Republic of Guimoule

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag2.png

Established by Mohana Carradine after embedding the five Mana Stones into the continent in a “Mana Release”, it is the self-proclaimed birthplace of Rune Knights, housing the Brigandine of Glory. When the former Rune God faith splintered into two factions – Republic of Guimoule’s Mohana sect and Mana Saleesia Theocracy’s Zai sect – a “Mana Stone 30 Years War” erupted. This scourge in turn triggers a new war on the continen

    Eliza Uzala

Eliza Uzala (Voiced by Reina Ueda)

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elizauzala.png]
Class: Rose Knight -> Rose Valkyrie
]The ruler of the Republic of Guimoule. Previously disguising herself as a ballet dancer, she becomes the leader of Guimoule's rune knights in place of her bedridden father Aiden Uzala after being chosen by the Sword of Ange.
  • Action Politician: A rune knight and a leader, and partway through the campaign, succeeds her father as president.
  • Cultured Warrior: She's both a famous ballet dancer and a powerful warrior on the battlefield.
  • The Chosen One: She automatically becomes the ruler of Guimoule when the Sword of Ange reacts to her.
  • Lady of War: A graceful and powerful warrior, being at Level 20 and second only to Rudo.
  • Love Triangle: Part of one with Darian and Kate. Eliza and Darian are both hinted to have romantic interest in one another, while Kate loves Darian (though Eliza and Kate's friendship also has some slight undertones). However, Eliza actually encourages Kate to pursue her interest in Darian.
  • Playing with Fire: Her class, attacks and spells are all red-elemental damage although this gives her a weakness against blue-elemental attacks.
  • Internal Reformist: Wants to end the practice of Barrett enslavement in Guimoule, but recognizes that she lacks the influence to simply free them outright, though she takes pains to emphasize that in her unit, every knight is equal, regardless of their background. In her ending, she successfully restores the Barretts' freedom and allows them to choose their own fate.
  • Queen Incognito: Should Guimoule fall it's implied she abandons her identity and goes back to being a ballet dancer, appearing on stage in Mirelva.
  • Royal Rapier: Her weapon, the Sword of Ange.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Towards Rudo Marco for destroying the peace between the two sects that both her father and the Holy Sovereign Romanov has worked hard for:
Eliza: Rudo Marco... I have been waiting for this! With the Sword of Ange, I shall bring judgement down upon Mana Saleesia for its atrocities towards Guimoule and the Mohanna Sect!
Rudo: Atrocities? Hah! Your ancestor stole our mana stones. You should have been slaughtered as traitors yet you retain land and your lives. If that's not compassion, I don't know what is.
Eliza: You have destroyed the peace my father and Holy Sovereign Romanov strove to bring our peoples. You have brought death to the Zai and the Mohanna Sects. Your sins are great.
Rudo: The Rune God was merciful at the end of the Thirty Years War. You Mohanna heretics should have been destroyed, yet his compassion allowed you to live... but I have none. Your lives end now.

    Mu'ah

Mu'ah (Voiced by Shouto Kashii)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4tqurv6mdmute3fla8yrrwkxquonmv0sbuopcubg3wvghyogvh7wufrz1yxjcgk9qqwkw8vmbfwlitot.jpg

The foremost mage in the Republic of Guimoule and one of the most powerful mages on the continent. He also acts as a mentor Eliza and his granddaughter Sugar.

  • The Arch Mage: The old, greatest mage of Runersia. And matches in the class and magic he can cast too.
  • Crutch Character: His age is showing and he doesn't have very good growth. That said, he's very essential in invasions against the neighboring Shinobi, where his fire magic has advantage against Shinobi's majorly green unit.
  • Mentor Archetype: To both Eliza and his granddaughter Sugar.
  • Parental Substitute: With Eliza losing her mother when she was just a child and her father Aiden too busy with his presidential duties. It fell to Mu'ah to educate her.

    Darian

Darian (Voiced by Shinichirou Kamio)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bxtmljv22rnu5cr6ugo46nyk9fpbz1vntpqxt8vrscbcmhwwvkpcwt6zrkhlfolrj2jfjfzmzn5n8pe5.jpg

A Rune Knight of the Blackbird unit and much like the other Blackbirds, a grown Barrett fairy. He is trained to be a docile and loyal soldier.

  • Child Soldiers: He and Kate were abducted from their homes alongside other Barrett children by the Republic of Guimoule, intending to train them into a vital military asset.
  • Go-Go Enslavement: Just like with Kate, his scantly-clad attire marks him as a slave to Guimoule.
  • Leitmotif: Valero, often with Darian himself playing the eponymous instrument and representing the Barretts' desire for freedom (along with Eliza's ideals).
  • Not So Stoic: When Kate starts teasing him over being more talkative with Eliza around, the taciturn Darian starts uncontrollably blushing and is completely lost for words.
  • Ship Tease: Quite a bit with Eliza.
  • The Quiet One: He is a man of few words.

    Cain

Cain (Voiced by Wataru Komada)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/s4vysmpvlswkuriwrjkrh0yg6mmtiytlz8521z0sqaru4hbjsyeaexlt5hu2cgvcqes41q5bki56nim6.jpg
Class: Knight

A cynical rune knight who is constantly at odds with Eliza due to his father having a rivalry with her father.

  • Bait-and-Switch: There is a brief moment of drama in Guimoule's story when Eliza's unit receives an unexpected communication from the council about their progress in the war, alarmed, the others question Cain, who loftily replies that he merely reported accurately on the unit's activities... Leading into the council roundly praising Eliza's success and naming her president.
  • The Beast Master: He is quite skilled and proud in training his monsters for battle.
  • Expy: Of Meleagant of New Almekia, although Cain is much more unpleasant individual than the former.
  • Fantastic Racism: He is very disdainful towards the Blackbird unit, blunting ordering them not to be a burden on the battlefield.
  • Name of Cain: Downplayed. Instead of downright evil, Cain is more or less just endorsing Fantastic Racism that became quite commonplace in his country and very confrontational towards Eliza, but overall is more of a patriotic guy who fights for the people of his country and the country's glory.
  • Patriotic Fervor: Despite all his faults, he is genuinely loyal to his country above all else. When he learns about how fanatically dangerous Kyle is for his nation, it makes Cain very glad that he's born in Guimoule and placed his loyalty to it.
  • The Rival: He sees himself as such towards Eliza. Although unlike with Emma of Mana Saleesia, he doesn't let his rivalry interfere with his duty towards his country.
  • Sour Supporter: He criticizes and insults Eliza when given the slightest opportunity, but gives his all for his country regardless, even if that means taking orders from her. Other characters also observe that he ensures he'll use his very strongest monsters in supporting Eliza on the battlefield.

    Kate

Kate (Voiced by Megumi Toyoguchi)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yfijztkppjqcvkhyxw9ejolc1zmp0dlfqm9df30xarofefsibeeahtacaxs5axtjcnmevcfdrzfkuv32.jpg

A Barrett fairy rune knight of the Blackbird unit.

  • Childhood Friend Romance: She is in love with Darian. Unfortunately, there's no indication that he feels the same way.
  • Child Soldiers: She and Darian were abducted from their homes alongside other Barret child by the Republic of Guimoule, intending to train them into a vital military asset.
  • Go-Go Enslavement: Her and Darrian's scantly-clad attire distinguishes them as slaves to Guimoule.
  • Happiness in Slavery: She is unconcerned about her status as a slave knight and loyally fights for Eliza.

    Sugar

Sugar (Voiced by Coco Hayashi)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/djzl0nxsz79oh27qol10xuo7rn3mbknhwxj6chbvn4ssktznfsxsdxpzpdueeczrtfzrjgsh9veyibcp.jpg

A young and immature rune knight and the granddaughter of Mu'ah.

  • The Baby of the Bunch: Generally the most immature core members of Guimoule, but she nevertheless stands as one of the more moral characters in Guimoule.
  • Genki Girl: She's a very excitable girl, especially shown in how she attempts to get everyone to follow her lead.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: While putting on a cheerful front for her comrades, she is understandably terrified of being on the battlefield.
  • Magikarp Power: A level 1 Enchantress but has a high growth rank and is able to surpass her grandfather Mu'ah in power as a mage.

    Leanne

Leanne

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leanne.png

A respected and beloved sister if the Mohenna sect, she spends her contributing to society by being a teacher to children and helping the elderly. On the day that Eliza took command, she awakened to her rune powers and while reluctant with having the ability to hurt other people, she volunteered to serve the country.

  • Dark Is Not Evil: Wears priestly clothes, slings around dark magic to hurt people (especially since she'll promote into Witch and capable to cast Meteor Doom). Is still a kind and compassionate soul befitting her faith.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: She will join any other countries that still existed if Guimoule was defeated. However, being a loyal Mohanna sect sister, she will absolutely not join Mana Saleesia and the Zai sect.
  • Foil: Towards Avenir from the same country; both being people of the Mohanna Sect church, but Leanne is stuck with black magic as her Rune power but remains a pacifistic and kind sister, whereas Avenir keeps his light magic power, but is instead the Token Evil Teammate.
  • Irony: She's dressed like a church sister and would fit more likely as a Healer class. Her Rune Power instead manifests as black magic, putting her as an Enchantress class by default.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: She's an unpromoted Enchantress that was quite close to promoting. It would be a pretty fine deal... if she wasn't in the same nation with Sugar (who had greater Magikarp Power and also story prominence).
  • Reluctant Warrior: While she initially joined to fight for Guimoule, she wondered why was she given the ability to hurt others despite being a servant of God.

    Diana

Diana

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/diana_79.png

A fortune-teller renowned for her accurate predictions. She is known her forcing wealthy clients to pay for her services while the poor ones get a free pass.

  • Defeat Means Friendship: She will join the country that defeated Guimoule.
  • Fortune Teller: She's a professional one and gets her money by providing fortune telling and divination services.
  • Impossibly-Low Neckline: Her upper breasts and shoulders are bare to see, looking close enough to the Dancer class line sprite.
  • Just Like Robin Hood: Played With. She's not exactly a direct thief or something, but she runs her fortune-telling business by charging super high prices for the wealthy and gives the poor ones free predictions. Additionally, her being in the Dancer/Rogue/Assassin class gives her the aura of a thief like the trope namer.

    Rose
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rose_38.png

Commands a security unit that patrols the central square of Gharghar, the capital of Guimoule despite her young age. She is pious and serious soldier who deeply respects Eliza for her determination to lead Guimoule.

    Patricia

Patricia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/patricia_2.png

A beautiful noble of Guimoule renowned in her country for having the most beautiful voice, her position qualifies her for a seat in the council but once her rune powers awaken, she took to the battlefield instead,

    Vayne

Vayne

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vayne.png

Known as the "Mad Dog of Angela for slaughtering countless enemies in a battle against Mana Saleesia. He is a crazed fighter who completely loses control of himself during battle. However, while he brags about his exploits, he is haunted by the dying faces and screams of his enemies.

  • Stepford Smiler: While arrogant and likes to boast about his exploits on the battlefield, he is horrified by the brutality he causes during the battle.

    Conrad

Conrad

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/conrad_5.png

A butler who has served the Uzala household since the days of Eliza's grandfather. Renowned as an outstanding tactician, he and Mu'ah watches over Eliza on behalf of President Alden.

    Marcosias

Marcosias

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marcosias.png

A battle-hardened mercenary who caught the idea of the Uzala family by winning a national martial arts tournament. Of all the clients he has worked for, he trusts the Uzala family the most.

    Avenir

Avenir

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/avenir.png

A priest who is well-trusted by the citizens, he hides a vicious dark side, he is the one who maintains the Blackbird unit, kidnapping Barret fairy child and indoctrinates them in orphanages to turn them into loyal soldier. He himself enjoys cruely inflicting pain on the enemy during the battlefield.

  • Expy: Of Forsena's Paradoll, a fellow Sinister Minister that murks down the morality of their own group (Guimoule and the Priest Knight Corps) and unfortunately getting a bit Out of Focus about their evilness, but battle prowess-wise, they are actually decent and serviceable.
  • Eyes Always Shut: He never opens his eyes which showcases his sinister attitude, he'd be an Obviously Evil character if he wasn't wearing priestly clothes.
  • Foil: For Leanne. She's also a priestly character (a sister) like Avenir, but unfortunately stuck with black magic for her mana awakening. Regardless, she still stayed as a kindly sister as an example of Dark Is Not Evil, whereas Avenir takes the Light Is Not Good trope and runs with it.
  • Light Is Not Good: The token light magic/main healer of Guimoule is the evilest of the bunch and the reason why Guimoule is more gray than white morality.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Most of the rune knights of Guimoule are a descent lot, which makes Avennir quite a contrast due to being responsible for Darian and Kate's Child Soldier occupation.

    Faye
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blor_faye.png

A reclusive monk originating from Guimoule and staying in a mountain temple. He didn't really care about the war, but when confronted to join, he decides to join in as a place to test his strength. He's known as one of the best martial artists in Runersia.

  • Bare-Fisted Monk: It's only natural for a monk like him to be of the fist-fighting Grappler class.
  • Expy: Basically a lower-levelled Shred of Forsena, a mid-late game monk-type character who was REALLY bad at Rune Power, but has good stats to make up for it.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Faye. Not exactly a name you'd think of for a clearly male guy like him, right?
  • The Hermit: Though not of magical nature, Faye is someone who chose to live alone to perfect his martial arts.
  • Late Character Syndrome: He's not amongst the initial roster of Guimoule, you probably may have to wait until you expanded quite a bit. By the time he's recruitable via questing, you would already have an established team or two so he can't play Crutch Character. And his low Rune Power didn't help.
  • Permanently Missable Content: Since he's not amongst Guimoule's initial roster and being obtainable mid-late game, you might not even recruit him after defeating Guimoule if you're being way too hasty in doing the deed (which can be done as any country except Gustava).
