The Real Life section of Nerves of Steel has a handful of ZCEs. I fixed the skydiving one (I think), but the other examples are either people I don't know enough about to expand on (and don't currently have the time to research), and professional golf.

Talking Heads has a bunch of ZCEs, my favorite being this one:

Potholing the work name to an abbreviation and using sinkholes at the end. There were also numerous violations of Examples Are Not General. Everything that I was certain was problematic is hidden, but these two need consensus as to whether they should stay:

  • Peep Show does an original take on the cliche thanks to being filmed with a POV camera.
  • When Channel Five started as the UK's fifth terrestrial channel, the idea of terrestrial TV had already been rendered obselescent by the advent of satellite and cable. A fifth free-to-view TV station was no longer as exciting as it might have been if there were only five available channels. Five therefore set about attracting viewers by sensationalism, promising a lot of explicit content. Viewers read this as "free porn". many viewers were not amused when the "porn" turned out to be home-made and imported documentaries about the porn business and its stars. There might be a ten or fifteen second establishing scene demonstrating that porn was in fact happening and showing who and what was involved - and then the visual content would switch to "talking heads" who would talk, at length, about the sociological, economic, moral, health, gender-political, feminist, or other, aspect of the business. Viewers got disillusioned quickly.

I went through VideoGame.Dragon Quest XI since I've been playing a lot of Dragon Quest lately, but Characters.Dragon Quest XI still needs work. I also scrubbed Word Cruft and bad indentation. (I could have overlooked stuff, since I'm sick for the umpteenth time this year and it's almost 4 AM.)

Characters.Americas Next Top Model

All the subpages are awful and littered with ZCE.

I really, really don't like reality shows and this one takes the cake... I tried doing the first sub-page, but I'm almost disgusted with troping real-life, misusing tropes and the number of ZCE. (There was some effort with the clean-up, but the "only trope title" examples were commented out.)

Would anyone help to comment-out these pages? As far as I can tell, they're all in poor state. (If it were up to me, I would send them to cutlist, but I think character sheets are allowed for reality shows, so it's really not my call.)

I see some examples in Fantasy Helmet Enforcement’s Western Animation tab that don’t have context in them.

Also guys have you checked the Western Animation tab for The Napoleon? Dear god, there’s a whole bunch of examples there with no context.

[up][up] It doesn't help that the trope is a bit vague. There's nothing odd about people using helmets - you're supposed to use helmets to ride bikes - so the trope is about examples were the plot enforces it or it's outlandish.

Apparently, Blatant Lies, when played straight, needs the lie to be believed by other characters?

So... Since there has to be a note on whether the lie was believed, then all these examples from BlatantLies.Anime And Manga, are all Zero-Context Examples?

  • From Angel Beats!. After Otonashi has to grab Yurippe inappropriately to climb up human ladder-style and Hinata attempts the same thing:
    Hinata: AAAAAHHHHH YYYYYOOOOUUUUUU BIIIIIIIT-
    [scene change]
    Otonashi: Where's Hinata?
Yurippe: He was a noble sacrifice.
  • Attack on Titan: When Mikasa gets asked exactly what happened when Eren, having not yet mastered his Titan form, unknowingly tried to attack her by her friends, she claims Eren was swatting a fly. In a completely straight face as usual.
  • About half of the dialog in Beelzebub is lies one way or another. Especially anytime Oga is describing himself or any other time it could get a laugh. Including the very first line of the series.
Oga: Long, long ago, in a certain place, there was a very, very handsome, cool, respected, entirely angelic young man.
  • The Sisters in A Certain Magical Index narrate themselves, so any lies end up like this.
Mikoto: Did you just eat my ice cream?
Misaka 9982: Of course not, Misaka says while enjoying the lingering taste of chocolate mint.
  • Delicious in Dungeon has Marcille telling the others that she is "the picture of good health" after being exposed to the scream of a mandrake. Both her eyes are pointed in opposite directions.
  • The Dirty Pair are more properly addressed as the "Lovely Angels" because that more accurately describes them, and it's never their fault when something bad happens on one of their missions, even when a planet is destroyed, which tends to happen somewhere around a third of the time. At least, that's what they claim.
  • Durarara has Orihara Izaya saying "No way! I'm not the bad guy!"
    • Another fun instance of Izaya's blatant lies is during the Dufufufu!! OVA story, when he talks to the false Shizuo. He walks up to him, pretends not to know Shizuo at all, calls himself 'Tsukumoya Shinichi', asks if he can pay the false Shizuo to give him information, and spends pretty much the rest of his screen time spouting any random crap he can come up with.
  • In Elfen Lied, young Kouta lies to Lucy about the gender of his cousin in order to avoid making her jealous. BIG mistake.

Blatant Lies is also part of what I've called the "sinkhole trinity" (alongside Understatement and Sarcasm Mode), because of the sheer number of times it's been sinkholed.

This example on the this page was commented out as ZCE:

  • Tank-Tread Mecha: Kataphron Battle Servitors have tank treads instead of legs.

There's really not much else that can be elaborated on, from the lore or elsewhere. Is it ZCE or not?

As I said in my PM to you I believe that it does count. It is also not exactly that difficult to add more context:

  • Tank-Tread Mecha: In-keeping with the depictions of the majority of heavy combat servitors since 1st Edition, Kataphron Battle Servitors have had their legs replaced with large and robust track units. These tracks give the servitors a stable platform to fire their heavy weapons from, allowing them to lay down punishing fire as they advance on the enemy, something that the 8th Edition rules represent with the Heavy Battle Servitor ability that allows both Katahron Breachers and destroyers to ignore the usual penalties when firing Heavy type weaponry on the move.

I would have added more context myself rather than comment it out but I was a little short on time and, when it is a recent edit, I prefer to allow the original troper first crack at fixing it.

Koihime†Musou has many ZCEs and uses dashes instead of colons in the trope list, which is deprecated. Adorkable attracts a lot of examples lacking context, overuse, and gushing.

Re: Adorkable. 10 617 wicks.

Its misuse is one of my biggest pet peeves on this wiki. Everything tropers like is called Adorkable, even if it's just adorable at the very best.

Everyone they like is a cute dork in their eyes. A hot celebrity actress makes a nerdy joke? Adorkable! An unredeemable villain gets a book publishing deal and is happy about it? Adorkable! A no-nonsense male captain is cute with his no-nonsense husband? Adorkable! This character I like does a random geeky thing? Adorkable!

I have given up. This is a hopeless battle.

[up]Little off topic but I as you brought it up, I am guessing this Warhammer 40,000 example about the game's version of Ogres is misuse then? It has always bugged me a bit.

  • Adorkable: Despite their poor hygiene, Ogryns are generally seen as lovable goofballs by the fanbase.

[up] Not that offtopic. There's barely any context in the write-up.

To me, that's clear misuse. It's not supposed to be an Audience Reaction, but an objective trope. In essence, it's a dorky character who is considered cute and attractive by other characters in-universe.

In all honesty, I think Adorkable only exists because it was created before we insisted on sending all tropes through TLP; it'd never get through nowadays.

Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.

Yeah, I probably twisted the description... so that it would make sense to me as an objective trope.

Ages ago, there was a Trope Repair Shop for Adorkable. See here.

The use was all over the place back then, with many wicks on YMMV tabs, others as normal objective tropes, and lots of ZCE and blatant gushing. The crowner options now show only the test words and red links, but if I remember correctly, there was an option to make it in-verse, but people voted against it... because they wanted to gush about their favourite characters. They also voted against making it YMMV because they wanted to have it on character sheets and main pages. No consensus was reached.

So the discussion ended with commenting out the ZCE from the subpages (the're still commented out). There was no dedicated cleanup effort for the wicks because there was no clear resolution about how the trope should be used and it was Trope Overdosed even then.
