Book 1: Moon

    Chapter 1: Echoes of Thunder
  • The first scene we get of Callum? Him drawing a marshmallow monster that's being burnt by a dragon's fire.
  • Viren waking up the king.
King Harrow: Viren, didn't I tell you if you woke me up this early again, I'd have you executed?
  • When Rayla returns to camp with berry juice smeared on her swords to pretend she made the kill.
    Runaan: Well done, Rayla.
Rayla: Yeah. [Beat; she holds up her swords] I used both of them.
    Runaan: I can see that.
    • She then walks away with an incredibly forced grin, but her group doesn't seem to pay it much mind.
  • Bait's "innocent face".
    • As Ezran tries to take a tart, the baker is getting more frustrated.
"Are you kidding me? I'm standing right here!"
  • Soren training Callum.
    Soren: Are you ready?
Callum: [fumbling for his sword] I'm gonna have to say no.
    Soren: Great, let's do this.
    • "Parry, parry, parry. You're dead. Parry, parry, you're dead. Parry— dead."
  • Soren stops Callum before he could warn a distracted Claudia that she's about to walk right into a tree. You might expect her to do some sort of cool magical trick like phase through said tree, but it turns out Soren just wanted to watch his sister make a fool of herself. When Callum warns her, Soren mutters, "You're no fun."
Claudia: Is this new? [gestures to the tree]
Callum: It's relatively new, it's only been there for three hundred years.
  • Soren allowing Callum to beat him so he can impress Claudia.
Soren: Oof! Oh, I am stabbed! By the stab-prince! Lord Stabbington! Why? Spurt, spurt!
Claudia: [giggles] Nice work, Callum! He deserved it.
    • A messenger appears right afterward to tell Callum that the king needed his presence immediately.
Soren: He didn't really stab me.
  • The king telling the boys they'll be staying at their winter lodge.
    Callum: But it's for winter.
King Harrow: Well, it's spring now and winter is coming... eventually.
    • He then suggests that the boys can make new things for spring instead of winter, like, dirt-men, or mud-sledding. Even Ezran looks doubtful of that.
  • Viren tells his children about unwanted guests who will be arriving.
    Soren: What are they, minstrels?
    Claudia: [whispers] Assassins.
Soren: I know! Do you think I'm an idiot?
    Claudia: Mmmmmm.
  • Claudia preparing herself for the task her father assigned to her and her brother.
Claudia: Well, I'm going to find them. After all, unstoppable is just another kind of stoppable.
Lord Viren: [Beat] No that's... not really right.
Claudia: Yeah, it made more sense in my head.
  • Callum tries to join Soren's party.
    Soren: You're just a kid.
Callum: I'll be fifteen in two months.
Soren: Oh, wow. Fourteen and three-quarters. Wow!
    Callum: [Beat] Five-sixths.
    • When Soren knocks him off his horse, he angrily throws his shield into some mud which splashes back into his face... Or at least what we think is mud.
  • Bait has his own doggy door to Ezran's room, and slams that in Callum's face.
  • Soren getting ready to use the moon moth.
Soren: Let's see if this moon moth can find more than a closet full of moon sweaters. [Laughs] Y'know? Cause moths eat clothes?
    Soldier: ... Yes, sir.

    Chapter 2: What is Done
  • Rayla asking one of her comrades if she could borrow his "sharpener thingy".
    Moonshadow Elf: Whetstone.
    Rayla: Yeah, that!
    Moonshadow Elf: No.
  • Callum trying to make amends to Ezran.
Callum: Come on, later you can call me a jerk-face and I'll do the crazy jerk-face dance for you. It is a dance of stupitude and sorryness.
  • Claudia teasing Callum.
Claudia: You should have seen your face it was completely-
    Callum: Ridiculous.
    Claudia: Adorable.
Callum: Did you just say "adorable"?
    Claudia: Did I?
    Callum: [blushes]
  • Claudia demonstrates the Aspiro spell and asks if Callum could smell the peanut butter, he answers yes and asks if that was part of the spell.
Claudia: No, it's just what I had for lunch.
  • Claudia giddily realizing something, tapping the tip of her nose and running off, only to turn around and run in the other direction.
Callum: [smiles and mimics her gestures] I do not understand girls.
  • Viren having to deal with "Claudia speak".
Viren: Okay, what is that? With the nose? With the finger? Not everyone speaks "Claudia", Claudia!
  • Callum pretending Ezran isn't currently missing.
Callum: Of course we're both here, why wouldn't we be?
Guard: ...Right. The king wishes to see you Prince Callum, alone.
Callum: Oh, perfect, but he could have seen both of us if he wanted to.
  • Rayla comes across to guards talking about the others' breakfast plan.
Male Guard: Yesterday, I had two eggs for breakfast, and I was starving. Today, I had four eggs, and I’m stuffed! Tomorrow-
Female Guard: Three eggs. I get it. We don't need to talk.
Male Guard: ... I was gonna say, two eggs and one sausage.
  • Callum and Rayla's back and forth.
Callum: You're- you’re one of those with the pointy-
Rayla: [menacingly] Oh, you don’t like my ears?
Callum: N-no, I mean, yes, I do- I-I guess, uh, pointy- swords-
    • He easily distracts her.
      Rayla: I'm looking for someone.
Callum: Oh, did you check back there? [points]
      Rayla: [Looks in that direction]
Callum: [Rips off curtain onto her]
  • Callum being surprised at Rayla's fighting.
Callum: Hey, you swept the leg!
    Rayla: What??
Callum: Uh, nothing. [pauses and continues to run]
  • Ezran comes at a bad time and teases Callum.
Rayla: Are you talkin' to that painting?
Callum: Uh- wha- why would I do that? Cause, it’s not a good time!
Ezran: You mean, because you're with a girl? [Rayla opens the portrait and finds Ezran] Uhhh... jelly tart?
  • Rayla being offended by Callum pretending to be Ezran.
    Rayla: You lied to me!
Callum: Okay. How is that worse than trying to kill someone?
  • "Say hello to my little friend."
  • Callum nervously biting his nails as Ezran goes through the rock and stone combination, especially after he distracts him.
    • Callum wondering what the difference between "rock" and "stone" is.
  • Callum asks Ezran if Rayla would be able to follow them and he responds that it took him a month to work out the combination. Cue Rayla getting the staircase to work and coming down. Ezran asks how she was able to do that and she points out she simply touched the stones with the jelly tart handprints on them. Ezran facepalms, leaving a streak of jelly across his face.
  • Viren trying to convince King Harrow to trade places with someone to avoid being killed in the war. Viren gestures to the guards in the background claiming any one of them would be willing to sacrifice themselves for their king. As he says this, the guards all exchange stunned and nervous looks.

    Chapter 3: Moonrise
  • Harrow talking to Pip the way any pet owner would, "Aww, who gives the best birdie kisses? Pip does."
  • Claudia using her hand like a flashlight, complete with her hitting her arm a few times when it goes out.
  • Callum and the others running from the shadow wolves that Claudia casts.
    Ezran: Wait! Not that way!
Callum: Why not? [runs into a wall]
Ezran: Cause it’s a dead end!
  • Callum looking at the Primal Stone and telling the other two that he thinks he has something, but isn't sure if he can do it.
Rayla: Is this a guessin' game? Just do it!
  • Callum finds out he's more adept at magic than swordplay.
    Callum: Wow? I’m a mage. I’M A MAGE!!
Rayla: Shh! [sternly] Nobody likes a loud mage.
Callum: Sorry, sorry. [quieter] I’m a mage!
  • Viren telling his son what’s in the basket will save the king where the knights' swords will fail, and the guards are standing right there.
Soren: Y-you know they can hear you, right?
    Guard: [beat] He knows, sir.
  • Rayla trying to get Ezran to trust her and hand over the egg to her.
Callum: Hey, right? That makes sense, since we go way back. Like that one time, ten minutes ago, when you chased me through the castle trying to stab me? Haha! Good times!
  • Rayla having a few good quips with Runaan.
Runaan: Don't do this. I will kill you.
    Rayla: Probably.
    [...]
    Runaan: You're better than this!
Rayla: No, not really. You had about twenty years more trainin'.
  • Claudia trying to find a spell to break the chains, but ends up finding the key anyway.
Claudia: Well, as fun as it would be to turn the chains into snakes, I guess I’ll just use the key.
  • Runaan noticing Rayla looking at the tower.
Runaan: You’re just trying to stall me!
[In the background, Rayla gets an Oh, Crap! look on her face and casually leans on one of her swords]
Rayla: Interestin’ theory. Care to discuss?
  • Rayla easily finding Bait and Ezran's hiding spot.
Rayla: This one's not so good at hidin'.
    Ezran: I told him that!
    • Rayla looks so confused when she sees Bait on top of Ezran's head.
  • Callum saying the three of them would get the egg to Xadia, before Bait croaks in and he adds, "The four of us".

    Chapter 4: Bloodthirsty
  • Claudia's hot brown morning potion (coffee), and gives some to her brother who is delighted by the taste.
  • Rayla arguing with Bait.
    • She later walks away to try and cut off the binding, even shouting out words she hopes will undo it like a spell.
      "Unbind! (Beat) Unbindo!"
  • Rayla asks Callum if he knows the six elements when he messes up the names of the other things she asks about.
Callum: If I say 'yes', will you make me name all of them?
  • Rayla pointing out how bad of an idea going to the winter lodge would be for her.
Rayla: It's probably crawling with humans, who want to kill me! Yay~!
  • Callum tries to stall for time and offers to find the key, only for Amaya to push him aside and easily kick the doors down off its hinges.
Amaya: [Gren interpreting] "I don't believe in locks".
  • Callum yelling out how there were humans and guards in the winter lodge, Amaya is very confused.
Amaya: [Gren interpreting] "Callum, you know it doesn't help to yell. And why are you saying "human troops" like that?"
Callum: Uh, what do you mean? That's how I always say, HEAVILY ARMED, HUMAN TROOPS.
  • After Ezran says he hasn't eaten breakfast, Amaya finds a loaf of bread, and Gren interprets that she sees that the bread is "weapons grade", as she knocks it on the table before tossing it to the boys and stabbing her knife into the wood.
    • Ezran tries to cut the bread, but can't pull the knife out. So instead he holds the bread by both ends and saws it against the blade. He finally saws the loaf in half, but when he bites into it, it sounds like he's biting stone.
  • Aunt Amaya shows Callum a message King Harrow sent her, basically saying to avoid the castle and protect his sons, but there's more on the back.
Callum: [Reading the message] P.S. Once their safety is assured, the boys may wish to build a dirt man.
Callum: We do not wish to build a dirt man.
    Ezran: We do not.
  • Rayla sarcastically air-quoting Callum telling her how the winter lounge would be empty since it was for winter.
Rayla: [sarcastically mimicking him] It's the winter lodge, Rayla. No winter, no humans.
  • Her reaction as she holds up Callum's drawing and comparing it to the game room.
Rayla: [looks back and forth between Callum's spot-on drawing to the room.] ...Ugh. It's okay.
  • One of the guards opening Rayla's knife.
Rayla: Careful with those. Wouldn't want to lose a finger. I mean, can you imagine going through life with only four fingers? [shows off her four fingers on each hand]
  • As Ezran and Callum are preparing to help Rayla:
Callum: This is one of your weirdest ideas.
    Ezran: Weirder than snail armor?
Callum: Ez, snails already have armor.
Ezran: Then why do they keep getting smooshed?
  • Rayla cutting herself free and making a run for it. Bait just watches her leave and hops onto the floor, croaking after her. Rayla then returns almost a bit annoyed as she picks Bait up and continues their escape.

    Chapter 5: An Empty Throne
  • Callum playing with the cube and finding out that the symbols on its faces glow when near strong sources of their corresponding element. So when the moon sign reacts to a sleeping Rayla, he happily moves it back and forth over her, until she wakes up and angrily grabs his wrist.
Rayla: This doesn't end well for you.
  • Ezran showing her the bread he got from the lodge.
Rayla: I thought this was a sack of clubs. [swings the bread around like a weapon and drops it onto a rock, which splits in half on impact]
Ezran: No, it's food. Ish. [tries chomping onto the bread]
    Rayla: No thanks, I'm good.
  • Callum tries using the lightning spell, but doesn't know the full word, causing the lightning to arc around him.
Callum: I only heard her do the first half, but I'm very good at the first half!
    • Unsure of how to make it stop, he decides to just throw the Primal Stone to Rayla.
Callum: Know what, I'm just gonna throw it!
      Rayla: What?!
Callum: [...] Tossin' it! [tosses it to Rayla] Ha! It works. I'm okay!
Rayla: [angrily holding the orb with her hair all zapped up]
Ezran: You're kinda making a sizzling sound.
  • Callum pointing out Ezran being a reason they should take the boat over walking.
Callum: I mean, look at those legs!
Ezran: (trying to jump for an apple) What? I have nice legs.
  • Rayla's suffering after making it through the rapids. When Callum asks if she hated water less, she grumbles that she's never hated water more.
  • Callum tells her the reason why they named Bait bait, and admits that it was kind of messed up. What's even more hilarious? It was King Harrow who came up with that name!
    • Ezran covering Bait's ears when Callum recounts this story, as well as lying about what he was talking about.
Ezran: And that's how the noodle got it's name!
  • As Amaya and Viren reminisce over her sister, Amaya noted that her sister was kind, brave and patient. Unless you took the last jelly tart.
Viren: [laughing] I only made that mistake once!
  • Gren nearly interpreting Amaya's ASL word for word to Viren. But then decides at the end to omit a certain word.
Amaya: [Gren interpreting] Guard, fetch a stable boy, quickly. I've encountered a giant pile of bull-
    Gren: ... Droppings.
  • Gren's astonishment that Amaya was assigning the mission of locating the princes to him.
    • Before she leaves, Amaya warns Gren and the rest of her men that Viren will certainly betray them, “It may be a month from now, it may be a year”. Not five minutes after she leaves, Viren proves her correct, taking Gren off the mission and imprisoning him when he protests.
  • Rayla crashing onto land with the boat, and she's jubilant.
Rayla: Sweet, solid, land, we meet again! [kisses the ground]
    • Then she realizes the boys can't hear her, and therefore she'd have to be the one to save Bait.
      Ezran: Bait sees kelp?
Callum: No! She said, Bait's, knees, smell!
      Ezran: Well, that's just mean.
Rayla: [...] Goodbye, sweet, solid, land, I barely knew you!
  • Rayla trying to stay focused.
"Come on, Rayla. Do it for the frog! [beat] The grumpy frog that hates you.
  • When Callum notices the boat floating away.
  • Viren chaining Gren down in his dungeon and asking for his concerns. Gren points out his only main two concerns were that he was taken off the mission and put in the dungeon, after that he was fine.
Viren: Thank you, your feedback is a gift.

    Chapter 6: Through the Ice
  • Callum having apparently a very nice dream involving Claudia, if his smile and sleep-talking when Ezran tries to wake him is any indication.
    • Later, he gets very flustered and evasive when Ezran asks just what he was dreaming about...
Callum: Uhhh...I don't remember! Why? I didn't, like, say anyone's name out loud, did I?
Ezran: No. But you said something about peanut butter-
Callum: Sandwiches! Yup, I remember now! I-I was having a dream about sandwiches.
Ezran: ...You seemed weirdly excited about sandwiches.
Callum: (chuckles) You know what, in a few years, when you're older, buddy...we'll sit down, and have a heart-to-heart talk about sandwiches.
  • Soren doing lunges while walking up to Viren and doing stretches while Viren is talking to him.
  • Viren trying to impress on Soren the importance and seriousness of his mission. Both the animator and voice actor deserve kudos for conveying Viren's frustration with Soren's analogy.
Viren: The coming war will determine the fate of humanity. History has come to a crucial tipping point.
Soren: So you're saying, things could go either way.
    Viren: Precisely.
    Soren: Like a see-saw!
Viren: ...Yes. History is like... a see-saw.
    • The end credits show Soren on a se-saw with Bait on the other end.
  • Rayla offering to give the boys some of her drink since she had a lot left over, but then finds out that all of her drink is gone. She starts accusing the boys, who tells her it wasn't them. Turns out, it was Bait, who was glowing brightly and turned red. Ezran says it couldn't be Bait, until he burps on him and he mutters, "... yup, it was him."
  • Claudia telling the mirror she would be putting it on notice.
Claudia: (Beat) Huh, it kinda looked like the mirror was putting me on notice.
  • While the talk Soren got from his dad was plenty terrifying and sad, it's funny to see him sitting on a bench somberly eating from two small piles of jelly-tarts at his side.
    Claudia: Hey there, Sor-bear!
    • When Claudia tries reassure him that nothing will go wrong on their mission.
Claudia: Don't worry, and I'm sure you won't die.
      Soren: What?
  • Ezran manages to calm Callum and Rayla's arguments to keep them from causing an avalanche. And then Bait lets out a loud burp.
  • As Callum attempts to use Aspiro to stop the avalanche, Bait's Oh, Crap! face is hilarious.
  • The group manage to make it out safely, with Callum's hand popping out of a pile of snow still holding the orb while Rayla jumps out, demanding to know where Bait was.

Chapter 7:The Dagger and the Wolf
  • Rayla getting berries for Ezran's sniffles. He's about to eat them before Rayla explains that these berries weren't for eating.
Rayla: To cure a stuffy nose, you've got to stuff 'em up your nose.
    Ezran: (Beat) Oh. Seems doable.
    • Even funnier (worse?), before that, we (and seemingly Ezran) were led on to believe that they went... somewhere else.
    • A moment later, Ezran delivers a line in a serious tone while looking and sounding silly with the berries stuffed up his nose.
    Ezran: We godda fide help.
  • Soren using one of Callum's training shirts to track the prince. He makes a joke that Claudia barely reacts to.
    • The dogs pick up a scent trail. What sells it is how dramatic the scene was made before being pulled to a sudden halt.
Soren: They found the scent! (dogs stop at the river bed) Aaaaand, they lost the scent.
  • Soren squeezing through a gap after Claudia.
Soren: If only... I weren't... so... muscular!
  • Rayla's human disguise. Specifically her utterly ridiculous attempts at acting and talking like a human.
Rayla: Get ready to meet… [puts on her cloak/hood with a dramatic swish and stands up proudly] Human Rayla!
Callum: Yeah, I'm not sure that's gonna cut it.
Rayla: Just wait. Once I pair my disguise with my perfect human impression, the illusion will be complete.
    [Callum looks skeptical]
Rayla: [putting on an accent] Greetings, fellow humans. Human fellows. I sure do like hanging out with other humans, and talking about things like… money, and starting wars!
Ezran: [to Callum, as Rayla holds her cape in front of her face in the background] That's… pretty good, actually.
Rayla: Totally, my good human friend.
  • She sees a snowman and calls him a snow-elf. After taking the gloves, she breaks the carrot nose in two and puts the pieces on the snowman's head as horns.
    Rayla: [giggling] Snow-elf.
  • The boys go to a vet who has a sign with a dog and horse above a heart shape. Ezran wonders if it's a dating place for animals and Callum admits it would be a good idea as his little brother asks Bait about it. Bait turns pink in response.
  • Claudia declaring vengance on the wretched moonshadow elf assassin who took Ezran and Callum while clutching onto the arrow angrily, only to quickly brighten up afterwards.
Claudia: [looking at Rayla's old braid] Cute braid, though!
  • When Ezran and Callum tell Rayla about the healer who lives on the Cursed Caldera:
Rayla: Please tell me it's named that because it was discovered by the great explorer Sir Phineas Cursed.

    Chapter 8: The Cursed Caldera
  • Callum going through his plans with everyone. Looks like he's the idea guy,and his ideas are communicated with sound effects. "Flash, Woof, Zap, Slish-slash".
    • When Rayla reminds Callum she can't use her left hand in their mission, Callum amends his slish-slash plans.
Callum: Okay, then you're just... slash!
Rayla: No way. That won't work. This is my slish hand.
  • Rayla tries to help Callum remember the name of the lightning spell, and all he can tell her was that it sounded like Claudia said "fool". Rayla says that she wouldn't be surprised about that.
  • Everyone makes a joke about how boring the Caldera actually was, and when it gets to Callum, there's a literal cricket whistle when everyone doesn't react.
  • Gren asking if he could have some of the Xadia fruit that Viren was offering to Runaan. When he's ignored, he quietly hangs his head.
    Gren: ...Very good.
  • Rayla and Ezran have a heartwarming conversation, and when Rayla admits that losing her hand was worth having Ezran alive, Ezran's face quickly snaps into a Wait, What? expression.
Ezran: (Beat) That's the weirdest, nicest thing anyone's ever said to me.
  • Rayla commenting how everything right now seemed too good, and in stories, this was the moment when things went sideways.
Callum: Nah. Maybe that's how things works in stories, but in the real world
Monster: (creeps up on them and roars)
    Everyone: AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!
  • It's slightly jarring, but still funny to see Gren at first whistling nonchalantly while Viren is turning Runaan into a coin.

    Chapter 9: Wonderstorm
  • Bait is the one who 'says' "Previously on The Dragon Prince" in this episode.
  • Callum finally does the long awaited "Jerk-face dance", and it does not disappoint.
    • The large pleading doe-eyes Ezran gives Callum when he asks for the Jerkface dance.
Callum: Here? Now? (Ezran nods as his eyes sparkle)
  • Soren actually making a joke that Claudia nearly falls over laughing at.
Soren: The tallest mountain in Katolis. You might say it's the Ka-tallest.
Claudia: (bursts out laughing and breaks into tears) [...] (picks up a pile of dirt) Hey what's this? [...] The Ka-shortest mountain! (continues laughing)
Soren: So, now I'm not even sure you got the original joke.
  • Bait looking incredibly grossed out when Ezran tells him to lick the newly hatched dragon eye's so he could open them. Bait gingerly walks towards it and slowly licks at his eyes.
  • Soren complains about the cold and Claudia sarcastically offers to use the fireflies she caught for her spell to make a blanket for her brother.
    Soren: Fine, I'll suffer.

Book 2: Sky

    Chapter 1: A Secret and a Spark
  • Lujanne named her bird companion Phoe-Phoe, short for "Phoenix-Phoenix".
  • Lujanne reveals to the group that their delicious food is just an illusion. They're actually eating grubs and gestures over to Phi-Phi eating a bowl of worms. Callum's face turns predictably green, and Ezran soon follows suit and throws up.
  • Rayla is particularly cheerful now that she has two workings hands, demonstrating all that she can do now. She even shows them jazz hands saying, "I can even do that thing you do when you finish a nice song and dance, you know?"
    • For some reason, when the camera cuts away to her, she is then seen standing above the group on a ledge when she was right next to them just a few shots beforehand.
  • Rayla telling everyone to keep on their toes in case of danger, but then tells Zym to work on getting off his toes. Zym doesn't look pleased at this.
  • Callum is excited to get to learn magic from a real mage, as he claims and Lujanne asks him how he knows she's real. Callum pauses and tries to think about that before Lujanne tells him she was real.
  • Lujanne explaining to Callum what her purpose is and that she needs to protect this place from humans. So when Callum asks if she kills any humans who do find it, she laughs and says that it's easier to break their minds with insane illusions and offers to show Callum some that would "freak his beans". Callum politely declines.
  • Ezran's training with Zym on how to fly. It doesn't go as smoothly as he hoped.
    • When running around with Zym on his head he tosses him hoping it would teach him what flying feels like, but he ends up catapulting the poor baby dragon into a nearby bush.
Ellis: Ezran! You killed the Dragon Prince!
  • Rayla running into the spider illusion, but is unperturbed.
Rayla: Ugh, you again? Save it for someone who cares.
    Spider: (whines sadly)
  • Lujanne offering Callum some "cake", and he sighs saying that it was just a plate of worms. She tosses it behind herself as she laughs that Callum was too smart for her illusions. Then she offers him some ice cream.
    Callum: ...Urgh, worms again.
  • Callum approaching Lujanne to tell her how wrong she was and how he wouldn't give up on learning magic just because it was hard. He tells her how he was expected to do things princes' would need to learn, like horseback riding, archery, sword fighting and battle tactics. Lujanne then asks if Callum didn't give up on those and eventually got good at those skills.
  • Rayla telling Ezran she was too wired for rest and would do another round of patrols. When Callum walks into her, Rayla puts up both of her hands defensively and slowly walks out of the frame.
  • Viren asking for the Crow Lord, only for the Crow Master to appear. He says that Crow Master is kind of an assistant position, while Viren lifts an eyebrow up unamused.

    Chapter 2: Half-Moon Lies
  • Soren can't bring himself to harm Rayla in her sleep because it wasn't "sporting". Claudia asks how long it would take for her to be awake to have it be considered sporting.
    Soren: One second?
    Claudia: (Beat) Ok.
  • Rayla takes out her daggers and prepares to fight while Soren flourishes his sword and waves it around. This goes on for some time to Rayla's growing confusion.
Rayla: Are we gonna fight, or is this a talent show?
    Soren: (Beat) Oh.
  • Rayla trying to use her hooks to trip up Soren who simply steps on top of the blades so Rayla can't use them.
Soren: I keep telling people, "sweep the leg" is not a thing in sword fighting!
    • She then gives the swords a hard yank and trips him anyway.
  • Callum makes it in time to stop the ensuing fight with different accusations coming from everyone.
Rayla: Your friends tried to kill me!
    Claudia: She kidnapped you!
Soren: She threw mud in my face, and some got in my mouth!
  • Callum convinces everyone to rest and if they couldn't agree that they were all on the same side, they could just kill each other in the morning. Soren and Rayla half-heartedly concede.
    Rayla: ...Fine.
Soren: Fine. Guess we'll kill you in the morning.
  • Soren and Rayla's reactions to Claudia doting on Callum? Ugh.
  • Callum cleaning up for Claudia. He also goes completely over the top when Ezran asks if he's trying to impress Claudia. He sounds close to having a meltdown and a panic attack all in one.
Callum: Wha-hahahaha-What?! What?! Trying to impre-impre-impress-impre-impre-!! (after panicking and goes off to fix his hair so the whole front stands up) Does this look more "up"?
  • Claudia is Not a Morning Person, as her brother tries to theorize how the princes' grew so close to Rayla, she grumpily tells him off. She then says something just about anyone can relate to:
Claudia: (sighing) Don't talk to me until I've had my hot brown morning potion.
    • Soren's theory? Rayla bit the two and now they have Moonshadow-Madness. He insists it's a thing. That he heard from camp.
  • Claudia reminding her brother that their mission was to bring the princes' home.
Soren: Right. Unless a terrible accident occurs, accidentally.
    Claudia: What?
    Soren: Nothing.
    • He then suggests they stuff the princes in sacks.
  • Soren realizing that they need to "butter them up" and Claudia agrees to the idea. Turns out she makes the group pancakes.
  • Claudia's secret to her pancakes?
Claudia: The secret is separating the eggs, beating the whites into a stiff meringue, and (winks) just a hint of dark magic.
Ezran and Callum: (gulp in fear and push their plates away)
  • Soren looking at his butter as "We need to butter them up… butter them up… butter them up…" echoes in his head.
    • He then puts the entire slice of butter onto his tongue and eats it.
  • Claudia's reaction to seeing Zym? Her eyes turn into huge hearts and she audibly Squee's over the baby dragon.
    • She has a whole sequence of floating over to Zym, only to get a Record Needle Scratch as Rayla steps in to block the dragon prince from Claudia.
Rayla: Whoa, what happened to, "It's not an egg, it's a powerful weapon"?
Claudia: Still true. Someday, it could bring death and destruction raining down on all of us. But right now, he is so widdle~! (reaches out to pet Zym)
    Rayla: (slaps her hand away)
  • Soren thinking Rayla's intense gaze (she was glaring at him) meant that she was into him.
Claudia: She's not in to you. She's on to you!
  • Claudia telling her brother off for lying to the princes that their father was alive and missed them, saying that it was wrong because the princes are their friends.
Soren: You squash innocent creatures to make pancakes!
    Claudia: (shrugs)
  • Claudia telling her brother that she would use the princes' trust to convince them to come back home. Gilligan Cut to Rayla telling Callum that they couldn't trust the siblings.
  • As the two walk, Claudia asks Callum if she was interrupting something between Callum and Rayla. Callum immediately tells her that Rayla was just his friend. That's an assassin, an assassin friend. Claudia then awkwardly says that she has a lot of assassin friends.
  • Soren telling Ezran and Ellis that he has a fun idea for them. While also muttering out the "potential accidents" that could occur from it.
Soren: I have an idea for something super fun, (beat) but also something incredibly dangerous in which potential accidents may occur. But so fun! Who's in?
    • And Ellis immediately agrees without even asking what the idea is, only remembering to when Ezran does.
  • Claudia pulling at Lujanne's face, believing she was an illusion. Lujanne flees the scene while protectively shielding her cheeks.
Claudia: And just like that, she disappears~!
  • Claudia whispering back to Callum, "Do you always whisper when you're being judgmental?"
  • Claudia advocating for dark magic.
Claudia: That's the great thing about dark magic! You just take creatures that are born with magic inside and squeeze it out of them! (nuzzles a moon moth that lands on her shoulder)
    • Callum understandably cringes at that.
  • Soren's "Slidy-Sling-Go-Fast-Rope".
  • Rayla realizing that Soren's ride was unsafe and suggests he go next. He nervously complies, not before checking the stake and then hitting it a few more times.
    • A bit of dark humor of Rayla using her hook to pull on the rope and make it bounce as Soren is sliding down.
  • The siblings arguing over staying on task for that day.
Claudia: Hey, you built a zip-line!
Soren: I took no joy in that!
  • Lujanne's illusionist joke, "If it's wisdom you seek, I'll do my best to fake it."
  • Rayla disagrees with Lujanne's statement that "real trust is about accepting even the dark parts we will never know."
Rayla: Strong relationships need honesty. The full truth.
Lujanne: (chuckles) Oh, now you sound like my first three husbands.

    Chapter 3: Smoke and Mirrors
  • The episode begins with Viren in a chair to observe vision in the mirror. We cut back to him right after the episode's Tear Jerker moment to find out he's fallen asleep. The Mood Whiplash makes him look outright comedic.
  • Ezran's taffy monster nightmare returns, this time with the baker.
Ezran: It was the baker, the one who didn't like me.
Callum: He'd like you if you'd stop stealing his jelly tarts.
Ezran: He said I was wanted for crimes against dessert. [...] I was a pastry fugitive, Callum!
  • As that is going on, Bait wakes up and shoves Zym off the bed.
  • Callum trying to tell Ezran about their father's death is a mostly sad moment, but there's one moment where Callum's phrasing briefly gives Ezran the wrong idea:
Ezran: ...Is this that talk about sandwiches?
  • Rayla beating the metal moon statue in Lujanne's meditating hall with her swords to get the illusionist's attention.
  • Soren's signal for when they should take the princes? It will be when he starts attacking Rayla. Claudia can only sigh.
  • Rayla taking note that Soren doesn't quite get sarcasm; he agrees.
    • Claudia realizes that the princes were an illusion and calls for her brother, Rayla sarcastically makes note of the situation. But all Soren excitedly realizes was that Rayla was using sarcasm.
    Claudia: Illusions?!
Soren: What? You're saying they're not real?
Claudia: (angrily) That's what "illusions" mean, Soren!
  • The siblings taking a vote on whether or not Corvus was a traitor. It ends up being two to one.
  • Soren's hate for moon moths are multiplied ten fold this episode as he opens the sack expecting the Dragon Prince, only to get moths fluttering in front of his face.
    Soren: I HATE THE MOON!

Chapter 4: Voyage of the Ruthless
  • Rayla wakes up to find Callum sitting cross-legged and meditating. Rayla's exasperated response and Callum's cheerful tone sell the scene.
    Rayla: What are you doing?
Callum: Contemplating the meaning of sky.
Rayla: Ugh, that's more boring than any answer I would have guessed.
  • Welcome back, Human Rayla. "Hello again, fellow humans! Human fellows!"
    • "Let's go judge and criticize things other humans do, and then do the exact same thing ourselves!"
    • Callum telling Rayla to stay hidden and "Work on growing a fifth finger."
  • Callum admitting that the sea captain they chose probably doesn't see the good in anybody.
Callum: That's what makes him so uniquely qualified!
  • The captain of their ship has a parrot and an eyepatch. But when he faces forward, he has two eyepatches. Guess Callum was right when he told Rayla her appearance wouldn't matter.
  • Captain Villads and Rayla's back and forth. The "d" in his name is silent.
    Rayla: There's a "d"?
    Villads: Arrr!
    Rayla: Wait, there's a silent "r"?
    Villads: Narr!
Rayla: Oh, okay, so there's just the silent "d" then?
    Villads: Aye!
    Rayla: Ah~! So there's a-!
Callum: Ahem! This is our regular human friend, Rayla.
    Rayla: Spelt like it sounds.
Callum: And her cute unusual dogs!
  • Villads' explanation of his ship's name.
Villads: Welcome to me water home, The Ruthless! Named after me dear wife, Ruth. Who sadly[sniffles] don't enjoy sailing.
  • They all decide to leave ASAP so they can cross the bay and beat the storm.
  • How did Villads lose his left eye? Mutinous seagulls. His right eye? He doesn't know, because they came at him from the left.
  • Villads mentions something about himself a little too late.
Villads: What? Just because I'm blind and have narcolepsy, you thought I wouldn't have sailing sense?!
Callum: No, no, no that's not what I meant. I- wait, narcolespy?
    Villads: (asleep at the helm)
    • Berto starts pecking at his head and telling him to wake up. Villads does wake up and ends up hitting Berto's head like it was an alarm clock.
  • The group realizes the storm is hitting and Callum gets excited.
    Callum: Maybe it's my chance.
    Berto: A chance to die!
Callum: I was gonna say my chance to learn!
Berto: (Beat) To learn how to drown!
  • Berto navigating the ship and telling Villads how to steer. Once they dock and Berto secures the ship, he pops off a triumphant "Nailed it! Squawk!"
Ezran: Did he just say "squawk"?
  • Viren received four letters. When he's annoyed that he wasn't notified sooner, the Crow Master tells him they tried to look for him but couldn't find him anywhere.
Crow Master: [Jokingly] What were you, hiding in some secret chamber somewhere?note
Viren: [Embarrassed] I was... in the bathroom.
  • Crow Master asks Viren for a review on his performance.
Crow Master: Would you rate the service you received today as excellent?
  • Rayla yelling at Callum as he leaves.
Rayla: If you die out there, I swear I’ll kill you.
  • Zym gets struck by lightning. He's fine, despite the somber mood Callum has when walking back to the ship, but now his tongue is electrified.

    Chapter 5: Breaking the Seal
  • Villads announces the sweet smell of land, causing Rayla and Ezran to get excited. However, Berto tells them to wait, and Villads announces it's the distant, sweet smell of land. The two go back to moping.
    Berto: There it is!
  • When Aanya lays it on to Viren why she won't agree to the alliance, King Ahling notes with amusement, "My nineteen-year-old doesn't know half the words you just said! And he still fights back about eating his vegetables."
  • In a flashback, Harrow, Sarai, a young Callum, and a baby Ezran are all standing for a family portrait. Being that this is the medieval age, they have to stand still and hold their smiles.
Harrow: ...Are we done yet? Looks pretty done to me.
    • What's even more hilarious is that unlike their portrait, the family is having huge forced smiles and the portrait, in the end, looks entirely different from the positions they're holding.
  • As Viren tells Harrow to prepare for his portrait for the history books, he tells him, "Put on your best history face."
  • Ezran even as a baby had a hankering for jelly tarts and steals one from his mother as Harrow tries to feed it to her.
Harrow: Ah, someone's inherited your sweet tooth.
  • Harrow telling Sarai about the day his father died and how Lady Justice appeared in his dreams. Sarai, growing interested, leans forward and asks for more about the dream. Harrow then tells her with a quirked smile that she was wearing her robes, and Sarai looks away disappointed.
Sarai: Ugh. So a boring dream.
    • After his story is finished, Sarai tells him that Lady Justice was wise, before asking if she really didn't make any moves on him.
  • Zym and Ezran mimicking each other while the both of them are asleep.
  • Poor Bait's jealousy of Zym taking Ezran from him is both sad, adorable and hilarious. Especially when Ezran and Zym both lift up their arms with Ezran slapping Bait away.
  • When Viren presents his creative solution to Harrow.
    Viren: Behold!
    Harrow: ...It's a rock.
  • Sarai and Harrow sparring, ending with Sarai knocking Harrow's spear out of his grasp and flinging it past the guards overseeing them, just barely missing the two. The guard on the right then non-discreetly puts a small handful of coins into the hand of the guard on the left who's wearing a smug grin.
  • Amaya signing something to her sister, causing her to laugh.
    • She apparently was laughing at Harrow's gesture to the queens of Duren saying, "hahaha, he's signing!". Apparently the gesture Harrow used is a rather... inappropriate sign.

Chapter 6: Heart of a Titan
  • King Ahling coming back after going to the "little King's room".
  • Viren whispering to Harrow that it would be a better idea to leave the wounded behind. Even in the past, Amaya is quiet snarky towards him while her sister interprets.
Amaya: (Sarai interpreting) No need to whisper, Viren. I'm deaf.

  • Villads and Rayla bonding when he asks her what she does for a living, she answers "assassin" causing him to laugh.
Villads: Ahahahhahahaha- ho!(stopping to think) Oh! You're not joking.
    • Rayla adds that she's never actually killed anyone yet and Villads encouragingly tells her to never give up on her dreams.
  • Villads offers some wisdom for Rayla and when she accepts, he begins with how life was like a river.
Rayla: Oh, great. That's exactly what I was afraid of.
  • After his heartfelt speech, Rayla is inspired and thanks him. Unfortunately, at this point Villads's narcolepsy kicks in with Berto assuring Rayla they'll tell him later.
  • Harrow's letter telling Callum his secret was hidden in the Banther Lodge, right where they would be now, asking "How's that for planning?"
Callum: Well, good thing we're at the Banther Lodge, huh Bait?
    • Also Harrow writes that he has one last, "Extra super secret bonus secret".
Harrow: Did you know Bait, our most sour friend, secretly loves belly rubs?
  • Villads holds the secret to life. Water-proof socks!
    Villads: It's a metaphor.
  • After reading the letter Callum goes up to hug Ezran who just woke up.
Callum: You're my brother, and you mean everything to me.
    Ezran: Is this a trick?

    Chapter 7: Fire and Fury
  • Soren telling Corvus the "fool me once, shame on me" but on the third part he says that if Corvus fools him a third time, then it's shame on him.
Corvus: (Beat) That's not how that goes.
    Soren: (seriously) Shame. On. You.
  • Rayla posing like Sailor Moon when describing how the power of the moon feels to Callum.
    • Guess you could say that for Rayla, with the power of the moon, she punishes her foes.
  • Callum telling Rayla: "One does not simply walk into Xadia", with the hand pose and all.
  • Claudia feels like something is off when they enter the town and Soren complains that no one was listening to him. Cue a beat from Claudia before she turns around and looks at her brother quizzically.
  • Claudia shows her brother a griffin eyeball that she can use to enchant the ballista arrow. However, Soren is more disgusted than thankful.
Soren: So... you just carry a griffin eyeball with you? Who does that?
Claudia: Oh, how about, "Thank you for carrying a griffin's eye with you, Claudia, you're so prepared, you're the best!"
Soren: (about to argue but swallows his pride) Thank you, Claudia. (Claudia waits) ... You're the best.
  • When Viren, genuinely curious and more than a little baffled, asks Gren how he can be so upbeat when he's been locked in a dungeon for days, Gren's response is very typical for Gren.
Gren: Why see myself as chained down, when I can be chained, up! (gives Viren a thumbs up)
Viren: ... I admire your tenacity.

Chapter 8: The Book of Destiny
  • Claudia helping her brother, although the same can't be said for Soren.
    Soren: What are you doing?
    Claudia: I'm pinching you, Soren.
    Soren: Well that's just rude.
    • She also puts flower petals over his eyes and then on the last one, covers it in grasshopper goop.
Soren: Ugh, do we have to- URGH! (Claudia smushes the petals into his mouth) Blegh.
  • After Claudia casts her spell, nothing happens.
Soren: Well, that was super pretty, but I still can't feel anything.
  • Viren gets too loud while in a library. The librarian shushes him telling him that he's in a library. Viren snaps back "Yes, I'm well aware that I'm-", only to promptly be shushed again.
  • Viren storming into the room angrily, asking Aaravos why he can't seem to find information on the elf. Aaravos, looking mildly annoyed when he notices Viren, calmly puts his book back on the shelf, faces the mirror, and pointedly taps at his ear. Viren groans and rolls his eyes angrily as he remembers that the elf can't hear him without the grub-thing and he was ranting to no one.
  • Callum's weird dream, and it gets weird.
    • He faces a dark version of himself, with Harrow chained down to his throne. Once Callum rejects his doppleganger and it crumbles, Harrow looks back at his son before kind of shrugging the whole thing off. Callum's look of confusion helps sell the scene.
Harrow: ... It's your dream, kid. (his throne scoots out of the scene)
    • In another part of his dream, he becomes Villads' sail.
      Dream!Berto: I have questions! Aawck!
  • Now that Soren can't move his body, he decides instead, he'll become a poet.
Claudia: (bursts out laughing) ... you're not joking?
    • When Soren tries his first poem, Claudia yells that it was terrible, and it wasn't even a haiku.
      • What really caps it is Claudia pausing to count syllables on her fingers, just like every viewer was at that point.
  • As Claudia starts having a meltdown, the nurse and a doctor come into calm her down.
Claudia: NO! You need to- (Beat) CALM UP!
    • "You can't leave him like this! He can't even count syllables!!"
  • Corvus believes a banthernote  ate Ezran, which Rayla laughs at.
Rayla: Your king of Katolis caught a ride on a banther, not in the banther. (walks away laughing)
    • Corvus mouths a skeptical "what?" as he shrugs his shoulders.
  • Claudia starts muttering "There is no synonym for cinnamon," which is apparently her calming mantra.

    Chapter 9: Breathe
  • When the banther Ezran had used as a mount leaves after giving him a lick on the face, it runs out of town, startling a random villager, who falls over.
  • Before Callum wakes up Rayla looks like she's about to tell him something personal, when he does wake up she awkwardly changes the subject.
Rayla: Look, you're awake now. You're even looking cheery, and is that a twinkle in your eye? Oh, no that's not a twinkle it's one of those sleep crusties, here let me. (licks her finger)
  • Rayla gets confused when Callum tries to explain the sky arcanum.
Callum: It's like, I used to hold the power of the sky in my hand, right? But now that's gone. But, Rayla, the whole world is like a giant primal stone, and we're inside it! I'm inside sky magic, but it's also in me, with every breath I take. (breathes deeply)
Rayla: That kind of makes sense.
(Bait and Zym share confused looks)
Callum: Yes! And I kept thinking about birds, and sails, and how they connect to the wind! And I thought I had to find my wings...but that's just it! I am the wing!
    (Beat)
Rayla: That makes less sense...but okay.
  • When Callum is doing his wind breath spell Rayla says that Ezran is back causing Callum to look in the direction of Ezran and Corvus, which also means he blows wind on them.
  • Callum's confusion over what happened while he was unconscious.
  • Ezran and Zym connecting with each other and Ezran leading Zym to help Rayla and Callum cross the lava to Xadia. Unfortunately, this means Corvus has to put his king on his shoulders and run in the direction he tells him to, flapping his arms for some odd reason.
Corvus: If I may be so bold, you're a weird king, King Ezran.
    Ezran: I know!
  • Claudia helping Soren out of the hospital, and he actually manages to make a haiku. As she cheers in excitement, this causes him to fall backwards to the ground.

Book 3: Sun

    Chapter 1: Sol Regem
  • Zym trying multiple times to run the heck away from Sol Regem and Callum has to keep him in his arms like an uncooperative puppy.
    • When Rayla later goes over to show Zym to Sol Regem, Zym tries to jump away again, causing Callum to spin around to avoid that before handing him off to Rayla.
  • Callum covers his face with his scarf and imitates a ninja with his hands forming karate chops, while Rayla looks exasperated. It's a humorous reversal from when Callum would roll his eyes at "Human Rayla."
  • When Gren returns and reports that there are no reinforcements coming since Viren was arrested for treason, Amaya makes an annoyed face to her lieutenant.
  • Callum becoming increasingly exasperated at their dwindling options.
Callum: So, sneaking is out, running is out, fighting is out. What's left?
    Rayla: (unsure) Burning to death?
    Callum: Definitely out.
    • Rayla sighs as she has to come to her least favorite course of action: reason.
  • To try and take Sol Regem off their scent, Callum gives Rayla his scarf. Unfortunately, since Callum hasn't showered in a while, the scarf stinks and Rayla recoils at the stench.
    • After Rayla recoils, Callum simply looks smug and proudly asks "Right?". Rayla's utterly unimpressed look absolutely sells the scene.
  • Callum describing his idea as "smelltriloquism", which Rayla facepalms at.
    Callum: Vensmelloquism.
    Rayla: It's a stupid idea.
  • Zym smugly kicking dirt at Sol Regem before following Rayla and Callum.

    Chapter 2: The Crown
  • Callum's shenanigans in Xadia.
    • The way he gleefully runs around with the cube to find all of the magical arcanum surrounding him. Even the dirt is magical.
    • Rayla introduces him to a fart flower. A not-so-subtle revenge for having to smell Callum's armpit-scented scarf.
  • As they ride down on the giant spinning seed, Callum clings to Rayla for dear life. When they finally land, Callum is holding Rayla in his lap, much to both of their embarrassment.
    Callum: I'm sorry, I didn't mean to—
Rayla: It's okay! It was a, uh, bumpy ride.
  • Ezran getting used to his new life as King of Katolis.
    • As he tries to leave his room, the guards pull their poleaxes away to allow him to go through. But when he backs away, they put the weapons back in their previous positions. Ezran repeats this a few times to his absolute glee.
    • The baker now holding no grudge on Ezran for stealing his tarts, offers him a full tray of freshly baked jelly tarts. Ezran begins to take some with the guards repeating everything he says, and he politely asks them to stop.
Guard: The king requests we stop repeating him!
    Ezran: ...Uh.
Guard: (beat) I just realized after I said it.
    • A small Running Gag for the two guards who affirm whether or not what Ezran says counts as a command with, "That checks out".
  • Crow Master returns to read out the unread messages. In the same manner that you would get an email notification on how many missed messages you have. Apparently, they have to go through 417 messages, with a guard rolling in a wheelbarrow. It dives further into the analogy when Opeli notes that they can start with the messages marked "urgent."
  • Claudia trying to convince the other adults that they weren't conspiring with their father and they were trying to save the princes, not kill them. At Opeli's outrage, Claudia starts to dig herself deeper.
  • Soren seems to have really hit rock bottom as he solemnly munches on bread the guards gave them.
Claudia: Why are you stacking your bread like that?!
Soren: (holding three pieces of bread together) It's a bread sandwich.
  • After Opeli confides with Ezran that he can have a regent take his place while he can focus on being a kid, Ezran asks Bait if he'd like to be his regent.
    Bait: (croaks)
    Ezran: I agree. You'd be a tyrant.

    Chapter 3: Ghost
  • At the beginning of General Amaya's interrogation by Janai, she signs something for Kazi to interpret. The very flustered interpreter describes it as:
Kazi: She suggested an unusual way in which your body might accommodate your sword.
    • When Janai grabs Amaya's chin to look at her, she demands to know if she thought this was funny. Amaya smirks and gives a curt nod.
Kazi: That's usually a common indicator for "yes".
    • The way Janai enters the circle of fire, fierce and determined... only for Kazi's arrival to be meek, carefully jumping through an opening in the fire, with the fire seeming to scorch their backside when it closes up again.
  • You liked Human Rayla? Get ready to meet...Elf Callum!
Callum: All me best mates are trees!
    • Rayla face palming throughout Callum trying to act like an elf.
Callum: High four! [Rayla reluctantly gives him one] Down low! [Rayla leaves while Zym gives Callum a low-four with his tail]
  • While what actually happens is clearly a heartbreaking moment, it makes it hard not to giggle when you realize that Rayla is essentially getting ghosted.
  • Callum greeting Ethari: "Trees to meet you."
Ethari: Trees to meet you too.
Rayla: (not amused) Don't humor him.

    Chapter 4: The Midnight Desert
  • Callum having no idea how to control his steed as it constantly flails him about or bucks him around.
  • Callum dropping his elf disguise and posing like Sailor Moon.
Callum: It was me! I was the human all along!
    • Heck, even his steed poses with him!
  • Nyx introducing herself with an Overly Long Name before going with her nickname.
Rayla: Hi, Nyx. My name's Rayla. They call me, "Rayla".
  • Callum sees a boomerang and his eyes widen as he's unsure why it feels so familiar.
  • Nyx trying to get her Ambler to lift its stuck foot out of the mud with hand gestures and pantomiming. Like all pets when you want them to do something, it just stares blankly at her.
  • When Nyx brings Callum and Rayla to a safe spot in the desert, she briefly explains that there's a Force Field protecting the Oasis:
  • Nyx asking Rayla and Callum whether or not they'd be needing two blankets for the night or just one. The two teens get flustered as Rayla shoves Callum's sleeping bag into his face.
  • Callum, in an effort to snap Rayla out of her funk starts listing all the good things he sees in her, and why she's a great person. Rayla misinterprets it as him advancing romantically and she kisses him. Callum flusters and explains that's not what he meant, and when it sinks in, Rayla's reaction is hilarious. Including the threat that if he breathes a word about it she will bind herself to killing him.

    Chapter 5: Heroes and Masterminds
  • Soren manages to do two classic person-smuggling techniques in a row completely wrong. First, he gives Ezran a bag, telling him he has a disguise. When the bag turns out to be empty, he explains that he meant for the bag to be the disguise. Next, Ezran suggests hiding in a cart of hay and having Soren pull it past the guards. Next thing we see is Soren walking past the guards with the cart while talking very loudly about how he needs to bring some hay to horses.
    • He's stopped by the guards, who've noticed that the hay is glowing (thanks to Bait). Cue the Oh, Crap!... until one of the guards just says that it's neat, to which Soren agrees, declaring that hay is great, and continuing on his merry way.
  • As Lujanne appears with Phoe-Phoe, she says she was surprised to get a message from Katolis with no seal and assumes it had to be from that "strapping young idiot" (Soren).
Lujanne: [reading the letter] "Dear Moon Lady"... Well, I am happy to help.
    • Soren apparently went through a pile of scrolls just to write Lujanne that one letter. He also couldn't stop jiggling his leg when he did.
  • Lujanne decides to travel and play around with some humans, donning a human disguise with a short, Sailor Moon-esque Transformation Sequence. The others are... not amused to say the least. Barius stares blankly, Opeli has a look that says "give me strength", and Corvus looks like he wishes he had gone with Ezran.
    Lujanne: Party time!
  • After an epic chase and a harrowing climb up the Ambler (a behemoth that could dwarf a castle) Callum and Rayla finally confront Nyx... who points out that since she has wings, she can just fly away whenever she pleases. Callum and Rayla are left dumbfounded that they both overlooked something so obvious.
Callum: She's right. We did forget.
  • Rayla grabs Callum and decides to swing them off the Ambler, with the two of them managing to land onto the ground without a scratch. Callum asks Rayla how she knew how to do that, and she admits that she never has and always wanted to try that.
  • As Rayla fights the soulfangs, there's a shot of Callum and Zym squee-ing like a pair of giddy fanboys at the sight of her going to town on the serpents.
    • Callum enjoys the spectacle so much that Rayla needs to remind him to run away after she and Nyx escape.
  • Nyx wanders off when she notices that Callum and Rayla were having a moment. Not a minute later, the two of them start making out as though Nyx isn't even there!
  • Viren asking Claudia where Soren went and Claudia says that he had an upset stomach and was locked up in the bathroom. However, she starts going on with the bathroom humor to the point Viren has to leave the room.
Claudia: I would only need one color to paint that picture...
    [Viren leaves the room]
    [Beat]
    Claudia: [to herself] ... Brown.
  • Claudia trying to be friendly towards Prince Kasef; but when he scoffs at her, she sticks her tongue out at him.
  • After an arguably tense scene of the Katolis guards loyal to Ezran turning against Viren, Soren finally returns and asks in a cheerful tone what he missed.
  • Rayla's expression when Callum begins to apologize for kissing her. Particularly the accompanying eye-roll she does, which presumably translates to "I like you, too, you beautiful dork." before getting that point across in a much clearer manner. (Alternatively, it could read as her meaning "Oh no. We're not doing that Will They or Won't They? nonsense." and that she's as sick of that frustrating plotline as much as the audience, to the relief of Rayllum shippers everywhere.)

    Chapter 6: Thunderfall
  • As the ambler exits the Midnight Desert, Nyx goes to wake up Callum and Rayla, who are in the midst of a Sleep Cute. Zym growls and sparks at Nyx, either because he's still angry at her attempt to take him, or because he doesn't want to interrupt the moment.
  • Nyx thanking the kids for not killing her. She means, after she betrayed them, stranded them in the desert and lied to them. Then she asks if she'd get a tip. The two teens as well as Zym give her a venomous look.
    Nyx: [Beat] Fair enough.
  • Soren attempting to sneak up on Viren to squish Aaravos's bug and Viren grabbing his wrist to stop him without looking. Viren then explains that Soren can think of it as his familiar.
Soren: So, you're saying you've adopted a little bug pal?
Viren: (long suffering sigh) Yes, Soren. He is my "little bug pal".
  • Aaravos, who we've seen as collected, charming and deceptive, playfully teases Viren when he asks if the new height of their relationship is him being the human's little "bug pal".
  • Aaravos is an insubstantial specter, who spends most of his time around Viren simply floating ... but felt it necessary to conjure up a spectral horse to ride on during the march. At one point, while listening to Viren's story, he's laying down on the horse's back, like a schoolkid at a sleepover sharing gossip.
  • Prince Kasef gets some first hand experience with the new Royal Family of Katolis. It doesn't go well:
    • When Soren tries to talk with Kasef, he mispronounces Neolandia as "Noodleoodlia".
    • Prince Kasef being confused on Soren and telling Claudia that he was quite... "quirky". Claudia tells him "Most of the time people say I'm the quirky one." Then she blows a raspberry and makes a silly face when he isn't looking.
    • Then Prince Kasef sees that Viren is talking to himself (actually Aaravos). Soren says that's ridiculous. Viren is talking to his little bug pal. It's pretty clear that at this point Kasef is starting to wonder just what sort of allies he has.

    Chapter 7: Hearts of Cinder
  • Callum asks Rayla if they should tell the Dragon Queen about their relationship, and Rayla says she doesn't think it will come up. After this, the two exchange in a playfully dramatic banter.
Callum: Oh, I see. You're saying we should hide it from her. Kind of a... secret, forbidden-romance situation?
Rayla: (hamming it up) Yes. Yes, that's right. (puts her finger to Callum's lips) The Dragon Queen must never know!
Callum: (acting somberly) I understand. The world just isn't ready for what we have.
  • Kazi is talking with Amaya and thinking the interrogation between them is going very well.
Kazi: I mean, you're not dead.
  • Ezran's (and Bait's) reaction when learning that Callum and Rayla hooked up while they were separated. Even Bait has a Jaw Drop.
    (Callum and Rayla kiss)
Ezran: (confused) Hey, that isn't part of the spell.
Callum: (realizing) Uh, yeah! So, uh...you were gone for a while, and now, this is a thing, so...
(Rayla covers his face in embarrassment before peeking through her fingers)
Ezran: What? (Beat as Ezran slowly comes to the realization) Whaaaaaa...
    • The whole reason Ezran and Bait learn it is because Callum and Rayla were still lightheaded and reflexively kissed each other.
      • If you look closely, you can see Bait's jaw drop occurred while Ezran first asked "What?", meaning Bait realized the implications before Ezran did.
    • Callum's and Rayla's reactions are just as priceless; Callum looks and acts like he got caught with his hand in a cookie jar while Rayla covers her face in embarrassment (while peeking through her fingers).
    • What really sells it is the hilariously abrupt Smash Cut in the middle of Ezran's Big "WHAT?!".

    Chapter 8: Dragonguard
  • Once Soren reaches the bottom of the mountain, he lets his horse go and tells him to go live a new life in Xadia. Maybe they'll get lucky and find a nice unicorn to settle down with.
  • Gazing upon the Storm Spire, Soren tells the mountain "Prepare to be dominated!". Smash Cut to Soren exhausted and struggling to breathe from the thin atmosphere, admitting that he probably shouldn't have tried to climb a mountain in full armor (though to his credit, he makes it about as far as Callum and Rayla did before finally collapsing).
  • After Callum helps Soren get his breath back, he asks them:
    Soren: Is this the afterlife?
Callum: No it's still just... the life. Still. You're alive.
    • He then asks for them to wait a moment as he catches his breath.
      Soren: Okay... We're all doomed.
  • During his briefing on the lengths Viren has gone with power to come here and destroy Zym, the others look to talk about the matter and Soren is taking a long and loud slurp from his cup of tea.
Soren: I did say the word "doomed", right?
  • Ibis shows Callum how he creates his own wings and Callum excitedly asks him to teach him. When Ibis starts to respond with the condescending "humans can't learn primal magic" speech Callum has heard a lot before, you can tell Callum is sick and tired of it. With a look on his face that utterly screams "I am so done hearing this", Callum casually draws Fulminus and throws a lightning bolt into the side of the mountain. The look on Ibis face is like someone who just had a fish walk up and ask the time of day.
  • Amaya greeting her nephews and Callum sorts out her misunderstanding with Rayla. Callum then makes note of Amaya's own "elf friend" as Janai appears.
Janai: (visibly blushing) She's not my friend, she's my prisoner.
    • Amaya's signed response makes it even better.
Amaya: She thinks I'm cute; she just won't admit it yet.
      • Janai's expression while Amaya is signing that is also pretty amusing in its own right.

    Chapter 9: The Final Battle
  • Soren having a heart-to-heart with Callum and apologizing for antagonizing him in the earlier seasons. But still makes some jabbing remarks while he's at it.
Soren: So, I picked on you, because I didn't know any better. And because you're smaller and weaker.
Callum: (beat) Oh, thanks I guess.
Soren: (chuckling) And slower... I forgot slower.
    • He then offers to make up through a Bear Hug. Callum is not quite enthusiastic about it, but Soren goes through with it, somewhat crushing the prince in his arms as Rayla chuckles nearby.
  • One of Viren's men tells him they are ready to charge at his command. Cue Prince Kasef charging the battlefield early. Everyone stares at Viren in a long silence.
Viren: (beat, then he sighs) It's fine. Let's just do this.
  • When The Cavalry finally arrives to aid Ezran and Callum and their group, Barius, the royal baker is right there at the front, confidently brandishing his Rolling Pin of Doom. He one ups himself by participating in the fighting, with no armor beyond his typical apron, using jelly tarts to blind enemy soldiers before hitting them with his rolling pin. Also counts as awesome.
  • After the battle is won, Zubeia finally awakens, allowing her to reunite with Zym and see that humans and elves have come together. It is a joyous, profound moment in the history of Xadia...and Barius the baker is eating a jelly tart like it's an everyday occurrence.
  • Amaya giving Janai a nudge to get her to hold hands.

Book 4: Earth

    Chapter 1: Rebirthday
  • When a messenger comes to inform Callum that the King's council is assembling, Callum gets distracted going on a tangent about how the guy doesn't have to use his official "High Mage" title, he can just call him "Prince Callum"... or actually just regular Callum... but he doesn't actually have to say "regular."
Callum: ...Okay, I'm sorry, now I don't remember what you came to tell me.
    Messenger: King's counci—
Callum: Council meeting! Right, on my way!
  • Soren calling Callum "step-mage".
Soren: Still funny. Gets a little bit funnier every time. Ha ha! That's how these things work.
  • After entering the council room, Ezran doesn't want to start quite yet, because they are still waiting for someone. It turns out to be Bait. Who has a custom-made high chair at the council table.
  • Ezran reveals that Zubeia is visiting Katolis and that it will help to bring peace between their people and Xadia. Callum states that Zubeia only eats three people a day and that it's a small price to pay for peace.
  • Viren recaps to Claudia that they have only one month to find Aaravos. She tells him to be clear, it's 30 days because it's not a 31-day month. "We don't get the extra day."
  • Every part of Viren meeting Claudia's new boyfriend Terry, an Earthblood Elf. After he regains his composure, Viren just gives a disapproving stare as Terry fumbles his introduction.
Terry: (to Claudia) I think that went well.
  • According to Soren, the floss has apparently become the newest dance craze among the Katolis youth.
Soren: All the kids are doing it!
    • Later its shown during Callum's party, that he's actually correct.
Opeli: All the kids are doing it. [groans] Soren was right.
  • The mere fact that Soren and Corvus went through a lot of quite entertaining trouble to keep Callum from knowing about his own surprise birthday party.
  • We get to see that in 2 years, Janai and Amaya have confirmed shipper's speculations and become a loving couple. However Janai tries to propose to Amaya in a roundabout manner, by way of using a surprise of fire ribbon dancers after leaving her alone for "important business." The ever-alert Amaya takes this as an assassination attemptnote  and fights back, knocking out 2 dancers and pinning the third to a tree with her shield. Thankfully Janai returns in time to stop any permanent damage to the dancers, and reveals her intentions. Even when the dancers mention that Amaya's "a beast", she admits that's precisely why she loves her.

    Chapter 2: Fallen Stars
  • Even dragonlings hate to eat their veggies, and Ibis trying the "here comes the airplane" trick with his wind magic just provides Zym with a moving target to zap. When they hear the Dragon Queen coming, Ibis quickly tosses the entire pile into the distance so she doesn't get mad.

    Chapter 3: Breathtaking
  • Crosses over into heartwarming, but Ezran can only get about halfway through his formal welcome before Zym tackles him with a hug.
  • Being the jelly tart fanatic Ezran is, his reaction to seeing the wagon sized one made for Zubeia, looks exactly how you think it would.
  • After licking off the Jelly that's splattered onto her muzzle, Zubeia has this to say.

  • When Callum shows up late to perform the magical display he was meant to do for the Dragon Queen, he's in such a rush he accidentally sends his spell into the above mentioned giant jelly tart...causing it to explode, sending jelly everywhere.
    • Barius the Baker discovering the meaning of "Shablow".
    • Two guards are holding each other after the explosion, and then separating quickly realizing what they were doing. They were male and female, by the way.

Chapter 4: Through the Looking Glass
  • After receiving Ibis' warning, Zubeia declares its time to leave, only to find that Zym has run off. This causes her to sigh and comment how willful he's been lately. The burden's of parenthood are heavy even to the dragon queen.
  • When Callum goes to bring the mirror with them he enlists Soren's help when he can't budge the thing, who proceeds to lift the entire mirror above his head, along with Callum,
Soren: What? Its called muscles. Flexio!
  • Zubeia's little, "Well, I am a storm dragon" brag when she uses magic to cloud the spire.
  • The Breaking Speech Aaravos gives to Ezran, Rayla, and Soren via a possessed Callum is both a chilling testament to his power and a mean-spirited Kick the Dog moment. The playful little "Ouch!" he gives after picking at Soren's parental issues, however, is a chuckleworthy little bit of Black Comedy in an otherwise unnerving scene.

    Chapter 5: The Great Gates
  • When Zubeia questions who could possibly be trying to free Aaravos, Soren immediately realizes that its Claudia, deducing that it was Aaravos who had been manipulating his dad and that Claudia is now picking where their (now alive) father left off... and then bluntly adds that Claudia's broken bracelet was still on the floor, which Stella promptly freaks out and hisses at.
  • Chert and Terbium, the two stone keepers of the Great Gates of Umber Tor. When Terbium says they're guardians, Chert immediately interjects that they're more doormen, since they just open the doors. They begin bickering, to the confusion of the others, to the point that Zubeia shouts "Enough bickering!" and tells them to open the doors so they can speak with Rex Igneous. The two stone creatures explain that Rex Igneous is not accepting visitors right now, so they should try again in the next century. At this point, Zubeia loses her patience and tells them to admit her as the Dragon Queen, or she will destroy them, punctuating it with a Mighty Roar that knocks Chert flat on his back.
Terbium: Um, we accept your arguments.
    Chert: Quite logical.
    • Chert and Terbium immediately open the gates, only to discover that there's been a cave in and the way is blocked.
Chert: That wasn't there eighty years ago!
    • After Soren fails to move one of the boulders, Chert suggests they use the back entrance which isn't dragon sized. Terbium scolds him to not reveal secrets to outsiders, while Zubeia sounds completely done with the two.
Zubeia: Why didn't you mention this before?!
  • As Viren's party moves through the woods, the Chrysalis child makes motions with its hands, trying to communicate with them. Claudia believes that it's "lizard in a hat", much to Viren's exasperation. Later, the child draws something on the ground, which Terry concludes is... a lizard in a hat. Claudia and Terry really were made for each other.

    Chapter 6: The Drakewood
  • When Zym shows up unexpectedly having snuck out, in defiance of his mum, to join the gang on their dangerous mission, Rayla has this to say.
Rayla: Well, this is great. Now, it doesn't matter that we have no idea how to get to Rex Igneous or that we lost Soren, because the Dragon Queen is going to kill us anyway. [Puts on a fake smile] Good try team. [Scowl]
    • Stella matches her expression.
  • While perhaps a tad insensitive, Amaya's Deadpan Snarker response to Karim's outrage is still funny.
Karim: She profaned a sacred rite! What would the punishment be in the Human Kingdoms?
Amaya: For blowing out a candle? Usually some clapping, followed by a slice of birthday cake.
  • Ezran experiences the downside of sharing a psychic link with a flying lizard.
Ezran: [wipes his tongue after Zym eats a bug] Ugh! I did not expect to taste that.

    Chapter 7: Beneath the Surface
  • When Callum takes a moon opal from the crystal cavern, N'than compliants his choice, saying the "moon ones" are the prettiest, which Callum enthusiastically agrees with as Rayla is standing behind them, inciting a smile from the Moonshadow Elf. Realization dawning on him, Callum quickly, and nervously, does some Verbal Backpedaling, saying he meant the opals, causing Rayla's expression to sour.
  • Rayla's antics while crossing the bridge. Especially because its pitch black, so we have no idea if she's actually joking or not.
Rayla: This bridge isn't so treacherous. In fact, I'm going to do a cartwheel!
Callum: Uh, Rayla I'm not sure that's such a great—
    Rayla: Whee! [laughing]
Rayla: Ugh, I was teasing, Callum. Just lighten up and enjoy the darkness.
  • Zym seems to perform a Heroic Sacrifice by drawing the monsters pursuing them over the bridge and into the depths below. As the others look down mournfully into the darkness, the camera pans over to Zym putting a comforting claw on Ezran's shoulder. It takes a few seconds for it to sink in for everyone.
  • Callum and Rayla subjecting each other to severe Mood Whiplash. Callum at first seems to be ready to talk to his girlfriend about his feelings, only to instead ask her for a Mercy Kill Arrangement should Aaravos takes control over him again, prompting a Big "WHAT?!" from her. Afterwards Rayla appears to making a move to kiss Callum, which he looks receptive to, but she instead honks his nose.
  • Terry says that he's considered Viren's "Get a grip" philosophy and he's not going to stop having feelings. Nevertheless, there is one part he thinks they could both use... a big, old hug.
    Viren: Please do not.

    Chapter 8: Rex Igneous
  • When the eponymous dragon emerges to meet with the gang, N'than begins listing his various titles. Some are more impressive than others.
N'than: Oh wise and powerful Archdragon of Earth! Oh master of boulders great and pebbles small! Oh shaker of soil and, uh, grower of...grass!
  • In order to seek an audience with him, Rex Igneous requires that visitors give him a gift. Rayla offers her daggers, Callum offers Ibis' staff, and Ezran offers his crown. Rex Igneous finds them insufficient, saying that he's received so many treasures over the centuries that they've lost their luster. He then tells them to run in a way that shows this has happened a lot over the centuries, to the point that it's formulaic.
Rex Igneous: I am as tired of gifts as I am of visitors. So let's get on with it, shall we? You will run, I will chase, you will die.
  • Ezran then realizes that Rex Igneous wants the gift of a new experience, so Ezran offers him one: eating a brown sludge tart. The Mass "Oh, Crap!" that Callum, Rayla, Zym, Bait, and Stella have in response is priceless, while Rex Igneous' tone of voice indicates that he's unsure whether he should feel surprised or insulted.
Rex Igneous: ...this is your offering? A pastry?
Ezran: Oh, well, if you don't want it...
Rex Igneous: No, wait, no. I will try your...tart.
  • Bait not only faints at the sight of Rex opening his maw to get the treat from Ezran, but he has to be propped back up by Stella.
  • Amaya's solution to an ages old adage?
Janai: In Lux Aurea there is a saying. You cannot have your cake and eat it too!
Amaya: [signing] Amaya has a saying. Just have two cakes.

Chapter 9: Escape from Umber Tor
  • When the boys reach the Great Gates of Umber Tor, they frantically try to push them open before Rex Igneous arrives and kills them. What are Chert and Terbium doing on the other side? Building a Jenga tower while dismissing the rumbling.
    Chert: Did you hear something?
Terbium: Hm, it's probably just your stomach rumbling.
Chert: Mm...I haven't had a snack in over a decade.
  • Bait's feeble little charge being the vital Last Straw needed to get the titanic gates open would be funny enough on its own, but the addition of epic slow motion to the scene, really elevates the absurdity.
  • Even in the face of what appears to be their imminent demise, Callum can't help but snark at Soren's sudden pessimism after his big Power of Friendship moment.
Soren: This is the end. We're doomed.
Callum: What about the strength in our heart? Like a minute ago you were saying the only strength that matters is the—
    Soren: Doomed.
  • After Zubeia forces Rex Igneous to retreat to Umber Tor, the Dragon Queen immediately turns her anger upon Zym for sneaking out. Soren then points out that this is a good thing.
Soren: But if he hadn't defied you, then you wouldn't have showed up to save the day, so we'd all be super dead.
    Ezran: So there is that.
Zubeia: Yes, there is that. I am glad you you are not all...super dead.
  • After pulling her from the rubble, Callum hugs Rayla in relief. Rayla looks a little surprised, but decides to just go with the flow. Ezran and Soren then turn it into a group hug, and N'than then joins them. Zym looks about ready to join the hug, but first looks at his mother, knowing he's still in trouble. Zubeia nods, as if thinking "Yes, you may hug your friends, but then you're grounded for the next century". Zym proceeds to tackle the group in his eagerness.

Book 5: Ocean

    Chapter 1: Domina Profundis
  • Rayla speaking to the coins containing the souls of her parents and Runaan, solemnly vowing that she will find a way to free them. Then when Callum walks in, she tries to cover her tracks and claims she was talking to Bait.
Callum: You were making a solemn vow to Bait?
  • Claudia attempts to perform a calming mantra by repeating "There is no synonym for cinnamon." Terrestrius suggests spice, which Claudia maintains is a category, not a synonym, followed by Terrestrius saying that in the Earthblood Elf language, there are multiple words that are specifically synonyms for cinnamon.
  • Callum looking through the library for information has him running into the same problem as Viren, the page turning blank before his eyes. Unlike Viren, Callum attempts to open and close it several times like a person rebooting a computer, growing increasingly annoyed when that fails. He even tries to open the page a crack to see if peeking won't set off the enchantment... to no success. His noise also catches the attention of the librarian.
  • Rayla looking through Viren's old study has her commenting on the various jars of Dark Magic ingredients with disgust... except for the last one which turns out to be peanut butter.
Rayla: I guess dark mages get snacky too?
  • Callum and Rayla discussing their plan to find a book on Startouch Elves is briefly derailed at his confusion that the Sunfire Elves call their library "The Great Bookery". Then he agrees with Rayla that bookery sounds better than library.
    • Afterwards he decides to give another talk to her... through Bait's dog door.

    Chapter 2: Old Wounds
  • Rayla, unlike Callum, or even Stella, is naturally not a morning person. Fortunately Barius' appearance helps her through the ordeal, first by his bellowing causing her to fly off her mount, and then being introduced to "Hot Brown Morning Potion".
  • While Soren offers Ez his sympathies over the responsibilities thrust upon him, he's not too kind to his two other friends.
You deserve time to do kids stuff. if you spend all your time doing adult stuff now, you'll grow up weird, like your brother and Rayla.
  • As Claudia falls asleep while standing from pure exhaustion, the Chrysalis Child again begins shouting "blood of child", causing Terry to try to shush it.
Terry: (whispering) Sir! She needs to sleep!
Chrysalis Child: (now whispering) Blood of child!
    Terry: That's better.
    • The fact that Terry calls the Chrysalis Child "Sir" implies that he and Claudia are stilling calling it "Sir Sparklepuff".

    Chapter 3: Nightmares & Reflections
  • Wanting a distraction from her recurring nightmare, Janai thinks picking flowers for her wedding will be much easier to deal with, only to be prove herself wrong when she's unable to choose between two options.
  • Thanks to Gren being vague on Amaya's 'big news' Callum and Rayla burst into the tent as Janai is picking flowers, clearly expecting a fight and asking if the world is ending. Callum is happy to hear the news is actually good, but when asked why they are here, sheepishly answers that the world might actually be ending.
    Callum, Rayla and Stella: Surpise.
    • Later on, Callum is catching Amaya and Janai by giving a complete play by play of Season 4, with the two women looking bored and an annoyed Rayla chides him for taking so long. The Moonshadow Elf gives a brief description of Aaravos and their plan to kill him, and in response Callum pouts that his story was good.
  • Frustrated over being forbidden to go to Lux Aurea, while venting about everyone treating them like children, Callum draws a doodle of himself, (with a cape) zapping Aaravos with magic, accompanied by a little drawing of Rayla winking and giving two thumbs up.
    • It's fairly simplistic for him too, implying he's just in too foul a mood to use his usual level of detail.
  • Later on, both Amaya and Janai admit they knew the two would go anyway, and both comment that Callum is a terrible liar when he tries to save face.
  • Kazi joins the trip to Lux Aurea, and packs several books along with them. When Callum questions doing so when they're vising the Great Bookery, they sheepishly admits they're two years overdue.

    Chapter 4: The Great Bookery
  • When the group arrives at The Great Bookery, Kazi reminisces on their time there as a university student... during which they figured out how to open the book drop and stayed in there to read books through the night.
  • As Callum and Kazi start searching the section on Startouch Elves, they ask Callum if they're looking for books on Startouch culture, or history. They are rather shocked when he bluntly says they're looking for how to kill one.
  • Callum using Bait as a makeshift paperweight so he can read one of the scrolls he's found.
  • Just how fast Amaya goes from apologising to Rayla for how poorly their first meeting went to reading her the riot act for how she hurt Callum.
  • Callum excitedly tells Rayla that Quasar Quartz's (one of the things he needs for the spell to free her parents and Runaan from the coins) are conveniently in the same place as the Novablade! But since she wasn't there when he and Kazi made the discovery she responds she doesn't know what he's talking about.

    Chapter 5: Archmage Akiyu
  • Callum describes his plan to ambush and kill Aaravos with the Novablade... with gratuitous Buffy Speak and using his staff to poke Ezran in the chest as he describes stabbing the Startouch Elf.
  • Soren's plan to keep the incredibly large birds away? Have the group walk with the nearby giant shells above them, and playing a game of red light green light many stealth game veterans will recognise.
    • When the others throw off their shells, Soren is the only one stuck, complaining that this always happens with his muscles.
  • Tina asks what she should call the group when talking to Akiyu (via conch), Soren responds with "a group of brave ragtag adventurers". She then refers to them as "a group of ragtag weirdos".
  • The group has to swim through part of the cave to reach Archmage Akiyu, and Rayla's fear once again rears it's head. She tells Callum to push her in, and when he refuses gives him a shove, claiming she did it first, so now he has an excuse.
  • Soren slowly recognising the "cave" the others walked into is a mouth and frantically trying to warn the others somehow becomes this, thanks to them mishearing him from the closed mouth muffling his voice, and Ezran's deadpan Oh, Crap! at realising where they are.
    • Just how quickly they escape thanks to Ezran telling Zym to give the thing "a zappy dragon tummyache".
  • Deciding she can't let them know the location of Aaravos' grave, Tina downs a vial of poison and starts to pass away with a dramatic final speech... only to get straight back up and angrily berate the group when they reveal they want to stop the people who are actually trying to free him. Turns out they could have gotten that information from the get go if they had just told her why they were there.
    • When a distraught Ezran asks if there's anything they can do to stop the poison from killing her, she says she just downed her vitamin drink.
  • When giving the others what they need to find Aaravos' prison, Akiyu goes to hand an amulet to Callum, who excitedly starts asking questions about the Ocean Arcanum, especially if she has tips.
Akiyu: When your mind is telling you to speak, instead you must listen.
Callum: Oh, wow. That does sound like some deep Ocean Arcanum wisdom.
Akiyu: It's just a polite way of saying shut up already will you?!
    • Akiyu referring to Callum as "the wizard of awkward".

    Chapter 6: Bait and Switch
  • When Rayla tells them they need to blend in to Scumport, Soren eagerly comes up with a persona he calls 'Smort Longpocket', an intrepid merchant. Callum then offers to play the role of his trusty bodyguard. Watching this back and forth, an unamused Rayla tells them to just try to not draw attention.
    • Later one, Soren actually gets to play the role as part of their plan to steal from Finnegrin. His disguise? A fur cape and a fake moustache.
  • As the group make their way through the market, Rayla is forced to stop Soren from purchasing "essential oils" from a stall, with him complaining they have lavender.
  • Rayla and Soren's attempts to find a ship to take them south. Highlights include:
    • Soren offering to pay for their trip with hard labour as he flexes his muscles... only to wilt at the sight of the sailor over a head taller than him.
    • Rayla asks one sailor if he'd be willing to sail them for a young dragon. The sailor asks if he gets the dragon for giving them a trip, causing Rayla to hastily clarify she means giving a ride for the cute young dragon... that is currently held in Soren's as though he is still newly hatched, despite being the size of a small horse. Predictably, the sailor refuses.
  • Finnegrin mistakes Ezrans refusal to trade Bait for transport as bargaining, and changes his offer for half the glowtoad... and he gets to choose which half he gets.
  • Minor, but before engaging the water dragon Claudia decides to answer it's roar with her own.

    Chapter 7: Sea Legs
  • The reason Nyx is now Villads second mate? She won his ship in a game, though the two still debate over the results at present, and who is actually in charge. She also insists on her title being Commodore instead of Captain.
  • The guard discussing his breakfast Rayla snuck past all the way back in Book 1 makes a return, telling a Sunfire Elf whose post he shares about a new recipe involving an egg on a muffin combined with a sausage. Even more amusingly, the Elf seems genuinely excited about the concept as well!
  • Soren goes to rescue one of the Baitlings that fell into the water, forgetting that he's wearing armour. After Zym gets the baby Glowtoad out, he requests that if they see Claudia again to tell her he said. "Hi"... just as they toss him a rope and tell him to climb back on the ship.
    • As the sea leviathan swims away, he complains about it wanting to eat a glowtoad but not him, acting genuinely offended. Ezran then assures him that if he were a sea monster, he'd gobble him right up, which actually cheers Soren up!
  • While everyone looks in shock as the Sea Legs sprouts actual legs, revealing it to be alive, a confused Villads asks why everyone has stopped talking.

    Chapter 8: Finnegrin's Wake
  • A mix of this and heartwarming, but when Finnegrin tries to make Callum choose which of his friends should get a hand cut off, they all start volunteering for the punishment, to his beffuddlement.
Finnegrin: What is wrong with you?
  • After Finnegrin is dealt with, Villads takes off his hat, revealing that Berto was hiding underneath for the entire episode.
  • When Nyx returns at the end, the others are naturally incensed at her abandoning them, including Villads as he points accusingly... in the wrong direction.
  • Elmer smiling near the end of the episode, which he clearly hasn't done in a while.

    Chapter 9: Infantis Sanguine
  • Claudia's frustration that the island on the map to Aaravos' prison is nowhere to be found helps Terry realise that the brown bit they've been following isn't part of the map, it's a piece of gunk from the dragons teeth! Which he nervously conveys to his testy girlfriend.
  • In the midst of revealing that the Chrysalis Child is technically his and Viren's offspring, Aaravos says that it clearly has his eyes... though remarks the voice probably comes from Viren's side of the family.

Ending Cards

     Season 1
  • The male guard talking about his breakfast plan and how he wanted "two eggs and a sausage" gets that in the ending card.
  • Different characters sitting on Soren as he does push-ups, from Claudia, to Bait. Claudia and the royal siblings end up all sitting on Soren's back as he falls down under all of the weight.
  • The episode after Soren has the epiphany that history was like a see-saw, cue a card with him and Bait on a see-saw.
  • A young Rayla getting a bath and screaming as she tries to swim out of the tub.
  • Ellis's previous conversation with Callum, saying that as a mage, she was expecting to see him wear a huge amulet or something. Cut to Callum in an ending card looking at an oversized amulet that Ellis seems to approve.
  • Baby Bait

     Season 2
  • Lujanne playing chess against an illusion of herself.
  • Claudia cooking her pancakes with a chef's hat... and her eyes are dark showing that she's using dark magic.
  • In another scene with Lujanne, this time the elf is arm wrestling with herself, while another illusion of herself spectates.
  • An image of King Ahling's son looking grumpily at a plate full of vegetables.
  • Harrow finding out Bait loves belly scratches and scratching the glow toad's stomach.
  • The image of Aaravos as he holds out a wineglass with fireworks going off in the back looks similar to The Great Gatsby.
  • The guards finally find Gren, who cheerfully waves at them.
  • In episode 7, Claudia casts a spell using a gryphon eyeball. Come the ending credits, there's a drawing of a very disgruntled gryphon with an eyepatch.

     Season 3
  • After episode 5, Callum apparently got some cactus juice.
    • In another credit scene, just to drive the Actor Allusion joke home, he's also wielding an iconic boomerang.
  • The baker being part of the Queen Aanya's backup doubles as a crown moment of heartwarming, but him using fruit tarts and a rolling pin against the previously unbeatable Sunfire-zombie troops firmly cements that moment as hilarious.
  • Kasef, even when warped into a monster by magic, still hates his vegetables.
  • One of the last cards of the season has Ezran offering Zubeia - the Dragon Queen herself, remember - a jelly tart, because of course he is. Truly, peace between the Human Kingdoms and Xadia has been achieved.

     Season 4
  • Claudia tranforming her hand into a tentacle to help pick her nose.
  • In episode 5, one of the images is of a lizard in a hat.
  • Another from episode 5 shows Aaravos', Gollum like, homunculus all dressed up in a fancy top hat, vest and monicle, having apparently taken to the Sir part of Sir Sparklepuff.
  • Episode 7 shows the resident animal sidekicks blinged out in jewelry. Another shows one of the horrifying, light-hating monsters from earlier in the episode... wearing cool sunglasses.
  • Episode 8 shows Amaya holding two cakes.
  • Rex Igneous, the fearsome and powerful Archdragon of the Earth, wearing a cone shaped party hat, now truly making him a lizard in a hat.
