     A01: Tachikawa Squad
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a01_9.png
Squad Formation History:
[1st Gen.] Kei Tachikawa, Kōhei Izumi, Kyōsuke Karasuma (Tamakoma-1), and Yuu Kunichika.

An A-Rank squad led by Kei Tachikawa. It is ranked #1 amongst all A-Rank squads in Border.

Kei Tachikawa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a01_02_1.png

A-Class, Attacker
Years in Border Service: 4 years (New Border 1st Gen.)
Age: 20
Solo Ranking: Attacker 1st Place
Primary Mentors: Ren Tsukimi (A07, Strategy), Masafumi Shinoda (Border Founder, Sword Mastery)
Border Faction: Kido (Shinoda oriented)
Voiced by: Daisuke Namikawa

Trigger Equipments
Main: Kogetsu | Senkū (Kogetsu extension) | Shield | Grasshopper
Sub: Kogetsu | Senkū (Kogetsu extension) | Shield | Bagworm

The Captain of the Tachikawa Squad, and was part of the Expedition Force. Has a long-standing rivalry with Jin.
  • The Ace: Number one Attacker from Border, not counting Amo, Shinoda, Jin and Konami who are outside the normal ranking.
  • Bash Brothers: With Kazama in the Black Trigger Retrieval arc. Considering how long they've fought alongside each other, their teamwork is impeccable; although Jin wins, he acknowledges that he could see them taking down a (different) Black Trigger together.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Twice during the Second Invasion. He saves Murakami from some rabbits and also saves the entire Border building from a Neighbor kamikaze attack.
  • Blood Knight: Really interested in defeating new opponents, even Black Trigger users.
  • Book Dumb: When it comes to anything outside of combat, his intelligence is... uh. Yeah. His grades aren't as bad as Yoneya's, at least, but that's not saying much.
  • Brutal Honesty: At times, for example when saying that passion can not beat skill and strategy during the Nasu/Suzanari/Tamakoma battle.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Tachikawa is proof you can be a Book Dumb, Cloudcuckoolander Manchild and yet still be The Ace at the same time.
  • Butt-Monkey: Outside of combat, he's somewhat prone to being made fun of. All of his predictions as a Combat Commentator end up wrong, Miwa ignores him while addressing Jin, Oji singles him out as a frequent Expedition Force member who'd ironically fail the current exam to join said team while several A-Rank judges immediately agree, etc.
  • Childhood Friends: With Ren Tsukimi according to the manual.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Seems to be a little in discord with reality, and extra material cites many things he believes or does that imply he acts like a middle schooler most of times.
  • Combat Commentator: During the B-Rank Wars, along with Jin. Ninomiya wasn't very happy about his opinions, judging them as half-assed.
  • Compassionate Critic: When he essentially blames Suzunari-1's loss in the match against Nasu Squad and Tamakoma-2 on Ko losing to Yuma. While it was harsh, Kuruma believes that it just shows how highly Tachikawa thinks of Ko's potential.
  • Dual Wielding: Tachikawa’s combat style is to wield two Kogetsus to clean the field fast.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: His eyes look... off. They resemble a fly eyes.
  • Fanboy: Of Azuma's combat commentary. While Azuma's famed for it, Tachikawa's the one person who, if he can't hear it in person, will go as far as to break into Sakurako's room just to listen to the recordings!
  • Friendly Rivalry: With Jin. They actually get along pretty well. He's also implied to have this with Konami, as side material notes them to be good friends and claim themselves to be superior over the other, hence why they don't use honorifics with each other.
  • Genius Ditz: One of the best fighters in Border and a capable strategist... and an airhead who's rather lacking in pretty much anything outside of combat.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be:
    • Gets chopped in half by Konami, along with their enemy. It was all part of his plan.
    • Amusingly, it's not the first time he's been involved in this kind of plan: in a previous fight against Jin, though Jin stopped them, Tachikawa was going to cut Kazama in half in a very similar manner to what happens to him down the line.
  • Manchild: Quite similar to Jin, anxious as a kid to fight a strong and opponent and doesn't seem to take anything seriously. A character description even jokes about him wearing a black coat and two swords while being over 20 years.
  • Master Swordsman: Superior even to Jin in pure swordsmanship.
  • Nominal Hero: Not a bad person by any means, but he tends to be invested only in what's enjoyable for him. Even during the invasion, he's as carefree as ever, caring primarily about getting a good fight and getting back to his lunch.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: For all his (friendly) rivalry with Jin, Miwa notes both of them are very similar.
  • Perma-Stubble: Always sports a slight stubble. Lampshaded by Gatlin who nicknames him "Little Beard".
  • The Power of Love: Averted. He explicitly says that if feelings were involved in a fight, he wouldn't be the number one.
  • The Rival: A longstanding one to Jin at least till the latter received a Black Trigger and reached S-Rank.
  • Screw Destiny: Considers manipulating Jin's prophecies to have a different outcome this, even if the prophecy itself does happen.
  • Shirtless Scene: As seen here
  • The Slacker: Taking just enough classes to stay on school. It's implied that if it doesn't involve fighting, he is not interested.

Kōhei Izumi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a02_4.png
A-Class, Shooter
Years in Border Service: 3 years (New Border 2nd Gen.)
Age: 17
Solo Ranking: Shooter 2nd Place
Secondary Disciples: Masataka Ninomiya (B001, Weapon Mastery), Osamu Mikumo (Tamakoma-2)
Cross Unit Friendships: Kyōsuke Karasuma (Tamakoma-1, former teammate), “A-Rank 3 Idiots” with Shun Midorikawa (A04) & Yōsuke Yoneya (A07).
Border Faction: Kido (Neutral oriented)
Voiced by: Kaito Ishikawa

Trigger Equipments

The Shooter of the Tachikawa Squad, and the developer of Border's composite bullets. Seems to have little qualms about causing large collateral damage with his Triggers.
  • Ability Mixing: Izumi was the combat genius responsible in the discovery of composite bullets by mixing standard Border Trion bullets.
  • Accidental Discovery: Izumi discovered composite bullets by trying it out on a whim. Which was why he's nicknamed "The Bullet Fool."
  • The Ace: Among Shooters, alongside Ninomiya. Ninomiya is ranked No. 1 and implied to be stronger in a one-on-one match (between the two, Izumi is more support-oriented), but Izumi is the genius who discovered composite bullets and whom Ninomiya went to for pointers, rather than the other way around.
  • Birds of a Feather:
    • If wearing a Badass Longcoat in modern day Earth is a sign of Tachikawa being a Manchild, it probably says something about Izumi that he is A-OK with this uniform.
    • He gets along great with Yoneya (in their own fashion)—and, to a lesser extent, Midorikawa—thanks to both of them being rambunctious and somewhat ruthless but generally well-meaning teenage boys.
  • Combat Commentator: During the Mikumo vs. Katori vs. Kakizaki fight.
  • Destructive Saviour: Very prone to destroying buildings and streets during battles.
  • Fun T-Shirt: Seen wearing one with the inscription "1000 Shots 100 Hits", which pretty much describes his combat modus operandi. Apparently, Border made it specifically for him.
  • In-Universe Nickname: "Bullet Fool", courtesy of Yoneya.
  • The Nicknamer: Calls Yoneya "Spear Geek", and during the Large-Scale Invasion, calls Hairein "Exciting Animal Bastard" note ("Mr. Discovery Channel" in the Viz translation) from his animal-shaped bullet Triggers.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Always cracking a smile, even while facing enemies.
  • Shirtless Scene: Only in this artwork though as of now
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Croquettes and fried shrimp.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Seems to be this to Yoneya of the Miwa Unit, who he "affectionately" calls "Spear Geek".
  • Worthy Opponent: Hairein acknowledges him as one.

Takeru Yuiga

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a01_03_4.png
A-Class, Gunner
Years in Border Service: 1 year (New Border 4th Gen.)
Age: 16
Voiced by: Tetsuya Kakihara

Trigger Equipments
Main: Asteroid: Pistol Ver. | Chameleon | Shield |—|
Sub: Asteroid: Pistol Ver. |—| Shield | Bagworm

The Gunner of the Tachikawa Squad.
  • Butt-Monkey:
    • Enlisted in Border’s number one squad with no A-Rank qualification. Add Yuiga’s Small Name, Big Ego attitude towards all lower-rank agents earns him the disrespect and “discipline” from Izumi on a daily basis.
    • Izumi affirmed to Osamu in stating Yuiga is practically a piece of B-Rank level trash, but has at least more combat power output than Osamu. Therefore, Izumi gave Osamu the assignment of grabbing 100 solo wins from Yuiga as a start to Shooter improvements.
  • Foil: Of Tachikawa Squad’s former teammate, Karasuma, now in Tamakoma-1—an attractive, talented, socially popular young man from a low-income family.
  • The Ghost: Mentioned quite early, but not seen till chapter 109.
  • The Load: Overall cowardly in combat performance, and knows nothing but the average gun-and-bullets; to which the seasoned squad members finds Yuiga completely useless.
  • Nepotism: Only got into the strongest A-Rank squad because his parents are among Border's wealthiest supporters.
  • Rich Kids: The primary reason for his position.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Values highly of himself for being in the number one A-Rank squad and rude towards low-ranking agents, but holds zero qualified skill for an A-Rank agent; which his teammates are happy to point out.
  • Tsundere: According to Izumi, Yuiga’s verbal abuse towards Osamu is his way of asking Osamu to train with him longer.
  • Unknown Rival: For Karasuma, whom he hates.

Yuu Kunichika

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a01_04_3.png
A-Class, Operator
Years in Border Service: 3 years (New Border 2nd Gen.)
Age: 17
Voiced by: Umeka Shoji

The Operator of the Tachikawa Squad. Has an impressive collection of video game consoles in her room.

  • Book Dumb: Her grades aren't stellar. Lampshaded when she's a Combat Commentator alongside Toma and Zoe, and collectively refers to them as the 18-year-olds with bad grades (which Zoe takes offence to—he's not as bad as those two!).
  • Combat Commentator: For the Mikumo vs. Ikoma vs. Ouji match.
  • Gamer Chick: Seen playing games with Izumi.
  • Messy Hair: She has really messy hair.

     A02: Fuyushima Squad
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a02_7.png
An A-Rank squad led by Fuyushima. It is ranked #2 amongst all A-Rank squads in Border.
  • Power Trio: One of the very few three-person teams in Border.

Shinji Fuyushima

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shinji_fuyushima.png
A-Class, Trapper
Years in Border Service: 4 years (New Border 1st Gen.)
Age: 29
Voiced by: Ryōtarō Okiayu

Trigger Equipments
Main: Switch Box | Chameleon | Shield |—|
Sub: Bagworm Tag |—|—|—|

The Captain of the Fuyushima Squad.
  • Cannot Talk to Women: Apparently struggles with women, both in dealing with them and in his lack of popularity with them.
  • The Ghost: Mentioned, but not seen until Chapter 73.
  • Perma-Stubble: On his chin.
  • Teleporter's Visualization Clause: Can teleport allies to predefined spots from afar.
  • Trap Master: He is a "Trapper", a yet-to-be revealed Border position in story. As of current, the only known ability he's shown is his ability to swiftly teleport allies to specific locations.

Isami Tōma

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/isami_tma.png
A-Class, Sniper
Years in Border Service: 2 years (New Border 3rd Gen.)
Age: 18
Solo Ranking: Sniper 1st Place
Primary Mentor: Haruaki Azuma (B006) [Sniper Joint Training]
Primary Disciples: Yuzuru Ema (B003, Unacknowledged by Ema), Izuho Natsume (C-Rank) [Sniper Joint Training]
Voiced by: Mitsuo Iwata

Trigger Equipments
Main: Egret | Shield |—|—|
Sub: Bagworm | Shield |—|—|

A sniper of the Fuyushima Squad. Was part of the expedition force, and participated in the Black Trigger retrieval mission.
  • Book Dumb: His grades are even worse than Tachikawa's (though still better than Yoneya's); Zoe wonders if he even knows what "inverse proportions" means when it's brought up. With that said, if his analysis of Chika is any indication, he can read people fairly well.
  • Combat Aestheticist: Dislikes giving cover fire and cares for landing perfect shots to not sully his pride. Also shot a smiley face on the target instead of just shooting bullseyes during sniper training.
  • Combat Commentator: For the Mikumo vs. Ikoma vs. Ouji match.
  • Friendly Enemy: Even though it's obvious that Jin is there to stop them, Toma has no qualms about amiably chatting with him before Kazama reminds him to focus.
  • Friendly Sniper: Arrogant, yes, but also respectful towards skilled enemies and cheerful overall.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: On practice, manages to land head shots from several hundred meters away of his moving targets.
  • Mentor Archetype: Declares to be one for Yuzuru Ema, through the boy disagrees. On the other hand, he gives the mentor-less Izuho some pointers.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: During the Black Trigger Retrieval Arc.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Gives a short and not completely antagonistic one to Narasaka, explaining him how shooting even while knowing he will fail is what stops him from becoming a better sniper.
  • Slept Through the Apocalypse: Taking a nap when the second invasion begins, and only wakes up to snipe during crucial times.
  • Smug Super: Very confident on his abilities, but also very good at what he does.
  • Technician Versus Performer: He runs on intuition and snipes a smiley face instead of getting bulls-eyes, unlike the intellectual, serious, but inconspicuous Narasaka.

Risa Maki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a02_03_0.png
A-Class, Operator
Age: 17
Voiced by: ???

  • Insufferable Genius: An intelligent and competent operator who is also known for her condescending attitude towards just about all Border agents, which makes Maki one of the most unpopular persons agents surveyed as "do not want to bring on expedition."

     A03: Kazama Squad
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a03_00.png

An A-Rank squad led by Sōya Kazama who specialize in stealth and melee combat.

  • Combat Parkour: While they don't use Grasshopper to maximize this, the entire squad boost their high mobility stats by equipping the same gear and executing uniform actions.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Their specialty, essentially. By their use of Chameleon, and the Super-Hearing of Kikuchihara, they are very good at sneak attacks.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: During the Black Trigger Retrieval Arc.
  • Stealth Expert: How the Kazama Squad brand themselves in Border; because of their strength in stealth, they are the go-to squad for the confidential and sensitive missions.

Sōya Kazama

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a03_01_06.png
A-Class, Attacker
Years in Border Service: 4 years (New Border 1st Gen.)
Age: 21
Solo Ranking: Attacker 2nd Place

Trigger Equipments
Main: Scorpion |—| Shield |—|

The Captain of the Kazama Squad, and was part of the Expedition Force.
  • Bash Brothers: Outside of his squad, he works well with Tachikawa, whom he's likely used to fighting alongside after all these years/expeditions. Jin remarks that the two of them could probably take down a Black Trigger together.
  • Brutal Honesty: Very straightforward in his assessments, and effectively so. If Kazama gives you advice, it's in your best interest to follow it.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: Second-worst tolerance in Border among those who drink, likely due to his small stature.
  • The Comically Serious: In Omakes.
  • Combat Commentator: During the Ninomiya vs. Kageura vs. Azuma vs. Mikumo fight.
  • Compassionate Critic: He knows what he's talking about, and while his remarks can be cold, they're fair and sincerely meant for others' benefit. Part of Osamu's Character Development can be directly attributed to Kazama's influence on him.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Subverted. He's known for his stealth, but as Karasuma notes, he's strong even without it. In fact, because it eats up trion quickly, it actually can't be used as his primary tactic in anything but a decisive stroke—his Curb-Stomp Battle against Osamu being an exception, due to how the simulation works.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Gives a long one to Osamu, due to wanting to test his skills.
  • Establishing Character Moment: His fight with Osamu and the aftermath. Aside from cementing him as a badass through the Curb-Stomp Battle, it has him give a list of the various ways in which he thinks Osamu is mediocre... but ends with him admitting that Osamu's Weak, but Skilled and that's not such a bad thing, showing that Kazama's strict but fair.
  • Fragile Speedster: Very fast, invisible and good reflexes, but it doesn't take very much to take him down. Catching him, however, is another thing.
  • Graceful Loser: He doesn't at all mind his tie with Mikumo and considers it well-deserved (both on Mikumo's end for out-maneuvering him and on his end for his mistake in trying to counter rather than defend). It's even one of the few times he's seen smiling!
  • Mentor Archetype: Of a sort. He doesn't directly teach Utagawa or Kikuchihara—the latter officially stated to be mentor-less—but Kazama has been their captain essentially right from their entry into B-Rank, and Smash Borders confirms that Utagawa tries to mimic the way Kazama fights; Kikuchihara likely does the same. In response, Kazama says they shouldn't aim to be like him, but better.
  • Not So Above It All: According to a Q&A in which someone specifically asked for Kazama's not-so-cool moments, examples included him fighting a postbox after Suwa got him drunk and him trying to ride Raijinmaru when he thought no one was looking (only to be caught on security camera).
  • Older Than They Look: He tends to be mistaken as around middle school age, if not younger. In the Q&A, it's revealed that it took him years to realize that he was being charged a child's fare on the city bus. note
  • Only Sane Man: Among him, Tachikawa, and Jin. He's rather unimpressed when, after Jin gives up Fujin, Jin and Tachikawa then immediately focus on how that means Jin can participate in ranked matches again.
  • Pet the Dog: He didn't entirely need it by that point, but despite his ruthlessly stoic attitude, it's mentioned that he was one of Osamu's visitors while Osamu was unconscious in the hospital.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Known for his petite stature, and holding solo 2nd place in Border’s Attacker position.
  • Rank Up: Subverted of his own volition. He's the top candidate to inherit Fujin after Jin gives it up, which would allow him to become S-Rank, but for undisclosed reasons, he refuses.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Subverted on multiple counts.
    • He makes a point of stating that unlike Miwa, he doesn't fight Neighbors for revenge, despite also having lost a sibling to them.
    • During the second invasion, he dissuades Kikuchihara and Utagawa from enacting this on Enedra on his behalf, knowing that they're outmatched.
  • The Spock: Runs almost purely on logic and reasoning rather than sentimentality, contributing to what makes him such an effective leader.
  • The Stoic: Has a calm demeanor and rarely lets his emotions openly show.
  • The Strategist: One of Border's best tacticians. Even after bailing out in the large-scale invasion, he remains active, playing this role in the continued fight against Enedra.

Shirō Kikuchihara

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a03_02_0.png
A-Class, Attacker
Years in Border Service: 2 years (New Border 3rd Gen.)
Age: 16
Trion Side-Effect: Super-Hearing
Expedition Selection Exam Shuffle Team: [04] Kitazoe

Trigger Equipments
Main: Scorpion |—| Shield |—|

Kazama Squad's Attacker with the side effect of "Super-Hearing".
  • All the Other Reindeer: To a degree, as all other agents were commenting on his back about his lame ability until Kazama took him in.
  • Brutal Honesty:
    • Very blunt about his opinions, especially to Osamu; citing that Osamu's team is still too dependent on Yuma. He actually seems surprised that Osamu doesn't get defensive, instead taking his words seriously.
    • Smash Borders implies this to generally be the case in a conversation with Utagawa, who chides Kikuchihara only for the way he phrases things but doesn't seem to disagree when Kikuchihara points out that he (Kikuchihara) tends to be right.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Emphasis on the deadpan part.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Always seem with a stern look on his face, even when enraged.
  • A Friend in Need: For a Deadpan Snarker who only listed dislikes in his profile, Word of God confirmed the only “likes” in Kikuchihara’s book are "friends."
  • Odd Friendship: Building one with Osamu of all people. He goes out of his way to talk one-on-one with Osamu (something he is stated to never do with people) and even congratulates him on a win over text.
  • Off with His Head!: Courtesy of Jin.
  • Revenge Before Reason: He and Utagawa don't take it kindly when Enedra not only defeats Kazama but insults him for good measure. If Kazama hadn't talked them out of it, they'd have fought Enedra for it—to their detriment.
  • The Snark Knight: Due to Kikuchihara's ability of Super-Hearing, he's usually distanced from people in distaste of false appearences, and gossips. So if he needs to interact with people, Kikuchihara comes off as snarky and not very nice with people.
  • Super-Hearing: His Side Effect gives him enhanced hearing, which he can share with his squad through Trion technology; allowing for him and his unit to be impervious to any kind of surprise attacks. The down side from hearing enhancement share is that Kikuchihara needs to be ultra focused while his teammates also needs to make sure he is safe and undisturbed while he's picking up sounds.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Does this to Jin, and in exchange gets his head cut off.
  • Undying Loyalty: While Kikuchihara's as rude to Kazama as he is to anyone else, there are various signs that he's still fiercely loyal: he's practically appalled on Kazama's behalf that Kazama tied with Mikumo, he doesn't take it well when Enedra insults him, he warns Mikumo that he'd better not disappoint Kazama (who's to be the Combat Commentator for his next match)...
  • What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway?: How he and many fellow agents felt about his Side Effect until Kazama stepped into his life.

Ryō Utagawa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a03_03_03.png
A-Class, All-Rounder
Years in Border Service: 2 years (New Border 3rd Gen.)
Age: 16
Expedition Selection Exam Shuffle Team: [01] Utagawa (Captain)
Border Faction: Shinoda (Kido oriented)
Voiced by: Hiroaki Miura

Trigger Equipments

An All-Rounder of the Kazama Squad.
  • The Generic Guy: The author admits Utagawa doesn't stand out much when he’s in his squad, but he gets much better later with more focus for being appointed as a captain for the Expedition Selection Exam; as Border HQ took note to examine Utagawa's overall competence, and leadership aspects closer.
  • The Heart: Aligned as a Shinoda faction agent, Utagawa is an all-loving guy who is shown to shower his faith in those who he regards as friends, as well as towards his teammates.
  • Nice Guy: Utagawa is noted to have a gentle-mannered personality and is the one who patches up relationships after Kikuchihara's snark talks with people.

Kaho Mikami

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a03_04.png
A-Class, Operator
Years in Border Service: 3 years (New Border 2nd Gen.)
Age: 16
Border Faction: Shinoda (Kido oriented)

The operator of the Kazama Squad.

  • Combat Commentator: For the Mikumo vs. Nasu vs. Kuruma match.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: Her profile notes that she's very popular among the other (all female) operators and that several of them are in love with her (which was probably an exaggeration as a joke, as the profiles tend to be, but...).
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: As a Combat Commentator, where she asks questions she knows the answer to for the sake of analysis. Jin knows she's doing this; Tachikawa doesn't and has to be told.
  • Team Mom: Her profile refers to her as one for her siblings, and to an extent, she seems to play this role for her squad as well.

     A04: Kusakabe Squad
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a04_6.png
An A-Rank unit led by Saki Kusakabe. It is ranked #4 amongst all A-Rank units in Border.

Saki Kusakabe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a04_01_9.png
A-Class, Operator
Age: 15
Voiced by: ???

The Captain of the Kusakabe Squad, and ties with Tamakoma-2’s Osamu Mikumo as the youngest squad captain of Border. Kusakabe is also the sole official captain who is of an Operator position.

  • The Ghost: Mentioned, but not seen until chapter 205.

Shun Midorikawa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a04_02_01.png
A-Class, Attacker
Years in Border Service: 1 year (New Border 4th Gen.)
Age: 14
Education: Mikado City P.S.4 Junior High
Cross Unit Friendships: Yūma Kuga (Tamakoma-2), “A-Rank 3 Idiots” with Kōhei Izumi (A01) & Yōsuke Yoneya (A07).
Border Faction: Shinoda (Tamakoma oriented)
Voiced by: Yukiko Morishita

Trigger Equipments
Main: Scorpion | Grasshopper | Shield |—|

A young prodigy of Border who held the record in the enlistment test (until Yūma broke it at least).
  • Ascended Extra: In the anime (Episode 5), his cameo is extended, and he directly talks to Jin, even being called by his name.
  • Attention Whore: Tries everything to get the attention of the older A-Rank agents and to build up a strong reputation as an A-Rank rookie; especially to his idol, Jin.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Likes to wear a mask of friendly curiosity to hide selfish motives.
  • Character Development: Learns a lesson in humility from being beaten by Yuma and profits from it with his performance in The Second Large-Scale Neighbor Invasion.
  • Child Prodigy: Reached A-Rank at a very young age and even broke Kitora's record at the entrance-test.
  • Combat Commentator: During the Mikumo vs. Suwa vs. Arafune match.
  • Combat Parkour: Pretty much the expert of this in Border.
  • Cool Shades: Wears a pair in what's almost definitely him copying Jin.
  • Curbstomp Battle: Gives one to Osamu to humiliate him, and in turn gets one from Yuma.
  • Custom Uniform: Unlike most characters, he consistently wears two distinct uniforms: his squad uniform when he's officially on duty, and a separate uniform when he's off-duty that appears to be him mimicking Jin's.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: After his humiliating defeat in the hands of Yūma, they became friendly rivals.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Has a brief appearance in Chapter 10, greeting Jin in Border's base.
  • Fanboy: Of Jin. To the point of holding immense jealousy towards the Red Shirt Osamu for becoming a Tamakoma agent with his idol’s solid backing.
  • Following in Their Rescuer's Footsteps: Midorikawa joined Border to follow Jin, who was the Border agent to rescue him from Neighbors.
  • Fragile Speedster: Uses the same Trigger equipments as Yūma Kuga, Midorikawa’s combat style is fast and versatile, but cannot take in damages.
  • Friendly Rivalry: With Yuma, to the point they even exchange combat advice.
  • Graceful Loser: For all of his cockiness, he takes it well when he realizes he's losing hard—Yuma even points out that he might do better if he uses other Trigger weapons, but Midorikawa would rather continue using Scorpion to better see their differences in skill, earning him Yuma's respect in the process. Afterwards, when Yuma (with some degree of insincerity) apologizes for humiliating him, Midorikawa easily admits he deserved it.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Midorikawa’s initial resentment of Osamu mainly comes from Jin, Midorikawa's idol, personally scouted Osamu into The Tamakoma Branch to be Jin’s direct junior.
  • Keet: Though with a large streak of jerk.
  • The Nicknamer: Calling Yūma "Midget-senpai", Yoneya "Yoneyan", and Izumi "Izumin"; and obviously, calling Jin "Jin-san".
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Just like Yuma, he is very proficient in fighting even while being quite small.
  • Skilled, but Naive: His Fatal Flaw in his first 10-rounded solo practice match with Yūma. As Yoneya notes, Midorikawa is a good fighter, yet he's still a newbie, and prioritized his combat style with forceful attacks, and showmanship to impress others rather than pragmatically ending the battle. Which led to his humiliated defeat with the then “C-Rank” Yūma.
  • Technician vs. Performer: The Performer to Yuma's Technician in their first fight, to Midorikawa's detriment. See Skilled, but Naive.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: After getting trounced by Yuma. Lampshaded in his profile, which mentions that he started off as a rare "jerk character" in the world of World Trigger but looped back to being a decent kid.

  • Fanboy: Is one for Yuba and Ninomiya. Konami describes Satomi as a "Ninomiya zealot", and he even calls himself that in his conversation with Osamu. Satomi describes both Yuba and Ninomiya as "the absolute strongest, one-on-one!"
Satomi: "Wanna hear more? Just let me know! I could go on about this forever!"
  • Genius Ditz: A loyal fanboy of 1st place Shooter Ninomiya, and his mentor—(the originally 1st Placed) Gunner Yuba, who had the genius in combining the combat styles of his two idols and beat his mentor in solo competition without knowing anything about solo rankings.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": Why it's a twist in revealing Satomi as the No. 1 Gunner? Because he can spend entire conversations gushing over others.

     A05: Arashiyama Squad
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a05_00_0.png
Squad Formation History:
[1st Gen.] Jun Arashiyama, Kuniharu Kakizaki (B013), Mitsuru Tokieda, Ken Satori, Haruka Ayatsuji.
Secondary Disciples: Osamu Mikumo (Tamakoma-2)
Border Faction: Shinoda

An A-Rank unit led by Jun Arashiyama.

The squad acts as "The Face of Border" by representing all Border agents in public media; which includes handling news interviews, acting, and modeling for public promotion materials. The squad also serves as the examiners for Border agent enlistment exams, C-Rank Battles, and C-Rank promotion to B-Rank exams.

  • The Ace: Ranked #5 in A-Rank, do public relations work, and maintain good grades in school; with Arashiyama, Ayatsuji, and Kitora being acknowledged for their academic excellence.
  • Badass Crew: Every team is this, but it's their squad's outright theme, as their emblem shows: five stars coming together to make a greater star.
  • The Face: The squad tasked in representing Border agents, with Captain Arashiyama and Kitora holding the most fans in public.
  • Honorary True Companion: To The Tamakoma Branch. They came to their aid during the Black Trigger Retrieval Arc, and is one of Border’s most influential defenders of the Tamakoma faction. The squad also acts as Osamu’s own secondary mentors as a whole group by the referral of Karasuma.
  • Ideal Hero: The closest to it. For the rest of Border, the inevitable outcome of recruiting (largely teenage) civilians is that they're good people but treat it more like a video game come to life, or are a tad too ruthless, but Arashiyama Squad gives off the feeling of civil servants truly dedicated to the people.
  • Red Is Heroic: The most well-known and idealistic squad in Border with a distinct red uniform.
  • Shipper on Deck: In the anime, Arashiyama and Tokieda tease Kitora about having a possible crush on Osamu. Ayatsuji is the one character to tease her in the manga too.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Certain wannabe experts (like the 3 idiot rookies) think of the unit as a mere mascot team without any actual skill. Of course they are dead-wrong.

The Captain of the Arashiyama Squad.
  • Academic Athlete: Extremely good grades and athletic outside of a trion body as well.
  • Always Someone Better: He doesn't realize it, but Kakizaki sees him as this.
  • Annoying Younger Siblings: Inverted. It's his own little brother and sister the ones who are embarrassed with him.
  • Big Brother Instinct: One of the main reasons why he supports Osamu in the beginning is out of gratitude for the boy saving his brother and sister.
  • Chick Magnet: He's noted to be popular with girls.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: One of the most conventionally heroic members of Border, and dog person as befitting his straightforward, loyal image.
  • Heroic Build: Is noticeable fit on the anime filler.
  • Identical Stranger: Jun’s name, appearance, down to his hairstyle are remarkably similar to Tamakoma’s Jin; bonus with them being the same age. Lampshaded in a sketch by author Ashihara, where Tokieda in the background wonders if they're truly twins.
  • Nice Guy: Always polite and positive.
  • Pretty Boy: Described as a handsome guy.
  • Sadistic Choice: Subverted. Years ago, he was asked in a press conference whom he'd save: family or the people. Without hesitation, he answered with his family. When the reporter unsurprisingly criticized him, he replied that once he knew they were safe and didn't have to worry, he could then give it his all to protect the people. Little wonder that down the line, he was made The Face of Border.
  • Shirtless Scene: In Season 1 Episode 56.

An All-Rounder of the Arashiyama Squad.

She is considered to be one of the biggest prodigies Border ever had, reaching A-Rank at a very young level.

  • Academic Athlete: Like Arashiyama (Kitora has somewhat better grades, Arashiyama is somewhat more athletic).
  • Action Girl: One of the few female A-Rank agents and a match for almost all of her male colleagues.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Not unusual for this series, though Kitora seems to be especially prone to losing legs in combat, sometimes even cutting it off herself.
  • Armed Legs: Had to use her Scorpion as a replacement leg in one battle and has seemingly taken a liking to it.
  • Awesome by Analysis: Although she's famous mainly for being highly skilled, like Osamu, she's capable of overcoming her weakness with strategy.
  • Big Ego, Hidden Depths: She's arrogant, yes, but as hard on herself as she is on others. When Yuma tries to compliment her for taking down the Ilgar (that he secretly defeated), he's surprised when she refuses to take it—she's not so conceited that she'd take credit for something she didn't do.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: She seems akin to this.
  • Brutal Honesty: She'll say it precisely as it is whenever Osamu is concerned.
  • Child Prodigy: Reached A-Rank at a really young age.
  • Compassionate Critic: She's quite harsh on Osamu while he's seeking improvement, if more so than anyone else, but is so out of realism rather than to be a jerk. Aside from having a point, she also mentions that to someone like him, constant kindness will only become a burden.
  • Crush Blush: Fans -or fawns- over Tamakoma-1’s Kyosuke Karasuma.
  • Defensive Feint Trap: Pulls this against Yoneya.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Played with. She's no longer hostile towards Osamu as she was in the beginning, but she's never dere to him either (that side, apparently, is reserved solely for Karasuma).
  • Double Weapon: Shapes the Scorpion as one.
  • Go-Getter Girl: A-Rank, PR Squad member, excellent grades, athletic outside of a trion body, a student of the posh girls' school, etc.—Kitora seems to be a perfectionist in all areas of life, and is very proud of her accomplishments.
  • Grappling-Hook Pistol: Kitora can use the Spider this way thanks to her high physicality.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Kitora is jealous of Osamu for his enlistment into Tamakoma, and becoming the primary disciple of her crush, Karasuma.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Kitora’s character can be summed up as the following:
    • “Eager to prove herself worthy in front of respected seniors.”
    • “Competitive against her peers of the same age group.”
    • “Wanting the absolute adoration from all her juniors.”
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Though she's being somewhat petty when she criticizes Osamu for using his trigger as a trainee (even if he saved lives in the process), she's not wrong when she points out that the ban exists to prevent C-Ranks from getting themselves killed playing hero. Osamu, knowing that did almost happen, can't refute her.
  • Jerkass to One: As to how her Inferiority Superiority Complex works, Kitora is very nice and polite to her seniors and juniors. While with more precision, Kitora’s ego is very competitive with the people around her age; ranging by one birth year of her junior and senior. If one has the talent and skill to earn her respect, such as Yūma Kuga, that would be completely fine with her, but if that person is an inept same-aged Border agent, such as Osamu, she would not hesitate to distain them.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Whoever gives her the decent Senpai-Kohai respect she demands, she would provide the decent amount of guidance they need.
  • Last-Name Basis: One of the few characters who's almost never referred to by her given name, despite being on the younger side.
  • Mentor Archetype: She resists at first, but she teaches Osamu the Spider Trigger, and ends up as the most useful of all of Osamu's side mentors.
  • Mirror Character: She has a lot in common with Osamu, which is part of why he irks her so much. Notably, they're both fighters who face limitations in their position because of their low trion levels and must fight smart instead. However, Kitora takes a more grounded, if brutually realistic approach to self-improvement and criticizes Osamu for having a naive view of what it means to get stronger.
  • The Perfectionist: She strives to be the best at everything she does. In the Expedition Selection Exam arc, she gets one of the best scores on the special assignment... and is disappointed because she wanted to do even better.
  • Pet the Dog: The first sign that she isn't such a jerk was after the Ilgar incident. For all of her stubbornness and initial harping towards Osamu, she voiced her support for him; helping to lessen his consequences for breaking the rules.
  • Sore Loser: In terms of winning the attentions of her crush, and her respected Border seniors, yes, she does not want Osamu to be in her sight.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: She seems self-obsessed, gruff and arrogant at first glance, but has a huge dedication to her duty of protection people and shows quite some interest towards Osamu's growth.
  • Sword and Gun: Often uses a pistol-shaped Trigger alongside her Scorpion. It's later revealed that she started off as a Gunner but didn't have the trion levels to keep at it. Therefore, she switched to being an All-Rounder.
  • Unknown Rival: Osamu's completely unaware that Kitora is pretty much competing with him in her mind.
  • Waif-Fu: Justified though, as she is using a Trion-Body.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: To Osamu, calling him out on his incompetence and on demanding help without saying please. Osamu, being Osamu, resorts to bowing his head and doing just that.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Her Trion Levels aren't that impressive at all, but she made up for that with tactics and determination.

The third member of the Arashiyama Squad. A rather quiet and reserved guy with a bowl cut.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Tokki, as he's dubbed by others in appreciation of him being The Reliable One.
  • Combat Commentator: During the Mikumo vs. Katori vs. Kakizaki fight.
  • Dull Surprise: As his sleepy-eyed look doesn't change, his surprised look is hilariously just him making an O shape with his mouth but his expression remaining unchanged otherwise.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: According to the official World Trigger twitter, he owns two cats. A dark tiger cat named Arthur, and a white cat with black spots, Tomio.
  • Mentor Archetype: To Osamu, as with Arashiyama, though he's also the one who ultimately defers Osamu to Kitora, realizing she can teach him better than he and Arashiyama can.
  • Nerves of Steel: Even after being sniped in the head by Toma, he immediately pulls Kitora out of a direct line of fire before bailing out. Lampshaded by Toma, who complains good-naturedly.
  • Nice Guy: Despite being usually quiet, he's shown to be a really nice guy when he does talk.
  • Not So Above It All: The anime shows a much more playful side of him, such as teasing Kitora on how she treats Osamu, and, in a flashback, being amused by the idea of Yuiga joining Arashiyama Unit (though it's implied that the events in this flashback were all made up by Karasuma). The manga does show hints of this side as well, during his stint as a Combat Commentator.
  • The Reliable One: Described as this in extra material. He's not a point-getter, but rather, he's regarded as one of the best supporters in Border.
  • The Stoic: Remains mostly quiet unless there is anything important to say. In which case he will cut straight to the point.

  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Very funny and sort of a ditz, but he is one of Border's most talented agents.
  • Character Catchphrase: "Did you see my twin rifle sniping?", which he says after every fight in which he is involved.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He is quite goofy outside of combat, but one of the best snipers in all of Border and able to land two critical shots at once.
  • Dual Wielding: Of Sniper Rifles; which seems to be his trademark gimmick.
  • Friendly Sniper: Good-natured and cheerful, delivering each shot with a smile.
  • Firing One-Handed: He fights with a Sniper Rifle in each hand. Trion body or not, it’s pretty impressive.
  • Has a Type: Inverted. He's stated to love all girls equally, and in the Preferences graph, he's smack-dab in the middle, meaning that rather than have a type, he has no preference between appearance vs. personality or what type of personality.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: To the point Azuma put him in charge of teaching the young snipers to release their tension.
  • Running Gag: Him being forgotten/absent compared to the rest of his squad.
  • Shirtless Scene: Anime-only, in episode 56.

  • The Ghost: One of the eight candidates for the Fūjin mentioned by Jin in Chapter 43 long before her actual appearance.
  • Headbutting Heroes: Has something going on with Ninomiya, being unimpressed with him taking command during the Galopoula Invasion without consulting others first and remarking on how if he thinks that the snow map in Azuma vs Mikumo vs Kageura vs Ninomiya match is Azuma's idea, he still has a long way to go.
  • Lethal Chef: According to extra materials, Kuroe is the only one that can endure her cooking. However, it's more like Lethal Chef Roulette—most of the time, her fried rice is fantastic, but the times it's not? It's deadly.

An A-Rank unit led by Shūji Miwa. It is ranked #7 amongst all A-Rank units in Border.
  • Animal Motifs: Snakes, as seen in their emblem. Likely a reference to the way they fight: keeping their enemy trapped in one place through teamwork, like a snake wrapping around its prey.
  • Anti-Villain: They're the first real antagonists against Osamu and Yuma, but at the end of the day, they mean well and, with the exception of Miwa, don't antagonize the protagonists again.
  • Freudian Excuse: With the exception of Yoneya, they all have some reason to dislike Neighbors.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: Aside from Miwa, they're this in the beginning of the series. Yoneya in particular is simply fighting because it's his job to.

The Captain of the Miwa Squad.

He harbors a strong hatred for neighbors because his older sister was killed by them.

  • Anti-Hero: He is willing to fight even supposed allies to get his revenge on all Neighbors alike. This seems to start gradually changing as everyone around him start accepting Yūma as an ally and member of Border and he is forced to, too.
  • Abnormal Ammo: Has a trigger that turns his bullets into weights that slow down the enemy.
  • Bash Brothers: His squad's fighting style—he and Yoneya work in perfect tandem to corner the enemy (while the snipers pick them off if they escape Miwa and Yoneya's cage).
  • Berserk Button: Neighbors/anything that relates to his Cynicism Catalyst, really. In a series about Neighbors, you'd be forgiven for feeling like he has a Hair-Trigger Temper, though he actually seems to be The Stoic otherwise.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Saves Osamu from Hairein in the climax of the Second Invasion arc.
  • Bishie Sparkle: One omake jokes about how he's the only A-Class who can't manifest one. Even Kazama can.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: His older sister was killed by neighbors, which fuels his desire to kill them.
  • Exhausted Eyebags: After the Black Trigger retrieval arc, mostly due to Yuma being admitted into Border.
  • Fantastic Racism: Has an immense hatred against neighbours.
  • Harmful to Minors: He would've been thirteen or so when the first invasion happened, and flashbacks indicate he was right in the midst of the destruction, surrounded by rubble and corpses while he held his dead/dying sister in his arms and begged for Jin to save her. Little wonder that he's not the most well-adjusted kid around.
  • I Was Just Passing Through: Saves Osamu as Jin asked him to do, but in his words only because he wants to defeat Hairein.
  • Irrational Hatred: Miwa wants to maintain a blanket hatred for all Neighbors and gets angry when Yūma offers to help his quest for vengeance by investigating which of the dozens of Neighbor worlds was actually responsible for the death of his sister.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Very rude overall, and outright violent towards Neighbors. That said, he can be civil if he doesn't have an issue with you and has enough courtesy ingrained in him that he'll still display it to those he hates (e.g. picking up Yuma's fallen change for him).
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Uses the Kogetsu.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: A heroic version. He despises Neighbors, but if management says Yuma is an ally? Yuma is an ally, even if the contradiction in Miwa's mind utterly stresses him out.
  • Odd Friendship: He's close enough with Yoneya that they're on a mutual First-Name Basis. They couldn't possibly be more different in personality.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Seems unable to smile.
  • Pet the Dog: He seems to have loosened up after the second invasion; people take him telling Jin not to do anything reckless regarding his mission as a sign of their relationship improving.
  • Rank Up: Subverted in the same way as Kazama. Though he receives Fujin after Kazama declined it, he returns it after the invasion, citing tactical reasons.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: His are a light shade of red, and while not evil he is definitively not a very pleasant individual.
  • Revenge Before Reason: His hatred for Neighbors really clouds his reasoning at times.
  • Scarf of Asskicking: Perhaps subverted, as he wears it while he isn't on his fighting form. Played straight during the second invasion, though, as he reverts to his normal clothing when wielding Fuujin.
  • Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: When widespread orders are given to assist Osamu, Miwa refuses, thanks to Jin's prediction that he'll rescue him. In the end, this means that in the final stretch, when Osamu makes it to the base's vicinity but with no allies left and Aftokrator breathing down his neck, Miwa is the only one close enough to save the day.
  • Sword and Gun: Handgun-shaped Gunner-Trigger and a Kogetsu. A Q&A revealed that he started off with the Kogetsu but picked up Gunner triggers as a countermeasure against Tachikawa.
  • Trick Bullet: Uses special black Trion projectiles that penetrate shields and slow their victim down with huge weight instead of causing damage.
  • You Are Already Dead: To Koskero, who chides him for talking during a battle. Miwa responds by telling him that the battle was already over as soon as Koskero came outside, just before Jin slices him with Fujin.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: When Jin tells him that he'll end up saving Osamu during the invasion, Miwa's reply is basically, "Hell no." When he hears the orders to assist Osamu in escorting the C-Rank agents? So far as one can tell, he ignores it. Unsurprisingly, none of this changes the fact that yup, he's the one who ultimately saves Osamu, grumbling about Jin all the while.

An Attacker of the Miwa Squad.

He is a rather good-natured member of Border, especially compared to the rest of his squad. He has no special resentment against Yūma or Neighbors in general and just likes to do his job and have a good fight.

  • Badasses Wear Bandanas: Wears one both in his Trion form and in his casual attire.
  • Bash Brothers: With Miwa, as is their squad's main tactic. The only fight they're not together in is the second invasion, as Yoneya was off-duty when it occurred.
  • Birds of a Feather: Gets along great with Izumi (and, to a lesser extent, Midorikawa), likely due to their similar attitudes: rowdy, ruthless enough to start off as antagonists, but ultimately decent 17-year-old boys.
  • Blood Knight: A friendly variant, but he is also always looking for a fight. It's worth noting that unlike some other cases in the series, he doesn't even care about his points or ranking; it's really just the fight itself he enjoys.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Always searches for a good fight against strong opponents.
  • Book Dumb: Has bad grades (only Yuma, who's never attended school in his life, and Yotaro, a 5-year-old, are worse) and doesn't seem very conventionally smart, but can be very shrewd and insightful at least where combat is concerned.
  • Character Catchphrase: "Or so you think," which he says at least once in almost every fight.
  • Combat Pragmatist: His Catchphrase is what it is for a reason: his fighting style tends to involve catching his opponents off-guard, starting with his Morph Weapon.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: At a glance, he's probably the most evil-looking of his squad (the Dull Eyes of Unhappiness don't help). He's actually the friendliest of them.
  • Dull Eyes of Unhappiness: Even mentioned by the author, though he isn't very unhappy himself.
  • Graceful Loser: After he and Miwa lose to Yuma. While Miwa bails out in a fit of rage, Yoneya accepts his loss and even says he can't complain if Yuma wants to kill him, since they tried to do the same to him.
  • In-Universe Nickname: "Spear Geek", courtesy of Izumi.
  • Morph Weapon: The tip of his spear can morph similar to a Scorpion with the use of an optional trigger called Genyō and the shaft's length can be changed at will.
  • Nice Guy: Boisterousness aside, he's always laidback and friendly, even towards enemies.
  • The Nicknamer: Calls Izumi "Bullet Fool".
  • Odd Friendship: With Miwa.
  • The Power of Friendship: Or rather the power of teamwork, as he says when he defeats Lamvanein thanks to a combined shield he and other Border agents do that allows him to pierce him with his spear.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Joked by the author. When asked what would happen if Yoneya removed his headband, the answer was that his field of vision would go down but his attractiveness would go up.
  • Shout-Out: His badges feature Rilienthal Hino, Gomuzō and Super Alien Cat, from the creator's previous work Super Dog Rilienthal.
  • Taking You with Me: After Kitora lands a lethal hit on him, he responds by grabbing her and jumping out of the building to allow Izumi a good shot at her.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Seems to be this to Izumi of the Tachikawa Unit, who he "affectionately" calls "Bullet Fool".
  • Weak, but Skilled: Like with Kitora, his trion levels are on the lower side, but he makes up for it with clever fighting.
  • Worthy Opponent: Lamvanein acknowledges him as one.

  • Badass Boast: "A school of fish doesn't count as a shield in my book."
  • Cold Sniper: Of the stoic variety.
  • The Stoic: Not a very emotional person.
  • Technician Versus Performer: Not flashy, but snipes perfect bulls-eyes without fail during practice and runs on tactics in comparison to Touma, who snipes a smiley face and runs on intuition. That said, while annoyed when Touma doesn't take his job seriously, he does respect Touma (and his ability to snipe smiley faces).

Harbors some resentment against Neighbors because they destroyed his house.

  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Somehow believed spying on Tamakoma involved making extensive notes on what did they ate every day. It was just Filler, however.
  • Crush Blush: Kodera is shown to be attracted to Usami, and is always seen becoming a blushing mess when talking to Usami.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Due to his attitude even lower agents scorn him, since he doesn't act like they think an A-Class Agent should.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: He's a bespectacled Sniper and regarded as The Smart Guy.
  • Weak, but Skilled: His team in the Expedition Selection Exam arc shapes up to be this. The rest of Miwa Squad, observing as judges, note that Kodera's team has some of the lowest trion scores across the board but trust that Kodera has strategies in place to get around that.
