That can be more a case of poor writing where the narrative refuses to acknowledge that an event horizon was crossed. Needless to say, that can be very jarring for an audience who does recognize the event horizon as such.

My question is if the maturity level is a way of gauging the ponies' ages, why is Spitfire (who actually at least looks at least 30 in several shots even showing signs of being older due to having more life experience and having some vague instances of bags under her eyes like Rainbow's parents, in the same age tier as Dash who's in her early to mid twenties)? I think that's more due to Newbie Dash screwing with the Canon, making Spitfire younger. Unless Young adult covers adult ponies until senior, or Parents?

I think Young Adult covers everything until Parents, so Spitfire could just be a childless young adult in her early 30s.

I think we're overthinking things a bit. The characters fit whatever roles the narrative needs them to fit to demonstrate the lesson, IMO.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.

Well, not entirely, those broad categories do generally apply. I just think Spitfire falls a bit outside of the norm.

From BrokenAesop. My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic:

  • "Sweet and Elite" tells us that you shouldn't hide your embarrassing social connections to gain social status. It does this by showing Rarity hiding her embarrassing social connections to gain social status. And the ally she gains is someone who will force other elites to back off when it's revealed Rarity's best friends are dorks. The episode also showers Rarity with rewards for lying about her friends, with no consequences of any kind.

Uh... almost all Aesops that are "Don't do X" show a character doing X. It's how they teach not to.

For every low there is a high.

^Yeah, "Sweet and Elite" is not particularly subtle about portraying Rarity as being wrong for doing that.

On the subject of Aesops, I had forgotten I was going to move AccidentalAesop. My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic to AlternateAesopInterpretation. My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic, but, uh, now I have not forgotten! I would like feedback on a few entries, since I feel that a lot of it seems to just be points that the episodes were trying to get at on purpose:

    Examples

Season 1:

  • "Boast Busters": You shouldn't going around picking fights or looking for trouble. It's not a matter of if that kind of attitude will come back to bite you, but when it will. Isn't this just the intended Aesop?
  • "Green Isn't Your Color":
    • If you're feeling jealous about another friend's success or good fortune, talk about it. Even if your friend can't compromise and give you those good fortunes (like Fluttershy did), talking may lessen the jealous feelings you have. Isn't this just the intended Aesop?
    • Some secrets aren't worth keeping if being silent about them hurts those around you. Again, isn't this also part of the intended lesson?
  • "The Best Night Ever":
    • "Just give him a chance (Rarity), his princely side is sure to come out". Maybe not. If someone isn't treating you right, don't waste your time with them. You deserve better than someone who's treating you like garbage. I'm pretty sure this was the intentional message — the episode page lists this under An Aesop, too.
    • For Fluttershy, just because you're good with animals doesn't mean every animal you come across will take a liking to you. I'm not completely certain how much this would count as a moral lesson.

Season 2

  • "The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000": Automatically pressed drinks are just as good as hand-made, judging by Granny Smith's reaction upon tasting the Flim and Flam's cider. The brothers' stuff is definitely presented as being very high quality before they fudge with the quality control, but I'm not completely certain how to categorize this.

Season 4

  • "Princess Twilight Sparkle" Just because you're in a position of authority doesn't mean your safety should be all that matter. You might be vital to stopping a problem. Isn't this just intended?
  • "Flight to the Finish": Some ponies (and people) are born differently from us, and can't do what we take for granted. That doesn't mean that they can't still excel and be awesome. Intentional or not, the episode has many disability parallels. Also intentional, I think; the An Aesop entry on the episode page is "Be Yourself and don't focus on what others can do; even if you can't do them yourself, you have your own strengths."
  • "For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils": One can become so emotionally invested in their own work that they might fail to see its flaws and shortcomings. Wasn't the issue that Sweetie had sabotaged Rarity's work when Rarity didn't have the chance to look at it? I don't think this applies.
  • "Inspiration Manifestation":
    • Constant praise actually can stifle your artistic integrity and it's alright to take some criticism now and then. Just roll with the punches and adjust when you need to. This was definitely intended.

[up][up]It would be BA if Fancy wouldn't have given Rarity a chance if she hadn't lied, just Sweet and Sour Grapes otherwise.

[up]Cut anything that's stating a variant of the intended Aesop or why it is seen as more valid than the intended Aesop.

From FanonDiscontinuity. My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic:

  • Some fans would like to pretend that "Marks for Effort" never happened due to Twilight's Jerkass Ball towards the Cutie Mark Crusaders.

I believe this is misuse as for those those who don't FD all of S8 (which would make this redundant) it introduced something too fundamental, the villain, to pretend the whole episode didn't happen over a disliked aspect. (Other episodes FD'd over Jerkass Ball behavior were such because they could be cut without effecting the bigger story.) If fans mentally replaced it with the liked/key parts introduced under different circumstances, it would be FD but that does't sound like the case here. Cleanup deemed "Newbie Dash" not an example for this reason.

Relating, from YMMV.My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic S 2 E 19 Putting Your Hoof Down:

  • Fanon Discontinuity: Most fans prefer to forget about Fluttershy going berserk and insulting Rarity and Pinkie Pie's lives.

Given this moment and their remote is what leads to Fluttershy's character development that is well received, such no fanworks I've seen replace it with something else, is this not an example. Or was it minor/inconsequential in her development such it can be ignored without changing anything?

From MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic.Tropes T To Z:

  • Take That!: One possible interpretation of a Hub commercial which edited together animation from "Too Many Pinkie Pies" to show Fluttershy and Rarity reacting negatively to the Pinkie Pie duplicate who makes the face of a Generation 3 My Little Pony.
    • A slightly subtler Take-that in the same episode could be the personalities of the Pinkie clones in general. All of them have had virtually all personality traits stripped away, leaving the most obvious one (Pinkie's desire for fun) which is exaggerated and inflated to the point where it becomes obnoxious and annoying. Sounds like the classic symptoms of Flanderization.
    • As noted on the recap page, "Suited for Success" is a theoretical 'Take That' to Hasbro when they interfere with the creative process of the writing and animation teams. Particularly blatant in the "Art Of The Dress (Reprise)" lyrics:
All we ever want is indecision
All we really like is what we know
      Gotta balance style with adherence
Making sure we make a good appearance
Even if you simply have to fudge it
Make sure that it stays within our budget
    • The entire episode "Fame and Misfortune" can be seen as Take That! towards negative commentators in the fandom. Probably the most direct instance of this trope in the episode is when a pony exclaims "Twilight was better before she got wings."

Bad indentation aside, this is filled with speculative language ("one possible interpretation", "could be", "a theoretical 'Take That'", "can be seen"). It also strikes me as a little too complainy.

[up]Removed them. Take That! is about bashing other works not oneself or audiences, so if they can fit others those inclined can add them there.

Ron the Death Eater was redefined to now only apply to fandom trends on the canon, not the fanworks doing it which is Adaptational tropes. The MLP RTDE page predates that and previously decided specific fics so it needs to be overhauled. Fics that contributed to the RTDE portrayals (like Cupcakes) or added to canon trends as examples are valid to keep. Here's Sandbox.Ron The Death Eater My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic in case anyone wants to help.

[up] Almost all the Twilight Sparkle examples can be cut, since they're about specific fics. That leaves these two examples about actual episodes, and aside from indentation problems should the (bolded) paragraphs about Accusation Fics be removed?

Ferot_Dreadnaught Since: Mar, 2015

[up]Will cut them. Am I right in assuming there's not a wider trend of vilifying her (compared to others) outside of specific instances?

Depending on how widespread it has to be there might be some other cuts.

[up] I don't really explore the "character hate fic" side of the fandom, so I can't really speak as to how much of a trend this is or not.

From MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic.Tropes Q To S:

  • Season Fluidity: While many episodes are standalone stories, continuity at a season and series level has become more important as the series goes on. Discord's reformation and the reappearance of the Crystal Empire, for instance, have now appeared as plot points in future episodes. Probably the biggest example, though, is Twilight's transformation into an alicorn and subsequent coronation, which looks set to inform major plot developments in Season 4.

Implying Season 4 is in the future makes this embarrassingly out of date. Might be worth covering later seasons as well.

When it comes to fan fics demonizing the M6 can we keep at least the Abridged series as they aren't fanfics and are outright fan animations (like Pony.mov, and The Mentally Advanced Series) or is it no fan works period? Because if it's the latter I'll move most of the Rainbow Dash folder to Adaptational Villainy.

The My Little Pony page is quite a mess, with any pre-FIM refrence to ponies in media being labeled as "hindsight" solely cause of FIM, some myopia, and shoehorns too

This thread seems to have surpassed 1000 posts. I consider 1000 posts to be the threshold for when a Short Term project thread should be moved to Long Term. Should this thread be moved to Long Term?

I consider 1000 posts to be the threshold for when a Short Term project thread should be moved to Long Term.

That's not a metric we use. This show is no longer ongoing, and could conceivably have 'clean' pages in the near future.

This technically isn't the main show, but Ask a Pony and its subpages has a ton of dead links to deleted, hacked, or mature blogs. Idk what to do with them since it is unlikely that the content was preserved anywhere, but they could still be valid trope usage, but cannot be proven
