As far as I can tell, Mystery Magnet’s quote is three different quotes from one source mushed together. How does this look for a cut-down version?

"Most people can go their whole lives without getting involved with a murder. Monk is lucky if he can go outside and get his morning paper off his stoop without tripping over a dead body.

I've considered changing the quote on Series. At Home With Amy Sedaris to something from the first episode, but first I'd like to know if anyone finds it too long:

"When it comes to hospitality, I've settled on a certain way of doing things. It might not be the most proper way, or the most traditional, or even the most legal, but it works for me, and now it can work for you."

I like the Monk quote. Current Amy Sedaris quote is fine but an actual quote like you suggested, not just a synopsis, probably does work better.

Anyway I think I've said this before but the Little Bit Beastly page quote has little to do with the trope without context.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.

Tempted to pull this, from Über:

"It doesn't matter if Spider-Man's fighting Galactus — Spider-Man will find a way to beat Galactus. Über isn't that story. Über is the story that every single time, Galactus will kill Spider-Man."

It's a good description of the tone of the work, but that was Gillen in an interview, pitching the book to comic fans.

My understanding is that we don't really want page quotes that define the work by comparing it to an unrelated franchise. And even if Spider-Man is culturally ubiquitous right now, I'm not convinced that Galactus is?

Any views?

Regarding the pulled Little Bit Beastly quote, how about this as a replacement?

"In case you're not in the know, Faunus are a species on Remnant that appear to be human in just about every way... every way but one. Each Faunus has a single animalistic trait, some more apparent than others. Ram horns, tiger claws, cat ears... I swear on my Huntsman's licence, I once saw a guy regrow his severed lizard tail."

The current quote for MagnificentBastard. The Neverkind Saga is this:

Nephera Vallikan: I told you I had the matter in hand, my dears.
Janara: A dangerous game, Nephy...
Nephera: The best kind, Janny.

Here's a possible replacement?

"You know, not long ago, I bedded two of my House's soldiers. They were traitors, spying for House Baal. I killed them when they least expected it, had their heads delivered to Azazel. It was not the first time I killed in the defense and service of my House. I doubt it will be the last. I tell you that so you understand me well, Lucifer: I live unashamed in who and what I am. I take pleasure where I wish and where I desire. I plot, I plan, and I love every moment of it. But I am nobody's fool, and nobody's pawn, least of all yours. I am unafraid to admit I respect you, but I will not say that I yet trust you unreservedly yet."

Revisiting this one - should a page quote that relies on comparisons to other works be cut?

Tabs Since: Jan, 2001

[up] Mm, I think that if you don't know what Galactus and Spider-Man do, you won't understand what the story is about.

Properly Paranoid doesn't emphasize the "properly" part enough, I think — can we do something with omniscient narration or something that shows the paranoia is legit?

Hastur was paranoid, which was simply a sensible and well-adjusted reaction to living in Hell, where they really were all out to get you.

Roman's always been paranoid. It's probably why he's lasted this long.

The only entry on Quotes. The Shadow Knows is the Trope Namer, which doesn't actually have anything to do with the trope (about a shadow not matching the caster's body). Cut?

[up]It’s not formatted right, either. Cut it.

I cut down the quote on Mystery Magnet.

I’ve never liked how the quote on Mistaken for Gay needs a footnote to explain how it fits the trope. These were the most page-quote-worthy things I could find on the on-page examples and Quotes.Mistaken For Gay. I’m not 100% sold on either of these as replacements but they’re at least better than the current.

"I mean, everybody thinks I'm this big dyke because... 'cause I wear baggy pants, I play softball, and... and I'm not as pretty as other girls, but that doesn't make me gay. I mean, I like guys. I can't help it."

Liz: Face facts, Arthur — a man your age, living with his mother, doesn't go out with women, does all the cooking — what else is one to think?
Arthur: Perhaps one could think that here is a man who, for a change, puts his mother's welfare ahead of trying to prove his own manhood by chasing after everything in a skirt that moves!
Liz: No, that's far too complicated. They'll just think you're gay.
Mother & Son, "The Boyfriend"

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Hour of Power doesn’t have a page quote yet. Here’s an idea I have:

"Because of Earth's polluted atmosphere, Ultraman can only retain his gigantic form for three minutes. Time is running out."
The narrator of Ultraman: Towards the Future - Every single episode.

If all else fails, use fire.

Expansion Pack World currently doesn't have a quote, and I'd like to use this one from World of Warcraft. It's a cute bit of Lampshade Hanging.

"My wish is to never run out of newly-discovered continents to explore."
— Inscription on Li Li's Coin, World of Warcraft

My only problem is that it's the same source as the image. Is that fine?

The current quote on WesternAnimation.WALLE spends too much time talking about other Pixar movies, but I can't think of a good replacement.

EDIT: The second verse of "Down to Earth"?

"Did you think you'd escaped from routine
By changing the script and the scene?
Despite all you made of it
You're always afraid of the change
You've got a lot on your chest
Well, you can come as my guest
So come on down
Come on down
"

That's good, but I want to offer a couple of other suggestions too.

"I don’t want to survive! I want to live!"

Or maybe the first part of Hello Dolly's Put on your Sunday Clothes, since it is the movie's Real Song Theme Tune
