A 13-year-old Hispanic boy who is Anne Boonchuy's childhood friend and the main OC character in the fanfic.

  • Animal Motifs: Frank can be associated with the dog, as he once had one for a pet. He's clever, has Undying Loyalty to his friends, and is brave when the situation calls for it. He's also not afraid to call out those who wrong him and/or his friends, wanting retribution.
  • Badass Cape: Following the battle of Toad Tower, Frank replaces his M65 jacket with a green poncho Mrs. Croaker sews for him for his trip to Newtopia in the second part of the story.
  • Badass Normal: Although Frank does not have any skills, he is able to fight against various monsters such as giant mantises or spiders with bats. This changes in the 23rd chapter when Frank awakens his Calamity form under intense rage.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Although Sprig and Polly sometimes irritate Frank, he cares about them.
  • Blunt "Yes": When they're about to fight in Chapter 23, Sasha asks if Frank is prepared to fight her for "just some slimy frogs". Frank's reply? Yes. Yes he is.
  • Covered in Scars: There is various fanart depicting Frank with numerous scars he received from his time in Amphibia.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Frank's life turned upside-down when he was accused of stealing a pair of shoes that somebody dropped over a bridge and landed on his head when he was walking home from baseball practice. The store manager's assistant knew right away that he was innocent, but her boss did not believe either of them and manipulated her to testify against Frank or she'd lose her job. To make matters worse, his parents refused to believe that he was innocent. Frank was sentenced to 10 months in juvenile hall while Anne and her friends figured out what happened when gossip started to spread around the school. Even before that, Frank's family was having financial trouble, and him being in prison made things worse, so they had to sell the house and move into a rented apartment. After he was let out, Principal Murphy tried to let him back into school, but was overruled by the superintendent (who is Maggie's father), who said that Frank was dangerous and shouldn't be around normal kids. Feeling that he didn't want to be a burden to his parents, Frank moved in with his grandmother after her husband passed away. Chapter 23 reveals that the real shoe thief was none other than Sasha, his Evil Former Friend.
  • Enraged by Idiocy: Anne's less than rational actions that get them in trouble at best and almost killed at worst, often grinds Frank's gears.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Frank sometimes acts too angry and violent, but he truly loves and cares for Anne and the Plantars. Although his behavior is understandable given his past.
  • Losing a Shoe in the Struggle: Before he and Anne arrived in Amphibia, Frank originally wore a pair of boots. Upon arriving, he loses those boots, leaving him barefooted. He eventually receives a pair of sandals from Marcy at the end of Chapter 28.
  • Mirror Character: Frank Ramirez and Sasha Waybright ironically. They are both teenagers with parental issues and a troubled past. But unlike Sasha, Frank never became a bully and remained a good person.
  • The One Guy: He is the only male human to be transported to Amphibia along with the girls.
  • Scars Are Forever: In the "Toad Tax" chapter, he gains two scars on his face during his fight with Tartarus: a small one on his left cheek, and a large one on his right eye. In the following chapter, after Anne removes the bandages from his head, Frank's eye scar still remains. He later gains a smaller scar on the right side of his mouth from Sasha in Chapter 23 during their duel at Toad Tower.
  • Signature Headgear: Frank wears a blue baseball hat all the time, which makes sense since he was part of the SJMS baseball team.
  • Sinister Scythe: Frank's preferred weapon, which is actually made from the claw of a praying mantis. It gets destroyed in Chapter 13 by Lieutenant Tartarus, though he gets a new one in Chapter 16, which turns out to be a Legendary Weapon called Hellcat's Claw, which, according to Valeriana in Chapter 19, belonged to the original Frog King of Amphibia.
  • Tragic Keepsake: He has two that once belonged to his grandfather before he passed away: his M65 jacket and combat knife.
  • Undying Loyalty: Despite Anne's less-than-stellar loyalty to him in the past, Frank still insists on protecting her to his last breath. He's also this to the Plantars for letting him and Anne live in their house, which is why he refuses to go along with Sasha's plan to hand Hop Pop to the toads to be executed.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Frank is understandably furious with Anne for stealing from his family's store. It was only being sent to Amphibia that stopped Frank from going further. He also calls her out on ditching her share of the chores on the farm and trying to make him do her dirty work.
  • Would Hit a Girl: The first thing Frank does when he and Anne see Sasha in Amphibia is slug her in the face for getting Anne to end their friendship and steal the Calamity Box, which got them all Trapped in Another World, much to the girls' surprise.

Anne Boonchuy

A 13-year-old Thai girl who is Frank Ramirez's best friend and the deuteragonist of the fanfic. They both got into Amphibia and are now looking for a way back.

  • Action Girl: Just like in the original show, Anne is a tough girl who can fight giant monsters alongside Frank. In Chapter 9, she receives a personal weapon, a bow, from a giant spider's lair.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Here Anne gets it much worse than in canon. First she finds herself in another world full of giant snakes and insects with her former best friend. Then almost dies a bunch of times and she even gets a scar thanks to Tritonio in Chapter 21. Afterwards, she finally reunites with Sasha in Chapter 23, thinking that now she and Frank can forgive each other and together they can find Marcy, only to find out that not only is she going to execute Hop Hop, but that it was her who framed Frank and he went to prison. If this isn't enough, Sasha slaps her in the face.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: In several chapters, she continues to argue with Frank no matter how many times he saves her life.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: There are hints throughout the chapters that Anne likes when Frank acts serious.
  • Gasshole: In Chapter 18, Anne asks Frank if she can sleep in his bed with him and he agrees... only for her to fart and tell him to deal with it.
  • Saying Too Much: Anne accidentally reveals to Sprig and Frank that Sasha got her to break off her friendship with the latter, rather than it being her own choice to do so. Frank doesn't take it well.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: She might as well be on her way to becoming one during the story's progress, as she does whatever it takes to come to Frank's defense, even if she resorts to killing anyone or anything such as a pack of cicadas or a giant alligator.

Sprig Plantar

A 10-year-old adventurous frog who met and became friends with Anne and Frank.

  • Adaptational Badass: Even though Sprig was already brave in the canon, in this fic, he does cool things like fight giant bats or a mutant pumpkin.
  • Adaptational Dumbass: In this story, Sprig continues to ruin things despite Frank's warnings.
  • Humans Are Cthulhu: As in canon, Sprig initially sees Anne (and now Frank) as monsters who want to eat him.
  • Morality Pet: Sprig is like that to Frank and Anne.

Polly Plantar

Sprig's sister and granddaughter of Hop Pop and friend of Anne and Frank.

  • Demoted to Extra: Played With. Polly participates in this fanfic much less than in canon. But in Chapter 18, she and Frank save Anne, Sprig and Hop Pop from a family of cannibals. In fact, she joins Frank and Anne when they wander around Newtopia in Chapter 31.

Hop Pop Plantar

Grandfather of Sprig and Polly and it was he who sheltered Frank and Anne.

  • Grumpy Old Man: Like in canon, Hop Pop has little patience for tomfoolery and is quick to punish misbehavior.
  • Shipper on Deck: He is very supportive of the idea of Frank and Anne becoming an item.

    Antagonists

Tartarus

The original Lieutenant of Toad Tower who comes to Wartwood to collect taxes

  • Asshole Victim: It's easy to say that Tartarus fully deserved his death from Frank.
  • The Dragon: He was like this for Grime since he was second in command.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Although Frank was wanted for killing him, many toads and even Grime himself disliked Tartarus due to his ego.
  • Villainous Legacy: After his death, Frank becomes a wanted criminal by Toad Tower with wanted posters of him posted everywhere, while Sasha becomes the new 1st Lieutenant to Captain Grime.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Had no problem trying to kill Frank, who is only 13 years old.
