediately proceeded to save the hostages by brutally killing the Steel Sabers.
  • Broken Ace: For all that Taggart has become undeniably the greatest warrior forged by Argent D’Nur, become the literal bane of hell and wrought terror and destruction to the demons of the dark realm for several millennia’s that have etched fear and chaos amongst the demons and the Makyr’s, at the end of the day The Slayer at his core is a man built upon tragedy. He had already been seeded with violence when he struck his commanding officer for trying to kill civilians during his placement on Mars, but was truly set on the path of hatred and bloodlust as he witnessed his family and friends killed by the demons when they attacked his world. amongst those being his pet bunny Daisy and his beloved wife who perished during the demonic invasion.. Alongside witnessing the devastation of his original universe, enduring years fighting the demons in hell and for a while went completely insane before becoming the warrior king amongst the Night Sentinels. Only to witness the fall of Argent D’Nur, and enduring eons of physical and mental torment from both fighting through Hell with only his traumatic memories to comfort him, that it's nothing short of a miracle that he's still got some level of his humanity left.
  • Big Damn Heroes: The Doom Slayer makes his Dynamic Entry from the elevator shaft of I-Island's central tower just as Miruko's about to Hold the Line against the recovered League of Villains operatives to help Izuku's group and Melissa Shields escape.
  • Blood Knight: Given the numerous millennia’s he has spent decimating the forces of hell and tearing apart demons like they were fruit, it’s no wonder then that when fighting against humans or villains his brutal combat style is no different. Thus he would leave his human foes as nothing more than destroyed chunks of meat that leave even those like Bakugo balking.
  • Blood-Splattered Warrior: With the Doomslayer, what do you expect? He was already this back when he decimated the demons invading the UAC’s Mars base, but once the Slayer lands on I-Island, it isn’t before long that he is coated in the blood of his enemies after killing thousands of Sabers in Chapter 15.
  • Bullet Catch: A Steel Saber tank gunner fires a shell at the Slayer in a desperate attempt to kill him. But The Slayer just ends up catching it with one hand like it was a baseball.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: The Doom Slayer may be a ancient savage demon slaying warrior that’s been around for countless centuries, and is extremely intimidating, but at his core is still a man who wants to protect the innocent and has his moments where his humanity can shine through in brief moments. Heck Mirko in particular seems to be one of those, as the battle loving bunny hero reminds him a lot of both his dead pet rabbit Daisy and his long dead wife, both of whom perished against the demons.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Doomslayer has been long desensitized to the violence he inflicts against any threat to innocents thanks to his ten millennia long crusade against Hell. While the Heroes recognize that Slayer has enough sense to hold back against them, the bloody slaughter Slayer leaves in his wake is far too much for any of the cast to stomach. His propensity for violence is simply unheard of and the body count following the I-Island bloodbath is higher than most heroes see in their whole careers. While they do begrudgingly acknowledge he did save the hostages from the Steel Sabers and the LOV, the heroes cannot let The Slayer walk away as they deem him as a massively dangerous threat to hero society. The only person in the MHA-verse who even remotely has a clue to the reasons behind Slayer's brutality is Ragdoll, and her mind snapped like a twig after trying to read his. Heck, it literally took an archangel to come and restore her mind from the psychological damage caused by seeing into the Doomslayer’s head.
  • Combat Pragmatist: To put it in simple terms, the Doomslayer does NOT play by the same rules as the heroes and villains do. When he enters a battle, he gets straight into the fight and proceeds to decimate every single enemy in his sight without mercy or hesitation. The second he sees a villain that has endangered the lives of innocent people? Then BAM, you get your armed torn off before even realizing it. just like Shigaraki did. Or if your plotting to cause pandemonium as the heroes are stretched thin? Then prepare to be ambushed by the Slayer on his newly built tank motorcycle as he wastes no time massacring all the villains inside the warehouse with his new weapons for being solely connected to AFO. Yet apart of all that, is due to the fact that unlike all these heroes and villains who rely heavily on their quirks to fight, the Doomslayer just needs his highly advanced guns to fight. Oh and the fact that he is a literal demigod also helps a lot.
  • Creepy Good: The Slayer despite his extremely intimidating and downright terrifying appearance alongside the sheer amount of violence and bloodshed he leaves in his wake, is still a man who devoted himself to always protecting the lives of innocent people from the forces of evil wether they be from the demons or currently AFO and the villains. Heck some heroes actually acknowledge that The Slayer was trying to save the hostages from the Steel Sabers, yet due to their Black-and-White Morality it cannot justify the sheer brutality he displayed and brand him as a violent vigilante that needs to be stopped.
  • Crisis of Faith: Flynn Taggert used to be a devout Catholic back on his homeworld before his war against hell. His encounter with the Makyr’s has severely damaged his faith and can only wonder if the angels of the MHA universe are any different. little does he know, they have been keeping an eye on him and wondering how they should handle him, or if he will become a threat to the world they vowed to protect.
  • Conditioned to Accept Horror: Thanks to the eons of horrors that he's had to witness and endure fighting the Slaves of Doom, he cannot feel any fear towards anything else the universe could throw at him and would prefer to brutalize them on sight. Unfortunately for the people of My Hero Academia, they don’t share that same desensitization to fear, and are left utterly terrified by his bloody actions on I-island.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Promptly after being displaced in the world of My Hero Academia and adjusting to his surroundings thanks to VEGA, The Slayer feels lost for a while, not knowing what to do with himself besides killing criminals. And unfortunately learning it will take seventy years till a portal to return to his universe is made, doesn’t help either. But when VEGA learns of All For One and tells him about the ancient villain and the vicious cycle between the users of OFA, the Slayer decides his purpose is to hunt him down and terminate him and end that cycle until VEGA can build a way back to his universe.
  • Destructive Savior: When the Doomslayer is set on his warpath, nothing in his path survives. Not only does he end up killing the ENTIRE Steel Saber organization as thousands of mercenaries end up dead in less than a few hours, but to prevent the detonation of the VX Gas warhead ends up causing the near devastation of I-island as its half destroyed by the end of the battle. Which causes plenty of uproar as I-Island was where the peak of technological innovation was done within Japan, if not the world. Thus in the public’s eye alongside the HPSC, The Slayer dealt a blow in that department.
  • Determinator: In case you forgot, this is the man who fought through Hell for untold millennia’s and did it all solely on a mix of unending rage and unstoppable willpower. And after everything he has lost to the demons, is a man who's damn well going to see his mission of wiping out demonkind from existence and destroying the Makyr’s through to the end. Yet while that objective is on a standstill until he can return home, will see to it that AFO is wiped out from the face of the earth before the next user of OFA has to sacrifice themselves like his predecessors had.
  • Dynamic Entry: The Doom Slayer arrives on the rooftop where the VX Gas warhead is located by using an elevator car to slingshot himself up the shaft the car is in during chapter 17, punching through the roof in the process.
  • DoomedHometown: The demons long ago destroyed Taggart’s hometown and killed everyone he loved and cared for. Needless to say he has sought bloody revenge ever since that day and to see the utter eradication of the demons come to pass.
  • DoubleJump: Thanks to the mechanical extensions in his boots alongside his divinely enhanced physiology, he can give himself a mid-air boost to reach further heights.
  • The Dreaded: The Slayer was already this to the demons, but he quickly earns a terrifying reputation in MHA through his patented blend of ultraviolence. His first encounter with Shigaraki and Dabi leaves the normally smug villains scared shitless of him. And in the aftermath of slaughtering the Steel Sabers, thousands of fully trained hero-killing mercenaries that were holding everyone on I-Island hostage, leaving most of the Heroes and Villains in Japan outright frightened of him. Even All Might's blood ran cold while having to watch the I-Island bloodbath, noting that he's never seen such a level of savagery in his long career as a hero. This even extends to The Ascendant Realm and the Prime Council, who initially thought the Slayer was nothing but a myth; and when he's confirmed to be real, both sides are at a loss as to what to do with him.
  • Enemy Rising Behind: The Doom Slayer comes right behind three Steel Sabers mercenaries making a televised demand to the public. They remain ignorant of the Slayer's presence - as Nine cannot warn them since VEGA had shut down their communications - until he pulls out his infamous chainsaw in full view of everyone watching and proceeds to tear them apart.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Because no one has any idea who the Slayer is, let alone his actual name, everyone merely calls him "The Vigilante".
  • Facepalm Of Doom: The Doom Slayer non-fatally grabs Midnight's face and pulls her inside Cementoss' prison before knocking her out.
  • Gorn: Every single encounter between the Doom Slayer and any of the villains results in this, usually taken to the extreme. In the later parts of the Steel Sabers arc, the streets of I-Island are literally choked with blood, and plenty of scenes show him tearing out spines and crushing skulls in terrifyingly brutal fashions.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: While far from a traditional hero, Slayer ends up on the shitlist of both sides of the law by the end of the I-Island fiasco, the League of Villains want him dead for nearly killing Shigaraki and the Heroes intend to capture him for butchering the Steel Sabers while rescuing civilian hostages, unintentionally destroying Ragdoll's sanity and beating down the Heroes sent to apprehend him. The only reason the Heroes aren't focusing solely on him is because of the chaos caused by so many Pros being out of action after I-Island and need to keep the villains wanting to seize this opportunity from causing mayhem. Little do they know, The Slayer is currently busy dealing with said villains, albeit far more gruesomely.
  • Hyperspace Arsenal: Just like in canon, the Doomslayer is able to keep his insanely dense arsenal and deploy whatever weapon he needs at a second thought. Though while it’s clear it’s due to his demonic forged, technologically enhanced armor and Seraphim augmented physiology that allow for him to store his weapons in what is a borderline pocket dimension, the rest of heroes including detective Naomasa believed it was his "quirk" alongside his superhuman abilities. Only to be completely proven wrong when the heroes fight The Slayer on I-island as Aizawa’s quirk has ZERO effect on the ancient warrior
  • Honor Before Reason: The heroes in MHA have strict moral codes given they are basically a superpowered police force, so it's expected that a lot of them aren't going to accept the Slayer's brutal actions, much to his chagrin. The Slayer inverts this hard due to his eternal war against the forces of Hell desensitizing him to all forms of violence, and if anything the moral codes of the Heroes confuses him more than anything as he deems them being too much like "Boy Scouts". In short, he would rather take out any threat to innocent life immediately than leave it to the authorities and pro-heroes who would endanger lives in his eyes by trying to apprehend these villains alive. This is demonstrated when he nearly kills Shigaraki and Dabi if not for Kurogiri's Warp Gate teleporting them at the last minute.
  • Immune to Fate: Usiel and the seers from the other pantheons ultimately discover the Slayer's fate is completely unwritten and seems to have the ability to alter the fate of those around him. Word of God confirms this was inspired by Goblin Slayer's seemingly hidden ability of "not letting anyone roll the dice".
  • Improvised Weapon: During the earlier parts of the I-Island assault, to be stealthier, the Slayer makes use of some saw blades, rebar, a sledgehammer, and a fire axe, all to deadly effect. He also ends up using a turret from an APC against the Sabers when he quits using stealth and gets loud.
  • The Law of Diminishing Defensive Effort: Thanks to The Slayer's Praetor armor and the fact he had long since become a literal demigod, The Doom Slayer is able to afford tanking numerous guns, APC’s firing on him without so much as worrying about being killed. Yet the only person to have actually put a dent in his armor was Allmight himself, and even then, it took his strongest attack to do so.
  • Mythology Gag: The Slayer's name and backstory come from the novelization of the first DOOM game, where his name was Flynn Taggert and he was reassigned to Mars as punishment for assaulting a superior officer in response to that officer ordering him to shoot civilians. He openly mentions that the last non-zombified or corrupted human he fought was that officer shortly after seeing a robbery.
  • Never Hurt an Innocent: The Slayer is a One-Man Army Berserker who doesn't hesitate to kill, butcher, and maim demons, criminal's, villains, and anyone who endangers innocent lives, but when facing off against pro heroes who either try to stop him from reaching I-Island or departing after he eradicates nearly every last villain involved, he holds back and only knocks them out because he knows most of them are good people just doing their jobs. Even if he finds the Heroes methods to be quite baffling.
  • Technologically Advanced Foe: The Doom Slayer's arsenal and Praetor Suit are currently among the most advanced pieces of technology in the MHA world, with Pro-Heroes shocked at some of the weapons he's got access to and not even a barrage of bullets or Endeavor's strongest attacks can break through his armor. Not to mention the fact he is literally accompanied by an actual artificial intelligence who provided major support throughout The Slayer’s raid on I-island. Yet the only person so far that's capable of making a dent in his armor (as in literally) is All Might.
  • Terror Hero: The Doom Slayer quickly establishes himself as one of the most brutal Vigilantes in Japan due to his propensity for violence stemming from his centuries-long battle against the demons of Hell. Ochako is mentally scarred for life after witnessing him tearing off Shigaraki's right arm with his bare hands, All Might himself is left stunned by the Slayer's sheer brutality after having seen nothing like it in his long career as a hero, and the Slayer more or less traumatizes the rest of Class 1-A alongside the pro-heroes who arrive after tearing apart the Steel Sabres on I-Island.
  • Troll: The Slayer can't help but indulge in this when he's faced with opponents that are too big for their britches and quite frankly are very overconfident. Most notably, his "fight" with Endeavor in Chapter 20 consists of the Slayer just letting the Pro Hero ineffectively pelt him with his most powerful attacks before casually wiping nonexistent soot off his armor just to mess with him. Then, he not only lets Endeavor pummel him, he walks backwards to make Endeavor think he's doing damage. After the Slayer has his fun, he finally decides to humble Endeavor and show him what real strength is.

"Hello, I am VEGA, the sentient intelligence assigned to Mars."

VEGA is a highly advanced Artificial Intelligence created by the UAC to originally manage the Mars facility. When the demonic incursion broke out on Mars and the Doomslayer was freed from his prison, he was later backed up into his Praetor suit, becoming his companion and aided his efforts to defeat the demons. And when he alongside The Slayer were later displaced into the world of My Hero Academia, VEGA has become an invaluable companion to The Slayer while they remain stranded in this alternate Earth.
