Despite his mocking the film's financial failure, on Saturday Night Live, Mike Myers has refused to outright disown the film. He did, however, admit that he had tailored the storyline too much towards his own personal interests, and that it would probably have struggled to find an audience even had it been better-received.
John Oliver is not too fond of his role in this film.
Creator Killer: This is the only directorial effort of Marco Schnabel. Afterwards, he didn't work again until he re-emerged as a writer in the late 2010s.
Deleted Role: English comedian Omid Djalili got prominent billing despite his one scene as Guru Satchabigknoba being removed from the theatrical cut, but it was included as a deleted scene on the Blu-ray release.
Fake Nationality: Mike Myers as Pitka, obviously, but also Jessica Alba (and several other cast members) reversing the rules of Hollywood by being an American playing a Canadian.
Verne Troyer previously appeared in Myers's Austin Powers film trilogy as Dr. Evil's one-eighth sized clone, Mini-Me.
Alongside Mike Myers's Creator Cameo - as mentioned above - is Kanye West; Myers stood next to Kanye during his infamous, "George Bush doesn't care about black people," rant for a Hurricane Katrina relief telethon (which both Myers and Kanye also spoofed previously on Saturday Night Live).
Justin Timberlake provided the voice of Arthur (otherwise known as Artie) in Shrek the Third, in which Myers provides the voice of the titular character.
Magnum Opus Dissonance: Mike Myers put a huge amount of effort into creating both Guru Pitka — whom he played in live stand-up for numerous years beforehand in order to properly develop his character and backstory — and the film itself, which he thought would serve as the launching point of a series that would surpass the Austin Powers series in popularity and earnings potential. Instead, it proved a major critical and commercial failure that helped sink Myers' career.
When Jane/Jessica Alba is shown the next clip is Pitka standing in just his chastity belt whacking his crotch with a metal mallet a couple times and groaning.
Afer Jane is shown for the advertisement of Jessica Alba starring in the film it cuts to Pitka in his chastity belt with the mallet from the nuts in a sling scene whacking his crotch twice and screaming “ ow !” As it makes a clanking noise.
Star-Derailing Role: The failure of this movie, along with the failure of The Cat in the Hat, effectively ended Mike Myers's stint as a Hollywood A-lister. He has since informally retired from acting and become a painter, although he does still do voice acting work for Shrek, appeared in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds, and most recently had hosted a revival of The Gong Show on ABC from 2017 to 2018.
Trend Killer: The film's disastrous critical and commercial response — on top of a shift towards smarter, more naturalistic comedies that had begun a few years earlier with The 40-Year-Old Virgin — proved the death knell for the 1990s and early 2000s comedy film formula, with its reliance on over-the-top visual gags, gross-out humor, and wacky, Totally Radical characters. Its failure was seen as all the more significant bearing in mind that Mike Myers had created and starred in the Wayne's World and Austin Powers films, which were highly influential on that genre.
