Old Magnificent Bastard thread

Welcome to the Magnificent Bastard proposal thread! This is the thread where new Magnificent Bastard examples are vetted, approved, and written up. If you're looking for the general cleanup thread (for cuts, rewrites, expansions, and the like), please go here

Important: Before suggesting any new examples, please read the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List; if you have any questions, the odds are high they are answered there. Additionally, please check here for the earliest date a work can be discussed (usually two weeks from the U.S. release date) and whether the work has already been reserved by another user.

Here is how the process works:

    Process

  1. If you have a candidate to propose, you can simply come right in and propose them! If the character's run is brief, such as a single issue of a comic book, then a simple summary of their actions and any potential mitigating features will be enough; for longer-running candidates, an effortpost (EP) might be helpful for organizing the proposal. An EP is not outright required, but please be mindful that if a post becomes too clunky and unorganized, it can be very hard for other people to follow.

  2. After the proposal, there will be a 72-hour discussion and voting period, where people may ask questions and vote on the candidate. The number of upvotes must outnumber the downvotes by at least five for the character to be considered "approved".

  3. Three days after the proposal has been made, if the character has been approved, you may post the writeup (the text to be posted on the trope page itself) on the thread and send it to the drafts page. Your candidate will soon be added to the MB subpage. If the work has a page, you should add your candidate to the relevant YMMV page. Voila! It's that simple!

Outside of this process, we do have a few ground rules:

    Ground Rules

  1. To keep the thread moving at a reasonable pace, there are some restrictions on when a proposal can be made. There should only be a maximum of four EPs posted both per page and per hour to ensure that nothing gets lost in the shuffle; additionally, each individual troper should only be proposing or writing up characters from a maximum of three works at a time (from initial proposals to end of their voting period). If your proposal would fall outside of either of these guidelines, we'd like to ask you to please wait until they would fit within; feel free to type them up on an outside document, and then when the time comes, you can just copy, paste, and post!

  2. No plagiarism of any kind. This is a very serious matter site-wide, as the website could get in actual legal trouble over this; as a result, this can very quickly lead to mod intervention. This can take many different forms:
    1. Direct plagiarism, i.e. wholesale copying. This is not only the easiest to find, but is also the most likely to warrant quick moderator intervention. To be clear, quoting in some places is perfectly acceptable, but it has to be very clear you're quoting from something else and it cannot be anything longer than a sentence or two - if you're quoting an entire work summary from Wikipedia, no one is going to believe you've actually consumed the work, so even if you cite your source, your candidate will be downvoted anyway.
    2. Self-plagiarism. Even if you can prove that you wrote the same text in both places, the site itself can't contain any of the duplicated text. If you already wrote something once before, it's not too hard to write it a second time.
    3. Using another site's work as a template for a proposal. Just because you don't copy and paste something directly doesn't mean it's any harder to detect if you're basing parts or all of your proposal on text someone else wrote. To be clear, this doesn't violate site rules and won't lead to mod intervention, but just like if you directly plagiarize, no one will believe you've consumed the work if you're clearly basing your proposal on something else. This thread largely operates on the honor system, and tweaking someone else's work to pass it off as your own is one of the fastest ways to lose trust.

  3. Votes must be for specific candidates, meaning no blanket voting (i.e. "yes to everyone I missed").

  4. If you are the first person to downvote a candidate, please provide an explanation of why when you do so. We're here for discussions above all, and a hit-and-run downvote doesn't facilitate anything.

  5. If a work is already reserved by another user, please don't comment on the work or any potential characters worth discussion before the discussion date. We know how exciting it is when a work has a keeper that you're waiting to talk about, but it's not fair to the person who reserved the work who is just as excited to lead the discussion to see the discussion getting spoiled before they get to do it. On the other hand, if the reservation only has one name attached, shoot them a PM - they may be down for a collaboration, which will get you in on the fun as well!

  6. Please keep the thread on-topic. While discussing the trope is fun and we encourage people to enjoy it, questions like "who's your favorite MB" are off-topic and can lead to thumps. That's the kind of question to take to people's PMs if they're willing. Similarly, while we encourage friendliness and familiarity with other users, posts should always have some kind of thread-relevant purpose; for instance, if you want to wish someone a happy birthday, feel free to, but if it's the only thing in the post, it's off-topic and needs something else alongside it. Again, though, while we strive for a friendly atmosphere, this is not Facebook; life updates are fun, but unless they have some kind of impact on your thread participation, please do not bring it here - we have Yack Fest for that.

  7. Please refrain from asking anything along the lines of "How Did We Miss This One?" In almost every case, the answer is simply "No one thought about it before". This Is a Wiki where everyone has different interests, and the fact that people missed a particular candidate, even one that seems like a textbook example of a trope or a character who is particularly iconic in pop culture, means absolutely nothing. The question is disruptive, has a simple and consistent answer, and provides nothing to any discussion.

  8. If you are suspended from other parts of the website, it is still possible to participate!
    1. For users who are suspended from editing the wiki, you still have full access to this thread. You can propose candidates and write them up with no issues whatsoever; while you will have to ask someone else to post the entry to the relevant pages once it is done, all write-ups are considered thread-approved - as in, done by consensus - and thus doing so does not violate any rules regarding meatpuppeting.
    2. If you are suspended from the forums, your participation is limited but not impossible. It is still possible for a forum-suspended user to assist in creating the write-up for a character who has already been approved; as previously mentioned, write-ups are inherently considered a consensus-based edit and thus not tied to any one particular user. However, you can not assist in the proposal of a character; as a proposal is based around the forum rather than the wiki, doing so with a forum suspension qualifies as meatpuppeting.

  9. Please keep all discussions "in-house".
    1. What other wikis use for MB equivalents is irrelevant here.
    2. Please be wary of using other wikis, Fandom or otherwise, as sources of information. They are just as fallible as a site like Wikipedia in regards to accuracy because they can be edited by any user, just as this site can.
    3. Do not attempt to force a communication with an author in an attempt to gather evidence or settle a debate; besides the fact that this is a YMMV trope and thus author intent has variable weight depending on the circumstance, doing so may cross the line into drama exportation, which is prohibited site-wide.

If you would like to use an EP for your candidate, here's the general format. This format does not have to be followed exactly, but these are the main topics that need to be covered:

    Effortpost Template

What is the work?

This is a brief summary of the work you're going to discuss. We don't need a full plot summary here, just however much we need to understand going into the discussion — it can even be as simple as quoting the summary on the work's page.

Who is the candidate and what have they done?

This is essentially the character's biography — who they are, their story, their goals and methodology, and, preferably (though not required), what happens to the candidate at the end. It does not have to include every single thing they ever do — for some characters, we'd be here all day if that was the case — but it should include the highlights of their journey.

How are they Magnificent?

This is the point where you highlight the character's brilliance. How to they convey their intelligence and charm to the audience? What makes them stand out among the crowd? What are their goals and how do they go about accomplishing them? This part welcomes a lot of creative thinking — not everyone has to be a Machiavellian Diabolical Mastermind to be worth considering here! This is also the time to showcase how the character can think on their feet if it's necessary.

How are they a Bastard? How are they not too bad?

What kinds of moral lines is this character willing to cross for the sake of their goal? Are they willing to let innocents die? Start wars? Commit crimes? The character has to show some kind of unscrupulousness in order to count as a "Bastard". Notably, this character does not necessarily have to be the villain, and an Anti-Hero can cross the line if they're immoral enough, but they have to be immoral somehow.

This is also the section where you then state your case for why they're not too bad. Perhaps their good intentions help mitigate their crimes. Perhaps others are shown to be much worse than them. Perhaps they're prone to Pet the Dog moments or are even fighting on behalf of loved ones. Whatever the case, there are certain lines that an MB can't cross, but as long as their villainy is reasonable for their goal, they can be considered.

Final verdict?

This is where you post your final conclusion on the character in question. You can continue elaborating on your reasons or even just say a simple "yes" or "no"; at this point, we've heard everything we need to hear.

And that's everything you need to know. Welcome to the thread!

Aight here's a possible guy from Transformers: Prime who might make it...if his final moments aren't too damning. During season 2, the Autobots receive a signal that two Transformers were duelling it out in public, with it showing that it's one of their allies Wheeljack fighting a Decepticon named Dreadwing played by the one and only Tony Todd... guess who's the candidate? Thankfully this'll be a much shorter EP than Megatron's lmao. The EP will cover episodes which have a strong focus on him or at least if he does anything notable.

Who is Dreadwing and what has he done?

Brother of the Decepticon Skyquake who was slain during Season One, Dreadwing felt his spark die out and headed to Earth to investigate, killing an Autobot named Seaspray on his journey and almost killing Wheeljack there too. When he and Wheeljack arrive on Earth, they duel with Dreadwing having the upper hand until he sees the Autobots arrive. To escape them, Dreadwing scans a jet to gain it's flight mode, letting him escape.

Eventually meeting Megatron aboard the Nemesis, Dreadwing is informed about his brother's demise although is told that it was during Starscream's command due to Megatron being in the coma. When Megatron warns him that seeking revenge would be foolish (since challenging Prime would not end well), Dreadwing disobeys and lures Wheeljack and Bulkhead into a trap, kidnapping Bulkhead and using him as bait with an explosive by him to kill both Wheeljack and Optimus. Despite being held down at forced to disable Bulkhead's bomb, Dreadwing activates the other bombs he left around the cargo hold before returning to Megatron, pledging his loyalties to the leader.

When Megatron wanted Airachnid killed for her untrustworthy nature, he has Breakdown and Dreadwing join her on an expedition with orders to terminate her. Unfortunately, Airachnid kept on provoking Breakdown—resulting him in attack Airachnid. Although Dreadwing does attempt a few shots at her, he gets webbed to a tree and despite him telling Breakdown to not be a fool and chase her on his own but to free him, Breakdown ignores him in a fit of rage and ends up being brutally murdered by Airachnid (this in turn ends up benefitting Silas whose soldiers recover what remains of Breakdown.)

When Dreadwing returns to an annoyed Megatron who in turn receives a taunting challenge from Airachnid, the leader departs before commanding Dreadwing to stay. Dreadwing instead follows Megatron with a group of Decepticons where they have a stand off against the Autobots when they have Megatron dead to rights. Dreadwing promises the Autobots that he'd let them live if he can take Megatron back which he does keep...except Megatron doesn't since he didn't make the promise and has his troops attack the Autobots. As Megatron and Dreadwing fly off, he notes to Dreadwing that he's to become his second-in-command due to disobeying him but not for a self centred agenda.

Tasked by Megatron to retrieve an artifact from Antarctica, Dreadwing ends up capturing Starscream and discovering the artifact is no longer there. When Optimus arrives due to also tracking the same relic, him and Dreadwing duel with it resulting in Dreadwing being buried under ice. Breaking out from his predicament, Dreadwing tracks Optimus and Starscream and duels the former. Unfortunately for them two, Starscream dons the relic—the Apex Armour— for himself, forcing the pair into an Enemy Mine with Dreadwing using his explosives to break the ice Starscream was standing on, forcing him into the depths of the ocean. Despite Optimus offering Dreadwing a chance to join the Autobots, he refuses although does leave Optimus unharmed as he returns to the Nemesis.

After Optimus wields the Star Saber (and leaves Megatron speechless.), Dreadwing joins Megatron to break into the tomb of a Prime to retrieve the arm of one so he could wield the forge of Solus Prime to combat the Star Saber problem. Dreadwing is then tasked to retrieve one of the Omega Keys where he sets a trap which almost gets Bulkhead and Smokescreen although Bulkhead goads Dreadwing into fighting him. Although he attempted to use one of his explosives to take out Bulkhead, the tides are turned on Dreadwing when Bulkhead uses his own explosive against him.

Losing the keys to the Autobots, Dreadwing confers with Megatron about trying to locate their base to retrieve the keys—discovering Starscream on the Nemesis' bridge with all of the Omega Keys. To see Starscream's true agenda, Megatron gets Dreadwing to free Knock Out from the wall he's stuck in. During Megatron's mental interrogation of Starscream, it shows him of Starscream and Knock-Out's discussion to declare Megatron dead to Soundwave (since unless your name is Megatron, Soundwave is the most dreaded authority on the ship lmao despite just being the communications officer). This in turn makes Knock Out fearful that Megatron would kill him for the intended betrayal, having him almost trap Megatron in Starscream's mind, until Dreadwing intervenes, noticing Knock Out fumbling about with the cable. Staying with Knock Out to watch the interrogation, it's revealed to Dreadwing that Skysquake didn't just die but ended up remaining an undead terrorcon doomed to venture within another dimension...which pisses Dreadwing to say the least.

Not pleased with the revelation of his brother and Megatron allowing Starscream back on the Decepticons, Dreadwing becomes disillusioned with the cause and steals the forge of Solus Prime and gives it the Autobots, citing to put it to good use. Optimus offers Dreadwing a chance to join their side but he refuses noting that betraying his side isn't the same as joining theirs. Returning to the Nemesis, Megatron speaks to Dreadwing about needing to have the Decepticons united since infighting always leads to carnage. Heading to Starscream, Dreadwing goes to kill the robot for the whole undead brother thing, with Megatron arriving and telling Dreadwing to stand down, Dreadwing says to Megatron it's an order he cannot obey before almost slaying Starscream, forcing Megatron to shoot Dreadwing in the chest, killing him. While Starscream is escatic about being alive, Megatron says to him that he better not make him regret having to murder Dreadwing for it.

Is he magnificence?

I'd say so. Personailty wise? Affably Evil, sense of honour and is shown to keep his word so he's good on there. He doesn't go through the slapstick of Knock Out and Starscream and even avoids physical abuse from Megatron, only verbal for any failure, although Megatron does respect Dreadwing's loyalty. Competent wise? He's an able warrior able to go toe-to-toe against Optimus so there's that.

Dreadwing's got a niche with his explosives which do work in his favour with any of his defeats never being a humiliating one or with him having a Villainous Breakdown so I'd say he's good there as well?

Now to address any hiccups?

The Airachnid problem, Breakdown ruined that due to his fit of rage with the taunts from Airachnid. Dreadwing tells him to remain calm since it's a unified effort before Breakdown attacks her.

The major problem...his demise. It's an unfortunate end to his character since he's the only Decepticon Megatron actually murders and he was arguably one of the most loyal. If we'd just base it off those final moments, I wouldn't put him up for the EP but there's a major thing that Dreadwing does that aided the Autobots, the returning of the Forge Of Solus Prime. For context, this is basically a device that, when wielded by a prime, can forge practically anything and Dreadwing returns it to them after feeling disillusioned by the Decepticons. When Optimus asks about the Omega Keys, Dreadwing responds that they're under strict guarding protocols, so that to me at least implies that he would've returned those to the Autobots as well.

His actual death? It's not portrayed as pathetic FWIW since he almost has Starscream dead to rights until Megatron arrived. The only who looks pathetic in the scene is Starscream...who well yeah.

The return of the forge.

Dreadwing's final moments (from the link to about 9 minutes 10 seconds.)

Is he a bastard?

Dreadwing is still a Decepticon and is shown to have a confirmed Autobot casualty but has many other traits which help nullify it, Affably Evil, sense of honour, the general schtick. The other cons are way worse with their villainy and even Soundwave is complicit with the Omega Key-wipe-out-all-life-on-Earth-schtick so he's nowhere near being too bad for the trope.

Final Verdict?

Because of his last moments? Imma leave this one to you guys.

And apart from my last Prime guy incoming here's the other notable villains and why they don't count.

  • Starscream: Way too sadistic, cowardly and a massive Butt-Monkey. Also he's inadvertently for half of the troops being wiped out in Season 3. Great villain but not this trope.
  • Knock Out: Basically a Butt-Monkey version of Shockwave.
  • Breakdown: He basically gets provoked into his own demise and is brutally murdered by Airachnid.
  • Makeshift: Eh, his whole episode is Bulkhead pointing out flaws in his impersonation and dies with not knowing a grenade is strapped to him. Funnily enough he was killed off because he was too OP lmao.
  • Skyquake: In his stand alone episode I'd think he's fine but Starscream uses his remains to revive him as a terrorcon and he's left as an undead zombie roaming another dimension looking for his arm. Idk how you guys would feel about him since it's a fair few episodes after his death and he's still technically dead?
  • Airachnid: HA, yeah no. Heavy Complete Monster with sadism to boot. She pulls off some decent schemes but her final appearances play out as this: Gets trapped in a stasis pod for like 20 episodes, is released on accident by zombie Cylas, attempts to take back control, Soundwave says no lol and sends her to a Cybertron moon where it's revealed she's infected and is draining the Insecticons of their energon as a vampiric zombie.
  • Silas: Now to me personally, Silas was doing well enough for MB...then he merges with Breakdown, slaughters his allies who saved him, and ends up being dragged away screaming begging for help from Megatron who sends him to be Knock Out's lab specimen. His final appearance is him not in control of the virus he's under with him dying by Airachnid.
  • Hardshell: Lacks the charm (despite being voiced by David Kaye of all actors lmao) and is visibly terrified by Megatron and not in a good way and ultimately is killed by Miko, a human girl.

Thoughts on my statement there?

Anyway, here's the write-up for Garp

  • One Piece (2023): Monkey D. Garp shows a more cunning side to him than his manga counterpart. Finding out that his grandson Luffy has became a pirate, Garp uses Captain Morgan's past corruption to strip him of his power and take control of his division to chase the Straw Hats through the East Blue. Garp tracks down the Straw Hats at every turn, even using Coby and Helmeppo's failure to arrest Luffy at The Gecko Islands as an opportunity to attack the Straw Hats' ship directly when they take off. Upon defeating Luffy at Conomi Islands, when Luffy refuses to give up on his dream, Garp lets him go, revealing all of his actions were to test Luffy's resolve. Garp later takes in Coby and Helmeppo as his disciples as a result of them following their own code and refusing to arrest Luffy for a crime he didn't commit.

Epic Rap Battles of History: Darth Vader himself is the Lighter Shade of Black in this series’ trilogy of rap battles against Arch Enemy Adolf Hitler. Vader constantly devises creative and ruthless ways to verbally humiliate and physically abuse the despicable dictator, ranging from Force choking him into Carbonite in the first battle and disguising himself as Boush The Bounty Hunter, unthawing Hitler, and tricking him into standing over the rancor pit in the second. When Hitler escapes from the pit and challenges Vader to battle him under threat of death, Vader accepts the challenge and once again verbally deconstructs Hitler before letting his trusted “homeboy” Boba Fett finish his verse, genuinely enjoying Fett’s rapping before Hitler shoots Fett in a fit of rage. Vader swiftly slices the Nazi in half, putting Hitler down for good. Dignified, composed and a devoted Father to His Men, Vader frequently shows disgust with Hitler for his atrocities and his lack of pragmatism.

Alright, I know the candidate didn't gain a lot of voters, but after giving it some thought, and being cautious about length, I think The Night Bandit deserves a re-examination. This one is definitely shorter. I assure you.

Who's Is She?

Once again, I'm talking about the Big Bad for Just Add Magic's third/final season, "The Night Bandit" or Kelly Quinn herself.

After the previous season's Big Bad tried to destroy every trace of magic, and wiped nearly everyone's memories (including the OCs). The mastermind destroyed the main girl trio's magic spice garden and nearly wiped the girls' memories of magic with it.

But the girls managed to keep their memories, and were able to use a magic recipe with enough Cedronian to bring back the spice garden. But Cedronian recipes always came with a price to pay for whoever pours the spice in, and long story short: Kelly poured the elixir onto the garden = Kelly gets magically poisoned in its place and becomes the next season's Big Bad / Villain Protagonist. The magic fed off of Kelly's insecurities of losing Hannah and Darbie after they're no longer the protectors, and led to her wanting to her, Hannah and Darbie to be the permanent protectors.

What Has She Done?

  • For the majority of the season/storyline, we're led to believe that the season's antagonist is Springtown Coffee owner, Erin Chua — and that she was going to Mama P and asking for her help in cooking a top secret recipe. But near the end of the season, it's revealed that this Erin was a fake as The Night Bandit took advantage of Mama P selling her restaurant and the real Erin turning it into Springtown Coffee, in order to use "Chameleon Cauliflower" to impersonate Erin, so she could ask Mama P for favors, and hunt after magic and ingredients without revealing her true self. The real Erin was a Sheep in Sheep's Clothing.
  • Magic plants and spices started growing in random areas all over town (mostly gardens), forcing the girl trio gather all the magic plants bring them to Kelly's house. The three of them would undo the spells caused by the magic plants and eventually destroy the rapidly growing plants, with another magic recipe. Kelly claimed that the out-of-control growing plants was the price they were paying for regrowing their garden. But since Kelly being poisoned was the real price, that means Kelly secretly grew the magic plants to get Hannah and Darbie off her tail, and drew suspicion away from her for some time. At some unknown point, Kelly would steal the night-blooming mints she and the other girls had collected, without drawing suspicion or getting caught.
  • After doing some searching in Charles Peizer's secret bunker, she come across Chuck's pie tin which he used to cook the Mulberry Pie — and crafted a plan to steal it from the history exhibit when it was presented, using a spell that could melt glass. Kelly takes part in cooking, and "accidently" turns up the oven heat for the recipe to 450° rather than 400°, while making it looking like an accident, making that spell work differently than indented, and forcing the trio —including herself — to relive the day over and over again. The cycle lasted hundreds of loops and three weeks, until Kelly eventually convinced Hannah and Darbie they had to relive the day exactly the same as the first time — and let the pie tin get stolen — while secretly adding a counter-spell.
  • "Erin" extracted the morbium residence left over from Charles' pie tin to form a piece of morbium inside a jar, but fails to duplicate it. Fake Erin restores Mama P's magic memories yet again so she could discuss the morbium she tried to duplicate for her recipe. P reveals the spell just needed one morbium, but all 3 of the cooks would have to cook the recipe. Fake Erin realized there was still a way to do the recipe, letting slip that she had "ways of making the others cook", leading Mama P to realize Kelly was mastermind. Kelly claimed that she, Hannah and Darbie deserved the magic more than anyone else, and had to keep the book forever. P's unfazed by this and unconvinced of Kelly's apparent "good intentions" (especially since Hannah and Darbie didn't even know about this), but Kelly responds by erasing P's magic memories, to cover her tracks and prevent P from stopping her. She then calls Hannah and Darbie claiming she found a recipe to catch the Night Bandit, but really the recipe was the Ida's "Keep The Cookbook Casserole", which the girls would unwittingly help her cook.
  • Hannah and Darbie realize Kelly's birthday party had gotten spelled to never end, and when they learn Kelly had spelled it in an attempt to chase everyone out, they suspected Kelly was actually the Night Bandit... but Kelly overhears these claims, and claims it was irrational to accuse her of being the Night Bandit just because she was impatient, which actually calms them down. But later, Darbie accidently knocks down Kelly's algebra textbook, which contained Ida's recipe with the same ingredients as Kelly's, and she and Hannah learn Kelly was Night Bandit.
  • With Gina Silver and Becky Quinn having their magic memories back, The two of them recalled a banana bread spell they used to get into people's heads, and decided to use it for Kelly so they could learn why she was acting so weird. Late that night during the girls' annual sleepover, they get inside Kelly's head with the banana bread, and learn she was insecure over losing Hannah and Darbie after they're no longer the protectors reaching its boiling point, and her mind was poisoned. So the next day, Kelly's convinced to have a slice of the magic banana bread, which took her inside Hannah and Darbie's minds and made her see how they really felt, showing them they still were, and always would be good friends even without magic. This causes Kelly to break through the poison and instantly reform herself and apologize... partially because she used a sleepwalking spell on Hannah and Darbie and had them cook the casserole without their awareness. And thus, the Night Bandit still technically won.

Is She Magnificent?

Sure. She was already a Guile Hero during the first 2 seasons, despite her occasional arrogance, controlling tendencies and jerkish moments, and she's just as intelligent and crafty as the season's Hidden Villain.

She was aware that bringing back the magic spice garden with Cedronian would come with a powerful price, and so she created a bunch magical plants that grew all over town without her friends' awareness and stated that the out-of-control growing plants was the price they were paying for regrowing their garden, to get Hannah and Darbie off her tail, and draw suspicion away from her.

She took advantage of Mama P selling her restaurant and Erin Chua turning it into Springtown Coffee, in order to use "Chameleon Cauliflower" to impersonate Erin, so she could ask Mama P for favors, and hunt after magic and ingredients without revealing her true self. A rather smart choice as to other protectors, she was just another Evil Chef who owned successful, popular restaurant, and was after magic (a la Mama P or Noelle Jasper). She blended right in. Plus, she always made sure the real Erin was never nearby while she was in disguise, in order to pull off her act. Even Mama P — an MB herself, no less — was fooled by the Erin disguise for quite some time.

Plus, rewriting the recipe with a different name, and claiming the recipe would catch the Night Bandit, with her partners unaware they were actually helping the Night Bandit, and nearly getting roped into her scheme. Not mention the Posthumous Villain Victory, and how she's more misguided than outright malicious.

And for those of you who thought the Night Bandit's insecurities are too strong of a prevention... don't worry. Besides, we've approved a number of insecure baddies here before, as long as it's not too severe and doesn't overshadow her craftiness — which it doesn't. Her craftiness still stands out very much, as my I remind you that Hannah and Darbie didn't suspect a thing until it was nearly too late, and played right into the mastermind's hands. Not just anyone can claim that. And she's a Well-Intentioned Extremist who had good reasons to assume she, Hannah, and Darbie were the best protectors considering all of the major enemies they fought were ex-protectors gone rogue— Kelly even brings up when Mama P froze Saffron Falls back in the Season 1 finale. She'd even redeemed herself and show great remorse for her actions, whereas an NSWIE would have been too self-assured to be willing to listen to reason.

Is She A Bitch?

Not on the level on some of the show's other approved M Bs but she can still technically count as one. The Night Bandit's committed a couple of immoral actions in her efforts for her plan to be the permanent protector. Such as growing the magic plants across town, knowing full well that people would unwittingly spell themselves, and it would cause a lot of trouble; impersonating Erin Chua, despite the latter not having done anything to her; causing an earthquake in Saffron Falls (the first in over 100 years) just to try attracting some morbium to her (nobody was injured, but still); and using a mysterious drink to wipe any magic-related memories of people who discover her true plan, or whom she no longer has any use for. Not to mention the "Groundhog Day" Loop which lasted hundreds of loops, for three weeks.

Rusty's write up:

  • Rusty is Danny's equally suave right-hand man and best friend, who often helps Danny plan things out. Joining Danny's heist of Terry Benedict's casino, Rusty helps convince Ruben to be their benefactor and recruits Basher by saving him from being arrested by pretending to be an FBI Agent and blowing up a Police Car as a distraction. Rusty later loops Benedict within an elaborate ruse about holding his money in hostage—yet intending on having it all stolen. Starting a romance with detective Isabel Lahiri, Rusty eventually leaves her when she finds evidence linking him to the crime and starts a chain of hotels, before joining forces with Danny again once Benedict comes for his money. Using his quick thinking to fix a problem in a heist by using explosives to lift a house in the air, Rusty uses the bet with the Night Fox to reunite with Isabel Lahiri by introducing her to her father. Later, helping take down Willie Bank for what he did to Ruben, Rusty convinces a concierge into making the V.U.P's stay miserable; puts a camera in Bank's office; pretends to be a security guard; and later rigs a machine to give the V.U.P 11 million dollars.

I will work on the page tomorrow. Any description ideas?

Eh, Alrighty might as well:

  • The Walking Dead: Typhoon: Ying Hengyen is the former General of the Chinese Army and one of the top soldiers for The Beacon of Life, but as opposed to the evil and self centered runners, Hengyen genuinely cares for his country and his people. A competent Windmaster who expertly kills Jiāngshī while keeping his men alive and shows to be completely willing to lay his life down for the cause, Hengyen knows that the Typhoon Horde will decimate the community and that the only option would be to run. When that plan is rejected by Guo and Wangfa, Hengyen begrudgingly agrees to the drafting of innocent Vultures in order to ensure the communities safety, allowing the Vultures and deserters to leave without consequences when the horde breaks through. When Guo and Wangfa abandon the community, Hengyen makes a Rousing Speech to convince the rest of the citizens to continue fighting, being in the front lines while making orders to take out the Jiāngshī. While losing The Beacon of Light and most of his men, Hengyen figures out that to keep the country alive, they must take care of the enemies within their communities, and manages to track down and murder Guo, Wangfa and their supporters out of revenge.

And now, let’s talk about a candidate from the original show, in this in a one-shot episode, and I think there’s another I’ll talk about later.

Who is He? What Does He Do?

Guillermo, the main antagonist of the episode “Vatos” is the leader of the titular Vatos gang, a seemingly rough and intimidating band of gang members, who kidnap Glenn and hold him hostage in exchange for supplies. When Rick and Daryl comes in with T-Dog as a sniper, offering to trade their hostage Miguel for Glenn, Guillermo stands his ground and demands the guns back, threatening to have Glenn thrown off the roof to make T-Dog stand down, and tells the three to either come back with their weapons so everyone can walk away or to come “lock and loaded.” The trio comes back with weapons and a tense Mexican Standoff, Guillermo being fearless and he doesn’t stand down on his ultimatum.

However, it is revealed that in truth, Guillermo was a custodian for a nursing home and stayed and took care of the patients along with various of the family of the patients, when all the other staff a abandoned the place. Seeing it impossible to get the nursing home people out safely, Guillermo took position of leader, barricading the door and deciding to keep the place on guard 24/7, having his men go out to scavenge, all the while Guillermo and his men keep an appearance of vicious gang members to intimidate and scare off any raiders and hostile bandits, and kept Glenn with the elderly people without a scratch.

After it’s revealed, Guillermo drops his act and is actually very polite and charitable, being grateful the situation didn’t go south and understand Rick’s point of view as he explains his position, needing the weapons in order to keep the home safe. After agreeing to fifty percent of the supplies, Rick’s group and Guillermo part on good terms and wish each other luck and Rick and the others leave unharmed.

Is He Magnificent?

I’d actually say so. Guillermo Initially seems like a brute, before it’s revealed that it’s all an act in order to prevent any raiders and scare them off, which had worked before, and shows to be perceptive enough and intimidating enough to ward off Rick, Daryl and sniper T-Dog for a bit by threatening to shove Glenn off a roof to take control of the situation, and shows to be completely fearless when the situation escalates. And when he drops his act, Guillermo is in fact, very polite and charitable, and reaches a compromise with Rick and the group goes their separate ways.

Is He A Bastard?

While having a Hidden Heart of Gold and most of his intimidation an act, he nevertheless did endanger Glenn’s life after he was kidnapped and the others when the situation escalates to a Mexican Standoff, which could’ve ended on blood shed on all sides, which he was glad it didn’t. Overall, he is pretty brutal when he needs to be, but it’s all to protect his people and the elderly home patients.

Verdict?

Gonna go with a yes.

Sure to Guillermo. Not sure on Kelly though.

Question to my fellow One Piece fans. Should I go ahead and do an effort post on Shiryu of the Rain? I think he's currently an easy keep after his latest battle but I'm not sure if he should be a wait and see as the series moves into its final stages.

[up] I think you should wait until his story is over. IIRC, he used to kill prison inmates For the Evulz, so he might do something to disqualify himself.

My big issue with Shiryu is him being too much on the needlessly sadistic side. Granted, he hasn't shown that off lately, but his entire backstory is that he abused his authority to slaughter prisoners for fun, and when we do meet him, he does the same thing to his former fellow co-workers the instant he was released.

Dreadwing gets my [tup] vote on the grounds that he most certainly knew what he did (giving the Forge of Solus Prime to Optimus and the Autobots) is treason in Megatron's eyes and it wouldn't be long before Megatron puts the two to two together. He's a dead bot walking already, so his attack on Starscream is pretty much The Last Dance. He isn't going to die without at least attempting to take Starscream with him.

We put up Rob Lucci who slaughtered hundreds of defenseless prisoners of war that he was supposed to rescue just because he thought they were weak. Shiryu seems tame by comparison.

Sure to Guillermo.

I'd hold off on Shiryu. The odds he keeps that status after zoro inevitably turns him into flank steak is pretty slim

The difference is that Lucci didn't do it for shits and giggles. It was his own personal (albeit very warped) sense of justice, as well as taking away a tactical advantage from terrorists so that they couldn't make use of the hostages.
