Main Characters

    Galen
Selfless and steadfast pillow boy turned healer whose fate gets entangled with Cole's when they meet on Bright Flame.
  • Bystander Syndrome: At first Galen's (understandable) reaction to the growing horrors in Calisto and on Bright Flame in particular is this – get through it with as little damage as possible and leave for a quiet peaceful life. He changes profoundly after the injustice suffered by the fellow man becomes his business, and there's no going back for him.
  • Distressed Dude: For his efforts to ease Cole's fate, he is whipped by Cole's sworn enemy and then sold as a slave by Cole's allies, getting his freedom back only after seven years. He is imprisoned and tortured (and whipped) again by the son of Cole's enemy some years later.
  • Good Samaritan: Dedicated to making people feel better – be it through sleeping with them, healing them, or just being there for them.
  • Hooker with a Heart of Gold: To him, whoring is just a job he does, and does well. Making people's lives better is more a motivation for him than the sex itself.
  • It Meant Something to Me: Throughout the weeks they spent sharing a cabin on Bright Flame, Cole confides in Galen, Galen defends Cole as much as he can, and they grow close. Then the ship gets taken over by rebels, and Cole confesses that the main reason he let Galen so close was to find out how dangerous he'd be to let go after the plan was carried out, and that the only safe way for him to stay alive is to become a Sex Slave with no way to escape. Galen is furious at being used like this, and tells Cole he deserved every bit of abuse he suffered on the ship.
  • Living Is More than Surviving: Galen would rather die than be apart from his loved ones (if he had any say in it, that is). Cole disagrees... for a while.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: He was the eighth child of thirteen. This was one of the reasons he was shoved into a pillow house and off his parents' hands as soon as possible.
  • Meaningful Name: Galen shares a name with Claudius Galen, a real life Roman physician who also improved the life of an ethics-deprived entertainment establishment.
  • The Medic: Takes his healer (side) job very seriously.
  • My Boy Back Home: Galen's lover Parim waits for him to return from his last voyage on Bright Flame. After Galen meets Cole, everything goes south and Galen gets cut off from home for another seven years. When he is finally ready to return, he discovers that Parim has been dead for a couple of years, killed by Calisto's State Sec for being gay.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: With Cole. From their chance meeting on the ship to when they were able to actually live together 12 years later, they only met four times, but were always on each other's minds.
  • Sympathetic Adulterer: Falls for Cole when Parim is unavailable, and then for Rask when Cole has left him (and Parim is still unavailable).
  • Sympathy for the Devil: He doesn't judge anyone – not even his torturer as he's breaking him, or his lover for derailing his entire life. This continues after he's settled down and runs a tavern in Bow: he "heals everyone and keeps their secrets".
  • Token Good Teammate: Can be seen as this for the entire Calisto Empire. (Of course, he represents the common man from there, but he's the only unambiguously good Calisto subject we follow.)
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behaviour: Poor guy was pleasure-trained since the age of nine. Luckily, it didn't traumatise him that much.
  • What You Are in the Dark: Galen finds himself attracted to Cole from the moment he first sees him, broken and imprisoned on the ship, but refuses to take advantage of him – even when ordered by the captain and encouraged by the sailors, and even though Cole himself says it would barely make a difference. He only expresses regret over it when he's about to be sent into the Harem for life because of him.

    Cole
Handsome, charming, formerly popular Rebel Leader with an easy smile and a heavy conscience.
  • Dirty Coward: He was the one to lead the Emerald Palace uprising which intended to assassinate Emperor Queece, but fled from the action upon seeing that his men had no chance of success. He learns to do better eventually.
  • If It's You, It's Okay: Cole admits he had never been attracted to a man before he met Galen.
  • It's Not You, It's My Enemies: Cole insists on keeping himself and Galen apart, however much he wants to be with him, lest the Empire forces take advantage of their bond. Galen hates this.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Actually manages to leave Galen alone once he's settled down with his new lover, and doesn't resent him for it. He only visits Galen after his whole family are dead.
  • I Will Fight No More Forever: After dooming an innocent family to sate his anger, and then abandoning his men in a failed coup, he says he can't bring himself to take a life.
  • The Loins Sleep Tonight: The traumatic "punishment" on Bright Flame leaves him impotent.
  • My Greatest Failure: The day he did nothing to prevent Krake's innocent family from being tortured and killed by his own men still haunts Cole, to the point where he says he deserves the hell Krake inflicts on him on Bright Flame.
  • Rape as Drama: Captain Krake's "sentence" for Cole is to be abused and systematically raped by his sailors, repeatedly, for weeks. We don't really see how Cole was before, but he's clearly not the same ever since.
  • Rebel Leader: Of Thunder Rebellion. They don't see him as much of an authority though, sometimes with good reason.
  • Red Baron: To the rebels and Calistan forces he is known as Red Cole.
  • Retired Badass: In Jewel of the Harem he gives off this vibe, having settled down with his new family.
  • Revenge by Proxy: Was perfectly fine with doing the same to Krake's family that he had done to the rebels'. For a while, anyway.
  • Sad Clown / Stepford Smiler: Hides his trauma, fear and regret behind quips and dazzling grins. Galen can see right through it.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: With Galen. From their chance meeting on the ship to when they were able to actually live together 12 years later, they only met four times, but were always on each other's minds.
  • Sympathetic Adulterer: It's revealed at the end he had a wife and children in Calisto the whole time, but hadn't maintained contact with them for years – right until they were murdered by his vengeful former victim, Silas.

    Rask
A sex slave Galen meets during his stay in the Harem of Caen, and falls in love with because of loneliness and his familiar face.
  • Easily Forgiven: Galen says he's seen "so much worse" after Rask beats and guilts him into sex out of jealousy for Cole. Rask may not have deserved his forgiveness, but he tries his best to live up to it.
  • Ethical Slut: Is friendly and considerate to his clients and romantically faithful to Galen, expecting Galen to do the same.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Jealousy gets the better of him when Cole resurfaces and Galen spends a night with him without a second thought. Rask tattles on him to some Calistan soldiers in the port and forces Galen to have sex with him while calling him Cole, then regrets it immediately and tries his best to atone.
  • Hooker with a Heart of Gold: He is a sex worker who loves his job and treats his clients right. When Galen shifts to healing, Rask becomes his assistant of sorts.
  • Identical Stranger: Almost a spitting image of Cole, by a dramatic coincidence.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: He realises he shouldn't be with Galen after seeing what his jealousy can do to him. He's fine with letting Cole take his place.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Galen falls in love with him in the first place because he looks painfully like Cole. And Cole, in turn, sees his lost son in him when they meet.
  • Romantic False Lead: Becomes close with Galen when he's isolated from Cole. By the end of the story, when Cole returns, he sees himself as this – after forcing Galen into sex with him in a fit of jealousy and landing him in a Hellhole Prison, Rask asks Cole to rescue him and is willing to let them be.
  • Slave Liberation: Rask escapes from the Harem courtesy of an aging Caen aristocrat who buys him as a slave. After his master's death Rask comes right back to Galen, to buy him out of the Harem with the money he inherited.
  • Third Wheel: To Galen and Cole. They end up sticking together.

    Runi Assam
Child Prodigy who became the head of Bow's government at 19. He's obsessed with making the kingdom rich, but soon has to deal with a threat of invasion.
  • Aliens Made Them Do It: Zagor forces him and Charna to have sex to humiliate them and force them to comply with his plans.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Does this several times in stressful situations. In general, he prefers to get a clear picture of the situation and its possible outcomes as soon as possible.
  • Brains and Bondage: One of the smartest people of his time and possibly one of the most submissive in bed.
  • Child Prodigy: Runi was recognized as a mathematical genius when he was 7, and was admitted to court as an apprentice to the then High Chancellor at 12.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Has moments of this when he's exasperated.
  • Distressed Dude: Gets roped into a kinky relationship with a powerful mage (that only turns clearly consensual later), taken as a hostage by Zagor and isolated from his lover who he just got married to, then raped by Zagor (once by proxy, once in person) to motivate said lover to do the impossible, almost burned to death at the stake, and subjected to yet more pain and humiliation by the only entity powerful enough to rescue him. At least the following 20 years seem to have been peaceful for him.
  • The Good Chancellor: The kingdom of Bow flourishes with him in office, becoming an economically booming and potentially powerful opponent to Calisto.
  • Happily Married: To Myr. They are still together and just as smitten with each other twenty years on.
  • Iron Woobie: Keeps a surprisingly clear head and stays determined to survive, despite the torment he has to go through.
  • "It" Is Dehumanizing: The fey all refer to Runi as "it" in Son of Tears. (Oddly enough, the fey queen switches to "he" in Jewel of the Harem.)
  • Kissing Under the Influence: He and Prince Charna spent a drunken night together once. They still seem to be vaguely interested in each other, but remain good if a bit awkward friends.
  • Love Makes You Dumb: While a warlord is conquering Bow's neighbours one by one, Runi is too smitten with Myr to keep a clear head during council meetings, and overlooks the threat until an invasion is inevitable.
  • Plain Jane: Runi is described, and sees himself, as rather unremarkable, especially compared to stunners like Myr or Charna. Myr (and likely Charna too) beg to differ.
  • Powerful People Are Subs: Word of God confirms that, after being saddled with a lot of responsibility from a very young age, he finds the experience of giving up control thrilling and liberating.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: In Jewel of the Harem he is this to Piff and Adar, gently instructing them on the necessary course of action and Perpetua's customs.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: He finds out there's little pain he can't withstand or turn into pleasure, especially when Myr is there to see it.

    Myr of the North
Bow's ethereal and mysterious Court Mage.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Half fey.
  • Happily Married: To Runi. They are still together and just as smitten with each other twenty years on.
  • Heroic Bastard: His mother is the queen of fey, who his human father had an affair with. He's not even close to being the next in line, though, and has no wish to claim any throne.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: From passing references to his appearance, he's rocking this look.
  • A Mistake Is Born: Myr's parents, being of different species, didn't expect a conception to result from their affair – but it did.
  • Mystical White Hair: Myr has it, setting off some alarms that he may not be as human as he tries to appear. He's not.
  • Surprise Witness: For the trial of Varak in His Tribute, since no one anticipated him being able to recount the story of Varak's madness after Goren had died.
  • The Stoic: Possibly as a result of his father being physically abusive to him, Myr is really good at hiding his true feelings, be it love or anger or despair.
  • Third Time's The Charm: In the original AO3 version, he was unable to save Runi from rape twice in a row. But the third time, when fey palace guards try to get their hands on him, he's finally there in time to ward them off.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: Downplayed. He has a tendency for cruelty, but never lets it get out of hand and loves his husband and son dearly.

    Blue
Son of Councilor Mizral of the Genzies, he is unexpectedly picked by Varak as his sole yearly Tribute.
  • Property of Love: Varak's love slave. Eventually, a willing one.
  • Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: His appearance, which sets him apart from the other, golden-haired boys on Salvation.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Varak's lover was Blue's uncle Hilde, who he killed in his fey-induced Unstoppable Rage required to defeat the Horror. Blue looks a lot like him, and Varak can't help himself.
  • Royal Brat: Blue isn't used to meeting adverse consequences for his manners or actions. This lands him in trouble when he's at the mercy of Varak, whose idea of consequences (for even saying "no") is quite disproportionate.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Being a councillor's son makes it possible to pull rank at the Izem dungeon guards, who let him reunite with his fellow slaves and then with Varak.
  • Stockholm Syndrome: Eventually happens to Blue in relation to his imprisonment in Varak's castle, like it did to everyone before him.
  • The Twink: Pale, lithe, black-haired and sassy.
  • Uncanny Family Resemblance: He looks a lot like his deceased uncle Hilde, who was in an (obliviously mutual) relationship with Varak during the latter's quest to save the Genzies.

    Varak
Legendary warrior who saved Genzies from the Horror at the cost of his humanity, and retreated to a remote island which gradually became filled with Sex Slaves.
  • Charm Person: For some reason, his slaves' least favourite activities that he enjoys soon become their favourite activities too.
  • Deal with the Devil: To become strong enough to challenge the Horror, he was advised by Goren to let the fey touch him in his sleep. The result was fearlessness and bloodlust which helped him save the islands; the cost was his peace of mind, ability to love and coexist with others.
  • Fetishized Abuser: Varak's idea of seduction is frankly scary. When Blue expresses displeasure at the idea of serving him, he reacts with physical and psychological abuse until he caves. Later, when Blue has the nerve to share a bed with someone else (which he didn't know was forbidden), Varak beats him up. Blue is lucky to turn out to be into all that.
  • Has a Type: All his slaves are young blond men. It's eventually revealed that Blue exemplifies another type of his – "looks like my loyal page who I brutally killed upon losing my humanity and have regretted it ever since".
  • The Hermit: Lives on a remote island with his slaves.
  • Lost Lenore: Has had two in a row. One was a silversmith from the island which was the first target of the Horror; the other was Hilde, who Varak had to sacrifice to gain enough power to stop the threat, didn't have the heart to do so, and then killed him anyway in a fit of magical Unstoppable Rage.
  • No Hero to His Valet: Drum knows him better than anyone else on Salvation. He still reveres him, downplaying the trope, but snarks like there's no tomorrow too.
  • Pet the Dog: Has moments of this peppered throughout His Tribute. He's sadistic and possessive, but has some idea of fairness and mercy.
  • Property of Love: Blue is his, eventually willingly. Some of the other slaves express similar devotion.
  • Sex God: If you happen to be into the same things he's into, you're in for a treat.
  • Sympathetic Slave Owner: The Salvation boys are well fed, housed and... uh... occupied?..
  • Unstoppable Rage: What he had to achieve to fight off the Horror. It took him a long time to resemble a civilized human again.

    Piff
Young, simple-minded Harem guard who first gets noticed by a beautiful but cruel Royal Favorite and then by a beautiful but reckless young prince.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Gets called "little soldier" by Jewel and "(insert adjective) brute" by Adar.
  • Desperately Needs Orders / Extreme Doormat: Most of his goals in Jewel of the Harem are not even his own, but his superiors'.
  • Dumb Muscle: Not bright or a great judge of people, but good in a fight (and in bed).
  • Hunk: Adar certainly sees him as this.
  • Love Martyr: Jewel treats him like a toy, and Piff defends everything he does.
  • Nice to the Waiter: Piff thanks the page who gives him something to drape over himself in the palace.
  • Son of a Whore: He was born in the Harem and never knew his parents.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: His devotion to Jewel gets him through the lashing he has to endure for being seduced by a royal favourite.
  • Verbal Backspace: Piff has a habit of beginning to point something out to someone of a higher social sta– Deciding it's not worth it in mid-sentence.

    Jewel
Mysterious High Class Sex Worker in the Harem of Caen who seduces Piff and puts him through one painful trial after another.

    Prince Adar
The youngest and illegitimate child of Queen Verne of Bow, a desperate flirt with an oddly ethereal appearance.
  • Affection-Hating Kid: Despite being seventeen and absolutely uninhibited himself, Adar rolls his eyes at Myr and Runi being Sickeningly Sweethearts in his presence. It's extra hypocritical of him to snuggle up to Piff immediately after cringing. But then again attraction and feelings are different things, and Adar is a Royal Brat.
  • Aren't You Going to Ravish Me?: Says this almost word-for-word after being kidnapped by Piff and repeatedly not forced into intercourse (for fear of what Jewel might do to both of them).
  • Chocolate Baby: Adar doesn't look a bit like Prince Charna, his mother's husband. Who he looks a lot like, however, is Myr of the North – who agreed to father him in order to double the amount of magical power available to the kingdom.
  • Dumbass Teenage Son: Apparently, sneaking out of a ballroom to have sex with a Fake Aristocrat from a potentially hostile country is the sort of thing to get a reaction of "typical Adar" from the palace guards.
  • The Fair Folk: By a quarter, on his father's side.
  • Freudian Excuse: He was conceived, born and raised as a magic-powering McGuffin and feels neglected by his family. He half-ironically hopes that is enough excuse for his reckless, clingy behaviour.

Calisto Empire

    In general
The largest polity in the setting, an oppressive, militaristic state who try to impose their will on the other countries of Netheredge with force of arms and espionage.

    Emperor Queece
The current Calistan leader who has been changing their policies From Bad to Worse for several decades.

    Thunder Rebellion
A violent, increasingly desperate anti-government faction that Red Cole is a prominent member of.

    Captain Krake
Originally: Captain Fry
Used to be an enforcer responsible for "cleansing" insubordinate settlements. After the Thunder rebels led by Red Cole retaliate by massacring his entire family, he sets out to find him and punish him as painfully as possible.

    Silas Krake
Originally: Silas Fry
Son of Captain Krake, he lost his mother and siblings (and later presumably his father) to Red Cole's rebels, and wishes to see him and anyone he loves suffer for that.
  • Cycle of Revenge: The Thunder rebels, robbed of their loved ones, took out their hatred for Krake on his family, including a nine-year-old Silas. Years later, Krake avenges Cole for his own family, and gets presumably killed by the rebels. Now Silas has more than enough motivation for revenge, and bites back at Cole again.
  • Rape as Backstory: What the rebels did to him and his mother to scare them even further.
  • Revenge by Proxy: He captures Galen to make Cole suffer more. He even says he'd like to let Cole love again so he can continue tormenting his lovers forever.
  • Sole Survivor: Of the massacre that took away his mother and siblings.
  • You Killed My Father: His whole family suffered at the hands of the Thunder Rebellion, and he would very much like to see their leader pay for that.

    Lady Ebb
Calistan noblewoman in the Genzies high council, responsible for many freedoms they lost over the years as their Puppet State.
  • Evil Matriarch: She first sent his son Perry away as a slave to Varak, and then refused to listen when he said he wishes to stay.

    Parim
Galen's lover from the port town of Pithiya who is waiting for his return.

Northern Lands

    In general
A cold and rather mystical region, famous for their familiarity with fey magic and egalitarian customs.

    Queen Verne of Bow
The current monarch of Bow.
  • Damsel in Distress: Is taken hostage by Zagor the Tyrant to exercise pressure on Charna, Forced to Watch the torture of her courtiers, and possibly raped.
  • The High Queen: Ladylike, serene and devoted to her kingdom.
  • Marriage Before Romance: She didn't marry Charna of her own volition, but they do warm up to each other, look out for each other at the time of need and later have children together.

    Prince Charna
Charismatic and self-indulgent Prince Consort of the Queen of Bow, ruling alongside Verne.
  • Aliens Made Them Do It: Zagor forces him and Runi to have sex to humiliate them and force them to comply with his plans.
  • Charm Person: An excellent negotiator and diplomat, as well as an irresistible flirt.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: He has blonde hair and is, for all his flaws, a genuinely good person, which shows when he's trying his best to alleviate the damage Zagor is doing to his loved ones.
  • Kissing Under the Influence: He and Runi spent a drunken night together once. They still seem to be vaguely interested in each other, but remain good if a bit awkward friends.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: Charna is notoriously promiscuous, but appears to treat his (successful) conquests as people and is there for them when they need help. He even feels guilty for neglecting his wife Verne and hurting her reputation.
  • Marriage Before Romance: He didn't marry Verne of his own volition, but they do warm up to each other, look out for each other at the time of need and later have children together.
  • Prince Charming: Projects this image with his charisma and style.
  • Promiscuity After Rape: An implied reason for his hypersexual behaviour is that he had been pimped out by his parents since before he was 15.
  • Rags to Royalty: He was only a bright and charming commoner before joining the court and becoming the second monarch.
  • Really Gets Around: His sexploits in and around the Bow court are a staple of local gossip.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behaviour: His merchant parents forced him into sex work as a child.

    Captain Lue
Originally: Captain Zem
Bow's Captain of the guard. He helps Zagor invade Bow.
  • Artistic License – Military: He is seemingly in charge of all of Bow's military force, and yet his rank is only captain?
  • Asshole Victim: He gets burnt at the stake in Runi's place. Even after all he's been through because of him, Runi is left wondering if such an end was deserved.
  • Big Beautiful Man: Both Charna and, despite himself, Runi find his burly muscled looks attractive.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Why he thought that a ruthless warlord who readily employs traitors wouldn't use any methods available to get what he wants is a mystery.
  • Redemption Equals Death: He begins to doubt Zagor's justifications for his actions eventually, and tries to defend Runi – before being randomly burned to death in Runi's place at the fey queen's whim.
  • Regretful Traitor: Seeing what he unleashed on his country by letting Zagor in makes him question himself in the end.
  • The Quisling: He thinks that Bow needs a strong military leader instead of a merchant who sells magic to their allies and enemies alike, and so helps Zagor's forces slip past the border wards.

    Zagor the Tyrant
Galash military leader who asserts himself as its sovereign and conquers anyone who disagrees, afraid of Northern Lands succumbing to Calisto aggression.
  • Adaptational Heroism: In the AO3 original, he actually went through with raping Runi, whereas in the final version he gets distracted before it can happen. Doesn't absolve him, though.
  • And Now You Must Marry Me: Zagor forcefully marries Verne after conquering Bow, to make himself a legitimate ruler. Thus, after his death, Verne as his widow gets to lay claim on the land he conquered.
  • Rebel Leader: Led an unspecified rebellion in Galash which let him become a warden of that city and country.
  • Sadist: Despite his claims of "I only do what I have to do", he seems to genuinely enjoy tormenting his victims.
  • Tyrant Takes the Helm: Zagor eventually invades Bow and horrors ensue.
  • The Usurper: Puts himself on Bow's throne by force.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: He seems to think his goal of strengthening the region against Calisto justifies the physical and psychological torture he unleashes on Bow's court to make them do the impossible.

    The fey queen
Powerful fey sorceress and the capricious ruler of Perpetua. Myr's mother.

    Warden of the Moonless Night
Lustful fey courtier who sets his sights on Runi.
  • Faerie Court: He's a prominent member of Perpetua's court.
  • Sadist: He is a member of the Exquisite – a torturer in the fey court. He and his position were made for one another.
  • Uncertain Doom: We didn't see him die in Son of Tears. In Jewel of the Harem the queen says he is dead, but she could be lying.

    Goren of the North
Legendary wizard with dark secrets, Bow's previous Court Mage, and father of Myr.
  • Posthumous Character: He is dead before any of the cycle's main events, but plays a prominent role in several characters' histories.

The Genzies

    Councillor Mizral
Blue's father, determined to put a stop to the custom of Tribute.
  • Hero Antagonist: He is understandably worried for his son, and outraged by what Varak gets away with by being the Saviour of the Genzies. But he doesn't let Blue explain himself, and the main reason for his hatred is fed to him by his treacherous co-councillors from Calisto.
  • The Kindnapper: He raids Isle Salvation, killing some of the guards and imprisoning the rest of the island's inhabitants, to rescue his son and other noble slaves. (But mostly it's to punish Varak and make the council look better in Calisto's eyes.)
  • The Victim Must Be Confused: Insists that Blue has Stockholm Syndrome. He is almost certainly right. But Blue still wants to give Varak a chance.
  • The Quisling: He likes the idea of Genzies becoming a subject of Calisto.

    Caspar
Mizral's brother-in-law and Hilde's brother, Blue's uncle.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He is Blue's only hope to rehabilitate Varak, and proves that hope was not misplaced.
  • Surprise Witness: His Big Damn Heroes moment at Varak's trial. He reveals there were unaccounted-for witnesses to the case – Goren (now deceased) and Myr – whose testimony can overturn the verdict.

    Hilde
Mizral's brother-in-law, Caspar's brother. Left home and accompanied Varak on his quest to save the Genzies.

Isle Salvation

    In general
After twenty years of Tribute, Varak's island has over a hundred slaves populating it – all blond, mostly pleasure-trained, and brought here at the age of eighteen.

    Joy
Varak's favourite slave before Blue showed up; a beautiful and casually seductive youth, he shows interest in Blue immediately and ends up sleeping with him on the regular.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: All the slaves are blond and most of them are quite nice, but Joy is probably the gentlest and sweetest of them all.
  • Heroic Seductress: He doesn't waste time in the Izem dungeon and seduces a guard – just in case it proves to be useful. It does, helping Blue and Varak reunite.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Again, not a unique trait on the island, but he appears to be the best-looking and most eager to flaunt it. The narration emphasizes that.
  • Odd Couple: With Drum at the end.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: "Anyway, I’m Joy. That’s not my real name. But pleased to meet you anyway."
  • Promiscuity After Rape: His training began at the age of five. Now, as a young man, he seems to be completely incapable of relating to people outside of sexual context.

    Drum
One of the oldest slaves on Salvation and Varak's right-hand man.
  • The Confidant: After Varak lost interest in him as a bedmate, he has been "the closest Varak has to a friend".
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: Drum doesn't always agree with Varak's actions, but is loyal to him all the same. He also cheats a bit, neglecting to tell Varak when the slaves are disobeying him until he decides to check on them himself.
  • Odd Couple: With Joy at the end.
  • Only Sane Employee: He's the one managing the castle and its inhabitants – their owner Varak doesn't always have the presence of mind to do it.
  • Servile Snarker: Drum knows Varak better than anyone else on Salvation. He reveres him, but snarks like there's no tomorrow too.

    Perry Ebb
A round-faced, quiet young man who is very curious about the origins of the custom of the Tribute.
  • Blue Blood: A son to a Calistan noblewoman, and the token gift from Calisto to Varak.
  • Only Sane Man / The Smart Guy: Theorizes a lot about Varak's motivations and history, and gets several things right.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Dresses as a servant girl to sneak into Blue's room when Blue is locked inside.

    Garamid and Samara
Two of Varak's slaves, inseparable lovers.
  • The Dividual: They are barely seen apart, usually making out.
  • Immodest Orgasm: Garamid has a reputation for doing this, according to Drum.
  • Killed Off for Real: In the raid organized by Mizral.
  • Love Makes You Dumb: While Garamid is fighting off Mizral's men, Samara is going mad with worry, locked up with the others in a safe place. Eventually he breaks out and thus gives away everyone's location, getting himself killed along with Garamid.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: Garamid is into caning. At one point he steals some food just to earn a punishment.

    Twinkle
The exception to the "18-year-olds only" rule, who Varak kept out of pity.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: He is the only 14-year-old to be transported to the island; Varak theorizes his family sent him there out of desperation and/or poverty. He lets him stay and look after the chickens, and other slaves are friendly towards him.
  • Jail Bait Wait: Varak forbids touching him until he is of age. Joy, being Joy, hints he may see Twinkle as this trope.

    The twin spies
Unsuccessful assassins disguised as sex slaves for Varak, sent by Mizral.
  • The Mole: They were trained and slipped to Varak as a trap, if not to assasinate him then to make him scared.
  • Single-Minded Twins: They know each other really well. Really.
  • Twincest: Show no issue doing that if a scene requires it.

Caen

    King Dia of Caen
The heir to Caen's throne who is possessive of Jewel and anxious about Bow's immense magical capability. Instructs Piff to kidnap Prince Adar.

    Misha
Runs the Grey House that Galen is sold to in the Harem of Caen.
