Adorabat

Violent Hero-in-Training

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ab_3.png
"I... I know I'm not good at using swords and such, but I can't really get good at them without using them, right?"

Despite being a mammal, one innate biological function she and her family share is the ability to molt their skin, seemingly at-will.

One of the youngest if not THE youngest of the students, Adorabat hails from Pure Heart Valley. She's an eager hero-in-training who loves danger, being trained by the duo of Mao Mao and Badgerclops. Obsessed with violence, she still has a very good heart.

  • Befriending the Enemy: Adorabat had a justifiable reason to hate monsters, yet during week 5, managed to befriend a slime monster made of blood.
  • Berserk Button: She absolutely detests being called a monster. Plus, she doesn't like it when other people criticize Mao Mao.
  • Book Dumb: What would you expect from someone who should be in kindergarden?
  • Brutal Honesty: Like in her cartoon, she has zero tact.
  • Character Development: Eventually, she comes to stop thinking of "monsters" as being Always Chaotic Evil, eventually adopting a blood slime named Slimy.
  • Cowboy Cop: She frequently mentions just how eager she is to beat up and straight up maim criminals.
  • Cute and Psycho: Many people are enamored by her adorableness, but there are times where she unnerves and creeps out her fellow classmates.
  • Cute, but Cacophonic: She tends to scream a lot to the annoyance of some.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Enjoys action, fighting and violence, but the science lab seemingly bleeding from the walls and ceilings and being covered in somehow-malevolent blood manages to unnerve her when combined with the overwhelming stench of the blood.
    • Adorabat is unnerved by Kakuya in general.
  • Fantastic Racism: Towards monsters. Justified in that the monsters back at her home are Always Chaotic Evil beasts that can't form a thought other than smashing and eating and have no concept of empathy. Even moreso when she reveals her mother was killed by one.
  • Forgot About Her Powers: Just like the source, she occasionally forgets she can fly.
  • Innocent Swearing: Picks up the word "fuck" after Trial 4.
  • Like Brother and Sister: Nearly instantly became this with Dylan in her first conversation with him.
  • Little Sister Instinct: As she tells Emma, she tries to protect Mao Mao and Badgerclops from people who insult them.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: She enjoys collecting bones and even has a piggy bank that has an Nightmare Face on it.
    • During week 5, she befriended a blood slime monster named Slimy.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Many of the students think this of her, with Dylan deciding to protect her at all costs not five minutes into his first conversation with her.
  • Skewed Priorities: When Adorabat discovers Luz's body, she's more worried about Dewey finding out about it happening instead of letting everyone else know that someone has died.
  • The Heart: She gets along with almost everyone and is a fundamentally good person... most of the time. She's even helped cheer up a number of people when they were feeling down.
  • The Pollyanna: Almost constantly happy and friendly, no matter how dire the situation.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: She can be very worrying to her fellow students at times.

Anya Forger

Little Miss Spy-Enthusiast

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_anya_1.png
"Bondman fought his way out. And now Anya must do the same."

Anya has a particular fondness for pretty clothes because she likes showing them to everyone.

A young psychic who was formerly at an orphanage, adopted by Loid Forger and Yor Briar-Forger. She's precocious and sees everyone mostly as friends. Her biggest interest is spies, and she enjoys the series Spy Wars, featuring Bondman.

  • All-Loving Hero: Anya tries to be nice to everyone so they'll be nice to her in return.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: Anya is one of the younger students and probably the most precocious, so she's often the one babied the most.
  • Book Dumb: Anya can be seen as street smart or adept with social graces at times, but one thing she's fairly poor at is any school subjects. She does poorly at the Spelling Bee, and she shows no signs of improving. Then again, she's 6.
  • Catchphrase: Just like in her source series, she likes exclaiming things are "SO COOL!"
  • Cheerful Child: Anya is an optimist at heart.
  • The Cutie: Probably the most cutesy amongst the entire cast, frequently displaying moments of being adorable and cute.
  • From the Mouths of Babes: When the Principal upsets her, she flips him off while giving him her signature unsettling smile.
  • Funetik Aksent: Just like in her source series, Anya has a habit of mispronouncing words or stumbling over them when she's not sure what words fit a situation.
  • Hates Being Alone: Anya's worst fear is her abandonment issues and her parents forgetting about her. Targeting that fear when she's more angry than sad also counts as a Berserk Button.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Yells at Emma not to karate-chop Valmont for being a jerk even though she herself punched Damian in the face for similar reasons. This is actually pointed out in the bracket narration.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: Has a dog named Bond at home, whom she adores dearly.
  • Like Brother and Sister: With Dewey and Sonic, amongst others. Most of the students tend to have a soft spot for Anya.
  • Odd Friendship: With Edward. Despite this, they make a fairly heartwarming bond.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: A charming and adorable little girl with pink hair.
  • Tender Tears: Anya tends to cry sometimes when she's distressed. This is best shown when she fears her parents having left her alone. She also cries after the first murder, seeing as she believed everyone could earnestly get along. She was taken care of by Reika afterwards.
  • Third-Person Person: Anya talks like this, using Anya's name instead of 'I'.
  • Took a Level in Cynic: Post Trial 4, Kakuya's betrayal of the group gave Anya trust issues.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Peanuts.

Ava

A Little Monk-y

Ava once lived in a fart cave for months.

  • Actually Pretty Funny: When accusing Ava of murder in the 5th Trial, Kuro admits that every piece of evidence fits her just as much as it does Ava, with one exception: she doesn't know how to use a blender. Ava finds this so hilarious that she decides this is what brings out her admission of guilt.
  • The Lad-ette: Ava doesn't put much stock in being a stereotypical girl. Justified, given where she comes from.

Carrie Fernandez

Dutiful Witch

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cv64_offart29.jpg
"Not just a kid, my family has been doing this work for centuries, and unlike the Belmonts we didn't run away from it."

Carrie has killed more than one vampire.

  • Wrong Genre Savvy: She's... attached to the idea that the situation everyone is in might be a vampire's work.

Chloe von Einzbern

Older Little Sister

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pose_chloe.png
"It's something you'll learn on your own, one day. Don't try to rush into adulthood!"

Most people call her "Kuro."

  • Always Save the Girl: Discussed during Trial 4. This is a philosophy that Kuro strongly believes in - she'll sacrifice anything for the people she cares about, even if it's the world itself.
  • Damned by Faint Praise: A self-inflicted case. When accusing Ava during the 5th Trial, she admits that all the evidence points to herself as well, with one exception: she does not know how to use a blender.

Dewey Duck

The Guts

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/federalist_10_7.png
"Definitely... If this is just one monster in someone's closet, I'd hate to see all the monsters out there."

He has his own online talkshow that he calls Dewey Dew-Night!

Part of the McDuck lineage, a lineage he has a lot of pride in thanks to his siblings, his mom, his Uncle Donald, and his Great-Uncle Scrooge. His signature color is blue.

  • Atomic Precision F-Strike: During Trial 4, when Adorabat accuses Sonic of being the killer and declares that "no monster is a good monster", he screams out in Sonic's defense, "Even if he WAS the killer, he's not a FUCKING MONSTER!"
  • Badass Family: Believes his family is this. He's right.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Flies into a rage when the Principal remarks that Anya's parents may forget her. He looks after her a number of times.
  • Declaration of Protection: Promised Edward to protect Anya. Intends to keep his promise.
  • Embarrassing First Name: Dewford. He's embarrassed by it to the point it was his secret during Week 4's motive.
  • Japanese Delinquents: His Significant Wardrobe Shift emulates both a banchou and a sukeban, and his long skirt is meant for concealing weaponry.
  • Pungeon Master: Tends to make puns involving his name.
  • Significant Wardrobe Shift: Though none of his icons depict it, post-Trial 4, Dewey modifies his uniform as well as a larger girl's uniform and dresses as a combination of a banchou and a sukeban. The boy's uniform's jacket hangs off his shoulder, his undershirt is unbuttoned, and his tie was cut up into an eyepatch. The girl's uniform's skirt, coming from a larger size, goes down to his ankles, and is meant to conceal weapons.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Downplayed. His post-Trial 4 look is a delinquent-fied combination of the boy's uniform and girl's uniform, and includes an ankle-length skirt. While the change isn't exactly "wholesome", it isn't sinister or "creepy" or either.
    • In the same vein, it's downplayed in the sense he views the skirt in a more utilitarian way, saying there's much more room to conceal weapons than the regular boy uniform's trousers, and he states he would have picked up combat trousers if there were any. He does state he likes how the skirt flows, though, implying a degree of self-expression involved with adding it to his wardrobe.

Dylan Dalmatian

The Responsible Top Dog

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dylan_101ds.png
"NO-no no no! Not doing that-definitely not doing that! We don't need anyone wielding weapons right now."

Dylan has 98 siblings, and among them, he is one of the two oldest.

A twelve-year-old (in dog years) Dalmatian hailing from Camden Town, London. Tries his best to keep the peace and make things safe in the school, despite the obvious obstacles in the way of such a plan.

Edward Cullen

The Lion

Edward enjoys composing piano pieces in his head, and then refining them at a physical instrument.

A vampire of the Cullen clan, a family of 'vegetarian' vampires. Edward is a bit of a natural brooder and loner due to his vampiric status, but he has a good heart and ultimately will usually do the right thing even if he has his own doubts about fitting in. His heart is pledged to one Isabella Swan at home. Luckily, he does not sparkle here.

  • The Charmer: Aware of his good looks, and willing to use them to his advantage. Luckily, he's put this mostly towards trying to get the Prefect to swap sides.
  • Graceful Loser: Once Yasu accuses him of being the culprit in trial two, he gives up without a fight.
  • Odd Friendship: With Anya, formed when Anya found him playing the piano. Gave her a Declaration of Protection.
  • Older Than They Look: Old enough to have repeated high school multiple times. Luckily, this comes in handy, seeing as he has a wide variety base of knowledge as a result.

Emma Banks

Deaf Telepath

Emma is part of the select group who will be saved from the end of the world by emigrating to a different planet.

A young "telepath" from a technologically-inclined family. Emma is deaf, so she communicates through sign language and reading lips.

  • Big Sister Instinct: Immediately develops a desire to protect Anya upon meeting her.
  • Dramatic Irony: Despite there being at least three other characters with actual telepathic abilities in their canon, Emma is the one who gets "Telepath" in her title despite hers being technologically-based and limited to her family only.
  • Logical Weakness: Even at its best, her lip reading can't pick up the best spelling for proper names, which means she often hyphenates or misspells them.
    • Eventually, she even misses a body announcement due to the fact that she can't hear it.
  • The Nicknamer: A variation-she develops sign names for the rest of the cast for ease of communication, based on her impressions of them or personality information from their profiles.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Finally hits this with Valmont's behavior in the first trial, kicking him in the leg and telling him to stop treating Yasu as a servant.
  • Reading Lips: How she understands most of the other cast.
  • Secret-Keeper: For Anya, regarding her telepathy. She was the first to know of Anya's ability, given her title. As time goes on, this role is shared with Sonic.
  • Signed Language: She knows sign language, which the setting translates for her, and takes to using it most of the time.
  • Soapbox Sadie: Gets into a long discussion with Adorabat about police corruption and how rich people can easily get away with various crimes.
  • Talking with Signs: She initially uses a notebook and pencil to write and communicate, but comes to find using sign language easier.

Hunter DeVil

The Dog Boy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hunter_tv_tropes.png
"Dude... You're so lucky no one has their cell phones here. That would have gone viral in like... Ten minutes. Tops."

Yes, Hunter's great aunt is the proprietor of a designer brand. No, Hunter's great great aunt was not driven off a cliff by killer dalmatians.

Cruella De Vil's twelve year old grandnephew. He was working together with her to capture Dylan and his family to make a fur coat, but his circumstances in the academy make him come to realize how bad of an idea that was. Now he's hoping to redeem himself... If he can survive long enough to fix his mistakes at home!

  • The Atoner: Becomes this towards Dylan after realizing how horrible his aunt actually is.
  • Delusions of Doghood: Occasionally starts acting like a dog, mostly when he's around dog based stimuli like chew toys. He eventually snaps out of it.
  • Fallen Princess: A male example. Though he was previously granted a fairly luxurious life under the De Vil name, outside of it he's a far better person.
  • Heel Realization: First upon hearing the Principal's voice and realizing how much he sounds like Cruella, which makes him realize Cruella is abusive. Then, during the secrets motive in Week 4, it's revealed that Cruella wants to kill the Dalmatians for her coat, which he didn't know.
  • Not in Front of the Kid: Is horrified to hear Adorabat use the word "fuck."
  • Spin-Offspring: Is related to Cruella De Vil.

Iron Maiden Jeanne

Holy Girl

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jeanne_1.png
"It is nothing! Patience is a virtue. I just... I merely... It is beginning to dawn on me just how true that may be..."
Jeanne's favorite color is white, because it symbolizes joy and purity that results from faith in God.

An eleven-year-old girl who claims to be a powerful shaman leader on a mission from God. Yet she is so noble that she tries to remain calm and devote herself just as fiercely to her classmates.

  • Agent Mulder: Seeming to believe that All Myths Are True, she explicitly chastises Dylan for doubting the presence of a ghost.
  • Church Militant: She is the leader of the X-Laws, an organization that aims to fulfill God's will and bring peace to the world by winning a battle called the Shaman Fight. Lampshaded by Kuro, who finds Jeanne strikingly similar to her own experience of "the Church's watchdogs".
  • Class Princess: Downplayed. Carrie thinks of her as a princess escaped from a fairy tale, and there are a few other students equally impressed. Still, many others are neutral or even skeptical of her.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Discussed with Kuro. Rather than Brought Down to Normal, Jeanne perceives her shaman abilities as sadly unsuited to the situation in the first place.
  • Family of Choice: It rapidly becomes clear that the X-Laws have completely supplanted any family of origin that was ever in Jeanne's life.
  • Incorruptible Pure Pureness: Jeanne is preoccupied with chastity and innocence to the point that she panicked at the idea of improper activities at a school dance.
  • Mystical White Hair: Many characters remark upon Jeanne's long, luxurious silver hair.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Discussed with Carrie.
  • Sacrificed Basic Skill for Awesome Training: Downplayed. Jeanne clearly got some kind of basic education considering she's not the one class member who can't read, but remarks like "the King of America" show that she clearly went through shaman training instead of school.
  • Training from Hell: Jeanne attempts to increase her power through physical pain, such as weighting herself down with other objects when doing push-ups. Apparently, this is *less* intense than her training regime at home.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Jeanne is trying not to jump to conclusions but, for example, instinctively describes the school they're trapped in as a "realm-type oversoul", a specific power it is unlikely the Principal actually has.

Koishi Komeiji

The Closed Eyes of Love

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_th11koishi.png
"Wow, that's really inconsiderate of our kidnappers to take people when they have stuff to do."

When not wandering, Koishi lives in the Underworld with her sister.

An absent-minded yokai from the mystical land of Gensokyo. Koishi is a Satori, a yokai known for reading minds. In Koishi's case, however, she's sealed off some of her ability beforehand, making her sanity...a bit questionable, though she's usually always cheerful. Normally, she lives in the Underworld with her sister Satori, but an incident beforehand drew attention to her - attention from a certain shrine maiden and a certain witch. Still, it's safe to say that she's as carefree as ever, even when she shouldn't be.

  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Despite her quirks, manages to be one of the two winners of the Spelling Bee.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander
  • Cute Monster Girl: She's a satori, a mind-reading youkai with a physical Third Eye on her body.
  • Forgettable Character: Whoops, did the academy accidentally set up one fewer chair/give out one fewer textbook/etc. than there are students? Again?
  • Interface Spoiler: A small one. During Trial 1, her sister's boss theme plays, instead of Koishi's own boss theme. It's a slight hint that she's not the culprit and has nothing to do with the case.
  • Not Me This Time: She falls under heavy suspicion for Trial 1, due to her vaguely sinister aura and danmaku usage, but she turns out to be completely unrelated to the case.

Luz Noceda

The Owlette

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/luz1.png
"Nothing about this makes sense, a-and I thought I knew a lot of things that didn't make sense, but now I'm here. And I shouldn't be here, because I have to help my friends!"

Luz always wanted to be a Chosen One before she came to the Boiling Isles.

A witch-in-training under the tutelage of the Owl Witch Eda. She's lived in the Boiling Isles for a while to study under her after choosing that over another summer camp, and she's taken to the training very well due to already admiring witches. May be a chosen one of some description. Has a girlfriend named Amity Blight.

  • Crippling Overspecialization: Can be quite formidable in combat...so long as she can use her glyphs. Their lack of power in the Academy means she was just throwing paper around when trying to defend herself from Reika.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: As the first victim, she had very little time to get to know the rest of the cast.

Reika Aoki

The Pathfinder

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/beautyyy.jpg
"I'd always assumed malice was the distinction between a monster and a creature."

Reika sadly was not permitted to establish a base at the top of Mount Fuji.
A fourteen-year-old girl who was student council vice president back home, Reika is out to help everyone as much as possible, paying special attention to the younger kids. She has a secret identity as the Magical Girl Warrior Cure Beauty, which she has so far miraculously managed not to suddenly blurt out.
  • Aloof Archer: Usually cool and collected, and has arrows as one of her regains.
  • Bifauxnen: She shows up to the dance wearing the boys' uniform and with her hair tied to look more masculine.
  • Cannot Keep a Secret: It doesn't take long at all for her to accidentally reveal that she isn't quite as normal as she pretends, if only because she has access to teleportation.
  • Cope by Creating: Like Yasu, she tries writing as a means of protection from brainwashing.
  • Ditzy Genius: She's clearly very intelligent and has wide-ranging knowledge, except when she's saying something nonsensical.
  • Mad Libs Catchphrase: "The path to ___ is ___." This and other, similar habitual references to paths are the source of her title.
  • Sheltered Aristocrat: For all her intelligence, she's unfamiliar with a surprisingly large number of mundane subjects.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: She's completely unsurprised by all the talking animals. If she were any other Pretty Cure character, this would clearly just be because she's met her share of similar beings in canon, but in Reika's case it might just be because she's Reika.

Rosalinda Maria Montoya Fiorre

Queen Bee

Rosalinda was crowned homecoming queen just ahead of her actual coronation.

A princess enrolled into the Princess Protection Program for her safety and moved to Louisiana. She's a generous, caring soul who enjoys fashion and approaches everything with a bit of whimsy.

Sonic The Hedgehog

The Fastest Thing Alive

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sonicthatsgood_6314.jpg
"It's some silly old-fashioned thing where you move, like. Boring. Y'know, stuffy old royal line dancing!"

He can swim. Yes, this is important and interesting.

A sixteen-year-old Mobian who is the leader of the Knothole Freedom Fighters. Given his backstory, he's been against the Principal-and just being in the school-from the start.

  • Bash Brothers: Shaping up to be this with Adorabat and Dewey, and possibly Edward.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Tends to look out for Anya, including helping her bandage her accidental cut via iron-maiden fingertrap and being infuriated on her behalf when the Principal targets her abandonment issues. Also has a one with Adorabat, given their similar child soldier backgrounds.
  • Big "NO!": Gives one when he discovers Dylan's corpse.
  • BSoD: After the reveal of Week 4's culprit being the person he suspected most after all. And then after the elevator didn't come down...
  • Gosh Dang It to Heck!: Praises Anya she flips the bird (though he himself explicitly doesn't do it). He also called the Principal the strongest word he could muster: butthole.
  • Hidden Depths: Yeah, he's the fastest thing alive, and he's super cool, but he's also one of the only students who knows how, among other things, to properly cook food.
  • Humans Are the Real Monsters: Sonic's already-dim view of humans is *not* being helped much by the murders-which were all exclusively performed by humans (or human-shaped people, in Edward’s case). Father being human-shaped doesn't help matters either.
  • Insistent Appellation: The Prefect is either the Prefect or Miss Priss. No ifs, ands or butts.
  • The McCoy: Certainly one of the prime examples for the current group, if not for the whole round. He's the only one who's abstained from all votes — even in Week 4. (The Spock in his case is Jeanne.)
  • Outside-Context Problem: Despite certain similarities, the murder school isn't Robotropolis. Needless to say, it's all throwing Sonic off his game just a bit on how to deal with it. Likewise, Yasu's slippage into Beato mode post-Week 4 is very difficult for Sonic to handle.
  • Same Race Means Related: Initially assumes Emma is related to Robotnik because they're both human. Somewhat justified in that he only knew three humans before arriving.
  • Secret-Keeper: For Anya regarding the full truth of her telepathy and her parents, along with Adorabat and Yuta. He also (unintentionally) knows Yasu’s Week 4 secret as well alongside Dylan.
  • Totally Radical: Just like in Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM), he talks like this.
  • Waxing Lyrical: His title is a quote from the Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) theme song.

Thomasin

Goatforsaken

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/thomasin.jpg
"Peace. You know 'tis no harm to me if you know not how it works, um..."

Thomasin cannot read anything in this profile but her own name!

Probably the most out of time student, Thomasin was raised on a farm with her family in 1600s New England. She's the oldest of her siblings, and a dutiful young lady despite her historical bad luck.

Tosai "Fret" Furesawa

Reminder

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/neo_twewy_fret_portrait.png
"To be honest, I've fought monsters like that before. And the kind that can erase memories too. It's, like, no joke. Probably better you came back here, if that's how it is. "

He has never worn that hat he keeps clipped to his pants. A fashion statement, or some hidden significance?

A teen from Shibuya previously put into the Reaper's Game alongside his friend Rindo. Fret is a bit of a jokester, but he's always one to seek out for a half-decent joke and a mildly-decent nickname. He's probably the most likely amongst all of the students to do a Fortnite dance, but everyone enjoys his company anyway. Mostly.

  • Book Dumb: He scored lower in the spelling bee than everyone except Adorabat and the kids who failed on purpose.
  • The Nicknamer: Fret loves to give people ridiculous nicknames. To date: Yuta has been dubbed "Yutaman", Hunter is "Hunty D", Jeanne is "Jeannie", Reika gets to be "Rei-Rei", and Valmont is "Vallyboy".
  • Giver of Lame Names: How most people react to said nicknames.
  • Pet's Homage Name: He named his cat after Neku, whom he knows of only as a 'Legendary Player', not knowing he was also one of the kids from round one.

Valmont

The Boss Baby

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vlcsnap_2020_03_08_20h20m09s212_1.png
"It would be a shame to lose our only maid to an overzealous murderer."

Valmont has chloroformed a grown man.

An enemy of the legendary warrior Jackie Chan. Don't ask. Rich, sharp in tongue and in senses, and very willing to do what he wants no matter if anyone likes it or not, Valmont doesn't care if anyone calls him a villain — he's here to survive. Still, maybe he's got a good side...?

  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Not really in the business of making friends, though he does have his soft side. Time will tell whether he remains a bit of an outlier, or if he grows out of this.
  • Last-Name Basis: In the proud British boarding school tradition, Valmont refers to all the other students in this manner (except for those with Only One Name, like Jeanne and Yasu). He also hasn't gotten along enough with anyone yet to give them his own first name.
  • Spoiled Brat: Valmont has a fair amount of money, but isn't afraid to speak his mind even when no one appreciates it.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: He's got anime-white hair, and he's kiiind of a jerk.

Yasu

Little Miss Miracle Magician

Yasu is the youngest orphan to ever qualify for the Gospel House's servant program, going to work for the prestigious Ushiromiya family as a part-time maid at the tender age of six years old.

A nine year-old orphan who was employed as a maid for an old-money family on an isolated island for three years before her enrollment in Ira Academy. Yasu has no experience with the supernatural, but when she manages to squeak in some words past her crippling nerves, she shows remarkably sharp insight for her age.

  • Agent Mulder: Although she doesn't talk about it much, Yasu is very enthusiastic about magic. Her journal, once regained, was described as a "grimoire" despite being otherwise mundane and was full of simple (if ineffectual) charms, she was awed by Luz's attempts to use a glyph, and was delighted at A's music room shenanigans rather than
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Being a full ten years younger than the rest of Gospel House orphans when she went to work at the mansion made Yasu a social outcast among her seniors, as her youthful clumsiness and the perceived "special treatment" built resentment toward her.
  • Apologizes a Lot: Half of the words that make it through Yasu's stutter are apologies for her perceived failures.
  • Artistic License — Child Labor Laws: Although the negative impact her work as a maid had is always apparent, it does beggar belief that none of the people outside the island were worried about a six year-old being a part-time employee... although considering how filthy rich the Ushiromiyas are, maybe there's a reason why nobody was too concerned.
  • Cope by Creating: Yasu can often be seen around Ira Academy idly doodling in the "grimoire" she regained, and her first instinct when the possibility of brainwashing was brought up was to immediately start scribbling down a story to maintain her independence. In a conversation with Koishi off to the side of a meeting during the introduction week, Yasu said that giving her ideas form helped her calm down and focus, which was much needed given the circumstances.
  • Cowardly Lion: While she's a nervous, stuttering mess that has a hard time remembering that she's not obligated to serve her classmates, in actually dangerous situations Yasu has an unexpectedly cool head; such as when she calmly walked into A's haunted music room while most of the cast was freaking out because of the ghostly shenanigans.
  • Cute Bookworm: Yasu loves reading, and asked to borrow books several of her classmates found in the mysterious red vending machine. She's also nine and cute as a button.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: While her constant fumbles are nerve-wracking for Yasu, they look adorable (if still wince-inducing) from the outside, especially with her bangs obstructing her vision.
  • Grew a Spine: After Emma starts beating up Valmont over his treatment of her, she finally stands up for herself and says that she hates acting like a servant and doing maid work. Further grows more defiant after Kakuya's reveal, becoming even more confident and acting more like her future self.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Yasu is pathologically incapable of taking a compliment and is overwhelmingly down on herself in her narration. This is largely because of constantly comparing herself to the work people ten years older than her did and said seniors equally-constantly belittling her.
  • Love Makes You Evil: Her affection for Kakuya puts her at odds with the rest of the students.
  • Meido: Employed as one to the Ushiromiya family at the tender age of six, although even being a traditionally cute anime maid whose primary job is cleaning things is a nightmare for someone that young. Thankfully, her uniform doesn't have the customary thigh window.
  • Not Used to Freedom: Yasu's only source of social interaction being getting pushed around one way or another and having to work as a servant from the tender age of six have led to her being a neurotic mess in Ira Academy. She constantly looks for ways to be "of service" and defaults back to what she's supposed to say as a maid whenever she's anxious or otherwise at a loss for words.
  • Older Than They Look: Her age in her profile is actually three years off, making her actually 12.
  • Sweet Baker: In thanks for A passing along information to the class (and confirming Yasu's own theory about how long the students had really been at Ira Academy) through a Little Brother, Yasu left some chocolate chip cookies in the shed that she identified as where A hid.
  • The Smart One Turns Traitor: Despite being a competent investigator, she's fallen in love with Kakuya.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: Hidden behind the social anxiety and lack of confidence is a sharp mind. Yasu made several deductions about the student body of Ira Academy and the true nature of Closetland in the first few days after the class "woke up," most of which turned out to be correct, and has displayed excellent judgment and perceptive abilities toward her classmates.

"We know that if the Principal keeps getting away with this, we're all as good as dead. And we also know that if we don't keep it together enough to stop him, we're also as good as dead. Those things won't change no matter how crazy things get."

Yuta's father threw him out because he's a monster.

     Major NPCs

The Principal ( Father)

The Principal

The Principal's favorite ice cream flavor is rocky road.

A mysterious man who believes in reforming children into 'proper adults'. He's the organizer of the Capstone Project and, after taking ire with the students, the Alternate Capstone Project. Thus far has remained unseen, initially because he was on vacation before being rudely interrupted. This isn't the first time he's fought against children...

  • Archnemesis Dad: Well, his name *is* Father...
  • Big Bad: Apparently the mastermind behind the round.
  • Child Hater: He has "children" under his dislikes.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: "there are some evils even I won't stoop to" is his response to Ava's suspicion about his relationship with the teenage female Prefect.
  • Evil Principal: He kidnapped over twenty kids to brainwash them, and that's just what happened before the round began.
  • Hate Sink: Thus far, he's showed very little redeemable qualities, and he's the creator of the Alternate Capstone Project.
  • Politically Correct Villain: He gives each student both a skirt and slacks version of the uniform, and doesn't restrict uniforms by gender either way. His speeches are also captioned for the benefit of the deaf Emma, and when Dylan is killed in the fourth case and the Principal says "only the dog", he clarifies that it is because that dog was only one additional child killed, rather than particularly devaluing the life of the dog.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Sealed by Kakuya post-Trial 4.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Very plainly exclaims that he would kill the children if he could at the Spelling Bee afterparty.

?????? (Nanami Kiryuu)

The Prefect

In her free time, the Prefect enjoys organizing and coordinating social events, several of which have attracted national attention.

A young lady who wants to measure up to her brother in status, the Prefect is originally seen as the Principal's second-in-command, but after trying to stop the Alternate Capstone Project, he's no longer given her his favor. She's still someone to refer to, but she's already fallen in status. Perhaps, just perhaps, this may lead her towards making friends...?

  • Custom Uniform: As Prefect, she has a somewhat fancier uniform than the others.

"A" ( Kakuya)

"I hope things will be okay."

A ghost who appears to be on the side of the students(?). Wrapped in mysteriousness, she's at least against the principal, and encourages the other students in their endeavors. She haunts the music room. After Trial 4, she reveals that the identity of 'A' was a ruse, and her name is actually Kakuya. She seals Father away, and from that point on, she takes the lead as the new mastermind.

     Minor NPCs

In General

  • Horror Hunger: The monsters living in the school were mostly driven by intense hunger that subsides when people solved their mysteries.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: In Week 5 it's revealed that several of the monsters attacking the students during the weekly mystery are actually just hungry, and have been forced to feed on fear instead of their usual diet.

Dance Studio Monster

Evil Clown

A clown seen on repeated trips to the trial room.

  • Ascended Extra: Originally just creepy background dressing, he ended up being used for an execution due to thematically fitting with the culprit's motivation.
  • Shout-Out: While he has no official name, the mods sometimes call him by various plays on "Pennywise," such as Nickelsmart or Quartererudite.

Lucky

A sludge monster living in the pipes of the laundry room.

  • Not What I Signed on For: Mentions that they were offered free room and board, and didn't know that it'd involve attacking kids or being sealed in a box.

Slimy

A blood slime monster that lived in the science lab.
