Sonic Bastardized is a The Abridged Series take on Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie, made by SuperPsyguy formerly of Fireball 20XL as part of his "Bastardized" series, and the longest-running instalment of said series. The story involves Eggman, envious of Sonic's voice acting outshining his own, creating a robot duplicate of Sonic called Hyper Metal Jason, planning to use it to replace Sonic's voice with a terrible voice actor to leave Eggman with the best voice of all. He tricks Sonic into going to Blizzard Entertainment's mainframe by telling him that he planted a bomb there after being angered by a troll on World of Warcraft, in order to trap Sonic and enact the plan to replace him with Hyper Metal Jason. However, this version of Sonic is being voiced by a fan voice, which can tip the scales in the heroes' favour...

Tropes included in this parody:

  • Blatant Lies: When infiltrating Blizzard's mainframe, "Korobeiniki" (the music from Tetris can be heard. Sonic asks Tails if he's playing Tetris, and Tails replies "No, this, this is... my... directions to find the bomb! Yeah, that's it!" followed by Knuckles giving Tails advice on how to get a high score in his Tetris game.
  • Catchphrase: Knuckles says "I has a hat!" a lot.
  • Cool Shades: Knuckles mentions how he wants these many times, and eventually gets some.
  • Creator Cameo: Psy voices Sonic.
  • Face Fault: Happens twice in part 1:
    • First when Sonic and Tails learn the Nameless Owl accidentally lost Tails's visa when his plane exploded. (Complete with Lampshade Hanging from a Japanese man.)
    • The second time is when Eggman's robots call him fat.
  • Fastball Special: Like in the original movie, Knuckles and Tails do this with Sonic to destroy Black Eggman.
  • Forgot I Could Fly: Tails, when in front of the "bomb" in Blizzard's mainframe. Sonic has to remind him. Ironic because he got there by flying in the first place.
  • Funny Foreigner: Tails, apparently, though it's unclear where he's actually from. Sonic mutters "Goddamn Mexicans" at one point, referring to him, though Tails himself says that he's going back to Cuba if he can't get his visa from the President. Though he could just have mixed heritage.
  • Gratuitous Japanese: Knuckles exclaims "Kuso!" (Japanese for "Shit!", roughly) at one point. Also a case of The Cast Showoff, since Knuckles's voice actor, Rittz, speaks fluent Japanese.
  • Malicious Misnaming: Tails keeps calling Knuckles "Nutjob".
  • Medium Awareness: The characters frequently acknowledge that they're in a movie. As well, Tails refers to Sonic's voice being done by a fan voice, which he says they can use to their advantage (though he never explains how exactly).
  • Motor Mouth: Tails, frequently.
  • Mythology Gag: In the first episode, Tails yells that he'll start quoting That's My Sonic! (an old Sonic sprite comic by Psy) unless Sonic helps him.
    • The Fireball 20XL Running Gag of "What song was Shadow listening to in Sonic Stereo?" (a Flash short by former site member Mr. O.M.A.) is referenced by Sonic listening to the song on the radio and wondering who sings it, followed by the real Mr. O.M.A. (dressed up as his Author Avatar) appearing and remarking "Not! Funny!".
    • When Eggman finds the switch to turn Hyper Metal Jason on, he exclaims "Aha! Here it is! Right here!". This is both a reference to a line from Sonic Adventure ("Aha! There it is! Right there!") and a Voice Clip Song made by Psy that used said line.
    • The "drowning music" from the classic-era Sonic games is heard when Sonic is trying to pull Tails out of a pool of water (Tails's feet are stuck to the bottom). Tails even says "Come on, Sonic, I hate this music!".
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: The voice of Hyper Metal Jason is obviously a mimicry of the voice Jason Griffith used for Sonic. This is because Hyper Metal Jason is supposed to actually be Jason Griffith, hence the name.
  • Rape as Comedy: When Hyper Metal Jason finds Nameless Owl at the beach, he advances on him with Glowing Eyes of Doom with Nameless Owl crying "Rape! RAAAAPE!" as the screen fades to black.
  • Sound-Effect Bleep: Most of the swear words are bleeped out.
  • Shout-Out: Given that it's a The Abridged Series-style parody, it features many of these.
    • Sonic explictly mentions doing "DBZ moves" when fighting Hyper Metal Jason. Earlier, when Knuckles throws Sonic at Black Eggman, a clip of Krillin yelling "Destructo Disc!" is heard. Later, when Tails tries to help Sonic in his fight against Hyper Metal Jason, Knuckles stops him, saying that Sonic has to fight him alone because it's like when Goku fights Frieza alone in Dragon Ball Z for no reason.
    • When Tails does the followup after the previous example, the iconic "FINISH HIM!" soundbite from Mortal Kombat is played.
    • Mike Pollock and Dan Green are mentioned by name (in reference to their status as Sonic voice actors).
    • World of Warcraft gets many references, and is even involved in the plot in some way, with characters such as the President and Eggman being players of the game.
    • A clip from Hell's Kitchen is shown at one point.
    • Black Eggman and Tails perform the "Great Mighty Poo" song from Conker's Bad Fur Day.
    • While riding a missile towards Black Eggman, Sonic exclaims "Yippie-ki-yi-yay, motherf*bleep*er!"
    • Tails plays Tetris on his watch.
    • When Sonic and Tails go down in the Tornado, the Goofy Holler is heard.
    • "Mr. Roboto" by Styx is heard when Hyper Metal Jason first appears.
    • When Eggman switches Hyper Metal Jason on at the start, the "SE-GA!" chant from the original Sonic games is heard.
    • Sonic imitates Foghorn Leghorn's accent and Catchphrase in the first episode, poking fun at Sonic's very Foghorn Leghorn-ish accent in the actual English dub of the movie.
    • Crazy Frog is heard when Tails is trying to get his visa from Nameless Owl's burning flight machine.
    • Eggman yells "Eat my shorts!" at Sarah when she challenges him to a rematch at the video game they're playing.
    • Sarah threatens to tell everyone that Eggman likes MapleStory more than World of Warcraft if he doesn't play video games with her.
    • Eggman remarks that he and Sarah can "do it like a Druid in the General channel", sung to the tune of "The Bad Touch" by The Bloodhound Gang.
    • In an outtakes reel, Eggman's voice actor remarked that his Eggman voice was based on, in his words, "the kid who did the cosplay of Kefka".
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: Many times, often done by Eggman.
    • When giving Tails the speech-translating watch, he says "It's a voice modulator anddefinitelynotabomb that will make it so you're actually understood in this godforsaken movie. ...Andnotabomb."
    • When attacking the heroes in his "Black Eggman" mecha: "I am Black Eggman, and definitely not Eggman!"
  • Take That!: When Sonic is listening to the radio in the first episode, "Fastest Thing Alive" (the opening from 'Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM)) comes on. Sonic exclaims "Oh sweet Jesus, no!" and quickly changes the station.
  • Tempting Fate: When trying to retrieve his visa from Nameless Owl's flying vehicle, which is on fire, Tails says "Maybe I can get my visa before anything explodes!" Cue the back of the vehicle immediately exploding, knocking Tails back.
  • That Poor Cat: In the Cold Open for part 1, Eggman accidentally steps on a cat while trying to find the "on" switch for Hyper Metal Jason.
    "Whoops! Sorry, Chester!"
  • That's What She Said: When Tails is trying to pull the lever to turn off the "bomb" in Blizzard's mainframe, he complains "It's kinda big!" Sonic retorts "That's what your mom said last night!", followed by a clip of Renaldo from Super Freakin Parody Rangers saying "That's what your mother said!"
  • The Unintelligible: Tails. According to Word of God from Psy, you're not supposed to understand him. He becomes slightly more decipherable when Eggman gives him a watch to translate his speech in episode 2, though oddly enough his speech doesn't go back to normal when Eggman destroys the watch in episode 6.
  • This Is Something He's Got to Do Himself: Knuckles says this about Sonic's fight with Hyper Metal Jason.
