I don't mind cutlisting it. We don't maintain it anymore and we keep track of cleanup within the threads themselves anyways. Replacing it with Wick Check Project sounds like a good idea as well.

Maybe change it to "related projects" instead of ongoing cleanup projects.

Been focused on dewicking Panty Shot; it's down to 1550 now from 2003 two days ago. Definitely an easier one to work on. Done a lot more pothole removing than swapping to new tropes but I've switched in Male Gaze a couple times.

I was thinking of taking Characterization Tags to TRS to get its namespace changed, but I'm not sure if a wick check is needed for this kind of action. What's throwing me off is that the page is often potholed whenever character tags are used, but the actual page is written in the style of an Administrivia or even Useful Notes page.

Not an Useful Note. It's not a real life thing that is used in stories, but a concept that is used in fan discussions. Audience Reaction, perhaps, or fanspeak term.

I'd say more fanspeak term than Audience Reaction because it can be used to just describe stuff (like a fanwork creator describing their own twist on a character).

Fanspeak seems correct to us.

Threw another queue slot up for Courtroom Antic. I usually only like to have one slot at a time, but at this rate it doesn't really make a difference, and my other slot is at #6 so it'll be a thread relatively soon.

While the discussion about how to categorize the page is useful, I wanted to know if a wick check is required for repair shop actions involving namespace moves.

Sometimes. In this case I'd say you should probably do one to see if it's actually being used for fanspeak.

Yeah, a wick check would be ideal, particularly to see if inline wicks outnumber bulleted examples, similarly to how I found out Murphy's Law was being used before I turned it into a Definition-Only Page (it was originally a disambiguation page, but somehow had over a couple hundred wicks).

And I agree that it would be Fan Speak and not a Useful Note.

Biggest changes for TRS Thread wick counts in the past three days: -50 wicks for Bastard Boyfriend, -82 wicks for Baleful Polymorph, -122 wicks for Loads And Loads Of Characters, -292 wicks for Absentee Actor, and -553 wicks for Panty Shot.

Since no wick actions have to be made I'm fine with Web Games getting finished outside of TRS.

This might not be the right forum (admittedly haven't poked around enough yet to find other ones) but what's up with Hermit Guru having a character page? Did someone use it as their own sandbox?

I processed the cut request. If a page in Main/ has a type of subpage that pages in Main/ aren't allowed to have, it can simply be cut without going through TRS.

OK I have an insane idea that will probably be instantly shot down that was being discussed in the Observations about the wiki thread in YF. I'm pitching it here to see if I'm not completely insane.

So we know that Nightmare Fuel has been a problem trope basically forever, right? One that has gotten us negative attention offsite for the amount of shoehorning in it? Well, over in the aforementioned thread, Willbyr mentioned that they wouldn't feel bad about making it Def-Only. That isn't what I was going to pitch.

I'm instead thinking about wick checking NF and making an argument that we need an EP thread similar to Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard. It would help ensure that examples are legitimate and fitting, it would probably have a large amount of activity due to how popular NF is, and it would save us from the nuclear troper meltdown that would happen if we purged examples.

Now, I know that this isn't a very good idea. I also know that NF may be too YMMV and based on Audience Reaction to make an EP thread for. However, I'm pitching it here anyway because I fear that NF is legitimately hurting our reputation and I just wanted to gauge what others thought of my proposal. What does everyone think?

I think this proposal should be discussed in the NightmareFuel cleanup thread first but since we are here...I don't think an EP thread would be worth the effort. I don't know how we would monitor new NF pages and I don't think I'd suggest locking every NF page we have for vetting like the CM and MB pages are (I know that's not what's being suggested but I don't see how else they would be vetted).

There's also the fact that there was a concerted effort to make CM and MB truly objective, IIRC. The EP format is basically "these should be objective but they can't be, so this is as objective as we can get". The subjectivity of Nightmare Fuel is kind of baked into the premise in a way it's not for those.

Well, like I said, I knew it was a dumb idea, I just wanted to see what everyone thought. I still wonder if there's some way to save Nightmare Fuel but I don't know.

The cleanup thread is already making decent progress, we just need to stick with it and keep enforcing standards.

The problem, I think, with an EP thing though is that CM and MB are both far more objective than NF. I'm not even sure how you could EP something as subjective as an audience reaction. All we can do is to keep up the cleanup and teach people to write good examples.

This got brought up a while ago but I never got a chance to mention it here.

Over in the TLP Crash Rescue thread Berrenta raised concerns that The Man's wick cleanup was done improperly and Blaming "The Man" has resultant misuse issues. The idea of resurrecting The Man's thread was brought up as the on-page examples were never cleaned (and off-page wicks may need additional cleaning). Is it worth it or no?
