Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:

Ask the Tropers:
openOrigin Connection
Okay, so Adaptation Origin Connection. The trope is strictly about when an antagonist is given a greater connection to the hero, right? I've started cleaning up some of the examples I made since they were misuse of the trope but I need more clarification just to be safe.
openUnable to add videos for certain tropes Film
So I don't know if this is an issue for other people but whenever I try to upload videos for the following tropes, Gondor Calls for Aid, Moral Event Horizon, Heartwarming Moments, Our Dragons Are Different. Instead of getting the edit videos prompt, the prompt is "recent videos". And it says that no videos have been linked to this title. Clicking on recent videos takes me back to the video example page.
What I find strange is that Our Dragons Are Different and Gondor Calls for Aid have video examples. So I don't know if this isn't an issue for other users or if they have found a way around the problem
Here is a screenshot of the issue when trying to upload https://imgur.com/a/NP0bdrx

VideoGame.Tales Series has a "Common and recurring plot elements" list, that's weird.
It's like other series' Trope lists, but not formatted like one...
Fix or leave it?
open How flashy a video can be before it's seizure-inducing?
This prompted after I asked if this video could too flashy (yes it is quite flashy, not recommended for the photosensitive epileptic) and people thought I intentionally uploaded a video with near-Epileptic Flashing Lights and asked why I was a fool, before I deleted the video off the site because I used the whole video sans intro and outro. It was only after I tested the video (hours after uploading on the site) on Photosensitivity Epilepsy Analysis Tool, a free alternative to the Harding Test, and the graph crossed the failure line several times due to the usage of fast-paced transitions and flicker effects. Definitely not Porygon-level. I never had any sort of health problem when viewing the video.
Definitely strobe lights, such as two contrasting colors flickering quickly, need a seizure warning, like another of SallyRose975's fanvids (WARNING: FLASHING LIGHTS AND MAYBE A WARNING FOR SOME CENSORED NUDITY). But what about sights of bright lights appearing and disappearing on the screen suddenly, like gunfire and lightning, and fast-paced action/transitions that would fit in something like an anime? The whole experience has made me Paranoid that something bright flashing on the screen would make 0.000000000000000000000000000001% of the population go into a seizure. Do the links to SallyRose975's videos on Fanvid and SugarWiki.Visual Effects Of Awesome need warnings (I've never seen anyone complain about the flashy style)?
(FYI link on making flashing lights seizure-friendly, thought you might be interested)
Edited by PrincessPandaTropeopenQuestion
Hi! I know there is a Badass trope purge. Is Handicapped Badass a part of that?
I tell you what I’ve told in other inquiries: I’d hate to see that one go. It’s one of two disability specific tropes on this website, and (if presented well in media) the one that doesn’t make me want to vomit (please see my trope page for how I feel about Inspirationally Disadvantaged).
open To useless tô badass
A story has a character that is considered "useless", he/she is not a bad character but when it comes to combat he/she is inefficient, However one day this character ended up ganing power in some way and now he/she can fight and is no longe defendless (I am not talking about the "cruising moron hidden badass" trope I referring when a character is given the power, not reveal)
openEditing pages of tropes currently in TRS
Is it okay to edit pages for tropes that are currently in the TRS? I'm asking because I may be looking to add some examples to GCPTR/Video Games in the future, but I don't wanna break any rules that I may not be aware of.
openBizarre edits and changes by user Skunk Hunt
This troper made some strange and inaccurate changes to the Host page. I reverted them but noticed other pages where they've been making weird edits on anything having to do with links to the useful notes page on the COVID Pandemic.
These edits seem to be trying to downplay the pandemic
open Edit War, Justifying Edit, no Edit Reason
Troper Lucky-Seven-Leaf-Clover just did three offenses on Faux Action Girl: they Edit Warred, they inserted a Justifying Edit, and they deleted a large chunk of information with no Edit Reason.
- They added some Justified and Averted examples to the Sakura entry on Faux Action Girl, despite the entry already establishing that she is one, with quotes even taken from both the manga and Word of God himself stating that she is, and thus official sources were cited (as per "State the Source" in How to Write an Example). Also, the fact that they inserted a Justifying Edit to try and prove that Sakura's an Aversion with more bullets not only makes the entry too long, but it also shows character bias towards her, and I know for a fact that any bias of any kind is not allowed here. As a result, I deleted the troper's entries and explained myself.
- Unfortunately, they re-added their examples. Because they re-added their examples, that's an Edit War (Add -> Delete -> Re-add). In the same edit, they also deleted a large chunk of information from the Yu-Gi-Oh examples. This troper's edits on the page have no Edit Reason.
Here's their Edit History: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/el.php?findfor=Lucky-Seven-Leaf-Clover
Edited by mouschilightopenban evader
NoHomersClubFanxxx1 is almost certainly ashaunti, the ban evader with multiple accounts. Their Simpsons edits are always the same, Marge and Lisa are bad, the show has Double Standard, Bart is a victim tortured by his evil family and the writers, etc. See their edits here, here, here, or here.
Edited by annette12openLTWhite
LT White seems to be a new troper who has some issues using the site. For starters, they've twice now made low-effort works pages on the TLP (one was discarded a few days ago, yet they just made another with just as low quality).
The second issue, which I don't know how to address, is their misuse of the Timeline namespace for Timeline.Yo Gabba Gabba. Rather than describe the timeline of in-universe events, it hastily discusses the timeline of the show's airing schedule.
Edited by mightymewtronopenToo big page?
I noticed Funny.Yu Gi Oh Duel Links got de-indexed, and on looking at Funny.Video Games it goes up to the letter S and stops. It looks like part of the page was deleted somehow, but it also might be too big.
EDIT: Re-added the entries and things seem okay.
Edited by lalalei2001openShould we have Archive.TropeOverDosed?
Should we have Archive.Trope Over Dosed? I get that it was rescued, but Main.Trope Overdosed is a page...
It's not like we're preserving info we don't already have?
Mainly annoyed by its bad capitalization, but other than that...
Edited by MaladyopenGhostfreak45
On Giant Enemy Crab, Ghostfreak 45 uncommented several ZCE examples without giving them any context (they also misindented elsewhere, but I fixed that).
openStyle Savvy title confusion Videogame
About a month ago, VampireBuddha did a major overhaul of the Style Savvy series and split the individual games into their own pages. Which wouldn't be an issue in itself, except the new pages are under their European names of Style Boutique. I'm fairly certain that American titles take precedence here, but even if they don't, there's a mismatch between the franchise name and the individual games. This is potentially a bigger project than I want to take on right now; does anyone else want to take a look?
openStrange edits on Chased Off Into the Sunset
Not sure what's going on, but some Troper (ungabunga to be precise) seems to have gone a bit overboard on the Chased Off into the Sunset page? The folders for Western Animation etc have been deleted with no reason given, and the information about the page itself has also been removed. I'm not sure if they plan to rewrite anything, but at the moment the page looks very sorry for itself. Is anyone aware of this yet?
Should TheyChangedItNowItSucks.Websites And Software Designs even exist? It all just seems to be a page complaining about whenever an actual, Real Life website changes or does something the user didn't like.
