    Charles Foster Offdensen

Charles Foster Offdensen (The Dead Man)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cfo.jpg
Voiced by: Brendon Small
"Managing this band is the hardest thing you'll ever do in your life. You won't be thanked for your work. No one will remember your birthday. People will take you for granted. [...] And, like I said, your life will be in constant danger. You'll ask yourself, 'Why do I do this?' And ultimately, you'll know that it simply needs to be done. It's the most rewarding thing you'll ever do. It's something worth dying for."

CFO/asskicker for Dethklok, and person who keeps them from financially imploding.

  • The Ace: Charles is effectively the most competent character of the series and with the exception of getting the band to actually listen to him there's nothing he can't do.
  • Ambiguously Absent Parent: In "Fatherklok" where he tries to get Skwisgaar to open up a bit more regarding his father issues, where he refers to his own father exclusively in the past tense and remarks about how it feels to lose the "might of a father's touch". Although the exact meaning and significance of the scene aren't really explained.
  • Ambiguously Trained: How one earth he got so good at hand to hand combat and became a tactical expert we may never know. Let alone why he decided to apply this to a death metal band of all things!
  • Arch-Enemy: To the Metal Masked Assassin. When any big fights occur you can be sure these two are gonna gun for each other first.
  • Ascended Extra: Seems relatively unimportant in the first season. Then the finale happened...
  • Attack Pattern Alpha:
Offdensen: Put the boots to him - medium style.
  • Awesome Moment of Crowning: Is made leader of the Church of the Black Klok at the end of "The Doomstar Requiem".
  • Back from the Dead: With an assist from the Church of the Black Klok.
  • Badass Bookworm: A smart, buttoned-up, nebbish looking guy in a suit. Also capable of kicking seven shades of shit out of people.
  • Badass Bureaucrat: He can fence, can fight assassins without breaking a sweat, lead the band's faceless minions like an army commander, and make sure Dethklok is fed and happy before the day is done.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: Kicks ass and manages to keep his suit clean at the same time.
  • Badass Longcoat: His winter gear in "Doublebookedklok".
  • Badass Normal: As far as we know, he's just a really competent corpo capable of not only running a figurative and literal empire but also get his hands dirty if need be.
  • Badass Preacher: Doesn't lose his streak as the High Priest of the Church of the Black Klok, especially prominent in the final battle.
  • Bad Boss: He's milder compared to the other examples, but considering his treatment of everyone else that is not Dethklok, he still fits. He has shades of treating his assistants as disposable, horrible workplaces that he could have forced the band to fix at least, has control of businesses and driving competitors to bankruptcy to protect their IP. On the other hand...
    • Summed up best in The Doomstar Requiem, when he finds out their best Klokateer was killed in an attempt to find Toki:
Charles: "Oh. Throw him in the garbage."
  • Battle Butler: While the band thinks he's merely there to handle business and talk them out of bad ideas, he really controls everything behind the scenes, acting as an enforcer, silencer and bodyguard if need to be. When the band members were in trouble, he nearly kills the assassin in a hand-to-hand fight. He also has no qualms having undesirable people killed (Eric Jomfru) or tortured (Dr. Rockzo). When another person was considered as his replacement, Offdensen states that he'd have to kill him to get the job. He tried. He failed. Then Offdenson metaphorically spit on his grave by posthumously making him a pedophile.
    "I'm not a butler. Whatever."
  • Beleaguered Assistant: Has shades of this on occasion. It's quite impressive that he even managed to stay sane what with Dethklok's Manchild tendencies and the rather appalling treatment they give him on a daily basis.
  • Big Damn Heroes: At the end of "Renovationklok", showing up at exactly the right time to prevent Dethklok from signing a new contract with a corrupt record executive.
  • Big Good: Or a Nominal Hero borderline Noble Demon variant. He's responsible for keeping Dethklok safe financially, physically, and emotionally. As the series progresses, it becomes clear that he's the most important person working with Dethklok that isn't a bandmember. Even after he quits in "The Doomstar Requiem", he ends up taking up the mantle of the leader of the Church of the Black Klok.
  • Bond One-Liner: Loves trying to end meetings with these. They typically fall flat.
  • But Now I Must Go: Terminates his contract with Dethklok in "The Doomstar Requiem", leaving to take the mantle as the new head of the Church of the Black Klok. And he means it this time as he's Put on a Bus for almost the entirety of Army of the Doomstar..
  • Catchphrase: "For the record, I tried."
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: Charles will order very shady things to keep Dethklok safe and happy. He has no issue with it either.
  • Crazy-Prepared: If there's an obstacle in his way, then he'll probably find a solution for it, no matter how ridiculous it is.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Does this from time to time, especially if Dethklok does something stupid.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Does a lot of things to keep Dethklok going, yet he never receives praise or recognition for it.
  • Dull Surprise: How he reacts to Dethklok's antics and the ludicrously gory things that happen on a daily basis. Though whenever he has Nathan yelling at him, the "surprise" part is more shock than anything.
  • Endearingly Dorky: Shows some shades of this in his free style rap.
  • Expy: According to Brendon Small, CFO is based on Robert Duvall's Tom Hagen character from The Godfather. Only, he's much more of a "wartime consigliere".
  • Facepalm: Does a variation of this by pinching his nose bridge whenever Dethklok refuses to listen to him or does something stupid.
  • The Glasses Come Off: Subverted, the glasses usually stay on, it's the tie that comes off.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: When Offdensen got the everloving shit beaten out of him during the season 2 finale, the Metal Masked Assassin cut his cheek quite deeply. When Offdensen makes his triumphant return in the season 3 premiere, he has a scar from it. But after the premiere it is no longer visible, at least to the naked eye.
  • Holy Back Light: During his Big Damn Heroes moment in "Renovationklok".
  • Hypercompetent Sidekick: The members of Dethklok would be broke, dead or both from their own stupidity if it wasn't for him constantly bailing them out, and he has a contingency plan for practically every problem Dethklok could face.
  • Inexplicably Awesome: While the bizarre events and impressive feats surrounding Dethklok could be chalked up to them being tied to The Prophecy, Charles Foster Offdensen's badassery and extreme competency in taking care of Dethklok financially, physically and emotionally is practically superhuman yet there's no indication that he's anything other than a normal man.
    • Possibly subverted in "The Church of the Black Klok" where it's revealed that he's actually a major part of the prophecy known as "The Dead Man", a figure destined to guide Dethklok though he will have to suffer a temporary death.
  • Jerkass to One: While he maintains a professional and detached demeanor towards everyone, he has a particular contempt for Dr. Rockso. When he finds him going through electric torture, he half-heartedly tells the Klokateers to stop before telling them to give him one more jolt. He also orders them to "put the boots to him: Medium Style", IE; take him out back and kick the shit out of him.
  • Leitmotif: Beginning with the season 2 finale, a melody with violins and brass instruments would begin to play in Offdensen's more dramatic moments. Specifically it's heard when Offdensen leads the charge on the Revengencers attacking Mordhaus. It returns in the season 3 opening while he's speaking to the band in the credits and in the season 3 finale when he's training his new assistant.
    • The 2nd half of the melody is incorporated into the song "Crush The Industry". at about 3:25. Ironic, considering the song's about losing money and his primary job is to keep Dethklok from losing money.
  • Meaningful Name: Charles Foster Offdensen is the '''CFO''', in charge of the band's money.
    • His last name also sounds similar to both "often seen" and "often sin". As their manager and P.R. Person, he's often seen with Dethklok during public events. He's also an Amoral Attorney willing to have horrible things done for the sake of the band so he often sins too.
  • Mr. Fanservice: In particular, his return in season three where his hair is unkempt and he has a visible scar on his face made some fans swoon. The episode "Fanklok" even goes as far to imply that he occasionally gets this reaction in-universe as sexually charged fan art of him is being sold at the convention alongside art of Dethklok themselves.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: Despite his skinny frame and average height, he can kick the ass of people twice his size.
  • My Greatest Failure Considers Toki's abduction to be this, solemnly declaring that he failed his work and the band because of it. Arguably even indirectly causing him to resign and commit to the Black Klok fulltime.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling: Always has an uncanny ability to know whenever something bad happened to the band. He was right in every single moment.
  • Mysterious Past: The only things we know about him are his father had strong hands, he fenced in college in 1985 (so presumably in his forties for most of the series), and was not the first person to manage Dethklok
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: One would think such a formal name would not be feared, but once they cross his path, hearing "Offdensen" will send a shiver down their spines.
  • No One Could Survive That!: The fourth season finale revealed that he didn't, but not from the beating itself. He died because he witnessed Mr. Salacia brainwashing Gen. Crozier. He was revived and nursed back to health by the Church of the Black Klok.
  • Not So Above It All: A DVD extra from season 2 (Set after his defeat of Melmord) has him go out and get shitfaced with Dethklok to make them feel better.
    • A DVD extra from season 4 reveals that in his free time he likes to free style rap.
  • Not So Stoic
    • Is at his limit in “Doublebookedklok” getting so pissed off at the band that he raises his voice at least once. To say nothing of his horrified reaction to being Touched by Vorlons.
    • Goes full Large Ham in the intro for the Babyklok shows which certainly applies even with his post-Doomstar Requiem characterization in mind.
  • Only Sane Employee/Only Sane Man: Offdensen is the sole reason Dethklok aren't broke, dead or both.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • When he finally snaps at the band during "Doublebookedklok" for their stupidity, which he has almost never done before. The band runs away with the knowledge that they think they finally made Charles hate them.
Offdensen: Go away! The five of you are the cause of all this. I want you out of my sight now. Go. Go...
Nathan: But what about- I thought you were gonna-
    Offdensen: Get outta here!
    • "Dethdinner" has Charles break his stoic persona and get visibly nervous about Dethklok's antics ruining the dinner party. Nathan even points it out for us:
Nathan: Man, are you nervous? I've never seen you nervous before.
    Offdensen: I'm fine. Totally calm.
Nathan: (hand on shoulder) No you're not. No you're nooot.
  • Parental Substitute: Becomes something like a father towards Dethklok from Season 3 onward.
  • Papa Wolf: As he put it when he first met the Masked Metal Assassin...
Offdensen: That's my bread and butter you're (guitar riff)-ing with.
  • Precision F-Strike: Is pretty much the only main character that don't swear like a sailor for reasons that should be obvious, but the few times he does on his accord you can still tell he means business.
  • Red Baron: The Dead Man, according to the Prophecy.
  • Royal Rapier: A highly intelligent, financial genius who fenced in college and is still quite skilled at it as Melmord learned the hard way.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Is almost always never seen without a suit on.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: Compared to Dethklok, that's not saying much due to their stupidity, but he's definitely an intelligent CFO.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Does he spell his last name with one F or two? Brendon Small spells it as Offdensen; it's also spelled with two F's in the production credits for the Dethalbums.
  • The Stoic: So stoic that the band commented that he has a "heart of ice" and Murderface loves to call him a robot.
  • Stoic Spectacles: He has professionally-made business spectacles.
  • Straight Man: To Dethklok.
  • Stutter Stop: Has rather cluttered, clipped speech throughout the series that noticeably disappears to varying degrees in more serious moments and by the time of Army of the Doomstar (and to a lesser extent Requiem although to be fair literally everyone is singing in that) it is gone entirely.
  • Superior Successor: Heavily implied as one of the many patrons at The Depths of Humanity is Dethklok's manager before him, although how that came to happen is never explained.
  • Team Dad: While Nathan is Dethklok's band dad, Charles is the CFO Dad. Looking after them like a beleaguered father with spoiled children. In "Doublebookedklok", the band outright runs away after Charles reaches his limits and raises his voice at them. Not unlike a bunch of kids being deeply hurt and saddened by the fact they made their parents hate them.
  • Three-Point Landing: Pulls this off after being thrown by the Metal Masked Assassin out of a multi-story hospital in "The Revengencers".
  • Token Good Teammate: Well, "good" is a bit extreme, as he's still very much amoral, but he has a far better-developed sense of right and wrong and a deeper understanding of consequences than any individual member of Dethklok. Many episodes involve him futilely trying to explain to Dethklok that they really should try to think about their actions or the people who have been hurt by them, or do damage control for their latest stunt. In general, his own cruelty tends to be steeped in Pragmatic Villainy rather than the pure psychotic hedonism of his clients. Best summarized in "Doublebookedklok", where his need to keep the band's record sales afloat leads him to facilitating the aversion of a world war.
  • Tranquil Fury: In "Doublebookedklok", he is incredibly livid when he finds out about the band's latest mishap. This actually terrifies the band enough that the water on their jacuzzi turns yellow.
Charles: Did you... book a gig... in Syria... without telling me?
Murderface: Why are you yelling at us?!
  • Undying Loyalty: To Dethklok. He even told his new assistant that he considers working with them worth dying for.
  • The Unfettered: While often Played for Laughs, he's willing to engage in highly unsavory and outright brutal courses of action to ensure that Dethklok is safe physically, emotionally and financially.

    Dick Knubbler

Dick "Magic Ears" Knubbler

Voiced by: Brendon Small
"Like I said, boys, when the label hears this, they're literally gonna shit fish. Literally."

Dethklok's former producer and current sound engineer. Originally a mole for the Tribunal, he defects due to the power of Dethklok's music and becomes a semi-capable employee.

  • Artificial Limbs: His robotic eyes.
  • Boxed Crook: He was facing many years in prison for tax evasion, disfiguring a co-worker's face with acid, and soliciting prostitution and drugs. The Tribunal offered to erase his criminal record if he spied on Dethklok for them as their sound engineer. Considering how he ended up working for Dethklok for real, it's safe to assume that Dethklok ended up clearing said record.
  • Eye Scream: At the end of "Dethwater", while trying to escape a giant mutant seahorse, he resurfaces his sub too quickly. This makes his eyes literally explode. He receives his robot eyes afterward.
  • Go Out with a Smile: Gives Nathan one last wry smirk before being obliterated by missiles in Army Of The Doomstar.
  • Groin Attack: By Abigail at the end of "Writersklok" when he tries to give her a hug after re-hiring him.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Originally a mole for the Tribunal sent in to monitor Dethklok's album recordings. At the end of "Dethwater", he renounces the Tribunal, as the power of metal has converted him.
  • Hollywood Cyborg: Has a pair of futuristic robot eyes to help him see.
  • I'm Standing Right Here:
Charles: All right, moving on, your new producer should be here any minute.
Pickles: Yeah okay, what's his name?
Knubbler: I'm still here in the room!
  • Monochromatic Eyes: Green in their default state...
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Of record producer Phil Spector.
  • No One Could Survive That!: Usually, nobody could survive a quick change in air pressure, but he comes out of it with new robot eyes.
  • Taking the Bullet: In Army Of The Doomstar, he takes the missile barrage from the Tribunal's attack helicopters, while ensuring Dethklok is safely behind a forcefield.
  • Yes-Man: Has been a constant enabler of Dethklok's bad habits and laziness, which is a big reason why their albums take so long to produce.
Nathan Explosion: (halfheartedly) Falling down / hurt yourself / Really can hurt...really, can, really now...
Dick Knubbler: That "falling down" stuff was good... I mean, it's good enough.

    Johnathan Twinkletits

Dr. Johnathan Twinkletits

Voiced by: Brendon Small
"Hey, I've got an idea. Let's rock talk. [...] Come on. Don't you want to get in touch with, you know, your inner dude?"

A wacko band therapist hired to help Dethklok get along.

  • Accent Upon The Wrong Syllable: His name is pronounced "Twink-LET-its" rather than Twinkle Tits.
  • Artificial Limbs / Hollywood Cyborg: Gains some prosthetic, high-tech limbs after being ripped apart by wolves.
  • Ax-Crazy: When his old band, "The Amazelingtons" kicked him out, he snapped and killed all of his ex-bandmates. He tried to do the same to Dethklok when they tried to fire him.
  • Back for the Finale: He appears as a member of the army of Dethklok's fans and friends alongside Charles, Jean-Pierre and others to give Dethklok some much needed backup against the Tribunal's forces.
  • Banana Peel: His banana stickers.
  • Comically Small Bribe: He is able to gain control over the band through giving them banana stickers. This ends once they buy banana stickers of their own.
Nathan: We realized that we can just buy emotional validation.
  • Destination Defenestration: The result of slipping on said banana stickers.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Of performance coach Phil Towle and producer Bob Rock.
  • Heel–Face Turn: He was antagonistic in his first appearance, psychologically controlling Dethklok through his banana stickers to let him into their band and trying to murder them when they attempt to fire him. He's far more genuinely helpful and supportive of the band in later appearances. Like Knubbler, his survival after body mutilation and cybernetic prosthetic replacements may have solidified his loyalty to Dethklok.
  • Guyliner: Sports this look after being Dethklok's band therapist for while, indicating that he legitimately sees himself as a part of their band now. He continues to look this way in later appearances where he's content to only be a therapist for Dethklok.
  • Implausible Deniability:
Skwisgaar: You slapped at my face.
    Twinkletits (quickly): No I didn't!
  • In with the In Crowd: Used his banana stickers to worm his way in the band, but it didn't last long.
  • No One Could Survive That!: Fell out of a window many stories up and then attacked by yard wolves. Survived with prosthetic limbs and a more electronic sounding voice.
  • The Pen Is Mightier: Murdered his ex-band mates with a pen. Tried to do the same to Dethklok.
  • The Shrink: Subverted, while he definitely fits as the harmful example of this trope (at first), he actually helps Dethklok especially in his later appearances.

    Abigail Remeltindtdrinc

Abigail Remeltindtdrinc

Voiced by: Janeane Garofalo (Season 4), Raya Yarbrough (DSR and AOTD)
"Nathan, you guys are burnt out, and deep down, you’re worried that you don’t have anything left to say."

A music engineer sent by Crystal Mountain Records after the firing of Dick Knubbler, taking over his role as Dethklok's new producer.

  • Backstab: Gets backstabbed through the stomach by one of the Revengencers during their ambush at Roy Cornickelson's funeral in "Church of the Black Klok". Fortunately, she survives.
  • The Big Damn Kiss: With Nathan at Doomstar's conclusion.
  • Crucified Hero Shot: She gets crucified upside-down along with Toki when Dethklok finally finds them near the brink of death.
  • Damsel in Distress: Kidnapped by Magnus Hammersmith in "The Doomstar Requiem" to be used as bait to lure in Dethklok.
  • Deadpan Snarker: At times. Understandably so, when you’re relatively "normal" and working with Dethklok.
Murderface: Hey! What do you say you just leave the creative stuff up to us and (shoos her away) go fetch us some drinks, sweetheart?
Abigail: How about you fetch them? You're the bass player.
  • Dude Magnet: She gets hit on by Knubbler in her introductory episode, gets propositioned by Dethklok in "Going Downklok", and later finds herself in a love triangle between Nathan and Pickles.
  • Lady in a Power Suit: Wears a business suit and usually doesn't take shit from anyone.
  • Love Triangle: Though all of Dethklok proposition her during "Going Downklok", it's Pickles and Nathan who are in direct competition for her. Nathan "wins", but only after her vibrator's battery runs out. Unfortunately, even though she wasn't looking for anything more than that, this eventually leads to Pickles quitting Dethklok anyway because it was about Nathan's selfishness. Abigail was mostly irrelevant.
  • Lyrical Dissonance: Her soft, gentle lullaby to Toki in "The Doomstar Requiem" is about how they'll be viciously tortured by the Revengencers before being butchered and likely cannibalized, but that he should just go to his Happy Place and forget that for a while.
  • No One Could Survive That!: She gets brutally backstabbed through the abdomen along with Toki in the fourth season finale. There was a lot of guessing on the fans' part as to her fate, but luckily both of them make it.
  • Only Sane Employee: Well, as sane as they get in this show, arguably taking even less shit than Offdensen.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: From her debut she was known for being business-oriented, but largely a laid back and kind of fun person. Then Nathan started to act like there was something serious between them despite the fact that she was clearly not interested at the time. She revoked her friendliness privileges very quickly after that. Not that it helped.
  • Put on a Bus: Only appears in Army of The Doomstar to cut ties with Nathan having been particularly traumatized from the events of Requiem. Her fate in the Metalocalypse being unknown.
  • Red Baron: "The Record Cleaner", according to the Tribunal. Not only is she known for her extremely successful track record, but she's also known to break up bands due to them not being able to handle her unorthodox methods.
  • Smooch of Victory: Passionately kisses Nathan after being rescued by him at the very end of "The Doomstar Requiem".
  • Smurfette Principle: She is the only notable and recurring female employee of Dethklok, barring female Klokateers.
  • Straight Man: She's another one for Dethklok right after Charles.
  • Yoko Ohno: It's even foreshadowed in the Tribunal segment during "Writersklok". She's the (completely unintentional) wedge that drives Pickles and Nathan apart, leading to Pickles quitting Dethklok.

“I would rather have my brain scooped out with a melon-baller than to miss the opportunity to deliver the various cheese snacks to my beloved Dethklok.”

Band chef. Despite helicopter rotor mutilation and patchwork reassembling by Dethklok, he's still an expert chef.

    Klokateers

Klokateers

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/klokkateer.jpg
Klokateer 421

The band's expendable, numerous bodyguards and general workhorses.

  • Battle Butler: The Klokateers serve as roadies, bodyguards, enforcers, and personal servants to Dethklok.
  • Bodyguarding a Badass: The Klokateers, already badass themselves, serve as servants, enforcers, and protectors to Dethklok, whose members are talented musicians and world-wide celebrities and also probably godlike beings with hidden power and the chosen ones as predicted by the Church of the Black Klok. Of course, they're largely inept in most matters outside of music so having an army of fanatically loyal roadies mostly help keep them from dealing with the worst of their consequences.
  • Faceless Goons: The hoods never come off. It's a part of their identity being erased.
  • Happiness in Slavery: Paid a pittance. Live in diseased squalor. Likely to die within a day. Totally loyal to Dethklok.
  • Image Song: "The Gears", encapsulating everything about the Klokateers: Their Training from Hell, their Undying Loyalty, and of course the branding of their titular Slave Brand, "The Gear". While part of the song was played within the show in the episode "Dethsources" as part of the Klokateers' "Branding Ceremony", the full studio version was later released as part of "Dethalbum II".
  • In the Hood: They're always seen wearing black executioners hoods.
  • Malevolent Masked Men: And women. Despite this, they all work for the good guys (who all have a loose definition of "good").
  • Mauve Shirt: The midget.
  • Mooks: Their sole purpose.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: No. 216. For a small person, he managed to take out and kill a normal grown man who is actually a Tribunal assassin disguised as a Klokateer and the brother of the Metal Masked Assassin, and is capable of handling firearms. He earned his diamond-encrusted, titanium-based codpiece.
  • Red Shirt Army: The first season finale is a good example at how well-equipped and prepared they are to fight as a brigade.
  • The Roadie: Their main duties involve doing the background work for concerts as well as serving as their personal (or more specifically Charles') goonsquad.
  • Slave Brand: The final step of every Klokateer in-training is to have a Dethklok emblem, called a "Gear", branded onto the back of their neck. Due to Happiness in Slavery being in effect, The Gear is a rare example of a slave brand being treated with pride.
  • The Spartan Way: The first step of their training is to have all the recruits pair off, then fight their partner to the death with their bare fists.
  • Training from Hell: Everybody who volunteers to become a Klokateer must pass an extremely difficult and dangerous training program before being initiated. In fact, when a raw recruit arrives at Mordhaus for their training, their first trial is to kill the person standing next to them.
  • Undying Loyalty: Every Klokateer is willing to give their own life in service to Dethklok. The aforementioned initiation song even includes the line "we fear not our mortality."
    • One even swallowed a suicide pill rather than reveal anything to his torturer, the Metal Masked Assassin.
  • Would Hurt a Child: They kidnap, torture and imprison a teenager just because he illegally downloaded Dethklok's music.
  • You Are Number 6: The Klokateers with more prominent roles are named after numbers.

"It's me, Facebones!"

The band mascot.

Dethklok's Families

    In General
The bane of Dethklok's existence (well, most of them, anyway).
  • Abusive Parents: All of Dethklok's parents are this to some degree, with some being more abusive than others. Even Murderface's father, who killed himself before he could inflict any physical or verbal harm on him, traumatized his son by committing chainsaw Murder-Suicide in front of him as a baby, something that still affects Murderface years later.
    • Subverted with Nathan's parents, however; despite Oscar claiming to resent Nathan for making him give up drinking to raise him, and Rose being a little too motherly, Nathan clearly cares for them on some level.
  • Alcohol-Induced Idiocy: Applies to the mothers and grandmother only.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Inverted. The parents (and grandparent) call out Dethklok instead in "Dethfam" when the band refuses to do a death metal album with them, thinking that their families aren't capable of being brutal like them.
    • Played straight in Season 4 with Molly when she ends up on the receiving end of this trope by her younger son, Pickles, in "Motherklok".

    Oscar and Rose Explosion

Oscar and Rose Explosion

Rose on the left, Oscar on the right

Nathan's parents. Unlike the rest of the band, Nathan has a very friendly relationship with them, especially his dad.
  • Abusive Parents: Subverted. They are actually very good parents to Nathan overall, which resulted in him being more emotionally and socially adjusted compared to his bandmates.
    • Still, Rose tends to mother Nathan a little too much and once screamed at him for ruining her vagina (though in context, it's meant to tell him and the rest of the band off for thinking that their families don't know how to be brutal like them).
    • Meanwhile, Oscar resents Nathan for making him give up his drinking to raise him, though they later patch things up thanks to Explosion Hot Sauce in "Skwisklok". Come by "Fatherklok," Nathan openly states that he loves his dad and that his dad is "f**king awesome".
  • Good Parents: To Nathan, in a stark contrast to the parents of his bandmates. Oscar is especially noteworthy when compared to the other fathers who are either emotionally abusive (Calvert), physically abusive (Aslaug), absent (Skwisgaar's father), or dead (Murderface's father). Nathan must have loved his dad very much to openly state, in front of his bandmates, that he loves him and they hang out together a lot.
  • Hartman Hips: Rose, though not in a flattering way.
  • In the Blood: Oscar has an impressive pair of lungs and a growling voice, though not to the extent of his son.
  • My Beloved Smother: Rose, to her son Nathan's frequent annoyance.
  • Parents as People: Rose can be embarrassing and a little too motherly, while Oscar, if he's to be believed, resented Nathan for making him give up his drinking to raise him. However, they genuinely care for their son, and while Nathan openly expresses hatred of his parents, it becomes apparent that he does it out of embarrassment and awkwardness towards them and loves them in return on some level; a flashback montage shows Nathan and Oscar enjoying some father-son activities. It's rather notable compared to other parents and families seen in the show.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Facially, Nathan closely resembles his mother more than his father, although he's pretty close to Oscar in body-type.

    Thunderbolt and Stella Murderface

Thunderbolt on the left, Stella on the right
Voiced by: Tommy Blacha (Stella)
Murderface's grandparents, who raised him after the brutal Murder-Suicide of his parents.
  • All Part of the Show: The band adds Thunderbolt's his Madness Mantra to their family song.
  • And I Must Scream: Thunderbolt was unable to speak until he got an advanced wheelchair that allowed him to communicate. Once he has it, he begs for death.
  • Death Seeker: Thunderbolt, because his body was failing him. He got his wish second season.
  • Drives Like Crazy: Stella, on a mobility scooter of all things. Ironically, she's the complete opposite when it comes to driving an actual car.
  • Gonk: Stella.
  • Gruesome Grandparent: Stella in particular has been shown to be abusive towards Murderface, such as pepper-spraying him at one point.
  • Madness Mantra: Thunderbolt uses his new wheelchair's screen to say "KILL_ME_KILL_ME_KILL_ME...".
  • The Nose Knows: Stella apparently has a keen sense of smell, being able to sniff out the booze locked away by Dethklok in "Dethmas".
  • Pet the Dog: Stella at least has the decency to be genuinely grateful when Murderface buys Thunderbolt a wheelchair so she doesn't have to drag him around anymore.
Stella: Oh William, you're going to go to heaven for this!
Murderface: I'd rather die than go to heaven.
  • Robo Speak: Thunderbolt, once Murderface buys him a new wheelchair with an eye-controlled computer for communicating.

    Calvert, Molly and Seth

Calvert, Molly and Seth

From left to right: Calvert, Molly, and Seth
Voiced by: Matt Pike (Calvert), Laraine Newman (Molly), and Brendon Small (Seth)

Pickles's family. Calvert and Molly are his parents, while Seth is his older brother.

  • Abusive Parents: Pickles constantly has to play "Well Done, Son" Guy to his parents, who favor Seth, Pickles' manipulative con-man of a brother. Calvert went as far as to have told Pickles that he "...belongs in a garbage can" when out of their home he was kicked out of their home as a teen. In "Dethwedding", they blatantly display their favoritism of Seth to Pickles in front of his friends when they visit his home in Tomahawk. It's also possible that all members of Pickles' family subjected him to mental and physical abuse as well.
  • Big Brother Bully: Seth was certainly this to Pickles, as he wrongfully blamed him for setting their father's garage on fire and kept mooching off of him by emotionally blackmailing him for money.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: A male example in Seth.
  • Cluster F-Bomb: Seth, best exemplified by this exchange below in "Dethwedding":
Seth: (whispering) Feels good, doesn't it? Fucking hugging your own brother. Being close to this fucking face like this. You got a couple of bones to fucking procure some fucking guys? I meant to restock the mini fridge. You know, run out of time.
Pickles: Whoa, uh, yeah, here's, uh...
Seth: Give me two, you know, five hundie. You know, maybe, you know, I don't want to sell this short, you hear? (stops whispering) Look at fucking Dethklok in my fucking house room! Ha! Fucking Mitch and Bobby aren't gonna fucking believe this. Fucking excited about you guys throwing me a bachelor party! Fuck! Oh, and by the way, this is little Amber, the love of my fucking heart.
  • Con Man: Seth.
  • Financial Abuse: Seth frequently mooches off of Pickles by pretending to act brotherly before emotionally blackmailing him into giving up a million dollars or so.
  • Greed: A defining character trait of Seth. All he seems to care about is Pickles' money. Nathan himself refers to him as a "weird greedy dick".
  • Green-Eyed Monster: The Tribunal theorizes that Molly may feel threatened by Pickles' massive success and that this is the reason why she never acknowledges his accomplishments.
  • Hate Sink: While several characters including Pickles' own parents are pretty nasty and unpleasant, Seth is just about the most detestable character in the show. He puts on a superficial cool big brother act, but is actually domineering, condescending, and threatening towards Pickles is constantly trying to convince him to give him money. He's explicitly described by the Tribunal as a pathetic loser and yet he's the one who gets love and praise from his parents and not the far more hardworking and successful Pickles. It is immensely satisfying anytime Pickles attacks him and absolutely aggravating that he still manages to be a Karma Houdini.
    • What really cements him as this is that he's the sole reason Pickles became an alcoholic. When Pickles was 6, Seth burned down the garage and blamed it on Pickles. When Pickles tries to forgive him for this years later as part of Rehab, Seth callously asks for 5 million dollars and then he'll accept forgiveness.
  • Hypocrite: Molly's behavior towards both of Pickles's business decisions in "Motherklok". It gets to the point where Pickles snaps and rightly calls her out on this.
  • Jerkass:
    • Seth, to the point he makes everyone in the show look like saints in comparison.
    • Pickles' parents aren't much better. Molly disapproves of everything Pickles does while doting over Seth, and Calvert told his own son that he "belongs in a garbage can".
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: Seth, in spades.
  • Karma Houdini:
    • Again, Seth. Every time he's thrown into karma's path, he twists it to his advantage.
    • Molly and Calvert can also be considered as Karma Houdinis in regards to their abuse of Pickles. Until Molly finally gains some comeuppance via a very satisfying Calling the Old Man Out from Pickles himself in "Motherklok".
  • Minnesota Nice: Defied; They're exceptionally unpleasant people who exemplify the worst of Midwestern culture (obsession with cultural norms, alcoholism).
  • N.G.O. Superpower: Seth, who as the president of Dethklok's fan club in Sydney, Australia, can pull resources he needs to protect him and his family from the Revengencers, even at the risk of the safety of the city.
  • Only One Name: The family name has yet to be mentioned.
  • Parental Favoritism: Seth is the favored child despite being an ex-con who lives above their garage while Pickles is the most successful drummer in the world.
  • Pretty Freeloaders: Seth.
  • Retcon: In an early episode, Seth calls Pickles his older brother. The rest of the series makes it clear Seth is the eldest.
  • Shared Family Quirks: Every member of the family has alcoholic tendencies. Seth and Pickles also have the exact same mischievous smirk.
  • The Unintelligible: Seth has an even stronger Minnesota accent than Pickles to such an extent that what he's saying can barely register.

    Serveta Skwigelf

Serveta Skwigelf

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/serveta.jpg
Voiced by: Laraine Newman

Skwisgaar's absolute whore of a mother, seemingly sustained by having sex as much as possible.

  • Abusive Parents: To say she is a promiscuous slut would be an insult to promiscuous sluts everywhere. She was extremely emotionally neglectful to Skwisgaar growing up, and she constantly had sex with complete strangers knowing that Skwisgaar would see, but made absolutely no effort in shielding her son (considering how traumatizing sex can be to a child's mindset). Sure, her son became a world-famous guitarist because of it, but he also became an Attention Whore, developed deep-seated psychological issues regarding his mother and the absence of his biological father, and gained her rampant promiscuity.
  • Alliterative Name: Serveta Skwigelf.
  • Dumb Blonde: Just like her son, unfortunately.
  • Gag Lips: Has prominent lips compared to the other females in this show.
  • Harmful to Minors: Serveta inflicted this trope on Skwisgaar many times by constantly having sex in places where he can see and hear her. It messed up his son and influenced him to act the same way, but it's implied he's not really happy about it, either.
  • I Was Quite a Looker: Serveta was the first-place winner of the Miss Sweden pageant in 1956. Her looks are now ruined by time and (so she claims) her pregnancy with Skwisgaar.
  • Impossibly-Low Neckline: Seriously, just look at her dress.
  • Lady in Red: An extremely promiscuous lady who always wears a strapless, low-cut red dress.
  • The Narcissist: Seems to be the case as she has lots of pictures of herself in her prime hanging around her house, but only one picture of Skwisgaar.
  • Nipple and Dimed: Though we never actually see them (thankfully), she apparently never wears a bra because they are always visible underneath her dress.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: She is based on Ingrid Goude, the real-life winner of 1956 Miss Sweden.
  • Really Gets Around: Extra emphasis on "really". To the point that when Skwisgaar is searching for his father, Skwisgaar seems completely reasonable in the exchange below.
    Skwisgaar: Anythings yet?
Klokateer: Not yet, sire. Several thousand men have come forward claiming to be your father.
    Skwisgaar: Several thousgand?
Klokateer: They all claim to have had sex with your mother, Serveta. In a period of a month. This seems impossible.
Skwisgaar: Ugh... You don't know my moms.
  • Shared Family Quirks: Apparently Serveta is where Skwisgaar got his promiscuity from.
  • Shrine to Self: Her house in Sweden is full of photos of herself... and a single picture of a young Skwisgaar.
  • Silver Vixen: She's still sexually active at her age, and Murderface has expressed attraction towards her. She's also a grandma to tons of illegitimate kids.
  • Spell My Name With An S: A clip from Adult Swim's Youtube channel has her name spelled as Surfetta.
  • You No Take Candle: Justified. Much like her son, she talks like this because English is not her native language.

    Aslaug and Anja Wartooth

Aslaug and Anja Wartooth

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tokisparents.jpg
Left to right: Anja, Toki, Aslaug
Toki's strictly religious parents, who are part of a cult-like religion that involves taking vows of silence and inflicting as much disciplinary action as possible.
  • Abusive Parents: Aslaug, who was apparently a reverend, would regularly abuse and treat Toki cruelly. The level of physical and emotional abuse Toki endured from him was ridiculous, yet Toki loved his father enough to try to give him his dying wish. Toki also has at least one memory of his mother, Anja, glaring at him before slapping him across the face so it's very likely she shares some portion of the blame for Toki's horrible childhood. This aspect of her character seems to be completely gone after her husband's death, as she starts enjoying life a little more in "Dethmas" after Aslaug's death while Toki simply treats her with the same embarrassed disdain the other bandmates do to their mothers including Nathan who's mother isn't abusive to him in the slightest.
  • Asshole Victim: Aslaug, after he drowns in a frozen lake in Season 2. Given what he did to Toki during his entire childhood, it's very deserved. Even Anja, his own wife, didn't mourn him, and indulged in all kinds of activities with the Dethklok mothers that Aslaug would've been appalled at once he's dead.
  • Death Glare: Both... to Toki... constantly.
  • The Dreaded: Their influence on Toki was so horrible that when Dethklok's families are introduced in "Dethfam", Toki spends most of the episode mute and catatonic in shock just by his parents being there.
    • Downplayed if not entirely averted regarding just his mother. He has no problem talking to her in a phone call in "Dethdad". In "Dethmas", he's worried that she and the other Dethklok mothers will ruin their Christmas but is far less terrified of her now. Anja herself comes across as far more cheerful and less intimidating in said episode.
  • Hidden Depths: When Anja reappears in "Dethmas", she's shown smiling excitedly at Rose Explosion's suggestion of giving her a makeover, and she gets drunk with the other Dethklok mothers and has sexual trysts with them. This occurs after Aslaug dies, so it seems that Toki wasn't the only one subjected to abuse...
  • Humiliation Conga: Aslaug, minutes before he died. Some would say he deserved it for how he treated Toki.
  • Irony: Their first apperance has Cardinal Ravenwood ranting that Aslaug is destined to kill his son. Instead, it was the other way around.
  • Karmic Death: Aslaug physically and emotionally abused Toki as a child. He drowns when Toki accidentally drops him in an icy lake.
  • Killed Off for Real: Aslaug.
  • Offing the Offspring: Their first appearance featured one of the Tribunal ranting that Aslaug was destined to kill his son, Toki. Averted; the inverse happened instead.
  • The Stoic: Both of them, to nightmarish degrees. The fact that they don't speak at all (save for when they screamed in "Dethfamily") makes them creepier. After Aslaug dies, Anja starts smiling and showing more emotions while she hangs out with the Dethklok mothers in "Dethmas".
  • The Voiceless: Both of them. Though averted in "Dethfamily" when they started screaming from the brutality of raising children.
