Heartwarming / Tales from Netheredge

Go To

Beware of unmarked spoilers.

Bright Flame

  • What little we hear about Parim and his relationship with Galen (even though it's mostly declared, not shown). The botany book he gifted to Galen, which later inspired him to pursue a healer's path, and the letters that reached Galen before Parim's death all indicate he was a person worth missing.
  • Despite Galen and Rask's relationship being born mostly out of desperation, and despite Rask's jealous streak – they ran a household and a business for five happy(ish) years. Even after shit hits the fan with Cole's return, Rask wants to stay with them.
  • Misha's friendship with Galen. They share their woes over a glass of tonic, and she appreciates how much he does for the people in their care.
  • Galen finds the strength to feel sympathy for Silas as he's torturing and threatening him and has zero intention of appreciating it.
  • Galen forgiving Rask for his cruel outburst may seem unearned, but in a way, it inspired Rask to be worthy of Galen again. And he finds it in him to ask Cole – the "other man" and reason for his jealousy – for help. He understands that Galen not needing him as much as Rask wants him to is okay.
    • By the end all three men have reasons to love and hate each other, and they consciously choose love. In Jewel we see that it has worked.

Son of Tears

  • The way Myr and Runi's bond gradually deepens from "casual kink/business partner" to "soulmate worth spending a life with". The second encounter is where their two-way communication really begins, trust is kindled, and over the course of the book Runi's inner monologue morphs from feelings of awe and lust to sweet endearment.
    • Myr is very careful not to hurt Runi for real. And after realizing the extent of his sadism he is scared and ashamed of his own desires just like Runi was, and Runi is now the one reassuring him. Being completely accepted for who he is clearly means the world to him.
    • Runi has always been praised for his mind, his maths ability, his (questionable) political sense – his great personality, so to speak – but it seems that Myr was the first person in his life to openly recognize him as beautiful.
    • The marriage proposal scene is pure warm fuzzies as they realize how much they already have in common and want to give each other even more.
  • Verne and Charna do care for each other after all, and Charna tries his hardest to be a knight in shining armor worthy of his title.
  • The friendship between Runi and Charna. Charna is grateful to Runi for pulling him out of the hell he was in, and Runi is apologetic for not realizing he was in one at all.

Jewel of the Harem

  • Galen, Cole and Rask have opened a tavern in the harbor, using their respective skills to help run it, and seem quite happy.
  • Runi and Myr haven't changed almost at all in 20 years of marriage, to the point that their open affection makes Adar cringe.
