Also for Jeff/Annie how is this for a simple tweek:

  • Jeff and Annie from Community evoked this reaction despite Jeff/Britta originally being meant to endgame. The various Season 1 DVD commentaries indicate that the pairing was a natural evolution of the characters and actors' chemistry and also a reaction to the growing popularity of the pairing among the shippers. In the 2011 E!Online poll they were named the 2011 TV's Top Couple narrowly beating out the more well known TV pair of House and Cuddy from the Fox series "House".

Also what should I do with the others, keep, cut or replace with a Troy/Abed entry.

Can I get opinions on these here and here?

Solo/Ilya for the show? I think the latter's pairing with Gaby in the movie probably overshadows it there though.

Bull, please bring the Stranger Things examples from the TV section here too. Thank you.

[up] Nope they are the most popular one for the film as well.

Here you go.

  • Stranger Things:
    • Hopper and Joyce is treated as the One True Pairing, both in and out of universe as they clearly have some Unresolved Sexual Tension going back to their high school days and Hopper and Joyce still get together to smoke in the first two seasons. There's also the fact Hopper is the Papa Wolf and Joyce the Mama Bear for the main kids and generally are much more competent at partnering than every other adult, and many characters even comment on their chemistry, if not mistake them for a couple. Bob, Joyce's boyfriend in Season 2, was Doomed by Canon for getting in the way of the pairing. In Season 3, they were about to go on a date, only for it to get dashed by Hopper performing a Heroic Sacrifice to lock the gate, but the Season 4 trailer confirms that he survived.
    • Zigzagged with Nancy, Steve and Jonathan. Throughout the first season, fans were inclined to prefer Nancy with Jonathan rather than her jerky boyfriend Steve and were upset that Nancy stayed with Steve in the season finale. Then in the second season, Nancy's relationship with Steve disintegrates and she finally hooks up with Jonathan. Steve, having gotten some Character Development and taking more than a few levels in kindness, treats it as I Want My Beloved To Happy, which ironically caused a group of fans to believe Nancy should've given Steve a second chance and Steve befriending and helping the kids well helped matters.
    • A number of fans find Mike and his Puppy Love obsession with Eleven more than a little annoying and actually wish Eleven could be paired with one of the other kids like Lucas (who gives her the Bridal Carry) or Max since it's shown they were getting close in Season 3. Eleven also has moments with Eight/Kali, her Foil and Evil Counterpart.
    • There are those in support of Madwheeler (Mike/Max) ending up together because of their fighting about El strongly coming off as Belligerent Sexual Tension.
    • Steve/Robin supporters, even with the reveal that the latter is gay, hope that it will then be revealed that she is actually bisexual so they can still be together after all.

[up]Those match the ones on the YMMV too? Probably asked and answered already though.

  • How to Rock: Zevie (Zander Robbins/Stevie Baskara) is intensely loved by the fanbase specifically because of the close dynamic between the two characters and the chemistry between Max Schneider and Lulu Antariksa. The ship is widely well-received above the two Zander ships the show seemed to be implying instead: either him and Kacey Simon (Zacey) or him and Molly Garfunkel (Zolly).
  • Stranger Things:
    • Harrigrove (Steve Harrington and Billy Hargrove) is shipped far more in popularity due to both the Foe Yay and Ho Yay type vibe displayed between the two in the show as well as the chemistry between Joe Keery and Dacre Montgomery. Fans express more interest in the two of them than they do Steve with Nancy Wheeler or Robin Buckley and Billy with Heather Holloway or Karen Wheeler.
    • Robin and Heather (Maya Hawke and Francesca Reale), despite neither ever meeting in the show and the latter dying, ended up pretty popular with the fanbase after Season 3, specifically with the reveal of Robin being gay. The pair noticeably exceeds the popularity of both Robin's canon ship with Steve and Heather's with Billy as well.

Also I found this on Wing Commander: The Kilrathi Saga;

  • Fan-Preferred Couple: Averted in that fans generally preferred Rachel to Flint in Wing Commander 3 (perhaps due to the fact loading their own missiles was tedious). The novelizations had Blair marry Rachel after the events of Wing Commander 3 but their relationship didn't last.

This entry is confusing. Firstly you can't advert this. Secondly can you flirt with both?

From YMMV.Grimm:

  • Fan-Preferred Couple:
    • While Nick is all but engaged to his live-in girlfriend Juliette and finds a second love in Adalind (who has his son), the fandom loves to pair him off with Monroe instead.
    • Adalind/Meisner, after the whole baby Diana arc, despite Adalind being in love with Nick and having a son with him.

The first one counts but the second one I am unsure about it lists one blog on tumblr while Nick/Adalind is far more popular everywhere else including tumblr. So I think it should be cut. Thoughts?

Also from Live-Action TV:

  • Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: A vocal part of the fandom pairs Zelda Spellman and Lilith/Madam Satan together over their canon interests of Father Blackwood and the Dark Lord respectively. That is despite how little they have actually interacted in the two seasons. This is especially true with their other love interests Adam for Lilith and Mambo Marie for Zelda. On Archive of Our Own they have the most fanfiction of any pairing, even topping any with the actual lead, Sabrina by a good margin.

This counts but I feel like it could us a bit of a rewrite. Is that just me?

Would Chloe/Clark from Smallville count as a Fan-Preferred Couple? For some context, given that the show was a Superman prequel, it was a Foregone Conclusion that he would end up with Lois, who wouldn't be introduced until Season Four. Before then, Lana Lang was Clark's main Love Interest. However, in general the fandom preferred Clark with Chloe over him with Lana. In fact there was a group of fans who theorized that Chloe would become Lois at one point. This theory continued even after Lois was officially introduced.

In terms of actual stuff (fanfic, fan discussion, fan art, and fanvids) Clark/Lex and Clark/Lois is far more popular now a days.

I guess in a historical sense maybe but it certainly isn't most popular anymore. Clark is far more shipped with Lex and Lois from the show now a days. And Chloe/Oliver is also more popular.

I guess it could be like Harry/Hermione where it was more popular but not anymore. The write up write up would just have to reflect that.

I could easily do a write up if you guys want as it is at least more popular than Clark/Lana and is an interesting historical example.

How's this for a write-up:

  • Smallville: Before the introduction of Lois, Lana was set up as Clark's main Love Interest. However, that ship was eclipsed in popularity within the fandom by the Clark/Chloe ship. There was even a group of fans who theorized that she would become Lois. After Lois was introduced, these fans believed that Chloe would take Lois's identity at one point.

I like it. Though maybe mention how now a days you are more likely to find a fan ship Chlois Clex, or Chloe/Oliver. That is just a suggestion. Otherwise feel free to add it to the Smallville tree on Live-Action TV.

Also these entries from Private Practice desperately need expanding:

  • Fan-Preferred Couple: Pete and Violet, Cooper and Violet in season 1, later Cooper and Charlotte.
    • Addison and Sam. ADDISON AND SAM, until recently when he started getting indecisive.
    • Also, Naomi and Gabriel.
    • Addison and Jake, on the grounds he actually likes kids and her.
    • Sheldon and Amelia have a pretty passionate fan base, although Ryan and James don't often get the Die for Our Ship treatment ( although that may be because Ryan did).

I am not super familiar with this show like I am its parent one and looking at fan discussion, fanfiction, fanart, and so on doesn't help as at least in the case of Addison almost all of it will be connected to or based on her time on Grey's Anatomy.

Anyone familiar with this show?

I was wondering should we just remove zero context ones that don't mention a creator preferred pairing. I have been hiding them and have noticed that leaves a lot of %s on the page.

Eh, yeah, I say just delete them (with an edit reason). If it's actually an example, someone will probably come back around and make a new example with context later.

Alright, got some examples from Cookie Run and Cookie Run: Kingdom:

YMMV.Cookie Run:

  • Fan-Preferred Couple: Yes, it's very common for fans to ship cookies. They are fictional characters in a video game, what did you expect?
    • In a father/son type of way, fans portray Ananas Dragon and Mango Cookie in this fashion after the adorable "Bake My Day" short starring them.
    • Aloe and Cyborg Cookie became a very popular ship after the story of Cyborg’s debut event, Cyborg Menace, showed just how far Aloe was willing to go to save Cyborg’s life even though she knew they’d likely disapprove.
    • For Cookie Run Kingdom, fans love shipping Madeleine and Espresso Cookie together due to their opposing personalities, color schemes, and roles.
    • After Lilac Cookie's new wardrobe was unveiled for Season 6, many fans decided to ship him with Yogurt Cream Cookie due to the interactions of being a merchant and bodyguard and joked that Yogurt Cream specifically dressed Lilac up in his new outfit. It helps that the both of them have "Trust" in their relationship charts. Moreover, lilacs are symbolic of love and the first sentence of Lilac's description represent how lilac petals were an ingredient in a love potion. What cements this is that Lilac was originally hired to assassinate Yogurt Cream but later learned to really care for him.
    • Based on the comments from a few Carrot and Beet Cookie posts on the Cookie Run Kingdom Twitter and Instagram account, "BeetCarrot" has proven to be another popular ship due to Beet Cookie loving carrots and some fans theorizing that she secretly loves Carrot Cookie.
    • The second that he debuted, Eggnog Cookie was immediately paired with the other handsome rugged Almond Cookie.

YMMV.Cookie Run Kingdom:

  • Fan-Preferred Couple:
    • The amount of Madeleine/Espresso fanworks on Twitter is overwhelming. And that is before the game’s official release, which shows how much their dynamic in promotional videos is enjoyed. It isn’t helped by the fact that they’re both the resident Ensemble Dark Horse and the game dedicates a whole quest featuring their interactions together. To say that this is the most popular ship in the entire franchise would not be an overstatement. Cookie Run Kingdom's socials gave a nod to the ship when they posted a Valentine's Day message with the two of them together on a pink background.
    • Chili/Rye also gains quite the attention thanks to their rivalry, making this the most popular ship with Chili featured so far.
    • Almond and Latte are another popular ship due to their interactions in the "Beacons of Unity" storyline (where they bicker Like an Old Married Couple and babysit Cream Puff together) and goes hand in hand with how Almond is Walnut's father.
    • Pastry/Red Velvet is very well-liked and pretty much shadowing other potential ships featuring these two. Apparently, intense rivalry between a serious, devoted Church Militant and the Anti-Villain Drill Sergeant Nasty of the Darkness who are Foil of each other makes awesome Foe Yay.
    • Cotton and Sherbet Cookie became this after the end of The Frost Witch and the Lantern in the Snow due to their friendship and promise to be together.

I don't think any of these fit, as these characters either had no ship tease with other characters or were teased with each other (like Almond/Latte). You might be able to make a case for Eggnog/Almond, but considering Eggnog was revealed literally two days ago I think that needs time to settle (I also haven't seen any ship art of them yet, moreso just jokes about Eggnog out-DILFing Almond).

By the way here is my Man From Uncle rewrite.

  • The Man from U.N.C.L.E.: Despite Napoleon Solo being an infamous Chick Magnet, most fans ship him with Russian partner Illya Kuryakin instead of any Girl of the Week. In fact, the ship predates the "grandfather" of shipping, Kirk/Spock, by quite a bit and is arguably just as influential on the way fans ship things as it. This continued into the 2015 film, where more people found themselves shipping Napoleon/Illya over the canon Illya/Gabby.

From Live-Action TV:

  • Jim Gordon and Leslie Thompkins in Gotham. As well Oswald Cobblepot and Edward Nygma.

The first is canon and not as popular as Jim/Oswald. The second is popular enough but I don't remember if they have any canon competition. Thoughts?
