General Page Quote Discussion:

Hahaha, perfect. Move the Grandpa quote to the Quotes page is my suggestion.

So, I reported this issue to moderators before I knew this forum existed, but since it has been brought to my attention:

I recently launched Shared Fate Ultimatum, and discovered that shortly after launch, someone changed the page quote.

I believe the original quote was more concise and to the point of the trope, while I believe that the new quote was selected based more on a preference for the source.

I believe that the original quote should be restored but I don't want to start an Edit War so I believe that having a proper discussion about it in the forum will be a better and more permanent resolution.

In favor of the original quote,they didn't even use an edit reason

The quote on Doppelgänger Replacement Love Interest is not only really long, it doesn't really describe the trope at all. Cut?

I agree. Looking at the page, I found this from the examples that could maybe replace it? The example does not specify the episode, unfortunately. Maybe someone here is more familiar with the series and knows it off the top of their head? E: Thanks Mrph for the episode!

Which is good... i'm familiar with the episode it comes from, so I know the scene is an example, but the quote by itself doesn't quite get that across so someone not familiar with the source might question it a bit. I was thinking being more obvious with the quote with one of these two suggestions:

From Quotes.The Nineties, this quote is mostly complaining about modern music:

Not too big on the quote for The Beatles, it's funny and it fits with for the band's sometimes nonsensical vibe, but I don't think it really works as a good quote to summarize them. Especially with the rest of the context being lost.

I feel this might be better.

Maybe cut it down to this.

For Ain't Slayed Nobody, it occured to me that the disclaimer "Ain't Slayed Nobody is a produced actual-play podcast intended for adults, and may contain material that some people find disturbing. Please see the episode notes for content warnings, and listen with care." would work better for a new page quote, while the "Push the roll..." quote would work better as a caption under the image than at the top of the page.

I like the second one, but without the pothole. Quotes shouldn't have potholes in them.

x4 I'm partial to the Freefall quote since I think it draws the most attention to the revealing part. As for the 90s quote, eh, I don't feel too strongly about it. It's hard to sum up the culture of an entire decade in one short quote. Probably best to just axe it.

Alright, swapped that in and cut the quote on Quotes.The Nineties

I know I am a broken record at this point but I want to kindly ask what we should do with Japanese quotes that are not even translated. This cant be kosher, people shouldnt google translate to get a page quote.

Examples? Might be easier to judge with specifics.

There's a couple non-English quotes that have the translation in a labelnote (Carmen, The Chorus), which I think is an acceptable compromise. (Particularly because 1) in at least one of those cases, the quote is untranslated within the work itself 2) they're lyrics, and directly translating messes with the meter and rhyme.)

If part of the quote is in English and part not, then putting a note in parentheses after the non-English part might also work.
