Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

You know, If I know how Fate series looks like or if I ever played one, I may gonna do a re-EP of Kiara Sessyoin if I played the work she is from but maybe at a later time

Anyways, I really like to add some quotes for CM quotes category. And I guess I find them. What are your thoughts on these quotes?:

  • "I'LL KILL YOU ALL! Ha-ha! I’ll drive you crazy, and I’ll kill you all! I’m every nightmare you’ve ever had! I am your worst dream come true! I'm everything you ever were afraid of! RARGH!!!"-IT from 1990 Miniseries

  • "No, I'll take him. I'll take all of you! And I'll feast on your flesh as I feed on your fear. Or you just leave us be. I'll take him - only him. Then I will have my long rest, and you will all live to grow and thrive and lead happy lives. Until old age takes you back to the weeds."-IT 2017 version when holding Bill as a hostage

  • "Come on Roku. You really should've cast Iron Armor. Still, I guess in the end,(Looks at Benio) a loser will never be anymore than a loser, huh? (Grabs Benio's head) You know...You weren't really trying to kill me at first, were you? I'm sure I'm wrong, but...Did you perhaps think this was all some kind of misunderstanding? That maybe I was someone other than the brother you knew? You didn't believe that, did you!? (Proceeds to take Benio's hair tie that Yuto gives to her years ago) The fact that you're still wearing the hair tie I gave you proves how pathetic you are. (Proceeds to smashes the Hair tie). You really don't deserve to live neither as a human being nor an exorcist. I don't even need to destroy you myself. Go on hating your own weakness as you die a meaningless death."-Yuuto taunting Benio as he tries to left her to death

Thoughts on these quotes? Do they scream CM in your opinion or not?

So time to finally talk about the last ten episodes of Teen Wolf.

In the previous season 6A, Beacon Hills faced a new threat in the form of The Wild Hunt AKA Ghost Riders, and this werewolf-lion-nazi-guy. The riders take people and erase the memories of those around them, and have a tendency to wipe out towns. This season also saw the unfortunate return of Theo Raeken, and culminates in not just the villains defeats, Scott and his friends graduating, Lydia and Stiles hooking up, as well as Chris Argent and Scott's mother Melissa (I'm not to keen on the them; her son and his daughter used to date! It's just wierd!). This season, Scott and his friends are preparing to leave Beacon Hills before college starts with Scott working as an assistant coach for the lacrosse team, Malia planning a trip to France; Stiles working to join the FBI and finds that former main cast member Derek Hale is on the most wanted list (neither of them become plot relevant until like the last two episodes); Lydia wants to give her mother the know how with dealing with the supernatural, despite the latter wanting to avoid the matter; Liam is set to take the reigns for Scott around town as acting Alpha, but isn't too confident as his girlfriend Hayden has left town to protect her sister.

But another season sees another threat; in addition to Gerard Argent returning to kickstart another werewolf genocide, something else is spreading a fear plague within Beacon Hills, at which point we introduce the seasons dominate Big Bad; The Anuk-Ite.

Now before we eventually get to the Anuk-Ite itself, I want to do some updates for returning villains, and get a second new candidate out of the way. This one serves as an update on returning CM villains and to see if they still count. We'll be talking the other two later today.

Gerard Argent Update

First and foremost, let's talk Gerard Argent, the OG CM of Teen Wolf and in my opinion, the most important villain in the series; as the Big Bad of season two, and Greater-Scope Villain of seasons one and three, almost all the villainy and drama on this show can be traced back to Gerard being the first domino to trigger the events of the series.

This season has Gerard taking back control of the hunters and building an army to get back to his initial business from back in season two; killing all the werewolves and supernatural creatures in Beacon Hills. His role starts when a new guidance counsellor Miss Tamora Monroe, an up and coming werewolf hunter, encounters a werewolf by the name of Brett Talbot in the woods. Gerard meets Monroe and wounds Brett, saying that he recognizes raw talent when he sees it. The two chase him down throughout the next episode, with Scott and Malia helping Brett's sister Lorilee. Of course despite Scott and co's efforts, Gerard's cat and mouse game ends with Brett and Lorilee killed on the street, in front a all crowd of people with Liam getting caught in wolf form in public. This of course being part of Gerard's plan; using the growing fear in Beacon Hills as a means to build his army.

Due to the Anuk-Ite's influence, the student body and most of Beacon Hills already going into anti-werewolf mode in addition to the new hunters coming to town, Chris goes to confront Gerard and find out his agenda. Gerard lays his cards on the table, he's just wants genocide and revenge for his previous defeats. Chris advises Melissa to get Scott out of town, but Scott's not going nowhere. Scott and Liam have also learnt of Miss Monroe being a new Hunter and are coming up with a plan. See Scott, ever the optimist, wants to see if there's a peaceful way of preventing the war, despite the odds being stacked against him. When Scott meets Gerard, he claims to be a "mere adviser" to Monroe, who's another blatant Puppet King to Gerard. This meeting gets interrupted when the Anuk-Ite itself shows up, triggering a panic attack from the other hunters. This leads to a shootout, while Gerard and Monroe flee.

After a standoff between the hunters and the local police, Scott and his friends (and Theo are seemingly taken out of town for their protection, but they don't give up that easily and plan to find a way to deal with the hunters once and for all. And luckily, Scott's father Rafael, an FBI agent is leading an investigation on Beacon Hills. Gerard is also questioned about his weapons stockpile, which Gerard claims to have a Federal Firearms Licence, and that he sells weapons legally. When Liam and Theo start a ruckus at an abandoned zoo to lure the hunters, Gerard arrives along with Monroe and a couple of dozen men. This distraction is for Scott, Malia, Lydia and Chris to raid Gerard's armory, and rigging the place to blow. Back at the zoo, Gerard hands Nolan a cross bow and sends him to the south side of the zoo alone to kill whoever he finds; Monroe points out that odds are Nolan will get killed, but Gerard says he's okay with that as long as he takes some of them with him. Gerard later tells Monroe what exactly he has in mind for Scott; he wants to kill Liam specifically because he's Scott's beta, and he compares the relationship between a parent and child. He wants to break Scott by breaking his "family" so to speak.

But surely that's not Gerard's ultimate agenda, right ? Well you'd be correct. See when Scott's in his armory, he finds a map, with several key locations across the globe. Scott steals the map and shows it to his friends back at the house. The map shows the locations of Nementon trees around the world (think this universes equivalent of Buffy the Vampire Slayer hellmouths, and serve as beacons). As Chris points out, if you want to kill every supernatural on the world, you'd start with the Nementons. Scott's arrives and explains that Gerard already sold all his weapons, meaning he's armed his army. And speak of the devil, a posse of hunters start shooting up the McCall house from the outside. In the firefight, Melissa, Rafael, and Lydia are caught in the crossfire and hospitalized the next episode.

Gerard next shows up when the Anuk-Ite gains its full form and going on a rampage at the hospital. It reaches the morgue where it meets Gerard, who avoids eye contact with it and the two talk. Gerard warns the Anuk-Ite that it can't beat Scott in a physical fight "You may be able to kill him with a look, but you'd be surprised how resourceful he is." The Anuk-Ite asks what Gerard wants from their bargain; Gerard wants the Anuk-Ite to kill Scott and his friends, and then he drive out all the supernatural creatures in Beacon Hills.

In the series finale, after Monroe's hunters get driven off in an initial fight, Gerard contacts Scott and his friends on a radio, revealing that he has Deputy Parish locked down in Eichen House; had his men intercept Scott's father; has more of his men search the hospital and narrowing down on Liam, Corey, Mason and Melissa, with another hunter playing possum in a hospital bed; all the while Gerard is torturing Jackson. Earlier Gerard has sent his daughter Kate to steal yellow wolvesbane, which can weaken powerful creatures such as an alpha werewolf. Gerard uses this wolvesbane to create two bullets for the purposes of weakening Scott.

Now some context here; following season one it was believed that Kate was killed by Peter Hale, however it's revealed she survived at the end of season three and it's also revealed that the bite of an alpha isn't the only thing that can create a werewolf, but sometimes a scratch will do. However sometimes it doesn't even create a werewolf at all; if you have something like wolvesbane or mountain ash in your system you could turn into another type of shapeshifter depending on your personality. For example, Kate was turned into a werejaguar.

Gerard gives one of the bullets to Monroe, who tracks Scott down to the school, with Scott facing the Anuk-Ite as defeating it will end its influence over Gerard's army. Back at the armoury, Kate gets angry that that she wasn't given the honour of killing Scott and confronts Gerard. Gerard tells Kate he doesn't consider her his daughter anymore since she's a werejaguar, and casually shoots her in the stomach with the other bullet. As Gerard prepares to finish her off, Chris enters to room to confront his father. Chris explains that Scott already figured everything out and as the Anuk-Ite is defeated, Gerard's plans go up in smoke. Gerard angrily tells Chris he betrayed his family and Kate begins to laugh at Gerard for being a stupid old man who put too much focus on Scott. Kate then transforms into her werejaguar form and proceeds to rip Gerard apart as Chris walks out of the room.

Gerard gets no redeeming or sympathetic qualities this season, and continues to contribute to the heinous standard with his plan for total genocide. Now pretty much Gerard's new motives are ones of wounded pride, essentially that he can't handle his defeat at the hands of a young werewolf like Scott.

Gerard also claims that he's mad that his family was taken apart, again a pride thing; Gerard only cares about being in power and control, especially when the Argents are pretty much a royal family among werewolf hunters, so what Gerard is really talking about is the loss of his empire. Even in season two when Gerard was using Kate's "death" as an excuse for his plans, he treated it like it was his daughters death. While taking Monroe under his wing, he at one point he describes a pseudo familial relationship between an alpha and their beta, comparing it to the relationship a parent has with their child, and bluntly warns Monroe not to expect the same relationship with him. Chris even warns Kate not to expect Gerard to care about anyone but himself. And as explained above Gerard attempts to kill Kate in the series finale on the ground that she is now a werejaguar (which is rich coming from a guy who back in season two revealed his master plan was to become an alpha werewolf himself to cure his cancer; after having his daughter-in-law killed, while threatening his granddaughter and admitting he'd kill his own son for his survival), and even drops the "You betrayed our family" line to Chris while pointing a gun to his face, with Kate wounded on the ground.

In short Gerard still counts and after avoiding death for four seasons (seven if you count A and B seasons), has finally got what he had coming.

Theo Raeken Update

As previously stated, Theo Raeken has made a comeback in 6A, having escaped Hell. He was part of an Enemy Mine situation when battling the Wild Hunt. We discussed a possibility of cutting him do to his role, where he gets some needlessly selfless moments that he didn't subvert, despite his usual tendency of subverting any redeeming or sympathetic qualities he had, usually within the same episode or even within moments of showing them. There was also the implication that he was selfishly and pragmatically motivated; his main motivation was that he didn't want to go back to a place where he was tortured and he doesn't want to the world to be destroyed because of Pragmatic Villainy.

We decided to put what to do with him on hold once arc is done and now that it finally is, let's talk Theo.

When we first see him this season, he's been living on his own in a truck, down on his luck and constantly pestered by police. He has this bizarre dream of a spider which crawls under his skin forcing him to carve it out. This prompts him to seek Scott for help when he is cornered by werewolf hunters, who fill him with pump him full of bullets.

A few episodes later it turns out Theo is alive and he's shown being tortured along with two other young werewolves. They are strapped to a metal cage and constantly electrocuted. Theo uses quick thinking to weaken and break loose his restraints and the other two break out before leaving their captive strapped to the cage and electrocuted as well. As the three leave, Theo and the other two are immediately arrested. It turns out the other two werewolves killed some hunters after their lack was wiped out, and given Theo's history he's suspect. After a Not Me This Time, Scott and his friends arrive at the station to get some information, when a mob of hunters lead by Monroe surround the building (keep in mind, this is a lynch mob that are threatening to attack a police station in hopes of killing two kids in custody; they still say they are the good guys). After Rafael McCall resolves the issue, Theo remains in Beacon Hills with Scott's pack to battle Gerard's army.

For the rest of the season Theo acts as an uneasy ally to Scott and his fends and doesn't do much in the villainy department besides two Kick The Son Of A Bitch moments, and evoking The Corrupter when he and Liam interrogate Gabe by seemingly suggesting Liam kill Gabe (Alternate Character Interpetation can also say he was using sarcasm to talk Liam out of it). Now Theo never shows or speaks any remorse for his actions in season five, and other characters say they don't forgive him for what he's done. Even in the finale he says to Liam he will fight with him but not die for him.

But then in his last scene Theo gets a major and absolutely selfless Pet the Dog moment; after the final battle, when a young hunter named Gabe is shot and mortally wounded and dying very painfully, Theo walks up to Gabe, and uses the werewolf ability to take pain away through physical contact, and takes Gabe's pain so he can die peacefully

So yeah cut him.

And I gotta say I'm disappointed. While I hated Theo as a villain, I gave him credit for being a subversion of the Draco in Leather Pants trope (and even then he was a watered down Kai Parker in that department). By bringing him back for the sake of redeeming him, I feel that it kind of betrays the purpose of this kind of character, but that's just me talking. I don't know, just feels like fan-servicing. While he's no the worst or most blatant carbon copy of the DILP trope, nor the most poorly handled redemption I have ever seen for such characters, a cuts a cut.

Jennifer Blake Update

And lastly the Jennifer Blake matter. This was something Lighty and I previously discussed about, within a possible redeeming qualities coming up back in season 3A. I never really got the chance to revisit her and now the season is over, I guess there's no beating around the bush.

She was also brought up some weeks back regarding her Freudian Excuse of being maimed, mutilated and left to die by her best friend. Me and Lighty also previously talked about her feeling for Derek, and while she was certainly manipulating him, there where signs she genuinely cared for him (this her actress confirmed) like how even when they turn against eachother and she attacks him, she looked reluctant and sad about it.

Well now that it's finally out of the way, what does Jennifer bring this season ? Nothing.

It turns out her return was in the form of the Anuk-Ite using her visage to distract and taunt Derek. She never actually comes back from the dead.

It also sort of dawned on me that Jennifer, for being a Wicked Witch Serial Killer, isn't that much heinous compared to other monsters and villains we've got in terms of body count or attempted body count; she only kills like twelve people, compared to the dozens the Nogitsinue left in his wake and the hundreds Sebastian Valet left in his.

So in short ? Cut her.
