Protagonist

    Marzipan
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marziportrait.png
"(Maybe this whole thing was a bad idea....)"
Also appears in: Lonely Wolf Treat (chapter 4), Dress Treat! (costume only), another piece of candy (audition event)
The protagonist of Spooky Soiree. A shy witch specializing in light magic who has never been kissed before, she attends the soirée in order to find romance.
  • Child of Two Worlds: The remake of Wandering Wolf Trick reveals that her father is a human, and that she gets better along with humans and demons than she does with other witches. This might explain why she is currently the only witch shown to enjoy modern technology such as cell phones and video games.
  • Cute Witch: Marzipan is a sweet girl who can use magic to create beautiful light shows and Instant Cosplay Surprises.
  • Nervous Wreck: She is really, really anxious about getting her first kiss, and is fully prepared to give up and go home if things don't go her way. Once she gets her kiss, though, she immediately calms down and realizes it wasn't such a big deal.
  • Official Couple: Starry Flowers and her appearance in another piece of candy show that the canon route of Spooky Soiree was kissing her friend Jam, as they've been dating ever since.

Major Characters

    Jam
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jamportrait.png
"Maaarz~ I can tell you're scheming something. Spot someone you like?"
Also appears in: Starry Flowers, Lonely Wolf Treat (chapter 4), another piece of candy (audition event)
Marzipan's best friend and self-proclaimed familiar, an extroverted cat girl who likes going to parties. She accompanies Marzipan to the soirée to help her get her first kiss.
  • Cat Girl: A female cat animal folk.
  • Matchmaker Crush: As it turns out, she herself has had a crush on Marzipan for quite some time. She still tries to set Marzipan up with other people, because she doesn't think Marzipan would like her back.
  • Official Couple: Her route is the canon ending to Spooky Soiree, as she and Marzipan are dating in all subsequent appearances.
  • Romantic Wingman: She takes it upon herself to help Marzipan achieve her goal of getting her first kiss.

    Poffin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/poffinportrait.png
"Pleased to make your acquaintance, Lady Marzipan! Welcome to Our most splendiferous soirée!"
Also appears in: another piece of candy, Dress Treat! (costume only), Starry Flowers (non-speaking cameo), Princess Poffin and the Spider Invasion
Daughter of the Royal Moth Family that lives in Chirval's attic.
  • Ascended Extra: Following her appearance in Spooky Soiree, she'd star as the main character of her own self-titled game.
  • Cape Wings: Her moth wings can morph into a cape.
  • Commonality Connection: In Princess Poffin and the Spider Invasion, she immediately forgives the Spider Princess for infiltrating the Moth Kingdom and leaving webs of bad-tasting silk everywhere, even ceding a corner of the attic territory to the spiders, because all the basement-dwelling spiders wanted was for a better view of the moonlight that Poffin is enamored by.
  • Companion Cube: One strip of another piece of candy has her claiming that she's in a relationship with the full moon.
  • Cuddle Bug: The first fanmail event of another piece of candy has Poffin's greatest desire upon magically becoming human-sized being to hug Baezel with her human-sized arms, to Baezel's own exasperation.
  • Forgetful Jones: In another piece of candy, despite playing through the entire Demon's Gaea series with Baezel and Baezel frequently talking about and dressing like his favorite character from it, Poffin is never able to remember who "Majiko" is.
  • Furry Reminder: Poffin is a moth girl who likes bright lights and, according to supplementary material, eating socks.
  • Our Demons Are Different: In the "moth facts" strip of another piece of candy, Poffin explains that most bug folks are actually a species of demon, which is why they have more humanoid features than bug features.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: another piece of candy shows that she and Baezel hang out and play video games together, and Poffin gladly gives Baezel a human-sized hug when she is magically able to. However, they aren't attracted to each other; Poffin is "dating" the moon, and Baezel is an asexual whose "type" is Majiko from the Demon's Gaea series.
  • Royal "We": With a capital 'W'. Somehow, Poffin's speech pattern didn't immediately tip Marzipan off that she is talking to a princess.
  • Wallet Moths: Her first appearance in another piece of candy has her mistaken as one, with Moxie capturing her in a wallet and then using her to try and bargain for sweets at Syrup's candy store.
  • What's Up, King Dude?: She is very casual and sociable for a princess.

    Chirval
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chirvalportrait.png
"You seem like a good witch. Jam tells everyone as much, and I believe her."
Also appears in: another piece of candy (guest appearance), Starry Flowers (non-speaking cameo)
The host of the party, a charismatic incubus.

    Baezel
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/baezelportrait.png
"M-my brother is... um... a little pushy... I'm sorry..."
Click here to see him in cosplay.
Also appears in: Sex Advice Succubus, another piece of candy
Chirval's younger, less charismatic brother. A huge fan of the Demon's Gaea series.
  • Eyes Out of Sight: His bangs completely cover his eyes, to fit with his shyness. When he's cosplaying, and feeling confident doing so, his bangs are parted to reveal an eye.
  • Leitmotif: awkward moment, which reappears in the NomNomRadio exclusive Awkward Groove.
  • My Nayme Is: His name is pronounced like "basil".
  • Oxymoronic Being: An incubus demon who is completely disinterested in matters of sex.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: another piece of candy shows that he and Poffin hang out and play video games together, and Poffin gladly gives Baezel a human-sized hug when she is magically able to. However, they aren't attracted to each other; Poffin is "dating" the moon, and Baezel is an asexual whose "type" is Majiko from the Demon's Gaea series.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser:
    • In his path in Spooky Soiree, Marzipan helps Baezel boost his confidence by having him cosplay as his favorite video game heroine.
    • In another piece of candy, the "makeup tutorial" arc has Baezel learning how to cosplay as Majiko without magical assistance; when Chirval sincerely asks if Baezel also wants to be referred to as his "sister" now, Baezel clarifies that he still identifies as male.

    Periwinkle
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/periwinkleportrait.png
"I'm quite into witch boys, myself. But I don't mind a lady with refined taste..."
Also appears in: Starry Flowers, Astra's Garden, another piece of candy, Lonely Wolf Treat (chapters 7-8), Starry Flowers: Mirror Call, Starry Flowers: Tempered Desire
A flirtatious and effeminate witch boy looking for a date.
  • Ascended Extra: He becomes the main protagonist of Starry Flowers.
  • Leitmotif: Periwinkle from Starry Flowers, which reappears in Astra's Garden as Blossoming Magic.
  • Incompatible Orientation: Or so he thinks. The first time Marzipan meets Periwinkle at the snack table, Jam encourages him to go out with Marzipan, but Periwinkle turns her down saying "I support your openness, but I'd rather not get involved". He thought Marzipan and Jam were asking him out on a three-way date, and Periwinkle turned them down because he is not interested in polyamory.
  • Official Couple: The plot of Starry Flowers focuses on him dating Pastille from Syrup and the Ultimate Sweet, and they're a confirmed couple in another piece of candy.
  • Really Gets Around: He's rather experienced when it comes to romance, with another piece of candy showing that he first met Baezel the morning after a one-night stand with his brother Chirval.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Periwinkle is a witch boy who likes to wear makeup and beautiful dresses.

    Kamilla
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spookykamillaportrait.png
"Oh... I'm flattered, but you don't want to flirt with me."
Also appears in: First Contract, Lonely Wolf Treat (chapters 2 and 4 + DATE TREAT), Contract Demon, another piece of candy
A hot demon girl, and former contract demon. Unfortunately, she is taken.

    Olog
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ologportrait.png
"Olog, at your service."
Also appears in: Contract Demon, another piece of candy (guest appearance)
Kamilla's brother, a professional contract demon.
  • Deal with the Devil: As a contract demon, his job is to do favors to people in exchange for their souls. Marzipan is desperate enough for a kiss that she would condemn her soul to the Netherworld to get it...
  • Pragmatic Pansexuality: Olog is asexual and takes no pleasure in being hired to kiss Marzipan. He's just doing his job.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Olog made his debut in Contract Demon, which was released more than two years after Spooky Soiree. He was actually added to Spooky Soiree in a later update.

    Strudel
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strudelportrait.png
"Let's go let's go let's go let's go!"
Also appears in: Lonely Wolf Treat (chapter 5), Starry Flowers (non-speaking cameo)
A cute and energetic dog girl.
  • Furry Reminder: Strudel is a dog girl who likes chewing on bones.
  • Genki Girl: She's easily excitable and eagerly drags Marzipan away from the party to help her look for a bone to chew on.

    Vinegar
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vinegarsplitportrait.png
"Why am I such a dick to myself."
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2024_04_09_190737616.png
Vinegar's appearance in Astra's Garden
Also appears in: Astra's Garden, another piece of candy
An undead girl whom Marzipan finds collapsed on the mansion floor.
  • Blessed with Suck: The whole point of the soul extraction spell was so Vinegar could do whatever she liked without being held back by her sick and dying body. Unfortunately, giving up her physical body meant giving up the ability to drink soda, which is Vinegar's favorite thing in the world.
  • Cat Girl: She's not an actual cat person like Jam; she just likes to dress like one.
  • Cute Ghost Girl: Her ghost half is much healthier and more energetic than her sickly and lethargic zombie half.
  • Dreary Half-Lidded Eyes: Her zombie half's eyes are always half-shut, highlighting her general lack of energy. When she merges back together, her eyes open just a little bit.
  • Eye Colour Change: Her eyes are completely white when her soul is split, but their color is restored when she merges back.
  • Hates Being Touched: Hisses "Don't touch me!!" when Marzipan tries to help her, due to her sensory issues.
  • Invisible to Normals: In another piece of candy, her soul is a sentient specter, but Eleni is incapable of seeing it; Vinegar takes a moment to wonder if it's this trope or if Eleni's just playing dumb so she can sacrifice it to Olog.
  • "It" Is Dehumanizing: The ghost half refers to the zombie half as "it", treating the latter as just a walking corpse instead of an actual person.
  • Jerkass Realization: The ghost half, in her excitement to hang out at the soirĂ©e without being held back by her dying body, completely forgets that her zombie half is still sentient and suffering from her illness. At the sight of Marzipan helping out her zombie half, the ghost realizes she was being a huge dick to herself and thanks Marzipan with a ghost kiss.
  • Leitmotif: something smells rotten, which reappears in Astra's Garden as the unlockable BGM option Sprouting Odor.
  • Literal Split Personality: She tried to be free from her illness by splitting her soul from her body, but this only resulted in there being two Vinegars; one healthy and free-spirited ghost, and one rotting and miserable zombie.
  • Soul Jar: A variation where her own body is the jar. Removing her entire soul would kill her, so she let half of her soul remain in her body to keep both halves alive. Unfortunately, even though the zombie half is still fully sentient, the ghost half treats her like trash.
  • Technically-Living Zombie: She is a living witch who suffers from an illness that causes her body to rot to pieces.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She is obsessed with drinking soda, but her illness often prevents her from enjoying it. Taking medicine makes her too nauseated to drink it, and becoming a ghost makes her unable to even touch it.

Minor Characters

    Moth Servant
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mothservantportrait.png
"A kiss? With the Princess?! Ah...!"
Also appears in: another piece of candy (guest appearance), Starry Flowers (non-speaking cameo), Princess Poffin and the Spider Invasion
A servant of the Royal Moth Family, and a huge worrywart.
  • Ambiguous Gender: The Moth Servant's gender and pronouns go completely unmentioned in the game. Despite going by the gender-neutral title of "servant", the art collection suggests that they are actually a maid.
