Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- • General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- • Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- • Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.
Ask the Tropers is not for:
- • Help identifying a trope. See TropeFinder.
- • Help identifying a work. See MediaFinder.
- • Asking if a trope example is valid. See the Trope Talk forum.
- • Proposing new tropes. See TropeLaunchPad.
- • Making bug reports. See QueryBugs.
- • Asking for new wiki features. See QueryWishlist.
- • Chatting with other tropers. See our forums.

Ask the Tropers:
openNo title
I hollered for these TRS threads to have their crowners hooked, and I haven't got back yet. I really hope the threads won't be closed for inactivity in the New Years' Purge, since apparently there's going to be one this year. And even beyond that, the crowners should still be hooked.
openIs there a statute of limitations on PMing people for really awful editing?
I ask this because I found what must be the most pointless use of spoiler tags possible: "she". But the edit in question happened in 2014.
open Spam post in Yack Fest thread
So, a thread I started in Yack Fest a while ago got a new post recently. I was happy to see it make a comeback... until I realized that the new post is an advertisement that has little to do with the actual thread.
Honestly, if people are going to bump old threads, they should at least stay on-topic.
Edited by DrNoPumaopenHuh?
On YMMV.Rudolph The Rednosed Reindeer, someone added this tidbit to Older Than They Think. (Specifically, the bolded part.)
- Rudolph was a book before it became a song. Likewise, the song was not created for the 1964 special. In fact it's completely the other way around, with the special being created to promote the book and the song later based on it!
I'm really confused. Is this trying to imply that the song was created AFTER the Rankin-Bass version? Because IIRC, the song was created in the thirties.
Edited by MrMediaGuy2open Change troper page namespace
I'm trying to move my Contributor page from Troper/ to Tropers/. I followed the directions in How To Move A Page, but when I click "source" on the un-page (the one in the right namespace) All I get is a screen that says "Couldn't get page source." What should I do?
open What is a Shorttank?
I'm a little confused about what a Shorttank is exactly. My understanding is that it's a girl who is kinda tomboyish but not tomboyish enough to be a straight-up tomboy. Is that right? Also, if that's correct, what would the difference between a Shorttank and a Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak be, then?
openNuked TLP: Absurdly Short Episode
There was a TLP some time ago called Absurdly Short Episode (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/discussion.php?id=18exjcv267bltgb5bizba3hu) which I thought had merit. I did a search for it and discovered it had been nuked. Is there a way to restore it? If not, can I recreate it?
On a related note, does anyone know why it was nuked?
openNot lining up with official translations for Houseki no Kuni Anime
For some reason there are a few editors who are trying to keep the terms the characters use to what are used in an older fan translation instead of the official release. I'm not sure if they have personal hang ups (it's related to the character's genders and pronouns) or are weirdly loyal to the fan translation but everytime someone edits the page to use gender neutral terminology like the official release does, someone goes back and reverts with without a sound edit reason. Its been months since the official release and the page is still not updated to reflect that.
Edited by GIGopenTLP Islamic Nazis
Permission to discard the TLP draft Islamic Nazis, which is all about Real Life and obviously a terrible idea?
Edited by lakingsifopenKingdom Hearts χ wiki word Videogame
Kingdom Hearts χ should be wiki worded to "Kingdom Hearts χ" (pronounced "Kingdom Hearts Chi"). I've been requesting it, but it keeps getting rejected, probably because it seems odd to those not familiar with the work.
openQuestionable edits on Television is Trying to Kill Us
~Nakuyabi made some rather strange edits to JustForFun.Television Is Trying To Kill Us:
- Editing the entry on False Rape Accusation from one that's about the harm the trope does to people who report sexual assaults to a diatribe about the evils of making them, which claims that complaining about unwanted contact is making it harder for "real" victims be believed.
- Rewriting more than one entry (specifically the ones for Easy Sex Change and Unsettling Gender-Reveal) which references trans issues into warnings about the possibility of regretting transitioning if you're trans (which is actually the opposite of what tends to be the case) and strangly fixating on the idea of gender confirmation surger (which isn't even connected to UGR). No explanation in the edit reason.
- Outright erasing the entire entry for Drowning My Sorrows on the basis that "Given that fiction typically does show people who drown their sorrows in alcohol getting into big trouble for it, that doesn't really belong here." (which doesn't really change that portraying drinking as a way of coping with stress can still be harmful and ignores that the trope often just shows the person drinking with no further concequences).
EDIT: They've made more edits since I posted this:
- Added Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil, which one might say is questionable enough (I'd say it is indeed a special kind of evil), but then goes on a similar tangent to their False Rape Accusation edit.
- Edited Rape Portrayed as Redemption to make it play the idea of rape causing Suddenly Sexuality straight (and also bring paedophiles into it, which carries Unfortunate Implications considering most victims of "corrective rape" are LGBTQ).
openEdit Warring on The Last Jedi
TastySauce has started edit warring on The Last Jedi page over something really silly... putting capitals after an ellipsis. I'm not too sure myself what's the most correct form, but he should have called a discussion rather that just reiterate his last edit.
openEdit revert request
Could a mod please revert the most recent edit to AwesomeMusic.Star Wars? InsanezillaXXXL uncommented a raft of Zero Context Examples without adding so much as a letter of context to any of them.
open Online-Books Posting Literature
Are we allowed to create pages for internet literature works, like original Wattpad books and etc?
openOrphaned pages
I've come across two pages that need indexing. Is there somewhere these should be reported to, or will here do?
Looking at the edit history, they were created by different people back in 2011. Given the length of time that's passed and how few examples are on both pages, I'm not sure there's any point in them existing. They don't seem to be thriving.
Edited by WyldchyldopenMackWylde re-added bad example ignoring discussion.
Mack Wylde added the following to Trollhunters -
- Sliding Scale of Idealism vs. Cynicism: Heavily Idealistic.
I pulled it, both because I don't think it counts (the show is actually fairly dark for a kids' show, hardly "heavily idealistic") and because it's a Zero Context Example, and put up a post on the Discussion page explaining why.
Mack Wylde ignored the discussion post and re-added the example instead, which as I understand counts as Edit Warring.

When folderizing foreign language trope pages, keep the language's name for the Media Categories?
Like, for Fr.Machinmancie, Fr.L Ordinateur Est Votre Ami, and Fr.La Toute Nouvelle Xbox De Nintendo...
Also, I assume that (most?) French pages have been made by Tropers/Cryolaste 'cause they're all the product of a project to move foreign language pages to their proper place? Dunno where to look for info on that though...
