Main Characters

The titular "Mage" and "Demon Queen" of the series, Malori and Velverosa.
    In General
  • Dark and Troubled Past:
    • Malori's biological parents sold her into slavery to pay the local gangs' fees in a Wretched Hive of a town, and she would have been sold as a sex-slave / ritual parts if Velverosa hadn't torched their base to the ground and spared all the human slaves. She was eventually adopted, only to lose her adoptive father sometime before the start of the story.
    • Velverosa had parents who were largely absent from her life, one of her only friends being her beloved elven maid/caretaker, Fillonne. After Vel falls in love with a human who used and abused her powers, however, Fillonne is fired, Vel loses her friend and her innocence, now believing that humans and demons may never co-exist.
  • First Kiss: Finally happens in Episode 51 of Season 2.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Well, they're both girls, but Velverosa towers over most of the other characters in her human form. By comparison, Malori only reaches about her waist. She's small enough to sit comfortably in Vel's lap (which she does).
  • Interspecies Romance: While most prominent with Malori who considers Velverosa the only individual she's romantically interested in, Velverosa also finds herself much more attracted and caring of Malori than she would like to admit.
  • Mayfly–December Romance: Malori is barely an adult at 18 years old, while Vel is a seemingly-immortal demon who was grown before Mal was even born. Which is why she is fully supportive of a classmate's romantic interest in men (specifically, the human king) old enough to be his grandfather.
  • Relationship Upgrade: After 70 chapters while Malori still isn't sure how Queen Vel truly feels about her, she at least knows that she doesn't hate her as she falls asleep in Queen Vel's arms. By chapter 71, Malori is now an esteemed guest at the Demon Tower, and when she asks for a hug from Vel, she willingly gives it. By season 2, Mal is having tea and snacks with Velverosa, and the pleasure is quite obviously, unambiguously mutual.
  • Storm of Blades: Malori's lightning swords spell creates several energy swords that launch themselves at the target. Velverosa can throw a storm of dark energy spears at a target. Malori eventually admits that she copied Val's magic as best she could.
  • Super-Strength: Velverosa is shocked that Malori is strong enough to pick her up like it's nothing. Of course, Vel herself is still far stronger.
  • World's Strongest: Of the natives of their world, Malori is among the strongest humans with the King probably being the only one who might be stronger, and Vel uncontestedly the strongest Demon. Only people from other worlds are stronger than either of them.

    Malori Crowett
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/malori_3.jpg
Our Hero
A young magical prodigy who is madly in love with Demon Queen Velverosa. For tropes she shares with Cerik, see their folder below under "Cerik and Melathia".
  • Birthmark of Destiny: She was born with a Magic Crest, Demon Charmer, which passively makes demons at ease around her and when actively used becomes a Compelling Voice.
  • But Thou Must!: Before her final attempt to scale the Demon Tower, Malori asks Cerik to join her party, with a typical dialogue box you'd expect from an RPG, only consisting of yes and no. Except, the 'no' is crossed out and replaced with another 'yes'
  • Charm Person: Vel theorizes that Malori might be a demon charmer, which would explain why everyone in the tower loves her. Vel is worried, because even knowing that gives her no protection. She is, though Vel being the Demon Queen renders her at least resistant.
  • Child Prodigy: Malori has power way beyond what she should for a student who isn't actually a licensed adventurer yet. This is because a masochistic demon captured her and made her fry him with fire magic repeatedly just so he could get off on it. After two weeks of this, she was massively overpowered from all the experience gain. Cerik is the next highest level after her in the academy, and Malori is well above his level (60 to 89).
  • Combat Pragmatist: She's not against blowing up her own teammates if it gets in the way of her ultimate goal and using whatever other tools she has at her disposal.
  • Comedic Sociopathy: Deconstructed. Malori has no qualms about bringing parties into the tower to be killed just to get her to the top floor. She's also willing to fry them herself if there's any chance they'd harm Velverosa. Cerik eventually calls her out on the fact that she's casually and unapologetically hurting people (including her friends) for purely selfish motives, prompting a Heel Realization.
  • Compelling Voice: Demon Charmer allows her to control demons actions through her words.
  • Disappeared Dad: Her father, Mr. Crowett, has already passed away by the time the story starts and is only ever seen in flashbacks. Adoptive father, if you want to split hairs.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Even fighting Velverosa, Malori is distracted by her graceful movements. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Malori is stunned when Velverosa breaks out of an ice prison, which coincidentally has her flexing her impressive arm muscles and showing off her chiseled abs. In general, Velverosa's sex appeal and Malori's all-encompassing attraction to her distracts her.
  • Friendly Enemy: Malori has ascended the Demon Tower so many times that the demon bosses below Queen Velverosa just let her through, and in fact support her pursuit of their queen's heart! Said queen is not pleased at this.
  • Happily Adopted: Marcus Crowett treated her quite well while he was still alive, from picking her up when she was just an abandoned, injured, and traumatized former slave on the roadside to helping her develop into the cheerful, warm girl she is today.
  • Having a Blast: The spell she is most proficient with is Explosion.
  • Hazy-Feel Turn: Malori joins the demon side later on. It's not a shift in her morality, just a realization that she can do more good (and be closer to Vel) if she works with them.
  • Heel Realization: After her extremely jerky behavior towards just about everyone, Malori realizes that she's been so focused on Vel that she treated her best friend Cedric, her demon friends, and Vel herself abominably and goes into a 10-Minute Retirement.
  • Hidden Depths: She's a very talented cook.
  • Idiot Hair: Malori has it and it doubles as Expressive Hair.
  • It's All About Me: She completely disregards the greater war between humans and demons and has no qualms about gunning down even her own comrades, because she wants to bang the Demon Queen. Not only that, but said queen has repeatedly and unambiguously rejected her advances in the past. Eventually she realizes that not only is she treating her allies horribly, she's also treating Velverosa as a prize to be won instead of considering her feelings on the matter. She makes a point of moderating this behavior going forward but still struggles with it, such as when she admits to herself that her aiding the demon army is partially motivated by her desire to be praised by Vel.
  • Made a Slave: Her biological parents sold her to slavery early in her childhood.
  • Magic Knight: While Malori is a mage by class, by book 2, she's learned to use buff spells and sword-crafting magic (the latter copied from Queen Vel) to fight in melee as well.
  • Neutral No Longer: At first, Malori wants to not take sides, but to build peace between humans and demons. Through Character Development, she realizes that that just won't work, and sides with the demons, accepting that peace is going to require a little violence.
  • Out with a Bang: Once Maroni finally beds Vel, Vel is so much more powerful than Maroni that Vel ends up accidentally killing her. Thankfully Death Is a Slap on the Wrist in their world. Part of the timeskip is Maroni training to become more powerful so she can avert this trope, which succeeds with flying colors.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Once she returns to Folstina after formally teaming up with the demon side, she ends up wiping out first a group of knights, then sending an entire force of adventurers into their coffins.
  • Playing with Fire: Fire magic is Malori's specialty.
  • Power Incontinence: Malori has excellent control over her highly destructive fire magic powers. Her Magic Crest, not so much, as failing to stop a human raid on a demon village causes her to use her Demon Charmer powers.
  • Precocious Crush: Malori's been kissing wanted posters of Velverosa at least since she was seven.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: In Malori's written words, her sexuality is "Uhh IDK I only like Queen Vel." When she encounters Vel disguised as a human, she can't initially understand why she's reacting like she is when she only does so with Vel, and even says that she doesn't think that she can love anyone but her.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Malori's main character trait for most of season 1. Her friend Cerik tries to call her out on it but she doesn't care, at least not until later in the story when things take a dramatic turn.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Her penchant for Comedic Sociopathy comes at heavy costs. Her destructive and friendly fire tendencies eventually leave her with not enough money to resurrect after Vel kills her again, leaving Cerik to pay out of his pocket and chew her out for her behaviour and attitude towards her fellow man.
  • Unscrupulous Hero: Malori's goals range from perfectly acceptable (marrying Vel) to laudable (trying to stop the war between humans and demons). Her ethics in pursuing those goals are initially nonexistent, and her behavior includes stalking Vel and teamkilling; the latter being so bad that even Vel goes off on her for it. She starts shaping up later.
  • Uncertified Expert: Malori is way more powerful than most professional adventurers she meets, but hasn't actually graduated from the academy yet.

    Velverosa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/velverosa.jpg
The Demon Queen
The leader of all demons, on a campaign to end the war between humans and demons—if her affections for Malori don't get in the way, at least.
  • Amazonian Beauty: She's drawn noticeably more toned than other women in the strip, and is also one of the tallest members of the cast while still being an absolute bombshell.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: She is the leader of the demons by virtue of being the strongest of them all.
  • Blood Knight: According to Malori in one panel, she loves fighting.
  • Combat Stilettos: Velverosa wears high heels and has no trouble fighting in them.
  • Contractual Boss Immunity: As Demon Queen, Velverosa is immune to all status effects.
  • Covered in Scars: After losing a fight to Axel using a sword that stops Demons from using healing spells and items, Velverosa ends up woth a lot of scars once the wounds have healed. She considers them a sign of honor, and Malori thinks it's hot.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: By Season 2, Velverosa has gradually become more and more accepting of her romantic feelings towards Malori and has begun openly speaking about them and showing physical affection, consciously or not.
  • Does Not Know Her Own Strength: When Vel and Maroni finally do the deed, Velverosa is so much stronger than Maroni that she ends up accidentally killing her.
  • Femme Fatalons: She's got very long fingernails. They're equally fake, too.
  • Hikikomori: When she goes to a human village, she realizes that she's become a shut-in in the demon tower and has great difficulty getting out and meeting people.
  • In Vino Veritas: Velverosa is much more open about her feelings and affections towards Malori when she is extremely drunk on wine.
  • Lethal Chef: Revealed in a stat window. Her "cooking" skill is only 10 (for comparison, her Battle skill is 200) on a scale where 5 is absolutely useless.
  • Magic Knight: Velverosa has incredible physical strength and can also craft spears and swords out of magic.
  • Navel-Deep Neckline: In S2, EP 20, Malori is tied up and brought before Velverosa, who turns out to be wearing a nightgown that's open nearly to her hips.
  • Noble Demon: In spite of all the mythology and terror attached to her name and position, Velverosa does not engage in wanton cruelty or brutality to instill fear in her enemies and is quite willing to go for less-violent solutions if it means unnecessary bloodshed is avoided. She also has an ironclad sense of honor, calling Malori out for not having the same and team-killing her own hirelings just to get into her pants. She later questions whether she herself is doing the right thing using Malori for her mana.
  • Number of the Beast: She's a Demon Queen whose MAG stat is 666.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Vel's demon form is that of a gigantic black dragon; as the term "demon" is more of a general classification rather than a specific species, dragons appear to be a rare, powerful variant.
  • Parental Neglect: Velverosa's parents were constantly busy with their duties, saddling her with the goal of becoming Demon Queen in childhood, but leaving all the love, support, and training to their staff.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Vel appears to be in her twenties, but is over 200.
  • Really Gets Around: Between her lover's betrayal and meeting Malori, Velverosa had a period where she took a new partner whenever she felt the urge, dominating them and discarding them to avoid getting attached.
  • Sentimental Drunk: Vel gets very handsy while drunk, and at one point even giggles and says Malori is acting like her wife.
  • She Is Not My Girlfriend: Velverosa insists Malori means nothing to her... while her tail is visibly wagging. Her underlings just want her to finally admit her attraction. She also feels a sudden, intense, inexplicable bout of depression when Malori decides to give up on her, and goes to great lengths and risks to the tower to try and get her back when it seems she's returned.
  • Stripperiffic: Vel's standard outfit looks like leather BDSM gear. Strangely enough, she's rather prudish compared to Malori or Melathia.
  • Technical Virgin: Velverosa believes that since she has always been the dominant one in every relationship she's ever been in, that means she's still "pure." The narration points out that this is obviously untrue.
  • Tsundere: She is very bad at admitting her feelings towards Malori, though to be fair, their species are presently at war with each other and comfortable with committing all manner of atrocities, up to consuming each other for food. Her generals see through it easily and Cerik even refers to her as one In-Universe.
  • When You Coming Home, Dad?: As mentioned under Parental Neglect, Velverosa's parents were oftentimes too busy with their official duties that constantly took them to everywhere in their domain, being home for only brief periods of time.
  • Wound That Will Not Heal: Near the tail end of season 2, Axel hits her with a weapon that creates wounds resistant to magical healing.
  • Would Not Shoot a Civilian: When she attacked a village full of slavers, Vel cut young Malori's chains and let her live, because she was a slave and a child and not one of those who were responsible for enslaving demons.

Cerik and Melathia

Malori and Velverosa's closest friends/subordinates, Cerik and Melathia.
    Shared by Malori and Cerik
  • The Ace: Malori and Cerik are the Academy's two most high-leveled students, in that order.
  • Childhood Friends: The two of them have been friends since they were young children, having met due to their fathers' friendship and wanting to become adventurers together for their own reasons.
  • Too Kinky to Torture:
    • Malori is perfectly fine being exploded as long as it's Velverosa doing it. This also extends to being harmed by her in more conventional, physical ways, as the first thing she thinks of when an adventurer punches her in the stomach is how Vel hits harder and is way more enjoyable to be hurt by. Other notable incidents include her... interesting reaction to being halfway inside dragon-form Vel's mouth and at risk of being bitten in half or eaten alive, and responding to an unquestionably angry Vel strangling her with "Harder."
    • Cerik being an Iron Butt Monkey and the subject of abuse for more or less a decade aside, he's remarkably okay with Melathia constantly abusing, bullying, and demeaning him, along with not being too bothered by being chained to a wall in the Tower's dungeons. His only limit appears to be someone pinching his nipples (they're sensitive).
  • True Companions: As much as the Malori's antics frustrate Cerik and put him in harm's way, they have both been shown to care about each other, such as Malori making sure Cerik can safeguard the precious shed snakeskin he stole from Melathia's room and helping him turn it into the lamia stockings he's always dreamed about. They may frequently hate each other, and sometimes be the one that personally sent them to the Church in a coffin, but they care for each other like blood siblings.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: When push comes to shove, Malori and Cerik always have each other's backs. But most of the time, it's just pushing and shoving. Mostly lambasting each other's romantic preferences (with no small amount of irony, since they both have the hots for demons).

    Cerik Aldebrandt
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cerik.jpg
Malori's best friend since childhood, the two of them met because of their fathers, became adventurers to help each other with their Interspecies Romance aspirations, and haven't been separated since. Though he is oftentimes exasperated (and harmed) by Malori's antics, they remain close friends.
  • Cover-Blowing Superpower: The real reason he doesn't use anything but the worst equipment. As it turns out, having your Hero Skill activate and multiply your epuipment stats to insane levels is rather difficult to miss.
  • Hidden Depths: Cerik is a talented artist.
  • Interspecies Romance: He has a huge thing for Lamia and can't be happier to learn that the Demon General Melathia is one. This all stems from his getting kidnapped by lamia as a child and learning he has a constriction fetish and later, a desire to see them in specially designed stockings.
  • Iron Butt Monkey: As a Warrior by trade, he's very physically durable, which all works out for him as he's constantly injured over the course of the series for plot and comedy both. An example is Malori throwing a glass healing potion at his head, dealing him -1 HP when it shatters before the liquid dumps on him and heals him.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Effectively what happens when you combine I Am Not Left-Handed with an Item Amplifier ability you've kept hidden for the entire series. He uses it to deliver a Curb-Stomp Battle to the up-until-that-point untouchable Axel.
  • Shirtless Captives: He was subjected to this treatment in the Tower's dungeons in Season 2, Episode 37.
  • Trapped in Another World: It's implied that he may suffer from this since he calls Vel a "tsundere" (to Malori's confusion) and got rather nervous when the queen started talking about their Summon Everyman Hero ritual.
    • The truth is a bit more complicated, it turns out that the king's attempts to force the ritual ended up shoving the intended hero's consciousness into Cerik's body.
  • Walking Spoiler: Let's just say a late series twist changes a lot of context surrounding him and leave it at that.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Cerik gets rightfully pissed off after Malori deliberately gets him killed, but a heart to heart and a Heel Realization from Malori cuts off a Feud Episode before it can properly begin
  • Willfully Weak: He's not unskilled but his insistence on using lower-quality equipment (due to some desire to succeed only with his own skills) hampers him in combat compared to the more pragmatic Malori.
    • Turns out he has a specific reason for using lower-quality gear: Due to being a summoned hero, he has a special skill that activates when wearing higher-level gear.

    Melathia, The Seventh General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/melathia.jpg
Velverosa's best general and greatest shipper
Velverosa's right-hand demon, Melathia guards the floor just before the top of the tower and the most enthusiastic in helping Malori woo her. She is an aspiring romance author on the side though she rarely finds success in publishing due to the extremely kinky nature of much of her work.
  • Berserk Button: Her kind, caring, and considerate understanding towards Cerik and his special interest in Lamia in stockings instantly disappears the moment he reveals he stole one of her shed skins.
    Melathia: Why, you sonuvabitch.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She is by far one of the kindest, most compassionate, and openly affectionate of the cast. She is also second to Velverosa herself for a reason and you're best off not earning her ire lest you suffer a swift and painful death—if she doesn't Mind Probe you first, at least.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: As punishment for the romance advice she gave Malori and how disastrous the effect was, Vel had her clean the toilets of the Tower for 168 hours (a total of 1 week). For extra humiliation, a cut-in showed she was given a tiny brush that fits in her fingers, as well.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Except for serious moments and when she's in combat, Melathia's eyes are almost entirely squinted shut or otherwise unable to be seen for her glasses.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: She is this to Fenn. Fenn is very shy, withdrawn, and fearful (outside of combat), but is willing to kowtow to whatever Melathia asks of her and is violently protective of her superior.
  • Master of Illusion: Is a skilled user of illusion magic.
  • Mind Probe: She developed a spell specifically for gathering information out of, shall we say, unwilling and reluctant targets that she suspects have an agenda or ulterior motives.
  • Parental Substitute: To Fenn, who she acts as a mother figure to and regularly gives her physical affection, mainly in the form of head pats.
  • Scary Shiny Glasses: While her glasses more often than not emphasize her nerdy, dorky nature as a Yuri Fan, she is still an incredibly powerful, dangerous, and ruthless Demon General and gains these whenever she drops the niceties. For a specific incident, see Cerik revealing he stole one of her shed snake skins in Season 2, Episode 26.
  • Shipper on Deck: She is especially enthusiastic about getting the two leads together, to the point of writing fanfic about them.
  • Shrouded in Myth: As Fenn makes sure most adventurers never make it past her floor, and Melathia uses both illusion magic and is a ruthlessly efficient killer, her entry in the latest guides on the Demon Tower remain incomplete.
  • Snake People: She is a Lamia, specifically the Queen of her species.
  • Team Mom: She is this for the demons. Aside from defending the Tower from intruders, she's mainly concerned with trying to get Vel and Malori together. The author and her assistants nicknamed her "Titty Mom."
  • Third Eye: She has a Mind Probe spell that grants her a glowing third eye, enabling her to delve into people's minds to gather information and see if she's being lied to. It comes in the form of a glowing eye-shaped Power Tattoo.
  • Yuri Fan: Melathia writes yuri fanfic about Vel and Malori all the time, titled "Lilies in the Demon Tower."

Demons

    In General
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: A new Demon Lord is chosen when a Demon defeats the current Demon Lord in battle. If the Demon Lord is otherwise incapacitated or dead, a tournament is instead held.
  • Might Makes Right: The general belief of a Demon is that whoever is the most powerful is right, which is why the Demon Lords exist and why they continue to do so.

The Demon Tower

    In General
  • Punch-Clock Villain: None of the demons are particularly evil. They fight adventurers because that's what they're supposed to do. Well, and because they're rather put-out that humans keep attacking them for loot and experience.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: The higher up you go, the more powerful the Demons get. This applies to the Generals too.
  • Shipper on Deck: With the exception of Maurik who is just "Ambivalent", every single one of Vel’s generals wants her to hook up with Malori. Melathia is easily the most overt about it and while the others aren’t quite as extreme as her, they nonetheless still all offer their congratulations and approval assuming that Malori and Vel are dating now in chapter 71 (they technically aren't). Diannos went so far as to make sure they did not separate the two as they carried them back to the tower.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: Their job is to prevent adventurers from ascending any higher to the Demon Tower. The only exception is Malori whom they let pass as they know they'll be easily and don't want to waste either of their time or they only engage in friendly death-matches to see how much their skills have developed.

    Fenn, the Sixth General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2024_01_02_171236878.png
A Wolf Beastman, she is in charge of commanding the rest of her species in the service of the Demon Army.
  • Bad Boss: Played for Laughs, she seems a little too willing to risk attacking people on her side when she couldn't properly identify her enemies in an all out brawl.
  • Beast Man: She has wolf-like features and fights using her claws in a very primal, animalistic combat style.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Melathia saved her life when she was a child, which is why she's so devoted to her.
  • Berserk Button: Cerik is this to Fenn. Quite literally, in fact, as Cerik only made it past her when she threw the fight. According to Malori, Cerik's presence inflicts Fenn with the Berserk status effect, which causes her to focus down Cerik until he's dead.
  • Cassandra Truth: Fenn immediately clocked Cerik as a summoned Hero, but didn't know what she was supposed to be sensing and assumed she was reacting to Cerik being a pervert towards Melathia. Due to not actually knowing why Cerik was registering as a threat, nobody believes her.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Anyone attacking, threatening, or in Cerik's case, being ''highly inappropriate and perverted' towards Melathia sets her into a violent, murderous rage.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: She finds herself distracted and distressed by Cerik's muscular, bare chest while he's chained up in the Tower's dungeon.
  • Does Not Know Her Own Strength: She accidentally kills Cerik when he's locked up in a dungeon cell because she forgot that he didn't have any of his armor on, so a single slap from her was enough for a One-Hit Kill.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: She does this in Season 2, Episode 27 with a bottle of juice (it's clearly spelled on the glass) to cope with Melathia's hiring Cerik as her personal errand boy/humiliation slave/romance novel inspiration.
  • Drunk on Milk: As mentioned above in Drowning My Sorrows, she does this with juice. Granted, however, she is a beastman and could react to certain types of formulations like it were alcohol.
  • Shrinking Violet: She's very shy and timid with other demons but absolutely ruthless and brutal towards humans.
  • Spider-Sense: Her skill, "Canine Sense", acts like this though it's for potential long-term problems than immediate danger. She herself admits it's not perfectly reliable, however.
  • Straight Man: To Melathia when she is having a particularly... emotional moment over Malori and Velverosa. She is usually stuck commenting on how concerning and distressing her behavior is to other people.
  • Undying Loyalty: Towards Melathia. She's all too willing to intercept, destroy, and interrogate anyone she feels is a threat to her beloved superior, though it isn't always with their permission.

    Connoleth, the Fifth General
A humanoid horned and winged demon, she has a great interest in fashion and oftentimes ropes Malori into purchasing the latest trends in the human territories.
  • Blow You Away: Air magic seems to be her specialty.
  • The Fashionista: She has a great interest in dressing up and human fashion, getting Maloria to buy her the latest trends. She also tried (and failed) to give Velverosa a disguise when she tried leaving the Demon Tower in search of Malori.
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: Bat wings with spiked tips to complement her unquestionably being "Evil" (by the world's standards, at any rate).
  • Ojou Ringlets: Her hair is styled this way.

    Fhaust, the Fourth General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2024_01_03_172905468.png
Chief researcher of the Demon Tower, Fhaust is responsible for constructing and overseeing the various magical devices that power the facility.
  • Chained by Fashion: He wears an iron padlock on his collar.
  • Domino Mask: He's always seen wearing one, with a drop on one side that looks like a single tear (if he's actually crying, the tears flow underneath the mask). Whether his eyes are actually blank white irises or it's just part of the mask is unknown.
  • Mad Scientist: He leads magical research and development in the tower and was responsible for constructing and maintaining the Tower's secret weapon. He is also the one that advises Velverosa on matters such as using Malori's presence as a persistent source of mana to charge said weapon.

    Diannos, the Third General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2024_01_03_173848684.png
A reptilian general.
  • Lizard Folk: Whereas most demons have animal features and otherwise look humanoid, Diannos seems to be some sort of bipedal dinosaur demon, making him much more cartoonish than the rest of the cast.

    Maurik, the Second General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2024_01_04_214234808.png
A Beast Man general like Fenn. It’s revealed in Season 3, Episode 50 that he is a Vampire. He is notably very quiet, withdrawn, and ambivalent about Malori's attempts to flirt with Velverosa.
  • Beast Man: Like Fenn, he is a Beastman with lupine features such as ears. In Season 3, Episode 50 it is revealed that he is a Vampire.
  • Out of Focus: Perhaps fittingly for his assumed role as an assassin/ambush predator, he's rarely ever seen.

    Berkz, the First General
The very first boss, he is a large, brash, and muscular orc.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2024_01_03_173555630.png

  • Albinos Are Freaks: He was ostracized by the other orcs for having white skin.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Aside from having been beaten by Malori so many times he doesn't want to waste time and effort on a foregone conclusion, he's especially fond of her for complimenting him on his white skin than being prejudiced against him for it.
  • Black Eyes of Evil: He has black sclera and ominous, yellow eyes, fitting his role as the first of the major bosses of the tower.
  • Savage Spiked Weapons: His armament of choice is a giant, spiked metal club that's almost as large as he is.
  • Spikes of Villainy: Biological example with the spikes growing out of his shoulders. It's assumed they're to help fend off foes trying to grapple him as much as look intimidating as all get out.
  • Our Orcs Are Different: He has pale white skin, a wild mane of white hair, black spikes growing out of his shoulders, and a prominent pair of black bull horns on his head, along with being extremely large, muscular, and relying mostly on his brute strength in combat.

Demon Rebellion

A group of Demons who disagree with how Velverosa is running things. They cause a few issues throughout Season 2.

    Former Demon King Sepheron
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2024_01_01_225802405.png
The Demon King before Velverosa. He makes sporadic cameos in comedic flashbacks before appearing as a major antagonist at the start of Season 3.
  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: Creates a giant sword out of wind and cuts the roof off the Demon Tower with it. The one specifically designed to withstand Velverosa's attacks.
  • Benevolent Boss: The province he governed before becoming Demon King knew him as a kind and benevolent ruler, although Velverosa suspects he was just too lazy to actually abuse his power.
  • Bad Boss: However, his brief takeover of the demon tower goes poorly because he'd rather watch TV all day.
  • Blow You Away: Specializes in wind magic, and he's only just weaker than Velverosa.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Once Velverosa thoroughly trounces him for what is assumed to be the third time in a row, he not only relinquishes the title of Demon Lord back to her but joins her army as the leader of his own special ops unit.
  • Disney Death: During the final battle, Axel seemingly kills him with a sword that steals the souls of whoever it kills, letting them use the dead person's magic. Axel is then later shown using wind magic with the sword, which was Sepheron's specialty. We find out during the epilogue he actually survived and accidentally faked his death when he left to go watch anime. Go figure.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Briefly appears a couple of times in flashbacks before making his appearance in the main series.
  • Full-Contact Magic: Most of his spells involve physical strikes such as punches and kicks.
  • Groin Attack: Suffers a supercharged one from Velverosa
  • Hikikomori: While unmotivated he regresses into a far more literal example than Velverosa. As in, laying in front of the TV, watching anime, and eating pizza in a bathrobe.
  • Puppet King: He seems to be well aware of his status as this to the shadowy council.
  • Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: Sepheron is believed to be dead from his battle with Axel. The epilogue reveals he actually survived but simply went home to watch his cartoons without telling anyone.
  • The Worf Effect: Inflicts this on everyone near him, simultaneously, once he joins the story. He was Demon King for a reason.

Other Demons

Fillonne, Former Personal Maid of Velverosa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fillonne.jpg
Velverosa's childhood maid, she took care of her instead of her parents who were constantly off waging war against humanity or attending to their constituents' problems directly.
  • Happily Adopted: She was adopted by a human couple and lived a pleasant life in a human village, even meeting her former lover there.
  • Interspecies Romance: Her ex-lover was a human woman, which helped inspire Velverosa's beliefs that peace and coexistence between the two races are possible.
  • Mayfly–December Romance: She openly admits that she could have well out-lived her former human lover due to her vastly increased lifespan compared to humans.
  • Parental Substitute: She acted as this to Velverosa in her childhood.
  • Put on a Bus: After she was fired from Velverosa's service and sent away, she is never seen or heard of again in the present.
    • The Bus Came Back: After only appearing in a flashback, Fillione makes her debut in the modern day in Season 3, Episode 8, joining the party for the rest of the series.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Velverosa.

    Former Demon King Aagrog Ghalaztox
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2024_01_04_223901368.png
The 43rd Demon King, the King of Dragons, head of the Ghalaztox Clan and Velverosa's father.
  • Daddy Had a Good Reason for Abandoning You: Unfortunately, being Demon King doesn't give one a lot of time to play with their child.
  • Follow in My Footsteps: Gave Velverosa all the best tutors and study materials so she could be Demon Queen someday after him.
  • Girlfriend Blocking Dad: Attempted to play this when he meets Malori for the first time, but his daughter comedically undermines it knocks him out in a single blow.
  • The Good King: Although we don't know much about his reign, his servants didn't seem to be willingly attacking him, so this may be the case.

The Human Kingdom

The Royal Family of Folstina

    In General
  • Determinator:
    • King Albert is this. One has to be incredibly persistent to both drive back the Demon civilization to a single, barren continent of Mortem and unite several different regions and cultures under one rule as monarch, after all.
    • His daughter, Leora, inherited the same attitude, only her driving mission is to woo Malori by whatever means necessary.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: All three of the royal family have blonde hair which signifies humankind's view of them as heroes and beloved monarchs.
  • Hot-Blooded: King Albert can get very intense and passionate, to terrifying degrees, and his daughter Leora is of a similar disposition when it comes to getting what she wants.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: Elenoir has these and Leora inherited them, though in the latter's case, she is far from a sweet, innocent, and naive girl.
  • Opposites Attract: King Albert and Queen Elenoir have incredibly contrasting personalities but love each other dearly.
  • Straight Man and Woman: Yahzel is this to his charge, Leora and Queen Elenoir is this to her husband, Albert. Yahzel is notably frequently unsuccessful at making Leora see reason.

Members

    Albert Siegwald, King of Folstina
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/king_albert_0.jpg
The reigning King of Folstina. He was once an adventurer who formed and led a legendary party in slaying the Demon King 40 years ago, now forcibly retired due to age. His anger and genocidal vendetta against demons remain alive and well, however.
  • Berserk Button: In the face of the long, brutal, and catastrophic losses and suffering humankind has suffered by the hands of demons for as long as either race can remember, the idea of attempting peace with them sets him off, to say the least.
  • Blood from the Mouth: In his very first scene he's vomiting blood.
  • Cool Old Guy: No matter how violently racist he is, standing up to personally fight the monsters invading his world, to protect his people, while dying, was pretty awesome.
  • Determinator: In the past he managed to unite all four continents under his rule without a Birthmark of Destiny or being a Hero. Even now, he's still got it. Giving into his dragon sickness was supposed to turn him into a mindless monster, but his sheer willpower turns it into a One-Winged Angel.
  • Good Parents: He's a bit of a dick, and he hates demons with a passion, but the fact that Leora openly goes by that name, is known as the princess, and wears dresses during court, implies that he is nothing but supportive of her being transgender.
  • Harmful to Minors: He has openly talked about the less-than-child-friendly parts of his grand journey to defeat the Demon King 40 years ago. This is because of ignorance than anything else.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Blows himself up after giving into his dragon sickness to stop the Eldritch Abomination from destroying the world.
  • Hero of Another Story: He was the leader of the four-man party that slew the previous Demon King 40 years ago, united the continents, and was thus key to the current stalemate the Human/Demon war is at the start of the series.
  • Idiot Hero: His wife, Queen Elenoir, admits as much that he's an idiot (though she still loves him very much). He has done some incredibly dumb things like openly talking about how he recruited one of his former party members via a test of (sexual) endurance, right at their kitchen table with his then 5-year-old child well-within earshot.
  • Know When to Fold Them: He admits defeat when his army is routed and his daughter is captured.
  • Large and in Charge: He is King, tall, imposing, and hasn't lost much of his muscle mass since his forced retirement.
  • Living Legend: He's very much alive and well after his long, storied rise to the throne and victory against the former Demon King 40 years ago. Unfortunately, his age (around 61-65), the limits of the human body, and the need to hold his kingdom together through administrative might than combat strength keep him from completing his dream of utterly wiping out demonkind.
  • Old Superhero: Pretty much what he is to the kingdom. Deconstructed, since his status as a king enables him to order people to their deaths in wars based on his previous conquests, perform signature military-grade executions in front of a citizen audience, and stay completely guilt-free through sheer force of his battle-forged idiocy.
  • Racist Grandpa: He's fought one demon too many and is permanently stuck in this mode.
  • Retired Badass: Due to old age, he and the rest of his party are no longer physically fit to fight.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: He has this reaction to Malori asking if peace between the human kingdoms and Velverosa, the current Demon Queen, is a viable option. Considering he's both overseen and personally witnessed much of the cruelty and destruction the war has brought, it's more than understandable.

    Elenoir Siegwald, Queen of Folstina
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/queen_elenoir.jpg
The reigning Queen of Folstina, she is the much more reasonable, calm, and intelligent half of the royal couple.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: She keeps her husband's much more idiotic, blunt, and ignorant tendencies in check.
  • Dirty Old Woman: Very mildly. She's a married woman, but that doesn't stop her from offering to give Malori her First Kiss.
  • Foil: To her husband, the Hot-Blooded King Albert. She's noticeably much calmer, more intelligent, and more reasonable than him.

    Leora Siegwald, Princess of Folstina
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leora.jpg
The crown princess of Folstina. She is currently vying to win the heart of the Hero who would slay the current Demon Queen, Velverosa, whatever it takes. She is also transgender, formerly Prince Leo.
  • Always Wanted to Say That: She's absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to pretend to be the hostage of the terrible Demon Queen Velverosa, the archetypal Damsel in Distress.
  • Birthmark of Destiny: She's been gifted with a Mana Crest that gives her substantially more power to cast magical spells. She can even do dramatic feats like summoning heroes from other worlds.
  • Cover Innocent Eyes and Ears: Her mother, Queen Elenoir, attempted this when she was 5. It didn't quite work out.
  • Operation: Jealousy: She attempts to invoke this with Malori by summoning a Hero from another world in order to make it seem like she's falling for him. Malori, of course, doesn't care, but agrees to go on a date with Leora, presumably to try to get her to unsummon the obnoxious horndog she summoned.
  • Pair the Spares: After it becomes clear to her Malori will never have any interest in her, Leora becomes attracted to Fenn instead, who becomes her bodyguard in the epilogue but keeps refusing her advances.
  • Royal Harem: In the epilogue set 25 years later, Leora is not only queen of Folstina, but she has a harem of beautiful women waiting on her.
  • Stalker with a Crush: She is this to Malori, possibly as a form of karma for Malori's stalking Queen Velverosa. After the king summons Malori to a royal audience and promises her "anything" in exchange for killing the Demon Queen. Malori asks if "anything" includes the throne, at which point the princess declares how much she wants to marry a hero. A later strip reveals that after she left that day, Leora followed Malori in the hopes of asking her out, stuffed her mailbox with letters, and even tries a convoluted plan to summon a hero to serve as romantic competition. She even wonders if she's going too far, but ignores it.
  • Summon Magic: Leora's one of the more powerful summoners the kingdom has to offer, especially with her mana crest, so it's no surprise that she was tapped to call upon a hero. And then she does it again, and continues on by summoning numerous beasts (while undergoing several costume changes just to show off).
  • Sympathy for the Devil: In the epilogue, Queen Leora holds Axel responsible for his actions, but admits that she can't really see him as "evil" either. She explains that she thinks of him as a homesick young man who was driven to desperation by Folstina's hero summoning system, and that she herself shares some of the blame.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Leora freely admits she was partially to blame for the catastrophe Axel created, as she was the one to summon him.
  • We Have Become Complacent: In the epilogue, Leora discusses how she abolished using the Mana Tree for both revivals and summoning otherworlders after becoming queen. Even putting aside that the Mana Tree is still healing even 25 years later and that it's best not to strain it, she argues that Folstina became far too dependent on both systems and took them for granted. Using the Tree to constantly bring back the dead meant that people stopped treating death seriously, and summoning heroes to deal with things meant Folstina failed to learn how to solve its own problems.

Servants

Yahzel, Personal Retainer of Princess Leora
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yahzel.jpg
Princess Leora's personal retainer.
  • Ambiguously Brown: He's quite clearly inspired by Middle-Eastern/South-East Asian cultures, especially with his style of dress and fashion choices that the mostly Western European cast would find strange, such as his one gold earring.
  • Undying Loyalty: Towards Leora. No matter how stupid or ill-advised or improbable her ideas are, he will loyally back her up.

    Axel Dronvar
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2023_12_30_025651787.png
The Summoned Hero
A summoned hero who Leora summons as part of an Operation: Jealousy plot to get Malori interested in her.
  • All Up to You: Deconstructed; just before he leaves through a dimensional rip in an attempt to get home, Axel cheerfully tells Cerik that he's leaving him "a lot to clean up." It really just highlights how selfish Axel is, since the destruction and danger he's referring to is entirely his fault.
  • An Arm and a Leg: The epilogue reveals he lost an arm and a leg as a consequence of coming back to his world and finally meeting the fate meant for him. But he's nonetheless happy to finally be home..
  • Anti-Hero: Axel is a professional Hero who has (officially) already saved two worlds and just wants to go home. Unfortunately, he has let the power get to his head; he abusively 'trains' Cerik to become a hero against his will, and he uses excessive and dangerous force in the capital city to kill the fleeing demon lord (who he thought was just a regular demon at the time).
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Leora's summoning was meant to bring a hero to their world, and she certainly did that... for a certain definition of hero.
    • Axel's primary motivation is to get back home after being sent around to various alternate worlds. There's a reason he hasn't been able to get back home. Once he's finally returned to his original world, he's immediately hit by a truck.
  • Because Destiny Says So: The reason that he keeps getting sent to different worlds not his own is because he was plucked from there right before he was meant to die as opposed to be killed and then reincarnated as most other cases. When he finally gets his wish to go home, he's immediately run over by a speeding truck.
  • Chick Magnet: In both the worlds that he was summoned to before, his female allies apparently kept throwing themselves at him, to the point that he assumes Leora and Malori will do the same. He fails to realize that the princess summoned him specifically as part of an Operation: Jealousy involving Malori while the latter is strictly Vel-sexual.
  • Covered with Scars: His chest has a lot. He thinks it looks badass. Malori thinks he's bad at dodging.
    • The Grand Finale reveals that Axel survived getting hit by the truck after arriving home. However, not only did he lose an arm, a leg, and an eye, but his body is covered in scars.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Either in a conversation when his antisocial behavior is on full display, or when he attacks the demon even in the capital full of people in harm's way, Axel still has a casual smile and easy-going attitude throughout these actions.
    • He remains cheerful and upbeat even as he abandons Cerik and the entire kingdom to deal with the mass destruction Axel himself caused.
  • The Dreaded: The epilogue mentions that, even 25 years after the destruction he caused, there are still people in Folstina worried that Axel might return some day.
  • Freudian Excuse: He explains that he got bullied mercilessly in the world he came from, which might explain his violent and destructive behavior once he comes to the world where he is a strong "hero".
  • Hate Sink: While he's not the only villain of the webcomic, Axel is one of the most cruel characters in the entire comic, casually causing massive collateral damage and disregarding anyone else's wishes and ideas without a second thought. His Freudian Excuse only barely takes the edge off.
  • Hypocrite: In his final conversations with Cerik and the goddess, Axel muses on how he believes his journey has prepared him to face the challenges he left behind back on his homeworld, and how he'll face whatever's ahead with all that he's got. He says all this as he's happily abandoning everyone in Folstina to deal with the mass destruction and horror he himself is responsible for.
  • It's All About Me: While his desire to get back home is understandable and sympathetic, Axel is at a point where that's the only thing he truly cares about. When he overhears that the demons' Mana Cannon is capable of tearing a hole open between dimensions, Axel immediately rushes over to its controls and fires it. This act destroys the kingdom's Mana Tree (the loss of which will prevent the revival of the dead), causes massive amounts of devastation to the kingdom, almost ruins the ceasefire between the human and demon kingdoms that had just been called, and ends up unleashing swarms of otherdimensional horrors onto the people he was supposed to protect. Axel doesn't care about any of this, only for the slim chance that punching a hole between realities might get him home. After he finally makes his way to the dimensional rip created by the blast, he cheerfully abandons Cerik and everyone else to deal with the dangerous mess he himself created.
  • Jerkass: He's arrogant, self-righteous, and generally obnoxious.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Axel hijacks the demons' Mana Cannon and uses it to destroy the Mana Tree, devastating Folstina and letting hordes of eldritch creatures swarm in and attack the people, all so he could use the resulting dimensional rips in a desperate attempt to get home. He ultimately does so, only to immediately get hit by a speeding truck. The Grand Finale reveals that he did survive, but lost an arm, a leg, and an eye.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: When Axel overhears how the Mana Cannon can tear a hole open between dimensions, he immediately hijacks the weapon and fires it. This devastates the kingdom Axel was supposed to protect, both by destroying the Mana Tree and unleashing otherdimensional creatures onto the populace, and threatens the ceasefire that had just been called on the hostilities.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Axel ends up on the receiving end of this trope. Axel never knew the reason why he was unable to return home, and became increasingly desperate to find a way back. As it turns out, he was fated to die as soon as he ever returned to his original world. The gods responsible for summoning heroes could never just tell him this since talking to mortals about fate is strictly forbidden (when the last goddess he speaks with flat-out tries to warn him, magic chains appear around her throat and prevent her from saying anything). They kept sending him to other worlds in order to spare him his fated death, but this only served to make Axel more desperate. Sure enough, when Axel finally gets one of the goddesses to send him back to his home, he's almost immediately hit by a speeding truck.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: After using the Mana Cannon to destroy the Mana Tree, causing both massive destruction to the kingdom he was supposed to protect and unleashing swarms of otherdimensional creatures on the populace, Axel chooses to jump through one of the dimensional rips his action created in the hopes that it would bring him home. Cerik is outraged, since Axel is shamelessly abandoning everyone to deal with the disaster he himself caused.
  • Summon Everyman Hero: Has been summoned twice before Leora summons him to the current world. As you could imagine, he's rather homesick by now.
  • Tragic Villain: In the epilogue, Queen Leora admits that while Axel genuinely did a lot of unforgivable things, she doesn't think of him as truly evil. In the end, he was a homesick young man driven to desperation by Folstina's selfish hero summoning system.
  • Uncertain Doom: Zig-Zagged; the last we see of Axel during the final story arc, he's about to be hit by a speeding truck. While the impact itself isn't shown, the goddess' narration makes it very clear that he's going to die. ...or not, as the Grand Finale set 25 years later shows he actually did survive, if at the cost of severe injuries costing him an arm, a leg, and an eye. However, despite his injuries, he seems at peace with his life.
  • World's Strongest Man: Justified; he's currently on New-Game-Plus-Plus mode and has the inventory to match his overwhelming fighting style.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: In his previous worlds, he was the Hero of Legend, summoned to save the kingdom and bring about peace eternal or whatever. This comic is not those worlds, he's very much not a protagonist, and while he might be a chosen hero, that's not going to save him from humiliation.
    • Before leaving through the dimensional rip he created, Axel muses that he believes his journey as a summoned hero has prepared him to deal with the problems he left behind on his homeworld, as if he were the protagonist of a standard Isekai story returning home after his adventure. Cerik is furious to hear this, since in reality Axel is cheerfully and shamelessly abandoning him and the people of Folstina to deal with the mass destruction and otherdimensional horrors that Axel himself is responsible for.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: Through a fluke, Axel was summoned from his homeworld just before his destined death instead of after. If he were to ever set foot on his world again, he would immediately be killed. The gods responsible for summoning heroes, unable to tell him the truth since discussing fate with mortals is forbidden, kept sending him to different worlds in order to spare his life. When Axel finally gets his wish and returns to his homeworld, he's almost immediately faced with an oncoming truck.
    • That being said, his final fate is a subversion; while he does receive major injuries and is left disabled for life, Axel does in fact survive getting hit by the truck.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: Has been summoned and defeated the Demon King of an alternate world twice before being summoned to the current world, one after the other. Understandably, he really wants to go home by now.

Adventurer's Academy

An academy designed to teach and train new adventurers. They have suitable curriculums for all classes.

    "Granny" Willow Zelpon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2024_01_02_114905302.png
The headmistress of the Adventurer's Academy. She claims to be invested in her students' progress, but she comes off as extremely nosy.

Top Students

    Galena Vesmond
The 3rd best student in the Academy, a position she isn't happy about.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2024_01_02_170834455.png

  • Always Second Best: Third best, and the apparent lack of effort put in from the two students ahead of her (Cerik and Malori) pisses her off.
  • Fantastic Racism: Goes a hell of a lot farther than even King Albert Siegwald, outright comparing demons to animals and accusing Malori of bestiality when she finds out about her relationship with Velverosa.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Malori internally noted that Galena, someone who grew up in nobility and luxury, would view Malori, someone of a common background opposite to hers, with contempt since she's the #1 ranked student and deemed to be better than her who is at #3. When fighting against her alongside Laila, Galena shows that she's jealous of Malori's talent and fed up with how others treat her like she's the best.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Like Cerik, Galena is a swordsman.
  • Sibling Team: Cousin Team, in this case, with Laila.
  • Privileged Rival: Galena is from a wealthy noble house and tends to antagonize Malori a lot, something the latter never fully understood why. After Malori lets everyone think she wants to kill Velverosa and rule the kingdom, Galena outright says that she's the only real rival to her and Laila.
  • Rich Bitch: Galena grew up in luxury and when questioning Malori as to whether or not she's taking the quest to kill the Demon Queen seriously, she says it's impossible someone of "her stock" wouldn't make use of the funds provided by the king.

    Laila Vesmond
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2024_01_02_160824644.png
The 4th best student in the Academy
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Laila is a Monk, and as shown in her fight against Malori alongside Galena, she is skilled in hand-to-hand combat.
  • Out of Focus: The least focused upon named student, presumably due to mostly just doing whatever Galena says instead of standing out more like Alto.
  • Sibling Team: Cousin Team, in this case, with Galena.

    Alto Feur Grilles
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2024_01_02_133041235.png
Allegedly the best Cleric in the Academy, but his aim sucks, leading him to buff the Demons instead. He's the 5th best student in the Academy
  • Big Damn Heroes: He's the reason why there were no casualties during Velverosa's rampage against the raiders. On both sides.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: His silhouette appears a few episodes before he does.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Actually has this, but nobody, including the reader, finds out until he reveals himself to be a Demon sympathizer. Turns out, he actually was aiming at the Demons
  • Likes Older Men: Has a bit of a thing for the King, who's over 60 years old.
  • Secret-Keeper: Doesn't tell anyone about Malori and Velverosa's interactions once he finds out. Although it's initially presented as him being clueless to the identity of the dragon and being threatened, the real reason why he didn't tell anyone was because he also wished for peace with the Demons.

Merchants

    Axle Aldebrandt
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alex_aldebrandt.jpg
Head Executive of Aldebrandt Weaponry and Cerik's father.
  • Abusive Parents: He wants Cerik to be the best successor he can be and isn't afraid to be cold, cruel, and ruthless to do it. One could say that for a weapons merchant, he's quite cutthroat in business and family matters.
    • On the other hand, when Axle and his wife were taken prisoner by the king to use as hostages to force Cerik to perform his "duties" as a summoned hero, he encouraged Cerik to ignore them and do what he felt was the right thing to do, stating that Cerik's own safety and well-being should always come first. They (his parents) even said it was fine for him to run away from the war, if that's what it took for him to survive. What's more, they said this knowing full well that the Cerik they raised was not their original child.
  • Alliterative Name: Axle Aldebrandt
  • Arms Dealer: And the very best at that. Adventurers trust in the quality of Aldebrandt if you want the very best for your demon-slaying and questing needs, though they frequently lament that their top-quality constructions make it difficult to find the rare materials necessary to maintain and improve them afterward.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: Alongside his wife, Axle figured out a long time ago what had really happened to Cerik. After privately mourning the loss of his actual son, he and his wife began treated Cerik as their real son, which culminated in one hell of a You Are So Much Better Than You Think You Are moment.

    Marcus Crowett
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marcus_crowett.jpg
Malori's deceased father. He adopted her shortly after Velverosa torched the Wretched Hive Malori was living in. He was also key to Cerik and Malori meeting due to being friends with the former's father, Alex Aldebrandt. He owned a bread store before he died,+.
  • Good Parents: He was an excellent father to Malori.
  • Happily Adopted: For however long he was her adoptive father, all signs point to it being a happy found family.
  • Killed Offscreen: As he already had graying hair in his first appearance and Alex, his good friend, called him a "fossil" and was surprised he had a child before learning Malori was adopted, he's presumed to have passed away of old age an unknown time before the start of the series.

Other Humans

    Cecillia Doltessa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2024_01_03_165137203.png
Click here to see her true form

  • Badass Teacher: The person who taught Malori how to use magic, and briefly went toe to toe with Sepheron.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Perfectly willing to ask details on someone's sex life, and equally willing to engage a Demon King if necessary.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Although her eyes were always obscured somehow, an image of Cecillia often appeared while Malori was thinking of her.
  • The Gadfly: It seems like most of her screentime is devoted to her messing with people for fun.
  • Interspecies Romance: Ends up in a relationship with Fillione after some badly timed flirting.
  • I Want Grandkids: Probably the closest thing Malori has to a parent in the present day, and she demanded to see Malori and Velverosa's children one day. It should also be noted that Cecillia bears quite the resemblance to Malori in her child form.
  • Older Than They Look: Safe to say, she isn't an actual child.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Even when disguised as a child her behavior doesn't change much.
  • Shipper on Deck: Fully supports Malori and Velverosa's relationship, if only because she thinks it's the funniest thing she's ever heard of.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: Pulls this twice on Velverosa during her introductory scene. Once on the way in, and once on the way out.

    Haza Vair
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2024_01_02_101412743.png
With Malori's dream temporarily crushed, the narrative briefly switches to someone else. For about half an episode
  • Decoy Protagonist: Her appearance after Malori gives up on marrying Velverosa implies she's going to be the new main protagonist. It doesn't last long.

Spoiler Characters

    The Demon Charmer
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2024_01_02_122449823.png
The reason why Velverosa has such difficulty trusting Malori at first, and the reason why she reacted so badly to Malori's Demon Charmer powers.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Pretended to be Velverosa's friend so she could get a way into the Demon King's castle.
  • Birthmark of Destiny: Has a magic crest, a Demon Charmer one to be specific.
  • More than Mind Control: She was the most proficient user of the Demon Charmer abilities to appear in the webcomic, implying she figured out the trick to making it work at it's best.
  • No Name Given: We never find out what her name was.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Never directly appears outside of flashbacks due to being long dead, but her actions shape a lot of Velverosa's character to this day. Additionally, if she wasn't the reason why Demons hate Demon Charmers so much, she definitely did not help the issue.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Whether or not she really was injured remains ambiguous, but she definitely used it to help win Velverosa's trust.

    Amias
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2024_01_04_154046996.png
The long forgotten guardian deity of the Ruqiah Clan, the Demon Charmer clan that Malori is from.
  • Ironic Name: Her name means 'beloved' but she was anything but by the clan she was the guardian of.
  • Meaningful Name: Rather fittingly, her name means 'beloved'.

    Toby Vernilot
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_2024_01_04_230808964.png
A journalist who works for Gulhilde Daily. She's the first human-demon hybrid we see in the series, and the epilogue focuses on her.
