Crux of Fatenote

"I have family in Hoshido. I also have family in Nohr. Even if I were to lose everything... Even if they all despise me... I can't choose to side with one against the other. I simply can't do that. I don't care if I lose everything. This is what I've decided."

The main hero of the game, whose identity and name is crafted by you, the player. A youth born into the Hoshidan royal family, but raised by the Nohrian royal family: they become the key to the interaction between both kingdoms, and their decisions will shape the plot as a whole.

Oddly charismatic and easily attracts others. Conceals elusive power. The one with the most hidden potential in the army.

Like their predecessor Robin from Fire Emblem: Awakening, the Avatar's personality in supports varies slightly by gender; the male tends to be more laid-back and sweet, while the female is more impish and upbeat.

Class: Nohr Prince (Male), Nohr Princess (Female)
Male voiced by: Nobunaga Shimazaki (Japanese), Cam Clarke (Fates, Smash, Heroes, Warriors), Yuri Lowenthal (English)
Female voiced by: Satomi Sato (Japanese), Marcella Lentz-Pope (Fates, Smash, Heroes, Warriors, Engage), Danielle Judovits, Stephanie Lemelin (English)

    A-F
  • Abusive Parents: Their adopted father Garon was very emotionally neglectful of them and locked them up their whole life. He also placed high expectations on them as a child and punished them violently when they didn't meet them—the male was starved, the female whipped. And their actual father, Anankos, is an insane dragon-god hellbent on making them suffer, though his good half did genuinely love them.
  • The Ace: While they aren't quite at Robin's level of tactical ingenuity, they're still gifted with a sword, capable leaders, beloved by virtually everyone under their care, and have the power to turn into a ferocious dragon at a moment's notice. They're also conventionally attractive, and can hold up under pressure even when things get personal for them. Rhajat even refers to Female Corrin as "a goddess walking among us".
Male Kana: Wait, are you fond of Mama?
Rhajat: Fond? Fond isn't even a drop in the bucket of it. I watch her like a goddess walking among us. Her prowess in battle, her grace under pressure! She is perfection personified!
  • Achilles' Heel:
    • Being part dragon, they have a weakness to anti-dragon weaponry.
    • The Hoshido Noble class has a 0% increased Resistance growth, not helping is the fact that even with Resistance as the boon, is often their weakest stat save for the chosen bane.
    • The Nohr Noble class has a 5% decreased growth in Skill, Luck, and and Defense, making it more inaccurate, less evasive, and less sturdy than the Hoshido Noble class.
  • Accidental Pervert:
    • In Male Corrin's S-support with Azura in Revelation, he will accidentally walk in on her bathing at a lake.
    • The player can make Corrin enter the Hot Springs at My Castle while characters of the opposite sex are using it (not that it's ever stated who's using it at any time...). Corrin will run off once they realize what they've done.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Xander usually refers to them as "little prince(ss)" in the English version. This is especially true for Female Corrin, as he still calls her that as his wife, and with all the adoration in his voice you'd expect.
  • All-Loving Hero: Corrin cares deeply for the royal siblings from both Nohr and Hoshido, but is forced to choose sides. This is more noticeable in Conquest and Revelation with the former going out of their way to not kill enemy soldiers unless there is no other option and outright states their desire to show mercy and humanity. As for the latter, Corrin decides not to side with either of them and reunite both Nohr and Hoshido siblings to fight against a larger threat, Anankos.
  • Anti-Hero: Type I in all the routes, with shades of Type III in Conquest. They're unquestionably heroic, but they have a lot of doubt whether or not they're really worthy of wielding the Yato, much less being in command of an army - justified, something that most of the soldiery outside of Corrin's closest friends and loved ones would agree on. In addition, in Conquest they deliberately put aside much of their ideals in order to make the best of the mistake of going to Nohr under Wide-Eyed Idealist pretenses in order to save as many people as possible by showing to the world Garon's corruption under the guise of supporting his conquest of Hoshido to get to that point. By the time a (truthfully-possessed) Takumi clamors for their head, Corrin doesn't deny what they had to do and accepts their brother's rage without any sort of denial of what they had to have done to get this far.
  • Apologizes a Lot: Corrin has a habit of rapid-firing apologies if they do something to upset others. They likely got this from their father, Anankos.
  • Arm Cannon: Their Dragon Fang skill transforms one of their arms into a fang-lined, mouth-like appendage that spits water bullets.
  • Audience Surrogate: Due to their naivety of the world, Corrin needs many concepts to be explained to them (to the player's similar benefit), such as the existence of shapeshifting races like Wolfskin or basic overviews of other countries that are visited.
  • Awesome Moment of Crowning: At the end of Revelation, they are crowned as king/queen of Valla by Azura.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Male Corrin's supports with Shiro show that he has quite a head for tactics and analysis—he beats Shiro in their duel by scanning his abilities on the spot, luring him into a false sense of security, and seizing the following opening.
Corrin: You have a powerful swing, but it tends to go wide. I noticed your strikes were creating a blind spot for you, so I aimed for that. It took a few hasty blocks against your blows before I could gauge the distance... But once I had it figured out, I waited for my chance to enter into your guard.
  • Badass Adorable: Female Corrin, especially if her more petite form is chosen during creation.
  • Badass Back: Male Corrin's victory pose has him turning his back to his fallen enemy.
  • Badass Bookworm: Corrin doesn't have the level of intelligence or tactical ingenuity that Robin from Fire Emblem: Awakening possesses, but they do read in their spare time, and while naïve, are far from stupid. By the end of each game, Corrin will have bested in combat great generals, dangerous criminals, royalty, hulking monsters, shape shifters, reanimated soldiers, seasoned veterans, and depending on the route Garon's dragon form ("Birthright"), a slime monster, an empowered Takumi ("Conquest") and finally their true father, a dragon-god-king ("Revelation").
  • Badass Cape: Like most Lords before them, Corrin sports a heroic cape.
  • Best Friends-in-Law:
    • Corrin can be this with Azura, Silas, Jakob, Felicia, or Flora, if the male version marries one of their daughters or the female version marries one of their sons, or in the case of Felicia and Flora: their twin. Also, all of them besides Flora can marry one of Corrin's siblings.
    • Additionally, this can be done with their children, an example being a Male Corrin-fathered Shigure S-Supporting with Silas's daughter Sophie.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Should you ever. For all their easy-going and cheerful attitude, Corrin does not stand for wanton cruelty, and reacts accordingly to it. They're scary enough when angry to outright terrify Hans into blabbing about Garon's attempted assassination.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Displays a lot of protectiveness over their little sisters Sakura and Elise, regardless of gender.
  • Black Knight: Their Nohr-exclusive promotion colors their attire predominantly in black, and gives them access to magic as another option to their swords and dragonstones.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: Corrin's Dragon Fang skill turns their left arm into a lance-like blade.
  • Blithe Spirit: Corrin doesn't particularly care if others perceive them as weird when they help out—and thanks to their optimism and social ignorance, they often do come across as such. It's especially notable in Revelation, where they shock everyone by choosing neither side to make their own.
  • Bond Villain Stupidity: Invoked late in Conquest when they have Ryoma at their mercy. Corrin tells Garon they should spare him to extend his suffering, although the real reason is because they actually don't want to kill him.
  • Breath Weapon: Corrin attacks this way in Heroes, Warriors, and Super Smash Bros. Ironically, the only game Corrin doesn't use breath attacks in was in Fates. That being said it, seems like Corrin was initially supposed to use a ranged breath attack, as there is a unused battle animation that shows Corrin attacking with a breath attack. The decision to scrap this attack was likely due to gameplay balancing. Furthermore, concept art of Corrin's dragon form shows that they are fully capable of of using their own breath attack.
  • Cain and Abel: Ends up playing the Abel to several of their siblings' Cain, depending on which route is chosen, although the siblings in question view them as the traitorous Cain. Sometimes they're able to resolve things peacefully. Sometimes they aren't.
  • Canon Name: In all supplementary material, Corrin is referred to by their default regional name. In English it's Corrin, while in Japanese it's Kamui.
  • Cassandra Truth: In Revelation, few characters are willing to believe Corrin's claims of a true enemy hiding behind the scenes due to their inability to provide any evidence other than their word.
  • Chainsaw Good: In Revelation, Corrin's sword, Yato, will evolve into a chainsword.
  • Character Customization: Their appearances (such as their body size, hair, face, facial features, etc.) can be customized by the player.
  • Character Development: All routes give Corrin different development due to the circumstances in question. To wit:
    • In Birthright, they grow more and more furious over the atrocities committed by Nohr, but at the same time, becomes all the more resolute in their idealistic beliefs. By the end of the route, they still remain firmly believing in their idealism, but they're much stronger mentally from where they started.
    • In Conquest, they join Nohr with the noble - if somewhat naive - intention of changing Nohr from within, believing that the war can end quickly if they change Garon for the better. Sadly, it doesn't work out, and Corrin soon realizes that the only way to save the continent from ruination while changing Nohr from the inside would be to go along with the plan to invade Hoshido. By the time the route reaches its climax, they go from a Wide-Eyed Idealist into somebody who reluctantly cast aside their own ideals in order to change the world for the better. It's to the point that when confronted by a possessed Takumi, Corrin doesn't even bother to justify their actions and instead accepts Takumi's rage without a second thought.
    • In Revelation, they get a mix of their Birthright and Conquest development. They are no longer naïve to the happenings of the world and become confident in themselves, but are still kindhearted and optimistic to a fault.
  • Child of Two Worlds: They were born in Hoshido, but raised in Nohr. They were actually born in Valla before moving to Hoshido when they were very young, meaning they're a child of THREE worlds.
  • The Chosen One: Is chosen by the Yato to wield it.
  • Classical Anti-Hero: Corrin, no matter the route, feels incredibly doubtful on if they're really doing the right thing with their choice, and generally has a lot of issues with the Yato choosing them when they don't know if they deserve it or not. Given their massive inexperience overall and the fact they have loved ones on both sides of the pond and that Nohr and Hoshido both have people just trying to survive the war, this is absolutely a justified sentiment.
  • Classy Cravat: Male Corrin gets one in his Nohr Noble getup, replacing the high collar of his original armor.
  • Cleavage Window: Female Corrin gets one in her Nohr Noble getup, which has an open breastplate.
  • Clothing Damage: If Corrin is felled in combat, their cape actually tears to shreds. This also has a chance of happening when they are critically wounded, and will remain this way until the end of the battle.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: Several women are introduced as being interested in Male Corrin and several more will reveal they've been into him for a while if he S-Supports them. He is blissfully unaware of any of their feelings.
  • Color Motif: They are associated with black and white, matching the games' theme of duality and choosing sides. Their dragon form and exclusive classes predominately feature both (or one, in the case of Hoshido Noble being white and Nohr Noble being black). In promotional materials (like the Cipher Card game), Male Corrin is more associated with white (and Hoshido) while Female Corrin is associated with black (and Nohr).
  • Conflicting Loyalty: Whatever path Corrin takes he or she is defined as always showing remorse and mercy towards the enemy nation; and is always hoping that both the Nohrians and the Hoshidans can achieve unity. In Birthright and Conquest, this is achieved at the cost of the lives of two siblings regardless of path. In Revelation, none of the siblings die and all siblings come to understand each other.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: As opposed to most main protagonists in Fire Emblem, "Corrin" is a player avatar. On top of that, unlike most protagonists, Corrin's default hair color is white, and isn't blue (like Marth, Sigurd, Seliph, Hector, Ike, Chrom, or Lucina), green (Alm, Lyn, Eirika, Ephraim), or red (Celica, Eliwood, and Roy).
  • Cool Mask: When the Dragon Fang skill activates a mask that looks like their dragon form's head appears over their face.
  • Cool Sword: Corrin wields the Yato, a sacred blade made eons ago that chooses its owner. It's Fates' version of the "Fire Emblem" that's used in other installments of the series. It can draw power from the other divine weapons to change shape and become more powerful. In total, it has seven separate forms throughout the game - a base one, and two different ones per route;
    • The Noble and Blazing forms in Birthright are a katana imbued with Light that offers strength and speed boosts.
    • The Grim and Shadow forms in Conquest are a sword imbued with Darkness that offers defense and resistance boosts.
    • The Alpha and Omega forms in Revelation are a blade imbued with both Dark and Light energies in the former state, and in the latter state becomes a fire-wreathed chainsaw-sword at the end of Revelation, which grants a large amount of Status Buffs and is able to kill a God.
  • Covert Pervert:
    • Male Corrin doesn't seem like the type to enjoy invading others' privacy or gawk at people inappropriately, as he's too much of a Nice Guy and will hightail it out of the Hot Spring if he accidentally walks in on the girls using it. However, during his S-Support with Azura, he admits that he was enjoying the view when he unintentionally stumbles onto her while she's in the middle of a bath. Furthermore, if he S-Supports with Camilla, he reveals that he did actually notice how "stunningly attractive" his adopted sister was on more than one occasion - enough to make his adolescence feel, in his own words, "confusing to say the least".
    • In Nina's A-Support with her mother, Nina's mother says Corrin (regardless of gender) apparently found Nina's diaries interesting. Nina's diaries are either full of espionage tactics or (potentially erotic) male/male fantasies, so it's unclear which parts Corrin was reading.
  • Cultured Badass: Male Corrin isn't just a skilled warrior. He can play the piano, likes poetry, is well-versed in philosophy, and is even said to learn how to sing if he marries Azura.
  • Cutting Off the Branches: If Heirs of Fate and the box-art of both Birthright and Conquest are anything to go by, Male Corrin canonically sides with Hoshido while Female Corrin sides with Nohr. Which chooses neither is more ambiguous.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: If Corrin chooses to side with Nohr, they effectively becomes this trope incarnate: on top of getting the Nohr Noble class, a Nohrian-aligned Corrin's defining quality is their virtually unrivaled compassion. It's even more telling that they joins Nohr to fix it from within as opposed to changing it by force, all fueled by a noble — if somewhat naive — ideal of being an Internal Reformist. Granted, things go Off the Rails for them, but major points for trying anyways.
  • Deceptive Disciple: In Conquest, Corrin's plan was always to unmask Garon as the undead monster he was by using Hoshido's throne while superficially appearing to be loyal to Nohr's cause. This disguise is pushed to the limits as Corrin is forced to fight and kill Hoshidans, and is unable to save Ryoma from Garon nor Takumi from Anankos.
  • Declaration of Protection: Some of Male Corrin's S-supports have him giving, and often receiving, one to the other character, such as Azura, Kagero, Hinoka, and Sakura.
  • Delightful Dragon: Corrin is one of the most friendliest dragons in the Fire Emblem series, but there's a limit to that friendliness, as both Hans and Iago found out.
  • Determinator: Corrin will not let anything stop them from ending the war. The endgames of two of the three routes involve their sword being broken and them getting mortally wounded, but despite that they still try to get back up and keep fighting.
  • Developers' Desired Date: Male Corrin and Azura to each other as a result of their evolving relationship and Ship Tease. She also has a different confession depending on the route, which is unique to her, different support chains with him, which is also unique, and one of the fastest support growth rates in the game with him. However, players are still free to pair up Corrin with whoever they want through the Support System.
  • Divine Parentage: While Corrin's mother is human, their father is not. Anankos was worshiped as a god by the Vallites and has the god-like power to back it up. If his class description is any indication he was even considered a god among dragons. In a sense, this makes Corrin a demigod/dess. They never learn of this, however.
  • Doom Magnet: Corrin tends to attract a lot of death. To wit: their adoptive father Sumeragi, their birth mother Mikoto, (potentially) Kaze, Elise, Lilith, and Scarlet all die protecting them in different routes of the game.
  • Dork Knight: Whether it be their cheerfulness, or naivety, they surely fit the bill, especially the Male.
  • Dude Magnet: Female Corrin attracts a ton of attention from the male members of the army, with around half a dozen implicitly having crushes on her regardless of who she ends up with.
  • Easily Forgiven:
    • Whether on Birthright or Conquest, whichever royal family Corrin turned on is surprisingly lax about forgiving them for their actions during the war. This is justified due to the royals seeing Corrin's compassionate nature up-front and understand their own personal reasons for choosing the opposite side. Furthermore, it isn't as though the people at large have forgiven them, however: at the end of Birthright and Conquest, the losing-side's population has a very negative opinion on Corrin.
    • Averted in Revelation. Numerous characters on both sides are outright pissed on their decision to Take a Third Option (Sakura and Elise being the exceptions), and need time, persuasion from a third-partynote , or found proof on their own (in the case with Leo) to forgive/trust them.
  • Fatal Flaw: Their kindness and naivete. Throughout each route, a lot of problems are derived from Corrin being too nice and trusting.
  • Foil:
    • To their cousin, Azura. Corrin and Azura lived pretty similar yet opposite lives. Both were kidnapped at a young age and raised in opposite kingdoms. With Corrin living the life meant for Azura and vise-versa. Azura was also well aware of her capture while Corrin was oblivious. Since Corrin was raised away from the world they didn't have to experience people being prejudice towards them. Azura, however was hated in Nohr because she and her mother were seen as replacements for the late Queen Katerina. When Azura was in Hoshido, she was accepted by many people but she was also hated by many and even had people attempt to assassinate her. Since Azura was treated so badly in Nohr, she has a hard time seeing the good in it. Unlike Azura, Corrin remains unbiased and sees that Nohr has its flaws but realizes there are good things about Nohr. This is shown in their Birthright support chain. In the support Azura is shocked that Corrin enjoyed their time in Nohr, but despite her views of Nohr she at least tries to understand Corrin's love for Nohr. Corrin and Azura's personalities were ultimately shaped by their pasts. For example, despite never being allowed outside and being subjected to cruel punishments, Corrin was also shown a lot of love from, Jakob, Felicia, Flora, Gunter, Lilith, and their Nohrian siblings. Considering the love they were shown, and the fact they've always felt they belonged it's no wonder they develop into a sociable, and trusting person. While Azura's past caused her to be more reserved, cynical, and lonely. Even their respective roles in the army mirror each other. Corrin acts as the heart being approachable and charismatic while Azura acts as the brains who's a bit distant but makes smart decisions.
    • To Kana. Corrin seems to prefer fighting with Yato over their dragon powers. Kana, however seems to be the opposite and prefers using their dragon powers. For example, Corrin opts to fight with Yato during story cut-scenes and they do not bring up their dragon powers very often. While Kana brings up their dragon powers and transforms very often in their supports, they're also very fond of their Dragonstone, and are even given the nickname Dragon Spawn by Rhajat and their solo ending. This can be justified by the fact that Corrin trained the majority of their lives using swords. Yato being a sacred weapon and it being prophesied to help the wielder save the world is probably a major factor as well. In Kana's case they're a small child, being a dragon helps them defend themselves from enemies, and it's pretty easy to see why a child would love being a dragon. In the Heirs of Fates DLC both Kanas end up wielding the Yato but unlike Corrin, who's the protagonist of the main story, they take on the role of being a supporting protagonist to Shigure.
  • For Great Justice: Corrin greatly believes in the ideal of justice, and their desire to fight for a just cause is one reason why they decide to fight in the war as soon as Chapter 1. This is a source of woe in Conquest since they are fully aware that they will have do some morally questionable things to end the war.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Aside from being unusually charismatic and attracting people to them, Corrin is also mentioned to have a way with animals. In the first chapter, it's mentioned that the horses are fond of them since they spent so much time in the stables, and Camilla remembers how they once rescued an injured baby bird (which was actually Lilith) and nursed it back to health.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: At least from the perspective of Anankos in Revelation, since Corrin's decision to side with neither side in the war ends with them being declared a traitor by both and on the run, with their only supporters being either their butler or maid, depending on their gender, and Azura, a Songstress. But it also means taking refuge in Valla to escape, which allows Azura to freely share with them the true nature of the conflict and Anankos' role in propagating it, something she isn't able to do in the other two routes thanks to the curse, and Corrin also ends up finding Gunter alive and well there as well, though unaware of his status as a Manchurian Agent under Anankos' control. Finally, it sets them on the path to not only uniting both Nohr and Hoshido against him and invading Valla to free it from his control, but also allows the Yato to reach its most powerful form thanks to combining the powers of the Divine Weapons of both sides into the Omega Yato, turning it into the Seal of Flames, and a weapon that is strong enough to kill Anankos directly.

    G-N
  • The Gadfly: They often tease others, but it's done in a lighthearted and friendly way. This is a little more prominent with Female Corrin, as she enjoys making Asugi flustered (she finds his reactions cute) and tells Ignatius ghost stories to purposefully scare him.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: Despite Corrin being Weak, but Skilled mentioned below, it's possible to be the opposite instead, with a Strength Boon, Skill Bane
  • Gender-Blender Name: In the localization, if Corrin is a girl. "Kamui" can be for men or women, but "Corrin" is a strictly-male name. Can be subverted if one spells Corrin's name like "Corrine", derived from the Greek Korrina which means 'Maiden'.
  • Girl in the Tower: Or Boy In the Tower, if male. They've been imprisoned in Nohr castle ever since Garon captured them and are never allowed to stray beyond its walls. The start of the game is the first time they've actually seen the outside world.
  • Girlish Pigtails: One of the many hairstyles you can give Female Corrin through Character Customization.
  • Girly Bruiser: Female Corrin comes across as this. She's as battle-hardened as her male counterpart, but her female-specific support with characters like Caeldori show that she enjoys girly things like romance novels.
  • Glass Cannon: The Nohr Noble class has high HP, Magic, Strength, Speed, and Resistance growth and max stats, at the cost of Defense, Skill, and Luck.
  • Good Is Not Dumb: As kind and naïve as they are, Corrin is not stupid. They clearly don't buy Garon's claims that he wasn't trying to kill them with Ganglari on Conquest, and on Birthright they'll actually list the event as one of the reasons for their defection. In Revelation, they aren't fooled by Anthony's deception, pretend to go along with it and effectively out-gambit him, and later correctly deduce Scarlet's killer based off something only they would know. It also, provided the player sees through it, stops them from falling into an Anankos-possessed Mikoto's trap with the doors during the battle against her in the basement of Castle Gyges.
  • Good Is Not Soft: They're no pushover, either. Before the route split, they stand their ground against Garon and, with their dragon powers, intimidate Hans into talking about his assassination attempt, and afterwards they prove they're willing to resort to threats if it can get the job done — even on the lighter route, Birthright.
  • The Good King: The epilogue of Revelation states that they become a wise ruler after becoming king/queen of Valla.
  • Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: In their various versions in Heroes, male Corrin is usually the one to use a physical weapon while female Corrin uses magic and much prefers her dragon transformation.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: They are half dragon and half human. The human half comes from their mother Mikoto, while the dragon half comes from their father Anankos.
  • Happily Adopted: Applies in both Conquest and the third path, as it's noted that Corrin is close with their adopted siblings in Nohr (partly due to the fact that they don't remember being kidnapped when they were little). Obviously subverted if you choose to side with Hoshido. Given that Corrin is also not related to their Hoshido siblings by blood, this also applies to their Hoshido family on both Birthright and the third path.
  • Harmful to Minors: They watched their step-father Sumeragi being murdered as a young child.
  • Hartman Hips: Female Corrin has a narrow waist and wide hips in her default body built that are her most prominent body features along with her legs, as shown here and here.
  • Hazy-Feel Turn: Can be this if Corrin decides to side with Hoshido, but keep in mind that neither Hoshido nor Nohr are outright evil.
  • The Heart: Evolves into this for Hoshido and Nohr. Played even straighter in the third path, having united all of their siblings (and almost everyone else from the other two paths) under their leadership late in the game.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: Players are free to name their Corrin however they please.
  • Heritage Face Turn: They grew up in Nohr, but were actually kidnapped from Hoshido as children. A war breaks out between Hoshido and Nohr soon after. The Birthright route has them side with their native Hoshidan family, whose members they haven't known for very long at that point, playing the trope straight. The Conquest route has them side with Nohr instead, subverting this trope.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Happens inevitably with the faction you don't choose to side with. Granted, while the royal siblings don't hold too many hard feelings against Corrin once the war is over, the rest of the common populace isn't that forgiving:
    • In Birthright, Corrin is reviled in Nohr for their betrayal even as they side with Hoshido to dethrone King Garon. This has eased up somewhat come the end of the route, where King Leo and Camilla seek to help clear up any misconceptions about the Hoshidans.
    • Corrin is hit with this the hardest in Conquest, where their decision to side with conquerors to protect their family gets them utter indignation in Hoshido, to the point that upon returning to Shirasagi, Hoshido's capital, you're greeted with the Hoshidan populace jeering you as a traitor. It's only the end of the route that Queen Hinoka makes abundantly clear that while she and Sakura forgive Corrin for their efforts to salvage the situation and will work to clear up any remaining hatred, the process won't be easy and it isn't safe for Corrin to visit Hoshido so hotly fresh after the war.
    • Seemingly played straight in Revelation where both sides hate you for not picking one, but is slowly subverted as you painstakingly work to save both sides from the conflict. It works; you unify both sides against the true enemy of Valla by the end of it.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Their weapon is the dark blade Ganglari and later Yato, which in the case of the latter turns out to be Fates' Fire Emblem in Revelation.
  • Heroic BSoD:
    • Lilith's death in Birthright. By this point in the story, Corrin's already had to turn against and fight their beloved siblings in Nohr, witnessed countless war crimes and atrocities committed by Garon's forces, been forced to wipe out the Ice Tribe and watch their good friend Flora horrifically kill herself, forced to commit genocide (in-self defense) on the Wolfskins due to Iago's manipulations, potentially saw one of their best friends die to save them (provided that you did not A-Rank with Kaze), and was just forced to fight and nearly kill their beloved adoptive sister. Lilith's death clearly sends them over the edge, almost hitting the Despair Event Horizon, and it takes all their mental fortitude to keep going.
    • It still happens in Conquest, as it's heavily implied that Corrin wasn't even going to try fighting off the Faceless responsible before Xander took care of it.
    • Ryoma's death in Conquest. While Lilith still did die, Corrin had not had as much personal loss, and isn't as broken. However, watching their older brother commit Heroic Suicide in front of them, to save them, after they'd invaded and destroyed his nation, fills them with such guilt, horror, and sorrow that they barely make it out of the room before collapsing into tears. The way they verbally beat themselves up is a very clear indicator that whatever optimism was left in them is gone, and had Azura not been acting as a Living Emotional Crutch, they likely would have given up.
    • They also get a couple moments of this in Revelation, but not enough to make them nearly cross the Despair Event Horizon. Specifically the deaths of both Izana and Scarlet.
  • Heroic Build: As shown in the Hot Spring scenes, Male Corrin is pretty ripped, and if he walks in on Soleil in there, she will comment that he has "nice abs".
    • Also apparent with Dream Prince model.
    • Alternatively, they can be this with anyone else if they A+ rank with other people (except gay options) and access their class.
  • The High Queen: Female Corrin will become this at the end of Revelation. Alternatively, she'll become this after marrying Ryoma or Xander on Birthright or Conquest, respectively.
  • Hidden Buxom: Female Corrin's body is usually completely covered by her armor, but she is shown to have a very mature physique when seen in a swimsuit in Fire Emblem Heroes. A card in Fire Emblem Cipher's last set also has her in lingerie trying to pick a swimsuit to wear, with her undergarments also clearly showing off her large breasts - being more well-endowed in this department than her equally-covered-up predecessor Robin.
  • Hime Cut: One of the many hairstyles you can give Female Corrin through Character Customization is this triple part style of long hair, even bangs and sidelocks. It is fitting for a Princess of Nohr/Hoshido.
  • I Am Who?: Corrin was raised believing themselves to be a prince(ss) of Nohr by blood, not adoption. They're quite surprised to learn the truth.
  • Ignorance Is Bliss: Corrin's father believed in this, which is why he asked Mikoto and Lilith to never reveal their origins. As a result, Lilith also keeps her identity as Corrin's sister a secret, since that's also related to that topic.
  • I Have to Go Iron My Dog: Their C-support with Felicia has them escaping the conversation like this.
Corrin: Oh! Look! A Faceless! I have to go.
  • I'm Going to Hell for This: In Conquest, they admit as such in their supports with Azura. Tortured by a crisis of morality and having recurring nightmares about the Hoshidans that have died as a result of their choice, they fully believe they'll most likely go to Hell for their actions.
  • Incest Subtext: Played with. All of Corrin's Nohrian and Hoshidan siblings are extremely devoted to them, and can fall in love with them through the support system. With the Nohr siblings there's a bit of a pass since they're not blood related which is revealed to be the case with the Hoshidan siblings too. However, Male Corrin's Implied Love Interest is his actual relative, his cousin Azura. They only learn of their family ties towards the end of the Revelation path, and not at all in Conquest or Birthright.
  • Informed Attribute: According to one of Kaze's lines when he first enters their room, Corrin is apparently great on the piano.
  • Informed Deformity: If Peri is in the Hot Springs with a Female Corrin, she will comment that the latter's body is covered in scars - enough to make her giddy - though this isn't reflected by her character model. Of course, it's possible that they've just faded too much to see outside of very close inspection.
  • In-Series Nickname: Xander often refers to them as "little prince/princess" in the localization. It has shades of being an Affectionate Nickname, but in Birthright it slides into Terms of Endangerment, as he will still call them this with great anger over their choice to side with Hoshido.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Corrin was raised away from the world, and while kind-hearted, occasionally makes a comment or question that seems normal to them, but insults the other person.
    • Taken to a potentially dark degree in Birthright and Conquest, in which they believe they can resume a family dynamic with whichever family they didn't side with now that the war is over, despite the fact that said family loses half its members while the family that was sided with remains whole and happy. Even if they will likely get to that point of forgiveness someday, the family on the receiving end of this isn't likely going to be that receptive of you quite so soon.
  • Interspecies Romance: Corrin will have this with all their potential love interests due to being half dragon and half human.
  • Irony:
    • In chapter 7 of the Revelation path Azura and Corrin jump into the Bottomless Canyon to enter Valla. The custscene shows the former is calm while the latter is panicking and flailing their arms. What makes this ironic is Corrin can turn into a dragon at this point and is able to fly. Somewhat justified if you consider Corrin just recently got the ability and isn't used to being a dragon quite yet.
    • Not as negative an example as many others, but Corrin themself is associated with Water, yet the final form of the Yato in Revelation is a Fire Blade.
  • Kirin: Corrin's dragon form in Fire Emblem Fates appears to be at least partially based on a kirin, having antlers, an ungulate posture, and having knuckles reminiscent of animal hooves.
  • Kissing Cousins: With Azura and/or her children should they marry. Azura's mother, Queen Arete of Nohr, was the older sister of Corrin's mother, Queen Mikoto of Hoshido. Neither of them are aware of this, and they don't find out until rather late in Revelation. If Corrin and Azura are still single by this point they can still marry even after finding out their family relation.
  • Lady of War: Female Corrin. In combat she's reserved and cool-headed, uses graceful flips, and her official artwork even has her wielding the Yato in an elegant pose.
  • The Leader: As the protagonist, for whatever side they side with especially in the third path where everyone in Corrin's party acknowledges them as the leader.
  • Leotard of Power: Female Corrin as a Nohr Noble has a high cut leotard under her armor and exposed at the thighs. The Hoshido Noble promotion has the same leotard, but the loincloth that comes with it hides it from the front.
  • Lethal Chef: Per the series' tradition with its Player Characters, Corrin can't cook at all. They manage to burn tea in their supports with Jakob, and are implied to produce food that tastes like steel (they were taught to cook by Gunter, who can't cook either). On the other hand, while they are awful at cooking and making tea, it's revealed that Female Corrin is a fairly skilled baker in her support conversations with Dwyer.
  • Likes Older Women: If the player chooses to marry them to the middle-aged Reina, Orochi, Yukimura, Fuga, or Shura or the even older Gunter.
  • Logical Weakness: Being half-dragon, dragon-slaying weapons inflict bonus damage against Corrin regardless of what class they are. Any children they may have will also be subject to this weakness.
  • Love at First Sight:
    • A possible way to interpret Male Corrin's relationship with Azura, as they become very close very soon after meeting and have one of the fastest support growths in game.
    • Several S-supports also feature this, notable examples being Silas, Rinkah, Sakura, and Camilla who all have the concept of falling in love with Corrin from the start in their Supports.
  • Lovecraftian Superpower: Corrin can partially transform into their dragon form with Dragon Fang, morphing their limbs into grotesque appendages for offensive purposes.
  • Made of Iron: Corrin, in several cutscenes, will wind up getting beat and slashed by others, though it doesn't slow them down much.
  • Magic Knight: Corrin can utilize swords as well as transform into a dragonnote . Once promoted, they can also wield either magical tomes or staves.
  • Magnetic Hero: Corrin has a great amount of charisma, which draws people to them, and their personal skill makes units who have at least a C-support with them fight better in battle.
  • Making a Splash: Corrin's dragon form is associated with water. Their dragon form even has puddles of water and water bubbles emerge beneath them during battle. This is due to their father, Anankos, being a Silent Dragon, who can manipulate water.
  • Mama Bear: Or Papa Wolf if male. Because if you mess with their kids, they will end you.
Corrin: YOU! You dare touch my child?! I'll soak these fields with your blood!
  • Mark of the Supernatural: Has red eyes with slit pupils with pointed ears, and the default look having white hair leading to them having a supernatural look.
  • May–December Romance: Corrin is a relatively young adult, and the player can set a female Corrin up to marry Gunter, who is in his twilight years of life. Also, all of the second generation (except Kana) can be romanced by Corrin, who's old enough to be their parent (and in Female Corrin's case, can be, if she marries their father).
  • Meaningful Appearance: According to the creators, the reason Corrin goes barefoot is to give them a bit of an animalistic side with the dragon part of them.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • The default Japanese name, "Kamui", could be read as "powerful." Seeing as how they have the combined traits of the Lord, Avatar, and Dragon Transformations from past Fire Emblem games, it is very fitting.
    • Kamui is also the word used for Ainu divinities as well altaic shamans. Not surprising, given that most previous Fire Emblem protagonists were closely connected to the local divinities.
    • Corrin, the default name of the Avatar in the English version, is a variant of the name Quirinus, an epithet of the dual-faced god Janus. Fitting for a Child of Two Worlds such as Corrin. Additionally, there's many other possible origins of the name Corrin, far too many to list on this page without taking up a very large amount of space.
    • Corrin's name sounds very similar to "Kore", Persephone's old name from Greek Mythology. If you compare Corrin's backstory with Persephone's, they're almost identical. Especially if we're talking about Female Corrin.
  • Middle Child Syndrome: While Corrin is the third eldest child out of five in both his or her Hoshidan and Nohrian families, this is strongly inverted by both families, who care deeply for him or her to the point of being willing to go to war over them.
  • Morality Chain: Can be considered one for Ryoma, Takumi, Xander and Leo. On the routes where they oppose Corrin, the lack of Corrin in their lives causes their demeanor and attitudes to change drastically for the worse, especially Takumi and Xander.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Ryoma's suicide in Conquest causes them to have a breakdown where they blame what just happened on their actions up until that point.
  • Near-Death Experience: The final boss in both Birthright and Conquest will severely injure Corrin, nearly killing them. After receiving encouragement from all their dead loved ones during each route, Corrin will come back to start the final battle.
  • Nerf: While this Corrin, like Robin, can potentially be (almost) any class, they do not have access to every class at the start. They get a secondary class the player chooses, then one more class from a Partner Seal, and uniquely in the game, can use a Friendship Seal to reclass to the primary class of any character they have an A-support with (or the secondary, if the character's primary is Songstress, Kitsune, or Wolfskin). It's currently unclear if this applies to all A-supports, or just same-sex ones; either way, it's a huge range of classes, provided you have enough Buddy Seals. Incidentally, they can turn into a dragon, one of the few things Robin could never do.
    • Additionally, while their dragon form still functions well as a tank, it's much less powerful offensively than previous dragons; it can't double, reduces their Speed and Skill, runs off their naturally lower Magic stat, and can't attack at range.
  • Neutrality Backlash: In Revelation, Corrin doesn't want to upset either Hoshido or Nohr by choosing one over the other and intends to unite them. Unfortunately the indecision to side with any kingdom sparks off hostility from both kingdoms, even when they are supposedly warring against each other. It takes the more compassionate members of both sides to convince the others that Corrin is not their enemy and it snowballs from there.
  • Nice Guy:
    • Corrin is possibly one of the kindest and most forgiving lords in the franchise, rivaling the likes of Eliwood and Marth. In their supports, Corrin is almost always helping or playing therapist to other characters in the army, and their general attitude—when they don't feel mischievous—is one of politeness and humility. Xander even tells them they're too nice for their own good—and, to an extent, he's right. Caeldori sums it up well in her S-Support:
Caeldori: You always put the needs of others before your own. Even when dangerous, you choose mercy, compassion, and kindness over all else.
    • While all the variations of Corrin are very compassionate, their interpretation in Conquest really takes the cake. They're exceptionally loyal to their Nohrian family, but the same time, goes out of their way to help spare as many enemy combatants as possible, even when doing so causes them tons of stress. What's more is that Nohrrin seems to be the most nuanced and notable example of an All-Loving Hero, specifically choosing to side with Nohr because they refuse to destroy the kingdom over a tyrant that may or may not be subjected to change.
  • Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: Usually in Fire Emblem games, the Lord, the customizable unit, and the unit who can turn into a dragon are all separate characters. In Fates, Corrin is all three.
  • No Social Skills: Corrin is a fairly forward individual who sees nothing wrong with behavior others would label "unconventional", such as shouting in a public area. This can be chalked up to their reclusive childhood not giving them the chance to develop normal social skills. Despite this, they still manage to get along with people well enough.
  • Not Blood Siblings: Corrin is the lovechild of Mikoto and Anankos, and Sumeragi didn't have any children with Mikoto—the Hoshidan royals are all his children with another woman. This is only discovered by S-Supporting with any of the Hoshidan siblings—who will either find a letter left by Mikoto stating the truth, or know ahead of time—or by playing Revelation.

    O-Z
  • Oblivious to Love: Male Corrin has around half a dozen ladies that can potentially be crushing on him, but he never notices until they flat-out tell him. Camilla and Rhajat drop some very obvious hints about being into him, Hinoka and Felicia have liked him for some time, and Sakura and Azura are implied to fall for him after meeting him for the first time. His failure to notice is Justified given his isolated upbringing and lack of real social interaction.
  • Only I Can Kill Him: The Yato is the only weapon capable of damaging Anankos, so Corrin, being its wielder, is the only one who can kill him. Other characters can land the killing blow in the boss battles proper, but the Yato is only weapon that the Dragonskin skill is somewhat weak to.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Their dragon form takes a lot of cues from the qilin, save for it being associated with water instead of fire.
  • The Paladin: Their promotion on the Hoshido path, Hoshido Noble, gives them a predominantly white attire and also access to staves in addition to their swords and dragonstones. Contrast their more offensively oriented (and predominantly black-colored) Nohr promotion, Nohr Noble.
  • Partial Transformation: When Corrin's personal Skill, Dragon Fang, activates, they turn their head into that of their dragon form, turn one of their arms into a spear, and then into a mouth to blast their enemies.
  • Pointy Ears: They have these; which further adds to the fact that they're not quite fully human, being the Half-Human Hybrid child of Mikoto and the dragon god King Anankos.
  • The Pollyanna: Rain or shine, Corrin is a perpetual optimist and is rarely in a bad mood. This trait endures throughout Birthright and Revelation (though in the latter, it gets somewhat tempered, due to the dire situation at hand since Anankos was seeking to destroy humanity), but gets utterly crushed in Conquest.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    "This ends now!"
    "I won't surrender!"
    "You won't stop me!"
    "For Hoshido!" (Birthright)
    "For Nohr!" (Conquest)
"I make my own fate!" (Revelation)
  • Prefers Going Barefoot: Corrin is barefoot at all times, always. Word of God states that due to their Dragon blood, their feet are much tougher than those of regular humans, so footwear is simply not necessary. True to form, virtually all of their variants in Heroes are barefoot, even the seasonal ones. As Sharena points out in a few of Corrin's "Meet Some of the Heroes" entries, it just wouldn't be Corrin if they weren't barefoot.
  • Protectorate: On their quest, Corrin will find themselves under the complete protection of their chosen royal family and several other companions.
  • Realpolitik: An extremely refreshing variant shown in Conquest. Despite joining up with the idealistic if naïve intent of becoming an Internal Reformist, they're quickly forced to confront the reality that what they want to achieve is impossible without risking their death and the world's fate on it, and are forced to put aside their own ideals in order to do the necessary thing and invade Hoshido as the safer option, even if - in their own words - "everyone else hates [me for it]". This insight ultimately proves to be the right call, in no short part due to Garon No-Selling the Grim Yato, and the sword's ultimate form only being unlocked with the unconditional trust of Xander, whom himself is steeped in even more doubt and abuse-trauma than Corrin or any other Nohrian Royal was.
  • Recurring Element: The customizable character / player avatar of the game, in line with Kris and Robin. Unlike the two, Corrin doubles as the main Lord, instead of being devoted to Marth or Chrom respectively. This also gives Corrin traits of both archetypes.
    • Like Robin before them, Corrin is (by default) a white haired Badass Abnormal Player Character with a unique class, hazy memories, an Implied Love Interest in the blue-haired other protagonist (or protagonists in one case) of their respective games, a child of the opposite sex, and have some sort of connection to the evil dragon god Big Bad (vessel and relative respectively).
    • Personality-wise, Corrin is similar to main Lords like Marth and Chrom: they admire their older siblings, are both very kind and supportive to their younger sisters (Lissa for Chrom, Elise and Sakura for Corrin), treat the people they meet like equals, have issues with social situations, are willing to trust and recruit some strange, shady, or even formerly hostile individuals, and are chosen by the divine swords of their worlds. Which can be wielded by their main child, Lucina for Falchion, and both Kanas for Yato as shown in the Heirs of Fate DLC In fact, the they get along swimmingly with Chrom in the Before Awakening DLC, and Corrin themselves comments on how alike they were. Chrom leaves wishing he could have a friend like them before directly coming across Robin.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Red to Azura's Blue. Corrin isn't exactly hot-headed, but they do tend to make decisions based off their hearts instead of their heads, as well as being openly emotive.
  • Reincarnation: Maybe, maybe not. The Awakening DLC implies that they are the past life/reincarnation of Robin, and Kana's skinship sessions implies that not only is Corrin Robin's previous/future life, but also that Kana is the previous/future life of Morgan. However, it could be that these are just Mythology Gags that are directed at the player themselves and not the character.
  • Reincarnation Romance: If the player has Corrin pursue a S-support with Asugi/Gaius, Caeldori/Cordelia or Rhajat/Tharja.
  • Rookie Red Ranger: In Birthright, due to Ryoma going missing early on, Corrin is looked to as a leader and vanguard in battle despite still being very new to the conflict. Even after Ryoma returns, they remain a key figure with equal authority.
    • In Conquest, Corrin is placed in direct command of the invasion of Hoshido by King Garon, with even Xander being subordinate to them, because he is impressed by their skill in combat. It's actually because of his Anankos-given directive to make Corrin suffer as much as possible by forcing them to lead the invasion of the homeland they betrayed, even though as Corrin themselves point out, they're not really the best choice to be leading the Nohrian army.
  • Royalty Superpower: As a descendant of the First Dragons, and in fact the direct child of Anankos, they are able to use Dragon Vein, which will be inherited by any child they become a parent of.
  • Semi-Divine: Due to being a descendant of the First Dragons and the direct child of Anankos, the Silent Dragon God, Corrin is by technicality a demigod. They never learn of this, however.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Male Corrin is the Sensitive Guy to both his older brothers Ryoma and Xander
  • Shared Family Quirks: Orochi states in her support with Ryoma that Mikoto was very fond of sweets just like Corrin. Corrin also inherits Anankos's apologetic attitude. Several characters such as Fuga note how Corrin has the same personalty as their adopted father Sumeragi.
  • She-Fu: This normally-female trope actually applies to both genders. Corrin might be the most acrobatic lord in the series; their fighting style incorporates many flips, graceful spins, jumping sword strikes, and rolls.
  • Sheltered Aristocrat: Corrin's naivety after being locked up in a tower turns up every now and then in supports, and is the reason behind their kindness and trustfulness.
  • Ship Tease:
    • Male Corrin gets heavily teased with Azura, especially in Chapter 5 where an old lady mistakes her for his girlfriend, she is the one to snap him out of his draconic rage, and they talk about how much they trust and feel comfortable around each other.
    • The drama CD and the Crown of Nibelungen manga both tease Female Corrin with Leo here and there.
  • Sibling Team: Corrin can form one with any of the Hoshidan royals on the Birthright or Revelation paths, but it's actually subverted, as Corrin is Not Blood Siblings with them.
  • Significant Double Casting: Male Corrin shares both of his default voice actors with his father Anankos' human form.
  • Sixth Ranger Traitor: For the Hoshidans, should Corrin side with Nohr—they reunited with their original family after years of absence, only to turn on them and side with their conquerors.
  • Skilled, but Naive: Corrin is well-known to be naïve despite their skill, as Rinkah and several others refer to them as "that sheltered Nohrian prince(ss)".
  • The So-Called Coward: In the "Conquest" route in Fates, "coward" is one of the accusations a grieving Ryoma hurls at Corrin when he believes Corrin has murdered Hinoka and assumes before Corrin starts that their efforts to "explain" will only be feigned remorse meant to avoid fighting Ryoma. Only later does Ryoma find out that Corrin truthfully only faked Hinoka's murder and has been trying to protect Ryoma.
  • Spectacular Spinning: A fair amount of their battle animations involve twirling their sword, somersaulting, and spinning.
  • Spin Attack: If using a normal attack, Corrin will make an Unnecessary Combat Roll before striking with one. If using a skill such as Lethality, then it becomes a diving thrust version.
  • Spock Speak: Mostly played straight for Male Corrin and subverted for Female Corrin.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: If they S-support, then Male Corrin and Azura. He always loses her in the Birthright and Conquest routes, as she turns into water either right in front of him or off-screen due to overusing the power of her amulet and "Lost in Thoughts All Alone". Happily averted in Revelation, however, where Azura gets to survive and they live together happily.
    • In Revelation, if Male Corrin S-Supports Scarlet, this will happen in a span of two chapters before she's killed by a possessed Gunter.
  • Stepford Smiler: Implied on the Conquest route, especially in their supports with Azura where they fret over their choice. Though this doesn't do anything to deter them from the path they've chosen.
  • Strategy Versus Tactics: Unlike Robin, Corrin is good with the latter but not the former. While their charisma makes them an excellent leader in skirmishes and Male Corrin's support with Shiro show he's good at discerning an immediate opponent's strengths and weaknesses, both genders lack the vision to handle large-scale battles. Their supports with Leo in particular showcases this difference, with Corrin being upset at their inability to command large forces and Leo upset as his inability to command small ones.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Their default appearance has a strong resemblance to their mother Mikoto, particularly the shape of their eyes, nose and face. An early concept of Corrin revealed that their default hair was originally going to be black, which they likely inherited from their mother. Through Character Customization they can be given black hair, and a beauty mark to make the resemblance go even further.
    • Give them the right shade of blue and their hair is almost (if not exactly) the same shade as Human form Anankos' hair color. Female Corrin can even look quite similar to Lilith this way, too. Makes sense, Lilith is, in a sense, Corrin's sister.
  • Strong and Skilled: At the end of each campaign. Corrin initially starts off as Weak, but Skilled, but by the final battle of each route they have defeated armies, completed the Rainbow Sages trials, improved their swordsmanship, gained familiarity with their draconic abilities, and gained access to the empowered forms of Yato.
  • Superpowerful Genetics: They have the ability to transform into a dragon, shift parts of their body into dragon like appendages, and have access to Dragon Veins, which allows them to alter certain terrains. However, these powers also come at the cost of a permanent weakness to dragon slaying weapons. All this is inherited from their father, the Dragon God Anankos.
  • Survivor's Guilt: Never outright stated, but it's implied they suffer from this, due to Sumeragi and Mikoto dying to protect them. Their supports with characters like Kaze and Yukimura have them apologizing for surviving Garon's ambush when Sumeragi did not—something they had no control over—they often express doubt over their own worthiness, and they downright panic if they're ever forced to leave allies behind. Depending on the route, they may have to watch even more of their loved ones sacrifice themselves for them, and express a great deal of anguish over that as well.
  • Sweet Baker: Female Corrin is the only Avatar with any ability in any form of food preparation, specifically baking (and nothing else). Corrin is also the sweetest, nicest, and most feminine Avatar, regardless of gender.
  • Sweet Tooth: Several of their supports include them handing candy to the other person, implying they love sweets and keep some on them at all times. Jakob also mentions making some for them in his supports with Effie.
  • Sword Plant: Female Corrin's victory pose has her stab her sword into the ground.
  • Tears of Joy: Female Corrin responds with these after listening to Kaze's love confession in the S-support.
  • Textile Work Is Feminine: In the Crown... manga, Female Corrin is a quite good seamstress.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Senseless murder and cruelty tend to cause this reaction in them. The earliest manifestation of their dragon powers occurs when Hans throws Gunter off a bridge just for being in the way.
  • Token Good Teammate: In Conquest, Corrin ends up helping Nohr invade Hoshido and works for Garon. While this eventually allows them to kill Garon, they have to do a lot of unsavory things under his orders and betray their birth family to do so.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: A female Corrin is both in Birthright, relatively speaking anyways; she is the Tomboy to Sakura, but the Girly Girl to Hinoka.
  • Trauma-Induced Amnesia: It is implied that the trauma of watching Garon murder their father Sumeragi right in front of them as a child might have played at least some role in why they have no memory of their life before being kidnapped.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: Corrin's dragon powers first manifest after they see Hans (seemingly) killing Gunter. They later fully transform into a dragon for the first time after seeing Mikoto take a fatal attack.
  • Trying Not to Cry: In late Conquest, when Ryoma kills himself in front of them, they hit a point where they need to walk away and verbally remind themselves that crying now would ruin their facade as Garon's obedient, coldhearted child. It doesn't work, and they shed several chapters' worth of Tears of Remorse.
  • Tyke Bomb:
    • Following their abduction, they were raised to be loyal to Nohr and trained in the art of combat so that they may be of use to Garon. Either way, it fails big time no matter what path is chosen as no matter what, Corrin's actions bring about his death.
    • If the possessed Gunter's dialogue in Revelation is any indication, his original reason for becoming Corrin's caretaker was to co-opt Garon's new tool and turn it against him to get revenge for his family's death. However, he became attached to them and abandoned this plan - and yet, ironically, since Corrin will still end up causing Garon's death regardless of what path they take, Gunter still got what he wanted anyway.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: More or less how a good chunk of Hoshidans view a Nohr-Aligned Corrin for siding with their sworn enemy nation despite being brought back. The deal, logically, isn't that simple.
  • Unstoppable Rage:
    • It doesn't happen often, but when Corrin gets pissed, they get pissed. Their mindless, grief-driven rampage in Chapter 5 is perhaps the best example of this, followed up by their Paralogue with their child Kana after seeing them attacked.
    • In Conquest, when Iago tells Corrin about all the things he has done under the king's orders to ruin their life in their pre-fight conversation in Ch 26, Corrin straight up says they will kill him.
  • Verbal Tic: Chuckles (read: says "haha") at least once in every other conversation.
  • Villain Protagonist: Subverted in Conquest. If Corrin sides with Nohr, they help invade and conquer Hoshido, but the circumstances eventually give them a chance to stop Garon for good and free Hoshido.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Corrin has the ability to transform into a deer-like dragon by using a dragonstone that Azura bestows upon them in Chapter 5.
  • Warrior Poet: Male Corrin takes an interest in poetry in his supports with Mitama, and he's quite eloquent and refined on the philosophy of warfare.
Male Corrin: [to Selkie] I believe that there is a balance in all things. We are at war, so we cannot hesitate in battle. But at the same time, we cannot allow ourselves to forget that it is people that we are fighting. We cannot indulge our bloodlust more than necessary.
  • Warrior Prince: As a child from the Hoshido royal family and adopted to the Nohr royal family. Their class is Nohr Prince/ss after all.
  • Warrior Therapist: Corrin is always willing to lend an ear to the troubles of their comrades, and will do whatever they can to help.
  • Weak, but Skilled: While Corrin is no slouch in battle, and is easily one of the best fighters in the army, they are far from the strongest, finding themselves bested by more powerful opponents like King Garon, Xander on Birthright or Anankos in Revelation in straight-up single combat. Rather, their greatest strengths are their intelligence and analytical ability; their charisma; their determination; the Yato; and their bonds with the many people that are or grow loyal to them, especially the royal siblings. Their fighting style seems to reflect this as well—lots of flips, spins and twists that lack power, but are very fast and hard to dodge. This becomes subverted as they become Strong and Skilled at the end of each campaign, improving in swordsmanship, their draconic abilities, and gaining access to the empowered forms of the Yato.
  • We Cannot Go On Without You: If you're playing on Classic Mode, you'll instantly get a Game Over if Corrin ever gets taken down in battle.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: They very much desire for Garon's approval, to the point they say that it's what they've been striving for their whole life. That said, they aren't willing to compromise their ideals to earn it, and stop trying at all in Birthright and Revelation.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: No matter which kingdom Corrin sides with, they are branded a traitor by whichever side they forgo. This reaction also happens to a degree (Sakura and Elise being the only ones who aren't angry) if they choose neither in Revelation.
    • In a far more comedic example, they give an offscreen one to Ryoma and Camilla during their A support for trying to drag them into their ridiculous contest to see who was the better sibling to them. We don't actually see it, but from what Camilla and Ryoma say, they were furious.
  • What You Are in the Dark: Corrin in the end in Conquest ends up directly dealing with this dilemma. After spending so long having to keep mum about the issues behind Garon's possession for so long and having to abandon their ideals while constantly in doubt about themselves, ends up being confronted face-to-face with a possessed Takumi, driven to madness by his hatred. Azura immediately suggests he needs to be put down, but Corrin ends up trying to get Takumi to aim at Corrin for what they did to him, despite the obvious risk to themselves and how much Takumi has lost himself in his possession. There was no expectations of Corrin to do that, yet this ends up being in part of how the two are able to forgive each other in Corrin's temporary visit to the afterlife.
Azura: We have to fight him, Corrin. His mind is...not well. The monster has latched on to his regrets, to his resentment and bitterness. His heart and mind have been pushed past the point of no return. We have to stop him before more innocent lives are lost.
    Corrin: Wait! Don't move.
    Azura: Corrin?
Corrin: Takumi has every right to be angry with me. I am to blame for much of the heartache in his life... I chose this path. I do not regret it...but I must take responsibility for it. There's only one way to do that...
    (Corrin begins walking towards Takumi)
Azura: Y-you don't intend to— ?! Wait, Corrin! It's too dangerous! Please! Come back!!
(Corrin stands in front of Takumi)
    Corrin: ...
Takumi: Corrin... Betrayal... Death... Must...kill you...
Corrin: Takumi... I know I've never been there for you like a brother/sister should... I've caused you much suffering, and I couldn't save you at the Great Wall... This all grieves me more than you will ever know, but I will not fall here on this day. I won't let you kill me, but the very least I can do...is accept all of your anger.
Takumi: Death! Murder! BETRAYAL!! I will kill you, Corrin! I...WILL...KILL YOU!!
Corrin: Takumi! If you're going to aim that thing at anyone, aim it at me. I'm the one you want! Go on then. Loose your arrow, brother!!
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Corrin has a rather hopeful, idealistic view of the world. Depending on what route is chosen, it may or may not be broken by what happens next.
Xander: Mark my words, Corrin... One day an act of kindness may be the death of you.
Corrin: Perhaps, but if I'm kind, I will die without regrets.
  • Wild Card: For whatever country they choose, Corrin ultimately changes the tide of the war in their favor.
  • The Wise Prince: What Corrin eventually becomes on Revelation, balancing their ideals with wisdom.
  • Worf Had the Flu: A possible explanation for the nearly one-sided beating they received from Xander in Chapter 26 of Birthright. By the time they had reached him, Corrin and their companions had fought Vallites and Stoneborn on a volcanic island, were ambushed by Shura's gang, faced Camilla and her retainers, and had to defeat many members of Hans' elite squad first before defeating both him and finally Iago, on top of traveling a large amount of distance on foot. The scene before the duel showed that the entire army was tired, and Corrin was facing a fresh and ready to battle to the death Xander, while under a promise from Elise not to kill any of her family, making a straightforward victory completely impossible for Corrin.
  • Yin-Yang Bomb: The Fire Emblem in Fates is a chainsaw sword that combines the power of Dark (Nohr) with Light (Hoshido), wielded by Corrin in Revelation. Furthermore, both the Hoshido Noble and Nohr Noble promotion options are available to Corrin in this path, along with having a much more balanced personality than their other ones from the previous routes.
