Ask the Tropers:
openDo Light Novels belong under the Literature folder or the Anime & Manga folder?
I've seen examples of Light Novels placed in both the Anime & Manga folders and the Literature folders, so I'd like to ask which folder is considered the correct place to put examples for them in.
openImage Pickin'
Hello, I am trying to make an image pickin' thread in order to suggest images for a recap page. However, it is not allowing for me to upload the images that I would like to suggest. It also presents the fact that hot linked images either. What should I do?
openIs MaliciousMisnaming on the forums a form of bashing?
If someone deliberately misnames an individual/group out of spite/hatred (whether it's a content creator or a member of this wiki), is that considered a form of bashing? What other misnaming circumstances would be considered bashing?
open Mod Revert
Just noticed that Taylorswiftscat a.k.a frequent ban-evader Johnnyfog had edited a large chunk of Creator.Anthony Ainley.
As no one else has made any edits between his edits, could I request that the page be reverted back to March 5th 2020.
openHow do we handle listing examples in multi-media works?
I want to add examples from the Fate Series onto main trope pages. However, Fate is a rather large series that's existed in multiple different forms of media (visual novels, anime, manga, video games, novels, etc.), so I wanted to ask how I should go about sorting examples involving multi-media franchises onto trope pages. I'm asking because I've seen this done in two different ways. Either the examples will be listed under separate folders based on the specific work the example happens in, or they'll be listed all under one folder based on the media the franchise started as. Basically, I'd like to ask which of these two type of sorting is considered the correct way to do this.
openIssues with Pop-Culture Isolation trope
Recently there was a thread asking to allow general examples on the Pop-Culture Isolation page. It referenced another thread where the consensus was very much against the idea, they had in fact commented out a number of examples that were very broad.
So I did a check on the page, and it seems that not only are there a lot of super general examples, people have been un-commenting out the examples (ex. here). There is a separate sub-page for Food and Drink, a sub-page "Other" that is chock full of very general examples (one example mentions "TONS of internet models and celebrities"), etc.
I think the page needs a cleanup, and personally I'd make it In-Universe Only, because listing out every single person/place/thing/animal/vegetable/mineral that is known in one (vague) area while unknown to the larger world could conceivably include every known thing in the universe.
openWhat can we do about the links in Web Games? Videogame
so, a lot of pages listed in Web Games have links that lead to the site where the game is hosted so you can play it. but with Adobe Flash Player's EOL rapidly approaching, i feel like something definitely should be done about it since on January 12th Adobe will be unable to run. should a cleanup be launched, or something like that?
Edited by Awe921openFemale Terrable? Videogame
I was going through the character page for Rune Factory, and saw the Samus Is a Girl trope on Terrable, claiming that Raven calls her female if you bring her to Terrable's boss fight in Rune Factory 4 (though there's a chance the troper mistook Terrable for Terraclone). However, while not a straight up Zero-Context Example, no sources or screenshots are shown, putting the legitimacy of this trope into question, at least for me. Could someone fact-check this (preferably with a screenshot or video recording) for me so that we can get it properly cited, please?
Edited by Blazing_LarvestaopenRequesting Trope List for main page
I was working on a trope list for a main page called Object Shows when I was recently informed that it was not allowed by some troper since it wasn't on the TLP and genre pages usually don't have a trope list. I thought it was necessary since across all the works on the main page, there are lots of shared tropes that could be elaborated and explained on.
I worked hard on the list and didn't want to lose it but I'm not sure how to do so. Can anyone please help?
openAbout shared voiced actors in different dub language
Is this something that can go to Hilarious in Hindsight ?
Edited by MysteriumopenFun With Acronyms: Does this count as an Inverted Trope example?
Based on the Playing With page of the trope:
"There is an organization called N.E.R.D, however nobody knows what it actually stands for."
open Recap Pages
This was brought up in a recent ATT query, about how recap pages can't have references to future episodes. Why is that? Recap pages are spoilers off, and if it's a foreshadowing heavy show such as Community, Arrested Development, Lost, etc. a lot of times elements in episodes can have important implications for future episodes/arcs and I feel it would be worthy to note that in the recap page.
Edit: I have created a Wiki Talk thread
Edited by jjjj2openRequesting mod revert
Back in April, I decided on a whim to comment out a very large number of Zero-Context Examples on Bubble Guppies. Today, I again decided on a whim to look at the page, and found that Kind Adaptable Kayak decided to undo my work with no edit reason in October.
I sent them a message, but I think that a moderator revert might come in handy here since it's a LOT of ZCEs and I don't feel like going through all that again.
Edited by ZuxtronopenAble to recover a deleted page? Web Original
Sorry for a question like this, but I was wondering if there's some way a page could be recovered - possibly through email? (EX: sending edit history) There was a TRG subpage that I've edited many many times over the years and in 2020 I did a complete redux of the page, changing coding and organizing quotes by date/series etc. 80% of the page was my edits and there were also many timestamps which I've now lost and wanted to save for archival + compilation purposes.
I'd hate to lose so much work from the past 5+ years. Is there a way any mod could email me the most recent edit history or something like that? The last time it was archived was in 2019, way before my big redux and there's a lot missing. Here's the page in question: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/HoYay/TheRunawayGuys
Edited by TRGopenTroper edit-warring, declined to take disagreement to discussion page
Betoniarz and I are having a disagreement over an entry for the trope LOL, 69 on the Crusader Kings III page.
History:
- Troper adds some extra content, that I felt was Natter. I sent a standard notifier for Natter.
- They asked for clarification since they edited the page several times (fair point).
- After clarifying to them, their response message included "In that time, you could fix it yourself."
- So I did fix it myself.
I don't want to extend the Edit War by making any more edits, so I'm coming here to get some feedback. I'm aware mods can see P Ms, so I'll let a mod decide either Betoniarz or myself have been unprofessional. I'll admit to not being a very friendly person, but I try to remain calm and collected when interacting with other tropers.
I sent a PM pointing them to this thread, so they can join in on discussing the entry.
Edit: They responded to my PM declining to join the discussion. I would ask that we respect that choice and not spam them with P Ms.
Edited by bitemytailopenUser Saeed-Albastaki deleting tropes from NRLEP index
Saeed-Albatski appears to be adding and deleting examples from the No Real Life Examples, Please indexes without any discussion or voting on the RL cleanup thread. I've found at least two, but given the amount I've seen on his recent edit history there could be alot more. I feel a mod should have a word with him before he continues this behavior.
openIgnore this
Sorry, I mistakenly posted this on ATT instead of Trope Finder. Ignore this.
Edited by GrotadmorvopenInvoked but it's not invoked.
So I'm adding an example of Obvious Beta, which is an objective trope. As part of the example I want to mention that the movie in question was brought out of Development Hell with almost no changes from its previously half-finished state, which is why it's an Obvious Beta. (Basically, the original producer ran out of money just before the big climax. The new producer bought it and didn't bother filming a climax, instead just filled in a few missing scenes and then ended it with the narrator coming in to say "and then suddenly the monster disappeared forever, the end.")
Thing is, Development Hell is a Trivia item and gives you that "trivia on the main page" error icon.
Using the [[Invoked]] tag can make the icon go away, but my understanding is that's for when a Trivia or YMMV item is used in-universe which isn't the case...
But it's also not exactly like I'm incorrectly listing Trivia items as examples on the main page, I'm just using it to add context to an objective trope...
So, what's the general rule on how to do this? Do I use the [[Invoked]] tag even though it's not really invoked? Do I mention it but not Wiki Word it? (As in, just saying "it was brought out of development hell" rather than "brought out of Development Hell".) Or what?
Edited by Mimic1990
Per prior ATT, I removed the following from Characters.Pokemon Sword And Shield Anime as better fitting Ho Yay as it seemed unintentional.
This was added back with the edit reason of "please keep the gay for god's sake don't be a homophobe"
While I think this new entry does a better job of arguing it's intentional, the tone of the edit reason and prior ATT is why I'm bringing it here.
This seems to be part of a larger issue I noticed: that there is no clear distinction between Ho Yay, Homoerotic Subtext, Ambiguously Gay/Bi, and Shipping Googles. These seem like too many tropes for one cleanup, is there a place to deal with them all of them or should we start with just one?
