INCOMING TRANSMISSION

We are being watched.

The government has a secret system - a machine - that spies on you every hour of every day. I know, because I built it. I designed the machine to detect acts of terror, but it sees everything, violent crimes involving ordinary people - people like you. The government considers these people irrelevant, but we don’t.

Victim, or perpetrator… If your number is up, we’ll find you.

END TRANSMISSION

RUN savethem.sh? (Y/N)

Exec- Save Them is a closed Tumblr and Discord-based Danganronpa roleplay group, drawing inspiration from the TV series Person Of Interest. When twenty students are locked in an unknown facility, and are forced to kill each other off in order to escape, all seems lost, but then a pay phone rings... On the other end, a mechanized voice parrots numbers back at them. The same amount of numbers each time. Enough numbers... to match a student ID?

What could they mean? Given a student ID, can you protect your classmates? Or will you be forced to watch them die, and go to trial to find their killer? The choice is yours, whether to execute...or save them.

How can you even escape? What with a thousand eyes watching, and a million ears listening...

Shiori Mayoshi

SHSL Cryptozoologist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shiori.png

"Aw, cheer up! You can ask them about hugging after we're outta here."

Shiori Mayoshi was raised by a folklorist, and grew up hearing about monsters and cryptids all his life. Mayoshi grew fond of the creatures in the tales, and made it his life’s mission to learn more about them. After claiming to have followed a singular Tengu throughout Japan from the ages 14 to 16, Mayoshi returned to his hometown, saying that he had found undeniable proof of the existence of the creature. Over the next year, Mayoshi continued to explore the woodlands of Japan, coming back with journals filled to the brim with evidence he had found of the (many) kinds of cryptids Japan offered. He made copies of the notebooks and sold them to other cryptozoologists, and grew infamous throughout the community, and eventually was offered a spot as a student at the prestigious Hope’s Peak Academy.

Shigemi Kiyono

SHSL School Band Member

"This is something set up by the government, right? Or some sort of authority?"

Shigemi Kiyono, born in Kyoto, is a 17 year old musician who has risen to fame through his school band. He started practicing instruments in only 7th grade, but has still proven to be a prodigy when it comes to most instruments and has always risen to the top above the rest of his classmates. He specialises in trumpet and has won several awards on his skill. However, to this day, his name isn’t usually recognized for his talent, but for his father. His father is previously wanted public enemy, Akinori Kiyono, who was finally caught about 8 years ago. Ever since his arrest and reveal, the young Shigemi has received an overwhelming lot of attention, but strives to prove that he is nothing like his notorious father and to redeem his family name.

SHSL Good Luck

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moriarty_4.png

"Nya."

Not much is known about the SHSL Good Luck, Moriarty - except you can catch him and his strange cockatoo-like hairstyle every weekend night - when he’s supposed to be studying for tests! - at a gambling club called Higanbana. He’s said to have never lost a gamble, and he’s a legend to gamble against. So what earned him the SHSL Good Luck title instead of the SHSL Gambler title? No one knows for sure, but Moriarty has made a killing in Japan’s gambling underground...

Isamu Ueda

SHSL Private Investigator

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/isamu.png

"I'm not trying to play God here. If I was, I would have already finished this."

Isamu Ueda is a private investigator working out of his office in the Shibuya ward of Tokyo, Japan. His business is known as “Private Eye Dealings” and is supposedly the only employee of the office. His most notable achievements include solving the cases known as TK-5, GF-2, and VX-8.

Chapter 3 culprit. Executed.

  • Anime Hair: It's pink.
  • Batman Gambit: Murdered Moriarty hoping that the others would be willing to sacrifice someone innocent to grant his wish, which was all of them escaping.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: For the third motive, he wished for everyone to escape. He killed for this wish, but Control told them before the execution that his idea of 'escape' is merely to kill them all, so even if his plan had worked, they all would have died.
  • Can't Take Criticism: He didn't exactly take what Isabella and Ryuu had to dish out very well. Granted, they had both unintentionally dug into every sore spot he had.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Shot through the heart by someone he once knew.
  • Private Detective: Well, investigator.

Tsuneo Enjou

SHSL Daredevil

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/neo_8.png

"If I can make it happen, then I made it happen. And if I don’t, then I’ll just suck it up and move on! Easy rules to enjoy a needlessly complicated life."

It’s a bird…It’s a plane…It’s Nutty Neo hurtling out of the sky at a hundred miles per hour! Tsuneo Enjou, known to the general public as Nutty Neo for the crazy feats he achieves on a regular basis, is a well-known daredevil and thrill-seeker of the highest order. The stunts he does are nothing short of extraordinary, ranging from setting the record for parachute deployment at the lowest altitude from a fixed height, to locking himself in a beehouse for two straight days, to highwire walking between the cliff walls of The Great Wall of China! Clearly, there is nothing that this young man won’t do, though recent media has shown him to be in and out of the hospital on a regular basis…Perhaps the stress of his high-profile work is starting to catch up to him?

  • Badass Adorable: The adorable part is obvious, but the badass part exhibits itself when he skilfully patches up Moriarty's wounds with the practiced efficiency of a nurse. Growing up in a hospital likely contributed to this.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: While he has a good heart, when he loses his patience with someone, he can be extremely vocal about refuting them.
    • Tranquil Fury: Slips into this when extremely angry. He has since displayed this towards Tohru, when she claimed that no one could understand how she and her girlfriend had been victims since birth (he begged to differ), and Ryuu when they had their big spat during Chapter 4.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He extends this fondness to some of his classmates, particularly Ryuu, Tohru and Yuni.
  • Circus of Fear: A survivor of one, having been raised to avoid death at all costs for fifteen years.
  • Cuddle Bug: Likes getting hugs, loves giving them more!
  • The Cutie: One of many.
  • Dumb Blonde: Downplayed. He has no formal education, but is far from being stupid. That being said, he is quite the doofus, and has a tendency to act before thinking. See below.
  • Fatal Flaw: The inability to trust others with his inner decisions, which leads to some fraught tensions when he exploits said trust in Chapter 3. At least he's fully aware of it.
    • The cause for this is revealed in Chapter 5. Two years of hiding his leukemia had left him unable to trust others with the whole truth, believing that it was better that he remained alone in the end.
  • Group Hug: Used to do these fairly often in Room 8, with Ryuu and Gyuhui. Until they have their massive falling out and he moves elsewhere. He returns to Room 8 in Chapter 5, but it's no longer a group hug when Ryuu has died, leaving Gyuhui as his sole surviving roommate.
  • The Idealist: Pledged to become a Daredevil to inspire others to be brave and overcome whatever odds were thrown against them. It's implied that he also wanted to leave a framework for others to take up his mantle once he inevitably died.
  • Keet: Always full of positive energy, and it doesn't take very long talking with him to find that out!
  • Large Ham: Get him speaking, and wait for the text blocks to end.
  • Meaningful Name: One note  that carries a lot of weight with it. It's not even his real name, which nobody knows, not even him - his real parents made no mention of it when they abandoned him, and the name he was given by his foster family was chosen simply to sound as pleasant as possible. Not that anyone's complaining.
  • Nice Guy: One of the nicest around.
  • Odd Friendship: Develops one with Tohru. She insists they're not friends - he begs to disagree.
  • Official Couple: With Tsukasa. Apparently, everyone saw it coming.
  • Perpetual Smiler
    • Stepford Smiler: Type A in spades. His impending death as a result of his terminal illness had led to him becoming a Death Seeker, and only after he's able to find happiness within the Mutual Killing Game that he finally found a reason to keep living. Demonstrated in his interactions when facing tragedy after tragedy: he wills himself to keep smiling because he's afraid that if he stops, he will never be able to regain it.
  • The Pollyanna: A male variant. When the going gets tough, the tough get going!
  • Rousseau Was Right: A firm believer in this, as expressed in his thread with Tohru. It's heavily implied that this mentality arose as a result of his heavily troubled upbringing, and that he simply hopes that no one could ever be as bad as the people who kept him as a prisoner all those years ago.
    • "Those people who hurt other people...sometimes it’s because other people hurt them first. I don’t believe anyone is intrinsically bad from the day they were born. Simply that they made a bad choice or bad choices along the way. Like you did."
  • Secretly Dying: Revealed to be afflicted with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in Chapter 5. It was the Dark Secret revealed in Chapter 2 that he has been trying to hide for the entire game.
    • Worth Living For: His wish in Chapter 3 is for a cure to his terminal illness, now that he has people he still wants to continue to live for.
  • Sweet Tooth: Peanut butter with ice cream? Really?
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Pancakes!

Ulrich Ohlhauser

SHSL Knife Thrower

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ulrich_00.png

"I've already done it perfectly once! I was the top of my class back home..."

Ulrich Ohlhauser is a foreigner originating from Germany, having moved away from his quiet home about 5 years ago. He is the SHSL Knife Thrower, an expert knife thrower and bladed weapons expert, using his expertise and finesse to entertain and wow audiences all over the country. He has had buildings sold out before for his performances of exciting heart pounding bladework! Not much is known about him besides the fact that he is half German, half Japanese, to a family of his two parents and himself, living in a high rise luxury apartment in Tokyo, Japan. Ulrich is most notable for his eccentric personality, showing up on tv screens around the country, glaring at the camera, moving with quick precision and heated passion during his performances, and threatening paparazzi with a devilish grin and one question: “Do you want to die today?”

Ryuunosuke Sakakibara

SHSL Acrobat

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ryuu_0.png

"Cool, sounds fake."

Ryuunosuke Sakakibara, self pronounced ‘world’s greatest acrobat’, seems to dance through the sky with every performance. Emerging into the national and eventually world-wide scene at 10, he’s been charming and winning over crowds with his spectacular displays agility and flexibility. Never have you ever seen someone so effortlessly look like they’re soaring through the sky. With the energetic personality to go along with the high energy job, you just might hear this kid before you see him.

Chapter 4 Victim.

  • Allergic to Routine: He's easily bored and always looking for something else to do. Once he finds something else, he gets bored with that, too!
  • Big Brother Instinct: He seems to have this for Nami, even though they're older than him. Develops it rather strongly for Ulrich as well.
  • Brutal Honesty: Invokes this with Isabella during the chapter 3 trial, to drag the culprit, Isamu, for wanting to sacrifice someone innocent.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Seems to have his head very firmly in the clouds.
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: Lost his father at some point, but hasn't told anyone when, or how, or what happened.
  • Determinator
  • Dies Wide Open
  • Group Hug: Used to do these fairly often with Neo and Gyuhui, until they have a falling out, leading to Neo moving out.
  • Good Is Not Soft
  • Everyone Hates Math: And, if you're Ryuu, English, science, literature... He pretends not to mind for Sayuri's benefit when she's excited to see the school area.
  • The Idealist: Multiple times he has said that he believes no one will kill because they're all nice people, more or less!
    • And has been consistently incorrect, along with beginning to lose trust in people he initially did believe in.
  • Motor Mouth: Please stop talking.
  • The Nicknamer: Everyone gets a nickname, until he decides that he likes them enough - then he'll switch to just their first name. Alternatively, if he hates someone enough, he'll revert to Surname.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Seems like it may be true during the chapter 2 trial, becomes blatantly true during chapter 3 when he completely drops the casual slang and goes for the metaphorical kill. He picks it back up after.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Pulls this off almost all the time, making the rare times he doesn't smile chilling. Tohru calls him out on it, but that seems to only make him do it even more.
  • Real Men Hate Sugar: He just doesn't like sweet things.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Averted. Is he even capable of negative thought.
    • He is. He really, really is.
  • Salt-Forged Friends: With Isabella, after the chapter 3 trial. They are the main two who openly berate the culprit for what they've done, and it raises their opinions of each other.
  • Stepford Smiler: A good mix of types A and B.
  • Team Mom: To everyone! He just wants everyone to get along somewhat so they can all escape.
    • Still extends this to Tohru, after Isabella breaks her wrist for attempting to murder Ulrich.
  • You Keep Telling Yourself That: Largely to Isamu and Tohru, who believed that murder is the only way they can escape.

Tsukasa Tamotsu

SHSL Paparazza

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tsukasa_9.png

"It's fine! I'm not...trying to be selfish or anything. It just hurts a little right now, with all of this, but it'll go away."

The public was shocked to discover that a 16 year old high school student was responsible for the stress and terror of several celebrities across Japan. Now that her identity is known (making stalking celebrities for photos in secret a lot more difficult) Tsukasa Tamotsu has made a name for herself as a social media presence with nearly a million followers! Most follow her for her fashion posts and criticisms, though it seems she still posts some juicy gossip from time to time, even now.

Shu Yu Wei

SHSL Acupuncturist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shu_2.png

₊*ˈ˚·Aiko☆Starlight·˚ˈ*₊

SHSL Magical Girl

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aiko_2.png

"The warriors had one simple response...For justice!!! For the people who cannot defend themselves and are in need of a hero!!!"

The mystic and magical ₊*ˈ˚·Aiko☆Starlight·˚ˈ*₊ has been a popular figure in today's media. Along with her team of Starshine defenders, she's been defeating evil and protecting Earth one battle at a- Wait a second! Isn't that just a character from an anime?

Well, despite the fictional character's popularity, it's actually about the actress who plays Aiko herself who's been a rising star as of late! While the actress herself wishes to remain anonymous, she has fully embraced her role as the legendary ₊*ˈ˚·Aiko☆Starlight·˚ˈ*₊ ! Ever since the mahou shoujou anime 'Magical Defender Aiko-chan' made its big debut young girls everywhere have been looking up to the young Magical Girl herself. Being an extremely popular show it got many anime seasons, a couple movies, and more recently a live adaptation of the show! The actress of Aiko herself has even played a big role in helping raise funds and bring awareness for children's hospitals and even collaborating with the Make a Wish Foundation, all in character of course. It’s without a doubt that Aiko is certainly making a name for herself. Along with her recent acceptance into Hope's Peak Academy, she’s sure to continue on her rise to fame and success!

Chapter 2 culprit, and executed.

  • Action Girl
  • Anime Hair: Bright pink! It's a wig.
  • Badass Adorable: She fights evil! She's super duper cute!
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Aiko is friendly and seems to get along with everyone. She ends up murdering Shigemi and reveals to be nothing like her magical girl persona.
  • Cat Girl: She has the ears and the tail!
  • Chuunibyou: Everyone seems to suspect that she's one of those, since she stays in character the entire time. No, she really is from outer space!
  • Creepy Shadowed Undereyes: When she wipes off her make up at the behest of the others, revealing she is quite, quite tired.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Her execution has Noriko fighting a witch-esque monster, that eventually drags her into murky water, only far enough down that she can easily see the surface but cannot escape.
  • Last Words: "…Just tell her Nori says she’s gonna miss her."
  • Magical Girl Warrior
  • Master Actor: She's so dedicated to her role as Aiko that most of the characters believe that she sincerely thinks she is a magical cat girl. None of them even know her real name! Turns out she's just amazing at acting, and her real name is Noriko Hanada, a girl who is the polar opposite of Aiko Starlight.
    • "If I had to stay one more day acting like some… fucking stupid cat girl 'waifu’ bullshit I was about to explode."
  • Perpetual Smiler: She was that, until chapter 2. She cries to Ryuu over someone being dead, but it turns out she's the one who did it.
  • The Pollyanna: Very cheerful and bright.
  • Third-Person Person

Isabella Flores

SHSL Guitarist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/isabella_7.png

"I’m not gambling with innocent fucking lives over a freedom. No matter what the chances."

Also known as “Luna” by her giant fanbase, Isabella Flores is both the lead singer and the guitarist for a world wide famous metal band named Death Head Moths. Some say that the most appealing (or unappealing, depending to one's taste) has to do with her, cool, always in charge nature.

The band seemed to have come out of nowhere, but instantly became a hit after signing with a huge record label in Japan. Though the band isn’t connected with the poet Hiroma Ayane, the two have a lot of overlapping fans.

  • Brutal Honesty: And how!
  • First-Name Basis: Calls everyone by their given names.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Is a good person at her core, and cares a lot for some of the others, but she won't just let people walk over her. Not at all. Murderers get the brunt of this.
  • Hypocrite: Very caring and protective to Ulrich and Tsukasa, making sure they are safe at all times. Does not have the same self care for herself.
  • Mama Bear: Towards Ulrich, for sure.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Gives one of these to Isamu during the entire trial, but especially after the confession.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Inverted. Black and red are the prominent colours of her clothes, but she's nowhere near evil. Fiery, but not evil.
  • Salt-Forged Friends: With Ryuu, after the chapter 3 trial. They are two of the only people to openly roast the culprit, for killing at all and then even more so after hearing their motivations.

Tohru Ishizuki

SHSL Tailor

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tohru_2.png

"Agent of love, defender of the weak!"

Legend has it that this tailor once threw together a bride’s dream wedding dress in only an hour. All of her works are made by hand, and she’s expressed no interest in signing up for a brand for mass production. Because of that, her commission prices are through the roof. Although originally her patrons were mainly cosplayers, it seems her work has been sought after by even corporate elites for their style and quality.

Another Chapter 2 Killer, but wasn't executed.

  • Career-Ending Injury: Has had her wrist broken, and without the proper medical care in the facility...
    • And with the way she acted during the chapter 3 trial, it wouldn't be too shocking if she got the other one broken, too.
  • Coin-on-a-String Trick: Attempts this every time she tries the Gacha machine.
  • Dark and Troubled Past
  • Freudian Excuse
  • Friendship Denial: Throws one of these at Shiori - "you're a good kid, but we were never friends."
    • Throws another of these at Neo - "...We're not friends, though. Just for now, we're something resembling 'allied'."
  • Friendship Trinket: Her choker.
  • Health Care Motivation
  • Heel Realization: Despite being adamant since the Chapter 2 trial that she isn't a good person, it doesn't hit at full force until the nightmares in Chapter 4 force her to reexamine herself.
  • Magical Girl
  • The Runaway: Of the abused kind.
  • Unlimited Wardrobe: Downplayed, as she's been sacrificing a few layers to make clothes for the others, and completely phased out after her wrist is broken.
  • With Us or Against Us
  • Yandere: Like the pair of blades on sewing scissors, cut anything that comes between them.

Yuuna Kusayanagi

SHSL Forensic Pathologist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuuna_6.png

"You don't understand. I just want to cut people open."

Yuuna Kusayanagi isn't known for much, aside from her hand in helping solve the murder of the prominent business mogul Katsuhira Agata. Nevertheless, over twenty cases have been attributed to the young woman over her short career and she doesn't seem ready to stop anytime soon.

  • Addled Addict: Though it might not be a conventional drug that she's addicted to, that doesn't make the withdraw any better.
  • Ambiguous Disorder: Even it if isn't quite clear what causes her to act how she does, it would be fair to assume.
  • Black Comedy: Not the typical sense of humor. Most of her jokes revolve around dead bodies.
    • "Corpses are just terrible at conversation."
  • Covered in Scars: Her hands and thigh are covered in them from playing with scalpels so often. Though, the scar on her left hand is from an entirely different source. Fire, to be specific.
  • Creepy Mortician: The personification of this trope, she embraces her reputation.
  • Dancin' in the Ruins: Despite the fact that they've been trapped in a Killing Game, she seems to have no problems whatsoever with the situation. In fact, she might be the most excited about it.
    • Or, she had been. Then she wasn't allowed to touch the bodies.
  • Feel No Pain: Her pain tolerance is too high to feel most wounds, which she sees no problem in taking advantage of.
  • Lack of Empathy: Her terrible social skills can be partially attributed to this.
  • Mad Doctor: Subverted, given that she isn't an actual doctor.
    • "I've come to assume that thinking I'm a doctor helps people feel better! To them, my being doctor means that I've been trained."
  • Perpetual Smiler: It would almost be scarier to see her without a smile.
  • Sanity Slippage: From the discovery of Shigemi's corpse and onwards it looks as if Yuuna's mental state has started to fall apart, with an added dose of Laughing Mad after Noriko's execution. It doesn't seem as if it'll get better anytime soon.
  • The Shut-In: She's become one of these, in the lower lab level of the building to be specific. It helps to keep her far enough from the others to keep her temper in check, and because of this even the brief occasional visit annoys her.
    • The labs also act as a reminder of her home and parents, which is one of the reasons she was so enraged when Isamu murdered Yuuya there, then didn't even bother to clean up afterwards.
  • The Unfettered: She's of the goal-devoted variety.
  • White Shirt of Death: Her signature labcoat is covered in bloodstains — it just begs the question as to whose blood it is.

Yuni Hoshiya

SHSL Flavor Chemist

"You make sure you take care of yourself too, okay? I mean it!"

A young girl who attracted waves of customers to her grandparents’ restaurant with the strange-yet-addicting taste combinations she created - including the director of a cutting-edge flavor company, which offered her an apprenticeship in spite of her age. She’s notable for producing snacks flavored after unique delicacies from around the world, such as escargot chips; even the creations that don’t catch on with the masses are often highly sought-after due to their niche value.

Hotaru Azamaku

SHSL Illusionist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hotaru.png

quote pending

Regarded perhaps most famously for her stellar Dance of a Thousand Fireflies, Hotaru Azamaku is an often discussed name on the scene of magic acts. Rivaling the promise of Cyril Takayama or even David Copperfield at such a young age, Hotaru’s promise is limitless— going beyond the usual sleight of hand and parlor tricks and branching into a whole new brand of illusionism. Though no one knows how she does it, she's done tricks where she's turned her hand into a flock of butterflies and back again, illusions where she could make her whole being appear monochrome, and, most well known, summoning a thousand Fireflies with only the snap of her fingers and the motions of her feet. If you're interested in a show that makes you question the limitations of reality, the Violet Firefly’s performance is one of the best you can watch.

Not only a pioneer in the field of illusionism, Hotaru above all seeks to bring some joy into the lives of her audiences. Many of her tricks and illusions focus on introducing the brighter side of life into the world. Hotaru very firmly believes that magic and illusionism are meant to bring about hope that the world isn't just a sequence of fixed occurrences— that there can be a little spark of mystique to everything. Because of this, she will hold annual performances with half priced viewings so that more people have a shot at seeing through her eyes. She always asks one thing of her audience- remember that there is a silver lining to every storm cloud, that there is always light in the night no matter how dim, and that there is always hope no matter how elusive it seems.

  • Affectionate Nickname: A vigorous assigner of these— usually taking a section of someone’s name and adding -tan to the end of it.
  • The Idealist: To a vast extent— her whole motivation for becoming an illusionist was to inspire hope in her audiences by showcasing the more magical aspects of life.
  • The Pollyanna: Notorious for being obsessively cheerful and sugary sweet.
  • Worth Living For: Truly believes that every life has value, and that everyone can find their reason to live somewhere.

Natacha Dechant

SHSL Animator

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/natacha.png

"If there’s an option to go through shit without killing someone again, I’ll take it."

Hand drawn? Papercut? Sand? Marionnettes? No animating technique is unknown to Natacha Dechant!

A young girl from Canada, she had interest in animation early in her life and was ready to tell any story she wanted through a good visual tool. Starting with small steps, it seems that the girl learned at a great pace the basis of animation, then started conceiving stories by herself mostly while usually using the hand drawn techniques but sometimes experimenting with other animation techniques at times. As more of her projects went online, it has gathered a following, who acclaimed the young girl for creative ways of telling the story without needing almost any voice. The name of the girl was then truly known to the general public when she was invited to an animation festival in Annecy, France, as it was quite a big event.

There, she was noticed in person and was invited to study at an animation school in Japan after the girl confirmed her identity, which surprised her. Still, Natacha sought to learn more in a different environment and willingly studied in another country, when one more surprise awaited her: the widely recognized Hope’s Peak Academy sent her a letter inviting her to their school after hearing more about the girl who had made quite some news. Even with one surprise after another, it didn’t matter to the girl, who was willing to learn more in new environments and was motivated to pursue her dream!

  • But Not Too Foreign: Quebec born, and learnt Japanese before coming over to Hope's Peak.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: After the chapter 3 trial, the fact that Isamu and Moriarty had gambled with all of their lives did it for her.
  • Friendless Background: Before coming to Hope's Peak, she was not exactly wealthy in the friend department.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Her inner thoughts when Isamu talks.
  • Team Mom: Has to continue to tell Ryuu not to do obviously dangerous things. It's a full time job.

Sayuri Sato

SHSL Gothic Metal Singer

quote pending

The “daughter” of the famous roboticist Kotaro Sato, Sayuri was in the spotlight from the moment she came into existence. She was the subject of many studies, but otherwise lived a normal life. While many expected her to follow her parents’ footsteps in the sciences, Sayuri surprised the public by pursuing music instead. Still, Kotaro and his wife Noriko both happily supported their daughter as she founded a band and began to break ground in the music industry. Eventually being picked up by a record company after winning several band competitions, Sayuri became notable in the metal scene with a voice organic humans could never hope to match.

Chapter 2 victim.

  • The Paragon: A kind, trusting robot who believes in everyone. Even when her number was called, she dismissed the majority of the concern.
  • Ridiculously Human Robot: Enough so that Ryuu didn't realize she was a robot until Nami informed him.

  • Conspicuous Gloves: Wears her gloves all of the time, even when the motive raised the temperature in the facility dangerously high. She has revealed that they hide a large amount of scar tissue.
  • Due to the Dead: Takes good care of all of the corpses they find, even if that's technically tampering with evidence and the crime scene. They've gotta look good!
  • Graceful Ladies Like Purple
  • The Reliable One: Many of the students view Saeru as this.

Nami Adachi

SHSL Psychologist

"There are no gods in a court of law.

When you hear the name Nami Adachi it is likely familar if you are interested in psychology in the slightest or keep up with current news as their name has been in the news recently about their recent psychological help they have been giving via their many surveys and research they havd been doing on young adults! Now attending the prestigious school of Hoped Peak Academy they truly think others are more deserving than themselves but are excited to be a part of the class of students!

Chapter 4 Victim.

  • It's All My Fault: Concerning the death of Sayuri. Tohru came directly to their room, and Nami blames her death on the fact that they let the two go off alone.
  • No Social Skills: For a psychologist, sometimes they say things that are a bit... Uh...
  • Only Sane Man: But, going along with being a Cloud Cuckoolander, it also sometimes seems like Nami is the only one with their shit together.

Chung Gyu-Hul

SHSL K-Pop Idol

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gyuhui.png

"Everything happens for a reason!... Right?"

First a supporting singer for the group Super Universe, Chung Gyu-hui (better known as simply Gyuhui) is the charismatically talented Ultimate K-Pop Idol! They debuted at the age of 16 and became wildly popular for their fantastic dance moves and flirty persona. Now 19 years old, Gyuhui’s solo career has rocketed up and away, and they're arguably the most well-known pop idol from South Korea!

  • Ambition Is Evil: One of Gyuhui's core beliefs is that those who would challenge fate for their own personal gain are evil, and usually end up hurting others on the way to the top. Even after they drop their fate-and-destiny spiel they seem to believe this, as seen in their reactions to Isamu's reasoning in Trial 3, Tohru murdering Sayuri to save her girlfriend, and Moriarty's behavior in general.
  • Alone Among the Couples: Gyuhui - along with Nami - when working together with Neo and Tsukasa, Ryuu (who has Sachiko) and Natacha (who has Theo.)
  • Book Dumb: In the Paranoia game, Gyuhui revealed that they had a lot of trouble in school, particularly with understanding what was going on, from a young age.
  • Cooldown Hug: Gives one of these to Ryuu, for both of their benefit.
  • Friendless Background: Lots of people they know, but not many "friends" before Hope's Peak.
  • Group Hug: Used to do these pretty often with Ryuu and Neo, their Room 8 roommates. It's less of a group hug when Neo moves out after a massive falling out.
  • Lonely at the Top: The more you talk to Gyuhui, the less it seems as though they actually had friends before getting locked in this murder game.... Which seems pretty ironic.
  • Perpetual Smiler: That good ol' Idol Smile. Although, they seem to usually put it on when they're trying to act like their feelings aren't hurt.
  • Resignations Not Accepted: Gyuhui can't break their contract with their management company, leaving them a perpetual Slave to PR, unable to be honest about their emotions even in non-professional atmostpheres.
  • School Is for Losers: Let's face it, Gyuhui would never finish their education if it was up to them. It's just in their contract.

Exec- Save Them demonstrates these examples of tropes:

  • A Student Body Divided
  • Amateur Sleuth: Downplayed in certain cases, played straight for the most part, averted in the case of Isamu the Private Investigator and Yuuna the Forensic Pathologist.
  • Anyone Can Die: Even being a roleplay, any of the characters can be a victim or culprit. The only hint comes from the calls that they get from an unknown source shortly after the motive, giving them the ID number of someone involved with the next case.
  • Anxiety Dreams: The 4th motive. Control fills the facility with a gas that, once they enter REM sleep, gives them nightmares of their greatest fears.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Nami brings up that Control likely acquired all of the books in the library illegally since a number of them are unpublished research papers. Add that to his list of crimes, along with kidnapping 20 students, forcing them to kill one another, making executions for those who take the bait and drugging them.
  • Big Brother Is Watching: What, you think no one is watching them murder each other?
    • And to crank it up a notch, the people watching are also able to transmit information regarding a student who may be involved in the next murder to some or all of the remaining students. The only problem is that the information may never be enough.
  • Black-and-Grey Morality: Arguably, the whole thing. In order to escape, you have to kill someone. If you vote for the culprit during the trial, you have a hand in their death. If you don't vote for the culprit, you're adding to the chances of someone innocent being killed. No one will escape this game without some guilt on their shoulders.
  • Body of the Week: Supposedly, every chapter results in at least one death that the remaining students have to investigate. However, this can be Averted if the students are able to foil the murder plot of the chapter in-character.
    • Demonstrated as early as the very first chapter, which goes by without a murder.
    • Makes its triumphant return in Chapter 5, and Inverted with Sayuri's resurrection, albeit as an AI without a physical body. No one's complaining though.
  • Boke and Tsukkomi Routine: Tohru attempts to tell Ryuu to tell a joke in the group messenger.
  • Breather Episode: Chapter 5. Not only does no murder occur thanks to Ulrich concocting a cure to their unfortunate not-rabies infection, Sayuri is brought Back from the Dead and one of the biggest rivalries in the game thus far (Yuuna and Neo) bury the hatchet between them. Considering this is the last chapter before the Mastermind chapter, it's very well-deserved.
  • Characters Dropping Like Flies
  • Clear My Name/Clear Their Name: Happens whenever somebody is accused of the crime and fights the charges, or when their friends do their best to help them. Of course, the question of whether or not they're actually guilty is very real...
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: The executions, which are tailor-made for each culprit. Usually, they either mock their Super High School Level talent or exploit their deepest fears, ensuring their punishment is as terrifying as possible. Occasionally, a murder victim also dies in a particularly horrible manner.
    • Fate Worse than Death: A possible punishment for an innocent party in the event of a mistrial, if it's not outright death.
  • Dark Secret: The second motive, with a twist; all of the characters were given a file with another students name on it. They could unzip it and see whose they have, and then choose whether or not to watch it. The catch? Half of them are lies made up by Control. What's to stop anyone from saying something that's true is a lie?
    • Plus, a number of the secrets that came out were definitely dark in nature. Some career ruining. Some just very, very sad.
  • Developing Doomed Characters: That's some to most of the characters. Good luck figuring out which ones they are before they die. They consist of:
    • Shigemi Kiyono, SHSL School Band Member, Chapter 2 Victim
    • Sayuri Sato, SHSL Gothic Metal Singer, Chapter 2 Victim. Subverted, Sayuri turns up alive again in Chapter 5 after Nami is able to save her as a backup copy and upload it.
    • Aiko Starlight a.k.a Noriko Hanada, SHSL Magical Girl, Chapter 2 Killer
    • Moriarty, a.k.a Yuuya Isara, SHSL Good Luck, Chapter 3 Victim.
    • Isamu Ueda, SHSL Private Investigator, Chapter 3 Killer.
    • Ryuunosuke Sakakibara, SHSL Acrobat, Chapter 4 Victim/Culprit.
    • Nami Adachi, SHSL Psychologist, Chapter 4 Victim/Culprit.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: Ryuu and Nami's bodies are found, with Nami embracing him...
  • Dwindling Party: The game began with 20 students, and while they avoided a murder during the first chapter, people have steadily begun to die as the chapters go on.
  • Dysfunction Junction: With twenty different characters, it's to be expected that something like this would happen. To what extent depends on the character in question...and the person playing them.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: But who knows how much the students will have to sacrifice to achieve it?
  • Empty Chair Memorial: In the trial room, all students have a caged podium they must stand in. When a student dies, that podium remains, empty, as a reminder.
  • Emotional Torque
  • Everyone Is a Suspect: The objective of each trial is to find out who is the most suspicious. Extends to before each individual murder, when the students must attempt to figure out who the possible complicit person might be.
  • Everyone Went to School Together: Unlike the source material, these students remember their times together at Hope's Peak. The difference is that many of them were not in the same class and only a handful had spoken sparingly before.
  • Evidence Scavenger Hunt: Once a body is discovered, the surviving students, culprit included, are expected to investigate for evidence to prepare for the class trial where they will attempt to find the person behind the crime.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Often, relationships (both platonic and possibly romantic) are formed due to the stress everyone is put under and the bonds created thusly.
  • Gilded Cage: While they are trapped in the facility, they have no shortage of food, classrooms full of objects to learn with, instruments, board games, a library, and apartments they share. Were they not being forced to kill one another, it'd be a nice place to board.
  • Heroic BSoD: After the Chapter 4 death, Natacha, Gyuhui, and Isabella have one of these upon seeing Ryuu and Nami are dead.
  • Hidden Depths: There are more to every character than meets the eye - it's just that some of them are rather open to telling others their backstories or feelings, and others keep it under such a careful lock and key that no one has unearthed it, despite it being 5 chapters into the game.
  • Hope Spot: They all got this when, after Gyuhui's number was called, the consequential guarding from their roommates prevented a murder. Hey, we can really do this! We can avoid anyone dying! It's possible, we just have to work together! And they have failed to protect anyone ever since, until Chapter 5 finally grants them that reprieve.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: A few of them tend to gloss over the more concerning traits their classmates possess.
    • Example: Those who totally brush over Yuuna's casual confession that she has murdered someone before the game. Ryuu is very guilty of this, at least when it comes to Yuuna.
  • Humans Are Flawed
  • Involuntary Battle to the Death
  • Kangaroo Court: Only two characters have any sort of background that might give them a step up in a court setting. They are the chapter 3 culprit, Isamu, and Yuuna.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Considering its premise and the fact that it's a roleplay, the characters are not above poking fun at the supposed absurdity of their circumstances.
  • Loophole Abuse: Done by Control, after the chapter 3 trial. He reveals that, had they let Isamu get away with it and executed someone innocent at random, Control would have granted Isamu's wish of freedom by killing them all.
  • Mystery of the Week: There's a new murder every two-three weeks in real life, and every half a week or so in-game. It can, however be prevented, as in the case with the very first chapter.
  • Pink Blood
  • Poor Communication Kills: Chapter 3 gives a big case of this; Isamu and Moriarty make their plan to have the former kill the latter and convince the remaining students to execute another student at random. A few students state that the plan may have worked, or they could have been convinced not to do it, have the two of them discussed it with even a small group.
    • This can also go with any trial; if someone throws them off with something that isn't as important as they think it is, the time limit will reach its end, and someone innocent may die.
  • Public Execution: If a killer is caught, they are dragged away to a cruel execution that usually causes them a lot of emotional and physical suffering before they are finally killed.
  • Red Herring: Par for the course in a murder mystery. There's usually one or two big ones every case.
  • Sadistic Choice: Kill one of your classmates, or spend the rest of your life in captivity — and when it comes down to the trial, fess up and receive a gruesome punishment, or escape with the blood of everyone else on your hands.
  • Shout-Out: May contain references to popular culture, internet phenomena and call-backs to previous games the muns and their muses have been in.
  • Surprisingly Creepy Moment: Some of the students are creepy, and that isn't shocking; they're meant to be. It's the few times the nice ones bring out those eerie sprites or out of character dialogue that is particularly jarring.
  • Teen Genius: All the students to some extent. They were initially accepted into Hope's Peak for being the best in their age bracket at what they do.
  • Tonight, Someone Dies: Specifically, every couple of weeks, someone will be murdered. Subverted in the fact that each murder can be prevented through a series of specific conditions.
  • Translation Convention: All characters are presumed to be speaking Japanese unless otherwise noted, even though the game is written in English.
  • Win Your Freedom: Students are informed that escape is possible; they just have to get away with murder.
