Tropes applying to both of them

Portrayed by: Wataru Hyuga (live), Yuji Nakata (suit, main series)
Two SiDriver Voiced by: Shingo Fujimori

  • Animal Motifs:
    • Bat Out of Hell: Live and Evil's shared primary motif, courtesy of Bat Genome. Bonus points for Evil explicitly being a demon who transforms.
    • Clever Crows/Creepy Crows: Crow Genome (with Kagero even having the black Feather Motif to go with it), though Evil never gets to use it due to the Vistamp evolving into Holy Wing and Kagero himself dying not long after, though once he revives and the Holy Wing Vistamp becomes the Perfect Wing Vistamp, the motif returns.
    • Noble Wolf/Scavengers Are Scum: Jackal Genome.
  • Balance Between Good and Evil: The only thing that separates Live and Evil — besides if it's Daiji or Kagero in control — is if the Two SiDriver is in Livegun or Evilblade mode when it's time to transform. This holds true even if the weapon mode is swapped after using a Vistamp, as shown by the DX toy and Battle Familia, so hypothetically one or the other could wrest control back and switch to their specific Rider form even during battle.
    • The negative effects of losing the balance are also shown, as after Kagero's death, Daiji becomes more impulsive and solidly grasps the Hero Ball while trying to remove FENIX's corruption, to the point where George becomes worried for his safety and refers to this trope as the reason why in #35.
George: All people operate on a balance between their good and evil sides. But you've lost Kagero. I'm just hoping you're not overwhelming yourself with your righteousness.
  • Divided We Fall: Their inability to work together in contrast to Ikki & Vice and Sakura & Lovekov causes them to fall behind in combat effectiveness midway through the show until #26. After Kagero's revival in #44, this is averted, allowing them to fuse together to create Kamen Rider EvilytyLive.
  • Feather Motif: Fittingly, Kagero — a being of darkness — sheds black feathers upon his death, with Daiji gaining a pair of white wings and being surrounded by white feathers as Holy Live. With the unlock of EvilytyLive following Kagero's revival, the two mix motifs, with the new form having one white and one black wing when Daiji transforms using the Perfect Crow Vistamp.
  • Fusion Dance: Power-Booster variation: after Kagero's death, the black feathers he dissolves into are absorbed by Daiji, unlocking Holy Live. While Daiji is fully in control, this implies he's merged with what was left of his inner demon. This turns out to be not quite the case, though, and only truly happens when Kagero is revived by Daiji realizing that he needs Kagero after all, creating a fusion of Holy Live and Evil called EvilytyLive.
  • Good Weapon, Evil Weapon: The Two SiDriver is designed to transform the wearer into either Kamen Rider Evil or Kamen Rider Live depending on which mode it's in: Evil uses the under-handed sword Evilblade, while Live uses the blaster Livegun.
  • Meaningful Name: The Two SiDriver is based on the phrase "Two Side", reflecting on their user Daiji/Kagero being two selves occupying one body. The fact that their symbol is made up of two faces also foreshadows their two Rider forms, one for each persona.
  • Morality Dial: The Two SiDriver's two modes act as this for transforming into a Rider and who is in control.
  • Out of Focus: After the initial story is resolved and Daiji becomes Kamen Rider Live, the two have pretty much nothing to do in the plot until Kagero is quickly brought back so it can be resolved in one episode. It would take until #34 for Daiji to receive focus again.
  • Split-Personality Switch Trigger: With their dynamic being similar to two personalities Sharing a Body; when Daiji gets knocked out, Kagero emerges and takes over. Similarly, when Kagero gets knocked out (usually by a Finishing Move such as a Rider Kick), he reverts back to Daiji.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Kagero may be fighting alongside Daiji after his revival, but they bicker constantly; Kagero tends to snipe sarcastically at Daiji as he's fighting, which Daiji usually responds to with barely contained irritation.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's difficult to talk about both of them without spoiling some major plot twists early on.
  • Wrecked Weapon: The Two SiDriver gets wrecked by Muramasa during their battle against him.

    Tropes applying to Daiji

Daiji Igarashi/Kamen Rider Live

Young Daiji Portrayed by: Atsuki Yamada

The second son of the Igarashis, with a shy yet prideful personality. An honor student with a clear mind and high athletic ability, he is quickly promoted to a squad captain at Fenix. Despite his skill, he's overshadowed by his brother Ikki after he becomes a Kamen Rider. This results in the awakening of his own inner demon, Kagero, who takes over his body.

After freeing himself from Kagero's control, Daiji uses the Two SiDriver in its Livegun mode and the Bat Vistamp to transform into Kamen Rider Live Bat Genome.

Tropes that apply to Daiji in general

Second Child of the Igarashi Family
Click here to see young Daiji

  • Affectionate Nickname: His family (sans Ikki) calls him "Dai-chan".
  • All for Nothing: His efforts to step out of Ikki's shadow by venturing into a greater career he knows Ikki wouldn't be interested in all went for naught when the latter still ended up joining Fenix and becoming The Hero in his place. Kagero claims that this was the Despair Event Horizon that caused him to awaken.
  • Always Someone Better: It's implied that he feels this way towards Ikki. He's very skilled himself, being one of the highest candidates for the Revice Driver, but Ikki's tenacity and athleticism make him pale in comparison. These feelings eventually fester to the point that they end up awakening Kagero, much to Daiji's horror.
  • And I Must Scream: Between #8 and #10. His consciousness was still awake and was trying in vain to regain control of his body since Kagero took over. Ikki is eventually able to give him the push he needs to break free in #10.
  • Anger Born of Worry: The Leeroy Jenkins mindset of his siblings tends to spike his anxiety sky high, which then prompts him to lash out and hurt them without meaning to.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: He is the middle child, but only Sakura (the actual youngest member of the family) doesn't treat him this way. Even his interactions with Hiromi, a fellow Fenix captain, imply that he also views Daiji this way.
  • Badass Biker: Daiji is a capable soldier who can handle motorcycles with ease in contrast to Ikki, a Kamen Rider, who only gets to use an ordinary bicycle.
  • Bash Brothers: Does pretty well at cooperating with Ikki and Vice after coming back as Live.
  • Bastard Understudy: After weeks spent on Akaishi's side, Daiji eventually decides that Akaishi doesn't have what it takes to save humanity, and finishes him off in order to take his place as Giff's new right-hand man.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Downplayed, due to it being a subconscious wish on Daiji's part. Desiring a life where he would no longer be in Ikki's shadow (phrased as "a world without Ikki"), he joined Fenix with the aim of protecting the world by himself as a Kamen Rider, while Ikki would mind his own business at the bathhouse. However, the trauma of the incident in #1 that eventually led Ikki to join Fenix and take his place as a Kamen Rider anyways ends up awakening Kagero, who seeks to make his subconscious wish a full reality. This also later applies to his desire to ultimately be free of Kagero's influence. When he seemingly dies, Daiji is finally able to take control of his body back but has also lost the balance between his light and dark sides. He becomes obsessed with doing what he thinks is right regardless of the impact it has on his family or those around him. Kagero's revival helps restore the balance and ironically lets him finally stand on equal terms with his brother, just as he had originally wanted.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Similar to Ikki, he is protective of Sakura regardless of how stifling she thinks it is.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Borrows Ikki's "Let's do this in one shot!" when transforming with the Revice Driver.
  • Cain and Abel: The Cain to Ikki's Abel. Ends up fighting both his siblings after he joins forces with Akaishi. Neither Ikki or Sakura want to fight him, and both hold back so they can try and reason with him, but Daiji isn't having any of it.
  • Catchphrase:
    • Before transforming: "I'll decide between right and wrong."note
    • Pre-finisher: "Let's end this seriously!"note
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: First betrays the Igarashis when they fail to save Akemi, then shoots Akaishi through the chest before pledging himself to Giff.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character:
    • Both Rintaro Shindo and Daiji are the main secondary Riders of their series with calm and level-headed personalities, who share a good relationship with their series' main protagonists. While Rintaro was a Experienced Protagonist who became a Rider prior to his series' events, Daiji is a professional soldier who recently joined Fenix and became a Rider in his own right after freeing himself from Kagero. Rintaro was a orphan who was raised by the Sword Of Logos and befriended Touma after their first encounter, while Daiji is Ikki's younger brother and lives with his parents and siblings. How they also contrast is their loyalty to their respective factions. Rintaro begins to doubt his place in Logos after he's given the instructions to attack Touma and eventually leaves the moment he finds that Master Logos was working with the Megid. Meanwhile, Daiji sticks with Fenix even after Akaishi outs himself as working with Giff and that eventually leads to him coming to blows against Ikki.
    • Both he and Nobuhiko Akizuki are brothers of the main protagonist who have unnatural powers, with Nobuhiko being the Century King, a candidate for the Creation King, and Daiji possessing demonic powers. Furthermore, while Kohtaro was an adoptive brother to Nobuhiko, both Ikki and Daiji are blood-related siblings. Both also come into conflict with the main protagonist, for different reasons: Nobuhiko was brainwashed by Gorgom to fight Kohtaro, while Daiji was possessed by Kagero and later becomes Hideo Akaishi's personal enforcer in conflict with Ikki out of his own reckless free will.
  • Cowardly Lion:
    • He's a courageous member of Fenix who is willing to fight on the frontlines against the Deadman cult, but his fear of the Revice System potentially unleashing his inner demon causes him to foist it on Ikki.
    • Unfortunately enough, that actually turned into a step towards his demon's ability to unleash himself. According to Kagero, Daiji is pathetic, unable to take control of his life and entirely useless. Ikki begs to differ, because he knows Daiji could keep a cool head even as a child.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Poor Daiji appears to be on his way to crossing this. He fails to stop Giff's revival, witnesses the organization he dedicated his life to serving be destroyed from the inside, and to top it all off he even fails to save Akemi. He goes from the coolest Igarashi sibling to the most fiery and emotional. This ends up being the catalyst for him to fall into Akaishi's hands.
  • Determinator: It's eventually revealed this is one major trait he excels over Ikki at, first seen when he got lost as a child; he kept knocking the metal wall of a room he was trapped in non-stop because he believed his family would find him with it. Similarly in present-day, his Fighting from the Inside non-stop was what allowed Ikki realise his feelings and reach out to him to give him the support he needed to break free of Kagero's control.
  • Deuteragonist: The second son, secondary Rider and the one who gets the second most focus after Ikki and Vice.
  • The Dragon: Akaishi eyes him as his new Dragon after Orteca perishes. By #39 he's able to successfully groom Daiji into taking his side, turning him into his personal enforcer. As of #43 he seems to have become Giff's, or so it should be, Vice prevented it before he made the contract.
  • Enemy Mine: Although he has a justified contempt for Vail, he isn't above allying with him against Ikki and Vice in order to gain an edge against them in their new Super Modes.
  • Ensign Newbie: He's already been promoted to a Captain in Fenix, despite being fairly new to the organization.
  • Face–Heel Turn: After the heroes fail to save Akemi and thanks to Akaishi's manipulations, Daiji ends up bearing a personal grudge towards Ikki. Akaishi is able to exploit this, coupled with Daiji's growing exasperation, to sway him to his side.
  • Foil: To Orteca, Akaishi's previous Dragon. Orteca came from an abusive family and joined the Deadmans purely for power, Daiji came from a loving home but joined Fenix to escape his brother's shadow, and ultimately turns to the dark side out of a desire to protect those he cares about. The contrast also comes in the way the two fight: in battle Orteca relied on powerful forms to gain the advantage and hammered away at his opponent in them until they had been sufficiently beaten down, while Daiji tends to rely on his own skills in combat to compensate for the power difference between himself and his brother's Super Mode.
  • Goroawase Number: Daiji's number as a member of FENIX is 4673, which can be read as "shiranami", Genta's original family name.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: According to Kagero, Daiji had always resented Ikki for being in the spotlight while he was stuck in his shadow, enlisting in Fenix in his bid to strike out on his own. This is further exacerbated with Ikki successfully transforming into Revice.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Kagero's return, fueled by Hiromi encouraging Daiji to stop running away from his failures and admit his fears, gives Daiji the courage to go back to the Igarashis and abandon his plans to try submitting to Giff.
  • Hero Ball: Unfortunately, he solidly grasps this later in the series after losing Kagero, as his single-minded goal to restore righteousness to FENIX causes him to act impulsively, which Akaishi exploited to instill despair in humanity in #35 by broadcasting the Riders' defeat to the general public.
  • Hero of Another Story: He's the protagonist of the spin-off manga My Brother Is a Kamen Rider.
  • Incorruptible Pure Pureness: Deconstructed. Following the death of Kagero, Daiji has effectively lost any selfish or negative traits... making him unable to do anything other than the most noble and heroic choice in any situation, whether that's a good idea or not. Later he crosses the Pure Is Not Good territory to be self-righteously obsessed with ARARAT's cause.
  • Internal Reformist: Chooses to stay with Fenix at the end of #28, in order to remove the rot from the organization from within - up to and including antagonizing Akaishi if need be.
  • Klingon Promotion: Kills Akaishi right before turning to Giff and seemingly offering to replace him.
  • Knight Templar: Ultimately becomes this upon continuing to side with Fenix, which brings him into conflict with Ikki. Despite this, he's fully convinced he's in the right and unwilling to hear anyone else out, believing that Ikki is just going to get more people killed by continuing to oppose Giff. This is further reinforced by the knight-like appearance of Live and Holy Live. Once Kagero revives, he stops being this.
  • The Lancer: His stiff, by-the-book personality contrasts Ikki's easygoing, laidback nature.
  • Les Collaborateurs: Argues with Ikki that it might be better in the long run to live with Giff and get on his good side rather than fight him.
  • Light Is Good: Daiji's Fenix uniform is mostly white in colour, and he is a heroic character who fights for the greater good. However, he keeps his uniform even as he fights for his misguided ideas of the greater good, turning him into Light Is Not Good.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Daiji's serious and taciturn personality resembles to Genta or rather Junpei's original personality when he was young. He even shows signs of becoming The Berserker while fighting a horde of Giff Juniors in #37, much like his father's fighting style as Vail.
  • Loss of Identity: The loss of Kagero ends up unbalancing his personality over time, as Kagero represented the part of him calculating enough to resort to Awesomeness by Analysis and meticulous, cool-headed planning. As a result, he becomes far more rash, self-righteous, and hasty, damaging his ability to make good long-term plans and letting Akaishi outgambit him on multiple occasions, which only gets worse when Akemi's death and Akaishi's plans drive him further into despair about humanity's odds against Giff. Kagero's revival in #44 finally reverses this decline.
  • Meaningful Name: His given name, Daiji, is spelled with the character 二, signifying him being the second son of the family. He's also the host of Kagero, the second Rider Belt user to appear, as well as the second user of the Two SiDriver.
  • Not Brainwashed: #40 and #41 reveal Akaishi's role in his insanity is negligible at best.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite having problems with Ikki's overbearing nature, his own catchphrase is a pun on his name, just like in Ikki's case.
  • Not So Stoic: The calm and level-headed Daiji loses his cool whenever his family and loved ones are in danger.
  • Order Is Not Good: Once Giff is revived, Daiji becomes convinced the best way to ensure peace is to submit to him, even though that would put humanity under the thumb of an amoral demon god.
  • Picky Eater: As noted in #6, he's completely incapable of eating anything too spicy. The fact that he's able to wolf down Sakura's incredibly spicy curry without so much as flinching is a hint to the viewer that something is very wrong with him.
  • The Poorly Chosen One:
    • He was originally considered to be the top candidate to use the Revice Driver, but after seeing Hiromi's failed attempt to use it, he became paralyzed with fear and unable to transform, resulting in the belt ending up with Ikki. He develops major insecurities about this that he ends up projecting onto Ikki, resenting him for being able to successfully transform and berating him for his reluctance to join Fenix and fight as a Kamen Rider full-time.
    • This gets explored further since while Daiji couldn't use the Revice Driver at the time, he still fully retains the potential to become a Rider. When he attempted to grab a new Driver that George was working on, none of his superiors explicitly denied him the ability to do so, and George himself has simply advised that Daiji needs to improve himself if he seriously intends to become a Kamen Rider for real. These events eventually take on a much darker tone when it is revealed they caused his potential to harness his inner demon to accidentally culminate into Kagero's creation at some point. Despite being fully aware of what happened to him, George purposely hands the Two SiDriver over to Kagero to see what the latter could do with it.
  • Properly Paranoid: Just like Ikki, his fear of his inner demon is completely validated after it's revealed that Kagero has already been possessing him for some time.
  • Protagonist Journey to Villain: Starts out as the heroic deuteragonist to his older brother, but after repeatedly failing to stop Giff and going through trauma, he ultimately chooses to take his place at Akaishi and Giff's side.
  • Rage Against the Reflection: He does this in #7 once Kagero introduces himself as the demon born from Daiji's resentment towards Ikki. Unfortunately, this just gives Kagero the opportunity to possess him once again.
  • Revenge: It's alluded to that at least part of the reason he sides with Fenix against Ikki is because he blames Ikki for Akemi's death (it was actually Akaishi and Giff who killed her, but neither was around to see that).
  • Sibling Rivalry: As of #3, he seems to be getting more resentful towards Ikki receiving the Revice Driver instead of him, even blowing off his attempt to thank him for his help in fighting the Kong Deadman. Later episodes show that he actually has a deep rooted resentment for Ikki stemming from never getting out of his brother's shadow and despite being ashamed of these feelings, he couldn't stop them from piling up to the point of losing control of himself.
  • Significant Wardrobe Shift: After the events of episode 44 he swaps out his Fenix uniform for a more casual outfit.
  • The Smart Guy: As noted by Ikki, Daiji is the "cool head" of the three siblings and the one who tends to be the one to come up with their plan of attack.
  • The Spock: He's the coolest and most stoic and logical of the Igarashi siblings. Later events, including the downfall of Fenix and reveal of Akaishi's true allegiance see him become increasingly impulsive and hot-headed.
  • The Starscream: Finishes off Akaishi with a Justice Finish, declaring that he is not fit to lead humanity before making a contract with Giff.
  • Stepford Smiler: Implied with the end of #4. Despite the moment Ikki fully accepting his new job as a Kamen Rider being the Despair Event Horizon that awakened Kagero, he proudly tells him the solution to recover a human from a Phase 2 Deadman while wishing him all the best with a smile.
  • Tranquil Fury: He enters this state in #26 when he first obtains Live Holy. This is in stark contrast to the Transformation Sequence in the previous scene, where he's practically screaming his head off in mourning towards Kagero's death at his hands.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After becoming a Kamen Rider, Daiji has become far more confident in his abilities, able to take down hoards of Deadmans with ease.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Akaishi successfully driving him towards the Despair Event Horizon as well as isolating him from his family and friends leads him to start pushing them away, right at the point where he needs their help the most.
  • Unflinching Walk: Averted; unlike most Riders, Daiji doesn't walk or pose away from the explosions of defeated enemies, instead staring at them head-on to confirm his kills.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Akaishi plans on grooming him to become Olteca's successor. Daiji thus far has not been successfully able to play out of Akaishi's hands.
  • Wacky Parent, Serious Child: Daiji is very sensitive and serious compared to his parents and Ikki, feeling embarrassed when Ikki was waving a big flag at his inauguration ceremony. His uptight attitude tends to clash with his more relaxed family members badly, especially Ikki.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: After failing to stop Akaishi and witnessing just how powerful Giff is, Daiji comes to the conclusion that it's foolish to oppose Giff and that humankind must submit in order to ensure the least amount of casualties. He's also shown to be very disgusted at working with Vail even as they fight Ikki and Vice.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • It goes both ways between the two brothers. He takes Ikki's recklessness in battle pretty hard and during their argument in #4, Ikki straight-up yells at Daiji to put on the Driver if he has such a problem with Ikki doing it, and that it's not his (Ikki's) fault Daiji can't transform.
    • #39 has him once again on the receiving end of this; as he assaults one of Weekend's shelters, Tasuke calls him out for abandoning his honor, and the refugees condemn him as a hypocrite.

Marvelous Up! Kagayaku hodo shining! Hageshiku naru darkness!note  Crossing crossing! Kamen Rider Live & Evil Marvelous!

  • Ascended Demon: Holy Wing Genome gives the demon-empowered Rider an angelic form, thus invoking this trope.
  • Badass Longcoat: His [Vistamp] Brandy Cross armor is modeled after one, in contrast to Evil's Conspicuous Trenchcoat-based [Vistamp] Brandy Jacket armor.
  • Barrier Warrior: Holy Wing Genome gives him the ability to create containment fields from the Livegun to immobilize enemies.
  • Bayonet Ya: When enlarged, the wing portion of the Holy Wing Vistamp can be used as a short blade on the Livegun.
  • Blue Is Heroic: Holy Wing Genome turns the aquamarine portions of his suit to silver-blue, and Daiji is very much a good guy.
  • Finishing Move: By hitting the Activation Knock on the Two SiDriver and pulling the trigger, Live can perform moves known as "Justice Finishes", which differ depending on whether it's in belt or weapon mode.
    • Bat Genome:
      • Belt: Live leaps into the air, performing a Rider Kick covered with turquoise energy that takes the form of a giant bat.
      • Livegun: has several variations.
      • Live unleashes a Rider Shooting charged with golden energy bullets from the Livegun.
      • Live gathers energy at the barrel, and fires a series of golden sound waves at the enemy, stunning them.
      • Ohinbuster50:
      • Bat Justice Finish/Ohing Strike: Live charges up both the Livegun and Ohinbuster50, and fires two Rider Shootings that take the shape of the Ohing Stamp seal and the Bat seal. They then form golden energy bullets and energy orbs that bombard the enemy.
    • Jackal Genome:
      • Livegun: Live charges the Livegun, dashing around the enemy whilst unleashing rapid-fire Rider Shootings.
    • Holy Live:
      • Holy Justice Finish:
      • Belt: has two variations.
      • Holy Live flies into the air and performs a flying kick with his leg covered in light blue energy, creating a shockwave. A dome of blue energy then forms around Live as he approaches the opponent. The kick produces a shockwave of light blue energy upon impact before a mass of white feathers is scattered into the air. Soon afterwards, the enemy explodes.
      • Holy Live performs a flying kick covered in light blue energy through a crowd of enemies, destroying them and resulting in multiple explosions.
      • Livegun: has several variations.
      • Holy Live parries the attack of an enemy using the Livegun's blade before delivering a cyan energy slash to a second opponent. He then charges cyan energy at the end of the Livegun's barrel and fires several cyan blade-shaped energy projectiles into the first enemy at close range, causing them to explode.
      • Holy Live spins and uses the Livegun's blade to release several blue and cyan energy slashes around himself. The energy slashes form a full circle and destroy any enemies near Live, resulting in multiple explosions.
      • Holy Live charges the Livegun for an extended period of time, with swirling cyan and dark blue energy appearing at the end of the barrel as a large cyan blade-shaped energy projectile is formed. He then fires the projectile at the enemy, producing a blue shockwave. The projectile is surrounded by additional cyan and dark blue energy before striking the target.
      • Cyan energy gathers at the end of the Livegun's barrel, which is pointed towards the enemy at point blank range. Holy Live then fires several several cyan blade-shaped energy projectiles surrounded by additional cyan and black energy. The projectiles pierce through the enemy's body and leave cyan sparkles in the air.
      • Winning Justice Finale: has two variations.
      • Driver: Holy Live performs a flying kick covered in light blue energy, destroying enemy projectiles along the way before striking the opponent and producing light blue shockwaves upon impact. Live then kicks the enemy a second time with his other foot. As a result, the opponent is pushed back until crashing into a wall. Live then kicks off of the enemy shortly before the latter explodes.
      • Livegun: Holy Live gathers blue and cyan energy at the end of the Livegun's barrel before firing a volley of cyan blade-shaped energy projectiles that tear through the enemy's body.
    • Mega Bat:
      • Ohinbuster50: Ohing Strike: Live charges up the Ohinbuster50, and fires two Rider Shootings.
      • Marvelous Justice Finish: Live delivers a Rider Punch to his opponent alongside Evil. Alternatively, performs a Rider Kick alongside Evil and Demons, leaving behind a "50" mark after destroying their enemy.
  • Flash Step: Holy Live can dodge enemy attacks at lightning speed in a flurry of feathers, in a manner not unlike Kamen Rider Odin.
  • Flight: Holy Wing Genome gives him angelic wings that allow him to fly (the stand-by loop announcement even says "Wings to Fly"). When not in use, they can shrink down.
  • Gold-Colored Superiority: Is stated to be stronger than Evil, and has gold accents on his armor.
  • Good Counterpart: To Evil, being light-oriented and white in color in opposition to the latter's darkness motif and black coloring.
  • Guns Akimbo: Can do this when borrowing the Ohinbuster50 in gun mode in conjunction with his own Livegun.
  • The Gunslinger: In contrast to the melee-oriented Evil, Live fights using Gun Fu and Gun Kata with the Livegun.
  • Light 'em Up: Holy Live is powered by — and augments his attacks with — holy energy.
  • Light Is Good: Live resembles a regal knight decked out in shining white armor with gold accents, compared to Evil's darker Hell-Bent for Leather look, further emphasized when the black bats summoned during his transformation turn pure white after the Two SiDriver is set to Livegun mode. This is taken even further with Holy Wing Genome, which has him bedecked in white and silver-blue armor along with an angelic motif, and having the black feathers Kagero left behind envelop him and turn white during his transformation.
  • Lightning Bruiser:
    • Jackal Genome. While it's still only a slight boost in power over Bat Genome like Evil, Live hits harder to begin with so the boost patches his lower speed and jumping height, so it helps Live more than it does Evil.
    • Holy Wing Genome not only gives him wings and a huge buff in strength, it also drastically increases his speed to ludicrous levels. This is shown in his first fight with Olteca in which while able to No-Sell his attacks, he's capable of completely outmaneuvering his every move with little effort.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: Holy Wing Genome, which grants him a significant power boost.
  • Power at a Price: Due to Kagero taking the Crow Vistamp for use while it was still in development stage, it was originally a Flawed Prototype with a drawback of killing off whichever personality isn't in control when activating it. After a Duel to the Death with Daiji over who gets to use it and live, Kagero loses and faces his demise with dignity as he gives up his life to power the Vistamp, awakening it into the Holy Wing Vistamp and creating the Holy Live Super Mode.
  • Power Gives You Wings: Holy Wing Genome, as the name suggests, gives Live a pair of angel wings dubbed the Innocence Wings on his back that grants him flight and functions as shields. Notably, unlike other winged Kamen Riders whose wings only appear for flight or become a literal cape when not being used, Holy Live's merely shrink down and are constantly on his back.
  • The Power of Love: In further contrast to Evil, the Live System embedded in his chest armor greatly amplifies Daiji's positive emotions and directly converts it into pure fighting power.
  • Revolvers Are Just Better: The Holy Wing Vistamp gives the Livegun a revolver cylinder when the wing opens.
  • Rule of Symbolism: The transformation jingle for the angelic Holy Live Genome has the Driver chant "Holy! Holy! Holy!" In the Book of Isaiah, this was the chanting of the seraphim, who are described as the highest-ranked angels and the caretakers of God's throne.
  • Sdrawkcab Name: His name is just "Evil" spelt in reverse.
  • Spell My Name With An S: The word "Justice" in his transformation announcement is officially spelt as "Justis". Perhaps unintentionally, this turns the last part of the announcement into a pun on "Just is Bat".
  • Super Mode: Marvelous form, obtained via the Mega Bat Vistamp in the Revice Driver.
  • Triumphant Reprise: Live's Two SiDriver's stand-by call is a more heroic version of Evil's.
"Eenie Meenie Miney... Mo! Eenie Meenie Miney... Mo!"
  • Wing Shield: Holy Live's Innocence Wings not only allow him to fly, but can be used as shields to protect himself.

    Tropes applying to Kagero

Kagero/Kamen Rider Evil

Daiji's inner demon, born from his subconscious wish for a world where Ikki never existed. He was fully awakened by Daiji's trauma from witnessing Hiromi's failed attempt at transforming, combined with his resentment towards Ikki for successfully becoming a Kamen Rider. Seizing control of Daiji's body, Kagero seeks to fulfill his host's "wish" by killing Ikki, allying himself with the Deadmans to that end.

Using the Two SiDriver in its Evilblade mode and the Bat Vistamp, he transforms into Kamen Rider Evil Bat Genome.

Tropes that apply to Kagero in general

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/middle_4da550fc91_org.jpg
Daiji's Inner Demon
  • Arc Villain: He's the villain of a mini-arc stretching from episodes 5 to 10.
  • Anti-Hero: In contrast to Daiji, Kagero is blunt, cold, manipulative and amoral, often seen with a sadistic smile. He does not think highly of his host, calling him an idiot. He is cold in demeanor and shown to be a skilled manipulator. After Daiji accepted Kagero to be a part of him, Kagero was no longer the vile demon as he was before, but he also teasingly warned Daiji to not be a wimp or he'll take over his body again. Humorously, he also demanded Sakura's curry right after Ikki and Daiji sealed Giff back into his dimension. Kagero retains his bluntness, though, calling out the siblings regarding the harsh truth of certain situations whenever he needs to.
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Talks down to the Deadman higher-ups despite the fact that unlike Vice, he lacks any real superpowers without his Driver.
  • Character Tics: He has a habit of flicking his fingers, usually his pointer finger, against his jaw. It's also a major indicator of whenever he's in control.
  • Dark Is Evil: Kagero is a malevolent demon, and appropriately dons an entirely black outfit when he takes over Daiji's body. Becomes Dark Is Not Evil after his revival in #44.
  • Demonic Possession: He takes over Daiji's body to do his bidding, including stealing Vistamps from Fenix itself. It is implied he awakened after Ikki finally agrees to join Fenix and take his new role as Kamen Rider seriously in #4, resulting in Daiji succumbing to his thoughts that Ikki will be Always Someone Better no matter where he went.
  • Disappears into Light: Dissolves into black feathers and motes of light upon his death.
  • Easily Forgiven: Remarkably easily. Once he returns and fights alongside Daiji, Ikki and Sakura are not only happy to have him around without reservation, but joke with him and treat him like he's done absolutely nothing wrong. This is the same Kagero who's tried to kill them both, especially Ikki, numerous times.
  • Enemy Within: He is specifically Daiji's inner demon, although moreso than Vice as its currently not shown if he can even come out of Daiji's body in spiritual form, and his current only method of interacting with the world is via Demonic Possession of Daiji's body. He eventually separates from Daiji in #26, and rejoins with him in #44.
  • Evil Is Petty: His whole existence stems from Daiji's inferiority complex and jealousy towards Ikki. Naturally, this manifests in his personality being saltier than the Dead Sea and his need to antagonize the man both on the battlefield and in little ways like eating the overly spiced curry to prove his "manliness", or miming finger guns at Ikki's back.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: His voice is much deeper and guttural than his host's.
  • Evil Wears Black: Except for the times he tries to pass off as Daiji, during the times as a villain he appropriately wears black clothes.
  • Eye Color Change: When he's possessing Daiji, Daiji's eyes become a bright grey.
  • Foil: To Vice. While Ikki and Vice have a very uneasy partnership, at the end of the day, Vice still works together with Ikki to fight the Deadmans, transforming into a Kamen Rider alongside Ikki in the process. Kagero, on the other hand, regularly takes control of Daiji's body without his consent and transforms into Kamen Rider Evil on his own while Daiji is forced to watch from his subconscious. In addition, while Vice is a very upbeat demon who likes to joke around a lot, Kagero is far more sadistic and prefers to psychologically torment his enemies as opposed to Vice's desire to eat humans.
  • Food as Bribe: Apparently he likes spicy curry so much he's willing to cooperate with Ikki and Sakura in #15 for it.
  • Giggling Villain: Lets out some bizarre, distorted chuckles from time to time.
  • Go Out with a Smile: After giving Daiji the Holy Wing Vistamp, he gives him one final smirk before disintegrating.
  • Hazy-Feel Turn: While he's by no means a good guy, the fact that he chooses to protect Sakura and fight Olteca in #23 shows that his alliance with the Deadmans is effectively over. His return in #44 implies that he's made a Heel–Face Turn, at the very least because he's now working with Daiji than against him.
  • He Who Must Not Be Seen: It remains to be seen if Kagero has an actual demon form like Vice or Lovekov, as he only communicates through possessing Daiji or appearing as his reflection. #26 confirms that Daiji's appearance is his actual form, or at least his preferred form.
  • Hope Crusher: He bides his time until the most emotional positive moment of the Igarashi family trip to reveal himself in order to cause as much pain to Ikki as he physically can.
Inconsistent spelling : His name is spelled Kagero or Kagerou .
  • Informed Attribute: Word of God is that Kagero Took a Level in Kindness prior to #26, with his challenging Daiji to a fight and losing being a Heroic Sacrifice. However, he still acts as jerkish as his prior appearances.
  • Instant Costume Change: He can instantly reform Daiji's clothes into the ones he wears, which also includes turning his fingernails black and making his hair wavier.
  • Irrational Hatred: He claims to carry Daiji's hatred of Ikki, blaming the latter for ruining the former's efforts towards a life without Ikki's involvement and taking over Daiji's body because he was too afraid to actually get rid of Ikki.
  • It Can Think: Just like Vice, he's another inner demon who somehow awakened himself and has a much higher intelligence than the seemingly mindless Deadman demons. This turns out to be because he's effectively descended from Giff directly, and thus a different type of demon.
  • Jerkass: While his host Daiji is a sensitive soul who's still very kind despite his gripes with his family, Kagero is the complete opposite - acting cold with the people that Daiji should care about. He transitions more toward Jerk with a Heart of Gold post #44, as he's still abrasive but less antagonistic toward Daiji and the rest of the Igarashi siblings.
  • Killed Off for Real: He's defeated by Daiji and permanently erased in #26 in order to bring about the Holy Wing Vistamp. Subverted when he returns in #44, having been inside the Holy Wing Vistamp all along.
  • Knight of Cerebus: His appearance spells bad news for Revi and Vice, instantly trouncing them in his first appearance.
  • Lean and Mean: Kagero's body language and choice of clothes emphasizes Daiji's tall, gangly figure and being mean is all he is about.
  • A Lighter Shade of Black: While he harbors deep, fratricidal tendencies, he doesn't blindly try to attack Daiji's family like Vice does. Also, unlike Vice, he's not a cannibal.
  • Made of Evil: He's essentially every negative bit of Daiji's soul manifested as a living being. This eventually becomes a major issue as Daiji's growing moral character means that even in spite of Giff's rising influence Kagero has only become increasingly weaker over time, so much so that he decides to gamble his existence on one final attempt to take over Daiji's body.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • His name is the Japanese word for mayfly, which also carries the context of something ephemeral or insubstantial. Appropriate for a demon that has so far only manifested through Demonic Possession.
    • "Kage" means "shadow" in Japanese, which fits with him being Daiji's inner demon and his dark colour aesthetic. Complete with "rō" being a common Japanese suffix for a man's name, his name essentially translates to "Shadow Man".
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: Allies himself with the Deadmans in order to get Vistamps to torment the Igarashis with, rather than out of any loyalty to Giff. This serves as a source of friction between himself and the Deadmans leadership. This comes to a head during #8 when he outright attacks Aguilera for trying to poison Ikki and encroaching on his "prey."
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: Takes exception to Aguilera attempting to poison Ikki in #8, declaring that only he is allowed to kill him.
  • Out of Focus: After his defeat in #10, Kagero has seemingly faded to the background, only having appeared whenever Daiji is severely attacked to the point where he can return. He makes one final major appearance in #26, gambling on defeating Daiji so that he can take over for good, and though he fails, he eventually returns in #44, returning him to the spotlight.
  • Power Copying: As shown in Revice Forward, much like Vail, he can copy the powers of a Vistamp if it's stamped on him:
  • Pragmatic Villainy: His most devious move to date, abducting the scammer trio and then keeping them chained up, using them as a Deadman battery farm.
  • Rage Against the Reflection: Does this in #9 (in this case, to a puddle) when Daiji pleads with him to stop his rampage.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Kagero delivers one each to Ikki and Daiji in #9. To Ikki, he states that he is the reason he exists, accusing him of being an Attention Whore and stealing Daiji's dream. He also indulges in some psychological torture by putting the blame on Daiji himself in their last interaction.
  • Sadist: His ultimate motive is to cause misery to Ikki and force Daiji to helplessly watch him suffer in despair. He doesn't have any goals beyond this until his revival in #44.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: He is never fully killed, only bottled up inside Daiji. Thus he can occasionally resurface if Daiji is beaten or left vulnerable. #13 sees him return, only to get beaten back in by Sakura. His death in #26 was more like this, too, as he revives from the Holy Wing Vistamp to turn it into the Perfect Wing Vistamp followed by returning to Daiji's body.
  • Sixth Ranger: While he has different goals from the Deadmans, any time he resurfaces during a battle he usually takes their side against Ikki and the other Riders. As of #44 this is more permanent now that he's working with Daiji and not against him.
  • Slasher Smile: He often gives one upon getting the upper hand.
  • Slouch of Villainy: Apparently, he has to drape himself over whatever he is sitting on.
  • Smug Snake: Acts in a relaxed, self-assured way in stark contrast to his nervous, high-strung host.
  • Terms of Endangerment: Addresses Ikki as "onii-chan/sama", even when actively trying to kill him. After reviving in #44, he calls Ikki Demon Slave Driver as an Insult of Endearment.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Pun aside, Kagero serves as this along with fellow demon Vice. While he agrees to cooperate with his host's siblings, he still hasn't given up on his aim to kill Ikki. While he still remained antagonistic to the end, he lets Daiji have the Holy Wing Vistamp before apppearing to die peacefully, having seen the strength of Daiji's will. Upon his return in #44, he averts this somewhat, as while he still mocks Ikki he's significantly less focused on hurting the Igarashis and willingly lends Daiji his strength.
  • Trademark Favourite Food: It is implied extremely spicy curry has become a favorite of his, as he's willing to sell out the Deadmans' base access location and willingly let Daiji back in control in exchange for eating it until his throat burns. It's even to the point where he protects Sakura from Olteca!Demons in #23, stating that he wants to eat her curry as a reason to protect her. He also winds up impatiently asking for it after his revival in #44.
  • Unaffected by Spice: Unlike Daiji, he can eat even very spicy food without any problems.
  • Villain Decay: He started out as a menacing rival towards Ikki, coming out on top in most of their interactions with each other even with Vice alongside Revi. However, he's become less and less menacing after Daiji breaks free, and by #15 is more-or-less easily pushed around by Ikki and Sakura.
  • Villain Respect: Upon his defeat in #26, he acknowledges that Daiji has grown strong.
  • Villainous Breakdown: He does not take it well when Daiji finally breaks free from his control in #10, and can only scream in disbelief as Revi and Vice defeat him.
    "How-?! STOP IT!!!"
  • Wild Card: He seems to be handing out Vistamps for his own purposes and isn't aligned with the Deadmans cult at all, as not even Olteca and Julio knew about him before he showed up. #6 shows he's willing to work with them, but his goals remain both mysterious and purely his own.
  • Would Hit a Girl:
    • Does not hesitate to choke Aguilera when she attempts to kill Ikki before he has a chance to properly fight him.
    • In #9, he also backhands the female scammer when she mouths off to him.
    • Has no qualms about attacking Sakura/Jeanne in #13, in spite of the fact that she's his host's sister.
    • Manhandles Akemi and takes her hostage when George refuses to give him the Crow Vistamp in #26.

Tropes exclusive to Kagero as Kamen Rider Evil

Portrayed by: Yuya Nawata (suit, episode 26, Revice Forward)

Versus Up! Madness! Hopeless! Darkness! Bat! Heheh! Kamen Rider Evil! Yeah-haha!
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krre_evilmarvelous.png
Marvelous Up! Kagayaku hodo shining! Hageshiku naru darkness!note  Crossing crossing! Kamen Rider Live & Evil Marvelous!

  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: His suit's [Vistamp] Brandy Jacket is covered in markings similar to ink blotches of dye or pigment messily applied.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: Removable variety. The Evilblade runs parallel to the user's arm.
  • Conspicuous Trenchcoat: His [Vistamp] Brandy Jacket armor is reminiscent of a trenchcoat, with a High Collar of Doom and zipper angled to one side that actually zips up as part of his transformation.
  • Cool Sword: The very aptly named Evilblade, which is shaped as an underhanded straight-edge sword. Despite the odd shape, or rather due to it, the slashes it can unleash are powerful and are to be avoided.
  • Dark Is Evil: Almost literally, with Evil's armour being predominantly black and gunmetal.
  • Evil Laugh: The Two SiDriver lets loose a couple of them during its transformation jingle.
  • Finishing Move: By pressing the Activation Knock on the Two SiDriver and pulling the trigger, Evil can perform a variety of finishers, known as "Darkness Finishes", which differ depending on either it's in weapon mode or belt mode.
    • Bat Genome:
      • Evilblade: has three variations.
      • Evil forms a teal energy blade around the Evilblade and swings it, launching a large teal energy slash with copies of the energy blade embedded in it. This large slash is followed by is followed by a series of smaller, flickering slashes. After the slashes strike the target, Evil turns before charging and swinging the Evilblade again, launching more teal energy slashes at a second enemy.
      • Evil covers the Evilblade in teal energy and swings it upward, creating a teal energy slash. When the slash strikes the enemy, it forms into a spinning circular energy blade that continually attacks the opponent.
      • Evil forms a teal energy blade around the Evilblade and and swings it, launching a series of flickering teal energy slash projectiles with copies of the energy blade embedded in them. The energy slashes fly forward before continually attacking the enemy.
      • Evil forms a teal energy blade around the Evilblade and delivers a large teal energy slash with copies of the energy blade embedded in it to the enemy at close range. This large slash creates an explosion and is followed by is followed by a series of smaller, flickering slashes that launch the enemy away.
      • Belt: has two variations.
      • Evil covers his foot in turquoise energy and does a jumping roundhouse kick.
      • Evil covers his foot in turquoise energy and does a flying side kick.
    • Jackal Genome: Evil delivers a series of lightning-fast sword slashes to the enemy.
    • Mega Bat:
      • Revi Vicelash: Evil swings the Revi Slasher, deflecting any incoming projectiles in the progress.
      • Marvelous Justice Finish: Evil delivers a Rider Punch to his opponent alongside Live. Alternatively, performs a Rider Kick alongside Live and Demons, leaving behind a "50" mark after destroying their enemy.
  • Fragile Speedster: Evil's Jackal Genome is rather underwhelming compared to Revice's own Jackal Genome and the Kong Vistamp he traded for it, giving a boost to agility but not a lot of other unique traits to its name. Its relative fragility in this manner brings to mind its basis Genm, who was similarly not all that strong in reality as Level 0 despite Kuroto's tenacity.
  • Ironic Nursery Tune: His transformation standby jingle uses the counting rhyme Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe reciting it as frantically and creepily as possible.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: You probably don't want to be a near a person called Evil. Especially since the way it's pronounced is "devil" with a silent 'd'.
  • Punny Name: His name is spelt as "Evil", but read as "Ebiru", being actually derived from the last letters of "Devil", pronounced as "Debiru" in Japanese. In English terms, it would be more akin to pronounce it as "eh•vl" than "ee•vl". Becomes an Ironic Name post #44 as he fights alongside Daiji.
  • Sonic Stunner: Using the Bat Vistamp on the symbol mark on the Bat Brandy Jacket can produce directed sound waves to disorient his opponent.
  • Super Mode: Marvelous form, obtained via the Mega Bat Vistamp in the Revice Driver.
  • The Power of Hate: Befitting the fact that Kagero is Daiji's inner demon, Evil's suit includes the aptly-named Evil System, which amplifies the user's negative emotions and converts it into pure fighting power.
  • The Quiet One: He deliberately ignores any attempts at communication in his early appearances so as to keep Ikki and Hiromi from recognizing him before he decides to reveal himself.

Tropes exclusive to Kamen Rider EvilytyLive (Unmarked spoilers)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krre_evilytylive.png
Fly High! Perfect Up! Hehehe-Hahaha! Kamen Rider! EvilytyLive! I'm Perfect!
The final form of both Kamen Riders Live and Evil, obtained via the fusion of both Daiji and Kagero.
  • Badass Cape: Sports a white one.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Parts of his suit are now colored black, and he's on the heroes' side.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: EvilytyLive gains access to the Evilblade mode of the Two Sidriver to act as a melee weapon but he also has the wing bayonet of the Perfect Wing Vistamp that was carried over from the Holy Wing Vistamp that already served the same purpose. However when using a Rider Slash finisher, both blades can fire off energy, making it a case of overkill.
  • Finishing Move:
    • EvilytyLive Perfect Finish:
      • Evilblade mode: EvilytyLive swings the Evilblade, creating a series of teal energy slashes with energy blades embedded in them. The energy slashes strike multiple enemies in succession, resulting in them exploding. Live then briefly transforms into Kamen Rider Evil and swings again while running, creating two back-to-back energy slashes to attack more enemies. Upon returning to normal, Live manifests a teal energy copy of Kamen Rider Evil beside him. The two Riders swing their Evilblades downward, causing a single energy slash to slice though a group of enemies. The copy of Evil disappears as the enemies explode.
      • Livegun: EvilytyLive covers the wing of the Perfect Wing Vistamp in teal energy and uses it to deliver a teal energy slash to the opponent. The attack leaves behind black and white feathers before causing the enemy to explode.
    • EvilytyLive Perfect Finale:
      • Driver: EvilytyLive Live flies up to an airborne enemy while covered in green energy. He then performs a flying kick with his foot covered in cyan energy as he produces a large trail of multicolored energy. After the kick strikes the enemy, a teal energy copy of Kamen Rider Evil appears beside Live. The two kick the enemy again, producing cyan energy upon impact. The enemy is launched away as a result, leaving behind a a trail of multicolored energy themselves.
      • Livegun: has three variations.
      • Cyan light appears at the end of the Livegun's barrel before Live fires a sustained barrage of bladed projectiles made of black and white energy, with the barrel producing a cyan shockwave every time Live fires. He aims to the side while continuing to fire, attacking a line of enemies. The projectiles impale each opponent, causing them to explode.
      • While flying through the air, Live disappears into a mass of feathers before reappearing in front of the enemy. He charges teal energy at the end of the Livegun's barrel before firing a large bladed projectile made of teal energy at close range. After the projectile strikes the enemy, it is followed by a beam of cyan energy fired from the Livegun.
      • Waves of teal energy appear around the end of the Livegun's barrel before Live fires a volley of bladed projectiles made of teal energy. The projectiles are surrounded by semicircles of teal energy as they fly through the air before striking several enemies. Live then fires a cyan energy beam surrounded by additional black energy at a final target, producing a cyan shockwave upon impact. After striking the opponent, the beam traps them in a sphere of cyan energy covered by black and white feathers.
  • Fun with Palindromes: "EvilytyLive", as a show of the fusion between "Live" and "Evil".
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: He has one white wing and one black wing, showing how he is a genuine fusion of Evil and Live.
  • Guardian Entity: Depending on who's running the body at the moment either Evil or Live can project themselves for aid, or extra power during a finisher.
  • Playing with Fire: Is shown to have the ability to manipulate fire, allowing him to drive off Giff swarms away from a couple of Demons Troopers in #45.
  • Redemption Promotion: Quite a big one, since not only his stats are massively heightened, but EvilityLive could harm Giff when Giffard Rex couldn't, which mind you, required Giff's cells to harm Giff.
  • Super Mode: EvilytyLive Genome is this to both Evil and Live, with stats that massively trump Holy Live's, and allows him use of the Evilblade alongside the Livegun.
  • Yin-Yang Bomb: EvilytyLive possesses both Evil's darkness and Live's light, allowing the pair to achieve their full potential.
